Ok when I first watched this I didn’t know what to expect from Spot Colon but I remember that as soon as I saw him I had a crush on him instantly. 🥰

People always make fun of Spot’s height, whether it be 92sies or Livesies. But being a short person myself and knowing other short people I can honestly say that short people definitely can be scary! Seriously I’ve scared more people than I can count even if I don’t mean to, so imagine Spot Colon intentionally trying to be scary! To quote Yoda: ‘size matters not!’ Spot Colon could kick everyone’s ass if he wanted!

I luv how all the other Brooklyn newsies are just waiting intimidatingly in the background for Spot to either give the all clear or the o-k to soak Davey.

How did numerous fan theories about Spot’s key get started? 🗝️

Seize the Day is on fire! I luv the quick footwork and acro work in the confined space even though the dance number could’ve been held in a bigger area.

Where did the newsies get tomatoes to throw at Wiesel? 🍅

They really make us hate Snyder. Even if you don’t like Jack (don’t know how someone could but whatever), you really feel bad for him when Snyder takes him back to the Refuge. 😣

How in the world does nobody notice the newsies hiding out around the refuge or when Davey rides on the back of the carriage? There’s cops literally 10 feet from them and they still don’t see a group of kids?

Even when Jack’s yelling he’s still less angry then Jeremy’s angry Jack.

All the Refuge gives you to sleep on is a rusty bed frame? Ouch!

It doesn’t take going through a whole day sulking and getting yelled at by Katherine for 92sies Jack to change his mind, it only takes the Delancys beating up the Jacobs for him to finally say no. 

Once And For All is catchier than the Livesies version

I like how they show all the different kids at odds and ends jobs, as well as how some kids back then didn’t know how to read.

Only thing is I wish they would’ve talked about the details with the deal with Pulitzer

Overall I’d want to know what the original newsies would think of this. I mean just imagine the ones from 1899 watching this and thinking ‘I don’t think we ever did this much singing and dancing.’

And now to take a moment for the 92sies who did not make it into Livesies: Snipeshooter, Boots, Bumlets, PieEater, Snoddy, Itey, Snitch, Swifty, Jake, Dutchy, Skittery, Snaps, Tumbler, and Flipper. They will be missed. Instead they will be replaced by new newsies that are far more stupid and annoying, but on the bright side are very good dancers. 😔

I feel like 92sies isn’t talked about as much because it’s more dated and not as recent. When people mention that current stars like Ben Cook are in Livesies then everyone talks about it like it’s the best thing since sliced bread. But when people say Christian Bale is in 92sies then they just say ‘oh yeah, he’s Batman’ and just leave it at that. Just because 92sies doesn’t have the A+ Broadway dancing doesn’t mean it’s not a good musical,

Countdown To Christmas Day 12- Bug Fables Vi

I’ve pictured Vi as a secret santa to all of the children in the Ant Kingdom City while using her move “Secret Stash” to pull out her secret stash of toys instead of healing items like she always does. (Secretly Kabbu’s influence must’ve been rubbing off on her, but good luck getting her to admit it Lol.)

So I wanted to draw her up a Santa outfit but still reflects her tomboy personality, along with drawing up a snowy background with moon, stars, and mountains to make it more Christmasy. (I’ve included both art pieces with and without the 90’s anime filter in case if the art is too blurry to anyone.)

I have to say that this was a fun art challenge @sundove88 Merry Christmas! 😊

*oop almost forgot to post* -BUUUT, looks like HB's second-half of S1's finale is finally here! 👀Lets talk about it~

Spoiler thoughts below for those who haven't seen it-

The Positives:

-The background & Gluttony ring setting were pretty gorgeous to look at, wonderfully sickly sweet & inviting with all the honeycomb/beehive aesthetics~

-Kudos to Kesha making a stellar guest appearance as "Queen Bee(-lzebub)"; a charismatic and charming party girl who turned out to have more of a heart when it all came down to it (making sure everyone was well-fed, nudging Loona to go look after Blitz, her tender side to Tex, etc.), what a vibe~ 😊

