Yandere Movie Week [review]

Day 2 - Secret Obsession (2019)

Yandere Score: 9/10

Overall Score: 6/10

I hate to only give this movie a 6/10, because I really enjoyed it.

But it's the kind of fun, turn-your-brain-off flick best enjoyed with ice cream and zero critical thinking skills.

The premise is solid - our heroine Jennifer (Brenda Song) wakes up with amnesia after being chased down by a masked killer. A great set up for tension, and a pretty classic intro to a thriller.

The opening scene yanks us straight into the action. A rainy night. A mysterious, knife wielding stranger. A desperate dash for safety. (If only they could have kept this pace up for the entire movie, sigh).

You can see where I'm going with this. It doesn't go well for our girl.

After she wakes up in the hospital, we're introduced to her husband, Russel (Mike Vogel). His character design had two words on it and those were "buff nerd." Biceps and bifocals.

He's with her through every step of her recovery, sweet and steadfast while she grapples with the guilt of not remembering him, or their life together.

But most importantly, he's here to whisk her away to safety! That safety being a gorgeous house out in the mountains.

With no cell service or nearby neighbours.

I love the cabin chic look Jen, but maybe not the best place to be when there's a killer out for blood.

As you can expect, things go south and they go south fast. Not even half an hour in and we get our first on screen murder. Trust me, this particular yandere is not shy about his intentions.

He works hard to earn his 9/10 rating. He's been obsessed with Jen for years, and her getting married is the final straw. Either she can be his, or she can join his rapidly growing list of victims.

We've got plenty of the classic tropes. Cameras in her bedroom. Isolation. Chaining her to the bed. A total catch, no idea why Jen was never into him.

He's the quintessential "If I can't have you, no one can" sort of guy. Doing whatever he has to to keep his girl. He gets creative with it too. How many yanderes can say they broke out Photoshop as part of their grand plan?

Unfortunately, he's far from perfect. And I don't mean the murders. (Hot guys can do a little murder sometimes, as a treat).

His plan hinges on people just... not checking ID? You're lucky you made it as far as you did, pretty boy. Guess some deranged killers get all the luck.

On top of that, the chemistry between him and Jen is terribly lukewarm. A few tense moments, but nothing simmering hot.

For the most part, he isn't very scary or emotive. Which is a HUGE missed opportunity.

Show us the passion that led him to this point! Show us a man on the end of his tether, desperate to keep his girl! Give us something more than bland acting, and a range beyond straight-faced and slightly-less-straight-faced.

Despite his long list of crimes, he just isn't intimidating.

Maybe the intention was to have this non-threatening guy do all these things as a way to ratchet up the tension, but I don't think the movie had the budget or the time to pull it off.

He gets much better in the third act - more demanding, more handsy. But it never reaches the point where I'm at the edge of my seat wondering if he's about to lose his shit.

Jennifer as a character is moderately likeable. Despite spending quite a bit of time with her, I struggle to think of anything majorly distinctive. Not great. Not terrible. I think it's Brenda Song herself rather than Jennifer who I end up liking.

She's also - how do I say this politely - not always the smartest. And I get it girl, it's hard to think under pressure. But how the hell do you manage to lock your keys inside your car when you're being chased by a killer?

She's lucky she has her golden retriever man to protect her, really.

In terms of technicals, I'd say they're okay. Not very eloquent of me, but that's exactly what they are.

The cinematography is passable. There weren't a lot of shots that made me pause and stare. It has that glossy look that a lot of direct-to-streaming movies have, where you can tell the budget is stretched a bit thin, and the camera guy is antsy to get his cheque.

The score doesn't stick out to me at all. Hate to say it.

Don't go in expecting a blockbuster, high budget film. It's fun but utterly mid-teir in budget, story and characters. The premise has promise, but it fails to deliver as much tension and terror as it could.

Would I recommend? Despite its issues, I'd say it's worth picking up. Not the scariest or prettiest movie on this list, but it's a quick fix of yandere to get you through the day.

Just because(you believe) 2 characters have romantic or sexual feelings for each other does 👏not👏 mean👏 everything👏 they 👏do👏 with👏 each👏 other 👏automatically 👏becomes👏 a 👏romantic👏or👏sexual👏act👏. Capice?

I can admit when I ship two characters who have no romantic/sexual connection in canon but I'm not gonna let my shipper goggles change the reality of what's actually happening(usually. I try anyway). Showing the different aspects and depths of platonic/familial relationships is so important, don't take away from that just because you want them to kiss, okay? Physical touch, emotional vulnerability, mental familiarity/closeness/affection, etc are all parts of those types of relationships too, not just romantic ones.

