jackie
jackie is somewhere on the line between a kirbsona and just a kirby oc
they're a pseudopuff, but they lost their arms in an unfortunate incident when they were young so their wings developed to replace them
they're also an amateur ghost hunter and because of it they have at least five different malevolent ghosts haunting them at once
they're feral too like all pseudopuffs are but they're Even More So
#my art#jackie#I'll draw a proper reference of them later#haven't decided on their palette yet but I think I'm going to make their wings black/blue and white like magpies and other corvids

I am a Failure

Recently, I have been contemplating failure and its spiritual dimensions. In large part, this is because failure’s counterpart, success, is such a strange thing to pin down. I think Daniel Berrigan was onto something when he referred to success as being a weasel word and horribly American. But this recent contemplation of mine is also because, by all accounts, Jesus of Nazareth was a failure as well. Certainly, he had the makings of a successful person, but in the end, he died scandalized and humiliated on a Roman Cross.
As I was recently reminded at a gathering of Lutherans, many are certainly happy to celebrate Jesus becoming a failure for us, but those qualities that brought him to a Roman cross seem to be overlooked for the systematic nature of Paul’s letters. At times, I am not so sure what to make of this dynamic, because when Jesus’ words are referenced, they are just as quickly taken out of context.
It might seem strange that I am writing about failure, given my background as a pastor and professor with a Ph.D. I think I would be considered a “success” by some. However, in a very real sense, I don’t know what to do with such a judgment. Not because I am against being considered a success, but because there is so much more to me than just these things. There are many places where I might be deemed a failure. I resigned from a reputable pastoral position in part because of interpersonal dynamics, I struggle with OCD, I can certainly worry about the most ridiculous things, and I can be harsh and impatient. My successes can all too easily cover up my failures or, in another very real sense, my humanity. However, what strikes me through all my experiences is that it is in the failures and the struggles that the gold is found. After all, Christians believe that one man’s failure is what saves us from our sins.
Recently, I read a great interview with theologian William T. Cavanaugh concerning success and failure. In the interview, Cavanaugh explains how, when it comes to positions of power and our desire for them, we rarely ask or consider how the position might change us. Rather, we often view it in the opposite direction, with a very individualistic lens, on how we can change the world through our position. I thought this was such a powerful insight, as we tend to approach the world around us in such ways when, in all actuality, the world around us influences us far more than we influence it. And really, wasn’t that the struggle of Jesus of Nazareth, not succumbing to the influence of the world? Presenting: The AU I accidentally created OOPSIE!! 😬😬😬
And yes, I know, it's another Seperation AU, and yes YES, I KNOW, they're a bit overdone at this point, bUT LISTEN!! That's precisely how I ended up in this situation!!!
So there's a lot of Seperation AUs exploring a lot of different scenarios with the turtles being raised, well, seperately. I've seen quite a few of them at this point, and despite whatever the combination is when it comes to turtle + parental figure, I'm sure I'm not the only one who has noticed a pattern of specifically Donnie often being raised by a villain. Which makes sense, he has a tendency to put on this evil-mad-scientist-act in the show, so of course a lot of us want to see what Donnie would actually be like as a proper antagonist. But that just made me think think of the opposite possibility, of Donnie being the singular good guy while his brothers are all bad guys. Mind you, I'm sure SOMEONE must've thought of this concept before me, but I haven't seen it! So here we are!

In this AU (which doesn't have a name so don't ask!) Splinter only managed to yoink Donnie during The Incident™, so he ended up an only child, while Raph, Leo and Mikey were raised by Draxum. I also imagine Draxum being at least a decent dad considering the circumstances, so the kids he raised ended up with pretty similar personalities to what they have in canon.
Because of that we get Hero Donnie who acts all villainous cuz he's a total theaterkid, and Villain Raph, Leo and Mikey who act all heroic cuz they honestly believe they're doing the right thing in literally destroying all of humankind and as a result developed an intense case of main character syndrome.
Anyway here's some references-
I don't know how far I'll explore this AU. I fully intended to just make like one or two posts rambling about the basic concept, but when I was drawing these images my brain went into full Brain Blast mode and I started coming up with a bunch of other ideas so uh... we'll see how this turns out later I guess haha

