I don’t think people grasp just how gut-wrenchingly terrifying diabetes is. Especially the way some people have responded to me telling them.

Yes it can kill you. But that’s not the worst outcome.

The nerve damage can cause your body to become so numb you can’t feel the world around you. To the point you can’t walk. But you will still feel severe pain from nothing because the nerves are still screaming. Then you could go blind. So you can neither see nor feel the world around you while your body just makes its own pain.

The nerve damage started for me long ago. It’s already unbearable and it will likely get worse.

I’m not looking for sympathy but it’s a metric fuck ton to cope with. And people who act like it’s no big deal will be immediately punched in the teeth.
