okay sorry, one other thing annoyed me about that writing class. one of the students is this super clean-cut doctor who works at an HIV clinic, and he asked the prof "do you ever get distracted while reading books, because you find yourself analyzing the craft of them instead of sinking into the story?"

and she said "no," and turned away. and the whole class laughed awkwardly, bc it was a pretty abrupt and dismissive answer. so then she turned back to him and said "you wouldn't ask a musician if they get distracted listening to songs. they just enjoy the music."

but I dunno, I'm a newbie writer with only one (scheduled-to-be-published) book under my belt, but I get distracted sometimes when I'm reading. if I find I'm not sinking into a block of text, I'll squint at it and be like "okay, they're using too much passive voice, that's why my brain isn't grabbing on to it." so I'm sorry Mr. HIV doctor, I thought your question was reasonable!

Part of the reason that Republicans are so desperately acting like they will never lose again is because they are deeply terrified that this is their last real chance to win. The big orange dipshit came in and gutted the party of everyone who wasn't a loyalist, which left it full of nasty little gremlins who have gaping voids where charisma and human decency is supposed to go.

They still hold a lot of power, but if we stop them this year the next presidential election may not be the Most Important One Of Your Life™, that's not a guarantee or anything, but if they don't win here and now their future looks grim, this dipshit is the only guy they have left and he's extremely diminished and has his brains leaking out of his ears at this point. We can beat him into the ground.

So that's what we're gonna fucking do. We're gonna break these fucking fash. They will crash upon us and we're gonna break their fucking necks. When they come for us they will lose because they're fucking losers and we have each other's backs which is something they fundamentally are incapable of comprehending.

Day 412

To anyone who knows me, I don’t really talk about my hobbies or what I do to my parents. And it’s not just because I got tired of being asked if I was too old for games, or if I thought I would monetize my creative works. There’s also just a very large chasm between my parents and myself when it comes to my thought process.

I don’t know how to bring up the idea that I have to treat myself like a child or a pet in order to get any semblance of adulthood done.

Like I told my mother I was going to go to this festival tonight, and she asked me how did I know about this festival? Because she doesn’t know what goes on in the city (which is fair, most people don’t look up every event that goes on in their city). It was baffling to her that I would just randomly look up events that are going on in the city, without looking for anything specific. 

Had she been just a friend, or a person on Tumblr, I would have just said, like I always say, “My gremlin brain needs enrichment.”

But to tell her that, implies that I don’t really want to go to the festival (also I have to explain to her I call my brain my personal gremlin). Which is true, this is my first full day off of work, and I just did a Pilates lesson, and I still have to clean today. I would much rather stay in and write, or play games or design my journal. However, this festival is close enough and interesting enough to me that I have to go.

Not that I want to go, I have to go.

I will still enjoy it and come back with experiences that I can write about, but it doesn’t remove the fact that I have pretty much given myself an event to do, not too dissimilar to the way my mother would sign me up for a summer camp as a child. And I’m aware enough to know this flies in the face of how ‘normal’ people function. You go to events because you want to go to events, not because you’re secretly a cave gremlin who needs enrichment.
