I've been meaning to do this for a bit! Since I've been in the Phandom for 10+ years I've picked up a lot of good fanfics over the years and I think it'd be great to share them again in case people have forgotten/haven't encountered them!

I mostly used Fanfiction.net in my older days so a lot of them will be linked there. I'm also pretty picky when it comes to fics being completed, so expect the ones listed to be bingeable with an ending! And finally, I'm not huge on romance/smut so most of them probably won't involve those genres, I'll point out ones that do. (These are in no particular order).

I posted about this one a few years ago and the author, @ladylynse , said it's also available on AO3. This is by far one of my f a v o r i t e fanfics that I read annually or so! If you're a sucker for American Dragon too, definitely check this one out <3 The characterization of both Jake and Danny, plus watching their friendship grow, always gets me in the feels.

It's been a while since I've read this one, but I remember it having a lovely characterization of Lancer plus his mentor relationship with Danny. (I loved this one a great amount back in the day that I, uh, made fanart and turned it in for a school assignment. Which is lost to the ages now 😅)

I don't quite remember this one but I DO remember Cordria had some absolute bangers. You'll probably see their name a few more times on this list.

When I said Cordria had bangers, THIS is one of them! Another fic that I read annually, this one involves Lancer getting closer and closer to Danny's secret while he's stuck in detention for the weekend. I love love LOVE the characterization of Danny and Lancer in this, another at the top of the favorite list!

"Sequel to 'Masks'. Now that Lancer has learned the truth and has let Danny out of his office, Danny needs to face the next hurdle: his parents."

For some reason, I always forgot to put this on my favorite list so I often missed out on reading it with my annual read of Masks. I remember it being a decent sequel where the Fentons pick up the pieces of Danny's reveal.

"Danny has been captured and thrown into the Pits by Walker to fight for his life. Listen in as he tells his dark, twisted tale of surviving despite the odds. Warning: dark and depressing. Sequel is 'Final Exam'."

Another one I don't fully remember, but it had to be a solid read since it's on my favorites haha! I have a vague sense that it was a little angst/gore-y(?) as the description warns, so just heads up!

"The look on my parents' faces – eager, curious, somewhat hateful – wasn't exactly hard to give away their intentions. I knew what they were going to do to me even before Mom snapped on a pair of rubbery, white latex gloves."

*** This one is definitely a vivisection fanfic with graphic descriptions, so beware that content. Again, haven't read it in a long time but it had satisfied my angst itch back in the day.

"A continuation to Cordria's starshot #69 "Wondering". Danny's been captured and tortured by his parents, but he refuses to say a word until his psychiatrist starts connecting the dots. Can he risk keeping it a secret any longer?"

*** Another angst, lab experiment-esque fic. There are definite graphic scenes (as warned in the first chapter). I do remember this fic being huge in the 2010s (definitely a staple of the Phandom). The relationships and Danny recovering from his torture were great highlights.

"Maddie knows that the Booo-merang has keyed into Danny, for whatever reason, so what's she to think when she sees it collide with Phantom?"

Don't quite remember this one, but Lynse is amazing at writing, so it's bound to be a good read.

"Follows Connections. Danny's secret's not as safe as he thinks, what with Maddie unable to ignore her wild suspicions any longer and piecing things together and Jack asking questions all on his own."

"Danny leaves with his bathroom excuse and leaves Dash curious. He follows Danny and ends up the the gym room with him. While they're in there, an earthquake occurs and leaves them trapped inside. Will any secrets be revealed? No DashxDanny! They're just the main characters!"

This one is another one that I've read multiple times over the years! From what I remember, it was a fun read involving Dash and Danny being trapped in the gym after an earthquake, and explores how Danny handles his secret around Dash while they wait for rescue.

💙👻 A Jock and a Hard Place by AnneriaWings

"Danny and Dash were silent, trying to wrap their mind around that stupid, simple fact – the door was locked. They were trapped. In a janitor's closet. Together. (Collab with Haiju)"

No romance in this one! Another story where Danny and Dash get trapped together. I've read this one several times, and remember enjoying the tension of Danny's secret being revealed. I also think they explored Danny and Dash's relationship in a fun way!

Gonna be real with ya'll, I don't remember this one at all. But uhhh I'm gonna throw it on here just because I can. :)

Yet again, I don't remember this fic. Sorry! But it's under 8000 words, so it's a little bit of a shorter read than some of the ones on this list!

Also not a fic I remember. It's got about 50,000 words so thought I'd throw it in for anyone that likes a longer fic!

Don't remember it, but HaiJu had/has some great fics! Seems to involve Danny and Maddie after skimming the first chapter.

Everyone but Danny thought it was bad luck when they became ship-wrecked on an island in the middle of nowhere. No one but Danny fully understood the dangers lurking in the trees. No one but Danny knew how much danger they were all in so far from home."

This one involves Danny and his class getting out of Amity Park, so it's a little more oc-filled and explores a nontraditional setting for the trio. There might be a little SamxDanny in this one if I remember correctly, but overall I do remember having fun reading through this!

"Sam's only friend is the ever-loyal Tucker, ever since Danny began slowly distancing himself from them after some accident freshman year. She wanted a friend, but she never thought she'd find the one she was looking for in the highly debated ghostly hero of Amity Park.

AU = Danny alone during the portal accident. Looks like there's some SamxDanny in this one! Don't remember it but heck I might have to reread it since the synopsis has me interested.

THIS story is definitely a favorite and fun read! The ending battle chapters always gets me excited to reread! ***Danny does get straight up shot by Dash at the beginning so be warned for that content. But I remember a post going around a year or so ago where someone had drabbled about Danny getting up after being shot by Dash. This story explores that concept with a longer plot!

"Lost deep in the woods with an undead pack on their heels, Maddie and Phantom find themselves entangled in an awkward alliance. Can they cooperate long enough to get out of this mess?"