When my best friend and I have sleepovers we share a bed because we've known each other our whole lives and we just never grew out of it- doesn't mean we like each other romantically. I can cuddle with friends because I'm tactile and it brings me contentment- doesn't mean it's romantic. They're the ones I call or text when I need someone to talk to and I rely on them emotionally- doesn't mean I have romantic feelings for them. My friends know more about my mental state and my history than anyone, including family- doesn't make it romantic. I'd trust them with my (hypothetical) kids- doesn't make it romantic. I can tell my friends "I love you"- doesn't mean it's in a romantic way just because I do all of the above and more.

I understand there's occasionally some overlap when things are unsaid, when it's a vibe or look or something less concrete that can be open to interpretation. Still, admit that, don't take one action that is common in non-romantic relationships as well and point to it and declare that it can only happen in romantic relationships.

Even if one or both have feelings for each other, it doesn't make everything they do romantic/sexual, especially when it hasn't been admitted to in canon. Hugs, cuddling, seeking emotional comfort, empathy, compassion, thoughtfulness, etc, are all also platonic behaviors/actions. Just because you think it's accompanied by a look or a vibe doesn't change that, it would just mean that it had an added layer of meaning for that character.

For reference, ships I've shipped with no Canon definitive romantic moments:

-Sterek(Teen Wolf) (This one might get me shot, I know, but nothing in canon made me think they were inherently romantic. One of those ones where nothing they did didn't fit a brothers/friends narrative, but had vibes for some people)

-Morcia(Criminal Minds)(ship tf out of them, but I can admit their interactions were platonic, rgardless of any possible hidden romantic feelings)

-Gibbs/DiNozzo(NCIS)

-Dom/Brian(Fast&Furious)

-McDanno (I honestly almost put this one on both lists, because there are no definitive scenes where I can't play devil's advocate and point out that brothers couldn't also say or do that, or that a non-shipper couldn't refute, but the vibes are undeniable if you're open to it as an option. They never got together but I still believe feelings were there.)

-Billy/Steve(Stranger Things)

Ships that haven't gone canon(yet) but that definitely overlap and live in a gray area between platonic and romantic because some things just are not normal in platonic relationships(Again, still doesn't make everything they do romantic/sexual):

-Buddie(911): Simialr go McDanno, but I believe they've taken it far enough to justify being on this list imo. Too many moments don't fit platonic friends.

-Bensler(SVU)

-Bethyl(TWD): I feel secure in moving this to this list after Norman confirmed feelings on Daryl's side.

shipping characters who are just friends in canon is more than okay but what’s annoying is when people take screenshots of them touching and say “friends don’t do that!”. i hate to break it to you but friends do hug and hold hands and cuddle. saying ‘friends don’t do that’ is reenforcing the idea that physical touch is reserved for lovers

Progress Update — 31/03/25

TLDR: I have only two scenes left, and the first draft will be finished.

The last month, I finished Az's branch and the hobby part. Az's branch took a good half of the month since it's as long as the other branches. The hobby looks like this behind the scenes:

So writing all these variations took a while, but I'm glad to be done with it!

The next scene shouldn't read as long, I think, but I do need to write a lot. The cast is playing a card game, but that's not the point. The point is that they will be able to ask the Oracle a question, just as the Oracle can ask them a question in return.

While the cast has set questions, the Oracle has a list of them, so I have to write each character's answer to each of these questions. Most of the questions are available for everyone, but each character has 2-3 questions that are exclusive to them. I'm also adding route (romance/friendship) flavor here and there where it's appropriate. I think this might take me a week or two, and then the last scene shouldn't be very long.

Which means, if everything goes well, I'll finish the first draft this month and begin editing.

Now, the chapter is already 100+K words, so editing won't happen in a week. I want to add more flavor text, too, so I'll take my time to carefully read the scenes and add details as needed. Many things slip my mind when I'm in the trenches of writing, and looking at the list of everything I might need to add would just distract me, so I often leave fine-tuning details to the editing stage. Still, an update is definitely close now!

