We all know the head canon of Thorin being all "no nephew of mine even associates with an elf" BUT

Just imagine, in a world where all three Durins survived, and Tauriel saved Kili (again), and some other elf healed his and Fìli's wounds last minute.

Thorin saw both his nephews almost die before him, has LIVED through how the gold sickness twists the mind and perception of things, and after coming to terms with Bilbo's theft of the Arkenstone, he for a while questions EVERYTHING.

And yes, he totally has a dramatic phase of self pity, holing up in his rooms, drinking Elvish wine (cus thats all there is atm) and smoking Gandalf's pipeweed, and mourning how "everything i knew is a LIE" and "if elves can make such amazing wine there HAS to be some good in them" and "I almost got my boys killed I am such a failure boooohoooo", and after Bilbo kicks his ass out if depression (and a STRONG worded letter from his sister) he is like "okay FUCK y'all I have TRAUMA TM and will do WHATEVER I WANT!!"

So when Kili all shyly comes forward one day asking if Tauriel can please stay with them in the mountain because she's banished from the Woodland Realm he's all "OF COURSE she can stay, you do you my precious boy, if Thranduil is stupid enough to let such a great warrior go we'll stick it to him"

and BAM, Tauriel joins Dwalin in leading Erebor's guard, and Dwalin is torn between "excuse ME u want me to share my job with a pointy eared maiden?" And "holy hell that lass has fire can't show how impressed I am".

And Tauriel Takes No Shit even from her own boyfriend, so Kìli is forced to take his new responsibilities seriously because "I did NOT lose my home to live with a CHILD, Kili", and Fili gets dragged into the whole thing without really understanding what happened, but hey, his lil brother is happy so who cares really.

And whenever someone at council (like Dain) complains about an Elf in the mountain, Thorin goes absolutely FERAL like "are you saying I don't know what's best for this mountain I just won from A DRAGON?! are you suggesting that my perfect baby nephew has bad taste? Huh? Exactly, didn't think so!!!!" And is a protective Papa bear "listen Tauriel if someone gives you shit you SHOOT them. Being that Sector Z was the best of the best, I'm more than sure that all of them got promoted to the Adult Division, and now have jobs that allow them to keep an eye on the other kids.

Specifically, they might take the roles other characters have, such as:

Alessandra is the elementary school teacher. No were-dog shenanigans, unfortunately, but everyone likes her because she's very energetic and creative; she makes sure the is school safe and fair for them. She had that mishap with Grandma Stuffum but welp... it can happen;

Lenny is one of Mr Boss' workers, taking Sydney's role. He's the one who will solve the "take your daughter to work" situation and help Kuki get everyone back;

Constance will be one of the moms... even if no one has ever seen her kids. But this way, she's allowed into other moms' spaces, and makes sure Sector V is doing their job by casually visiting the kid's moms;

David works more secretly: he's never seen around unless things get really bad. He's Vicky's second;

And then... Bruce... my boy... I am so sorry... you're the new Toiletnator BUT DON'T WORRY! You'll have a slightly different costume and approach to the character! You will crack jokes every second and make everyone laugh as you want! The best jokes are for complete distraction! You'll do great!

As for how they got there instead of Sector Z:

As I said, Sector Z will disappear in 1984. Their Soopreme Leader Numbuh 420 told them that there was some strange activity in a house down the lane in a city in Virginia, and asked them to go investigate.

Being that, at that point, Sector Z and Sector Ʌ were friends, David was the one suggesting that Sector Ʌ investigate instead, so they can show not only Numbuh 420 but THE WHOLE ORGANIZATION that they could do as good as any other sector.

Billie was a bit unsure but accepted the challenge, and the Australian group headed to this mysterious mansion.

There was a furious fight that involved lasers and gorillas and after that, Sector Ʌ disappeared.

Sector Z felt guilty and after some months of nothing, they took matters into their own hands and went to that mansion to see what was going on, only to be met by a young Father and his Delightful Children, who looked too much like their lost friends.

Since then, they swore they would find a way to bring them back, but also keep the other kids safe from them (spoiler: they took it too easy but realised how dangerous they could really be when they made Nigel bald).

INTERESTING THINGS THAT CAN CHANGE:

In Z.E.R.O. two things can happen: Sector Z comes out to help Monty fight Grandfather / Sector Ʌ is undelightfulizied and fights alongside Nigel;

Monty isn't the one that turns Sector Ʌ back to normal; it's actually David who gets the honour, and the two Sectors have a little sweet moment where they recognise each other and are told what they need to do;

Lou and Syd always hold hands, but you cannot see it because Charlie is in front of them;

Since the delightfulization works with kids who are not previously well educated, I think Irwin might sometimes snap out of it; he's had a very strict education that overlaps with the delightfulization. As we know, two negatives make a positive.

Sector V misses a Numbuh 4. In each "episode" there is a new kid filling that spot, and every time they quit because that Sector is "too much".

Around the second season, sometimes they get help from a kid with blonde, wavy hair and green eyes, and he's the one they eventually give the codename "Numbuh 4", even if it's not official. He earns their trust completely.

