He should've known not to do it.

He should've known not to watch Ed train Bonnet in swordfighting.

Last time The Revenge tried to drown him on Bonnet's behalf, so why would this time be any different?

But he didn't want a repeat of the last time. He didn't want to hear moans and groans and squeaks and think for weeks that Ed actually fucked (or was fucked by) Bonnet until an offhand comment told him otherwise. He wanted to make sure Ed didn't get himself stabbed again just for a useless fuckin' flirt move that doesn't even work.

And he had watched as they trained. As Bonnet sloppily fumbled his way through the moves and stances. As he made a mockery of Izzy's favorite form of fighting.

And the next thing he knew the boat rocked just as Ed convince Stede to charge at him no-holds-barred and-

"WHOOPS!"

"ARG!"

And now Ed is peering at Izzy's side and nodding.

"Good job, man," Ed says, slapping Izzy on the shoulder. "Moved just in time."

"You really should stand up there when we're doing this," Bonnet has the gall to say, pointing up at the wheel. "It's a safety hazard."

"It's a pirate ship," Izzy spits through gritted teeth. "Everything's a fuckin' safety hazard."

And the twat has the audacity to look around like he wasn't fully aware of that. "Well, it shouldn't be. I had it made with the kids in mind. What about it is unsafe exactly, Iggy?"

"Izzy."

"Whatever."

"Well." Ed looks at the sword and flicks the end. "Better pull it out, mate."

Bonnet blanches. Izzy feels similarly about the idea.

"Um, I don't think so, actually. I'll find Fang instead."

"What? Come on, you've got those fuckin' arms, man. You can yank it right out, one pull."

"I didn't with you."

"Yeah," Ed says with a huffed laugh, eyes shining, and Izzy wishes the sword had struck through a little higher and a lot more lethally. "But that was because you didn't wanna hurt me, yeah? Izzy'll be fine, right Izzy?"

"Fuck off," he growls. He begins tugging on the handle himself, but fuck, the sword is in deep. Stupid Bonnet and his stupid full-force charge-

"Here." Ed pulls out a knife and put the handle in Izzy's mouth. "Bite down."

"I don't need that, Captain."

"I'm sure he doesn't, Ed."

And if Izzy isn't mistaken, that is... a slightly jealous gleam in Bonnet's eye.

Well.

"Actually," Izzy grunts, grabbing Ed's arm and yanking the knife back out. "I'll take it, Ed." He bites down on it while looking Bonnet right in the eye.

"Alright. Let's get this over with then."

And Bonnet grabs the sword handle with one hand-

SCHLORP!

Izzy's teeth leave a very visible indent in both side of the knife handle.

"See man? Wasn't so bad." Ed takes his knife back. He doesn't even look at Izzy because he's staring at Bonnet wiping the blood off of the sword using a fancy silk handkerchief.

But Bonnet is frowning at the knife in Ed's hand and Izzy's bitemarks on it.

So Izzy really won this rou-

"Maybe you can pin me next," Ed not-so subtly whispers as he reaches to take the sword from Bonnet, who goes brighter red than the blood.

Fuck.

Now Izzy is disgusted and still bleeding out.

Alright, so there's been a lot of chatter about some of the most common racist takes in the fandom lately, and I know most people aren't engaging in good faith but I'm gonna spell some things out anyway. Here's a handy-dandy White Fan's Intro to Racist Fanon 101

Why is it racist to depict Ed as uncontrollably violent?

Because he's not actually depicted that way in the show. OFMD goes out of its way to depict Ed's relationship with violence as complex and intensely traumatic for him. Because he has so many hangups around violence, Ed is one of the least violent characters in a show full of violent characters. He is always shown giving people many chances before they're able to push him into reacting with violence.

Even if you think you're just doing a character study on a guy who is really very complex and nuanced, please take the time to consider if you're assigning more weight to Ed's violent actions than those of other characters or assuming he's worse than he actually is (for example, Ed never physically hurt the crew during his kraken spiral, just Izzy. His crime was being a shitty boss, not going on mindlessly violent rampages).

What do other common fanon depictions of Ed that are racist look like?

The biggest ones are depicting Ed as untidy/messy, as illiterate, and as needing a white man (most often Izzy) to clean up after him. I hope I shouldn't have to spell out why these are racist, but please keep an eye out for them in the fanon you consume so you can be critical of how you respond when they pop up.

Liking a character is morally neutral. Insisting that the viewpoint of an antagonistic character is the lens through which the show should be understood, though, especially when that antagonistic character's whole deal in the first season of the show was trying to control the behavior of the brown lead so he could gain power for himself, however...

Just please consider - why do you find Izzy's tears more deserving of sympathy and compassion than Ed's?

It doesn't have to. Most of the racist takes/fic/meta out there don't mention Ed's skin color explicitly. Racism doesn't just look like saying "this character is a brown man so he's bad." Everyone who grows up in a racist society (that's everyone on the planet, btw, you included) has biases to unlearn, and those biases impact how you interact with the world around you, including with the media you consume.

The thing is, OFMD isn't a subtle show. It's very consistent with telling us who Ed is, how he responds to situations, and why he behaves the way he does. If you find it easier to throw all that aside in favor of believing what a white antagonistic character tells you about him, then you should really take a bit to examine that.

And here's the most important thing to keep in mind:

This is not about you.

Trust me, it has to be pretty damn bad for fans of color to call out racism in fandom. Every time we do, we know we're gonna harrassment and just some truly awful shit in our inboxes. But you, random white fan who Did A Racism? No one is out to get you. No one thinks you're an awful person for including a racist trope in your stuff, we just wish you'd examine it so we can make this fandom a better place for everyone.