Ok yay I'm back from my vacation yipeeeeeee. I started this drawing of Keiki before I left and I was half considering just giving up on it.... until I did a short study of facial planes and then got motivated to work on this again! I'm glad I didn't give up on it though, as I'm actually really happy with this one!
Artist's Notes;
So as I mentioned in my last post about Touhou 17, I wanted to finish this by the game's five year anniversary but with how progress was going I didn't want to rush this so I decided to take a long break from it. Mainly because of the face. For a while now I was kind of feeling like I was stagnating with my drawings, not really in the clothing but in the bodies. There was something about the way I was rendering them that I just wasn't happy with, and after talking with someone else about this issue, I realized that the reason I felt this way was because the faces were too flat and didn't match the rest of the drawing and that I needed to find a way to make the rendering of the face feel consistent with everything else. So after doing a short study of the plains of the face (I used this 3D head model from art station as a reference for my short study, please go give this person some love as they are a lifesaver) I went back into this drawing and applied what I learned here. It was only after that that I finally became motivated to finish the piece, and while it started off as just a simple character sketch like Saki and Yachie's were, the moment I added in Keiki's little fire dragon I knew I had gotten in too deep and now here we are with a full on background. OK it's not super crazy or anything, but it gets the job done and it's better than there just being an empty void behind her. It's rare moments like this when I use brushes other than the Clip Studio Default Charcoal Brush and use the Clip Studio Default Paint Brushes as well (god bless the oil paint and dry gouache clip studio brushes, they were amazing). I don't know why but painting fire has always been really fun for me, there's something oddly satisfying about it y'know? I do think that another reason for this problem was because I was drawing faces like I would in my more sketchy style that didn't mesh well with my lineless style, so I'm glad I've started remedying that.
After adding in the fire dragon I had an idea to kinda make it feel like splash art in the way the composition works... probably because I have been playing Reverse 1999 again and it has taken over my brain. I do feel like Keiki's tools get a little lost in the composition, and I didn't fully render the metal parts of them mainly because I didn't feel like they needed it, but that's just something for me to improve on later down the line.
If you guys are wondering where I went for my vacation, I went to New York and got to go to the MET and the Museum of Natural History. In both places I found Kofun period stuff and I was so happy to see it you have no idea. I remember one of the Haniwa I saw had some neat face paint under the eyes that I tried to replicate with the makeup under Keiki's eyes in my drawing, though I think I'll gave to figure out how to draw makeup on characters because this reads more like blush to me than anything. While drawing this I also looked up some references of Kofun period jewelry and really liked the stuff I found, which also meant that now she has proper Kofun earrings instead of earrings shaped like Kofun tombs. I put some of the things I referenced with a closeup of Keiki's face as well down below. I made her outfit more reminiscent of the outfit I gave her at the beginning of the year with the buttons and all, though I do want to try and draw her in some more period accurate clothing like the Haniwa I took a picture of at the Museum of Natural History. I wish I could find a way to make her handercheif look better though as I wish I made it a little bit bigger, though I think I'm saying this because I've looked at this drawing for too long lmao. Once again something to work on for when I next draw her. Also want to get better at rendering hair, as some details (like the little strands in front of her ears) kinda got unreadable due to the similarities in colour lol.
Now you may have also noticed the little cracks I added onto Keiki's face, and that's because I have fallen in love with the idea of Keiki's body being made from ceramic and that she crafted her body herself. While they aren't very visible I also tried to add some doll joints to her body, which is an idea I played around with in the past but never went to far with. I also want to get better at rendering cracks in ceramic, porcelain, etc, as I'm not sure how those read in the drawing. I also have a headcanon where the cracks in Keiki's face show up because of heightened emotions, and while Keiki is aware of this and does her best to make sure her face doesn't break off.... she will still end up with at least a few cracks during any given day, and she can often forget to repair her own body quite frequently so Mayumi has to remind her quite a lot. Mayumi even taught herself some basic sculpting techniques to help repair parts of her body that are so badly damaged to the point where Keiki can't repair them herself, i.e. if both her arms broke off, Mayumi would put them back together for her so Keiki can at least have something to repair herself with rather than nothing. I also like to imagine that if Keiki created her own body, if you took a look at Keiki from the beginning of her life she would look completely different compared to now.
BTW If you guys are wondering what a very very angry Keiki looks like....ok in order for this to make sense have any of you read volume 11 of Land of The Lustrous? Am I bringing back some memories for those of you that have? Ok good, glad we all got that mental image brewing in our minds, I'll probably draw a version of Keiki that is somewhat inspired by that one day as it's an idea I've had for a little while now. And to those who haven't gotten to that volume yet and are confused.... don't worry about it, just keep reading :)

My oc for the fanevent NRC Summer Splatooza by @ghostiidasponk!
❝Huh.. You found me? You're quite observant.. Surprising for a dreamer.❞
.......Am I using this event to show my new oc? ABSOLUTELY!!! This is my first drawing of her, but she's been on my mind for a while. (I'll do a proper introduction later)
╰┈➤ So meet Reika Neptelis! She's on team duty.

"I'm tired. Can't I go back in my room? My brain is being used too much. I have, like, 20 choices about what to do next. One of them is leaving."
Tap home 4:
"Damn. A dreamer discovered where I was hiding. But it's fine, I already have a few other ideas where to hide and snipe."
Tap home 5:
"Team dream got an annoying idiot who keeps getting on my nerves. What? No, I'm not losing my patience. I'm just bothered, and who bother me better be ready to deal with aftermaths."
Tap home Groovification: locked.

gem and pearl have been doing things together for years! i believe their first shared series was legacy s1, which as far as i know was predominantly stream only, and neither one of them have the vods saved. however, most people into shiny duo these days don’t really include legacy regardless, since it was quite a few years ago and gem and pearl were both much smaller youtubers, so it’s not super known.
the next series they shared is one still talked about a good bit today, which was empires s1, starting in 2021! every creator built up their own kingdom, and gem played as the ruling wizard of the crystal cliffs while pearl was the farmer queen of gilded helianthia. just a short while into empires, hermitcraft s8 started, and gem and pearl joined as the newest members! while they weren’t proper base neighbors, the season as a whole had a lot of interactions between people, so gem and pearl hung out a fair bit. both series ran in tandem.
a few months after hermitcraft s8 ended, s9 began, and this time, gem and pearl based right next to each other as part of the soul group, along with impulse! pearl built up an alien biome while gem was am elven princess, and there are lots of fun shenanigans to be had across the different storylines in the season, such as when the soup group rebelled against king ren’s reign, or the hermitcraft x empires s2 (which gem was a part of but pearl was not) crossover.
gem and pearl were both on the short-lived new life smp, but from what i remember, they didn’t interact much. right at the end of hermitcraft s9, secret life smp started up, which was gem’s debut in the life series, and it has a TON of shiny duo content. though you don’t have to watch the life seasons in order, i’d highly recommend watching secret life first, since shiny duo’s relationships in the later seasons are built off of it.
hermitcraft s10 is the current season, and gem and pearl love nothing more than bothering each other whenever possible—seriously, there’s so much content. through s10’s run, there have also been three life seasons, though two of them were one-off april fool’s specials: real life smp and simple life smp. the latest canon life season was wild life, which ended a few months ago, and shiny duo’s dynamic within it is fantastically fun.
this got a little long, but i hope it answers your question! there are years of shiny duo content, but don’t feel intimidated—it’s far easier to approach if you take it one series/season at a time, and don’t feel obligated to watch them all! though i’d recommend watching the life series in order due to how past seasons influence later ones, the same isn’t true for hermitcraft; save for an odd joke or reference here and there, the seasons aren’t connected, and don’t need to be watched in order to understand. happy shiny duo-ing!
thank you so much XD I'm going to start watching hermitcraft s10 and then once i'm caught up i'll watch some of the life series, if i have time i'll prolly draw something for them too after i've finished watching, they seem adorable

