nari sighed and smiled, “well, that camera is basically the world before it was ruined and behind the camera is their present. the lenses are basically the filter of love, as it shows the beautiful things in the world beyond the appearance of someone or somethings.”

“no,” she laughed. “i was the one who suggested it, so you could understand that the physical appearance doesn’t mean anything.”

the hummed and nari clicked play once again. as she put the camera to her eye and turned to see him through it, cheol wasn’t blind anymore.

“and the lyrics are so deep, it fits more with the video than i thought…” woozi said softly.

nari only smiled at that, watching the video while imagining their actual wedding – specially now that cheol was dismissed from enlisting due to his injury.

as the photos in the mv came out, instead of being ‘okay’ like in the love filter, they were bruised up like in the real world. cheol with his blind eye and nari still mute and deaf, but looking happy because they still had each other.

Considering their lore (that I've never talked about before actually) and relationship with each other, I thought it would fit them the best if Yui is the patient while Kana is the doctor that he consults his problems with.

I feel like this would make more sense if I hypothetically already finished and posted Yui's profile (its coming, trust). But anyway, he is someone who grew up in a loveless family that burdened him with expectations (sounds familiar?). This is something he bonded over with Kurumi.

A major difference is that, Kurumi's parents love her genuinely and doesn't see her as an object/pawn to be used as leverage in Family politics.

But in terms of his outlook in life and mindset towards it, he resonates more with Kana. All in all, the comfort that he finds in Kurumi's presence is vastly different from the comfort that he finds in Kana's presence.

It rly is wild how much more info we get about how hard Ai worked as an idol just in the prologue arc, compared to Ruby having like 100+ chapters of the manga all to say "Ruby is the best idol… because she just is, okay????"

It sucks because up through to the Private arc, I actually think we had a really good and strong impression of what made Ruby such an incredible idol - yes, she had a leg up thanks to the whole Nepo Baby Reincarnation thing but as the First Concert arc points out, what makes Ruby so special as an idol is that she is genuinely having the time of her life being one. I think if you've ever seen any kind of live performance you can absolutely tell the difference in energy between someone Not Really Feeling It and someone who is genuinely, sincerely just having a fucking blast. It's electric and infectious and it really can elevate something that is maybe not as technically proficient into something honest to god transcendent - art is, at the end of the day, more than just raw technical execution.

I said this in one of my chapter reviews (or in an ask… I frogor) but the main issue with trying to sell the reader on Ruby 'surpassing' Ai is that the story seems so deathly afraid of acknowledging just how insanely in Ruby's favour the odds were VS. how hard Ai had to fight and claw to become the idol that she did. Ai actually is the radiant, hardworking underdog the story wants to pretend Ruby is which makes it all the more embarrassing that the story has to keep mining Ai's imagery to try and prop up Ruby lol

Honestly, part of me kind of wonders if Akasaka isn't aware of this… Ai's charisma and radiance as a character is kind of a lightning in a bottle feat of writing that's hard to do twice in the space of the same story, especially when the circumstances of Ai's death and involvement of the narrative have made her into such a larger than life figure. So he really kind of can't make Ruby surpass Ai in a way that's believable without falling back on UHHH RUBY IS GOD'S MOST SPECIAL LITTLE PRINCESS JUST BECAUSE.

Which, ironically, just reinforces that Ai was the ultimate, unrivaled idol at least within the bounds of the story. Even the character who supposedly surpassed her could only do it by literally having that achievement fed to her on a silver spoon.

Niceboy Ed

I think the most likely theory is that Taylor is Niceboy Ed and it is using it to announce/promote the re-records. Before 1989 TV it used the 1989 TV colours, referred to events in the 1989 era (Kentish Town, polaroids) and the ice cream emoji 🍦like the this photo.

The provided explanation is that Niceboy Ed is a friend of Joe's, but frankly that makes no sense at all. Especially now 2 years have passed and nothing came of a pretty successful campaign for a Sony artist. Taylor has met a lot of people who want to be famous that aren't (see The 1975 in 2014😂) yet never helped them like this.

16 September 2022 - A Joe stan account (no, really! 😂) posted to Twitter that Niceboy ed was a friend of Joe's, where they got this info??? The account kept posting about Joe until a month after the break up, so it seems likely it was connected to Taylors team.