I have had amazing discussions with white fans who saw my posts on fandom racism and wanted a sensitivity read or a check so they could fix an instance where they uncritically included a racist trope. But most people who make similar mistakes will just double down and insist they didn't do anything wrong, and that makes fandom a worse place for all of us.

Fans of color deserve to feel safe and included in this fandom, and we're just tired of feeling like we have to beg to get some circles to see poc as people. You can do your part by being critical of these tropes and your reactions to them when they pop up.

Hi! ✨ I was wondering what you thought about Duke's part in the latest episode of WFA?

Hi!! So I was very optimistic given last week's We Are Robin intro, and my hopes aren't dashed or anything. (I don't have FastPass btw so I'm talking about the latest free one!). Duke was fine here, him pushing back against Damian is maybe the first time he's stood against anyone in WFA so it's definitely an improvement! The conflict fuels Damian's character, though, not Duke's, which is still disappointing.

Obviously in canon neither Duke nor Damian would've been so nice in their argument, but WFA is a universe where every emotion is halved so I'm not mad about that. I am a bit wary about Damian vs. We Are Robin kids, and the rhetoric about 'field training' and 'field readiness'; firstly, this is a watered down version of what we already got in Robin War, and secondly it shows a misunderstanding of what We Are Robin is. Having Damian beat up Riko and Dax, even if he's called out for it, just kinda fuels the image that We Are Robin aren't 'real' Robins and need proper Bat training. Idk this was an issue in Robin War too, but the point of We Are Robin is that they're not trained like Bats! They're something separate, and that is their strength!!

I just think a WAR + Damian story could be so good if you treated both sides as equals. They both challenge each other' ideas about Robin; Damian has relationships with both Duke and Izzy; in fact, a story about Duke's loyalty between Damian and WAR would be so intriguing! This episode uses Duke + WAR more or less as a prop for Damian, so it isn't the best, but hopefully it's just a temporary thing and we actually get WAR/Duke spotlight next.

Anyway I will stay tuned in as long as We Are Robin are here so I'm hopeful they'll have bigger character/story moments later!! This is just the second ep they've been in so we'll see. For Duke, the major things WFA has left to fix are: 1) his personality (we still need way less 'timid'/normal Duke); 2) mention his parents more!! 'i don't talk about my parents much' are you kidding; 3) differentiate his relationships a little more. He should not interact with Cass and Dick in the same way! But this is kinda a WFA problem across the board rather than a Duke-specific one. Curious to hear other Duke fans' thoughts!

When did people stop saying 'in my opinion'? because lord above would that simple phrase have stopped me getting so mad this morning.

I have no interest in reblogging the posts and starting drama, but some izzy takes I've seen this morning have made me want to chew through rawhide, and here's my opinion on why these 'factual statements' are wrong.

Izzy fans shouldn't be upset by his death because he's not a main character, he is a plot device to further the story of the main characters.

I'm a professional writer btw and to me a 'plot device' character is the barista who's in one scene. To me, if a named character with backstory and complicated interpersonal history with one or more main characters is just 'a plot device' - that's a waste of a character and shitty writing. I don't think ofmd is shittily written so this annoys me on two levels - disrespecting the show, and the character. Because in my view if Izzy is 'just a plot device' that's someone insulting the show.

2. Izzy was an antagonist and antagonists can only ever be redeemed and then die, or become a villain.

Not even true of ofmd and certainly not of media in general, yet stated as fact with nothing to back it up. This is NOT an opinion btw - you only have to look at Zheng and Jackie to know it's not true within the context of the show.

Jackie dobs Stede in to the British just as much as Izzy does, and she threatens them with vengeance again over the indigo - does she die? Does she become a villain? No, she's a guest at the lupete wedding for fuck sake.

Zheng insults Ed and attempts to kill Stede, two things Izzy was vilified for, gosh it was so sad when she died in the finale wasn't it? Oh no wait, she became their ally and sailed away on The Revenge!

'Have to die or become villains' is just...incomprehensible to me. The only way I can see it working in someone's head is if they think character like Jackie and Zheng did nothing wrong, when Izzy was evil, for doing the same things - albeit for more personally passionate reasons.

3. Izzy telling Ed that the ship's atmosphere was poison because of 'his feelings for Stede' was Izzy 'blaming Ed's actions on love again, just like he did in s1.e10 because Izzy is just one-note evil and only ever has that one thing to say.

To me, s1 Izzy is absolutely thrilled to have managed to bait Ed to anger, to have brought this out of him. He thinks he knows what he's just unleashed, but as we soon discover, he has no idea - because Ed had never cut off one of his extremities before. He poked the bear, but the bear was actually a fucking kraken.

s2 Izzy, in my opinion, looking at his expression above, is sad, resigned, he is saying Stede's name (which it's already established even obliquely mentioning him is a BAD IDEA with the whole 'talk it through' thing, after which Izzy sounds panicked) but he is specifically trying to make Ed see that he is not himself - that what he is doing to the crew is toxic.

Just because he's essentially saying 'This isn't you' in both scenes, doesn't mean the tone or the meaning of those scenes is the same. One scene ends with Izzy gleeful, victorious. One ends with him screaming on the deck, bleeding out.

I am happy for people to have these opinions, and for me to vehemently disagree with them, but they ARE opinions. And Izzy 'fans' or you know, people who see the show differently to you, are not stupid, racist, immature or whatever else you want to call us.