Another favorite! This one explores Maddie and Danny's relationship, kind of similar to how the show did in the Maternal Instincts episode. I adore how HaiJu explores Maddie's thought-process with dealing with Phantom in a situation where she kind of needs him and he won't leave her alone. Great mother-son fic!

👻 Phantom of Truth by Haiju

"Locked away in a secret government lab with Phantom as her subject, nothing stands between Maddie and the truth... except, perhaps, herself."

Haven't read this one in a loooooong time, but I remember being around for HaiJu updating this fic, posting about it on Tumblr, and the Phandom being generally hyped for it. Another staple for the Phandom! It's another torture fic, so heads up regarding that content!

💙👻 Shadow of a Doubt by Haiju (Sequel to Phantom of Truth ^)

"The truth was supposed to save Danny. Fix things. The lab, the experiments, the lies, those were all in the past. Weren't they? Sequel to Phantom of Truth."

And then BAM on top of finishing Phantom of Truth, HaiJu hit us all with a completed sequel! I was super excited whenever this fic got updated, felt like I was waiting for a new episode to air on TV every time! There's some OCs in this since it explores Danny running away from Amity, but I remember genuinely loving the OCs and loved reading about Danny mentally recovering from being experiment on.

One Piece Sir Crocodile-centric AU where at some point during the Alabasta saga Crocodile realizes that Luffy's his son, but doesn't know what to do about it.

He gets so stressed over it that he winds up confiding in "Miss All Sunday" during a moment of weakness, desperate for someone to tell him what the hell he's supposed to do in this situation...!

(She doesn't have any answers for him, but she won't forget what he has told her...)

It influences him to go a bit easier on Luffy during their fight (at least to the point that he doesn't bother using Haki) not expecting that he'd ever actually be defeated—and yet...

When he wakes up he's on a ship; Nico Robin is leaning over him. "Hello, Boss," she says. "You've been out a while—but I'm going to need you to sleep for a little longer."

The next time he wakes up there's more noise—shouting and the pounding of sandaled feet on wood. He hears a "gomu gomu no—"

And, shit.

She didn't...

do you have any favorite one piece panels? or robin panels? from the manga :)

Sorry I took so long, I just have SO much I want to talk about. Since I have another ask about Robin panels, this one will focus on my favorite panels in general and I'll focus on Robin ones on that ask! These also aren't all just panels, some of them are pages/spreads. Some are emotional, some are aesthetic, and some are just funny. These are ones that impacted me specifically, and not all of them are like. Super iconic moments or ones I see a lot maybe? Some of them are. I'm rambling, this is a really long post. Sorry. I just love One Piece...

This is one of the first panels that hooked me in when I saw spoilers for Gear 5. It stuck with me SO much when I finally started the journey. There's so much joy and light in it, and intrigue with why Robin is sitting to the side. This panel will live in my heart forever.

I don't need to explain the emotional impact of the Summit War Saga, but I cannot applaud Oda enough for having the end of it being our hero weeping that he has his crew that he loves and that they're a light to the darkness he just went through.

I have a lot of attachment to characters who are young and have to grow up early, and Momo is like an insanely good example of this. But ALSO the way Luffy encourages his autonomy and his choice and hypes him up to fight for his own freedom alongside him. I just love these brothers.

It's a similar story with Bonney for me. The way he encourages her to fight for herself and what she's lost for her freedom - something SO important for her and Kuma - makes me cry. The faith she has in the future because of Luffy is just. So. Good. The things this manga has to say about joy in laughter, freedom, and creativity means SO MUCH TO ME. There's also something so special about the way she says she's been looking for him, and he responds that he's been with her the whole time. It's so.

I just think this is one of the best pages in the manga. Genuinely.

More Kuma, but I find this panel from the chapter that's technically "unfinished" to be so fucking gutwrenching. I know a lot of it was due to time constraints and Oda's a busy guy, but the way he couldn't finish THIS particular chapter honestly? Added to the emotional impact for me? I could totally be wrong, but to me it felt like he got too emotional working on it and combining that with the time constraints he had to turn it in as it was, and I personally love seeing an artist's hand in their work.

The whole Roger flashback shook me to my fucking core. This part and when he finds the poneglyph on Skypiea specifically.... Ugh. Ough. I can't wait to see this story come to an end, but I don't want it to end.

I can't not talk about Brook, but his encounter with Big Mom is so incredible for him as a character. We once again see how unshakable his loyalty is, and calling an emperor "young lady?" Oh my God the balls on this skeleton. Also, I adore Big Mom, she's my favorite villain. I'll have to gush about her sometime too.

I have a very special connection with Toko and Hiyori specifically. I also lost my dad (though I have a complicated relationship with him, he ultimately did what he could for me and I will always love and miss him deeply in a way that it's hard to express) a few years ago. The horror of losing a loved one and only being able to laugh is. So powerful, Oda was insane for SMILE. However, there's also something I'm attached to 'cause I remember very distinctly the day he passed, I went to lunch with some friends to have company, and I remember my friend telling me later that she knew I would be okay because I was laughing. It didn't really stick with her the same way it did with me, but for some reason that thought stuck in the back of my mind. IDK I'm rambling, but I find the message of laughter in One Piece being tied to freedom very very important to me.

Speaking of Hiyori, I gotta say, 1044 is what got me into One Piece, but I didn't see ANYONE talking about Hiyori's role in that chapter when I saw the spoilers, so I didn't even think about it until I read it myself. When I tell you her entire scene with Orochi gave me goosebumps I am being so fucking serious. She did not, and I repeat, she did NOT "interrupt" Gear 5. She fucking HERALDED IT.

(Here's two that I just find so incredibly funny with or without context) I feel like I'm missing some and I'll come back and edit them if I think of them, but these are the non Robin centric ones that have really stuck with me. I know there's some in Arlong Park and all that that I'm missing, but yeah. It feels wrong to cut it off here but if you made it this far, thank you for reading!!