Yes, Irwin is Numbuh 4 and a Delightful Child, but there's no risk of backstabbing: when he's Numbuh 4, he doesn't remember anything about his Delightful status, and when he's a Delightful Children, he doesn't remember about his Numbuh 4 status;

When he's Numbuh 4, Irwin doesn't remember his real name. When he was asked what it was, Hoagie remarked how it sounded like he was from Australia > Australia has a marsupial that sounds like a name > "My name is Wallabee. Wally for short."

It's gonna be fun and sad when it comes out, but also, it will give Sector Z a new hope to bring all of them back;

Needless to say, the end of INTERVIEWS is NOT canon here. Maybe the one in the previous bullet point is the end of the Delightfuls: a hope for the future;

And since I first talked about Z.E.R.O.: Numbuh 4 is strangely absent, saying he was going to tackle the zombie invasion from another point and then disappearing. He reappears at the very end in from the wreckage of the treehouse;

Numbuh 442, Irwin, and Numbuh 4 all have different looks as seen below;

It's a kind of "Superman/Clark Kent" situation. Abby is slowly connecting the dots.

Goes without saying but HE AND KUKI WILL HAVE NO ROMANCE. Irwin is not interested in love, and even if Kuki might have a crush, he will politely reject her and ask to be friends;

To the answer "do the other know about Irwin's double identity?" I reply: no. They don't. They DO notice when he's not around (of course), but when he's Numbuh 4 the hivemind doesn't work anymore;

Back to the group: as Delightful Children, they don't have the Australian accent, and talk in plain English;

They have normal CAKED episodes, but of course, Numbuh 4 is absent in all of them;

How is it canon when it’s unrequited u make no sense whatsoever is it delusion or memes

first of all- 'unrequited' means distinctly not returned. Dean's stunned lack of response in the moment was not a rejection of Cas' feelings, and should not be considered as such. therefore, Destiel cannot be considered unrequited.

second of all- Cas' love for Dean has been confirmed many times on multiple different occasions, by both Misha and Jensen themselves, as well as Robert Berens, to be romantic love. that is not up for interpretation. based on that fact alone, it is canon. whether or not Dean's feelings are ever explicitly and/or verbally expressed does not change the fact that Castiel is canonically in love with Dean Winchester. that makes it c a n o n.

third of all- the fact that Dean's feelings have not yet been verbally confirmed is of very little consequence when compared to the monumental amount of very compelling evidence suggesting that he does, in fact, return Cas' feelings, even if Dean himself hadn't yet realized it at the time of the confession.

if you have watched this show and actually picked up on the frankly staggering amount of very clear context clues, it is quite obvious that, aside from his brother, Castiel is the most important person in Dean's life, full stop.

i don't have the patience right now to list every single instance that suggests Dean's feelings for Cas are mutual; there are far too many. but i will remind you of the most significant ones:

when Cas died in the s12 finale, Dean mourned that loss unlike he had done with any other character death up to that point in the series, and the way in which Dean grieved Cas was very purposefully portrayed in such an undeniably different way than how Sam grieved Cas. even the loss of his mother seemed to almost pale in comparison to the immense weight of Cas' sudden absence in Dean's life. Dean mourned Cas like a spouse rather than like a brother or family member; it is known as the 'widower arc' for a reason.

Dean was nearly suicidal up until the very moment he learned that Cas had come back. when Cas inevitably returned, the sudden change in Dean's demeanor was so immediately apparent and extreme, it gave Sam whiplash.

in the final seasons, Dean no longer showed much if any interest in having any romantic or sexual partners, a stark contrast to earlier seasons. the last committed relationship he had was with Lisa, which was quite a few years prior. this is in direct contrast to Sam, who had several romantic love interests over the course of the show (Jess, Madison, Ruby, Amelia, Eileen). the role of closest person to Dean other than Sam was always filled by Cas, the only difference being the lack of romantic label.

Dean and Cas' relationship has been directly paralleled in multiple different instances with canonically romantic couples, the most significant ones being: Sam and Jess, Cain and his wife Collette, John and Mary (during the widower arc), and Sam and Eileen in the final season.

additionally, directly following Cas being taken by the empty, Sam's attempts to call Dean were completely ignored, despite Dean knowing that his brother needed confirmation that he was alive. the sole thing occupying Dean's mind at that moment was Castiel; nothing else in the world mattered.

outside of them themselves and my own personal preference, them being a mlm ship and also not canon and completely hypothetical are huge factors to me. it's so interesting building them up in all of these different interpretations since theres not much canon to go off by, but the canon we DO have is really good

and now speaking of the ship itself the last point I made applies because ggy the book is just. really good. when you read it for the first time it's fine but then you reread it and notice things and look deeper and you find all of these things making the friend group you thought was average way more deep and you see everyones flaws, and that makes them interesting. the book revolves around tony and ggy so we get the most about them, and what it shows us about them makes me claw at the walls

it showed us how tony is obsessive when it comes to mysteries because of his dad being put in prison and how he cant handle not getting to the bottom of a mystery because of it, and that obsession has driven a wall between everyone and him. then he meets the most mysterious guy in the universe Rab and he becomes obsessed with ggy to an unhealthy degree while also slowly starting to prefer greg over his best friend since he was 4 (which like how am I not supposed to like the ship when tony inadvertently became obsessed with Gregory throughout the whole book that's so funny😭)