We just have a different opinion. If you're going to share your opinion, great! But it's still just your opinion.

So overall I don't like the OFMD Reddit. I've tried to create a post about why narratively I felt S2 didn't work ignoring the Izzy stuff, one only about the Izzy stuff(since there are very few Izzy-focused fans on there), then another talking about Olu/Jim/(Archie/Zheng) talking about why I was disappointed in it. If it's a negative post, moderators won't approve the post to go live. Which I don't love. But okay, if you want a positive echo chamber to offset Tumblr and Twitter about this season, sure.

I still check it out of curiosity when I stumble across this GEM.

We've had quite a bit of time to debate this. Almost two years, and this was posted 11/15/23. Yes, the OP was very kind (I agree that Ed thought that Stede was cool cause he beat Izzy, and was a new pirate on the scene. Then once he realizes how dumb the crew is the plan springs up into place), and I'm not hating on them specifically. Just that some social media places are just still at this point.

I blame a large section of the fanbase for not EVER reading any Izzy POV meta. Who are now scrambling to go back to rewatch S1 knowing what we know about Izzy now.

If you want to see all the responses, ranging from those I agree with to those that are just wild, let me know, I might put the link in the comments my favorites range from. 'Blackbeard wanted to but Ed didn't' to the usual Izzy is a superhuman being. To 'ALL THIS WAS JUST TO KEEP IZZY ON THE SHIP'?

Do they not see how INTERESTING the dynamic between Ed and Izzy is? That their relationship is giving and pulling at just the right times? Izzy trying to maintain their shield and Ed desperately trying to find a life where he doesn't hate himself? Both of them DON'T REALLY WANT THIS-Ed being openly suicidal to Izzy keeping his head down and working- living day by day- each NOT talking about their issues.

That hiding behind the Blackbeard name is the only way they'll survive? That killing Stede Bonnet could genuinely give Ed the out he craves. Izzy could then Captain a ship full of a crew that (theoretically) already fears and respects him?

[Not that Izzy would be good at it, or even want to be away from Ed, but you get my point. This was a *change in their lives* that is VERY tempting to two men who have been in survival mode for YEARS-

Also, it's very obvious Jenkins didn't plan Izzy's character out, so Izzy wanting to captain to me can just be written off as Jenkins not knowing the character yet, since he NEVER PAYS THE SCENE -WHERE IZZY IS FLATTERED AT POTENTIALLY BEING GIVEN TITLE CAPTIN-OFF (cough cough Izzy could have been the captain/first mate S2ep8)...moving on]

If Lucius didn't stumble in, Ed would have killed Stede here. He was aiming for a fatal spot in his neck and actively swinging down, I couldn't find a gif and had to take a photo on my phone, but you get my point.

Ed then realizes that not only was he willing to kill a guy who, overall, had been very kind to him, but then gets the Kraken as a reminder that he HAS killed. That he's spent his entire life killing to put himself into a better spot. Slowly rising up the ranks, and it's never been enough to keep him happy. Be it his dad, or fuck, even killing this rich dude and stealing his identity.

Izzy is SO EVIL guys, Ed doesn't want to kill Stede! He just has to pretend to be violent in front of Izzy so Izzy doesn't mutiny or leave him!! Doesn't that TOTALLY make sense? Ed's struggling since he never wanted to kill Stede, and he's struggling with the 'order' Izzy gave him!!

Earthspark spoilers. It's time for my opinions and theories.

Before I start, I am aware of the writers changing. I will put that into consideration in this. And for the record, I did enjoy Season 2 so far, but I admit it has nothing on S1 for now.

First two episodes were really good, I loved the Breakdad moments, I love Aftermath and we get a glimpse on how the Decepticons have been operating. 2nd episode with the Quintesson gave us some lore and suspense, and I always love a Mo and Thrash tag team. These episodes felt... right for Earthspark, but not as Season 2 starters? If that makes sense.

Hashtag's alt mode is neat, but I miss her chunkiness in robot mode. Made her feel more distinct you know? But I'm with the others saying VAL being an AI in Hashtag's mind is really weird considering what Mandroid did. Maybe she's coping? I have a theory that this VAL might be manipulated in a future episode to control Hashtag, but for the sake of Hashtag's well-being, I HOPE this doesn't happen. (Also, hi Shockwave).

Carnival episode. Is Schloder reduced to an incidental now? I hope not and that he becomes important as well. But also, I figure its a traveling carnival/circus, which makes sense to why we haven't seen this Fairemaestro before, and the little interaction with Swindle shows up 'oh yeah he's a bad guy' already. But you can't just tease a GIANT COSMOS-LOOKING RIDE AND THEN 'OH BTW ITS COSMOS' LAST FEW MINUTES. If Cosmos doesn't show up in later episodes I'll be so disappointed, like...it's freakin' Cosmos! <-Perfect design though. *chef kiss*

I do think the Robby crush on Izzy was cute, but it being involved with the plot felt....eh? It was like, nothingburger to me.

JBAM episode. I LOVED THEM. Jawbreaker has clearly gotten more comfortable with himself and such since Grimlock, but him not taking a hint from Aftermath (who was being direct) reminds me of my younger self. <-Was an insane chatterbox and would not shut up no matter what was said to me.

But the contaminated energon stuff like, yeah callback to that weird bear. Sorry if I forgot, but back in S1, was there a reason GHOST was just leaving it around? I don't remember. And what's with the horrific energon mushrooms, and those poor animals? I know people who are going to be turned off from this show just from that alone, but at least it's 'off screen'? But also Aftermath betraying Jawbreaker hurts, I was hoping he'd like, impress Breakdown with the stolen water BUT NOPE, NO MORE AFTERMATH AND BREAKDAD STUFF. (I know Aftermath was like, not 'what did you just call me' when he was called Son but, cmon!!)

