Today’s Consumption:
Food/Drink: Coffee with creamer, a granola bar, strawberries, cereal, protein shake, penne noodles with red sauce, water, and orange juice
Media/Technology/Entertainment: An episode of Grey’s Anatomy, an episode of How To Get Away With Murder, InDesign, Illustrator, lots of Spotify music
So today was one of those days for me where all I want to do is sing to music. I probably spent way too many hours doing this than I should have, but I can’t help it. I will always dream of being a singer, whether my voice sucks or not. When I should have been spending time on homework, I was singing to songs on repeat and watching YouTube videos of my favorite bands.
I’m pretty excited for tomorrow because it’s supposed to be 60 degrees outside and sunny! I’m so ready for warm weather, partially because I don’t have nearly as many winter clothes as I do summer/spring/fall clothes and I’m tired of wearing boots!!! I don’t have anything planned for tomorrow but will likely take my dog on a walk because it’s going to be so nice.
After basically having coffee for almost 30 days straight, I’m starting to wonder if I could ever really give up coffee? I don’t drink it for its caffeine, but rather it just bloody tastes good! And having something warm in the morning is nice versus a cold glass of orange juice or something. I doubt I ever could, nor would I ever really want to... I guess only the future will tell!
Peace out forever! (because this was my last blog post)

Today is my second to last day of blogging, and sorry to say but I don’t have anything new and exciting to share with you...
I consumed a lot time doing working for my internship, which wasn’t a bad thing. I love designing for my internship and I really hope it’s a job that I can hang onto for a while. I usually spend 2 hours every other week in the office and some more time working on things outside the office, but today I was there for 5 hours! Time went by fast and we got a lot of work done which means I don’t have to spend as much of my own time working on things.
As I have done internships and began to design things for people other than professors, I’ve noticed that training your eye to know font sizes is hard. There have been many many times where my boss will ask me to make something bigger or smaller and when I change the design its like “wow, how did I not see that or think of that?” Sometimes that’s not the case, but it truly is difficult sometimes. I guess it’s just a learn-as-you-go type of deal, but I wish I was just good at it so my boss could just look at a design and say “Yes, perfect!”
I guess I can update you on my sleeping lately because it’s been awhile. I’ve been really good about using my diffuser every night and taking my melatonin vitamin, and I have to say that I have been sleeping great! Who knows if this is truly a result of my diffuser and vitamin but there is definitely a correlation. There may be nights where I wake up once, other than that I have been sleeping great, even on nights where I get 5-6 hours of sleep. Not to say that I’m not tired the next morning after those nights, but they’re a good few hours of sleep.

January 13 & 14
So I decided to combine yesterday with today because if I’m being honest, I feel like I haven’t had much time to consume anything other than school, sleep, homework while at home, and doing work for my internship.
On the 13th, I was at a photoshoot all morning until 1:30pm for my internship. This was amazing because I have always day dreamed about being in a position that unites design with fashion, and my internship does just that! I’ve always wondered what a photoshoot would be like, and I’m sure it’s different for every company, but it ended up being closely to what I had imagined it to be. It was just at janky and you’d imagine- the photographer awkwardly standing on a ladder in order to get the shot framed right, the models having to pose on the count of 3, and the makeup artist doing touch ups in-between shots. I loved it all!
A couple of times my boss would call me over and ask me questions about an image because some of the shots will be used in lookbooks and other marketing materials that I create and it was kind of nerve wracking. Usually I’m the one asking people for opinions, and not necessarily giving my own. Plus I don’t have much experience with this type of work just yet, but thankfully another graphic designer was there who was able to step in and help me out.
Today is Valentines Day and I’ve been consuming lots of goodies that my mom gave me for a gift including Sour Patch Kids (my favorite) and sour sweetheart candies that are surprisingly good. While eating my sour patch kids though and being in the mindset of redesign packaging for our splurchase, I will say that I wish my sour patch kids were resealable. As much as I love them, I can’t finish a whole bag of them in one sitting. I’m still consuming my typical coffee with creamer and have felt like I need extra these past couple days to get me through all the work. It’s been a stressful week and it’s only Tuesday... help.