-Loona gets to shine again in a speaking role, and this time wasn't too overly-moody/aggressive, but more anxious and unsure of how to make friends with all these wild party guests (which I'm sure anyone could relate to, in some degree 🥺). Even getting to see her acknowledging more of Blitz as her dad was a nice touch (for the time being at least) ^^

-Nice to see Blitz arrive as he could to help out Loonie, even after he already had a stressful night from "Ozzie's" (+drank himself silly at Bee's party), his daughter's presence being there for him in the darkest parts of his life is what matters most, aww~ ☺️

-Tex gets to return as the best wolf bro that he is, and his lil moments with his girlfriend Bee (while arguably a bit overdone with the “royalty x commoner” theme, given some other HB pairs we got atm-) were still pretty wholesome on their own too~ 💛

The Negatives:

-As sweet as it was to see more of Loona's softer/vulnerable side (especially when tending to her dad at the end)... idk, it just makes me all the more crushed at how "Seeing Stars" just threw away that potential development out the window, so her & Blitz actually get along for once here isn't meant to "mean" anything in the long run… 😔*sighs*

-Pacing felt a teeeensy bit rushed/unfinished in some parts... like on one hand you have Bee's song running for a good chunk of time (like a standard iTunes single), but stuff like Loona's anxiety/rivalry with those snobby dogs at the party wasn't really addressed afterwards once Blitz entered the picture (opting instead for filler of him drinking/fooling around while Loona's just... kinda "there", up until they go home)? Idk, I kinda get in-hindsight why Viv had to make this a shorter ep, but in this sense I feel like just a few more mins added could've really enhanced the story a lil better.

-While the tonal shifts weren't... too clunkily-handled compared to some of S2's lineup, I'll admit there's some parts that could've used a bit of tweaking in the emotional bits imo (Like Blitz just abruptly throwing up after moping about his love life... while funny initially, it still makes one wonder if it really "needed" to be there, yknow?)

-Enjoyably catchy as a classic lil callback to the early 2000s!era of pop/clubbing music… after a few listens. "Cotton Candy" does feel a lil too long/repetitive in a couple parts, I'll admit .w.; Which… probably was the intention now that I think about it ('cause yknow, Gluttony-) buuuut, ye lol

-As much as I enjoyed seeing Tex & his friendship with Loona again... ehhhh, with her lowkey still seeming to have a crush on him (+her implied jealousy at Bee), I'm a bit afraid this might lead to some unnecessary love triangle bs if not handled carefully .x.; Since we already got enough of that with Blitz' love life atm, we really don't need more melodrama tbh >>

-Finally... yeaaaaah I know this is already getting kinda "debated" enough already in the fandom, but as far as my thoughts on Bee's design goes? ...Kiiiiiinda don't really know what to think still tbh- ^^;;

Like, okay there's parts I do genuinely love about it, like the bee-theming, the honey hair & lava lamp aesthetic (+the lowkey-callback to the "Die Young" wolf girl was a cute touch)... buuuuut then you get to the random canine-bod/blue tuft of hair that the design just loses me from there, I'm afraid glkjgk .w.;;

Again, I don't hate the canon Bee design overall, and I'm curious to see if she'll make any other reappearances down the line (even if they might need to recast her for budget issues like w/ Striker)... buuut idk, if I had to personally reimagine her myself I'd personally lean more to her being a cute bee demon imho .3.

