"Shhhh, shhhhh-" Chengyu murmurs, stroking the back of Suo Wei's head as the smaller man sobs against his chest. "No more tears, I have you, be good-"
Unfortunately something he's said only makes Suo Wei sob harder and Chengyu gives a panicked look to Xiao Shuai over his head.
It's been... a rough two weeks. Two expensive weeks. He'd barely gotten off the plane when he heard the news that they'd taken Chi Cheng and he's burned through cash and favors at a truly excessive rate- first just trying to find out where they'd transferred his best friend, and then finding him lawyers and paying off guards to make sure that Chi Cheng stayed safe-
Making it so that Wu Suo Wei could visit without being seen-
"Da Wei-" Xiao Shuai whispers softly, wrapping his arms around Suo Wei from the back. "Talk to us. What happened?"
"He hates me," Suo Wei wails, fingers pulling Chengyu's shirt out of shape- "I told him- I told him about the house-"
Ah.
Well, that had been stupid of Wu Suo Wei, not that Chengyu has any interest in adding salt to the wound. Chengyu has been nothing if not generous- he's happy to take these expenses if it means his friend gets out- that his little family-
that his friend gets out. Xiao Shuai had offered up his clinic savings-
and still, Suo Wei had gone behind everyone's back and sold his mother's home to a rather annoying couple. Chengyu has not been enjoying his interactions with them as he tries to fix this mess.
"He hates me," Suo Wei repeats, this time softer and Chengyu makes an executive decision that the time for crying is over.
He makes eye contact with Xiao Shuai, lowering his eyelids and tipping his chin just so-
gets a confused look in response. Right. This is his Shuai- not Chi Cheng who would have understood immediately. He presses a kiss on top of Suo Wei's hair, then another, and another, all without breaking eye contact.
The body against his chest sniffles, and ugh- his shirt is absolutely going to be ruined after this, but that's a small price to pay to take care of Chi Cheng like this- to look after his boy while he's in custody-
The kisses move lower, forehead- beside Suo Wei's eyes- and it takes active will power for him not to lick up the salty tear tracks there. Settles instead of rubbing his nose against them.
"Chengyu-" soft. confused.
Cute.
"If he hated you, would he have asked me to do this?" Chengyu murmurs, lips hovering so close they almost touch Suo Wei's-
When he doesn't panic, when he doesn't pull back, Chengyu closes the gap.
Much better. This is a much better way to spend their time than crying over Chi Cheng.
"He asked you to-" Suo Wei finally asks after the third kiss. "But-"
"He's just upset at the circumstances, he doesn't like to feel powerless," Chengyu says. "And he wants me to take care of you while he can't. Wants us to take care of you while he can't."
He squeezes Xiao Shuai's hip behind Suo Wei's back as he says it. Shuai might not have been involved in Chi Cheng's original plan- but surely the man must have known that Chengyu wasn't going to pass along kisses without his own partner there.
Especially when said partner is Suo Wei's best friend, his mentor.
"Shuai-"
Xiao Shuai answers Suo Wei's little plea by kissing the exposed skin along his shoulder and Chengyu has never felt so fond. Shuai might not be on Chi Cheng's level of mind reading yet, but he's still understood.
"Will you let us take care of you?"

just binged episodes 15-20 of revenged love and it didn't disappoint. spoilers ahead!
the miscommunications in 15-18 killed me (and god chicheng is just So Unlucky with his timing) but i'm so glad the exe is finally out of the picture. not to mention what a Big Brain chengyu is to have repeatedly sent yueyue to suowei to get the issue out of the way???
in ep 19-20, i think ziyu (suowei's actor) really knocked it out of the park,,, his crying Sold me completely and i was tearing up s o much when he did. chicheng provoking suowei into blowing up/properly crying and then comforting him was just so tender :,, he really doesn't know what to do when suowei cries, he's so sweet and patient with him through his grief and that's really sweet aaaaa. not to mention the absolute comedy that was them tryjng to get xiaoshuai laid... silly boys. they're all so silly. can't wait for more episodes :,,))
#spoilers#revenged love#can you see they're taking my brain space#i promise kimchay is still in my brain i'm writing a fic rn#promise