Today was another day filled with homework. I was a bit more productive today but I still spent majority of the day doing homework. The sun was shining which was nice and made me miss summer. I can’t wait for summer to roll around and not having to spend all day doing homework.
In other news, the Grammy’s are on tonight and you can bet I’ll be watching! I know I’ve written about music before, but man I just LOVE music. I’m actually watching them right now and one of my favorite artists was nominated for Best New Artist and I literally got teary eyed when they announced her nomination. Although she didn’t win, I was still super excited that she was nominated.
Speaking of award shows, I typically watch a lot of the awards shows during award show season (yes that is a thing), and recently decided that I want to be a seat filler at next years Grammy’s. Like how amazing would that be!? I’m super excited, and I’ll probably try to be a seat filler at other shows, but the spontaneity of being accepted to fill seats at an award show sounds so freaking cool. I can’t wait.

Today I consumed a lot of homework. Majority of the day I was working on getting my personal business cards ready for print (a part of my Text and Image class), and I was also working on finishing my $2 splurchase paper. I noticed how somedays I can whip through my homework and get a lot done, and other days I spend hours and hours working on one project for one class. I know that’s the same for other people too, but man is it frustrating when you wake up determined to get a lot of things done and then don’t. Here’s to hoping tomorrow is better, more productive day!
The only other things I did today was go to the gym, in which I consumed, or maybe didn’t consume, a lot of sweat. Somedays the gym is a sauna and others its fine, but today was a sauna day. It’s crazy to think about how much temperature affects how well you can workout. I was on the treadmill and felt like I had to continuously telling myself to keep going because the heat makes you tired so much faster. Next time I get asked to review my gym I’ll be adding “Treadmills with fans” to my notes.
Have you ever watched those commercials that promote a competition with the chance to win a “cool” prize? Well I just saw an Oreo commercial that was promoting some competition where you have to post a photo to enter, but what crossed my mind was “do people actually win those competitions?” I just remember being a kid and getting so wound up in wanting to win this or that, like the text in keyword on radio stations to win concert tickets. And I can’t help but wonder if people actually win those things. Like I’m sure they do, but still.

Today was another one of those days where I discovered a new song that I listened to on repeat for the entire day. I just love the days when this happens, and it was so nice out today that you feel transported into a music video or something. Listening to a new jam with the windows rolled down and sunglasses on, tell me that you don’t feel this way too?
I also saw another movie today, yes I went to Fifty Shades Darker and it was so f***ing good!!!! In my next life I’m going to be an actress. I’ve always wanted to be an actress but my mom never really took me seriously so here I am, getting a graphic design degree instead of a theatre degree. Anyways, I just love seeing movies.
Today was one of the first days I got to see some of my designs actually displayed from my internship. It’s cool to see your designs on a website or in print and be like “Yup, that was me!” It’s a nice feeling.

Today I wore an outfit that people don’t typically see me wearing. And it made me wonder if people’s perception of you changes when you wear something out of your norm, whether those people know you or not. Clothing choices are something we all consume in, and today I noticed more than usual how the clothing choices we make can make us take on a different persona. A leather jacket can make us feel badass, gothic, among others, and a floral blouse can make us feel girly, mature, and responsible. I’m curious if other people feel these emotions too, like you’re taking on a different role with a simple outfit choice.
Relating back to my experience with the Blue Apron commercial, today I was researching for a project and read something interesting. I’m studying animal testing/animal abuse in the product industry and read that even thought a bottle or product package may say it was not tested on animals, doesn’t mean that they actually don’t test on animals. WHAT LIES! I have always fallen for those words and to find out that they may not be true in all cases is so infuriating. I didn’t read too deep into the subject because I didn’t have the time, but basically companies comply to the laws of testing on animals and the treatment of animals, but when they get their products made in China, for instance, the animal testing laws are changed because testing is allowed in China. I can do anything but sit here and sake my head. In any case, I guess I’ll be changing some of the products I buy.