I'm 100% making the next chapter smaller. This feels like a marathon, and I'm sure some people might be tired of waiting. I am definitely sick of waiting, lol. I think I should've cut the chapter in half, but I underestimated how big it'll turn out with five routes that take, like, 60% of it. But I'm smarter now and won't make the same mistake twice (fingers crossed) 😅

2. Total AO3 word count? 1.25mil. Almost to my 3rd AO3 anniversary :D (that's around 1,170 words every day for three years, not counting nonpublished words! Proud of that rate, even if it's slowing.)

Status? about Four. I think this one hits the sweet spot for a lot of people: not too long, a bit angsty, but sweet.

so i admit that the mud didn't do much for me, about Hyrule. Actually the first fic I ever posted on this account, it's silly and I'm surprised to see it so high

incandescently happy, a post-LU happy ending. Posted little chapters every day for like a month which kept it in people's feeds so I think that's why it's so high

Rise and Shine and Fall, my successful (by that I mean actually wrote and posted every day on schedule) Whumptober 2022 extravaganza compilation. I posted it all in one work, so it's higher than most other whump fics of mine, but there's a lot in it!

4. What fandoms do you write for? Zelda. In the past I wrote a tiny bit of Danny Phantom and a fair amount of FE3H!

5. Do you respond to comments? Always!! I admit to being SO VERY BEHIND right now, a couple months' worth. I'm trying to keep up on new ones, but I've had some beautiful wonderful readers going through my catalog and I can't always keep up!! XD

6. Fic with the angstiest ending: I don't write a lot of negative endings, so I think this badge goes to Counterbalance, my LU Darks AU. I'm actually fully in love with this fic, it's probably the best mix of silly and angsty I've ever written. It's full of what are essentially OCs but they're all my babies and I love them.

7. Fic with the happiest ending: incandescently happy, post-LU. The whole fic is essentially a fix-it ending, though LU doesn't have an ending yet. XD

8. Do you get hate? A couple silly comments trying to tell me I'm doing things wrong, but not really no! Oh, also can't forget the ask I got that was "Remember that Jesus is your first reader." I think that was meant to be passive aggressive but there's a chance it was meant like, genuinely? Not sure.

9. Do you write smut? Nah. And I don't plan to. Not my thing! Closest I get are vampire bites XD

10. Do you write crossovers? I swear I've done more but the only ones on my AO3 are a Vidow fic done in an original world (Nothing New Under the Sun (crystals, dumplings, jewelry)), and Blood-Sucker's Guide to High School, a Vidow retelling of a very fun vampire novel.

11. Ever had a fic stolen? Nope, but I did have one of my Vidow fake fic book covers stolen for someone's fake fiverr listing. Got it taken down with a DMCA but I was like, why

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Not to my knowledge.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic? Oh plenty. @enrolio and I spent most of 2020-21 lockdowns and beyond cowriting, mostly original stories (1.7mil) but a lot of fic, too (nothing published, but almost 400k worth.) We're currently in the process of working on a big epic original fantasy series, though that's a long-term project. @batrogers and I have done a few alt-POV-type projects too, which have been super duper fun!! Hope to do more.

In that vein too, I feel like the Bad End Links kind of qualify here—so much of the characters and their stories were brainstormed collaboratively and so many friends have contributed details and fics and art, it feels like a fun group project! I've really enjoyed working on it. :D (the encouragement and hype for it also helps a lot!! I'm really hoping to finish this big project out!)

14. All-time favorite ship? Ahhhh a harder question than you'd think, tbh, even if you're limiting it to fic. I've written the most for Vidow, and they're definitely up there (same with Fourdow though I've done less with them.) I do have to admit that Linhardt/Byleth might take the cake, though. They were the first ship I was ever actually obsessed with, and the first romantic pairing I wrote in fic.

I just really adore Linny in general, and I love how the pairing continues and closes off some of the themes in the Crimson Flower route of FE3H. That's the only route where Byleth doesn't become archbishop-slash-dictator, and I think choosing to live life in a small cottage, not particularly contributing too much to the government, builds nicely upon the themes of becoming human and choosing your own destiny, themes that are really missing from the other routes.

15. WIPs you want to finish but doubt you ever will? My old AO3 account (a couple FE3H fics and not much else) has a series where I wrote the beginning of a fic and then had several different endings planned, each a different ship with Linhardt, but I only ever wrote one. 16. Writing strengths? Um... Volume and speed? Also AUs. I think I can call myself good at fitting characters into new settings. Also fight scenes are fun and I think I do them well.

19. First fandom you wrote for? Danny Phantom, in high school or maybe just after. That's late for a lot of fic writers but... there are reasons for that, and a different discussion!!