◾️Alright, a month later, I finally made references for the rest of Skid and Pump's family members🎉
◾️Uh... Except for Mr. Wonder, but I wasn't going to change his design in any way, and I wasn't going to draw him in the nearest fanarts yet
◾️The most important things are said in the pictures, but I'll add a couple more commentaries through text here
◾️Skid's Family
◾️I'll start with Lila. In the corner you can see a version of Lila with her old hairstyle. But the only difference from its series version is that the ears are visible. This is due to a headcanon that I came up with, but I won't say it yet (tho I'm really excited to share it)
◾️Now Skid's Dad. Guys, honestly, I've been choosing his name for two days. And stopped at Isaiah
◾️The most difficult thing was to transfer his face from the first attempt, since after that attempt I decided to change the way I draw eyes, so his face didn't look as menacing as I wanted it to be. But I think it turned out okay
◾️See no sparkles in his eyes? This man is dead inside (literally? Who the hell knows)
◾️Pump's Family
◾️It was an interesting process of creating their design. Since I first came up with Pump's reference, the parents + Susie's design had to be based on it
◾️I'll say one thing. What I did to make Jason's appearance is that I just took my design of an 18-year-old Pump and slightly modified it lol
◾️(there are no proper references for 18 y.o. Pump and Skid yet, but I'm really excited to show it when I finish it :>)
◾️I want to talk about the bracelet. I have a headcanon that Pump, inspired by Susie, is a pretty artistic kid too. He also loves to draw and create. And one day he decided to make Susie a gift — this bracelet (made of beads, which he took from her without asking her, but these are just details)
◾️Susie wasn't happy that he took her beads, but she accepted the bracelet, and she never takes it off XD
◾️Pump also made bracelets for him and Skid, but I'll show them later
◾️Okay, that's it. Next, I plan to make some fanarts and animations, if possible. At the same time I will make references for the Hatzgang ;)
◾️Other references:
Skid and Pump < ___ > (new refs later)

Okay I just finished chapter six of your a/b/o fic (iconic, you ate that shit UP and I love the fluff), but I'm still a little confused on the purpose of kneeling.
Like is it just for the alpha and omega to get closer/bond better or is there something else to it?
Aww thank you!!
So, kneeling in its basic form in this fic, is sort of like an intense meditation session. Omegas are the only ones that kneel, and they only do it with alphas. Omegas can in a way kneel on their own, I believe I threw in a reference to that way back in Chapter 1 when reader was talking to the boys for the first time and she was talking about how they had to kneel for two hours straight. Experienced omegas can sort of slip into that mindset themselves, or inexperienced ones may be able to sort of accidentally do it, but it's never quite as intense as doing it with an alpha.
So the mechanics of it bases around the neck being a very sensitive area for omegas. Of course, you have the scent gland (where the scent is most potent and also where the mating bite goes) and then the back of the neck is also very sensitive (I've mentioned reader sort of experiencing a tickling or prickling sensation on the back of the neck). I haven't really delved into it, I think I mentioned it sort of offhandedly once last chapter, but in a later chapter I'll touch a bit more on scruffing, which essentially is what it is in the real world. Grabbing the back of the omega's neck, scruffing them, puts you in complete control of them essentially. It's basically a way to disarm or disable them and makes them highly vulnerable to alphas especially. That's sort of why when Price was going to put his hand on the back of reader's neck when she knelt for him, she had this instinctual urge to protect her neck because it's such a vulnerable place.
Kneeling essentially draws on scruffing, but it's not done in such an intense "I want to control you" type thing. It's done with a softer grip not to disarm or disable but more to relax. It is a bonding exercise, in that it takes a lot of trust (bad alphas will just scruff instead of doing proper kneeling) and it still requires a lot of vulnerability from both omega and alpha. It basically lulls the omega into a relaxed state and allows the body to de-stress and almost heal in a way by using those pressure points on the neck. The omega slips into a sort of meditative state and there is a bit of like a sub drop from it, which reader touched on in the most recent chapter for a moment. Overall it's really just both a bonding exercise but also really good for the omega for the benefits given in chapter 5 when reader's talking to Dr. Keller about kneeling.
I really hope this made sense, if not I'll try to explain further if you have any more questions...

