A little WIP for the table?

The A03 curse is... no joke. What was intended to be published as a Christmas fic has now been pushed to be *checks calendar* a Valentine's Day fic. But, I thought I'd share a little bit of what I've been working on, as I bounce from one WIP to the next. Hang tight y'all. My writer's block seems to be finally fizzling out.

To Wanton with the Dawn

“Want to know a secret?”

“Nuala, no one wants to hear who was in your bed last night.”

In front of the hearth, the two wraiths skillfully waltzed about the kitchen, their banter not once deterring them from the tasks at hand. Elain was elbows deep in suds, trying and failing, to wash the dishes. Azriel would help her leave Velaris, if only she could muster up the courage to ask. He already knew she was planning some sort of escape, but had kept quiet, for all she knew.

That day was another moment etched into her memory…

When he found her plans to return to the Mortal Lands, he sat beside her as she cried. And then, he traced one of the Illyrian runes from Truth Teller’s scabbard onto her palm. His touch was like heaven.

“I did not realize then, I had given my heart to the wrong person.” 

He had told her. She had asked him, when she was mortal and engaged to a man, if he had ever been in love. His answer made her wonder, or hope, that the wrong person was Mor.

If only she could muster up the courage to ask. 

“Jealous Cerr?”

“No thank you. I remember what happened the last time you went out with someone from the Rainbow.”

“Cauldron Cer, I checked for warts.”

“Warts, pocks, rashes- they can hide anywhere!”

“As I said, I checked,” Nuala paused before she seductively bit into a carrot, “Everywhere.”

Cerridwen threw a raspberry at her sister.

“Wisp! You’re scaring my friend, Elain!” Cerridwen bumped her hip as she handed her a dish, “If you chase her away I’ll never forgive you, sister.”

“Oh hush,” Nuala teased, “Elain’s no wallflower. I’m sure she’s met some love struck male on all those long walks she takes.”

“No,” Elain answered. 

The water was warm, but her hand still felt like fire.

Our secret. 

Like music, his voice, rich and deep, like a cello singing the final waltz of the evening. 

“Nu, you’ll never believe who I saw at the opera last night.”

“Oh Cerr, tell!”

“The Shadowsinger.”

She forced herself to keep washing dishes, her cheeks red from the tendrils of steam. Certainly not from whatever hot feeling slithered through her gut.

“Cauldron! Was he alone?”

“Oh no. He was with the most beautiful female I’d ever seen. Long blonde hair, green eyes. Couldn’t keep their hands off each other.”

Her clumsy hands dropped the cup she was washing, but she barely heard the clamor over the roar in her ears.

“And?”

“Didn’t even make it to the entr'acte. Took her home after the third aria.”

“Elain, you're good friends with him. Do you know who that female could be?”

“No,” Elain snapped, slamming a plate onto the counter “Who Azriel spends his time with is none of my business.”

“You sure?” Cerridwen teased.

“His tongue was halfway down her throat- oh! Mother above,” Nuala gasped, “Cerr, what color are the Shadowsinger’s eyes?”

“Hmm, Nu, I don’t recall-”

“Hazel,” Elain answered, the knife gleaming as she scrubbed, “He has hazel eyes.”

“It was so dark in the theater, I could’ve sworn it was him… but the male I saw had…. blue eyes. Oh Gods…”

Elain stilled.

The twins snorted in victory.

And then, she picked up a soap soaked sponge and threw it with all her might.

“Oh! Evil, awful-” Elain laughed. Even over her abject horror and rush of relief, she laughed and laughed, harder than she had in almost a year.

“I knew it!” Nuala cried, “Cerr you owe me ten coins!”

“I’ll get you two!”

“Jealous Elain??”

“How dare you!”

“The Seer is in love with the-” 

“Ahem.”

Azriel leaned against the doorway, his polite interruption causing the chaos to come to a standstill. Rather than survey the kitchen soaked in suds, or the screaming kettle boiling over, his attention fell to Elain, her arm raised with a dishrag ready to throw at Cerridwen. 

“Spymaster,” the twins harmonized and bowed. Elain turned as red as a rose, and dropped the towel, but forgot to lower her arm.

“There are some reports I’d like to go over with you both.”

The twins nodded, and then (those wisps!) their haughty faces faded into smoke. 

“Elain,” he greeted.

She was certain her embarrassment had dissolved her into bones.

His hazel eyes considered her with their patented apathy before he pushed off the frame. But then, he paused. Over his wings, wide and fluttering, he murmured,

“Good aim.”  

She stood still for a long while, but she could not contain the smile that bloomed across her face.

Finally she whispered,

“Thank you. Shadowsinger.”