20. Favorite fic you've ever written? This is an extremely rude question, because I love so many for different reasons. I write things I want to read!! Counterbalance (for the tone) and Blood-Sucker's Guide (for the finished novel plot) are up there but I linked them above, so I'll take the chance to call out a different few—Marvelous Misadventures is way up there, a Wind-focused modern with magic AU. I promise I'm still working on that last chapter (and the epilogue), I just gotta throw everything else aside one month and buckle down. Maybe June, I don't have any fic events planned and 06/23 was the last update. I think some earlier chapters need a refresh as well, once I have the ending written.

I'll also toss White Walls (medwhump, "non consensual body modification: the fic") into this category for how long it is and how proud I am to have finished even a collection this long, and a long walk, a Linked Nexus fic where I did so much math and had so much fun with it. :D

"I'm gonna hit the bathroom before we go," Eva pushes out her chair. 

"I'll sort the bill," you assure her as you check the slip left by the server. It's more than you like to spend. 

As she goes, you keep your attention on your wallet. That man is still there. Watching. He ordered food but didn't eat. Most of yours is in the to-go by the untouched cocktail. 

You refuse to look at him. He's waiting for it. You don't need to provoke him. Especially not with Eva around. 

Her voice wafts over as if she heard your thoughts. You flinch and look over. She giggles by his table as she talks to him. He has his phone in hand as she winks and nearly skips back to you. He grins but you look away before your eyes can meet. 

She sits and your cheeks pinch. The server arrives before you can find the words to ask. You pay with a tap of your card and tuck it away. 

"What did you say to that man?" You keep your voice even and your back to his table. 

"I was being nice," she insists. "I gave him your number." 

"You--" you catch yourself before you can cheep.  

"I mean he's into you. Don't worry, I told him you're shy." 

"Oh my god," you drone and turn away, stomping toward the door. 

She hurries after you in a clack of heels, "you're not mad at me, are you?" 

"Mad? No. Irritated. Why would you give him my number?" 

"I... I thought... I'm sorry," she follows you outside. 

"Eva, don't be, I just..." you untangle your purse as it twists from your elbow. You feel bad as you can hear her guilt. You know she means well. "Look, I had a really long day and work has been... weird." 

"Yeah, well, I didn't mean to make it worse," she mutters. 

"Please, let's just go home," you get out your keys and hit unlock too many times. You crane to see over your shoulder. Is he following? "We both worked hard." 

"Sure," she agrees. "It was... I didn't mean--" 

"Really, I can tell him to scram if I need to." You say before ducking into the car. You are going to have to. Again.

The rumble that trails vaguely along your path home doesn't surprise you, but it troubles you. You do your best not to let on. Not to let the dread bubble over to fear. 

You pull up to your small modest house and for a moment, consider backing out. You know better than to lead a strange man back to your home but what choice do you have. As it were, he knows where you work, who's to say he doesn't already have your address? 

You get out as Eva does the same. She yawns. You walk quietly to the front door. You're certain to lock it as she takes off her shoes. 

She heads down the hall and calls dibs on the shower. You barely get out a grumble. You stay by the door. 

The engine roars closer and closer. It's a game to him, not to you. It's not fun for you. 

There's no sense in running away. If you hadn't in the first place, he wouldn't have come to the restaurant. He wouldn't have got so close to Eva. That was his statement. It's not just you anymore... 

Deal with it. Be done with it. Your mother trailed men along so many times. You know better. Even if you never asked for this, it's your problem now. 

As the motorcycle thunders down the street, the whine of the pipes fades. You twist the latch back and storm out. The man rolls toward your house and you stop at the end of the driveway. 

He steers toward you and plants his feet. His blue eyes sparkle as you glower back at him. He shuts off the engine. You sigh. 

"I can get you my insurance info," you begin. 

He snorts and kicks the stand down. Your eyes wander to the scratches on the bars and tank. You bite the inside of your lip. 

He climbs off and you feel even smaller. You don't know what else to do.  

"For the bike. I didn't mean to--" 

He laughs. You stare. 

"I'm not here about the bike." 

You don't know how to respond, so you don't. You don’t want to feed his ego. Or worse, his anger. All men are angry. Deep down. 

"You're running from me," he accuses. 

"I don't know you," you utter. 

"Well, you don't make it easy to change that." 

You look away and push your shoulders up. When you glance at him again, he's intent on you. A man's never been so fixated on you before. It makes the world feel smaller. 