Today I would like to tell you a story. It’s nothing too exciting but I was pretty excited.
A week ago I bought a leather jacket online at Forever 21. It was $35 and I had been looking for a new jacket for a while, because I outgrew my last one and gave it to a friend. When it arrived I knew it was too big but was worried about trying to find another one (because I’m extremely picky) so I was trying to convince myself to keep it. This morning I decided to try it on again and decid if I should return it or just keep it. I looked online again for other styles but was too nervous to order another one. I decided I needed to return it because I knew I wasn’t in love with it and it would be more beneficial if I just got my $35 back. Instead of mailing it back I decided to stop at the Roseville store and return it in person, and this way I could browse their jackets and see if there was anything of interest.
When I walked into the store the first thing I did was go to the jacket section. The first couple areas I found nothing, but then there was this misplaced clothing rack. I noticed some black jackets and pulled a couple off the rack to try on. They were half off and I was giddy.
While walking to the dressing room I noticed a tank top and a t-shirt that caught my eye, and made the quick decision to try them on. I was beginning to feel a splurchase coming on... I immediately loved one of the jackets I tried on, which was a similar style to the one I ordered online but fit better. And I decided without a second thought that I was going to buy those other two shirts. HELLO SPLURCHASE!!! But I didn’t care because they were cheap enough and I was feeling good. When I got to the checkout I actually ended up being owed money because my new jacket and t-shirts added up to be less than my $35 original jacket. SCORE. Whatta day. I made two splurchases and came out on top!

Today’s Consumption:
Food/Drink: Coffee with creamer, toast, banana, granola bar, ham sandwich, homemade fudge, leftover chips and dip, orange juice, water, and a slice of pizza.
Media/Technology/Entertainment: an episode of Friends, InDesign, Illustrator, Spotify Music, 94.5 KS95 radio, an episode of Fixer Upper and The Wall
Today I consumed a couple songs that I just discovered for the first time, and I played on repeat any chance I had throughout the day. I love that the most about music, that it can completely consume you, and you it, and like the only thing you think about. I don’t mind commuting to school because I have an hour every day to jam out to music that I want to play on repeat and blast as loud as I can.
With my graphic design degree I want to either work in the fashion industry or the entertainment/music industry. I plan on applying for an internship with Big Machine Record Label in Nashville next year and hopefully get a feel for what design is like in the entertainment industry.
Today in my food science lab we made fudge from scratch. I actually am enjoying this class just because of all the food we get to make in our labs. I consumed way more fudge than I should have, but it was so good!

Today’s Consumption:
Food/Drink: coffee with creamer, cereal, caesar salad, chips and dip, and water
Media/Technology/Entertainment: InDesign, Illustrator, Grey’s Anatomy, Friends, Spotify Music
Today in class we were talking briefly about protest posters and so I decided to google “protest posters” and came across of cool and bold environmental protest posters. Sustainability, as I’ve mentioned in previous posts, is something I am interested in and so hopefully I can focus my posts on that subject a bit more.
Today while grabbing my Folgers coffee off the pantry shelf I paid more attention the design of the canister. What I really enjoy about Folgers design is the handle indents they incorporated into the canister. Such a simple addition to a design, but yet makes usability so much easier. Trying to fit my hand around their large canister would be tricky and would probably result in me dropping the can, but not with those nifty handles.

Today’s Consumption:
Food/Drink: coffee with creamer, pop tart, hot pocket, orange juice, cereal, buttered noodles, and water
Media/Technology/Entertainment: Instagram, Snapchat, a Harry Potter movie (there was a marathon on tv all weekend), a few episodes of Friends, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop
Today I consumed some fresh air and took my dog on a walk. It was almost 30 degrees outside, and the sun was out. I had been doing homework all day so it was nice to force myself to get out and walk around. I was supposed to go to the gym today too, but decided I didn’t want to so I figured taking Remi for a walk would be good.
Last night I got about 8 hours of sleep. I was working until close at my job and didn’t get home until 1am. I originally woke up around 8 am, but was so exhausted that I needed to go back to sleep. For majority of the night I slept with my diffuser on, but turned it off at some point during the night. I’m starting to think that it is actually helping me sleep- woohoo!

