1. Vampirism as a Condition

Its finally here folks, My long awaited and long Text attempt at writing up something I've promised for a little while

This will be based on more personal experience and the experience of a primarily sanguine Vampyre, there may be a few mentions of other feeding methods here and there

(as far as I know) There is a word limit so I shall try to cram as much in as possible here!

Feeding:

Yes we drink blood, or at least the Sanguinarians and Medsangs do, some feed on energy, some feed on both and much more.

There is a genuine Need when it comes to "IRL" vampirism, sure it won't kill us but it makes it incredibly hard to function properly sometimes and the symptoms can be intense.

Now the symptoms are different from vampyre to vampyre so I can't give an exact list...

What Causes Vampirism:

It has yet to be proven but the general agreed on consensus here is that for some unknown reason A vampyres body either fails to or cannot produce a specific thing it needs well on its own, for Sanguinarians my guess is Something in heme iron is what gives them what they need and as heme often equates to blood, its the most logical thing to consume and also gives us the most of this energy that we need, for psychic vampires it's theorised something in prana (aka a person's life force) is what gives them the energy they need.

Despite what some "Fluffier" sources may tell You, this is not parasitic behaviour, we are not to be shunned/feared/ to be constantly protected from! more often than not the Vampyre and Thier Feeding partners/ Donors can come to a symbiotic agreement! Though many who can detect our energy signature do have some form of stigma or are otherwise unnerved around us.

it is also theorised that vampires suffer a damaged solar plexus and thus cannot adequately hold on to or break down the energy they need well themselves due to this.

Vampirism is not thought to be genetic nor can someone be "turned" in the sense you may be thinking, there is however something known as the awakening.

The Awakening:

Despite what you may be thinking The Awakening is not a 100% sudden occurrence! Sometimes it takes the individual Vampyre several "mini awakenings" before the true realisation/ finally ignoring the doubt happens and the confirmation and learning process can begin proper.

The Awakening itself is hard to describe to non vampiric, but is often explained as some form of realisation or coming into ones own, generally around or just after puberty (some can be much earlier and some can be much much later) where the individual realises that they need said energy source to remain "fit and healthy" in a sense, an unawakened Vampyre or Vampyre coming into thier awakening is often called a "latent".

Usually, being around other vampyres is said to be the catalyst that leads to an awakening, however in some cases, be it lack of vampyres in an individuals area or other external factors, this is not entirely needed. And some vampyres can awaken solely on their own, this is said to be a slower process however...

Are Vampyres Spiritual:

Many of us are, yes but not all of us, first and foremost, Vampirism is not a religion!

Ones vampirism can be incorporated into spiritual practice or Those who are not vampyres but have weak energy systems, can still practice vampirism and are willing to do so spiritually!

Many but not all vampyres are attracted to Predatory spirituality at some point in there lives, vampyres are more instinctual, after all but not all vampyres do this, some are pagan or wiccan, some are Buddhist, etc etc some aren't even spiritual at all!

Common misconceptions:

-We have reflections, can be filmed and have our pictures taken

-we do not set on fire or burn to ash in sunlight, hower some of us do suffer heatstroke more easily or are more prone to sunburn and eye strain in strong sunlight

-Stakes to the heart will kill us, but they'll kill pretty much anything

-Religious symbols and other holy items do not bother us, however there is a theory that faith can bother some of us, but that is just a theory, we do not spontaneously combust on church ground

-we can mostly wear silver and eat garlic, allergies do exist though

-we are not immortal and live and die as you do

-we can get sick, we are not living corpses despite the fact we may look "dead" sometimes (I am not a morning person lol)

-we do not have Supernatural superpowers, however some of us do have well developed clair senses

-we are chill with "werewolves"

-Animals do not hate us more than anyone else, however there is a theory some animals are sensitive to odd energy signatures so may behave a little strange in our presence (prolonged eye contact, overly friendly etc)

-we can cross running water (if it's shallow or we can swim lol)

-we can enter places uninvited but it's common courtesy and manners to be invited in anyway

-many of us do not "bite", let alone hard enough to puncture skin, we are still biologically human and bites can and often will cause infections, rather we use sterile tools should we need blood or substitutes

-we do not die without the ingestion of blood/ prana etc, we can also eat human food

-we don't all "get off" on blood, though some of us vamps can have a fetish for blood, fangs or biting, we're biologically human after all and there's no harm in it!