There's also the Mural, but that one is like. Fucking crazy and we don't know the FULL significance yet so I'll leave my thoughts on that until later.

Author's note: Well as much spoilers as the Hazbin Leaks would give us, but just to be safe! I'm going to put the 'keep reading' before the spoilers.

This was inspired by the song Would You Fall In Love with Me Again? by Jorge Rivera-Herrans and Anna Lea Casey (The Ithaca Saga of Epic the Musical) and I started bawling listening to the whole saga.

Time moves differently in Heaven.

When Lute came to you in the middle of the night with a tourniquet and a missing arm, you knew that Hell won. She held you as you both cried on the ground over Adam’s halo, dull and missing its light.

You remember screaming into the ground as if hell’s princess has killed you herself. Your heart shattering at your husband’s demise.

It rained heavily for the first time in eons, as if the Father himself weeps for his first created son.

Days have blurred together, the Seraphims and cherubs taking care of you in your tender state. The halo of your husband minimized into a bracelet so you may always have a piece of him on you. You were so angry, so lonely, so confused on why he left you.

Your grief knows no bounds, the smile that you once have has not reached your eyes in a while. Always hiding away as Heaven didn’t seem so much of a paradise to you anymore.

Abel, the one you treated as a son, grown as he is, escorted you to your seat in Adam’s counsel box, before leaving you alone to move to his seat, awaiting an emergency meeting.

You did not want to come as the last time you did, you knew of your husband’s secrets, bringing forth a big fight.

What kinds of things did you do?

The guilt of pretending to sleep when he left for the last time almost ate you alive.

You could still feel the soft kiss on your cheek and a whisper of love before he took flight.

"I love you...my sun"

You wish you could’ve said it back.

You remembered the fight vividly, how he yelled and begged you to understand that all of this was to protect you. If his own flesh and blood was killed by a demon spawn, he would never forgive himself if the fallen snake could rise and take you too.

You wished you could’ve heard him out, to understand but the image of those souls screaming and begging for their lives as his army took them down was too terrifying to ignore.

When the speaker of God came from above, you gasped when you finally noticed the serpent in chains in the middle of the court.

It told of its sins in the mortal world, bringing its guilt to the grave. Tears of shame cleansing him of his sins begging the court for forgiveness.

You felt the light wash over you as you grip the edge of the boxseat, listening to the serpent, Sir Pentious, be forgiven by the speaker closest to God.

Adam was…wrong? Both sides were scared. It was only Heaven that attacked first? All in the name of an assumption. You’ve heard of the Queen of Demons and her song of deceit , the first woman. You don’t become the first man’s wife without hearing about the last two.

You saw Lute point to you, crazed that these disgusting sinners should be forgiven. You paid her no mind, only seeing the Sir Pentious.

Lute was taken away, kicking and screaming, for counseling. You almost felt sorry for her. Adam helped her break away from being another blank face in the army. Bringing individuality to his girls to the point they developed their own likes and dislikes, dreams and personality.

His death caused righteous anger with no way to quell the flames.

You prayed Abel can tame the wildfires.

Left a trail of red on every island As I traded friends like objects I could use Hurt more lives than I can count on my hands But all of that was to bring me back to you

The Sir Pentious was under constant watch, he cannot be left alone always having two cherubs on his shoulders for supervision.

You visited him in his workshop, accompanied by Emily the younger Seraphim who trusted the serpent at first sight.

“You were redeemed…”

“Yesss...?”

“Forgive my husband for…hurting you and your friends”

Tears rolled down your cheeks as Sir Pentious wrapped you in his slender arms, saying that he would’ve done the same thing if it meant protecting the ones he loved.

You felt your heart mending itself slowly as you cried the darkness away in his arms, slowly letting hope back inside.

His clawed hands gently strung his guitar, his voice softly echoing as he sang his ballad into the red night. Heart heavy with lament as he finally truly accepted his fate.

The eye of heaven was beautiful in the dark red sky. Golden heaven-borne eyes constantly following the rings spin in its orbit day after day. How long has it been? Will heaven ever forgive him?

Adam’s army has trouble accepting Abel as their new leader but some as came forward to continue Adam’s legacy.

We are all pebbles on the side of the road

A "One Piece Fan Letter" personal review.

Have you ever thought, while watching or reading One Piece, "Wow, there are so many Marines. So many!" Like during the battle of Marineford in the war for supremacy. Or, in the more recent saga of Wa no Kuni, as I read the chapters, I always thought, "But how many subordinates does Kaido have exactly? Hundreds... thousands?" Moreover, what struck me most was how these crowds were nothing more than that: crowds. A bunch of characters or people thrown in quite carelessly, as if to make up the numbers, or as props. They could be like a forest or a city skyline. Often reduced to mere extras for some tacky gag or a punching bag for the enemy of the moment who occasionally made a hundred of them fly into the air with the flick of a finger. To be clear, I am not referring to marginal characters who actually have a role in the story, or subjects of kingdoms under the rule of an evil monarch. I refer to those extras drawn in the space of a single panel, on a single page, without name or role. You may have noticed them. No? I'm not surprised. The truth is that habituation has taken its course and over time these extras have practically become invisible. Sometimes in my mind they were just phrases, no longer even people. Like:

"The Straw Hats!! They are the Straw Hats!!" "There they are, get them!" "GYAAAAAAA!" "RUN!" And so on. My feeling was that these bunch of people were essentially dehumanized in our eyes. You have certainly seen hundreds of Marines, pirates and maybe civilians, perhaps injured or terrified in the world of One Piece, but unless the scene focused on one of them, essentially (as far as I am concerned, of course) I didn't even see them. Not anymore. They were there to show how strong this or that character was, or to make up the numbers.

