i watched the original x-men movies when they first came out, but never bothered to watch the prequel/reboot movies. just randomly decided to watch first class and was reminded what i've always felt my whole life: *whispers* magneto was right

i used to be a bit conscious about having so many girls/fem characters in my works (starsaints carnival is the only developed story right now that doesn't have a female protagonist, and most of the time i have to actively go out of my way to make male characters) but you know what fuck it i like girls so i'm gonna write girls goddammit!!!

#this is a bit inspired by my last reblog because so many of my girl ocs are super flawed/villainous/antagonistic/what have you #and then reassassination... literally every girl in there is a mean rude bitch who kills and murders.....#but like if every female character in actual published media that focuses on dudes is gonna be hated for being a bit mean #then why not have all my personal oc projects about mean girls who take focus of the story ?#oftentimes the needless hate of girl charas also stems from the underdevelopment of that character compared to her dude peers anyway #(tho thats not always the case and misogyny is almost always a driving factor in unnecessary hate regardless of the quality of the writing)#i feel like i'm waffling lmao #but in the end i just want to write stories about evil annoying overpowered lesbians who hate everyone #also the whole “mostly girls” with my oc projects probably stems from the fact that i only ever watched stuff about girls as a kid!simple as #i took the tokyo mew mew pill at age 8 and never recovered

You ever read a post that's like

"Meta: Here's how this series has unintentional racism/sexism/ableism/[other bigotry here]"

And you're like, you know what I CAN think of a few moments in my favorite series that were kinda problematic, let me see if this analysis captures those concerns I noticed.

And then the meta's entire argument is basically just "This writer promotes racism because they wrote multiple characters, raised in a racist culture, being racists while surrounded by other racists and no one calls them out for it" and "the characters beat up the bigoted villain but they don't actually sit and talk about why bigotry is bad so that means the author isn't actually condemning bigotry" or god forbid "this character who has some bigoted beliefs still has a personality, is ethical in non related moral situations, and even does good things a lot of the time, so the fact that the author let a bigot be a hero shows that they think bigots deserve to be heroes/excused for their actions."

Like ohhhh my god I thought I was going to get actual textual analysis but instead I got baby's first racism essay where the core message is basically "the story didn't handhold the reader and talk about how bigotry is bad and all bigots are evil and all good people are Not Ever Bigoted Or Problematic" and now I want to smash my head against the wall

#this is less contrived than it looks-- I only pulled the pencil bag out and re-adjusted the sketchbooks slightly #throwing the old (brown) sketchbook down on top of the new one next to my bag just made me go 'oohhhohooh!!!' lmao #IT'S ALL COMING TOGETHER #anyway I'm at the end of the current sketchbook so I'm gonna give an old favorite a go #handbook travelogue used to be my go-to but then we moved away from the local store that sold them #and they were a little more expensive to order online so I haven't had one in like... five years?#NOW I'm curious to see how I'm gonna feel because I KNOW I like this sketchbook obviously #but also I've gotten really used to the soft cover and cheap paper (gluing misc stuff in there; taking pages out if I need to make space)#and the wrap-around cover (not the tie which is tbh annoying but the flap which I usually have a pen clipped to...)#WE'LL SEE. I've definitely missed having better paper #and I'm hoping something a little easier to quickly deploy without flaps and cords just kind of in the way will make me use it more #of course if I could find LOOSE!! paper that I actually LIKED maybe I could make my own that covers ALL my desires BUT ALAS #about me
