Meet the people of Woodward Ranch! To most West Virginians, the place is just a normal animal sanctuary, but to those in the know, it’s a cryptid conservation ranch :)
Wyatt Woodward is the grandson of the man who used to own the ranch (I haven’t figured out that guy yet so…). His grandfather passed and left the ranch to Wyatt in his will, despite Wyatt only having met the man once or twice when he was little. Now he’s tasked with running the place, as well as grappling with the reality that monsters, cryptids, and the supernatural are very very much real
Lucy Lovejoy is a farmhand / wrangler on the ranch. She grew up living there and is miffed that Wyatt was given ownership. She believes she’s entitled to it because she actually knows the place and Wyatt didn’t even believe in the supernatural until he came to the ranch
Dr. Herschel Finch is the ranch’s science boy (that’s probably not the official title) and he does his magic + science stuff to keep the ranch safe as well as be the resident cryptid expert. He’s very chaotic neutral and would probably kill someone…yknow…for science! Nobody really quite knows his history, despite him telling lots of strange backstories about his past.
Denny is a feral little orphan werewolf girl that lives on the ranch and has deemed it her home. She causes trouble for Wyatt because he’s easy to mess with, but she’s also the one (other than the Mothman) who sees him as family the fastest
The Mothman is one of the cryptids who regularly stays at the ranch. He was Wyatt’s grandfather’s favourite, and so Wyatt quickly becomes the new favourite of the Mothman. Just look at him 🥺 he’s so,,,🫶

Cryptoria is Finch’s ex-wife. Nobody on the ranch has actually met her, but Finch’s reasoning for why they got divorced was that “she was evil”. They question why he didn’t take that into account when marrying a literal demon, and also why that was the dealbreaker, seeing as he’s not one to be opposed to some evil from time to time, but he doesn’t elaborate. He does explain, however, that she tried to kill him. Despite that, he also actively laments the relationship, clearly missing his hot demon wife. Cryptoria divorced HIM because she found him annoying. They’re soooo toxic for each other. They’re the kind of exes that simultaneously hate each other but would totally make out again if they had the chance.

EVERYONE RUN IVE UNLOCKED THE ANIMATION SKILL!
i will be unstoppable now >:)
Anyways I was testing if Carmen’s werewolf design was animation friendly and uh in conclusion. Kind of? I changed the gradients on her paws and ears to solid brown, and that helped. BUT her floating spots and side stripes might be tricky to keep consistent in animation. Idk I don’t animate often (or ever till now, but I’m learning) so I have no frame of reference lol.
Exported gif & screen recorded in procreate bc exporting screws w the quality and colors for some reason
~10.7 hours in procreate, 8 frames, 16 fps

For the next tutorial, Lydia Deetz won by a whopping 80% on the community poll! That’s more than fair, of course. After all- what’s a Toon-juice without his gothy little pal?
Surprisingly, I sometimes find Lydia harder to draw than Beejtlejuice since she’s got a LOT of little details- but she becomes easier the more you draw her! (It often takes me at least three or four tries before I feel like I got her correct, bur she’s definitely a loving challenge for me 😂💪)

Jahkjdhkjhs thanks anon!!! Been stuck shipping these two dummies since 2012/2013 when I was first ever introduced to Homestuck and had lots of fun different rps from stuff like Cherubplay. Every Sollux I ever had in any rp was a gem. They only made me grow stronger 💚💛

I’ve tried so many ways to learn how to draw environments and no matter what they end up looking loose and flat. I tried copying photos and there was always just SO MUCH I couldn’t focus and process what I was seeing enough to even break it down into shapes.
I started *talking out loud* to myself about what I wanted where, and going through and googling every feature. Using techniques I had seen in tutorials. For whatever reason, it helped. So here are the first environment sketches I’ve ever done. 🙇🏼‍♀️
They’re not great, but this is a huge step for me.

Here’s a breakdown of my animation.
Once I created the cave set in 3D, I retextured all of the blocks to be a wireframe so I could more easily keep the proportions correct as the camera moved through the scene. I began with a simple box person body. Not only did this help me make sure the proportions were correct but the different angles and sides of the character helped me eventually keep the characters features in the right places later. It’s very rough, but it was a good indication that I was on the right track.
Then began the tedious process of refining the animation. I did a new pass over the original animation with all the features of the character. It’s more detailed, but it’s just as rough in a lot of ways. I wasn’t trying to ensure elements were consistent frame to frame, so you can see a lot of the linework is very wobbly and inconsistent.
Once that was done I went back and did a cleanup phase. This helped smooth out all those inconsistencies and I worked on making sure the animation was smooth and flowed nicely. This became the basis for the final inks and color.
When I’d gotten far enough into working on the scene I went back to the 3D model and rendered it out in multiple passes. I did a flat lighting pass which you see here, and then a shadow pass. I combined the two in Premiere, added some color adjustments and then rendered it out to be used as the background for the final product.
I imported the finished rendered background into Procreate Dreams and began the final coloring. I’d already previously decided on the desaturated colors that would make them fit in this cave environment, so coloring was actually a breeze.
The final two elements that really brought it all together was a shadow layer and a glow layer for the torch. The shadow layer was tricky, but it definitely helps make it seem like the character is interacting with the environment.
As previously mentioned I thought I was going to import this into Procreate and animate it there since I like the Animation Assist tool in Procreate more than I do with how Dreams works. But ultimately because so much of this animation was tied to the movement of the camera I ended up animating ALL of this in Procreate Dream.
I’m really proud of my work here. If there’s anything you wanna learn more about how I worked or anything please feel free to ask, I’d be more than happy to talk about the process more!

Here’s a little sound-based villain guy I’ve been working on, literally have done nothing character wise but this is what he looks like! (For now at least lmao)

Also one I tried to shade and I honestly can’t tell if it’s better or worse