-Aaaaand yeah, that about covers it for my thoughts regarding this ep! :> I'd say overall I'd give it.... hmm, a B-rank perhaps? (hehe bee pun-) .3. A lil heavy on the filler in some parts (and in the long run could arguably be one of the more "skippable" eps), but for what its worth it had some good vibing moments for me as a palate-cleanser to some of the "lesser" S2 eps, previously ^^ 👍

continuing on IMMEDIATELY from my last ILMT thing

here are some of my scanned sketches, which i very messily lined over (something something "its my art style!") which i wanted to include in my work as a sort of collage with the some more ephemera i had from the shopping complex.

some ephemera: candy wrappings (they're SUAR good...) + a poster off the wall that hadn't been taken off properly

(my ~expanded~ idea around my typography before & after adding some of my scanned sketches in the background - i really liked how this drawing turned out! ^^)

thoughts on ephemera collaging - i love thinking ❤️

several scans of my work with & without the ephemera included - this picture goes crazy dont it. i wanted to do collaging because i have always liked the texture that collaged imagery has 😊

as part of the aim of this project, i did some printing YAYYYYYYYY !!!! i really enjoyed monoprinting but since it was my first time, i made some mistakes which ended up giving me some super messy results (a friend in yr3 stopped by and told me it was probably because i forgot to blot away excess ink - of course i did 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂)

my scanned monoprint outcomes - i LOVE the one on the right; i think the colour combinations are very effective. on these i did try to add my drawings but because of my errors they are way too noisy to make anything out. to save myself the trouble i just left them as they are.

for an alternative outcome, i also did some linocut printing too. (from home, my bedroom this time so my cat is here too. bro sleeping like he spent hours hunched over carving letters into rubber just for the print to come out backwards - crazy.)

here are my linocut outcomes! on the right is my first result, a very very cruel realisation that i did EVERYTHING wrong ⚰️but i did lke the effect. in the centre is a very scruffy transfer print that i made with the tracing paper (left) i used as a guide for the typography. i really like the effect of the overlapping results but i wasnt sure what i could do with it with the time i had (not much !! lmfao !!!!)

this is the scanned result of my original linocut - which was backwards; i flipped it in photoshop. was project would have been awesome if i didnt miss that one printmaking induction - everything went downhill from there im being so serious😓

What's something you'd like to create content for? I literally started watching Octonauts just to find out a character’s name so I could look up references for her, because she was so cute that I really wanted to draw her… and then I never did XD Still wanna do that someday… technically I did draw a nameless character from the show once but hey :p It’s actually really good as far as preschool shows go, even I’ve learned stuff from it :D

What's something you're currently obsessed with? At the moment, Neko Atsume has been on my mind… that college AU I played around with back in the day is swirling around in my head again XD Lots of fun stuff you can do with that… it’s a cute and simple game, and the little bits of backstory we have leave plenty of room to expand upon :)

I finally started getting back into my first fandom, enjoying full-on brainrot for the first time in YEARS… I was even excited for a little fandom anniversary that I used to celebrate, I hadn’t been excited about it in a LONG time and I was really happy about that, I had plans and everything 🥺💕💕 I had so much excitement I wanted to share, I made the mistake of trying to reconnect with the fandom again… and it instantly killed all my enthusiasm, seeing that some corners of it weren’t quite as welcoming as I thought and that most people don’t even like the thing I was celebrating anymore, so I’d be pretty alone in my excitement anyway… and I couldn’t get back my excitement in time to celebrate the anniversary, so it just passed by without any of my plans happening 😔 I just hope I can get back my love for the thing eventually, and that it doesn’t take literal years like last time…

What's a hidden talent of yours? I can say the alphabet backwards XD It’s all thanks to a beloved toy of mine from when I was little… I can still hear it in his voice to this day :’D

The Writing Revolution...I can't in good conscience recommend it unless you also happen to find yourself as a teacher trying to capture teenagers' imaginations and get them to produce complete sentences! Hahahaha. Miserable toil.

Ooh, this one's easy--The Little Mermaid!! I have seen it with my family twice and then with my friends once. (I felt a little freer to lust after Prince Eric when my husband and two children weren't sitting there with me...)

These days, some form of athleisure. During the school year, I've been told my teacher style is "Jessica Day if she didn't care so much" and...that about sums it up.

Absolutely not. I wanted to be a lawyer my entire life. My undergrad was pre-law and then life had other plans for me and now I'm teaching 8th grade American History. And LOVING IT. I start grad school in the fall and I'll be getting my Principal's Certification with that, so I suppose I'm in this education world for the long haul.