17 September 2022 - The same account posted an explanation where they said he was part of Joe's 'frosty crew' and posted a much since shared photo of Joe with some guy as 'proof':

19 September 2022 - Taylor used the Niceboy Ed sound of Life you Lead in the 'Making midnights' Tiktok., then liked 100+ posts using the sound, she wanted us to all notice the sound. I am not aware of Taylor using someone else's music to post before, (especially to promote hers!) It's 15 seconds long, it was the perfect opportunity for a snippet of the upcoming album. I don't believe Taylor would do that to promote anyone, especially not an unknown artist that was friends with or was her boyfriend. At this time people were already speculating they were ending, if not already broken up from. The YLM date and TTPD has supported that they were not on good terms at that time. This was a year before 1989 TV was announced, but we don't know when Niceboy Ed actually started. The lyrics hint at Taylors re-records:

24 September 2022 - Niceboy ed posted to Instagram soft yellow posts with a blond baby boy promoting Life you Lead (1/3) hinting that there would be 3 songs/posts, and there now are

4 October 2022 - Niceboy ed went live with a soft pink screen and posted that Heaven would be 2/3. The songcredits only refer to Niceboy Ed and music is copyright Niceboy Ed and no label or licensing deal.. the way Taylor Swift appears.

5 October 2022 - Niceboy ed's first 2 songs are on Spotify and the lyrics seem to reference Taylors masters. The Spotify visuals are a field and a train line in Kentish town.

On Google Maps you can see that the photo posted looks to have been taken at the rail overpass and across the road in 2022 was a bar called "the Rabbit Hole" (right black awning here) which may be a longbow, but given the amount of 1989 vibes from Niceboy Ed I associate this with Wonderland. Kentish Town is also home to Kenish Kebabs that appears in End Game, the owner said that it was "a certain ex boyfriend lived nearby", that quote (and the music video) were during her relationship with Joe, he is not the Ex. The kebab shop is similar to one in the 1D Midnight Memories MV and the area is both near Harry's current home and where he and Ed Sheeran couch surfed with the 1D guitarist in Tufnell Park while Harry dated Taylor. (Joe also grew up in Tufnell Park)

3 February 2023 - Moonlight appeared, this one with a pale blue, it was removed soon after but is on spotify now.

22 March 2023 - April 2023 Life you Lead by Niceboy Ed was track 5 (1989 is TS5) on the Eras Pre Show playlist. There are internet rumours it was removed after the break up, but I can’t find any evidence of the playlist changing till Europe a year later which is also after 1989TV came out.

4 April 2023 - Niceboy Ed posts 10 underdeveloped polaroids. Fans could sign up for emails and revealed polaroids with messages, the emails had Sony Music UK as a street address, (but on Spotify Niceboy Ed, and unknown new artist seemingly signed to Sony owns full rights to the songs with no licensing.... OK, sure, Harry's work is licenced to Sony, but Taylors is now owned outright.) and a sign up for discord

April 2023 - The spotify canvas's are also updated to a blue sky and lights on a road, reminiscent of 1989 and Style

22 April 2023 - Niceboy ed posts a photo of a piano, (that is still there October 2024) and 'live from somewhere, wherever you are' that phrase was used

Currently obssessing over 0308 (as usual) and the way punishment/judgement is represented as fire in Fuuta's MVs and rain/water in Amane's. The parallels are driving me insane I swear.

What do these things represent in the MVs? Well, like I said, it's punishment or judgement. They're these suffocating, overpowering forces of nature which feel like they swallow you whole, right?

Amane may not mention water in her lyrics, but the visuals are clear enough.

But obviously they're so so different. The fires in Bring it On and Backdraft always have human origin. It's Fuuta weilding the fire swords, it's Fuuta who uses the highly flammable spray paint. In fact, Fuuta uses the username Pazuzu, a wind demon, and wind very easily causes fires to spread and worsen (more on the Fuuta-Pazuzu connection in this post by milk-ly I highly recommend you read!). Fuuta for a long time had control of the punishment and judgement dealt out to others, he controlled the fire.

But humans don't control rain. It always comes from nature, and in Amane's eyes, from a God. It's an immutable fact of life, punishment shall come because it is ordained by a higher power.

Right? You get it?

And there's more. Because rain and water in general is a necessity. It's something humans can't live without. Even if it's unpleasant or annoying when it does rain, people should always be grateful that it does. Even if it's inescapable, it's a gift from God. It's love.

Okay so that's all well and good. But probably the most important difference is the aftermath.

Because for Fuuta, fire doesn't leave anything behind, but ash. It's a completely destructive force. Even if something new can take the burnt object's place (see: agricultural uses of fire), the old object is completely destroyed. It's unforgiving, nothing good can come from being burnt.

Fuuta's lives in a world where judgement is damning. Just one mistake, and you're already burning, and no one can douse the fire. That's how it's always been for him and the people he attacked. Nothing good comes from being punished, and there are no second chances.

But rain isn't like that. After the rain comes the rainbow, right? After punishment comes reform, after being judged, one can become a better version of themselves.

The thing that ties all the Purge March scenes with a rainbow is the theme of punishment, of rain. It first appears when Amane fumbles the Gozake flag, later when Amane heals the cat, then the last two images are after her victim killed the cat. It's the good following the judgement, the "improvement."