She could have sworn there was a shadow that carried the sound all the way to the study.

i've only been writing for 1.5 years on ao3 and i've been blessed to have met so many supportive readers and friends along the way ^^ this year has been pretty special bc i finally started writing multi-chaptered fics (that somewhat have plot lines, lol). i used to shy away from doing those but gathered the courage to do so just a few months ago, and i'm very grateful for all the support i've gotten <33 thank you guys from the bottom of my heart!

mmyoao has a special place bc i really really enjoy bdsm aus/dynamics in general, and i have so much i want to explore in that fic. especially the side couples that don't have the main spotlight (kinnporsche, chanbig, khunpolarm). i just wish someone could pick apart my brain and translate all those ideas for me LOL. and puppy boy has so much more to give but aaaa college is busy as fuck and it really never stops, am hoping i'll be able to get a better control of work life balance and not succumb to the weight of academic pressure 😭😂

also i know i say this a lot but i'd really love to chat with y'all ^^ lmk what you think about my fics, writing, kimchay, what you like or dislike, what i could improve on, etc! i know i'm not a perfect writer and i'm bound to have preferences/fallacies, but i hope my writing has been enjoyable nonetheless! have a good year ahead everyone~

miscellaneous things i think could be good (or just funny) in a modern freakazoid reboot

dexter has a small friend group he plays dnd and other games with (because help him, this boy needs some legitimate friends)

more of dexter and freakazoid interacting with each other, being able to see how their internal communication works. bonus if freak can just. pop up on dexter's computer or phone to chat with him

a new villain or plot device based on generative ai, messing with freakazoid's sense of what's true and false (possibly deadpan? the early villain in the s1 finale?)

an episode on just how exactly to do a freakazoid reboot. freak himself is in the studio trying to find the best pitch to turn into a show, and even in the writing room, telling people that no, actually, he'd never say that, have you even SEEN the original show --

a whole episode's running joke of being sponsored by an mmorpg (with 20% off if the viewer uses the code RPGFREAK20XX). freak goes after the game's creators near the episode's end when he gets sick of the interruptions

valerie returns with a bit of a larger role, being steph's friend and possibly becoming the previously cut-from-production witch girl (because we need more women in this show)

short joke of freakazoid stopping a fight to tell someone who's playing a video loudly without headphones to stop it, it is DRIVING him UP the WALL. GEEZ

fanboy makes a return, and introduces his little sister: a freakazoid fan who's a little too into him and her favorite fandom ships. freak wants nothing to do with her, her brother, and her "intense interest with cargo and freighters"

cobra queen has an online shop where she makes snake-themed jewelry and does makeup tutorials. freakazoid is happy to support small businesses. he is not happy when she still uses her massive pet serpents to break into stores to steal things

gutierrez, with the internet taking off, also deals in developing software at apex. the new social media app they make leeches info from others to sell, but its main use is to find, tag, and track freakazoid wherever he goes

one of the villain's plans involve those fridges that come with a touchscreen and built-in wifi. imagine their surprise when freak is able to zap inside. he's on one of the shelves eating food and asking for condiments

an episode where lobe's scheme is based on one of those viral, seemingly silly mobile games everyone plays (flappy bird, candy crush, cookie clicker, etc). even the show's staff are taken with it. the narrator interrupts the program at one point to mention that he will no longer be announcing things because he's too busy playing the game himself

freakazoid learns about vr being a thing, and becomes a cryptid by popping into random games and streams. there's a whole short done like a found footage film or documentary based on people's attempt to find him

freak does a parody of youtuber apology videos for a segment, saying sorry to the viewer. by the end, it's clear he's badly reading off a script, and admits he doesn't even know what he's apologizing for

cave guy's plan for an episode being intimidating various scholars, professors, and newspapers to hide articles and research behind a paywall (which goes directly to him, of course). freak learns about it because dexter needs to write a paper for class, and needs to race against the clock to get his sources unlocked before its due

a short based on dexter trying his hand at streaming games. he ends up temporarily famous for his really well-done "custom freakazoid vtuber model" (it's just freak himself)

a short based on longhorn trying to get into nashville by becoming a music influencer. he does not get far

you-know-who has happily settled into his role as an internet creepypasta. there's an episode where freakazoid needs to follow a string of disappearances, linked with a recent internet "challenge" and posts trailing off after saying candlejack, which is harder than it s --

The first chapter of a brand new shadamy Hades and Persephone fic!

Hades knows how dangerous it could be to fall for the goddess of Spring. However, when she crosses the River Styx seeking asylum from her mother, Hades has little choice but to shelter her. To protect her as best he can from the gods on Olympus and the horrors in the deepest reaches of Tartarus.

She brings a light with her to the Underworld, one he hasn't seen in eons. The longer she stays by his side, the more he wishes she could stay. But they both know a goddess of life has no place in the land of the Dead.

This might be a hot take (and this isn't targeted at anyone either) but I'm kinda tired of the way some L4D2 fans don't take Coach seriously at all. Most of the L4D2 memes and meme SFM's I've seen on youtube have turned Coach into this lol funny meme icon and I don't get it.