Authorization Statement
I must state that, from now on, I will no longer authorize anyone to use my illustrations to create videos in any form, even if the creators claim it's for personal enjoyment.
Some time ago, I found that my illustrations had been used in some short videos and uploaded on platforms like TikTok. Although I was aware of this, I didn't pay much attention because I think that as long as my works are seen, I'm happy enough. Regarding authorization, I've always stated that as long as it's for non-commercial purposes, people can share my illustrations for personal enjoyment as long as they credit my account (for example, using them as profile pictures or backgrounds).
I also know that for quite a while, my illustrations have been uploaded on platforms like Pinterest, some of which properly credited my account, but others did not. Now, I need to make it clear that I have not authorized anyone to upload my illustrations to Pinterest, though I didn't take this matter seriously in the past. Recently, due to well-known reasons, many users have shifted from TikTok to Rednote. I noticed that some people continue to use my illustrations to create short videos on Rednote. In fact, I have an account on Rednote where I post my works, but the works may have been uploaded later than on my Tumblr account, and I haven't posted all of my illustrations there.
What frustrates me is that, as the unquestionable original author of these illustrations, I need to prove to Rednote that I am the original author just to have their videos taken down. I'm not trying to express confusion or anger towards the platform's laws, but rather, I want to emphasize that, as the original author, I may have to expend five times the effort to defend my rightful attribution. Moreover, it's not realistic for me to constantly monitor whether others are properly crediting my work and to address these issues without any time limit.
A saying is that once a work is created, it no longer belongs to the creator. Although the meaning of this saying primarily refers to the author's loss of the right to interpret the work's content, it is both advantageous and disadvantageous. For the author, it undoubtedly reveals that they lose a certain amount of control over their work while they are still alive. Personally, I've always felt that my work, being inspired by a deceased author, may have taken a shortcut, and as a result, I have maintained a friendly attitude toward others sharing my work. After all, this widespread dissemination was partly due to the popularity of the deceased author's work, which helped spread my own. However, over time, I've realized that this has both its positives and negatives. I believe that while I'm still alive, I should at least have the right to ensure my work is attributed to me.
This request may seem like I'm trying to grab attention by not allowing others to spread my works, but at the moment, I truly have no other way to deal with this situation. More importantly, through the process of drawing, I've gradually come to understand that if I, as the original author, don't take my work seriously, don't protect it, and don't defend my rights, then no one else is obligated to do it for me. Of course, I'm still grateful for everyone's love for my work and for the original novel, and I'll continue to put in more effort when I feel inspired.
I’d like to make a final statement: You are free to save my images for personal enjoyment. However, reposting my illustrations requires my direct consent and proper attribution. Otherwise, no reposting is allowed. I also do not authorize anyone to use my illustrations to create videos.

On a more positive note, I realized my life might actually be approaching stable finally.
My entire adult life has been turmoil and chaos. Every time I felt like I was finally getting onto firm ground, things would shift under me.
Like back in 2017 when I was finally sticking with school and getting good grades. I was planning to get my surgeries done. I'd done the consults, I had them both on the books. Everything was going great. But then my mom wouldn't commit to being able to drive me to and from the hospital, even just a week before my hysterectomy was supposed to happen. I was so close, I'd already picked up my post-op meds. She insisted it was my choice to cancel it. Then literally the day after it was supposed to have happened, I came home from staying with a friend to find she'd packed up and moved out. I couldn't afford the apartment on my financial aid, so I had to drop out of school and be homeless for a few months (crashing with friends homeless, not living on the street homeless).
As awful as that time was, it got me to where I am right now.
With rare exception, I struggled to stick with a full time job. I was able to do freelance for years, despite it barely paying the bills. But stick me in an office and I'd quit in under a year. Following that horrible time I had 2 jobs in a single year. At one of those jobs, I made friends with someone who later referred me to the job I have currently. A job I'd taken in 2019, and stuck with it for almost a year when Covid hit and they let me go. A job I returned to last May and have now been at for a full year this go-round.
I was able to buy a car. I'm slowly paying off my debts. I'm not frantically trying to fill the void inside me every night when I get home. I'm satisfied enough in my work that I can comfortably just kill time and pay video games. Or draw. Or do whatever I want.
I've figured out my health problems, physical and mental. My anxiety is medicated. In a few days I'll be getting a proper ADHD evaluation. I have things to fall back on if anything happens to my job. I got my first raise, ever. It just feels unreal after thinking it was impossible to get here, and it's only just starting.

Hello helloo!! last post i said i was gonna talk about hcs for my Zigotons and all,, so here im bringing one!
Raretons = Rare Zigotons!
When i played the first game i was reallyy interested about the Zigoton empire and their equipment related to insects and bugs..Thinking how Patapons, mostly Rare ones are animals! Why cant the Zigotons have their own? We have Insect inspired Generals, a Queen with insects traits..There must be Rare Zigotons!!
My first idea was that only generals (except Gong,, i'll explain later..hehe) and the queen were gonna be the only raretons,, but tooooo boringggg, lets make a whole hierachy on Rare Zigotons! To the common and to the Royalty!
Unlike Rarepons that can be make and created through materials, Raretons have to be born with these traits! And they have been qualified by the hierachy of the empire
I tried my best to take inspiration from material on the game, real insects, bugs and even scrapped content! Like the Zigotons that werent used! ->
Common
Forbicina: Earwig
Tininae: Spiderbeetle
Rare - Elite
Pavone: Peacock Spider
Foglia: Leaf Bug
Larve: Larvae
Pandinus: Emperor Scorpion -> Soulless Zigotons
Generals
Vedovanera: Black Widow -> Spiderton
Leiurus: Deathstalker Scorpion -> Scorpiton
Lucanidae: Stag Beetle -> Beetleton
Nobility
Mantide: Prayer Mantis -> Unused Zigoton "Mantiton"
Falso: False Scorpion -> Unused Zigoton "???"
Rino: Rhinocero Beetle -> Unused Zigoton "Staggton"
Corydali: Dobsonfly -> Unused Zigoton "???"
Royalty
Meganeura: Meganeura
Cinabro: Cinnabar Moth -> Queen Kharma
Ala: Birdwing Butterfly
The reason why they ""lack"" of insect traits, its because their traits are more reflected in their respective armors!!
Probably later will do proper drawing of them, but for now just the references!! :3
Next Topic about my hcs will be for the Zigotons Generals