"It's... at the bar? I appreciate what you did," you say. "So if that's why you're here, my sister won't be going back--" 

"Your sister?" He hums with intrigue. "That who she is?" 

You cross your arms, heat razing up your back. 

"I don't... I don't know what you want so if you could just... let me know or leave me alone. I really don't have time for all this." You say. 

He snickers again and reaches to toy with his helmet strap. "You don't got time for me?" He nods, "wow, you know, I never had a lady say that to me. No men either. They're all too scared." 

"Scared, er?" You swallow. "Well, I... I don't mean it rudely. It's just...the truth." 

"Alright, well then, I won't waste your time, doll. Gimme your name and I'll let you enjoy your night." 

You scratch your neck and peek behind you. You look at him then shrug. If he doesn't already know, he'll find out. You give your name. 

"Beautiful," he says. "Well, I'm Bucky. Just so you got a name for the face." 

You take a step back, "right, well... you got what you wanted." 

"Not even close," he says as he straddles his bike once more. "But I got enough. For now." 

For now? Chagrin wrinkles between your brows. He holds your gaze as he moves the bike back with patient steps. The headlight is cracked, no doubt from your panicked flight. His is anything but frantic. 

He angles the bike down the street and turns the engine. He twists the throttle and pushes off. In a tear of gas-laced exhaust, he leaves you, uncertain of yourself but sure of his return. Maybe not here, but eventually, he'll find you again.

Work is already stressful without the weight of your personal life. You try not to think of it as you walk in that morning. You should be content. Eva’s at her second day, she’s behaving, at least as far as you know, and you’re in the slow season as the fiscal year comes to an end. 

Despite trying to cozen yourself into a false sense of security, you can’t find even the solace of denial. Not as you approach your desk and find Mr. Walker awaiting you. This is a first and it’s definitely not a good omen. The only other time you saw him at someone’s workstation like this usually ended up in an empty chair. 

“Mr. Walker,” you approach, your nerves worn down. “Good morning.” 

“Is it good?” He asks. You can’t tell if he’s being trite or not. 

“Well, it is morning,” you say. “Is there something I can do?” 

He looks around at your desk then back to you. He tilts his head. “New client. Tim’s on vacation with the family. Deb’s got her kid’s game tonight.” 

You give a short nod, “I can pick up the overtime.” You’ll message Eva and hope she can find her way home. No, you’ll trust that she will. Things are different now. She’s an adult. 

“That’s great,” he taps the corner of your desk and his eyes trail over. You left it raised the day before. “These standing desks, you like them?” 

You clutch the handle of your lunch bag tighter. “They help me get on my feet. Not bad.” 

“Hm,” his cheeks dimple. “I admire that in an employee. Straight to the point.” 

You measure the comment. It could be a compliment or insult. Or even just designed to confuse you. Some true managerial mind fuckery. 

“Sir, I like it. I know a lot of other places don’t have them so... it’s nice.” 

“Well, I...” he looks around as if trying to seem hapless. “I’m in your way and you have a long day ahead of you.” 

You check your watch, “still on time.” 

He shifts but not far. As you step past him, he stays close. There’s a brush against your pants. Is it your paranoia which makes it feel intentional? 

You step behind your desk and put your lunch bag on the corner. You unhook your purse and sling it over the back of your chair. You’re keenly aware of Walker’s presence. 

“You drink coffee? I was going to have one.” 

You hesitate. Is he offering? 

“I have one a day. Before work,” you assure him. 

“Huh, yeah, the caffeine,” he muses. “Could I get some help though?” 

You look at him as your computer boots. This is odd. Him asking for help. Not just that he’s admitting to needing it, but that he’s not demanding it is enough to pique your concern. 

“I usually pop down to the coffee shop but I’m not in the mood for crowds. I’ve never used that fancy machine that’s draining the budget,” he snorts. 

As put off as you are, you’re also agitated. You just like to get your stuff down and get going. The days are already grueling enough. You won’t say no. He got Eva a job and he’s never been as big a bugger to you as others. 

You step around your desk. 

“Right, I think I can figure it out,” you say. 

He backs up to let you through. He waves his arm to direct you ahead of him. You take the lead, ready to melt as he follows, his eyes needling the back of your skull. 

You go to the break room. It’s empty. Too many people rush in late, with cups from the cafe, or yawns into their hands.  

You approach the machine. Sometimes, you use it for hot water to brew some tea but nothing else. Those instant drinks are all sugar. 