they're both flawed people and even outside of ggy Tony's relationship with Gregory is almost purely hypothetical since they never actually met. but making aus or story ideas where tony survives after the end of ggy has so many possibilities for his and Gregory's relationship

theres a whole new world if you think tony dies and Gregory mourns later on when he gets freed, theres whole new worlds if tony goes on a quest to save Gregory or if Gregory fights back against ggy to save Tony's life or whatever could happen. everything u could think of has potential and it could all be unique and different and could hit off their relationship in tons of different ways

and their relationship has so many directions it could go becuase of their respective characters. in my personal interpretation of them, Tony's obsession doesnt go away after he survives the ggy attack and he tries to track down greg after he goes missing after the attack, and when he finds him it's a year later and greg isnt actually greg at all but Gregory. to me the idea of tony having an idea of Gregory in his head that was never him and that he has to unlearn would cause drama between them but it makes their bond stronger. tony has to get worse before he can get better to me, and that playing out with Gregory as they get older is so good to me

and amneisiac gregory is one of my fave things so the idea that Gregory slowly remembered tony over the course of living with 3 star fam and had an idea of him too, and when he shows up on his doorstep hes excited to meet him and the fact that tony is from Gregory's past thats a whole mystery to him he means a lot to him immediately

I guess tldr they're so interesting to me because they have all the potential in the world and a thousand different things you could do with them, but also their characters themselves are already just so interesting and fleshed out that it's fun to see how they could get to a relationship from their starting points and how flawed they are. they're not immediately compatible and they have so much about themselves and their personal stuff to work through at the time they meet but they go through growth together and it makes them rlly close. they make eachother better people as they get older :)

jason had been in love with her for as long as he could remember.

as kids, she was the one who saved him: she had so excitedly introduced herself and asked if he wanted to be friends, she had brought him into her home, into her life, into her family. most importantly, she brought him into her heart. and by god was it radiant. she was the most loving being jason had ever known, with the kindest heart and the biggest brown eyes anyone had ever seen. they were dark like the earth, wide and fluttery like a doe, as warm as a hug. living in the most dangerous city in the country was enough to instill jason with fear, being completely alone and left to fend for himself was enough to give in to despair, and just being himself was enough to make him want to give up. but then he met her, and for the first time in his life jason could finally breathe. for the first time in his life, jason finally felt safe. she made him feel like he had finally come home.

but everything changed the day he died.

from then on, he had ruined the life of his closest friend, his favorite girl in the entire world, forever. and he didn't know how to fix it. a few years passed after his revival. he was nineteen, transitioning into his new persona as the red hood, and finding that it suited him far better than he would have preferred. he knew what she would say if she ever saw him like this: that he was a boy destined for great things, but that more than anything, he was destined to be happy. jason felt he was destined for a lot of things, but happiness was never among them. and he knew the mere admittance of that would break her heart.

six months after his death, jason had been resurrected like lazarus from the dead.

from the moment jason's eyes fluttered back open, his first thoughts were of her. and of just how much his death destroyed her. more than anything, jason wanted to run back to her, and hug her with such a ferocity she had never felt before. but he had already broken her heart once. and he couldn't bear to see her mourn him just to have to bury him again. he couldn't risk doing that to her. he would never be able to live with himself and goddamn it if it wasn't already hard enough. so when he came back, he tried his best to stay away. he didn't look for her. he didn't silently watch her at school, make sure she got home safely. he didn't ever check up on her or even catch a glimpse of her face for three long years. he begged his family to do that work for him. to keep her safe, make sure she was okay. even though they all knew she wouldn't be. he had vowed to never appear in her life again, because he figured it was what was best. that she would be exponentially safer and more stable if she didn't know her best friend had come back from the dead even more battered and damaged than he was before he left. he thought it was what would be best. that he was making sure she'd continue to grow up fairly okay, and move on. but his plans never went the way he intended them to.

jason caught her sitting on the edge of a building at midnight.

at first, he had no idea who she was. just like every night, he was stalking gotham's streets amidst complete darkness, passing by flickering streetlights and stumbling stragglers. his gaze briefly shifted up towards the sky, eyes set on the full moon and how its light basked gotham in an eerie glow. it was then that he noticed the dark figure positioned at the ledge of a building, and he sprang up without hesitation. the voice in his head was screaming at him that they might jump, and he didn't want to entertain the possible outcome if that feeling were true. he scaled the building with a swift quickness, moving in complete silence. as he planted his feet on the roof, he approached carefully. if he moved too suddenly or startled the person on the ledge, they could very possibly just jump out of fear. or just as tragically, fall by complete accident. he was dressed as red hood, as always. but he turned his voice modulator off because the last thing someone in that situation needed was to feel less human. and jason found that a kind voice could do a lot for someone struggling with their own sense of humanity.