Monkies Deserve Better References pt 1
This is a bit of a long one so to save people who follow me for my other series I'm going to put it behind a 'read more' line. Both for that reason and because I couldn't be bothered drawing clothes so the references are naked (not like anything graphic though, they're basically shaped like barbies, don't worry)!
The reference I used I found on pinterest but was made by Toresoza on Twitter for those who want a better high quality version with all the hand shapes will have to find it on Twitter, but for now have this low quality Pinterest one to start out.
Now! Onto the proper references! Keep in mind this is how the characters look from anything before Macaque's Not Alright! There might be some missing scars that the characters should have in canon that they don't have here (namely MK because it was 4 am and I forgot) so they might change slightly but for now here we go!
Let's start with Wukong! First with his glamours up and then with them down! (Peach included because I couldn't get the little shit's hand to work with me so I fed him).
The scar on his brow and cheek would very likely be canon as well as the one on his upper left arm and right elbow which would have all happened during the fight with Nezha.
Included on his face are also the headband scars, burns around his eyes which are red after the Demon Hospital fiasco. Also from the demon hospital fiasco are most of the dark patches on his body (realizing now I missed another burn spot on his inner right forearm that's older than the rest but that's fine). When he was tossed in the forget his fur was magically burned whever it was touching the table which is why he has lines on his tail, wrists and ankles (noticed another mistake on his tail but AGAIN IT WAS LATE LET ME LIVE /lh /j). I'll fix it later but I'm too tired to bother now.
The injuries on his chest and stomach are a mix of the Demon Hospital stuff and MK's Not Alright injuries while the white on his back, shoulders, sides and hips are all from LBD :3
Other details about MDB/MAA Wukong as well as all of the monkeys is that his fur and hair are slightly different shades that are barley noticeable (I'm even questioning if I did it for him but I'm going to hope I did x'D). Wukong is also covered in freckles which he doesn't bother glamouring due to how much energy it would take.
Wukong also shares a bit of a 'dad bod' with Canon Wukong (I'm still learning how to draw weight, so ignore that he looks pregnant he's just supposed to be a little squishy). He is also the tallest of the three monkeys I have done, standing at a super tall /s 5'6" (167 cm/66 in (according to Google)).
-----
Next is Macaque who until I actually did this I thought had the most scars. Nope. His scars are the biggest but he probably has the least amount of scars x'D
Macaque's canon injuries on his chest and eye are visible when he's not glamoured but not nearly as obvious as his newer scars.
On his back is a whip scar that he got from Havoc and Confusion - the timeline on this is messed up and will be edited sooner or later -but it happened when he was quite young and doesn't bother him nearly as much as some of the other scars.
The scar on his right thigh, palms of his hand, horizontally across his chest and through his stomach all came from the Seven-Star Sword.
The three scars across his chest are from Wukong's Not Alright when he was cut down by the giant cat monster. This is also when the edges of his fur started to grow in white when they grew back (he should have a couple of other white patches on his body from smaller injuries but they don't have set spots other than *maybe* in his inner elbows, but again, it's not set).
Then, the final and newest scars are on his hips which he gained during the most recent run in with Confusion.
The white on his fur and in his hair is his 'natural' color from before he was killed the first time (not when Wukong killed him) while the blue is from LBD. The blue will likely never turn fully white but might lighten over time to be a more gray color than blue, but that will take a long time and unless Macis willing to shave himself completely most of his fur will always remain black
Other details about Macaque are his six ears in his unglamoured form which are red, blue and teal based on the colors from the 2009 Monkey King series which also inspired a lot of Macaque's background and life story.
Macaque is the smallest of the three monkeys and stands at 5'3" (160 cm /63.6 In).
--------
Finally, there's MK and oh boy. I didn't realize how much of a break this kid needed after all of this but considering how his scars look I'm about to send him on vacation. A paid vacation with therapy included because holy shit.
After I finished making MK I realized I forgot to look for any canon scars that he would have, but considering most of them would be covered by fur I'm also not in a rush to go through and look through them.
His oldest scar is on his forehead mostly hidden by his hair which is the scar mentioned in the third chapter in the series. From there the scars get bigger and more dramatic the longer it goes on, so let's go through the list.
The scars on his right shoulder is from the snakes that infest the Earth Turtle! Also from his adventure on the Earth Turtle are his top surgery scars which he doesn't glamour (he spends too much time/energy glamouring everything else and he's proud of them, so why bother).
He has a matching wound to Macaque on his lower left stomach (which might be in the wrong spot but again i'm tired) came from Monkies Aren't Alright when Chang Liu stabs him with an immortal killing weapon to have access to what 'makes him tick'.
Then in MK's Not Alright he got attacked by another non-venomous snake that bit his left shin and left deep scarring there as well but oddly enough that was the only scar he gained from that one.
In Wukong's Not Alright he gained two scars, the one through his right shin and the wound to his left shoulder blade.
The rest of the scars - the one on his face, most of the ones on his cheek, chest, back, legs, and tail all came from Macaque's not alright with some other minor scars that I forgot about x'D. They are a mixture of whip wounds, slash wounds and burns all came from Havoc, Ginger and Confusion trying to control him.
Other details include slight discoloration on his fingers from the same torture he went through to get the majority of his scars. Part of his bangs are discolored to be white and he's covered in countless white freckles giving him a very 'starry' appearance to him. (which in a way makes his fur look like space with the scars being shooting stars and planets).
MK is the 'middle' monkey and stands at 5'5" (165cm/65in , only an inch shorter than Wukong.
-----
That's all that I have done right now but I'm hoping to make Loi, Red, Mei, and Nezha at some point as well as Tu, Yuanhou, Mihou, Changpu, Pengu and a super secret fifth option too ;3
That being said, if there are any characters you want me to try to make a reference for, just let me know. These were just some of the ones most requested by my discord and friends so I thought I'd do them first. Once I have the others done though, I'll post them.
#lego monkie kid#lego monkie kid fanfic#monkies arent alright#monkies deserve better#LMKAU#my art#character reference#I did my best#I'm proud of them even with their mistakes and missing details#seriously get these monkeys some therapy#or at least a warm drink and a blanket

