Not only Starlight but everyone was dressing formal for Christmas party, most of celebrity faces were between them and Homelander himself, he picked a dark blue sport coat with trousers, he isn’t much used to civil clothing, if it was up to him he'd just attend it either naked or in his uniform but Ashley insisted, tried to bribe him too; Starlight will be in that party too, sir! If you want her attention, you get to wear something nice!

As if his uniform wasn't nice.. but, pff, women. They love a handsome bad boy covered in expensive things but ask him again, he'd need none of it to attract ladies.

Right now it doesn't matter at all when his blood is boiling, the drink glass cracking in his grip and he feels like a caged animal, wanting to pounce on that fucking annoying man thinking just because he's some Oscar winner, he has this right to talk to Star!!

So it's how he corners the man once he excuses himself for a bathroom break, terrorising him not to look at Starlight's way let alone approaching her and grabs a champagne flute and greets Star when she was looking away.

Jesus.. did I just.. but no no he's not wrong, he made her blush, can even hear her little heart going insane in there, she must be feeling tipsy already because on a normal day, she'd just run away from him.

"Y-yeah" a dorky smile on his face, he laughs lightly "yeah you..wow, you look like a queen with this dress!" His eyebrows jumping up as he looks her up and down again, hands the glass to Starlight, briefly touching her wrist during the process, too. Oh, John, felt her rabbit pulse? "Annie.. yeah.." stop saying 'yeah' "I- I mean.. I uh.. you can call me John, Annie!" He takes a hold of her delicate hand, the one that isn't holding onto the glass of course, he isn’t some idiot!

"Looks like that man of yours isn't coming back soon." He better. John glares at him again when Annie isn't looking and the poor man turns around and walks out of the hall in hurried, scared steps.

"Would you... do you..uh..can I keep you company for the rest of the night?" He flashes his polite smile and holds up his arm for her to take.