"hey," he began softly. "could you step away from the edge, please? we can't risk you getting hurt. no one's meant for that kind of consequence, even if it feels like you deserve it. because i can promise you that you don't. you don't deserve this." jason crouched down on his knees, a few places away from the person on the ledge. they were small, covered by a baggy grey sweatshirt with a hood that shielded their face.

she replied in a whisper. "you don't have to worry about me. i'm not going to jump. and even if i wanted to, i wouldn't. i could never do something like that to my parents. it would destroy them."

hearing her speak made jason's heart shatter. she sounded so defeated, so fragile, almost on the verge of tears. "i really wish your reasoning involved more concern about your own life rather than somebody else's."

she merely shrugged in reply. this whole time, she hadn't looked jason's way once. and he hadn't seen her face either. but something was telling him that he couldn't walk away now, so he sat a little closer, directly at her side. he followed her gaze to the sky and how it illuminated gotham's streets below.

"why are you up here in the first place?" jason finally asked.

"today's my birthday. the big one-nine."

"so why are you here by yourself? shouldn't you be inside, with your family, somewhere safe?"

"i couldn't sleep. so i decided to walk around, and when i got bored of that i found this building, and figured it wouldn't be too difficult to climb up to the roof. so i did. i like watching the city from up here. feels less like i'm a character in my own life story and more like an observer to everyone else's. i think i like it better that way."

jason nodded solemnly, listening to her soft voice in silence. it was then and only then that she decided to turn her face towards his, looking his way for the first time all night. and when she did, jason felt his heart drop. in a matter of seconds, jason's entire body froze, his stomach feeling completely sick. he thought genuinely that he might vomit right then and there. he was eternally grateful that his helmet shielded his panic away from the girl who sat beside him.

because it was her.

"i think i've heard of you before," she said. "red hood. you're some kind of vigilante, i suppose. am i right?"

jason choked out a response. "yeah, i guess you could call me that."

jason couldn't have predicted her next words even if a time-traveler had come and told him themselves. "what else would i call you? jason?"

fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck. he couldn't do this anymore. he couldn't just pretend and lie to her anymore. he couldn't continue living while the blood in his body boiled to the point of near explosion. he couldn't fucking do this anymore.

jason's words came out sheepishly and far more timidly than he had expected. "what gave it away?"

she stared at him now, those deep brown eyes piercing his own, holding him at gunpoint. he couldn't blink, couldn't dare to pull himself away from her gaze. he had avoided it for three long years. he couldn't avoid it anymore.

"when you first spoke, i thought your voice sounded familiar. i immediately felt calm in the same way i had only ever felt with you. but i had my suspicions before that. for a while now."

"what were they?"

"i noticed sometime around the third-year anniversary of your death that i was the only one still visiting your grave. the only flowers there were ones i had laid at my last visit. and when you first died, dick was the one inviting me to visit you at the cemetery. it would be me, your siblings, and alfred. bruce never visited with the rest of the family, and we all knew it was because mourning you was something he preferred to take on alone. about four months ago, dick stopped inviting me. and there have been a few times where dick or alfred or even bruce would reach out and invite me to the manor, just wanting to see my face again, check in, have coffee or sometimes dinner. i brought up red hood once, and everyone froze. i could tell that there was something i wasn't supposed to know, and that everyone else was doing a horrible job at hiding it. after that, i just started forming my own theories. i never actually figured they might be true until tonight. you still use the same earthy scented body wash as you did when you were fifteen. i could smell it when you came closer, underneath the stench of sweat and blood. i guess some things never change, do they?"

again, with those doe eyes of hers, and those black curls that were disturbed by the breeze and her deep brown skin that always reminded jason of the sun. everything about her felt serene. like she was more of a fairy tale than a girl. and like always, she left him completely speechless.

"will you come to my place with me?" he asked softly, his voice barely heard over the whipping of faraway branches in the autumn breeze. and to his surprise, she nodded.

jason's bike was down below, waiting for them.

she had never been on a motorcycle before, so naturally she was nervous. but jason reassured her that she would be okay, and as always, she trusted him.

when they arrived at jason's apartment, she was fully ready to stay up the rest of the night talking. but jason assured her there would be time for that tomorrow. that now, all she needed to do was sleep.

"i got you some clothes and extra blankets if you need them. my room is clean and ready for you. i'll be in the living room if you need anything, okay?"

she stood in front of him with an expression of confusion plastered on her face. "jason, i'm not going to sleep in your bed. i'm fine with sleeping on the couch. i'm not trying to impose."

jason dragged his hands through his hair in frustration. "for fucks' sake, stop being so nice all the time. you just found out on your birthday that your childhood friend came back from the dead and you don't want to impose? fuck no, you're sleeping in my room, i'm sleeping on the couch, end of discussion." jason set the pile of clothes and blankets into her hands. "go get ready for bed. like i said before, call me if you need anything." and he left down the hallway without a second glance.

ten minutes later, and she was more than ready to finally go to bed. jason lent her his face wash, and found a spare toothbrush for her to use so she could properly wash up. as of now, she sat on the edge of jason's bed, clothed in one of his shirts that fit her like a dress. granted, it was baggy on him as well, but even more so on someone a foot shorter than him. but she couldn't go to sleep, not that she had tried. she couldn't go to sleep knowing her best friend was just a room away and there was still so much left unsaid. she hadn't seen him since they were fifteen. and these have been four excruciatingly long years. quietly, she opened the bedroom door and walked into the living room, where jason was sprawled across the couch, visibly uncomfortable.