The use of "bless" here really became quite ironic huh. (Disclaimer, I don't have a good way of checking if there really is a religious implication in the original Japanese lyric and I actually think there isn't)

He's going through the punishment here, and he's reforming! He probably wouldn't dox anyone again after what happened with Killcheroy. Suddenly, his Guilty verdict isn't just an unforgiving fire which will consume him whole and leave nothing but ash. Instead, it's just a tiny bit of rain, and as long as he holds out, he can see the rainbow. If you feel like you're standing in an inferno, wouldn't you rather be in the rain instead?

I've always been worried about how Fuuta would react to a second Amane Guilty. I'm pretty sure Amane herself would only cling to her beliefs harder, because when the rain turns into a storm, the rainbow becomes even more necessary. If after all she's gone through she still believes in her faith, there is zero chance in my mind a second Guilty would help at all. The question is what the hell would Fuuta do if Amane suffers so much and the only thing she has left is her religion. The issue is that Amane's religion, given everything I talked about, seems like it would love martyrs, so if Fuuta is already starting to believe, he's only going to be... more impressed? Maybe? By Amane.

And I don't know man, I really hope he doesn't end up attacking Shidou in Amane's stead, but I think it's not all that impossible. And it would also be very funny I think, a small part of me wants to see the reaction of people who voted Amane Guilty to protect Shidou if that happens.

Would Amane Innocent help? Not by itself, probably. But if Amane gets into a better mental state, it's possible Fuuta would be able to sorta start getting her to realize some of the bad parts of her cult and hopefully a Trial 3 inno on Amane would be enough to start a path to healing.

Listen, Shidou can survive a stab, and he can tell someone else how to heal the other injured prisoners. He and the others can probably come back from Shidou's injury. I don't think Amane can come back from a second Guilty if I'm honest. Given the Situation, I hope I'm wrong, but I am so so worried.

Come on Fuuta make a Timelines post asking us to inno Amane like Haruka did with Mu. Do it. I know it didn't go well last time but you know.

* appears as 戦うことも in the MV ** appears as ハースを灯す in the MV In both of these cases, the meaning is the same, just worded in a slightly different way.

Notes: There are definitely a few places where I really struggled to articulate the meaning or just wasn't sure that I was on the right track, particularly:

手のひらで/足掻くがいい lit. "with the palm of my hand, struggling/flailing is good" - can't be translated directly so it's a little tricky but it gave me the impression of Arlecchino bringing retribution to her enemies that's mentioned a few lines later, so I went with "with my own hands, I will make you pay."

欺くことなく/野心を晒け出す lit. "deception is not there, exposing ambitions/treachery" - 晒け出す has the connotations of not just exposing something but revealing something without concealment, to show everything as it is, to reveal one's true feelings. It gave me the impression of Arlecchino being contrasted with the previous Knave in the sense that, unlike her, she does not deceive the children of the HotH, but is being upfront about her goals - so I went with "Without deception/laying my ambitions bare." I feel like it's still kind of vague, lol.

Other tidbit: The description used the "proper" word for hearth/fireplace 暖炉 (danro) ("Is it for the sake of lighting the fire of the hearth?") but the last verse specifically references the House of the Hearth (ハースをつける**/"Light the flame of the hearth"), as it uses the phonetic reading of hearth ハース (haasu) from the JP localization (壁炉の家, read ハウス・オブ・ハース hausu obu haasu). So I guess if we're being super specific, it's "lighting the fire of the House of the Hearth", possibly playing off what Freminet says in this demo ("as long as the light of the hearth still shines, I'll always have a home to return to").

I am still learning Japanese as of writing this so take the translation with a grain of salt, but to the fullest extent of my knowledge, it's as accurate as I can make it. If you are more 日本語上手 than me, feel free to correct this ;PP

ever since i first saw the Dance Macabre and Kiss the Go-Goat music videos, i've always thought of pre-Ghost Nihil as. just some guy from Southern California.

i think he was a normal guy who just really, really, really loved music. Nihil's speech in RHRN seems to align with that idea.

it makes sense to me. Nihil would've been born in the early 40s (personally i put him at the earliest end of this range, born in 1940), so he grew up in the late 40s and in the 50s when Rock and Roll was first developing and becoming popular, and in the years when television became commonplace in the US. he saw the rise of the first rock stars in his youth and that inspired him. it became his dream.

i don't have any detailed headcanons about his early life. i think he sang / played music in school. and i like the idea of him being a surfer, haha. anyway,

handsome and charismatic, Nihil was always popular with women. he was also a serial heartbreaker. the relationships that didn't end due to cheating ended because his relationships always came second to chasing his dream. this is why he had 3 sons with 3 different women before he turned 24. :/

unfortunately, his inability to commit also extended to his career. Nihil was very talented– a good singer, instrumentalist, dancer, and even a decent actor! but i think he was unsuccessful because he couldn't decide exactly what he wanted to do. he frequently started and abandoned projects, and ended up with as many failed bands as he had failed relationships.