Spitfire episode. I personally think this episode went hard. Gave me Sonic VS Metal Sonic vibes. The fight scenes were really done well, and the tension was so good! To me, Spitfire wanted to be superior but felt inferior when not chosen for the mission, so that desire to be the best consumed her. I'm personally a big fan of this episode, and Alex is awesome. And so was Spitfire, I'm kinda obsessed with her.

Bodyswap episode. Always love a good bodyswap scenario, but somehow this felt... weak. It's plausible for the others to believe Spitfire (as Twitch) had a scrambled processor from the previous episode BUT the fact Wheeljack was the first to catch on? Before a Malto? I'm SO GLAD they referred to Dad2 again but, IDK, feels... strange to me.

Trailer episode. Was kinda nothingburger again? It felt like they needed to add SOMETHING before the horrors of the final two episodes, but maybe I just need to re-watch it because I didn't feel much from it. Optimus was clearly getting aggravated and uncomfortable, which was making me uncomfortable. But also, OPLITA? COMPLICATED? If they don't ever bring this up again I might be a bit...bitter.

And finally, the Witwicky 2-Parter. My anxiety was through the roof here, but I also kinda figured it out early that a Titan was involved. Was still surprised though, and her design is awesome?! But what was making me panic more than anything was Hashtag was going to see Starscream. Yes I know, a one-episode bond may not mean much, but we all had hopes, yeah? Anyway, I love nasty bitch Starscream. It's what makes him Starscream. And I do think what he did was in-character. But it would feel off if Earthspark was someone's introduction to Starscream, you know? This specific one, who's attitude told the audience 'I hate Megatron he abused me so I'd be a better leader than him'. But also...

The scene with him killing the Chaos Terrans was a fucking horror movie. It does a lot when I am SCARED OF STARSCREAM. I wish he didn't do it, but he also needed the shards. If the Autobots/Maltos needed the shards from the Terrans, how would they do it? Would they hesitate to find a safer way to keep the Chaos Terrans alive? Or would there be some sort of urgency? It really makes me think, but Starscream wanted those shards ASAP, he does what he need to do to get what he wants, he's Starscream. A manipulative, traitorous bitch who almost never gets his way in the end.

But you might be wondering, "Kit did you feel like the character development was thrown away for Starscream?" Well, yes and no.

It's really upsetting how Starscream twisted his advice to Hashtag. Truly upsetting. But it also does feel like something a Starscream would do. I keep flip-flopping between "yeah this makes sense" and "um what the FUCK writers". See what I mean by "yes and no?" And Hashtag calling Starscream worse than Megatron AND Screamer taking it as a compliment? Again, very Starscream thing to do, but I think ES! Starscream should've been at least a bit offended?! And out of all bots to call him the worst... Why did it have to be Hashtag? I guess it has more 'meaning', but still...

My theory (or moreso, hopeful thinking) is that Starscream re-invented his advice to Hashtag so he could get detached from her. Starscream had a mission, a personal selfish goal, and he needed to take care of HIMSELF, no friendship. Only comrades willing to follow him, and the Maltos were not those comrades.

My other theory (which I gained from seeing someone on twitter saying this) is that the Chaos Terrans DIDN'T GREY OUT FROM DEATH. Therefore, there is a chance they can return. Maybe something from the Allspark or Matrix or some kinda macguffin will help?! And I sure hope they come back, because they could learn to be good (but still cheeky) and we can bring back the messages and theming from Season 1! Right, right?

As for 'Starscream the child killer'...look, it's upsetting I know. But like I said, selfish goals. And while I am not familiar with every Starscream from different canons, I've met enough versions. Other Starscreams have have committed war crimes, blew up a human hospital, threatened to kill innocents, committed war crimes, wanted to kill everyone to end a war, squished humans in his servos... (yes I know Skybound is more for an adult audience than kids but I'm just saying). War crimes. I am not excusing Starscream's actions here, but when he needs something, he'll do what it takes to get it, for his own selfish goals. It makes sense but I also feel its wrong and I agree with other fans who were quite upset with this scenario. If the Chaos Terrans don't come back I'll be really sad.

Again, I've considered the fact this show has new writers, which is unfortunate. I saw someone on here say that Season 2 (so far) feels like a bootlegged version of S1, which is how I feel about it. I did enjoy the episodes, but they were a bit messy. Also, the lack of Nightshade and honorary family member Bumblebee really made me sad. Was it a script decision, or could they not afford Danny Pudi enough because they used the money on the new cast like Flea? (Don't quote me on like, celebrity net worth here). The lack of Nightshade though is very suspicious though, considering how big of a deal it was for them to exist as a non-binary character.

Side note, Shockwave. I'm glad he finds Cybertron itself more important than creating a New Cybertron, it feels right for him to not care about Earth. But if he going to attempt to lead now? Or something?

Izzy wasn't healing in ep8, he was falling back into the darkness. Even if the writers didn't realise - which I hope they did, jesus christ - they showed it in several subtle ways.

He returned to playing with lit candles. We saw him extinguish candles in ep5 and not just by blowing them out. CUTTING the wicks with a sword! Using what he knows best, to separate himself from Blackbeard and his service under him. To build himself up again and learn to love himself through it.

