GUYS. Guys I just realized:

These panels are PARALLELS.

In both scenes, an alchemist is having his world rocked by a challenge to his fundamental understanding of the universe. To convey this, the challenger reaches into the frame from outside the page, providing an additional layer of meta.

not to romanticize my job or teenagers but I love how they (teenagers I mean but especially girls) are always looking for something to love, something to be swept away by, something that moves them. their hearts, even the hardest of them, are so easily moved.

so many people can’t conceptualise emotional neglect as anything other than ‘my parents were cold and distant and never talked about feelings with me’, and this, while being just a general awful problem of course, is also what leads to so much john winchester mischaracterisation. in this essay i will

#like. it can also be #a parent who you’re close to who is actually extremely emotional and explosive and reactive #and via forcing you to look after their emotional needs and spilling their problems all over you also teaches you that your feelings qrs re #unimportant and that you’re unimportant. even if they dont necessarily mean to or they dont with their words!#anyway i’m sure john winchester was a mix of the two #but my point is like. God this applies to so much actually #there’s this incredibly pervasive idea that damaging parenting has to be like. i dunno. distant somehow #your parents don’t love you. you’re not close to your parents #and obviously that IS damaging but it’s not the only way a parental relationship can be damaging… far from it #and a lot of what makes john so interesting to me is he DOES love the boys. of course he does #and he isn’t some hyper repressed incredibly macho figure either like some people characterise him #he’s warm with the boys when we see him in s1. sure he turns all his emotions into anger but it’s always very clear he Has deep emotions.#everything he does is powered by ‘love’#(theoretically).#like. hes obviously close with dean. he even has strong ideals about parenting when he starts off (see 70s era john disgusted at how future #john actually raised them lol).#and he’s still extremely abusive and neglectful and damages sam and dean soooo much. like. all that can coexist #and it’s such a disservice to flatten his character and pretend it doesn’t #plus it just offends me. like come on.#idk i guess a lot of people like to project their own bad experiences onto john and it’s not like i’m saying they shouldn’t do that #but. characterisation wise #he’s awful in a very specific way #spn #john winchester #oliver talks

This is a weird thought I’m having so I wanted to ramble a bit but I don’t understand this weird double standards in fandom that I’ve noticed and it’s just. Idk.

JayVik is one of the most popular ships in the arcane fandom despite Jayce saying ‘he’s like a brother to me’

Meanwhile Genji says ‘you’re like a brother to me’ to Cassidy in one of their interactions and immediately everyone starts dunking on the ship saying it’s found family it’s this it’s that and now you can’t ship it. I think it mainly just comes down to ship popularity tbh like. It’s undeniable people like yeehan and JayVik a lot more than they like things like Spuriken and idk. MelJay? (only comparison I could think of)

I think with JayVik specifically it’s also that you get to see a lot more development between Jayce and Viktors relationship, so most fans would probably grow attached to it more despite what happens with Mel who we see a bit less of??

Idk about overwatch every ship just gets tablescraps I don’t even know where yeehan came from 😭 blizzard can’t even decide if it wants to push Pharmercy or Gency so I am so honestly over it at this point lmaoo

I have no issues with any of these ships do whatever you want I just think it’s interesting how people cherry pick depending on the ship/fandom ig?

(Obviously overwatch is not arcane and the fandoms/general fans/shipping cultures are suupppperrrr different I just happen to be in both and this is something I noticed while actively being apart of both fandoms)

thinking about the YGO au again and while I’m partial to the OG series because of the whole “possessed by ancient spirit” aspect of Yugi’s character I am delighted by the idea of Ichigo and Grimmjow facing off on duel runners. Underground racing, too, no fancy tracks for them to zip around, auto pilot disabled for maximum danger levels.

Some version of the shadow realm still exists though because I need Shiro to just start chucking people in there when they threaten his King.

Ichigo has some sort of artifact he inherited from his mother that contains Shiro and Ossan’s spirits and they take turns swapping out with Ichigo when things get a little too dire for their liking.

Aizen’s the Big Bad, of course, and recruits Grimmjow (along with the other Espada) with the promise of making him the most powerful duelist in the world (some unethical experiments to make him closer to the spirit realm later and he’s fucked up in the head a little but good to go)

But! Grimmjow loses to Ichigo in the quarter finals of the New Karakura tournament and subsequently gets stripped of his title as one of Aizen’s favored duelists. So he sets out to beat the shit out of Ichigo in the underground racing league the dumbass never learned to stay away from.

And they save the world together eventually 🧡🩵