Well, it’s a touch screen. It can’t be that difficult. 

“So... a cup,” you talk to yourself more than him. As you reach for one of the paper cups, he does too. His large hand closes around yours. He could crush it and the cup with a squeeze. 

He hums and lets go. He lingers next to you as you set the cup on the tray. You bring your finger up to tap the coffee option on the screen. You feel like an idiot. You don’t think he really needs help. He’s just reminding you of who does who favours. 

“Um, medium, dark... latte....” you read out the options. Is he closer? No, you’re just not used to him. 

“Hmmm,” taps his chin. “French Vanilla or Hazelnut?” 

You wait for him to choose. He clicks his tongue. “I’m in the mood for something sweet. Vanilla.” 

You tap the screen again. He exhales and runs his knuckles up your sleeve. You nearly flinch away but think better of recoiling. It’s nothing. 

“Bring that to me, will you, sweetheart?” He squeezes your shoulder before he turns to strut out. 

You stay as you are, shoulder tingling, head pulsing, ears ringing. Sweetheart? And now you’re bringing him his coffee? Like some intern? You cringe as the machine churns loudly and your insides squirm in unison. 

Just when things seem to be in order, they have to go and fuck themselves up again.

We did it guys! Minthara is in the top 100 most mentioned video game characters on Tumblr, sitting comfortably at rank 55!

With Astarion at rank 1 (cause of course), Gale at 5, Shadowheart at 6, Karlach at 8, Lae'zel at 9, Wyll at 12, Halsin at 16, Tav at 19, Gortash at 47, and The Dark Urge at 67. Baldur's Gate 3 is also the most talked about video game on this platform, as well as the 6th most talked about thing on all of Tumblr!

I wish Minthara was higher, but you know what, I'm happy she's on there at all! It is also interesting that she ranks higher than Durge and that Durge is that low on the list. It's also pretty interesting that there is such a discrepancy between Durge and Gortash as Durgetash is also the 67th most talked about ship on the platform. It is quite an achievement that our favorite drow is even on that list at all.

It is all just making me think back to some of the more dejecting AO3 statistics with Minthara almost being a blip, practically a statistical outlier in some ways. Even some insignificant side characters got more attention and adoration than her, or had numbers that would compare to her. But Tumblr is a much bigger platform than AO3, containing a much wider array of topics (including fanfics). So for Baldur's Gate 3 and Minthara to stand out that much is really saying something! Reading these statistics on Tumblr does go to show that one platform does not represent the entire fandom and that AO3 is only a piece of the picture.

5 Underrated Things or Tactics That May Aid Bell's Hells to Victory

Spoilers up to Campaign 3 Episode 116 below

Well Critters, it all comes down to this.

Vox Machina dismantled the Malleus Keep, killed Ozo (the Bozo) Kruft, and freed the Champion of Ravens which removed the tidal lock on Ruidus, and now the Mighty Nein have disintegrated the Weave Mind, completing essentially a full dismantling of the Kreviris Imperium, all of which quicker than I anticipated. All that's left is the Hallowed Cage, where Ludinus Da'leth and his inner circle are using his harness to try and fully destroy Liliana Temult. Bell's Hells begin a race against time to save her, but also a race to defeat Ludinus before he unleashes his intentions unto Exandria and its Pantheon with Predathos, and then decide for themselves what they do with the God Eater.

Suffice to say, and I dunno about everyone else but, I am terrified. I believe they can win but Ludinus is not to be underestimated, this second harness means he may be stronger - and he was already the strongest wizard alive - and have access to more powers compared to his simulacra, plus Predathos may come during or after this battle, which can put the Hells in a weakened state. Matt has likely prepared his best and worst for this final battle too, but the Hells aren't Lv. 20 combatants like the other groups; there's no 9th level spells, no Divine Intervention, and the group lost their cleric ~20 episodes back, so even though VM and the Nein were ultimately successful within 1-2 episodes having to use both of their auto-succeed Divine Interventions from their two clerics in the process, this is the battle. And with that is a ridiculous amount of tension for Ludinus and for what comes after. For all we know, the cast may've already recorded ahead enough to have finished the final fight, maybe even finished the campaign (though I hope not, partly because I don't want it to end yet but also I feel like the dawn of the new era should be explored regardless of what choice the Hells make, plus some characters could use a bit more resolution after the big fight and the pressure of stakes and time sensitivity have been alleviated) but for us it's a nervous wait, and a wonder of what can be done to win and what choice will be made to determine the future of Exandria, Ruidus, their faith and their people. So, this is my indulging into that first part, 5 lower-key things or tactics that might not have been initially thought of that could make things easier to defeat Ludinus.