It is not a bad thing, indeed. They can be a means of communication to the reader, so useful, but... well, quite boring. I realized that the special episode of One Piece "Fan Letter" would please me very much already after the first minute of playback. After the usual introduction we all know: "Wealth, fame, power..." etc. etc. the narrator's voice suddenly added this phrase to the usual spiel:

"Even in such times, the majority of people do not aspire to be pirates and do not pursue the One Piece. Just like them..."

I won't spoil it, but the episode showed something we didn't know we needed in One Piece: the human side of ordinary people. Of those extras, of those phrases that we sometimes don't even read or hear. Of how wars, clashes, involve people in a devastating and horrible way. In this episode (told from the perspective of ordinary people, not under the dominion of usurpers or pirates with delusions of grandeur) men and women like the Straw Hats, like the members of the Seven Warlords or like the Marine top brass, appear for what we sometimes forget they are: beings with strength and power akin to creatures not belonging to this world.

We enter the everyday lives of those who are not writing history, but see it unfold and come to pass before their eyes, involved in it willingly or unwillingly, for better or worse. Where the Straw Hats, if you are lucky, you can only catch a glimpse of them as they sail away forever. Of whom you only know the name, of these pirates so far away that sometimes you wonder if they actually exist.

And I really realized how much we needed this perspective, after so much time seeing it through the eyes of the hero. To discover once again how these characters appeared to our eyes, with superhuman powers, questionable combat techniques (do you really need three swords?) and the admiration and inspiration they brought us. Of how, even though of the Marines or mere civilians, the story of these pebbles is there, present, breathing and fighting, even at the margins. Not just words on a page. But heart and blood and fear and love. And joy... and pain. For some, the Straw Hats are just strangers glimpsed on a newspaper page, among the streets of a city or petty thieves making trouble on the other side of the world. And I don't know about you, but I find this absolutely fascinating. It's like watching someone experience One Piece for the first time. We were all there once, we just forgot.

It might seem disheartening to feel 'small,' to sense that your life doesn't make a difference, being that pebble on the side of the road. But the truth is, it is on this road that the 'great ones' pass, and we pebbles make them legends as they leave it forever. It's their story, our story. The story of everyone.

And that gives life and meaning to adventures.

It’s very interesting and indicative that when fans of the DMC gameverse criticize the netflix show, they’ll go on multi-paragraph posts on why they loved the original franchise and why the netflix show is a cheap insult to it.

But the all the netflix defenders got is: “The characters are hot and the fight scenes are cool! Stop being such a hater sheesh 😒” I feel bad for the furries that got into the netflix show because of the rabbit tbh.

This is an issue that has been going on not just for DMC, but for many other pieces of media. How many times have we heard that argument? "Don't be a hater, if you don't like it just don't watch", this isn't how things work. Yes, I agree there's no reason to jump at people who have enjoyed something and tell them that they're stupid for doing it — but it's thanks to criticism that nowadays the world isn't the exact same way it was before.

"If you don't like it don't watch, you're being a hater" is nothing but the equivalent in media for "do not fight for your rights, do not question what you're given nor put into", an argument fascists and dictators use. Do these people think that we would be where we are now if people hadn't voiced their complains? Being a comformist has its consequences, and those consequences are being shown.

Sure, this is just a netflix series, not the removal of basic human rights, but that doesn't make it any less concerning: accepting any product that is given to you regardless of how good or bad is, is nothing more than a branch of that bigger problem. "It's better than having nothing" so you would rather eat raw meat that could damage you rather than starve? I'm sorry, but I would not. I'm just the average person on planet Earth and I deserve to be treated with the same respect as the guy who has too much money on his hands. You can't be a comformist and go "at least we've got crumbs!", no, you're not supposed to get crumbs, you're supposed to be given the piece of bread on the table like everyone else.

Now, with that said since this ask is about DMC, let's go back to that:

Devil May Cry isn't a perfect saga. It had its ups and downs. But, and we have to make this clear, it's thanks to the people who voiced their complains about those downs that we were given proper content as costumers. Sure, Itsuno may have been annoyed himself and wanted a proper game to follow Kamiya's own, but do you really think the company would have given him the necessary time and resources for DMC3 to happen if people hadn't voiced their displeasure with DMC2? No, they're a company, not an indie developer nothing speaks more to them than money. If people had accepted DMC2 anyways because "it was better than having no sequel" they wouldn't have given the necessary things to make DMC3 happen, because they would have seen that unfinished games and lack of attention and consideration would give them benefits anyways.

Why are people right now voicing their annoyance with (mainly Nintendo's) current game prices? Because if we don't, then the only ones allowed to play them will be the 4 ones around there that can afford them. And that's because, regardless of what the majority says, if there's people willing to pay for such an insulting price, they won't bother to listen. "I'm gonna buy it anyways because I'm a fanboy" what you're being is incredibly comformist. "It is what it is" has done a lot of damage to people's mentality. Don't get me wrong, companies know about this, so the moment people doubt about those prices, they will add 'limited edition' to them, so everyone panics, thinking they're gonna miss on this precious product if they don't buy it now, regardless of the price.

We humans don't act by instict nowadays, and that's why we're so easy to manipulate. "You're gonna miss on this" or "your favorite piece of media will have nothing else if you don't accept this" or "you're being ungrateful, at least you got something".

I don't want 'something', I don't want 'the bare minimum', I want to be given the same worth I am giving those people for such a product. You want 90€ for a game? Sure, as long as it is worth them. Because, no, the 10th MarioKart is not worth that money.

There's a reason why handmade products cost more than the ones from a factory. They take more time, more effort, more research, more care... And more passion.