"jason?"

his head whipped towards her direction immediately, standing up just as fast. "do you need anything? i have some melatonin if you can't sleep, or i could make coffee because i know with your adhd caffeine always makes you tired, or-"

"jason," she repeated, more firmly but still just as sweet. her hands reached up to cradle his face, flinching at first, until the moment her skin came in contact with his own, and he melted into her touch. "will you please sleep in here with me? please? i just got you back and i don't want you to go away," she trembled, lips quivering ever so slightly. but jason knew better than anyone how much she hated to cry, but she'd be lying if she said she wasn't close.

he could never tell her no. so he hugged her as tightly as his exhausted body would allow, whispering yes into her ear. as he climbed into bed next to her, she cuddled up close to him almost immediately. he was grateful for it. truly, grateful.

she dozed off to sleep within ten minutes, her head laying against his broad chest, listening to his heartbeat as if fearing it would never beat again.

jason watched her as her chest continued to rise and fall, listening to the sound of her breathing soothe him like waves of calmness flowing over his entire body. jason kissed her forehead, vowing to protect and love her forever as his body began to shake with uncontrollable sobs.

jason had loved her for as long as he could remember.

15. hello! i have yet another hyper-specific itmf request, so no worries if nobody has any recs lol. i'm looking for any fics that involve a character having to relearn how to communicate with others. like, (re)learning how to speak mandarin or how to act "normal." recovery fics also might count? i've recently realized this is a type of fic i really like for some reason so i'm looking for more! any setting is fine :)

this is weird enough that i want to explain it just to be clearer, so,,,, some examples in fics i've read are: zombie wei wuxian, whose mental faculties are only just coming online after being braindead (in A Corpse Called By Name); and wei wuxian being displaced in time, forced to learn modern mandarin instead of the ancient language he speaks (in The Shade of Old Trees). i know this next one isn't a mdzs fic, but another example would be xie lian in A Long And Slow Recovery, in which he just got out of the coffin and is struggling to act human and recover fully.

Summary: The aftermath of the night of the Blood Moon.

It’s a week after the events of the night of the Blood Moon and the day of Principal Larissa Weems’ funeral. Enid is returning to her dorm room she shares with Wednesday and is about to enter when she hears the muffled sound of sniffling and crying from behind the door. Strange, she thinks as she opens the door and sees the origin of the sounds to be her very own roommate. And suddenly it went from strange to slightly terrifying as Enid genuinely couldn’t think of anything that could make Wednesday Addams cry so much. She approaches Wednesday.

Enid: Wednesday, what’s wrong? Why are you… crying?

Wednesday: *hiding her face in her arms atop her knees* Go away, Enid. *weakly* … Please

Enid: I promised I’d never leave you alone again, Wends. You can talk to me. I won’t ever judge you or tell anyone your secrets, I promise.

Wednesday is silent for a long while, the only sounds coming from her are muffled cries and sniffles. But Enid is patient, not pushing her but also not allowing her to hide away behind her walls. Eventually…

Wednesday: Weems…

Enid: Oh, yeah… I’m really sad too, she helped me a lot. She was like the mom I never had, way better to me than my real mom.

At the mention of mothers, Wednesday lets out a pitiful wail, burying her face deeper into her arms as her body wracked harder with more powerful sobs. Enid panics.

Enid: Wednesday?! Oh gosh, I’m sorry! Did I say something wrong, I don’t know what I said! I’m sorry, what’s wrong?

Wednesday is once again speechless for a long time and Enid does the only thing she can think of. She hasn’t done this since that horrific night a week ago, but she somehow knows it’ll be effective. Enid scoots closer to Wednesday on the floor and wraps her arms around the mournful seer, embracing her tightly. Just as she hoped, the embrace slowly, but surely, calms Wednesday down. Soon enough, she’s calm enough to speak and Enid asks…

Enid: Wednesday. I want you to know that there’s no pressure for you to tell me anything, but I think it’ll help to talk about whatever’s going on. Talk to me, Wends. Please?

Wednesday: …

Wednesday: Weems is- was my mother.

Enid: *eyes widen* What? What are you talking about?

Wednesday: She was in a polyamorous relationship with my mother and father. They were all deeply in love and had committed their lives to each other by the ancient rituals of our family.

Wednesday: They kept it hidden because Weems’ always wanted to be the headmistress of Nevermore and knew that the school board would never take on a queer, polyamorous, Addams woman as the principal.

Wednesday: It was difficult enough for her to get the job as an unmarried woman and she already had to hide her nature as a shapeshifter to be accepted. So she hid it and changed back to her maiden name to protect herself. She hid so much about herself just to ensure that she could be the principal and protect her students. To protect me.

Enid: Wow, that’s… I don’t even know how to react to that. But… Wednesday? Why are you talking as if you’re guilty of something?

Wednesday: *suddenly screams* BECAUSE IT IS MY FAULT! IT’S MY FAULT SHE- *suddenly silences*

Wednesday doesn’t finish her sentence, the word too painful for her to speak. But Enid knew what she was trying to say and suddenly, everything fit together in her mind. She couldn’t quite wrap her mind around all of it at the moment, but she knew that wasn’t important right now. What was important was comforting Wednesday and squashing this quite frankly ridiculous idea she had that she was at fault for Weems’ death.