Not Waving But Drowning (Ep 13)
ok sorry i got distracted by those other details from the ep. but i am once again asking for the KPTS scholars to dissect a kim look and it's this one right here:
(full disclosure the series of gifs for this post is titled like, "ohgodohfuck1, ohgodohfuck2, etc." i have been crying in public all week. and i accidentally dissected this scene in Reverse Chronological order, which is kind of interesting... does someone want to watch KPTS backwards with me? lord knows we've watched it forward enough times.)
i'm going to Posit™ some shit, but i did in fact ask for Your Interpretation...
this scene comes to the audience as a flashback, while kim is feeling emo about chay, looking at the polaroids in his apartment. and because it's got that flashback cinema feel, it almost reads to me like a glimmer of kim's mind, a bit of unreliable narrator? it's as if all of his memories of chay are compressed into a single moment, and its one that he feels he fumbled spectacularly. it's the epitome of their dilemma.
i didn't do a full rewatch for this (lol) but as far as i can tell, there's no other scenes where they're wearing these outfits, which makes it a little hard to place within the timeline. obviously this is before chay finds kim out, before chay is kidnapped, and probably before chay confesses? i reason that it's after kim has realized that chay is just a fan, though. the emotions behind the lyrics of chay's song seem to register as lyrics for Kim.
i think of kim, in general, as fairly composed. usually. he's an idol, well-mannered, and leans heavily on a poker face he's spent his entire life perfecting. (he obviously flips once he hits some threshold, which we see a few times. and then there's the moments where he literally has to turn it off, superseded by survival instincts.)
it's so interesting to me that he walks away here. he walks away when chay confronts him outside of his apartment, too. it's like, he doesn't trust himself, so he removes himself? or it's just muscle memory at this point? (he seems to flee quite a bit. he left home. he disappears himself after he pulls chay from the warehouse. its implied he's been avoiding chay. khun even seems to have a sense of humor about how aloof kim is when they meet in passing. kim continues to strengthen the muscle each time he walks away. walking away does not change things, but clearly he's getting something out of it. or it worked for him once and now it's just a character flaw. anyway)
he didn't even know he was playing with fire but now it burns. kim can't focus while chay looks directly into his eyes and sings to him. he can't sit still:
his jacket (HIS BLUE JACKET) is stained with black brushstrokes.
and perhaps my favorite thing about this scene is the envelope it comes in: we see chay how kim sees him now -> framed by the window of the sound engineer's booth, singing only for kim
my questions: why do you think he walks away here? what is behind that look? is it guilt? (because he knows how this will all later look to chay, and he understands now that chay had approached him honestly) is he barely containing the urge to return the apparent confession in chay's song? is he conflicted, torn by the firm belief that he's wrong for chay? is he considering letting the cat out of the bag, about being a theerapanyakul? is there something specific that kim does not want chay to see or glean from the look on his face? maybe a mix of some of these?
the other point of interest, for me, though not directly related to my query, is the look on chay's face. it's something like rejection or at the very least disappointed surprise? at face value, playing a song for someone you look up to is a very vulnerable act. this is not the reaction he was hoping for or anticipating. but it makes me wonder, also, if chay knows(/suspects) more than we all give him credit for? somewhere deep down he must know how unlikely it is that his idol would engage him, a fan, in this way? i'm not saying he's onto kim, but maybe he's aware something is off about this situation? or, i guess, another possibility is that he's just worried about kim?

Revenged Love served me with delectable scenes full of beautiful acting, lighting, chemistry, sound, and pacing.
Because we shifted from Chi Cheng moaning into Souwei's possessive bite out of jealousy.