He isn't clean shaven. We all registered the fact he was very messy throughout eps 1-4. and immediately after getting a bit better, after gaining hope, getting the hoof, he shaves. He starts taking care of himself again. And they can't have been in that prison for long enough for his hair grow out like that. A day at most.

He seperates himself from the crew. Yes, despite his speech. In the cell, he's sitting under the window, quite far from the others. His flashbacks when he's talking to Ricky isn't of them being close to him. It's him looming in the background during season 1, seperated from them, only observing them, but not being a part of the crew.

"I want to go" and appologising to Ed on his deathbed. Do I really have to explain that one.

Also, I'm not saying him regressing a bit back into the spiral is a bad thing at all - I think it would've been great to explore that! But they didn't. And many fans are saying Izzy has healed, when he clearly has not.

You had been with Danny every step of the way, sacrificing your time to get him in and out every hospital in the country and every time it was just the same. Waiting and figting had started to be so tiresome for the both of you and Danny, he started to think that maybe God had other plans for him.

You were reading some tabloid, Danny was getting checked by a nurse when Dr. Bailey came inside the room followed by three interns.

"I hope seeing you here means they finally found you a heart" she said after saying hi to Danny.

"Y/N how are you?" you shrugged it, meh as your answer was good enough for Miranda, especially since she had knew the Duquette siblings for a while now. "Okay, what do we know about Mr. Duquette?"

Denny didn't get a chance to the interns to talk that he started flirting with the blonde, you had to admit, she was very nice to look at but in that moment it was not the case to be all flirty and cheesy. You wanted to tell your brother but Miranda spoke for you, thanks Miranda, you noted for yourself.

"Danny Duquette, 36, admitted today for a heart transplant necessitated by a viral cardiomyopathy" Dr. Bailey asked her something, you didn't pay much attention, you knew what that meant, having heard it a couple of other times before it got stuck into your consciousness.

"That his heart is unable to fill and pump blood normally."

"That his heart is unable to fill and pump blood normally." you said under your breath. Denny looked at you for a moment before he was back at the blonde doctor with his stupid flirty smile on. You rolled your eyes once again that day.

It slipped your ears, the name of the doctor that was going to attend your brother, too occupied to lecture Denny in your mind. You wanted to tell him to act more like a proper patient and stop flirting with the doctor.

You saw the group leaving, for a second and that was your moment to talk to Denny about how he had to stop being so bold.

"You are making a mistake" you said. "I'm serious Denny, is a mistake and you should stop it before it gets out of control"

"Deisy come on, is harmless flirtying. Nothing is going to happen... I promise"

"Stick to your words or I'm going to kill you myself" he snorted at your threats as he always had done since he got sick. "I'm going to call mum. Do NOT flirt with your doctor mister, I'll know."

"Yes ma'am." he gave you the salute and tried to get comfortable in his new bed that year. He never noticed but everytime he stopped smiling you saw it. You were there to see how painfull it was for him this situation and you felt like a garbage sister, powerless and in need to do something even just a little.

The fresh air outside the hospital was a little blessing, staing inside the air started to feel saturated and everything felt so heavy: your head, your eyes, your bones and muscles. Everything felt like someone was crashing you under the weight of a giant rock, and knowing you had to call your mum was not making things better.

"Don't answer, please don't pick up th... Mum, hi. We could be better...yes, yes, is just a chek up so don't worry. No, I don't... mum listen is nothing too serious, Dr. Bailey visited him and for now is all doing... Yes, I'll say to Miranda you said hi, but listen... uhm uhm, okay fine just... Nevermind, I'll call you later. I love you, of course I'll tell Denny you love him" she hung up on you, as always. "Guess it would kill her to say I love you back"

"Problems?" a voice spoke behind you making you jump out of your skin. "Sorry didn't mean to scare you."

"Is okay" looking at her you recognised her from back in Denny's room. "you are dr..."

"Stevens, but you can call me Izzie if you like." pause. An embarazing silence feel between the two of you. "how do you know Duquette?" she asked to cut the tension that was growing by the seconds.

"I'm his sister, and about before I am very sorry. He thinks his problems could get him away with flirting with people"

"He does that a lot?" now that you thought about it, no. This was the first time Denny had been this bold with whoever was treating him and this was a surprise to you. "Is not like..."

"No, he actually never did that before. At least not in front of him but I guess I assumed. You had to take a minute recollecting your thoughts, closing your eyes you ran your fingers over them.

"You need some rest"

"No I'm fi... I guess I really do some good rest." but nontheless you didn't moved an inch, you were dying for some hours of good sleep but didn't want to stay away from your brother. "But what if something happens to him and I am not there?" you could feel your eyes starting to water, more and more. "I can rest tomorrow is okay. I need to stay with Denny as much as possible. See you inside Dr. Stevens." Izzie didn't even bother to correct you, it was not that big of a deal, she knew you had more important things to take care of.

It was during the third time that day that Izzie came to check up on Denny that you knew something was wrong, you had noticed Dr. Burke's expression in the hallway when he had called Stevens aoutside, that look on his face meant one thing: no heart available for Denny.

You scoffed and decided to take a walk around the hospital before your back was going to scream at you for how sore it was going to turn if you didn't move a little.

"Where are you going?" he sounded groggy and very weak, weaker than his usual but yet if he was at the hospital that meant it was way more serious than his usual.

"I need to move those babies if I don't want them to tingle for for ever." you joked, he scoffed before coughing. "Do I need to call someone?"

"No is nothing, go stroll around and bring me some decent food, better if is Dr. Stevens" you smiled at him saying you were going to do your best.