Today’s Consumption:
Food/Drink: coffee with creamer, cereal, spaghetti, steak, mashed potatoes, green beens, chocolate, caribou coffee (from a friend), water, and sprite
Media/Technology/Entertainment: A couple Harry Potter movies while doing homework, InDesign, Illustrator, an episode of Friends, Instagram, Snapchat
Today I saw a commercial for Blue Apron, a company that delivers farm fresh food to your home. While watching the commercial, I was immediately swept up by their voice over guy who was telling the audience about the possibilities of having farm to table food that doesn’t sit on supermarket shelves and go to waste, ultimately affecting our environment. I was thinking “wow this sounds great”, because I try to do my best when it comes to being sustainable and helping the earth. Then I realized, “oh my gosh, this is probably JUST a story their telling in order to sell their products”. It got me thinking how we can consume commercials, advertisements, or really anything, and think that it’s all true. How are we supposed to know if what a company is saying is true? It also makes me think of political campaigns and how candidates say “I’ll do this and I’ll change that”, but how are we supposed to believe them? Just a thought...
Last night I consumed a lot of sleep. I went to bed likely around 11pm and didn’t wake up until 10am. Almost 12 hours of sleep!!! I mean it whenever I tell people I am the type of person who usually needs 9-10 hours of sleep. I love sleep so much, and not being able to get 9-10 hours of sleep during the week really takes a toll on me. And it kind of sucks on the weekends sometimes when I need to catch up on sleep and don’t wake up until 10am because then I feel like my day is short, and I still need to get all my homework done.
Speaking of homework, I feel like I have an advocate for my hatred of the idea of homework. My brother see’s me everyday spending hours upon hours doing homework and he just doesn’t understand how there’s always so much to do. Granted, I am an A student so that’s why I spend hours and hours on homework, but honestly it feels like Universities and professors don’t understand how much time actually has to go into homework in order to get A’s. The amount of homework has likely changed so much since my parents have been in school, and it just seems excessive. Maybe I’m the only one who feels this way, but I truly cannot wait for graduation day. PEACE OUT HOMEWORK!!!!!

Today’s consumption:
Food/Drink: coffee with creamer, french toast, spaghetti, a couple Dove chocolates, water, Sprite, Pasta and garlic bread.
Media/Technology/Entertainment: A new episode of Grey’s Anatomy, InDesign working on an email campaign for my internship, tiny bit of Photoshop, read the first chapter of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Today I went grocery shopping with my mom. She leaves for Punta Cana tomorrow morning for a week and wanted my brother and I to have enough food for the week. I usually go grocery shopping with my mom every Friday, and it’s always amazing at how much money we spend on food. When I lived on my own in an apartment for a semester I would make $30 in grocery’s last me 2 weeks. When I go with my mom, it’s a miracle if we don’t spend $100 + every week. Today however, we hardly bought anything and probably didn’t hit $100, but we passed a woman in the store whose cart was so full she was going to need a second cart if she added anything more. It made me think about much we, as humans, consume food and what it would be like to only live off the bare necessities. No fancy cereals, no candy, no chips. It would be interesting to know how much Americans spend on groceries every week.
Today was the first day in a couple months where I have been able to sit down and read a book. I love Harry Potter but had never read the series or seen all the movies. A couple years ago I decided I was going to buy the series’ books and movies, and read each book then watch each movie. I’m on the last book of the series, and am so excited to see the last two movies. Today I read the first chapter of the Deathly Hallows, and I hope I can find more time to continue reading. I’m also one of those persons who loves paper, and we had a discussion about this in one of my other classes. Do we think paper will die? I say no. There are so many people who love paper that I don’t think it will ever completely die. No Kindle for me, I’ll keep my paper back books.