To Souwei pressing himself against Chi Cheng in tears seamlessly.
It's just so much better when you realize that Souwei's been crying the entire time, and maybe everything is still too much for him, but he can't let this one go.
Yes, he's sexually frustrated. Yes, he's heartbroken. Yes, he's relieved. Yes, he's scared. And yes, he's overwhelmed. He not only just accepted his sexuality (debatable, considering what he said in the bar scene, but I digress), but also just processed his very affectionate and romantic feelings for a man.
For Chi Cheng.
It's just so great to see our emotionally constipated couple be this vulnerable with each other.
#seconding that suo wei is such a pretty crier#revenged love#i adore ziyu so much#and xuning does a wonderful job as well#i don't usually reblog drama stuff on my writing acc but this. THIS.

sometimes i look at this and i think about how chi cheng must be feeling - to be the one initiating all their romantic moments previously and now to have suo wei do it for him. it's almost like it scares him a littleー to be loved. it's something he'll need a while to get used to, but suo wei will be there until he does.
someone on twt said their favorite genre is wsw initiating kisses and cc getting slightly shocked and then melting instantly and i couldn’t agree more lakajajqnaliaba🥹😔
(ep11)
(ep14)
#revenged love#i love them so much#chi cheng x wu suo wei#they're in love your honour#i fucking love them#god i'm scared for the angst arc

thiiisssss. is a whole other can of worms LMAO
personally, the only commentary i have for this is "vibes". like- even here, we use both variations when typing friends' names so honestly i don't think it matters too much 🤣🤣 as long as you use the same one consistently, i think it's cool!
Quick thoughts on character names
disclaimer: i'm not attacking anyone and this is my PERSONAL opinion on how people are writing chinese character names in ENGLISH fic. pls don't come at me without recognising this. this is not a serious post, this is just me expressing my thoughts as someone who lives in a community that speaks chinese and english and commonly uses both languages in the same sentence. feel free to ignore this if my naming preferences offend you.
anywAys i was reading a bunch of fanfic for revenged love and i'd just like to point out the whole name thing:
the characters' names go like this:
- wu (last name) suo wei (first name)
- chi cheng (first + last) ~> edit: because it's already two syllables, he would always be referred to as "chi cheng" even if it's his full name
- guo (last name) cheng yu (first name)
- jiang (last name) xiao shuai (first name)
from personal experience, in english we'd usually call people with chinese names by their first name only, and full name for emphasis/much like when you're in trouble. also we'd usually call people by two syllable names, i cannot explain why. but it's also why chi cheng will always be chi cheng and not just cheng.
moving on,, e.g for nicknames it can be like:
- "xiao (small)" or "da (big)" wei (last syllable of first name)
- cheng (last syllable of first name) "ge" (older brother, much like "hyung"/"phi")
- shuai (last syllable of first name) "ah" (just. a sound. i cannot explain why. it just is)
- "ah" shuai also works
- there are many others, like "shīfù" or "lǎoshī" both mean "teacher", could be used as a sort of seniority/formality. and many many more nickname types.
also pls note that this is different from when speaking/writing in chinese, bc in chinese you'd usually use a mix of full name/first name/kinda depends on what you want to do lmao. i've read a lot of chinese fic where people use full names in the fic while referring to characters, but use first names when speaking to one another.
technically speaking i've also seen posts/heard from friends that wu suo wei's name should be "wu suo wei" because it's a phrase in chinese (meaning "(it) doesn't matter"). however to me it's a lot like calling natasha romanov by her full name every time i read a fic. it's like:
natasha romanov says, "this sucks."
bucky barnes takes natasha romanov's hand in his.
"yeah, it does."
also, referring to characters as "wu" and "guo" is just referring to them by their last name. in a lot of east asian culture, the last names usually come before the first names (wu suo wei, guo cheng yu, blablabla). so when used in fic it's like addressing them as "barnes" and "romanov" respectively.
while this is not wrong, it just sounds a bit strange... maybe just to me LOL.
all this to say - it's really up to you to call your characters whatever, but if you'd like to use their first names, then this would be how you'd write them.
tldr: chinese and english fic read different and i personally think it sounds better to refer to chinese characters by their first name when writing fic in english.
source: my brain
#usually we just ask whoever is named _ how they spell their names#government wise it's spaced#but some people like it put together like an english first name#honestly no right or wrong for this particula thing as long as you use the same thing throughout

in narration you'd just use first names! much like how you would in english fiction ^^