as we know, Nihil fell in love with Sister, joined her cult, and debuted as Papa Nihil in 1969. it was a wild few months.

i think The Ghost Project was Sister's gift to Nihil. she loved him. Ghost was a way for her to give him the opportunity to finally live his dream while also furthering the cult. with her help, he finally found success. well, we know how that ended.

one last observation: in Chapter 2, Nihil said "The bloodline has not been broken for 9 millennium. My father was Papa. His father. His father's father. […]" but he must have learned that after he joined the cult, since he had no idea what was going on when he joined in the Dance Macabre MV. i think he grew up the same way his sons did. (without a dad.)

Hello!! I'm always amazed by the sybolism and connections you find -- I was wondering about your thoughts on your favorite/most interesting of the birthday cake art!

I know that I have been posting a lot of Muu lately, but her birthday art is my favourite! It's simple and elegant and looks different from the other cakes, which makes it more interesting!

Before starting, I will separate this in sections so it can be easier to read!

Cake

Muu's cake is called Galette des Rois, a dessert originated from France and rich in traditions!

"This dish is eaten to celebrate Epiphany which is the day that the newborn baby Jesus was believed to have been visited by the three kings or Wise Men or Magi."

"Inside the cake, a fève or a miniscule trinket is usually hidden. Fève translates into ‘fava bean’ which was originally believed to be hidden in these cakes. Nowadays, a porcelain or plastic figurine representing baby Jesus is often put inside the Galette des Rois instead, a shift believed to have occurred towards the end of the 19th century. The person who gets the slice containing the fève gets a crown as well as the right to be treated as king or queen and choose their queen or king for the entire day."

Based on this description, we can see the similarities between this cake and Muu's Queen bee portrayal in the second MV. Her being shown doing what she pleases, finding comfort in her friend group.

However, before proceeding, it's necesseraly to give a brief history of this tradition and how it evolved over time...

"We traced this tradition of picking up kings back to Antiquity. In those ancient times, during the festivities consecrated to Saturn. Romans used to pick up king between their slaves. During one day this slave would have the luck to live like a master. Luck? Well.. after the day, in the best case he was returning to a state of slave, or he was just put to death. The roles were inverted to thwart the evil days of Saturn."

Awfully familiar, isn't it? The galette des rois it's a good representation of the dynamic in Muu's friend group. Because of how easily she was betrayed, it makes me think that the group was already formed or they knew eachother for a while. Despite that the old tradition tells that a poor person was chosen to be the king, which seems contradicting, because of Muu's financial state, if she were in the vulnerabile position of being new and not having friends, than she could be considered "poor" in terms of relationships. The friend group integrated Muu and started admiring her for the expensive things she had and for her beauty. For a short while, Muu felt like a queen, because of the attention she got at the expense of giving items to her friends. (In an older post I explained that Muu has the love language of giving objects to the persons she cares about!) Based of the phone messages, we find out that she has given an expensive lipstick to one of her friends, followed by Sayu who is expressing her wishes to try it too.

However, once Rei damaged Muu's reputation, the admiration and the "care" these girls expressed meant nothing in the end, followed by Muu's almost killing herself to be freed from the pain.

Basically, if we take in consideration the Galette des Rois tradition, Muu has been given the slice with the fève. She got the crown and have been treated like a queen for a short period of time by her friend group. Once the day was over (when Rei damaged her reputation), this privilege has been taken away from her. She had become nothing but a slave for these girls to make fun of, followed by Muu almost dying to escape from the pain. The same thing that happened to the people who were chosen as kings for a day in the past: being killed.

Gallete des Rois is usually eaten during Epiphany, a celebration that commemorates the visit of the Three Kings or the Three Magis to see the baby Jesus after he was born.

What I want to point out are the gifts that there were given to celebrate his birth, which are foreshadowing his life story.

1. "The gold represents Jesus’ kingship.

2. The frankincense represents Jesus’ deity.

3. Commonly used to embalm bodies, the gift of myrrh foreshadows Jesus’ death."

For Muu:

1. Muu being trated like a queen for a short period of time

2. Muu's great financial status

3. Muu being betrayed by her closest friends and almost dying because of them

Quite similar and interesting at the same time! The fact that the birthday art was foreshadowing Muu's second MV...

The earrings look a lot like the hourglass from her MVs!

She also has a teardrop coloured in green (the colour of the honey in her MV) representing her pain and sorrow during that period of time, and how with every passing moment she felt more and more suffocated in this horrible "friend" group. This was written in my latest post...! I didn't change much, since my thoughts about it are the same!

