This is so hard! I like lots and lots of them, for different reasons. If I had to choose only one, and if I were to be sincere, Gin might be my favorite literary reference. I really love how much her namesake short story reframes Akutagawa's character, especially when comparing his Beast iteration against the version of him in bsd's main timeline. O-Gin also just really neatly and cleanly encapsulates what I love about Akutagawa's Kirishitan mono, including his affection for the Holy Fool trope.

To be more silly, I really love when Atsushi tell Tanzō Tonan that he has to feed his chameleon to escape the conversation with Tonan upon realizing Tonan wasn't being forthright (just ahead of the Decay of Angels framing the Agency). There are two references here that I adore (1) the reference to Chamelon Diary, in which Nakajima Atsushi semi-autobiographically recounts receiving a chameleon from a student and also his epiphany on how to live absent objective existential meaning; and (2) the reference to Tonan-sensei, a short story by Nakajima Atsushi about his beloved uncle, whom I also adore.

Rather than attempt to write an essay on Tonan-sensei and his influence on Nakajima Atsushi, I'll simply include a roughly translated version of the short story's Wikipedia synopsis:

The story depicts the protagonist, who secretly harbors self-loathing resentment towards his uncle because he shares similar mental characteristics with himself, but through his interactions with his uncle as he faces death, he gradually sorts out his critical view of the coexistence of love and hate and comes to realize the deep love he has for his uncle that lies dormant within him.

I will also include below a snippet about Tonan (referred to also as "Tan") from Nakajima Atsushi: His Life and Work, a dissertation submitted to the University of Hawaii by Nobuko Miyama Ochner in May 1984 (the date is relevant, because Ochner-sensei was able to speak to some of Atsushi's then-living family and friends to piece together his biography):

[Nakajima Atsushi's grandfather's] second eldest son, Tan, was also a scholar of Chinese. A bright boy, he was able to read the Chinese classics at the age of six and compose poetry and prose in Chinese at thirteen, according to the Japanese system of reckoning age. He was a proud, uncompromising, and impatient man, who never married, and who seemed to be always pursuing the impossible. In a short piece entitled "Tonan Sensei" (Tonan was Tan's pen name), Atsushi describes his uncle as having the virgin's beautifully clear, pure eyes— "the eyes of a man who is always dreaming an impossible dream." Tan, who revered General Nogi Maresuke (1849-1912), was an "amalgam of fervent patriotism and the temperament of a traditional Confucian scholar." dmmd is definitely my favorite! it is kind of an outlier compared to the other n+c games tho. it has a lot more comedic moments and the bright cyberpunk aesthetic is pretty different than the usual nitty gritty nitro chiral vibes. if you havent played reconnect you totally should! it adds so much to the characters (msg me if you cant find a copy online) and im forever trying to get my hands on the mizuki recode route lmao

togainu no chi and slow damage are about even for me. slow damage is the most recent one and might have the best story that n+c has ever written. its the only one without any supernatural elements but i think it makes up for it with compelling plot. its VERY dark but i think that makes getting to the end and figuring out all the mystery of the game v exciting. i DO wish the routes felt more...equal? like theres very clearly a true route and its very clearly the best of the bunch lmao. also give me an ikuina route pls hes sooo unwell <3

tnc is the first n+c game and its showing its age a little (i kinda love the early 2000s emo vibes tho). i think the premise for it is really intriguing! theres some killer world building and really fantastic bad ends (if you're into that sort of thing). the character personalities dont quite hit the same levels of intrigue as dmmd for me but theres not a single one i dislike. theres an extra character in the re-release tnc true blood too but ive never been able to get a copy

i'll be so honest, i did not like sweet pool at ALL when i first played it. theres some fantastic fanart out there thats actually swayed me back around to liking it more but like. i didnt know what i was getting into and i definitely should have read a summary first. i thought the thing about youji shitting meat was a running joke. i was not prepared for it to be like baby meat fetuses and cult omegaverse stuff. i like omegaverse but i wish i had been more prepared. its a low tier game for me tbh

i havent finished lamento yet! it took me years to get it working lmaooo im still in the common route. right now i'd probably put it between tnc/slow damage and sweet pool. its definitely better than sweet pool but its not hitting tnc/slow damage levels for me yet. i like the catboys tho catboys catboys catboys

here are some turbo-tastic poses though! there are three in the little cutscene we get so i did all of them, ended up being easy enough to edit. they're a fair bit different from the have some candy pose i did earlier, as i figured that for this request i might as well try to get it as classic as possible

I had to sit on this ask for a while when I first got it because I had a hard time interpreting what to do for it, cause you see-- most of the arts I've made about them already played off their size difference...for example-

I could go on, I really could... I think if you go look at most of my art for them, the height difference should be very apparent! So when you ask me to do a panel, my brain automatically went: "Oh-- they wanted a specific comic strip sorta that emphasize on their height diff me thinks? I guess I haven't really done that so here I go--"

Cause believe me when I say I hyperfixate on their height dif whenever I draw them anywhere near each other (which is like 99% of my blog at this point 😂) So if that somehow did not obviously come across then I sincerely apologize for my massive skill issues 🙏🙏🙏

So I've been kind of MIA since.. early november, wow. It's been a LONG time lol-

I really missed posting here and interacting with you guys, but I honestly think I did the right thing. Soon after I began my hiatus, I got moved to full time hours at work (retail during the holidays is a NIGHTMARE.) and it basically became my entire life. I had no time in the day to do anything besides sleep, eat, work, and then maybe if I'm lucky, I'd spend an hour with my family before they all had to go to bed for school/work the next day. It was a really hard time for me mentally and I had zero time for anything besides keeping up with my basic needs and just. existing honestly.

For about a week now, I've been back to part time hours at work, and I feel like I've finally been able to breathe again. I actually have time in my day to be productive and dedicate some time to my hobbies again.. I missed drawing so much, I missed talking to my friends and mutuals and I missed the cozy little community I've built here with you all.. I've been wanting to post this for a few days but couldn't really figure out what to say, so I'm finally just gonna word vomit here for a bit

Even if I hadn't been able to create much the past couple months, I kept my little noggin full of ideas just bouncing around in there and I've been deep in the trenches of an Arcane hyperfixation since season 2 came out LOL It's kind of embarrassing but it's what's kept me sane these past few months, being able to just focus on a thing I like and analyze it and see all the cool stuff other artists and editors have done with it has been really refreshing and allowed me to develop a little creative backlog in my brain of things I want to make :3 I've never really been into drawing fanart but that changed FAST after I was exposed to the Horrors (Jayvik) and got the ultra mega hyper gay brainrot. Those two bastards are living in my head and REFUSE TO PAY RENT so yall are just gonna see me posting Jayvik slop for a while, and I am NOT SORRY HAHA THIS IS MY BLOG, I DO AS I PLEASE-

Also I'm gonna try to be less shy about other (COUGHBERRY) kinks I've been wanting to post here too, so erm. If you're not a fan of that jazz just mind ya business (respectfully)