Netflix is a company. They don't care if you liked their content or not, as long as you pay — that's why series such as Devil May Cry have been splitted into two. Because, no, those 8 episodes were not season 1. It's just been a week, this has been planned since the start, it's not the haters' fault that the next season was announced. Season 2 is also season 1, they simply divived them so they would get people to watch the first half with hype, regardless of how less people watch the second half due to the awful job of the showrunner and writers. They are businessmen before anything else, they knew everyone, haters or defenders, would be watching at day 1 due to the amount of hype (and lies) built around the series. They don't care if you're gonna watch season 2 or not — you already gave them their money; they already have a bunch of people defending the series SIMPLY to be against those who did not like it; they already have a lot of people who simply want to entertain themselves and not engage with said piece of media... Why should they care about it being something done with the minimum effort?

"It's not a canon universe" that's not the point, not at all — but what am I supposed to expect from people who defend a series that is representing a certain group of people as demons, huh? The REAL issue is HOW these characters have been changed:

"It's an AU" why, though? Why would you want to make them swap roles? This isn't a Dante and Vergil situation in which people come up with interesting concepts regarding their trauma and experiences, their own personalities and behavior — no, this isn't that. This is Shankar seeing Sparda, a character that was written as someone who gave up on his own power to join humanity; and Mundus, a character who would kill anyone who interacted with Sparda simply because he sided with the weak. Is it fiction? Yes. Does it affect reality? Well... Isn't this showrunner a Trump supporter? I wonder why, huh.

This guy saw Lady, a girl who and killed her own father for the sake of everyone else. A girl who lived with guilt the rest of her life because she has killed her father. A girl who put others above herself in commiting an act such as murder, patricide, with her bare hands. a girl still compassionate enough to cry such a horrible man's death.

And what has Shankar turned her into? A genocidal, racist cop. Shankar saw a girl who cried for a man who deserved nothing but to disappear — and he thought she was better as a sociopathic soldier.

Vergil, a boy who despite believing all his life due to his traumatic experiences that humans were miserable weak creatures, he never hated them. Despite being blinded by trauma for decades — he never hated humanity.

What did Shankar see in him? A man who would side with the responsible of his family's death and disappearance.

"It's an AU" or "the game's stories were never good anyways" or "you people are just haters".

Haters... So you are against people voicing their opinion? "No, I just don't want you throwing it at me." No one's throwing anything at you, not real critics, at least, they're posting it in their OWN accounts. "But I still see it." What are the silence and block buttons for? "But you just don't want us having fun." We just don't want you to defend a product made my an egocentric Trump supporter. What? Being a hater of Christianity now makes you automatically a defender of the poor? I never knew you guys were this naive... Or dumb.

Whenever it's a blue checkmark on Twitter... Yes, I do wonder how much you were paid to defend this shitshow. But whenever it isn't — why? Why are you waisting your energy? Sure, go ahead and enjoy the show. Let people speak their minds, just ignore them if you're such a boring person to have no taste and consume any piece of media that is shoven into your throat simply because "the animation is cool." It's... It's an animated series, isn't that the bare minimum?

"I don't condone the showrunner's behavior, I only like the series." Do you not see how this was written? Is your brain really that rotten? Have you spent that much time on TikTok with brainrot one-minute videos, that you've forgotten how it feels to be able to think by yourself? You can't despise the showrunner's behavior and support his product, do you think he's gonna care about your ideology, as long as you consume the product of his narcissism and egocentrism?

I know many examples of people with too much money on their hands to pay for others to speak well of them, be it articles, or news, or companies, or individuals... (if anyone's intrigued, or doesn't believe me, DM me, i don't mind giving another example). We live in a capitalist society, for the love of god, NO review from 'professionals' is genuine. Do you really believe in Rotten Tomatoes? The page that had a 82% on Blonde when it first aired, and after time and discussions passed, now it has a 50%?

7.70 out of 10, and you give it a 96%? Then, 3.3 out of 5, and you give it a 61%? That 3.3 out of 5 comes from people not being able to rate something properly with numbers, it's a mix of 0/5 reviews and 5/5 reviews, it's not a fair number. The single negative critique of te 'critics' talks about how the series isn't really a homage to the original games has most likely not been read. Neither the rest — but who cares, most are positive, right? That's our nowadays issue. "I'm not reading all that" or "yapping" in our culture has done a lot of damage to critical thinking, and people acting as individuals.

If you understand Spanish well, I recommend this video in particular about reviews, and how all of them are fake, be them paid or not. Please, it's not a waste of time at all.

... About that last part, I do not feel that bad for the ones who got into it because of the rabbit. It's again, the same thing: so, regardless of how bad a series was, you find the fucking furry hot, so you don't care and praise the product anyways. You find a single thing of it good, and that already makes it the Holy Grail for you.

I don't think we have a solution for this. Not anymore, with how putrid our brains are nowadays. After all, it's easier to attack the people who demand a quality product, than the rich guy behind said product, isn't it?

The Fate of Antinous

OK, so recently I've seen the final stream of Epic: The Ithaca Saga and absolutely loved it. The stories of Odysseus, Telemachus, and Penelope were all handled wonderfully and the songs were bangers, every single one. And the finale definitely ensured that my eyes weren't dry.

Just to be perfectly clear right now: I think that the Ithaca Saga is perfectly fine as it is. It's absolutely phenomenal, and Jorge's musical prowess is on full display here.

That said... I do think there's one thing that would have made the story a little better, at least for me personally. I'm kind of ashamed to say it, but I'm... somewhat disappointed with how quickly Antinous is dealt with. Don't get me wrong, I know that it's 100% in character for Odysseus to shoot him dead on the spot with the vile things he was saying, and it was utterly hilarious to see it happen, but I feel like his presence overall could have been just a little longer, and all the better for it.

Firstly, in the Wisdom Saga Antinous is built up as the pseudo-leader of the suitors, being their main voice and the one who takes Telemachus's challenge. He seems to speak for all of them, similar to how Eurylochus was the voice of the crew.