something eating me alive is the dynamics of ziyu and tian xuning (revenged love wu suo wei and chi cheng) and i Don't usually write rpf but i'm so tempted,,,,,
do i think they're dating irl? no. but do i want to imagine a sort of possibility of it through random fics? yes.
but also most rpf i have consumed is in chinese and while i /can/ read it i've been dying to find sth that's in english JSJSJDJD
anyways all this to say i've watched all 13 episodes of revenged love and their bts and i adore them. not sure i'll write more fic for them before my kimchay drafts bUt. BUT. xuning/ziyu have been spinning in my head like food in a microwave
#revenged love rpf#ziyu#tian xuning#that man is so clumsy and dorky but he's also so unnecessarily tall#he makes a whole 1.8m tall ziyu look like a smol child#and i know it's camera magic but vrrrrr ziyu also has such brat energy#and he's adorable and i adore him#i adore them all#aaaaaaaa#just. the way they touch each other is Very Intuitive and i like it#though i will also say that i doubt they're romantically involved irl#just Fiction things#much like another rpf ship i adore

am watching revenged love rn, warning for spoilers but i'm reacting as i go rn
- why does poor suo wei keep getting hit in the head by yueyue's not-boyfriend??? poor baby falls like a log too
- on that note it's so fking sad that they broke up bc suowei is broke 😭 i understand having different financial interests but also her not-boyfriend fking sucks
- poor suo wei being bullied by his boss while his head is dripping blood BABY
- changing his name from wu qi qiong to wu suo wei makes so much sense (yes, drop the 'poor' from your name)
- wtf kind of reflexes chi cheng has to catch the fruit projectile and fire one back?? considering he's half as buff as the other guy... ofc he's the male lead
- and then he doesn't have enough reflexes to prevent the sugar men from sullying his clothes????? sir was too busy staring at his future baby girl (wsw)
- of course cheng yu was looking at them..,,
- OF COURSE WSW RUNS INTO THE CLINIC AND CHENGYU TURNS UP?????? TO MEET JIANG XIAO SHUAI???? the way he asks for a consult- pls you couldn't be more obviously smitten
- xiao shuai revealing himself to be Gay in the best way possible, fking icon
- nI xI huAN nAn dE Ya (you like guys) so fking hilarious, straight wsw is fking hilarious
- wsw is smooth with the phone stealing but cc is even smoother with the hand grab/kicking him down (the casual manhandling is getting to me I KNOW THEY DONT KNOW EACH OTHER YET BUT !!!!!)
- "gē" (meaning "big brother", also used like "phi" in thai or "hyung" in korean) i'm weak for wsw sounding desperate and calling cc that pls
- ok but cy giving over his "boy", who happened to be working under cc's dad, to steal his snakes is so manipulative,,, gotta love the constant 5d chess that's going on
- did not expect yueyue's not boyfriend to diE??? WTF IS WRONG WITH CC (keep going)
- side but cc's father going "don't know who his bad temper's from/like" and mother going "what do you say (think)" is a fking joke
- wsw wearing jxs' doctor coat and then manspreading across from him - the unintentional seduction is real. also the chinese comments saying he has "儿童身材" (the body of a kid) bc he's scrawny is fking 😭 pls
- the dramatic irony of "not even god can open this truck" ohhh wsw,,, the title of this ep is just "wsw and a series of unfortunate events"
- oh my god cc pinning wsw against the door... and then paying him 5k... ok sugar daddy-
- YUEYUE?? THE FUCK DID SHE COME FROM???? WSW SAW THEM TOGETHER AAAAAAA
final notes:
- sexual tension between ALL the leads. ALL. i understand the poly allegations, i want them all to kiss sloppy at least once (i know we won't get it, BUT-)
- wsw GET YOUR MAN
safe to say that i will be in watching ep 2 soon :>>>

I know we won't get it from this BL but- sides do exist and I will kiss with tongue* anyone who writes Chi Cheng who is willing to be like 'okay, then we don't have anal' with Wu Suo Wei, with Chi Cheng showing him all the fun they can have *without* anal.
Even if it has to be suggested by the doctor for him to consider it