Enid: Wednesday… I can’t imagine what you’re going through right now. That’s so… fuck. But Wednesday… it is not your fault that Principal Weems… that what happened to her, happened.

Wednesday: *crying harder* It is! It’s all my fault, Enid! If I wasn’t so utterly incapable, if I was smarter, faster, not such an utter fool to be manipulated by everyone around me, I would’ve- *breaks down into heavy, painful sobs*

Enid simply holds Wednesday tighter, shushing her gently and carefully petting her hair. She whispers gentle comforts and consolations.

Enid: No, Wednesday. None of this is your fault. It’s not your fault you were manipulated by evil, evil people and it’s not your fault that Weems- your mom chose to stand by your side to face that evil. You knew her, Wednesday. Would she have ever let you face her alone?

Enid: Your mom refused to let you get hurt and so she sacrificed herself to protect you and I know that she would’ve gladly done it a thousand times if it meant you’d be safe and alive and happy. That’s what moms do. And she wouldn’t want you to blame yourself for her choices.

Enid spoke calmly and clearly to Wednesday, in a way that Wednesday couldn’t argue with even if she had the energy to. She knew Enid was right, and it was almost more painful to not have anyone to truly blame, beyond the actual villains of the story. It meant that she had to face the death of her mother, someone she’s adored and looked up to her entire life, someone who put herself in front of her to keep her safe and ultimately costed herself her life just to protect Wednesday.

It meant that despite all the things Wednesday had convinced herself of, that she was unlovable and unwanted, were completely false. Because her mother loved her. She loved her so much that she offered her own life for Wednesday’s. With this revelation, Wednesday had nothing left inside her but grief and loss. And… the warm love that Larissa Addams had given her throughout her entire life. Wednesday spoke in barely a whisper…

Wednesday: *broken* … I miss my mama.

And Enid’s heart broke for her roommate, who was now facing a loss that was utterly unimaginable to her. A pain that she couldn’t even imagine and yet she felt it deeply simply because Wednesday felt it. It was like, for a single moment, that Larissa was her mother too and she felt the impossibly immense grief that Wednesday felt. And suddenly, she felt connected to Wednesday in a way that felt unbreakable and indescribable. Enid shook her head, whatever that was would need to wait for another day. Right now, it was just Enid and Wednesday and the stormcloud above their heads and hearts.

Enid: I know, Willa. I… I’m so sorry. I wish I had words to fix this or that I could hug your pain away. I can’t do that, but I can, and I will be here for you, through all of this. You’re not alone, Willa. I promise. I’m never ever gonna leave you. I swear it.

Wednesday: *silently sobbing, nods*

Wednesday burrows deeper into Enid’s arms, who holds her impossibly tighter. The two girls sit there for minutes, hours, days, who knows, only the goddesses. Eventually though, Enid’s phone goes off, her alarm. She grabs it quickly to silence it and stop it from disrupting the moment, but when she looks at the screen, she sees what the alarm is and takes in a steadying breath for what comes next. It’s going to be unimaginably hard, but she made a promise to be with Wednesday through this. And she’s going to keep that promise, through the Nine Circles of Hell and everything they can throw at her.

Enid: Wednesday? It’s- it’s time… for the funeral. We should go.

Wednesday: *meekly* I’m scared, Enid.

Enid takes a shuddering breath at the heartbreaking tone of the poor girl in her arms, barely able to reconcile this version of Wednesday, grieving and broken down, with the version she came to know and love and understand these past months.

Enid: I know… I’m scared too. But we’re gonna go together, okay? And I’m gonna be right by your side the whole time. Plus, our friends and your family. We’re all gonna be there and we’re gonna say goodbye to your mom, like she deserves. And once it’s done, I’m gonna bring you right back here so we can grieve alone, in peace together.

Enid: Then, we’ll see your family and we’ll grieve with them. And it’s gonna be hard and scary, but I promise that you need it. Because your mom loved you so much and you loved her and you both deserve to have you there to say goodbye.

Wednesday: You’ll stay with me? The whole time? You won’t leave?

Enid: *smiles softly* I’ll be with you, Willa. I promise.

Wednesday is silent once again for a short moment.

Wednesday: *sniffling* I do wish to be with my mother and father and my brothers. And I want you there with me. My family would love to have someone new to share their stories about my mama with. And… I think they would love you, Enid. My mama loved you… she told me… you were her favorite, she said.

Enid’s eyes widen and her mouth drops at the new information, before she starts tearing up and pulls Wednesday in for their deepest hug yet.

Enid: *muffled* Thank you, Willa. *pulls back, sniffling* And… I’d be honored to spend time with your family. I’ll be there, too. I promise.

The two girls stare into each other’s eyes for a long time, losing track of it entirely until a soft knock comes to their door and the voice of one of their friends appears from the other side, telling them that it’s time to go. Enid giggles as she looks back at Wednesday who seems to be blushing, and she realizes that she is also blushing as she wonders if she was truly about to kiss her best friend and roommate right then and there. But not the time, Enid realizes. Another day. Another day.

Enid: *slowly stands, helping Wednesday up* C’mon, let’s go. It’s time.

Wednesday is quiet for a second, considering herself. Then, she looks up at Enid nervously and opens and closes her mouth a few times, working up the courage to speak. Enid simply nods encouragingly, silently and it gives Wednesday the courage she so desperately needed.