Izzie was the one that found you, she was your brother's doctor and she wanted to be the one breaking the news to you but you knew already, how couldn't you when Burke's face said it all?

Looking at her made it even more real, he didn't get the heart. Once again he was ripped off of a chance to start a new life, all over again. You wanted to cry, no, you needed to. It had been years since you let it all out and now you felt the need to do so.

"Here, if you need anything call me, even if it's not Denny related, I'll try my best to asnwer you" she said handing you her business card. You waited, just until she was back inside.

You were holding into the business card as your life depended on it, and you broke down. You started crying getting everyon's attention on you but you didn't care much right now. It really didn't matter what people had to say seeing you like that.

You felt it was yur fault, how was it possible other wise? Just the night before you had called Izzie and joked about how Denny was doing so fine.

"He doesn't want to see me anymore?" she had said laughing at her own words and you had faked being shocked telling your brother what a jackass he was being, not going to see a fine doctor as her? Unbelievable.

And now here he was, in the back of an ambulance while you were once again shaking, filled with anxiety to what was about to happen this time.

You followed the paramedics once on the site, one of them, you couldn't tell who, was shouting Denny's parameters. Some words, you could understand others just flew over your head as if they were nothing.

"YN?" turning around you saw Izzie

"I...we were... he was fine yesterday Izzie, he was cracking jokes and... now... Oh god Izzie please, help him. Please." few times you had begged for something, you didn't like to do that but in that situation you needed her help, you were useless for your brother.

"I'll do my be.." you couldn't handlet it anymore. Your legs started to feel like jelly and your head felt lighter in a second. You could tell you were going to faint. "Shit. Y/N? Y/N can you hear me? Alex come help me" that was the last thing you heard before loosing consciousness.

The bright white lights of the hospital were annoying, they were giving you a big headache that made you grumpy when you were not in the right situation to be that moody and grumpy.

"Where is Denny?" you only cared about your brother and nothing else, you didn't care if you had to regain your strenght or whatever you HAD to be next to Denny as soon as possible before it was too late "HELLO CAN SOMEONE ANSWER ME?"

"Ehy, easy tiger calm down"

"I will when somoene tells me where is my brother." sitting up you had to take a deep breath, your vision got blurry for a second. "So where is Denny Duquette?"

"They are running exams upstairs in..."

"Can you take me there?" the doctor wasn't answering and you were growing impatience by the seconds "you know what? I can go by myslef" leaving the bed was not a good idea, especially when you were trying to recover from fainting. Loosing a little bit of balance you almost fell onto the doctor.

"Okay, wait here." time started to go painfully slow, everything started moving in slow-motion and you felt like throwing up. It was so unfair what was happening but yet you had to see it coming, why on earth did you started to rest on your laurels? Why now? Nothing was different from your usual visits to the ER so why getting cozy now?

You had to get yourself back together, it was no time to show any sign of weakness not when your brother was in critical conditions.

The doctor was back pushing your way a wheelchair and helping you sitting there.

"Your ride is here ma'am"

"Is not time for chit-chatting, move now" you were never rude to people, but right now you didn't had the energies to have civil interactions with people that weren't Dr. Bailey, Burke, Izzie or your brother.

The walking upstairs seemed an infinite journey and the more you were away from Denny the more worried you were. You started to hyperventilate and in a closed space like an elevatore that was not good.

The doctor handed you a sachet, asking you to start breath in there before the situation got any worst. Following his orders you managed to bring your heart beat slowing down and so your breathing. You thanked him and finally you were on the right floor.

"Hi Y/N how are you doing? I've heard you fainted in front of the hospital" Preston was kind enought to ask how you were doing before saying anything about Denny's medical conditions.

"I had better days, how is..." Denny's machine started beeping in an allarming rate, Izzie was already inside when it happened, the doctor that was prior with you rushed inside followed by Bruke, you heard little to nothing about their conversation but you were sure it was a bunch of medical terms you couldn't understand even if you wanted to.

Nurses followed some minutes later working on the defibrillator and some minutes later they were using the paddles on him. First hit, first round of screaming. It wasn't enough, they went with a second shot and Denny was screaming once again, this time louder than before but at least this time his heart started to slow down his frenetic race, you could tell by the sound of the machine.

Wheeling inside the room Denny looked at you confused, why were you in a wheel chair?

"Are you trying to outstage me here? I'm the sick one of the family don't try and steal my spotlight" he joked making you and Izzie laugh a little.

"Nothing too serious, I just fainted when we arrived at the hospital no biggie" he gave you a little snort before going back to check on Izzie. She was working on his chart but still managed to lecture the both of you, saying how one day either one of you were going to give her a heart attack.

"Look at that my two girls stealing my thunder" there he was, back at cracking jokes left and right.

It had been a couple of months since the surgery, you had come to visit Denny at least once every day and thanked Izzie for staying on his side while you couldn't be there. During your visits Denny had talked to you about his scrabble games with the doctor and how he wanted to marry her.

"Dude you can't drop a bomb like this to me as if it was nothing" there was no way he told you like that, like it wasn't some very important decision. "but if you propose I would like to help you with preparations and stuff"

"Stuff? Really?"

"What? Is not like a cared too much to learn the proper terminology, but I am ready to do my best now that I know your plans for the future. Here" you covered him a little bit more, you didn't want him to feel cold, or maybe it was you that was cold. You didn't know, since Denny got sick you lived to make sure he was comfortable always every hour of the day.