This role is reinforced in "Hold Them Down" with Antinous leading their rejection of the challenge and their own 'mutiny' of sorts. I mean, just look at this guy. He's plotting anarchy and he's having fun.

And especially near the end when describing what they plan to do with Penelope... I mean look at this guy, he is tweaking out

I mean, all the pieces were in place to have this guy be the leading antagonistic force throughout the saga, and it a way he kind of is. Still, I personally would have liked to see his character get just a sliver more in the spotlight.

Fortunately though, there's already a spot that fits him perfectly and doesn't affect the storytelling integrity of the saga at all. In fact, I think it only strengthens it!

So picture this with me, if you will. "Hold Them Down" proceeds as normal, even ending with Antinous getting shot with an arrow. However, instead of getting shot in the neck like the original he's instead hit in the shoulder or side, something that will shut him up long enough for Odysseus to begin his own boss music. While Odysseus makes his threats... no, promises to the suitors, Antinous scampers away like a coward for the time being.

Later on when the weapons are discovered, Antinous can slide perfectly into the role of Melanthius. They both have beef with Telemachus and threaten to break his bones, and both are leading a large group of suitors to generally make life worse for everyone.

When their efforts are threatened by Telemachus, it's a personal encounter for Antinous. He's already beaten this kid down once, and clearly his 'lesson' didn't stick. So perhaps it's time to reiterate his point. And this would be personal for Telemachus too, since he's going up against the main guy he's been beefing with. But it would also strengthen what makes Telemachus unique in this situation, as he'd be offering mercy to the man who had threatened to break all his bones and violate his own mother.

Of course, Antinous rejects this offer and orders the other men to attack Telemachus, not fighting himself as he still has an arrow wound to deal with.

Now, just imagine the collective dread of the fandom if it was Antinous holding Telemachus and threatening to break his hands (which is an odd recurring thing with Antinous, him wanting to break people's bones) in this image instead of Melanthius, whom we unfortunately know nothing about.

And imagine how satisfying it would have been when Odysseus finally finished the job...

Because as it turns out, Odysseus didn't kill Antinous on purpose, just to make an example out of him. He recognized him as their leader, and decided it would strike more fear into the rest of the suitors if he made it clear that absolutely no one and nowhere was safe in that castle.

I mean, just look at the dramatic shot composition, the lighting, everything. This scene is begging to have this be the death of a named character, a character familiar to us, for whom we've long been waiting to see perish in a rightfully gruesome manner...

Of course, I realize that I don't know the greater context of the Odyssey, so I don't know if this is now things went in the book. But here in Epic, I feel that this would have made for a slightly more streamlined storytelling experience.

Plus, these are just my thoughts. I'll reiterate again, I am perfectly fine with how Antinous is handled in the actual song. It's honestly hilarious to see him instantly get killed off while trying to rally the other suitors. I just think that this would have been a perfect payoff to all the setup around this particular villain. But what do y'all think?

finally finished, and this one may be my best custom yet: introducing the HG Gundam Zabanya (Last Stand Ver.)!

this one's been a looooong time coming, and what a fun ride it was!! the top shelf of my first gunpla display case has, naturally, always been reserved for 00 kits (and sometimes their build fighters/divers variants—looking at you, cherudim saga and 00 diver arc), and with the current setup i have in there, i knew that i probably only had room for one more gundam, so that gundam damn well better be a good one.

and oh my god was this a good one. full breakdown under the cut.

the build itself, being a high grade from 2010, wasn't really anything special, but who cares about that, i got to try out WEATHERING for the first time! weathering fucking rules. you take your marker ink and the shittiest, stiffest paintbrush you own and you just absolutely go to town. how could i not love that. brilliant exercise, gorgeous final product, this will definitely not be the last time i do this to a kit.

the gold, silver, gunmetal, metallic red, bright metallic green, and some of the white was also handpainted, and the crystal over the forehead sensor was sharpie-dyed with navy blue. this kit comes with a ton of stickers for color accuracy (a common issue with HG 00 kits) but thanks to all this paintwork i ended up barely using any of them.

that snazzy gun comes as a donation from my spare parts box, since i wasn't really a fan of the two rifles that come with the base kit. i honestly have no idea what kit it's originally from (EDIT: i have now been informed that it was MG kyrios's submachine gun), but it was basically one solid hunk of grey plastic with a single green sticker on it before i jazzed it up with all the gunmetal and the weathering.

this kit also served as a trial run for my new DSPIAE gunmetal brush pen, and i'm very pleased with how it looks and how it felt to use! if other DSPIAE markers are as good as this one, consider me sold. prone to scratching, though, so definitely a marker better served for accent pieces or parts you're not expecting to handle very much.

the cloak was just some cheap amazon purchase, i think. smelled awful for whatever reason. works great, though, especially once i roughed it up a bit with scissors. there's a little wire in the collar that keeps it scrunched shut around the head.

the ELS crystallization was done with the same trick i used on my ELS Brave: cut up a couple (in this case, two) spare beam saber blades into a variety of pointy shapes, glue 'em on, paint 'em silver.

i think the lore i was going for with this custom design was that this was from a version of A Wakening of the Trailblazer where the fight(s) with the ELS went on for much longer, thus prompting a more last-ditch, ragged appearance from zabanya (hence the name Last Stand). i'm sure setsuna will take care of things before those ELS crystals spread too much further, though...!

and, finally, since that big cloak and all those ELS crystals do cover up quite a bit, here's some photos i took of just the kit by itself in all its weathered glory.

it’s the funniest thing to me that everyone supports an underdog driver till they actually perform exceptionally well.

take lando for example. he was the fan favourite when he had the midfield car, and was still consistently getting podiums or finishing in points. the second he got his first win, so many people switched and forced an egoistic attitude personality on him without even knowing if he’s got such an attitude or not. and then, everyone ran with it. so it became that when he celebrated his wins, he was egoistic, and when he didn’t celebrate his wins, he was ungrateful.