Wednesday: Enid… will you hold my hand?

Enid’s eyes widen once again for a second before she bursts out into lighthearted giggles and easily takes Wednesday’s hand, thinking in her head about how utterly adorable the seer was to find something so simple as handholding to be just as nerve wracking as asking for a kiss or something. She also thinks about how proud she is of Wednesday, how far she’s come since they first met. Not only desiring physical contact but also actually asking for it despite how scared she was to do so. Enid knew intimacy was a scary thing for Wednesday due to her trauma, and so she didn’t think for even a second of teasing her for it, simply accepting the offer and offering whatever intimacy Wednesday was ready to accept.

Enid: Alright, Willa. You ready?

Wednesday: No… but, with you by my side, I am not afraid.

Enid nods and the two girls, hand in hand, go out to face the unimaginable. Together.

Firstly, everyone is allowed to ship whoever they want ofc. U have the fandom shipping characters that barely interacted and it’s all fun. But there’s others claiming that her romance doesn’t make sense and so she’s better off with Zizka or even Musa. Literally any other character that’s not Henry.

It feels like they’re trying to erase (one of) the canon ships in favour of their HC. And this romance in particular is already getting enough bad reps. I get cold vibes every time I scroll thru a post about this

Yeah, I totally agree. Honestly, I'm not surprised the fandom treats her the way it does because tbh for the most part it's a case of "woman in the way of my gay ship", an attempt to boost the validity of it, overcompensation, and I say this as someone who's brainrotted about it. I'm sure many people genuinely ship Katherine with Zizka and Musa, etc, like to an extent I enjoy these ships too, but in some cases and narratives it feels like a way to pair her with someone else to gain false security in the gay ship (cough reminds me of people's denial of hans's canonical interest in women cough), hence why mental hoops of trying to dismiss the canonical romance option.

And I just don't see the point, any option is just as canonical as the other one because it's a freaking rpg. Any attempt to claim that this one romance is The Canon is annoying to me in the context of the genre and for my personal bisexual reasons. People can have their opinions about the romances, rate them however they want and discuss which ones are more well-written, but dismissing them entirely, especially when it comes to women, just lowkey reeks of biphobia and misogyny, even though I understand the urge to nuh-uh dudebros and emphasize the importance of the Henry/Hans romance.

Tangentially, tbf a lot could be also said about how the game itself could treat her storyline better, especially when it comes to her trauma. People have pointed out that women's stories were handled in kcd1 much better than in kcd2 which I agree with, especially when you put them next to an absolute unit like Johanka. On the other hand, I think that Katherine and her romance were integrated into the storyline quite well, like if we compare her to Theresa's for example. Theresa's romance has a lot of cute content but unfortunately she's not a character who plays a significant part in the story nor is really fleshed out as a character with any sort of motivation post-Skalitz, my girl is never even allowed to properly mourn in the main game, nor is there a text-based implication of her deliberately avoiding it. The flashback was great but we don't really see her struggling with and processing her trauma, nowhere near Henry and not even close to Johanka (which imo was brilliant in its subtlety and I do want to talk about it at some point...). With Katherine we do see something, its consequences, it affects the way she navigates the world even if it's not shown perfectly, she's also a willing participant in the story and a character with her own convictions and motivation (none of this is a jab at my girl Theresa to be clear). And imo... the romance itself is pretty solid and cute.

Mandatory internet Disclaimer I love most of the izuocha shippers and every ship has good and bad shippers etc

Second mandatory disclaimer I honestly believe the leaks could potentially be fake! but for the sake of assuming they’re not fake cause we don’t rly know…

I’ve already seen izuocha shippers claiming that the ending isn’t demeaning to any characters and doesn’t unravel their development at all and to this I say: I beg you to learn media literacy. You’re allowed to be happy your ship became canon! But to deny it became canon at the expense of all four of their characters is rich.

Reducing the main female character to just be the love interest in the very final moments of the series (when none of the rest of the series explicitly focused on much romantic love) can only take away from her character, not add to it. Whatever happened to her main arc? Learning to see the good in others and wanting to learn what makes himiko tick whilst letting go of the desires that were holding her back and confining her (aka her crush on deku), only to turn around in the last moments we see her to come crawling back to Deku with toga on the forefront of her mind.

Himiko dying for this woman, learning what it means to be understood and to be loved for who she truly is, only to be reduced to the motivating factor in Ochako’s relationship. Her memory is used to further Ochakos ambition to…go out with a man? We could have spent the final moments of the manga seeing how himiko inspired Ochako to help young kids be understood and gain control of their quirks!! Wasn’t that what she was doing in her honor and memory in the last chapter? Why not focus on that?

Once again, we see strong and competent women reduced to nothing but play pieces for the male characters in their final moments. You can say all you want how Ochako deserves to have a happy romantic relationship, regardless of gender, and she does, but no matter what this will take away from her character. This will be the first thing on peoples mind after finishing the series. The aftertaste left in their mouth. In their final moments, these women are used as romantic options for men. Himiko is not remembered as the martyr of a story about privilege and humanity, but instead as the mournful embodiment of the survivors guilt holding Ochako back.

