Your responses made me realize something about TFP and how Starscream and Megatron were in it: doesn't it... feel so incredibly wrong to hear Starscream calling Megatron "Master" all the time when compared to basically any other media portrayal of these characters? And it was normally said not even in a sarcastic way, but in a terrified, desperate way and later in the series even with a genuine desire to please? There's so much else that feels wrong but that really stands out to me in retrospect. -arceespinkgun

While thinking about this, I was struck with the realization that Prime Starscream's characterization definitely comes from the Bay movies (as does his dynamic with Megatron). From this clip compilation:

It's so strange that Prime Starscream ultimately ends up upholding Megatron's superiority over him, even seemingly coming to care about him. He goes from this (3:58) to this (57:06) because the conclusion of his unaligned arc (20:57) was that he has to return to Megatron because he doesn't have the means to accomplish what he wants on his own (6:10)... which felt so dull because his dynamic with Megatron didn't change while he became loyal / to care about Megatron which was completely undeserved.

The way the dynamics of Prime's Decepticons was written as a whole feels impacted by how they operate near exclusively from their warship (later with the addition of Darkmount), save for some places being used as the backdrop of their battlefield, because they feel so confined/restricted. (Similar can be said of the Autobots too.)

In other continuities Starscream proudly and continuously undermines Megatron's authority, but in Prime he's beholden to Megatron's authority in a very severe way due to the narrative positing him as weaker/inferior. Pairing this with Megatron's cruelty specifically targeting him... it just doesn't say anything meaningful because it's completely unaware of what it's saying by portraying them like that.

Airachnid, comparatively, is given the treacherous role with more seriousness and dignity.

Starscream in Retribution (book 3 of the aligned continuity family novels), I felt, did him and his dynamic with Megatron better than Prime. There, the feigning loyalty/deference aspect feels like it has better purpose/use and the narrative does not posit him as weak/inferior and it makes a world of difference.

For anyone who wanted to watch the Tales of Symphonia Festival 20th Anniversary stream from a few weeks ago, but couldn't get the ticket, I decided to record the entire thing and put it up on g drive. It's been split into different sections and is unsubbed. So, here you go! (This may or may not stay up forever, depending).

Starts off with two character skits, then a concert, the main scenario, some free talk with the VAs, more concerts plus a fan showcase, and a final skit that one day I'm going to translate because it was so adorable and sweet.

Some highlights of the main scenario in particular include: sassy Genis and Raine banter, Presea being precious, Regal teasing a flustered Sheena, Lloyd getting a mini heart attack from Colette, Noishe's dog whines in real time (you won't guess who voices him), a trip down memory lane reliving all of the party members' traumas, cute Flanoir and Altamira deluxe suite reenactments, the audience choosing whether Zelos lives or dies, Colette's VA doing a fistpump of victory for her special scene, Sheena and Zelos sharing one brain cell, extra Mithos dialogue, and actual closure?? between Lloyd and Kratos, all written by Symphonia's scenario writer.

Anyone can feel free to translate, or wait until the DVD is up for preorder. But I had a lot of fun watching this, and think other people will too.

And it be really weird to split up a potential pairing after their build-up in life-death.(Beside, Wolverine and Storm haven't interacted that much in the 97 show)

The aftermath of it is much more crucial for building his character and imo we don't need to see literal fighting if we get a scene of Lestat bloody in the snow, killing his horse, surrounded by dead bodies of the wolves. I'm also wondering if Daniel maybe doubts that part of the story and if that would trigger Lestat because of the way his brothers reacted to it.

Ooo, I agree and I disagree, anon? I agree that the aftermath is vital, but I do think it's a very important beat in terms of demonstrating Lestat's capacity for brutality, which is why both Magnus and Akasha choose him. Up to that point in his life, Lestat has only been brutalised, he's been a victim of violence and neglect so entirely, and yes, he's survived that already over and over, but I think the wolves are a real turning point in terms of what Lestat surviving can and does look like. Lestat will claw his way through life whatever way he has to, and that brutal, killer survivalism isn't something that exists in him as a cruel, angry man, it exists in him as a neglected, abused, frightened child in his father's house and a lonely, isolated, desperate young man alone in the woods (and, soon, both those things in Magnus' tower).

They're foundational parts of who he is, so yeah, I don't know! I don't think they'll lean into the violence that much, but I do think it would feel like a bit of a cop out if the show cut to black, especially given the role 'Lestat the wolfkiller' plays in Magnus' hunting and turning of Lestat.

I love your thought though that Daniel might doubt which would remind Lestat of his brothers, especially given what Jacob's talked about in terms of Daniel and Louis' relationship becoming something brotherly.

So I'm rewatching House MD for. Some reason. Idk I just accept this is where my brain wanted to go I guess.

Anyway I'm in the ep where Vogler first shows up and I remember recently seeing that "Hate when the fandom makes awful stuff up that a morally grey character did. Like free my man he didn't do that. He did do a bunch of other stuff tho" post recently (I swear I'm going somewhere)

So Cuddy and House have that convo about Medical Ethics. And Cuddy is completely right House violates those all the time. However, House's specific criticism was "we're pressuring patients into choices that are bad for them, good for us. We're gonna compromise patient care". Now you can argue about whether what House is doing is "good patient care" (y'know, being a dick to them, ignoring what they want, that stuff), but it is aimed at saving their lives and not at making money, so, that's absolutely not "Taking House's game and going Pro". That is, in fact, doing almost the opposite ("Making patients agree to treatments that will not help them" vs "Forcing treatment on patients that will make them better").

All of which is to say, I'm not active in the fandom, but I'd still wanna tag House in the above mentioned post but with "his boss and coworkers" instead of "the fandom" asdgasjkdh