Ellis is supposed to be the funny one, Coach is the responsible one.

Don't get me wrong, all the characters have funny moments, and Coach on his own is very funny and lovable, but Ellis was literally made to be the comedic relief. He tells Keith stories, he makes silly comments about his surroundings, he doesn't take anything too seriously, and he's a little dumb. He's the "funny one."

So it doesn't make sense to me how most L4D2 memes treat Coach like he's the goofy memeable one. Honestly there are some videos/fanworks where Coach is flanderized so badly he's barely the same person he is in the original game.

Not gonna lie? I think it's just because he's fat and black. Like genuinely I think that's the reason some people don't take him seriously. idk

thank you for the ask, i love Making Up Things About My Blorbos hours. this really makes me think bc everyone bonds with such different things for random reasons. i've had a rock on my bookshelf for 7+ years bc a friend from a volunteer group found it for me & i like the way it looks. so it's always so different. still, i'll try

Jacob's for sure is some sort of lucky charm that he hangs from the rearview mirror of his truck, that he has one hundred percent belief in. i can't decide what it is - a horseshoe or rabbits foot or something else - but he thinks he's invincible with that thing

Kaitlyn will take it to her grave, but hers is her half of the tacky "best friends" necklace Jacob got for them when they were little, and no one will ever find out. she keeps it hidden but she still keeps her half, even tho she's sure Jacob didn't keep his (he did, it's buried in his sock drawer)

Nick, if you ask him, will say it's his pocketwatch - passed down through his father's side, it's a family heirloom, y'know? but he can't read analog clocks for shit & he has no idea what he's going to do with this watch. truthfully, it's a pair of limited edition Heelies signed by a local musician that he got when he was twelve. he's keeping those babies till the value skyrockets

Abi has her sketchbook, obviously, & probably many more that she's filled up over the years, but she has this cat mug with a chip in one ear that she's had for years & she loves with all her heart. comfort mug <3

Ryan loves his earbuds & probably has a lot of things he keeps for Reasons but i choose to believe his sister writes him letters every time he goes to camp & he keeps every single one of them tucked away in his room for when he needs them

Emma enjoys having all of her things. she loves stuff. she has lots of rings & earrings & bangles she thinks are cute, she has a box full of scrapbooking supplies, three different wax melters that she liked the designs of. but her favorite thing is a little music box she found at a flea market a long time ago, with a beat up little ballerina figure, that she keeps all her most sentimental items in. the love note with the strawberry-scented sticker she got in fourth grade. a gumball machine ring she got with her best friend in middle school. her first ever concert ticket

I'm sure people have thought about this and stuff but I thought about this the other night. (I haven't seen anyone talk about it but I know that DMC 5 is getting "old" so I'm sure damn near everything's been thoroughly talked about) Why do Dante and Vergil look so different at the end of DMC5? If they are supposed to be identical twins, why is almost every aspect of their physical details different.

So putting aside all the environmental factors (like trauma, lifestyle, how many times they've died *cough* Vergil *cough*, etc.) there was something interesting in one of V's bonus images. I'll attach it below but there is a postcard of him drinking a can of Virility (I know it's from DMC:DmC *also the word is a link to the wiki on it*). The drink little phrase thing is "fitter, smarter, sexier you"; so, what if V drinking those energy drinks actually had an effect on Vergil's re-formed body? I'm trying to look at things from a neutral standpoint because I think that Vergil's hot regardless of what game (although he looks a little too bulky in DMC4--- that's beside the point). This also ignores the fact that character designs just change and that the PS2 can old handle so many polygons. Just hear me out.

Each bullet is things that are changed the support the idea (using the stereotypically "hot" things--at least, in American society) He has fuller lips. His nose is less pointed and the bridge is smaller. His chin is rounded off more; less pointed. His cheeks aren't as concaved/carved out; which I'm unsure if that is considered a positive--I don't really care for "typical" beauty standards lmfao Now let's compare directly between DMC5 Dante and DMC5 Vergil. Their noses are different. Vergil's is thinner and more upturned Dante's is larger and downturned. Their lips are opposite; Dante's lips are thin and wide Vergil's are plush and less spread out. Their fuCKING EARS-- VERGIL'S EARLOBES ARE ATTACHED DANTE'S AREN'T (this bothers me if you can't tell) Their entire head shape is different (which I think is just normal but I figured it should be here). Vergil's is tall n' slim. Dante's is thicker and stouter (he reminds me of a pitbull; like the lil' squish faces) fucK-- EVEN THEIR HAIR COLOR IS DIFFERENT. (Their eyes are supposed to be different I feel; Dante's are closer to Eva's while Vergil's are closer to Sparda's.)

DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON HOW NERO LOOKS-- HIS FACE LITERALLY LINES UP WITH DANTE'S MORE THAN VERGIL'S----