Since the LVAD surgery your brother had more good days than bad ones but still on those no days it was very, very bad. He would yell at you and Dr. Stevens about he wanted nothing but just "walk to into the light" to which you and Izzie had tried multiple times to stop making him say nonsenses, but that only made him more angry at the two of you.

"I'm sorry" you had said sitting outside his room when you saw her leaving "he is usually not like that but.... all of this is just too much for him and he is getting tired to fight. I get it, but... I don't know what I would do without him. We made some promises. "

"I can imagine." she sat next to you "do you want to talk about your promises?"

"Nothing any other big brother is supposed to do, you know? Being overprotective, calling me every five minutes to know where I am and with who. He is supposed to scare away my dates, Izzie how can he do that if he is not there?"

"No, don't say that. He will get a new heart and he will recover faster than you can imagine. In no time he would be scaring away your dates while I tell him to chill out" she scoffed at her own words, she find it funny how she pictured herself with him outside the walls of the hospital.

"But we have to be realistic. He might not get a heart and even if he does he might not survive the transplant." silence. "Izzie? Am I a bad sister if I think he won't be able to survive?"

"No, you are not a bad sister"

It was the second time, you were sure you were calling it because it was not possible. It couldn't be. He had to get better, he had to be better becuase he had things to take care of. He had to marry Izzie and you had to help them with preparation and stuff; he had to scare your dates away and protect you; he had to recover and yet he didn't.

He was gone, just like that. He was doing fine and then, in a blink of an eye he was gone. He had walked into the damn white light to never come back.

"You can't do this to me Denny. For fuck sake man, you were supposed to stay by my side." You hoped it was one of his sick prank that he played on you to give you a heart attack and to fuel your trust issues even more. You hoped he was just faking being dead because there was no way the surgery wasn't going to be successful. As fast as Denny left you started crying, you cried like you never did before.

You were sad, angry, tired and a lot more. You couldn't list all the emotions you were feeling but there was a lot going on in your head and body. Izzie was next, crying her soul out angry by the fact that just a couple of hours ago he was proposing and now he was heading to the mourge.

Dr. Torres and Karev had to try and calm.you too down but how can you do that when a sister just lost her brother and a girl her fianceé? You sure can give it a try but you sure as hell were going to fail.

It had been weeks, how many you didn't know, you just knew that Meredith proposed you to stay with her, George and Izzie so they could make sure you were going to let yourself die. And there you were, in bed (Meredith's) staring at the rooftop, so white it made your eyes tear up every single day. Izzie on the other hand was back on her feet, still broken but yet she managed to move on, a little bit.

A knock on the door, you ignored it, Izzie's voice told you they were leaving and that you had some breakfast just outside the door and they had left some food in the fridge if you felt like eating and the cupboards were filled with junk food if you prefered that. She said her goodbyes and you kept silence, not able to say a word.

It was when you heard the main door closing behind them you started crying feeling like an enormous, huge weight got off your shoulders. Today you gave the time to be weak, today and just for today you allowed yourself to grief in peace without feeling guilty.

I find it really funny how each ship the TD fandom pulls out of their ass for José tells a story.

Courtné: Happened right after José first appeared in TDAS during 2013. Some big name fans on Tumblr liked the idea of Courtney being Heather's step-sister, loved Aleheather very much, and it evolved from there. Very, very hetero. No shade, it's just jarring compared to post-2020 TD fandom. This description doesn't cover most of how this crack ship became big on Tumblr for a while, I wrote about it better here on Fanlore, but I didn't join this fandom until 2019 so there's likely a lot I'm missing. There was also this post that got a lot of notes on Tumblr back then saying the show would be much better if Dawn/Scott, Duncan/Zoey, Izzy/Noah, Courtney/José and Brick/Jo were canon. Wild.

Heathsé: Was created by "PooPee095" on Wattpad during 2022, (great name btw.) It's largely their thing, so this ship is confined almost entirely to Wattpad, but I've also seen some other fans write Heathsé on there. In a lot of their fic, Alejandro is with Tyler, so this allows that to happen while still keeping Heather around. Kinda fascinating that with Aletyler being a major pairing in the fandom now, José is shipped with Heather too. Would've never happened on 2013 TD Tumblr! Or at least it would've gotten a lot of pushback/been extremely niche/without the context of how big Aletyler got post-2020.

Nosé: Was coined this year on Tumblr I think. I want to see more unironic Nosé in the future, it's hilarious. Again, fascinating that with Alenoah being a major, major pairing in the fandom now, José is shipped with Noah too. I guess Alejandro wasn't good enough? Lmao. Again, would've never happened without Alenoah getting big in 2021 or so.

So let's talk Naoya Inoue vs. Luis Nery! Crazy ass fight.

Nery comes out in the first round and drops Inoue after like 90 seconds. Props to Nery for being the first to ever drop Inoue. People are putting it down to complacency for Inoue but I think he was really set on showing Nery that he would not just concede space. Also think he wanted to just blast him out of there. Throws the lead uppercut to the southpaw and eats a left hand from Neery as Inoue dropped his own right prepping to throw it. Inoue got up and looked fine but that was a big shot.

Nery tries to keep the pressure high and force Inoue backwards in the 2nd. He's swarming and really looking to throw the left hand. Inoue is forced to fight off the back foot but is handling it pretty well. Moving to linearly imo, but Nery is showing that he's willing to swing at air if Inoue times his retreat well. Inoue backs into the ropes and Nery comes up short with his left hand. His head over his feet. Inoue drops a compact but powerful left hook and drops Nery in the 2nd to tie up at 10-8 a piece. Nery survives to the bell.