franco is one of lando fans’ fav, because franco reminds us of lando a lot. while he is loved right now, other fans would switch up on him soon and then force an image on him because it fits their narrative.

people hate on lando because of an image they added themselves, but not because his driving, because his driving is actually good. it’s beautiful.

and till the time, people were happy with their fav winning and their fav loving this little underdog dude. now that this underdog dude is defeating their fav and their fav still loves this little underdog dude, people can’t handle it, as if it’s a crime committed against them.

i have so much to say about this issue.

branching off of this post, which captures the entire saga perfectly, i think max fans see lando an inferior, lesser than. granted, lando doesn't have as many wins, doesn't have a wdc yet, but i'm talking 'he must always stay beneath max because that's where he belongs'. it very much boggled me when people started liking lando all over again when the contention (that wasn't even contention since mclaren weren't aiming for it in the first place; lando just so happened to be that good that he was crawling his way up and suddenly the were fighting not only for the wcc, but half-heartedly for the wdc too) was over in las vegas.

this is why i do not take any max fan seriously. i watched them batter this man to pieces in every post they made, wish death upon a man that didn't even do shit, just for them to do a whole 360 and claim they 'like him again'.

saying that he bottled the championship, which is genuinely the most deranged, degenerate thing i've heard because to bottle something, you actually have to be in the advantageous position (read: p fucking 1). which he never was. so this definitely told me that a) people were very much not smart enough to know the meaning off the word 'bottle', and b) they were all just leeching of what each other had said and posting it because they have no competent bone in their body to be independent.

ruined him so bad just for it all to be over something so stupid, for all of his antis to hop off the hate train only because he's not challenging max; it's like they forget the fundamental of this sport, which is competition. max is not always going to dominate, seeing as how many strong prospects are now coming to the grid (and are also having their time to shine after being in the dark for so long). and they need to find some other way to manage that frustration because it's irritating to watch them take lando's words out of context just villainise him.

now, could you argue that all of is this due to the fact that lando had been in a midfield car for so long, that now he has a competing car for basically the first season, people are outraged that someone with no winning experience placed so high? maybe. very much all ifs and buts, but i'm leaning more towards the idea that they just can't believe someone who doesn't act like your sterotypical 'wdc' can contend, or even win it.

proof is in the pudding (twitter, tumblr, instagram). they will yield lando's mental health, the fact that he's so self-critical, the fact that he practised sportsmanship and gave oscar the sprint win, to call him unready, soft, 'mentally weak' to quote some. but then they'll switch up when lando's finally confident about his performance calling him stuck up and egotistic.

max fans are the biggest cowards when it comes to accepting that their fave is, in fact, not untouchable, not the weird god they make him out to be. so they find the need to result to lying about lando to deal with it, and since everyone just acquiescents to it all, other drivers' fans that aren't even affected but just need to hate someone, end up joining the bandwagon as well.

and i fear the same will happen to franco. i've always had it nipping at the back of my mind, because everyone loves him right now. yes, he's in a shit car, and there's nothing he can do about that, but the second he'll starting showing up and properly competing, the fabrications people will hold against this man are inevitable. so many fans do not realise that because you're in a shit car, does not mean you're a shit driver, and that that your results are very limited depending on how inert the car is. hence, they're clouded by that image they've already got about the driver. when franco gets into a team with a better car, they'll still see him as the underdog and think he's unworthy how high he'll place (like we all know he will).

You know, if there was one manga that would be adapted to live action and succeed, I never would have guessed it to be this one.

I'm ofc talking about the One Piece Live Action on Netflix

A whole day binge right after release, I was READY, and thankfully, I was not disappointed. There are cuts and streamlining of the story, characters coming in earlier than in the manga/anime, and some of the emotional bits don't hit as hard as in the original. Still, I can feel the love the production team has of One Piece. The characters are goofy and lovable, but they are also serious and straight-faced.

One thing that I noticed throughout was the constant close up to faces and sometimes straight on, as if almost breaking the 4th wall. The very first scene with Luffy is like this, but there he DOES look into the camera directly, but the pov of the camera is revealed to be a newsbird. It's like a statement that they know this is a silly pirate romp, they know that some people will not take this seriously, but they will not do 4th wall breaks silly, but in-universe silly. Does that make sense?

I laughed at several points in the show, big and wide smile on my face and pointing at the screen several times...

But I do wonder how much of my laugh was on the show's on merit or if I was only calling back on the the source material. At times I did feel the straw hat crew not being as iconic as in the manga/anime. The extreme reactions, the over the top noises and actions, at the same time I realize that real people generally don't act like that.

I appreciate the show runners attention to details. Putting stuff in to tease future arcs, adapting some cover stories, some of the complete unhinged behaviors of characters (Garp I'm looking at you!).

This show adapted Romance Dawn, orange town, syrup village, baratie, and arlong park.

There are so many moments that are almost scene by scene taken from the manga. Luffy in the barrel and meeting Koby. Alvida with her giant spike club. We got to see some pre-captured Zoro moments (particularly him killing a baroque works agent!), Nami being a sneak.

Then we meet the one and only clown Buggy! They hammed him up, they made him a showman and a real clown (with a real bulgy nose as well, props!). I loved Buggy. Goddamn what a show stealer. Excellent casting, his devil fruit was show cased so well and it looked good!

Usopp's introduction is the most changed. The kids are gone and the Black Cat pirates never call in the entire crew or Jango. Instead of the fight on the slope by the beach it's instead in Kaya's house from which they cannot escape. The actor for Kuro nailing the mannerism and hand movements, altho his "teleporting" looks a bit wonky.