I'm fairly good with piano and singing. I'm terrible at cooking.

The weather recently! It was supposed to rain the past couple weeks and we've not gotten much more than a few minutes of sprinkling. I looooove rainy days, so that's bummed me out quite a bit.

Alex’s Christmas Sleepover 2021 [CLOSED]

Heyyyyyy, guys!! I decided to do a little sleepover type thingggg. This will be my first one ever, so I’m really excited for it!!

So, here’s how things will go. Below, I’ll have listed the characters that I’m currently comfortable writing for, as well as different symbols relating to christmas and whatnot. You get to choose if you want a moodboard, story, or both, as well as what character or characters you’d like in it. If you want a story, you get to choose what type of story (smut, angst, fluff, comfort, etc. as well as any combinations) as well as if you’d like a shorter story (Around 500-1,500 words) or a longer story (Around 1,500-3,000). Billboard Osaka！！〜It was all delicious〜

Everyone, something happened! Seven buds were growing out of my Queen of the Night at the same time 😂😂 Too much at once!! To think that such a thing actually exists, I can’t believe it... When this happened, I was just writing this blog post while listening to music, something I rarely do to be honest. Either way, when I noticed all those buds coming out a song was playing in the background where a male voice was suddenly singing the word "Unbelievable ~ !!" I couldn’t help but laugh 🤣🤣 That's right. 🤣🤣 Such perfect timing with the lyrics. I wonder how many of these baby buds will start to bloom ~ 🥰 When all of them are blooming it will indeed be "Unbelievable ~ !!"~ 🥰

Wow, how is it already November? ... Sorry it’s been such a long time since my last post 😭 I would like to reflect and talk about my Billboard Live Osaka on October 23! It’s been a while since I have performed at Billboard Osaka (the other day I actually mentioned that I had never been there but turns out I was wrong!! The second I got there all memories came back to me).

We had an alcoholic cocktail available that day so I think many of you might have enjoyed a nice drink outside for the first time in a long while (* ⁰▿⁰ *). The mini rose is so beautiful ... I don't drink any alcohol before my performances so I wanted to try it after the live. Unfortunately my drink had already been prepared for me so when I finally got to drink it, the ice had already melted so the cocktail was pretty diluated...: (´ ཀ `” ∠): 

For the other cocktail I'm glad that we got to put cute little star-shaped chocolates in it!!! I also took a sip from this non-alcoholic cafe cocktail after the live but as expected, it tasted quite diluted due to the ice melting ... / (^ o ^) \ I will be sure to get a proper taste in Yokohama!!!!!

And here is what I had for dinner, it was insanely delicious ... 😳💕 (I'm sorry but this picture doesn’t reflect the deliciousness properly 😂 There was a bit of cauliflower in the upper right corner but I had already eaten it before I remembered to take a picture *laughs*). I still remember having to choose between salmon, hamburger steak, and beef fillet. Almost immediately I shouted, "meat!! I need to have some meat!!", so yeah, that’s how I ended up picking the beef fillet!!! The pilaf, chicken, potatoes and salad were were all super delicious ... ♪ (´θ ｀) ノ On a side note, I had a soup full of vegetables before the night performance, it was also really delicious!!! Sorry, I have been talking a lot about food *laughs I was just very happy to see that everyone in the audience seemed to be able to relax that day while enjoying yummy drinks and meals (* ^ _ ^ *)

Billboard Lives are truly the best way to enjoy music in a relaxed atmosphere. Whenever I have watched online lives in the past year I would always prepare my favourite drinks, food and snacks to watch it, there is really no better way to enjoy a live (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵)

The band members were really great and I got to experience a unique sound that was completely different from the time of the rehearsal (((o (* ﾟ ▽ ﾟ *)). ) o))) Doing a live with an acoustic band is a lot of fun!!! This year, I got the chance to sing being accompanied with all sorts of musical instruments, these were great learning experiences which made me reflect on my vocals.