Liliana, the Inner Circle, and the Arcane Battery Provided that the Hells make it in time to stop Liliana from being totally destroyed by the harness (which is very possible since Laudna does have that tracking spell on him since Aeor, it's all about speed and not running into enemies) she will still be without her magic to fight. Ludinus' inner circle holding her down is comprised of Reilorans but also other Ruidusborns, and that's something the Hells can expose. Liliana cannot fight, but Ruidusborns can take spell slots from each other, so Liliana and any KO'd Ruidusborns from the inner circle can be used as spell slot fuel for Imogen and Fearne. Ludinus also gave a 9-slot fully-charged Arcane Battery to the Hells in order to trigger Delilah within Laudna for his escape, the battery can help recharge Laudna's slots too which makes this tactic handy for the witches of the group.

Dunamancy One of Ludinus' most important tools for his plan has been Luxon Beacons, a device able to unravel even divine magic, but much like the Harness it can prove his undoing. Dunamancy hasn't been touched upon as much as early C3 hinted it could have, but for lack of a better phrase, the possibilities are still endless. The Hells have multiple Potions of Possibility at their disposal to aid with rolls, but they also were given a Sphere of Dunamantic Restoration by the Kryn, which will trigger the effects of a Short Rest and a health and spell slot recharge - which can be handy in a pinch and to reuse some once per short rest abilities. Ashton is the key factor though, I've mentioned it a few times already but we don't know if these items will behave differently with them, via their own internal dunamancy abilities. Given the unknown factor, that's why it's not deemed as much of a tactic as it is a Hail Mary, but it is one that could lead to Ludinus' own magic unraveling, and maybe even Predathos' too

The Whirling Dervish & Conditional Advantages In Vassalheim, Dorian received his family sword: Gambolcleft, the Vortex Blade. One of its yet to be used abilities involves a once a day repetitive use of striking an enemy, similar to how Ozo killed Vex, provided that they attack with Disadvantage. Dorian is already looking at a high attack roll given Gambolcleft's +3 to attack and hit rolls, and Master's Flourish means he doesn't have to use a Bardic Inspiration to stack a Blade Flourish (Defensive Flourish is probably best, the damage is also doubled by Gambolcleft), the only quibble is the disadvantage. Fortunately, most of the Hells have skills that can force Ludinus into conditions where attacks would do advantage on him: stunning and rendering him prone being most likely, but paralysis is possible if a Hold Person is successful. It would of course require his Legendary Resistances to be used up first, but if Ludinus gets stunned or knocked prone within Dorian's range, Gambolcleft could easily carve its way through him with continual hits, stacked potentially by Bless and Mark of the Messy End, for perpetual damage and make Dorian himself impossible to hit on his next turn. Stunning or Proning Ludinus also leaves Ludinus at the vicious mercy of the martial players, especially for conditions that auto-crit when hit.

The Hole (or the Bag of Holding) Occam's Razor. An old but gold tactic of the Hells could very easily be used against Ludinus too. The portable hole or the bag of holding are devoid of air, left in one long enough with it sealed would mean suffocation as have been the fate of many of the Hells' past opponents that they didn't have time to deal with. The Hole's downside is that a Strength check can lead to a creature forcing their way out, but the Hells do have plenty of skills that can impose disadvantage on Strength rolls and the aforementioned conditions could help that, Ashton's Hammer may also make it more difficult to unfold the Hole if its Immovable Rod is propped atop of it - but that'd be down to Matt's discretion. The Bag of Holding doesn't have the strength save, but it is smaller so it may not be able to fit him in it. I'm not sure if Ludinus can use Gate to escape either, dunno if that leads to the whole extradimensional rip thing that happens if you open one while in the other, but if he does it's a concentration spell so the Hells could just keep knocking him back from the other side, a bigger group of enemies in either also reduces the time needed before they suffocate.

