still i think the one of the more fun differences drawn between illario and lucanis that was lost would be illario's ability to endear himself to others but serious lack of empathy, vs. lucanis' (self perceived) inability to be charming but how much he cares. it's interesting that the game has gone with the "lucanis' ability vs illario's lack thereof" because i think illario being the dellamorte 'best in show dog' vs. lucanis' attack dog would have made me so unwell.

lucanis is... awkward. he's not unlikable, because he is usually very polite, but he doesn't speak much and only seems to care about the other dellamortes. he once sent viago de riva a knife with no note (who knows what he could have meant by this). he does what caterina asks of him, and by his own admission, cannot say no to her. he is a dramatic and prolific killer, and that makes how untouchable he is even worse.

and the crows like illario, sure, AND he's a good assassin! he's even a good crow! he's so good that he can make lucanis smile, and so he is the charming, sociable one. he's the one that stays in treviso and can be relied upon to care, illario's even the one people prefer over caterina and lucanis!

but illario is decoration. he's the prize poodle, and even if poodles were bred to be working dogs, nobody will ever pick him to protect the house over the german shepherd that regularly mauls intruders. anyways the analogy is getting away from me. the point i'm trying to make is that i want illario to have a different kind of jealousy/hatred that's not just over 'being bad at killing' but also an arrogant loathing for everyone around him that is getting harder to hide, because they've forgotten he can bite and is just itching to rip someone's jugular out. illario is very good at hiding his family resemblance to caterina, while lucanis suffers under his grandmother's, and his own, reputation.

I've been thinking about the moment Lawrence tells Bellini about his papal name "John. I would choose John".

On one hand the words of Conclave writer Peter Straughan bounce around in my head like a windows xp saving screen: "Lawrence admits he has harbored that ambition, that he has prepared his name. It's true what Bellini said about him. It's true about all of them -- except for one person, of course."

And on the other hand it's such a tender little moment. Lawrence could just, not say it and retain the moral high ground literally forever. And as always, always, he chooses to step down, and comfort his longtime confident and friend by looking at him, holding his hands and telling him "look. I'm down here in the muck with the rest of you. With you." And also, perhaps even more importantly "you did not read me wrong. You do, know me."

When I say I really want a Jason adopts tim fic, I don't mean I want him to become a parent at 19 to a teen like 2-4 years younger than him, I want Jason to meet Tim and decide that he wants Tim on his side.

I want Jason to adopt Tim as his Robin, like he decides that he wants to recruit this 15 year old that is some how the smartest and snarkiest person in Gotham. I don't want infantilised tim, I want a sorta Nani and Lilo sibling dynamic, but with a smaller age gap.

Like sure, Jason sees his little brother as some sort of soggy kitten that he must protect, but also a Tim that is very capable of looking after himself.

I want Tim to look at Jason, see Bruce back when he first donned the Cape and traffic light colours. And then in true Tim fashion decide to fix him, B was being too over protective since Red Hood showed up anyways.

Like imagine, Jason meeting Tim instead by accident when he drops in on a drug trade. Tim says some quip that throws him off his game while fighting. Jason basically losing to a very deadly fifteen year old who's not slept in 29 hours, and he thinks 'f it, I like the kid'. Then trying to recruit him consistently until Tim goes 'why tf not'.

Can you tell us a little about your Wade?

Wade Wilson is an incredibly bitter and angry man. Funny, though. Because humor is the defense mechanism that keeps his mouth running so he doesn't have to listen to himself think.

But he only ever talks about what he feels. Never about his feelings. Those are dangerous. Despite the endless chatter, he's incredibly guarded and keeps his deepest darkest secrets locked tight.

Like how he's always wanted to be good, but doesn't really believe in it anymore because every instance of his life has stripped that faith from him. He doesn't believe in much, especially himself.

He's also incredibly lonely, but has given up on sustaining meaningful relationships. Wade is a mess. Everything in his head is mixed up in a cacophony of noise and chronic pain. All his coping mechanisms are just advanced forms of running away from himself (hyperfixations/substance abuse/self harm/killing), so its only fitting that others run away too.

And people never want what's past the walls, so he leans into it, pushing and twisting the knife just to see how fast he can get people to leave because the game was always rigged- so he might as well win first. And because he'd rather kill himself (and does) than be vulnerable with others.

But the need is still there. Wade takes all the physical and emotional trauma and turns it around, using pain to cope with pain, and hypersexualizing violence to fulfill his need for intimacy.

As a merc, he's damn good at what he does. Wade is smarter than he portrays and is incredibly competent. He enjoys the violence, especially when people can give as good as they get. He has some morals, but those are hanging on a frayed thread on the best of days.

Most days he feels untethered, a piece of driftwood being tossed and turned in an turbulent sea. But there's two new figures in his life that give him something to hyperfixate on. Might as well see how much of a beating they can take before they inevitably leave him too.

Something about how Fadel’s first instinct after he finds out the full extent of Lily’s betrayal is anger at Keen and then later guilt and anger at himself.

Something about how Fadel never even considered the possibility of her being his true enemy when his ex disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Something about how Fadel — fastidious, paranoid, cautious Fadel — refused to noticed any of the red flags until the accusation was put into words and something in his brain slotted into place because suddenly all the things he has been ignoring for years made sense.

Something about how thoroughly effective Lily’s brainwashing was because Fadel desperately wants to have a mother, wants to be treasured and protected and loved with gentle and soft hands.

Something about how Style gives that to him without thought or prompting, all instinct to reach out with a delicately soft touch, because his love for Fadel enables him see true, to see the broken heart Fadel tries so hard to hide behind a harsh exterior, before Fadel has even uttered a word, and in so doing, loves Fadel with all the careful tenderness that he so richly deserves.

(Something about how Fadel trusts Style so fully that he does not show the slightest bit of hesitancy or caution when Style touches him so intimately.)

Something about how Fadel was searching in all the wrong places for someone to simply hold him, and found it instead when he wasn't even looking, in the arms of the most unlikely and wonderfully perfect person.

I've seen the headcanon that Lucanis' mother, Caterina's perfect heir, was actually similar to Illario in some ways. That she was calculating, ruthless, ambitious, obedient... all the things Caterina overlooks in Illario because Caterina sees her favourite daughter's deep brown eyes and quiet, controlled demeanor and careful planning in Lucanis.

But I am also attached to the idea that the opposite is true too. That Illario's mother shared similarities with Lucanis; that she was empathetic and stubborn, with a slight rebellious streak. But she was always outgoing and charming, was more impulsive with her emotions, and was always sharper with her tongue than with a sword, so Caterina only sees her in Illario.

I just love the idea that Caterina can't look beyond the surface and see who her grandsons really are because on some level she can't see past the ghosts reflected in their eyes. She can't see that the quiet brown eyed boy is is more of the gentle hearted rebel, and the one with blue eyes and a shining, fake smile is the ruthless leader who would do anything she asked.