okayyyyy d4dj pride hcs for pride month let's goooooooo!!!!! (gonna be going by unit order lol)
hapiara:
honestly been getting into rin.rei and muni.maho more often so my poly hc of them is sort of going away, but I still love them poly <3 (I just dont draw them together as much but i still love them)
maho my she/they lesbian... everyone are lesbians as well but yeaaa !! <3
peaky:
kyoko's bi (w a preference for women) yibbpppeeeee!! shinobu's a transgirl to me <333 but wears pretty masc clothes, bc, she wants to be kyoko's handsome girlfriend.!!(idk if I'm making sense lol) sometimes I like enjoy t4t kyoshino, but I think w how much I love it, might as well become a proper headcanon for me.
yuka is a lesbian. esora's a lesbian too. Yuka also possibly a futch yeah. maybe a biiiit more masc tho. esora's fem yea
photon:
saki and ibuki are aro and ace respectively. ibuki might be leaning on aroace tho. saki mayyybe demisexual? not sure, but I'm very sure she's aro. OH SAKI ALSO USES SPACE-THEMED NEOPRONOUNS!!
noa's just sapphic, she loves anything fem. maybe t4t w towa bc.... wahghghghghghghg (towa's just a lesbian)
m4:
bi4bi4bi4bi m4 (that's a lot of 4s lol) ummmmmmm yayyyyy
rondo:
honestly fuck it: aoi genderfluid. she/they/he. yeah. he/they nagisa, yeah. hiiro and tsubaki are trans too, yeah, rondo is full of trans people. aoi just says she's queer to make explaining everything easier. nagisa still refers to himself as a lesbian bc that's the label he's most comfortable with. hiiro is pan and tsubaki's just queer. yay. (I don't rlly know what label to give her so she's going unlabeled or queer for now. yay)
ri4:
haruna the biggest lesbian ever. Miyu's probably just gonna say sapphic or queer (not too sure, but she knows she loves haruna yayyyyy) kurumi and miiko....... they're queer platonic and don't rlly care abt love??? like, they're just. meh. I wouldn't say they're ace/aro tho.
unichord:
sapphic hayakoko yayayayayayyayayay michiru.... ally!!! (JOKE! she's probs questioning) lumina feels..... hmmm. not sure but yeah :thumbs-up:
abyssmare:
this is a slight fuck u to assholes on d4twt so weronika is bi. soap is demiromantic asexual. neo........ not sure. lol. Elsie is a lesbian but she doesn't want to believe it
CoA:
at this point they're too busy w work and music to give a shit abt gender and sexuality but if u asked mana might just say pan, airi never thought abt it but when she hears hapiara or the others explain stuff she's like "OOOOHHHH MAYBE I FIT ONE OF THOSE.. huh" toka just shrugs and asks where's my water before saying ten minutes later "oh I might be a lesbian. idk." and shano is just gonna say she's busy and not giving an answer. (she's always kinda knew she was queer in some way but never thought abt it bc of schedule)
LMO:
YEAH YOU THOUGHT I WOULDNT INCLUDE THEM?? THEYRE MY TOKEN OLD MEN YAOI !!!!
ryujin is a gay man. he knows this bc of the amount of sapphics that enter his cafe. haruki would probs go "yeah maybe" and dennojo and sho will just glare at you and go "no." but you know they're liars bc when he sat next to their wives in the middle of the night, with their heads in their hands, they're nothing more than their husbands and when they thinks abt each other all of those years ago, they're standing face to face with "I told you so"-- AHEM. yeah. sho's a homophobic homosexual tho, dennojo supports his trans granddaughter and he/they grandson/grandchild. yeah.
bonus: (my inuyose sibling ocs and maika)
hifuno is a demiromantic asexual and yanoshiro is a she/they queer. yay. yaro doesn't know if she's interested in women or men bc she was so focused on her education she didn't explore that. lol.
maika is questioning if she likes girls and cis!! (but I will say I was tempted to make her trans...... but WAHH I feel too self-indulgent w that) shinobu was her gay awakening. i'll talk abt maika lore another day anyway that's it

i wanna draw my persona but i hate my art style so much that i can’t even look at my art without tearing the page out of my sketchbook. i hate my art. i really wanna draw but i hate my art.
:( dude i absolutely get the feeling
whenever i need more confidence in my art, i tend to actually use references way more — using your tools and stuff u have can be way helpful, especially when you feel bad about your style
try experimenting with new styles! sometimes it's always okay to try and change it and adapt it, I've done it plenty myself!
LIKE for example, these drawings are only about a year apart.
when making the new design i worked with a new pen and i used WAY more references for clothing than i did in the old one. the old one was pure freehanding, and you can definitely tell by how awkward details look like the pants, and the jacket and even the necklaces.
old design looks messy and thrown together, new one looks proper and up kempt.
really all you have to do is observe your art and kinda figure out WHY you're hating it so much. is it the way you're sketching, is it maybe how you're posing your characters, could even just be not liking the way you make details?
don't hate your art just because it doesn't look right, because drawing should be a fun experience every time! :(
I've recently challenged myself to not scrap most of my drawings because in a moment of making it I'll really hate it, but then I'll come back to it weeks later and be sad i never finished it because i scratched it out or tore it up. sometimes i actually have really good ideas in my scrapped art and I've learned to let them be!
art is a hobby that's constantly changing with you as you learn, don't be discouraged by your frustrations!
#take your time and take steps back#really just evaluate your art and figure out why you're not liking it#sometimes it can even be a mental think like creative block or stress from overthinking#i promise you can do it!#all you have to do is let yourself#art talk#hugs for moot