The Harness and the One-Chance Polymorph Right now Ludinus is using a harness to destroy Liliana, comparing it to the one in Moleasmyr it'll potentially take about an hour to finish the process providing that this factor wasn't improved upon. However, removing magic within a being for a whole day only required a minute of contact in the Hells' one and maybe Ludinus', thus his creation and reason for long life and power can also be the key to his downfall. Holding Ludinus down for a minute is of course not as easy as it sounds but that's where Polymorph can come in. Polymorph lasts at most an hour, so as long as Ludinus is changed into a creature that can easily be restrained they can use the harness on it and remove Ludinus of his entire arsenal in order to finish him off without the risk of his high level spells. The tricky part is getting Polymorph to succeed; Wisdom is after all a Wizard's bread and butter, but there is a single gambit that could make it work. It requires all Legendary Resistances to be gone of course, and for Laudna and Braius to be conscious; Braius has a once per long rest ability to change a Wisdom saving throw to a Charisma one, which he used to allow Dorian to succeed in making the Dominox dance in the live show, Laudna's Void Puppet can force disadvantage on saves to those within 5ft of it, which will negate his magical resistance to just a clean roll. Orym can also use Hex to impose a disadvantage, which may be able to stack, but this would also hinge on Ludinus' charisma not being super high and if the Polymorph fails once it will likely not be able to be tried again.

The fight won't be easy, but there are avenues that can make it less dangerous, a strategy is very much required for such a foe. All the while my strategy remains keeping up the prayer circle. Deep breaths everyone.

Zeev   has   been   raised   as   a  witch   in   an   old fashioned   sense   and   as   such   I   like   him   best.   They   use   ingredients   to   change,   create,   manipulate   or   alter   an   object,   a   mental   state,   a   physical   condition   or   emotions.   Depending   on   the   intentions   though   it   is   either   seen   as   “wrong”   or   “right”. 

As   a   green   witch,   he's   very   versed   in   herbalism.   His   connection   to   nature   is  shown   in   his   versatile   knowledge   of   anything   that   has   to   do   with   earth.   He's   been   taught   to   heal   and   to   take   care   of   the   needs   of   the   earth,   animals   and   humans   alike.   If   in   need,   he   has   the   right   tools   to   help   unless   it   is   too   deep   of   a   sickness   (   genetic   ).

Any   human   he   spends   much   time   with   and   cares   for   will   be   less   sick   and   live   longer.

Since   youth,   Zeev   is   a   very   skillful   illusionist   (   hence   why   he's   able   to   hide   an   entire   house   within   the   woods   ).   They   are   usually   uphold   by   effigies,   hex   bags   or   spell   jars,   depending   on   intensity,   intention   and   aimed   longevity.   Later   in   life   he   makes   use   of   the   fairy   circles   who   twist   reality   in   their   own   way.

The   usage   of   dark   magic   in   itself   is   not   forbidden   as   it   is   as   natural   as   any   magic.   Enhanced   by   blood   it   is   strong   enough   to   manipulate   and   alter   reality   in   a   way   that   is   too   grand   of   an   intervention   in   the   natural   balance   of   the   earth's  law.   Every   magic   that   has   life   changing   influence   on   a   being's   mind   or   physicality   of   this   extent   (   like   appearance,   emotion,   memory,   genetic  illness   )   is   considered   dark   magic.   The   consequences   of   those   incantations   are   usually   too   vast   to   control.   With   this   in   mind,   dark   magic   can   be   considered   a   tool   to   do   potential   crimes—therefore   it   is   considered   forbidden.

𝐍𝐄𝐖  !  Zeev possesses an ability he calls Parheling (based on Parhelion), a power that allows him to leave behind temporary imprints of himself—echoes of past actions that linger for a short while before fading. These echoes are not conscious but rather fragments of his presence, repeating moments in a loop. Like the afterimage of looking into bright light. Sometimes, his presence tears reality, leaving behind a lingering aura—not just of himself, but of the emotion he felt at the time. If someone enters a place where one of his emotional imprints remains, they might experience a flash of that moment—like a whisper or false memory. Those accidents can lead to revealing truths he'd rather have kept hidden. All underlining his wish to be seen, being stuck to a place and followed by the past.

𝐍𝐄𝐖  &  𝐑𝐄𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐃  !   as   the   child   of   a   fae   prophecy   /   curse   he   is   the   closest   to   the   ancient   roots   of   his   family   (   witches   =   far  fae descendants   )   and   therefore   inherits   the   potential   of   fae��  magic,   but   to   reach   that   potential   he   needs   to   accept   his   heritage   and   tend   to   a   wound   that   has   been   drawn   millennia   ago,   that   heritage   will   grant   him   the   ability   to   move   between   the   Otherworld   and   the   Realm   of   the   Humans,   healing   upon   touch,   increased nature   manipulation,   gift   of   foresight,  invocation.