Muu's dress looks similar with Belle's dress from the "Beauty and the beast."

I think it's interesting how the story (not the Disney version) is originated from France. No matter what version you take, Belle saved the beast by reciprocating his feelings and seeing past his appearance, Belle's presence awakening his good inner self.

Somehow, I think it fits with Muu's and Haruka's relationship, in a way. Haruka thinks of Muu as his benefactor, the one who helped him become more confident and cheerful. Although Haruka considers himself as being "useless", Muu saw past this, and found a friend that she can rely on in a weird place like Milgram. She takes care of him bringing him food, prasing him and giving attention, basically, showing kindness.

"Haruka: Muu-san praises me. The useless me… She praises me, acknowledges me, looks at me, and she needs me. My current self only exists thanks to Muu-san."

Her presence and her kindness is one of the factors that contributed in making Haruka feel more confident, changing him. Haruka and the beast are both characters who weren't used to being treated with compassion... And so, the appearance of Muu, respectively, Belle ultimately saved them, based on their perspective and situation.

Also, "Belle" means beautiful in French and Muu is canonically described as gorgeous!

Flowers

->Rosa Rugosa

"Rosa rugosa is a strong symbol of Love and adoration.

Rosa rugosa is associated with the Greek goddess of beauty and love in ancient mythology, Aphrodite. Goddess Aphrodite is often portrayed as having a rose crown on her head."

This flower can represent the friend group's feelings of adoration and awe towards Muu, before the incident that changed their perspective on her.

In the second MV, Muu is in the center of attention, every eye is on her and every worker bee is waiting for her comand. Adoration and loyalty is depicted as the honey which is given to her by the others. This substance is sweet, alluring, like love, a sentiment which can become addicting, until you can't live without it. The fact that the honey is more green than yellow, can symbolise the superficiality of the "love" and "adoration" that the friend group has given to Muu. The second MV illustrates how Muu escaped from this intoxicating addiction of eating this honey (towards the end she is eating less and less, until she literally escapes from the honey, without consuming it), flying away from the hourglass, the place where she once felt safe and happy, which now is just an empty, broken space.

Rosa rugosa, in the language of flowers, means sad and beautiful. Sorrow and pain are sentiments that Muu felt during the time she was bullied. Sadness was a daily thing at one point, the girl wishing that tomorrow will not come, so she would not experince it again. Beauty it's one of the aspects that made her to be so adored by her peers, and also one of the factors that, due to jealousy, made her a target of bullying.

Moreover, the presence of the teardrops on her earrings, and the way she is drawn, as a queen, elegant and pretty, further illustrates this symbolism.

"These flowers are also known by the name beardtongue. This one is supposed to mean gentle courage or risks of the heart."

Penstemon is a representation of Muu's sorrow and pain and how she escaped from it. Being pushed to the point were she felt trapped in an awful situation, where she couldn't ask for help, her pleads being ignored, she managed to escape my eliminating the source of her problems. A risk of heart done in a moment of disperation, in which, once again, her feelings were not listened or taken into consideration, which ended up with Rei's death.

Courage for finding a solution to her problems, in a place where she only had herself as a friend, and avoiding, in the end, to succumb to those inner feelings which were pushing her to wish of her own dissapearence.

After murdering Rei, she finally felt relief, hoping that things will turn to better and be as it was before. She is feeling sorry for herself and what she has experienced, in the first VD, being unsure of her actions that lead her to this point...

This distinctive aspect of this flower can symbolise Muu's pleads and cries which ended up being ignored by her peers and adults... She tried to alert people of her pain, but it seems like, no one has cared enough to help her to escape from this circumstance...

Sharing my city pop playlist so you can find more city pop songs beside Plastic Love and Stay with me ✨✨

You have listened to Plastic Love and Stay with me once right? And you think you like these songs and want to know other songs that share the same genre? This small list might be for you :D I actually don't listen to a lot of city pop songs, it's more like I listen to different songs from one artist. So any recommendations are welcome 💖

First one it's KU-RU-KU-RU Cruller from Aqours! It is quite rare for a Love Live! song to follow this genre right? This song is really catchy, with encouraging lyrics and really cute choreography. This is also the song which made me realize I have already been in love with city pop. The song is one of my recommendations if you are new to Aqours and want to listen to something fun!

The second song is a cover of Kimitachi Kiwi, Papaya, Mango da ne (Nakahara Meiko) from Furihata Ai - one of my favourite Aqour seiyuus (I love all of them haha). Both the original version and Furi's cover are so good that I had to listen to them on loop for a while. Imma leave the Eng translation of the song I've found for those who are interested in the lyrics!