With Baratie we are finally introduced to Sanji! Who's British now 😆. And Mihawk's introduction tho! Badass and just so over the top and goofy. I love him so much! This is where we got the biggest change where we instead get Arlong and crew coming in smashing the place up (a tiny bit). Arlong may not be as tall as he should be but I love the practical approach instead of CGI, which means he actually feels present! All the fishmen we see are guys in costume and prosthetics!

Arlong Park felt a bit more rushed than the earlier parts, but I do think they nailed *that* scene tho.

If the bar for live action adaptation was below the ground, I would say now there's a new bar, which is on the ground 😅. I think it's a solid show but it might be my bias talking. I do have some gripes tho.

One thing that was constant in East Blue Saga was how much village people hate or are scared of pirates. I think they got the marines right, and the pirates, but they failed to really have the village people be a character in their own right. In the manga and anime the villagers are mostly a monolith who will think and act alike in situations and be part of the happenings either by watching or fighting. We got just about none of it here, except a mention in Arlong Park. They did some really good and cool world building with lots of people populating the sets in the background - but that's it, they're just extras to fill out the screen. There are ofc a few exceptions but I felt it was not enough.

I wish they had Luffy be more agile when using his gum-gum powers. Whenever he springs a pistol or a whip is stands in place, which I found boring (and they did so well with Zoro's fights!). I do think the explanation is that they decided for Luffy to be coming into his powers as we go. That we will learn with him all the things he can do (him not knowing he can blow himself up like a balloon proves this). I hope that in season 2 (please netflix!) they show the growth in his fighting!

But to end this long post. I just wanna say how much I fucking love the dude playing Mihawk. Goddamn he's so fun. MVP.

For the straw hats, I would say that Usopp feels the closest to manga version, and Luffy feels the most distant from it. But I don't dislike this, and I think the actor for Luffy has so much potential to really make the role his own.

It will never be "just like" the manga and anime, but that's ok! It's a new adaptation (in live action) made by people you can tell loves the source material and really really tried to make it work! I respect that, and I respect this show. Please watch it on Netflix! It's a fun and silly time, just like it should be!

The state of the world is looking pretty scary out there. But, I wanted to give you a message that will hopefully bring some hope.

Back when I was 13, the very first Percy Jackson book was just gaining popularity. And that was the closest thing I'd ever seen to disability representation in a book that was massively popular.

Before that? Nothing. Or at least, nothing that people could actively recommend to someone my age.

The closest thing I had to "queer" representation was the scraps I found in fanfiction, much of which, was rampant with ... um ... problems. Big ones. But, it was all we had back then so we held our noses and read it anyway. Most of it, I couldn't bear to finish. But, back then, that was "the done thing," and I am still learning to let go of all of the scars that has left on me. That those are not the loves I deserve. That that is not the kind of love queer folks give. That we are not, nor do we have to be, synonymous with proshipping. Because, at 12/ 13? That's what I was taught by the adult fan writers in my life.

But, I am unlearning. We are makinging a BETTER world for the youth of today.

You don't have to put up with that crap.

Because, now?

We have characters like Ari and Dante from Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe.

We have characters like Kade Bronson, Jack Willcott, Nancy Whitman, and others from the Wayward Children book series.

We have Alex Fierro, Hearthstone, and Blitz from the Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard trilogy.

We have Nico di Angelo from the Percy Jackson saga.

There's a whole host of interesting representation of queer identities in webcomics like The Glass Scientists, Heartstopper, and others.

There are so many more canon characters that are out and being written for the middle grade/ YA crowd in traditional books and graphic novels.

Y'all have cannon representation being created for you right before your eyes. Some of them even have disabilities! Some of them look like you. They think like you. They act like you! And, what a glorious thing that is!

When I was young, the closest thing I had to people who were like me were Disney villains. Many of them were quirky and queer coded. They thought strangely and the moved stiffly or with elongated gaits like my "autistic walk." I never got to see myself "good." (The wicked's lives really are lonely.)

As I grew, I found scraps of myself in Anthony Warlow's musical portrayal of Jekyll in the 1994 recording of Jekyll and Hyde. I found bits and pieces of myself in the way Ramin Karimloo seemed to "stim" as the Phantom of the Opera in the 25th Anniversary version of the Phantom. I fell in love with Diana from Next to Normal, but she didn't really fit either. Our states in life were so different at the time.

I always found parts of myself, but I never found a whole. And, I never really got to be totally "good." I was never the hero of the story. I never had a heart of gold.

So, characters like Undyne, Papyrus, Alphys, and Mettaton would have never existed in a game rated E10+ when I was growing up. The subjects of their narratives were "too taboo" for anyone that young to think about. I was 20 when those characters were created.

Movies like Nimona would have never been made.

So, as much as things suck, as hard as things are, there are good things out there to hold onto. We have come so, SO far. Don't throw all our progress out the window. Don't put your head down and give up.

Fight. We come from a long history of fighters.

They say we don't exist?

Exist harder.

The generation before me marched, screamed, shouted, and yelled so I could exist.

The next phase was getting to tell queer stories that ended with nuance. Queer stories with true queer heroes. Queer stories with happy endings. We're working on that.

I type until my hands are sore. I rehearse monologues and songs for hours so that folks might get to see themselves on stage. Because, all of that is important to me. It's important to me for people to see disabled actors, queer actors, trans actors, doing art, performing art, and doing things out in the world.

It's important to me for people to see disabled and trans folks happy and thriving.

We've hit a set back. We're going back to our organizing stage. We're going back to our roots.

Learn your history. Know that we've fought before.

OH, HOW I LOVE A REDEMPTION ARC. In og she was weak and obsessed with a guy, that's fine - many of female characters were at the beginning, but she never changed. She had a chance for good backstory (being a weak link of a strong family). Why not make her a crazy powerful junin who can lead the family to change? Or maybe get over her obsession with Naruto to become an important and useful part of her team? Or maybe make her singlehandedly end the slavery in Hyuga clan by d*ing for Neji instead of the other way around?