From this point on it was all Inoue. Nery basically had no notable offense. What started as Nery getting countered trying to close space turned into Nery being stuck at the end of range as Inoue darted in and out with jabs, 1-2s, lead right hands, and body shots. Inoue started doubling up with the crosses. Man's jab is so underrated btw. People focus on the power with Inoue but his jab is so versatile and deadly. Used it really well here to get underneath the lead hand on Nery.

Nery went for broke in that 5th round. Started swinging wild, really upping the pressure. Managed to get Inoue to the ropes but put himself in a bad position on the inside. Inoue throws two left hooks and the second lands flush on the inside to drop Nery. The 6th round was procedural with Inoue throwing everything at Nery. The fight ends with Inoue doubling up on the right hand. That 2nd one is soo fast too. It sent Nery through the bottom rope. Didn't even look that powerful but hit like a truck.

I think Nery had the right idea. Inoue is too powerful and too fast to try to play safe with. You're just giving him the initiative when you wait on his offense. You have to punch with him and make him regret exchanging with you. Give him something to think about. It is what worked for Donaire in that first fight. Just did not have the tools to do it once Inoue decided he was going to fight at range.

Inoue picks himself up off the canvas to dominate the rest of the fight and demonstrate why he's one of the best in the sport at the moment. Sounds like the Aussie Sam Goodman is next. We'll see.

Yoshiki Takei! K-1 Grand Prix champion AND now world champion boxer. Insane career arc. MMA fans talk about Pereira and Izzy but honestly, this is more impressive imo.

Never was too high on Jason Moloney, or his brother Andrew. As evidence, I keep mistaking them for one another. They're solid boxers, but a lot of what they do is milquetoast. Lots of grit. Lots of coming forward but not really throwing. They want to be pocket fighters, but do not have a lot of tools to get to those positions. And Takei is not a super deep boxing talent, but his strengths play well against Moloney. Same as with Junto Nakatani when he faced Andrew. Let the guy come forward while you use your freaky range and power to keep them just far enough away to hit and move. Takei, this being only his 9th boxing match and first to all 12, gassed hard late. Like spent the last 90 seconds getting hit like a punching bag. Lucky for him Moloney isn't a puncher. Had Moloney had ring cutting footwork and committed to body work, decent chance he wins this fight.

Not a new accusation, but since people are once again making ominous statements about the "concerning" potential of a Snapewives situation... maybe we should pass around a reminder of who, exactly, they're referencing?

The Snapewives (Fanlore Link, Reddit Synopsis) were an extremely small niche forum in a really huge fandom that are pretty much only known for infamous levels of cringe that got them mocked relentlessly when discovered by Fan Wank. We are talking a tiny subsection of a subsection of a subsection of the massive HP fandom that got really earnest with their self-insert fanfic / roleplaying (and really didn't like the canon ending of Snape's arc). There's actually a really interesting paper on analyzing "Snapism" as a religion that alludes to their particular issues with Christian faith and erotic fantasies, and can kinda sketch in how they might have gotten to where they did. It's weird, no doubt, but honestly sounds pretty harmless?

Like, I'm not sure if we're using the BITE model that they would even count as a real cult - "Snape" seems very controlling and makes them do things (cook specific dinners, stop biting nails, go on diets, etc.) but, like, there's no cult leader being "Snape". These are all self-assigned "tasks" via "channeling" (which is again weird but not super unique - read the paper) and then the women themselves disagree on things and could just come across as a really intense roleplaying forum having disputes over ratings for self-insert fic, among other things.

The situation is different when there's an obvious cult leader - see the extensive documented history of Andy "thanfiction" compiled here. Trigger warnings for sexual assault, abuse, manipulation... all the stuff you expect from cults. And really getting into reading the supplementary info will take you many hours, btw.

Anyway... having looked extensively at our "fandom cult" examples, I don't think I'm remotely "concerned" that we're veering toward cult behavior. Or Snapewives behavior. The Izzy section of fandom - and, for that matter, the Izzy Anti section of fandom - haven't really done anything that hasn't been done in countless flame wars before? Like we as a collective haven't even gotten to the levels of targeted character hate that I can glimpse by searching "Teen Wolf" right now, and frankly OFMD still isn't big enough to dream of replicating 2010s fandom's biggest hits. There's some cutting edge weaponization of social justice that's a more modern development, but that's still fundamentally just fighting about the fiction. Even the one doxxing incident is unfortunately not unique.

Sheesh, "Izzy Canyon" isn't even demonstrating a unified meta or consistent S2 desires / shipping preferences / etc. We're just better at not being dicks about it by necessity?

Because if you post an anti/critical take in the main tag it'll just cause a fuss and then you're willingly frustrating people.

I'm not just saying this for the "benefit" of Izzy fans, but also just less discourse engagement in general. I think it would cause a lot less fuss and tension than just posting critical or anti takes in the tags.

I was very happy when I heard the sound of glass shattering. And.. why was it so sad?? They do not have the right to make it seem so sad

But like- even though this is great. Love the angst and all...(he barely got to be sad about it? He barely showed it) I hope Cooper gets his tech powers back. He can be a chef, and a tech guy. Like that show on Netflix! Baking impossible? I think it was? Making functioning cakes. But maybe the whole "tech guy" thing was like... a fence for him? He only thinks of things in that way. Maybe that's why he was the most closed(least creative) person at first. But now he's out of that boundary. And he does look like he's being more care-free and seems more brighter? (...in case you haven't noticed yet. He's my favorite character. He's going to take up about... half of the space in my rambling;;)