Next is a pretty old song from 1984, AIRPORT LADY, sung by Kadomatsu Toshiki. People said that they liked the retake version of the song in 1993 but I find the original version more appealing to me :D

Time to go back to the year of 1983, when Magical Angel Creamy Mami was still on air! And the OP and the ED of the anime, Delicate ni Suki shite and Love Sagerinaku are the songs I want to introduce to you guys today :D While Delicate ni Suki shite sounds so dreamy, Love Sagerinaku has more sexiness in it, but I am more biased toward Delicate ni Suki shite because it was the song I remembered most when I was 5 years old, and the chorus of the song just hits me real hard :') That's right, a girl's heart Can float a moon-shaped little board in the starry sky It can even, search for her own dreams too And when she falls in love, she delicately Falls in love, falls in love, fall in love.

City pop originates from Japan, you guys all know that, right? But what if we have city pop sung in Korean? :D Now let me introduce you to a gem in K-Pop music (in my heart, of course) whose name is YUKIKA ! She is a Japanese, who went to Korea and started her singing career there. It seems that one of her songs, SOUL LADY had become a big hit and inspired some K-Pop artists to try out city pop too! I personally like SOUL LADY the most in every song she has released. The choreography, the catchy beat, the lyrics, the MV, everything is literally perfect 💖 The song tells a story of a girl, who was so overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of Seoul, has become so confident walking on her own road, as if she is truly the "Seoul lady".

To end this, I will write down here the part which I find so meaningful in SOUL LADY chorus:

i think a good rule of thumb is artists don't need to disclose their medical history to "prove" their credentials. i understand how the fortnight MV and suicidal lyrics throughout ttpd can read as careless; i had some initial hesitation because i haven't stopped thinking of britney spears' memoir since i read it, and the lineage of women in her family being institutionalized against their will by and pumped full of lithium. but just because one blond pop star publicizes this doesn't mean every other should follow.

however, strong reactions to fortnight, in particular, must come from the discomfort of taylor's proud ownership of her songs as "about her life" (miss americana doc), but this wasn't even true of her discography at that point in time, before folklore; they've been about friends' lives, the kennedys, characters from books and film and tv, like she says about "death by a thousand cuts" and much of her older songs at NPR tiny desk. but taylor hasn't framed her music as narrated by characters since folklore and evermore, and she's never not appeared in a self-directed music video; i think she's only been a supporting role twice, in the ATW "film" and "i can see you."

i wonder if some more obvious buffer between her and the material might help its reception infinitesimally, like having an actor in the fortnight MV. then again, i'm reminded of pj harvey:

i don't bring in pj harvey for no reason. her late career has included incidental music for ivo van hove's west end productions, including all about eve starring gillian anderson and lily james. a few years prior, gillian anderson played blanche dubois in a streetcar named desire at st. ann's warehouse dir. benedict andrews. the ending of "hits different" (feeding into beginning of "fortnight") made me think of a streetcar named desire on first listen, which ends with blanche involuntarily committed after her brother-in-law assults her, her sister helpless to intervene. you might recognize the line "i have always depended on the kindness of strangers" that lana quotes somewhere on born to die, said by blanche to the nurses taking her away. i suppose early lana's midcentury nostalgia successfully separated lana from lizzy, and pj harvey did not start her career claming her lyrics as autobiography. unfortunately, taylor swift may never be allowed such estrangement because she doesn't seem to want it ("i hate it here"), even if her next directorial outing is something vastly more "period" than fortnight, even if she doesn't appear onscreen.

as much as people fantasize about her writing a musical one day, 1) "beautiful ghosts" was redundant to an already nonsense libretto and really just the ingenue version of "memory," so you're back to a ybwm madonna/whore binary, groundbreaking and 2) based on her music video treatments, i question her interest in writing in someone else's voice, as in a flesh-and-blood character with material context, not loosely-defined devices like betty and james

But you started talking in such a serious tone, it surprised me. What’s up with you all of a sudden?

Yuuta: You’ve been a coward all day, Aniki, so I started a fire under you to sober you up.

As you know, while the script for Timbres of Heaven is complete, it’s developments may change depending on the audience response.

If things stay the way they are, Neiro and the heroine will end up together—

Hinata: And depending on my efforts, there might be a chance it’ll be Amane instead.

Yuuta: Yup. Or one where Neiro, Amane, and the hero will all three be happy together.

The last one isn’t too realistic, but hey, it’s fiction. I think it’ll be an ending that’ll stick the most with the target audience.

Anyways. How it ends depends on our efforts—

Not weird

Some musings about Jaehyun's character.

I used to wonder whether Jae would present as more effeminate if he grew up in a non-homophobic country. However, now I think his "girliness" is not feminine, it's childish in its core.

