also since i never talk about my ocs on this blog i'm using this as a reason to actually introduce them with some rambling under a cut. slight nsfw warning because a good chunk of their dynamic is purely sexual

so loren and ralool ja's relationship isn't actually romantic at all as much as it may look it to an outsider. loren's aromantic, though he's not self aware enough to actually use that word for himself. ralool ja is terminally widowed and still considers himself to be married to/in love with his dead wife, and isn't ready to move on romantically. probably never will be. that being said, it's definitely more than a friends with benefits sorta situation. their relationship isn't platonic or romantic but a secret third thing, and neither of them care to actually define what that means.

it might not be romantic love and loren will balk at the mention of the l word but there's definitely a lot of love between them. they've been partners in a work sense, a sexual sense and a weird undefineable sense for nearly a decade by dawntrail. ralool ja is firmly loren's closest companion, his right hand man and the person he trusts the most in the entire world. though a good chunk of their dynamic is "just" sex it speaks leagues about how much faith loren has in ralool ja; sex and sexuality is a difficult topic for loren, he's got a lot of issues around his body and his sexuality as a trans masc person and someone raised in ishgard by a woman who was even more insanely sexually repressed and prudish than the average ishgardian. their dynamic specifically too is hard for him, with loren being a bitchy but ultimately submissive bratty little bottom who very much enjoys letting his partner rough him up and manhandle him but also hates giving up control after losing himself for so long to fray/esteem as a dark knight. he has an extrodinary amount of trust in ralool ja to let him take control, and he knows ralool ja won't ever seriously hurt him or push him too far. ralool ja is far from the only sexual partner he's ever had, but he is the only one who loren will show such an insane level of vulnerability and trust.

there's a deep level of care and closeness outside of the bedroom too. loren trusts ralool ja not to cross his boundaries and force him to perfrom a level of romance he's uncomfortable with. ralool ja knows loren won't begrudge him for still having so much love for keelal ja or force him to move on before he's ready- if he's ever ready. their dynamic might be weird to an outsider, but it works for them. and most importantly, it works for ceesil ja, ralool ja's daughter, who has at this point accepted loren (without his consent) as a secondary father figure. he did not adopt her. she adopted him. he does not get a choice in this matter (though he did cry a little bit when she made him his first piece of misshappen lumpy jewelry that she makes for ralool ja all the time, and is never not wearing it)

i had a more angsty idea for this prompt but i've been going through it at the moment and just wanted some wholesome fluff for day one tbqh. still works bc loren is nothing if not constantly desperate for Lizard Affection from ralool ja. i'm gay about them.