As for the boys, this 100% reduced their characters as well. Izuku’s hero is Ochako? What did she do for him directly? Of course she’s heroic, but what did she do for him? Her most heroic moment was not when deku was even there to witness, it was a private moment between her and himiko so *why* is she his hero? What happened to all the reasons katsuki is his hero? Is he just chopped liver now? The beautiful parallels and hundreds of chapters set up to revolve around these two and instead in the end we focus on…something else? It’s kinda like how monoma is so prominent during the final battle as well as number ten on the rankings? He’s cool and all but why? Why him out of everyone? The focus is not where it should be.

And Katsuki’s whole motif with the hands and reaching out to Deku, finally being the one to reach out first in the final chapter, only for Deku to take someone else’s hand in the epilogue. Like. Come on. Now we don’t have the full epilogue yet, and rukasu & Ever (via twitter) said that there will be a scene where Baku and deku talk with each other, but going based on the full page leaks we have, is it not wild to u guys that the stories own deuteragonist gets less time in the epilogue than MULTIPLE side characters?? As much as I adore shoto, [he’s one of my top five mha characters (as is uraraka!)], Katsuki comes before both of them in terms of narrative importance. He is our deuteragonist, yet I see less of him in the leaks than monoma 😭

I could go on but like. I’m glad izuocha shippers can be happy, I truly am. But before any of you go around claiming it was a good way to make them canon, take some time to really understand the characters and what this kind of ending is saying about them.

cuz its all about that push and pull when it comes to love and gihun’s attention feels good and warm and kind to have on you and vile when its on someone else.

but! i think it’d work following canon too cuz i love the idea of an unrequited/unfulfilled love between sangihun (some sort of confession happening during their games, years of open adoration and underlying tension bubbling up in this very high intensity situation, its very romantic idk) and gihun’s following unraveling in the afterwards, gihun carrying the weight of the relationship as if sangwoo was still alive, (cuz in a way he is, cuz gihuns alive and he’s quoting him and mourning him and thinking of him all throughout the years leading up to season 2…) feeling like he’s cheating, feeling guilty (survivors guilt AND infidelity guilt is crazy)

inho swooping down to play and he’s ALSO thinking of sangwoo cuz of sangihun’s moral tit for tat in season 1 sparking something in him… and since sangwoo’s not around hes up to bat, he’ll be gihun’s new side to the same coin. gihun comparing the two is understandable and normal, inho’s comparing them cuz hes batshit and jealous of a dead man maybe idk! theyre two halves missing halves and hes decided to stitch them together even if they fit awkward in some places

something about how sangihun’s song (fly me to the moon) plays while they look at each other (all i long for and adore) endure a death game, and how even this moment between them is framed by inho being the one playing it for us… like their respective relationships are tainting each other. the games brought them (all) together, and gihun (the cheapskate ssangmun-dong) cannot exist the way he is (456) without sangwoo’s influence on him, gihun cannot attempt to rise and meet inho in power does not happen if sangwoo doesnt die, gihun doesnt get the prize money that allows him to train for and find the games again etc

something about two winners, two survivors and the way the dead shape them (dead moms dead kids dead friends dead lovers, the list wraps around them like the threads of fate at this point) (two people who return to the worst moments of their life, because they can’t move on they cant get on the plane)

something about two kids playing and then growing up with the waves of life separating them, something about the tragedy of the inevitability of growing up and how blessed and brutal and tragic it is to leave childhood behind (to leave sangwoo behind)

idk i think if gihun knew how how riled up inho was about sangwoo (and others in general, poor jung bae) he’d be weirded tf out BUT, maybe a little part of him wants to moan sangwoo’s name once during bed JUST to torture inho (who he hates and loves equally) cuz its all mental games between these two, they’d prob escalate it and have weird widow proxy sex and end up getting possessive and strange about it in ways i couldnt even imagine lol i think it’d end in tears genuinely inhos crashing out 100%

sangwoo remaining at gihun's side like a ghost and gihun making decisions based on how he believes sangwoo would behave, even when he thought he had lost sangwoo at the end, after the cruelty of the games had gotten to him.

inho seeing his wife in gihun and gihun seeing sangwoo in youngil/inho. "they're two halves missing halves" as you so brilliantly said!

gihun saying sangwoo's name and calling inho youngil on purpose because he knows it'll draw out a reaction out of inho.... i always think about how gihun spent the entire season blowing up at everyone. he has always worn his emotions on his sleeve, he is reactive, he can't hide an emotion to save his life, but in that confrontation with sangwoo, after the glass bridge game - sangwoo is the one who blows up. sangwoo is the one who yells and gihun is quiet. when he throws sangwoo's words back at his face, gihun does so calmly, almost coldly.

and now, with inho, he wants the same. he wants inho to blow up and himself to watch him. inho has taken so much from him, i think the only way gihun can feel like they are in equal standing is if he ever lets inho forget that he was never the first man (sangwoo) in gihun's life. hell, he's not even the secong (jungbae) or the third (youngil). he has had to kill every single one of those men in order to get to gihun, because he's that desperate to get gihun to become like him. but gihun, our hero, will never become like inho. if inho is icy cool detachment, then gihun is fierce fiery passion.

also, i totally agree with you, cheating in fiction is so hot, idc what people say.