I don't find Jaehyun weird. He has no strange, out of place, unpredictable reactions and behaviours (like Taeil or Jungwoo). Taking pictures of hair on the floor in the hairsalon, playing with a balloon on his own during MV shooting, chasing sea-gulls and geese, pretending to be attacked by a plush snake - this is a picture of a smart curious kid who entertains himself.

I wrote this break-down in 2019 and I still stand by it.

There are two ways to behave like a Child. 1) To be irresponsible, egoistic, whining, weak, wanting others to do everything for you. Facing difficulties these people blame everyone but themselves, demand others to solve their problems, can't negotiate, scream and cry to get what they want. 2) To be playful, unserious, curious, spontaneous and so on.

"Treat your inner child" saying is about number 2. It advises an adult working person to love themselves, unwind, buy a cake or a cute but expensive thing. Do something the adult lacked during childhood, or which allow to temporally comeback to childhood.

Jaehyun is a very responsible person. Even neos comment he doesn't complain. He finished high school despite practicing choreos till 5 a.m. He writes with punctuation, he greets with one hand on another arm. When he debuted, he wrote to his mother that now he will take care of himself, that she can live her own live (she had to abandon her career to raise him, his parents had him when they were still students, it seems). Jae says he is adapteable. He had to change environments three times (SK->US, US->SK, SK(normal school)->SK(Sopa)) growing up. He gave himself homework in the form of listening and analysing whole music albums during trainee days. He can take care of his own body, maintain a diet when needed. He knows how to cook, even how to clean an octopus. Jaehyun can take care of himself.

In theory.

Thing is, the most comfortable state of being for Jae is The child. The curious playful one who wants praise and affection. (Maybe because he lacked it growing up. Maybe his best memory, "safe place", is tied to the time before moving to US, when his parents took him into their bed, and his granny carried him up on her back to the rooftop to look at the Moon, I don't have enough info to speculate).

Two childhood stories Jae shared stood out to me: 1) how he washed dishes and waited for his mother to come home and praise him for being a good boy and freeing her from the chore, 2) how he was too shy to befriend his new classmates, when he cameback to SK, and kept to himself untill he participated in some kind of a performance and discovered people noticed him and cheered for him, how he liked that kind of attention that being on stage gave him.

And let's add the fact how he swooned all neos' moms, when he was a trainee, to the degree Doyoung complained and was jealous about mama Kim.

Mark, Ten, WW, Yuta - with all of his friends Jae reverts to playing like "a 5 year old". Pretending to drown, running away from the rest in the park, riding small bicycles. Even playing more adult games like paint-ball, instead of concentrating and becoming "a dangerous man of war" Jae fumbles and gives himself penalties by being clumsy and air-headed, and not even figuring out what he did wrong.

Jaehyun wants the freedom to be carefree and naive, in a sense, silly. Childish in a positive sense.

He can adult, he proved it many times, but he becomes his true self when he doesn't need to pretend he is one, doesn't need to present as one.

Enter Doyoung. The childish behaviour enabler. Yes, to start to see Jae as a man and a potential partner, Do needed Jae to "grow up" (emotionally). Do needs people he can rely on around himself, who he can lean on during emotional distress. However, outside of supportive boyfriend duties, when time and place allows for it, Jaehyun is free to be "baby" or go into his inner world, letting Do to be the mediator between himself and the outside world. Even more, Doyoung will play with him on his rules.

-still thinking about how fucking broken tyler looked through the livestream experience. how clancy was a puppet for the bishops through SAI. imagine how horrifyingly humiliating that would be. a man who tried so hard to fight something like that just to be the poster boy for it.

-still wondering what jenna and debby's roles are. like sure that's not a big thing but i care about it i wanna know where they are in the lore. like even if it's not meant to be something big id like to know

-i think i ended up liking draco malfoy as much as i do is because looking past the little boy who's a bully, look at his family bro. he had no choice in what he could be. his character is more complex than initially thought

-harry potter, as much as he deserved to be, was so whiny some times 💀. ron is just whiny in the later books. like come on you think this kid who's gone through hell wants to keep going through hell for some money?? ronald come on calm your tits and talk to him. just that whole fight in goblet of fire could've been avoided if he just talked to his friend. like you fucking think he wanted that ronald?? calm down.