Thank you to everyone who came to the day and night performance in Osaka!!! There are still another two performance in Yokohama coming up on November 13 so I can’t share any details or pictures... 😖💦I still wanted to post at least something on the blog so here is a blurred picture. Trying my best to avoid spoilers here 🤣🤣I hope you can still get an idea of the atmosphere 😊 I can’t wait to meet you all at Billboard Yokohama too!!! ･: * +. \ ((�� ω °)) /.:+

Currently I am in the midst of preparing for that while also being busy getting ready for my upcoming event "Wakana Birthday Classic ~ Happy Hello Day ~" on December 10. So every day I go back and forth between November and December, it’s starting to get a bit confusing. 1. How many books is too many in a series?

It really depends on the series I think but I think more than 6 is starting to push it. Personally I’m a huge fan of duologies.

2. How do you feel about cliffhangers?

On one hand I hate them because cliffhangers but when done well it gets me excited for the next book.

3. Hardback or paperback?

Paperback for sure! I do buy hardcovers occasionally if I really can’t wait/ want to support the author with a preorder but I definitely prefer paperbacks, they’re so much nice to read.

4. Favourite book?

What kind of a question is this?! That’s such a hard one to answer. A few of my favourites include: The Wicker King by K. Ancrum, A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab, Circe & The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller and The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid.

I have plenty more favourites but I do have things to do today

5. Least favourite book?

That’s also kinda of hard because I tend to just not bother if I don’t like a book. But my least favourite I’ve read recently was The Cruel Prince. I mean I still gave it three stars because it was atmospheric and the world was cool but I could not for the life of me get how people shipped Jules and Cardan. He straight up was like ‘I like you and I hate that which is why I treat you shitty’ and I was like you can fuck right off.

6. Love triangles, yes or no?

Generally no. It won’t stop me reading a book but I’m over the ‘two mediocre and borderline abusive white guys posture for the heroine’ kind of love triangles.

7. The most recent book you just couldn’t finish?

The Miseducation of Cameron Post. It’s a good book and Danforth is a great writer but it just wasn’t for me. At 450 odd pages it’s longer than some epic fantasies I’ve read and I just found myself losing interest.

8. A book you’re currently reading?

Furyborn by Claire Legrand, which I am enjoying immensely!

9. Last book you recommended to someone?

Pretty sure it was The Wicker King by K. Ancrum (seriously read it!)

10. Oldest book you’ve read?

When I get around to reading The Picture of Dorian Grey it will have been that but that aside, probably Tomorrow, When the War Began which was published in 1994 (so really not that old).

11. Newest book you’ve read?

The most recent one I’ve finished was Social Intercourse by Greg Howard which was published two days ago!

12. Favourite author?

V.E. Scwab, C.S. Pacat, Trudi Canavan, Madeline Miller, Roan Parrish, Anthony Ryan.

13. Buying books or borrowing?

Both! (That said I am in a position to do both and I think the book community needs to get better about recognising and talking about the privilege and financial barriers that exclude people for not being about to do book hauls/fancy photos/arcs etc)

14. A book you dislike that everyone else seems to love?

Illuminae by Jay Kristoff  and Amie Kaufman. I borrowed it from the library because lots of people were talking about it but I tried a few pages and really couldn’t get into the format.

15. Bookmarks or dog ears?

Bookmarks! Each to their own but I hate folding the pages

16. A book you’ll always reread?

Captive Prince, In the Middle of Somewhere, The Magicians Guild, A Darker Shade of Magic.

17. Can you read while listening to music?

I used to be able to but these days I can’t concentrate on the book if there’s background noise.

18. One POV or multiple POVs?

I like multiple POVs if it’s done well! Godblind by Anna Stephens has at least six and it is seamless and so well done it only adds to the book.

19. Do you read a book in one sitting or over multiple days?

I’ve done both, it really just depends on the book and how much I am enjoying it and how much time I have on my hands.

20. A book you read because of the cover?

Iron Cast by Destiny Soria. Seriously, it’s such a beautiful book (both inside and out!)