Character Appreciation (in time for Mermay): Flameshe
I'm trying to draw this crowd favorite snarky teenage mermaid, but wow I'm struggling with this one - also my hand hurts so uhhh I'll procrastinate by delving into her lore and studying her artwork instead!
This is gonna be a long post, but if one only wanted to see all the artworks of Flameshe, I'll put them up here and talk about the lore stuff below the cut.
Here's the official artwork by Shinichi Kameoka from the HD version of the game:

And here's the illustrations by Nao Ikeda in the art book:

Ok, last warning, very long post ahead, below the cut!
Beginning with the concept art from the art book - like majority of LOM's NPCs, Flameshe was designed by Nao Ikeda. As usual, I'll be typing in the illustrator notes, since the text in the photos always are out of focus for some reason...

There's quite a lot of notes to get through here, most of which relates to the cut quest line involving Flameshe.
Her primary character concept appears to be "Mermaid Princess with Burning Scales," which is elaborated on in the text to the right:
Her upper body resembles an angelfish, symbolizing her pure heart, like that of an angel. However, her creator gave her a lower body with "cursed, scorching scales." While she's underwater, the water acts as a membrane, sealing her flaming scales, but it turns to vapor once she is exposed to air. Her tail then ignites, causing her entire body to burn, transforming her into the "enchantress of purgatory." Land where introduced ->Birdcage Lighthouse
The lower left text repeats some of these info for emphasis:
Her burning scales are covered in a membrane, and when that membrane disappears, she becomes a demon that burns everything. She has an angelfish motif, and as the name implies, she's an angel - but she's also a mermaid princess who was given the lower body of a demon. (Ikeda)
The bit about Flameshe's scales having the ability to burst into flames is cut out from Legend of Mana's story proper - there are bits and pieces remaining in LOM that could refer to Flameshe's innate nature as a destructive fire, with Drowned Dreams implying that the soldiers were searching for Flameshe in the quest for the ultimate firearm in Polpota.

However, this isn't definite, and in A Siren's Song, Monique seems to say that Flameshe simply dries out if she exposes herself too much to the sun. The player takes advantage of the fact Flameshe has to warp away to be able to sneak inside the Birdcage Lighthouse.

Back to the concept, Flameshe and Elle are closely tied together and I guess these two characters were always written to share a story, and it carries over somewhat in LOM, since Flameshe talks about Elle more than she does about Monique. As noted above, Flameshe was even planned to be introduced at Birdcage Lighthouse.
Monique doesn't have an entry in the concept art, so I'm guessing she actually wasn't designed by either Shinichi Kameoka or Nao Ikeda (my evidence for the latter is Monique is not present in the anniverary art Nao Ikeda made for the series, which features everyone she designed). Monique also seems to be a character that was made later on in the game cycle - and if I have to guess, Monique being added to cast changed the story, and in a way she seems to have saved both Elle and Flameshe.
I say this since the event quest featuring Elle and Flameshe for Echoes of Mana seems to have been a restored version of their original questline, and it plays out like a fairytale with bittersweet ending. I think that bittersweet ending was averted in LOM because Monique was there to be a voice of reason for these two (and also because Shiloh/Serafina helped out).
I didn't actually play this EoM, however, so I think it's best to look elsewhere to find more information about that story, but in any case, it's interesting to think about how the original lore of the character is displaced because of writing other stories. There does seem to be a nod to the original questline in Nao Ikeda's anniversary art, though:

The fact that Thesenis is reaching out to Flameshe seems to be a reference to the fact Thesenis was also involved in that story. This anniversary art came out before Echoes of Mana though, so I'm not sure.
Now, to talk about Flameshe's actual design:

Nao Ikeda included some chibi versions of the characters, with her saying she does it to figure out character silhouettes, and this chibi version is labeled "A devoted angel with tropical colors. Angelfish + clione sea slug mermaid."
I was initially confused about the whole description of Flameshe having an angelfish motif because she doesn't like a freshwater angelfish - but then I realized there are marine angelfish, which come in bright colors like Flameshe's, and marine angelfish also sometimes have long, trailing ends to their dorsal fins, which may have been the inspiration for Flameshe's head fins and back/shoulder fins.
I think it also is a pun of some sort - Flameshe's back/shoulder fins look like angel wings! Angelfish character = angel wings, but fins.
The chibi version also mentions clione sea slugs as an inspiration - which are also sometimes called sea angels, so it's double the angel reference for Flameshe. Clione sea slugs have bright, orange centers with their bodies being transparent, and it's reflected in Flameshe's tail design which has an outer membrane of water and is brightly red within - the ruffly shape of her tail fins also evoke the clione sea slug.
Man, I will never be not impressed by Nao Ikeda's design game, she's so good at reimagining natural sights into characters.
Flameshe also has an interesting color palette, being predominantly bright red-orange as a symbol of her nature as a fire, and then with green and purple touches as contrasts and complements.
If one does compare the concept to the official art, there are a few changes:

The bulk of the design was kept the same, Shinichi Kameoka is actually very faithful to Nao Ikeda's concepts -
However, in the final artwork, only the topmost head fins were kept, her back/shoulder fins aren't as long, and the fishnet-like waist belt/ shawl was also removed. In Nao Ikeda's art, it's hard to pick out in the concept since Flameshe's arm covers her chest, but her back/shoulder fin actually extends down to cover half of her chest (it's easier to see in the chibi version - though, oddly, this asymmetrical detail swaps positions between the chibi and the concept).
In Shinichi Kameoka's version, Flameshe wears green chest pieces on both sides.
If I have to guess for why that is - I love asymmetrical designs and layered details, don't get me wrong, but Flameshe's design is very crowded, and removing some elements doesn't change the overall shape of her already distinct silhouette. The additional head fins are cute, as well as the fishnet accessory, but it does add more visual noise without contributing to the character's storytelling, so for the sake of simplicity I think it was a good call to cut down some design flairs.
I'm just a hobbyist digital artist and art enthusiast though, so definitely don't think I'm an authority on anything ahaha, feel free to diasgree with me.
Seeing the full concept and then looking at the official art did make me realize Flameshe still wears a water membrane over her tail, but it's not as clear as in the concept. I always wondered why her upper tail section had these smoke-like patterns, but now I know about Flameshe's water membrane and fiery scales, and it's a good way to combine the two concepts.
I am sorta struggling drawing Flameshe and picking whether to go with the Kameoka version or maybe use some of Nao Ikeda's design choices knowing all these now whoops.
I should post Elle's concepts soon, too, but there's also a lot of notes there and it took me an hour to make this post already ahaha.
#legend of mana#flameshe#legend of mana flameshe#if anyone is drawing flameshe for mermay I hope these can be helpful!

Satan tempted him with the very things that make for a successful person: power, prestige, and security, and certainly, no cross. Peter rebuked him over all his cross talk. And certainly had Jesus been more agreeable, he could have found a seat at the table of his enemies, the Pharisees. Yet, the ultimate symbol of failure lay ahead of him for all to see. I suppose we can say that such is what happens when one does not seek success, but instead faithfulness to the ways of God – failure.

honeybee year two recap
it's 4/20. it's easter. it's a friend's birthday. and on top of all that today also marks two years since grimm and yarrow appeared damn near fully formed in my brain, took up residence, and still have not left. and i feel like rambling about what all i've been compelled to do
(year one recap post here btw)
but also before you go under the cut i made a whole entire animatic so look at that too tee hee :3c
okay also before i get into little details and stats and stuff i just wanna give a HUGE thank you to everyone who follows this blog and is cheering me and this story on it genuinely means so much to me that people like what i'm doing and are in some way invested in it! what the hell!! it's such a treat to be able to talk about ocs with friends and all that :,,,>
art
well. i drew them a lot. serena for reference bc she's my oldest oc. also a year ago grimm and yarrow were at 61 and 51 images respectively. art fight stuff and gifts count towards this total so it's not all my own stuff but. it's fucking dire
as for some of my favorites i liked how these in particular turned out hehe
also those short animations but those are gonna copypaste weird
they got proper ref sheets!
i'm currently on my. fifth sketch/artwork file (blank one is the current one i'm just weird abt how i save things)
mailed out prints of them!!!! and internationally!!!! my silly little cowboys are out and about in the world what the hell..........
getting more comfortable drawing Adult stuff of them but i have a lot of other ideas competing for my focus at any given time so it's not a priority dghkldfh
comics! not as fruitful as last year but i've done....eight! whole comic pages of them! tbh i have more in the works either thumbnailed or half-sketched but the animatic took over my last little while so. not as many comics
sorry i'm gonna mention that fucking animatic again bc i have never done anything like that before. dunno if/when i'll do another but ! i made one !!
story/writing
i also made a 50-slide powerpoint about what the fuck is going on in honeybee. just like in general. feel free to look at it btw
also i gave that presentation to friends a total of. three times. they willingly opened that can of worms though idk
i got a physical notebook to tease out plot shit in and that's about....halfway full already? like at least fifty handwritten full pages of thoughts in that fucker. this is where i do most of my hooting and hollering about ideas
the first draft is currently up to 83k words !! which means i wrote nearly ~50k words this past year !
started sharing my writing for occasional wip wednesdays !! i'm still pretty picky about what i share and also just like. very aware i'm still a pretty amateur writer hdgkldf
that being said, writing feels a lot easier now than when i started !!
made some posts sharing details about things! but honestly i still struggle with talking about oc stuff unprompted even when This Is My Blog Where I Do That
some story developments i figured out this past year or so: grimm backstory stuff, yarrow kills at least two people before p3, the beginning of all three parts have been reworked or are in the process of it, p3 has more meat and direction (still fizzles out to disjointed scenes at another point, but that's a matter of writing things out), yarrow actually realizes grimm's humod when they first meet but grimm thinks it's hiding it, rappock's mining union is going to play a larger role in p1/2, grimm's run out of town in p1 bc of money, not the killing, grimm's p1 client is who hunts it down at the end of p2, lucy comes into play later in p3 than i first imagined
other stuff
i've been getting more tags where ppl recognize grimm n yarrow and i'm like?? bewildered by that? people know my fellas?
goals/plans
as it is right now, honeybee is a passion project. i mostly work on it in my free time outside of my work hours and that's probably how it's going to be for the forseeable future
with how large of an undertaking this story is, my sssort of plan is to: write out the first draft (i am here) which is organized chronologically, write the second draft in the actual story order, have people beta read that draft, edit the story accordingly, then begin the process of actually making the final story with illustrations and all. this will take me several years even without getting sidetracked
that being said i would like to get the first draft to 100k words by the end of the year, which seems pretty plausible!! reachign for the stars goal is finish the first draft within the next year but i'm not holding myself to that one
also wanna do more comic stuff this next year. like i said i have a few other ideas but also there's some illustration stuff cooking away too
my plan honestly is just to keep consistently working on things as they interest me. i want to see this story realized how i envision it, but i truly do not know what the next year has in store for me so! i continue to ball
#there're probably like ten things i'm forgetting here but i gotta leave in a min so#behind the scenes#honeybee