-there's a few characters that if they die in s5 of stranger things im literally going to break down. specifically dustin, steve, and robin. if they die--dude like absolutely not

-peter parker you deserve the entire world you deserve everything. all the peter parker's in the marvel cinematic universe and marvel comic universe. literally i--UGH

-there's a few twenty one pilots songs that while i listen to them i specifically remember the music video and i think that's really funny. to note, some of them are stressed out, lane boy, somewhat fairly local, house of gold, guns for hands, i just remember the livestream ones for shy away and choker, there's so many but like--there's parts that remind me of the mv

-i don't think i ever hated SAI i just distanced from twenty one pilots in 2021 (which honestly was the worst time for me to do so but here we are) and thinking i disliked SAI was better than turning away from the band that probably saved my life from further depression and instead turning to dumbass minecraft youtubers that ended up just being awful awful people. i hate that. i hate that i was so awestruck by these mcyts that i didn't think about how bad they could've been. SAI is a good album i just never got into it like i am now and that makes me feel so sad. i don't want to be one of those "oh you just came back because the lore said this album was...blah blah blah" like okay thanks for the words and shit i don't really care let me LIVE

the mental image of akio and ichiro discussing their crimes is still so funny to me. ichiro tells akio the truth about his crime and akio realizes that ichiro's motive was actually a LOT more sympathetic and he's like ". oh no. oh NO" and ichiro is like "so uh. what about your crime" and akio is like "why should i tell you. get out" (bonus if akio was the one who suggested talking about their crimes)

but also. the implications that both akio and ichiro didn't completely hate their victims and actually liked them in some way. sobs... ("why akio calls chise by his first name" well WHY do you think he calls him that)

GOTTA KEEP THINGS SECRET FOR NOW. but it's fascinating to me because it's like.. aimi would stop talking to most prisoners but she would still continue talking to akane. she knows that her brother probably wouldn't like akane that much but he's no longer here, so who cares, right? oh, but akane better still be careful around her. one wrong word and aimi will stare at her and go "ahaha, come on, akane-chan, friends don't talk like that <3"

if aimi ever learned about akane's crime, she would be very understanding and she would actually admire her a lot and say that her father got what he deserved. and then she would go "haha, so our crimes are actually very similar!^^" it's okay, akane, just continue thinking that she's talking about her classmates. her relationship with her brother was so healthy and normal, trust her.

it also breaks me to think about how akane's case is more "obvious", like you can clearly tell what kind of person her father was, it's hard not to sympathize with her and all, meanwhile aimi's case is much harder to understand. she mentioned her brother in her first interrogation and she said that she likes spending time with him. she claims to have a good relationship with her family. it seems like her classmates were her only problem. and then she casually mentions that her brother's dead and implies that she killed him. and then she calls him a freak during her second interrogation and says he wouldn't let her live a normal life. girl do you wanna talk about it

also akane having really bad problems with money and aimi secretly being a rich girl and both of them still being bullied, just for different reasons. i wish i could say "if only they have met each other before milgram" but honestly.. i don't think akane would've liked the person aimi was before milgram. there really was a reason why her classmates hated her so much (to be honest, they were more.. afraid of her, actually).

something about aimi still acting so nice to akane while hiding the truth about her past and her plans for the future is so. HHHHHH. like yes, she will go "akane-chan, do you want to hang out? :D" or "akane-chan, thank you so much for helping me with akio-kun!". yes, she also hates almost all prisoners now. yes, she's planning to do something to them. just don't worry about it, okay, akane?^^

imagine t2 kei and t2 daisuke talking about their crushes before milgram. kei listens to daisuke and then he's like "woah ryuto sounds really cool! now check this out" and shows him a photo of ruka (don't ask why he has one) all beaten up and covered in blood. what would daisuke's reaction be. what would daisuke's reaction to kei and ruka's whole relationship be actually. imagine you're t2 daisuke and you have to listen to kei talking about how his bf likes to think he's a walking corpse.

hold on i have to put the image of daisuke seeing the way kei is treated by shun and eiko and still walking away and kei looking at him and trying to ask him for help or get his attention (but like "oh daisuke hi!! long time no see!! i know we've seen each other like ten minutes ago, but- hey! hey come on buddy, i'm talking to you! hey that's really rude!") but failing into your head real quick

this probably wouldn't be possible but them watching each other's mvs is still such an interesting concept to me. though it's also really funny to me because daisuke would probably be. at least a little bit surprised to see kei like that, meanwhile kei would be like "wow that was cool :0". that's it. that's the only reaction you're getting from him daisuke.

something about the way daisuke and kei think about their jobs is so interesting to me. if i'm not wrong and my memory is not being weird, daisuke was seen kind of as a softie, right? and i wouldn't say that he was like. a huge fan of his job. meanwhile kei was both good as a "normal" photographer and whatever he was doing for his dad's friend and he liked doing both things as well. (fun fact: even kei's boss thought he's weird, since his boss wasn't really that sadistic and mostly did it for the money)

this is mostly about t1 daisuke and t1 kei but i still think it's funny how if daisuke asked if kei wants to smoke with him, kei would say yes instantly but he also would look like he's NOT having a good time throughout the whole thing and would also look like he doesn't even know what he's doing. and he would also go "ahaha oh i'm just. more into vaping haha" while thinking "I HATE BOTH OF THESE THINGS". oh btw kei also has an alcohol-related trauma. never let him interact with noa please