-we look just like any other human and no we don't sparkle (unless we use body glitter or something)

Who is smallest and biggest character in your story? And how strong they are compared to thier size?

Lucky for you, I DO have a hight chart that I made not that long ago to try and keep track of who's what, and I'm more than happy to go down the list with you!

The smallest Mon we have is little Jasper, the shadow shiny mew. He stands at a small 1`2", he isn't able to grow any bigger due to the synergy stones all over him. He's fairly weak compared to the average mew, but the stones do help enhance his power levels in a pinch if absolutely necessary.

Above that there's Keith the shiny Eevee at 1`3", in the manga Red is seen to have an Eevee that can evolve and devolve at will as a rescues rocket experiment. I like to think that wasn't the only evolution experiment they were doing.

Base at 2`6", she's one of the first Mew's to mewtate from Origins fur, later traveling with Celebi to a distant future to have her itty baby Jasper.

Mint at 3`11", he's feral for a Eeveelution, found eating the ramains in the back bin of the rocket headquarters. He was adopted by the Rocket members and became head lab assistant since then, as his more feral behaviour is beneficial for their goals.

Desmond at 5`3", the champion's Gallade. He spends his days and nights training in the woods and his scars were actually caused by Fernandes.

Edward at 5`8", Deoxys are extremely social creatures and when it comes to shines, they are leaders of thoes packs. Edward was the leader of a whole colony of Deoxys before they got too close to the earth and was attacked by not only mega Rayquaza, but also Origin herself. Edward can't fight like he used to and is physically frail because of his damage, and if he goes above his limit his body is forcibally retreat back inside his core for safety.

Urain Mewtwo at 6`2", after the events of the comic I won't spoil, a large chunck of Urain's hight was lost in the modifications process at team plazma, as team rocket needed help with resource management. Plazma, the shiny Genesect, is the reason Urain was able to get free.

Fernandes at 6`3", you do not want to be in the same room with this H!Zoroark, he attacks first and asks questions later. He was forced to learn how to speak English as well as standing up straight like a human. His power lies in his perfect illusions.

Mino between 7`-9`, Mino, or Missingno, is a conglomeration of fossil pokemon bones, a dragonite skull, and the legs of a stone Aerodactyl, simply because he wanted working feet to grab at things. Mino cares deeply for the earth and his mate, however they are also rather aggressive when it comes to strangers. Mino does travel with a human from time to time to learn how they tick.

Urain Origin mew at 7`4", as an Origin mew, Urain isn't as tall as her mother as they were born under the pressure of the earth and within an atmosphere. She, herself, will go on to create a few legendary across the earth before the incident, that lead to the becoming a Mewtwo.

Rosemary scolipede at 9`2", Rosemary is able to adjust her size if needed, taking the form of a simple scolipede if she ever needs to travel down her volcano to deal with something. This is her most versatile and athletic form, more speedy the powerful.

Origin at 10`3", as Giratina's twin, she's not that big in comparison, but she's still a god. The pokemon of matter, in fact. Origin is incredibly powerful thanks to her versatility with the ability multybility, that allows her to change her ability to something better suited for the situation... Like Primal Seas.

True size Rosemary at 82`11 to max of 400`, her true size sinks rather deep into the volcano she lives in, and this true size of hers will constantly produce the poison from holes in her body that resemble the female symble glitch patten.

Demo at ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿, biblically accurate angels don't often have a observable size. Decamark, being what was left behind from the hatching of Gaia's egg, they are the true creator of the universe.

In general, Rosemary's true hight is the biggest but not the strongest, while Origin would physically be the strongest.

Joshua that number I left for my past EMDR therapist is the only way I've gotten in touch with her. I did request my records, she said she'd send them. They weren't delivered ever. I really really do want to get my files from her I am entitled to a copy via state law. It contains a fuck ton about me that I really feel will help because the sheer amount of traumas to bring up again is going to jar me trying to list em out. I feel like it'll definitely assist you on my treatment plan greatly because we did A LOT.

I assume that there's a place files of this nature are supposed to go?

I assume you would know who to call to help me secure them? Or perhaps we could find out. Even if you don't want to use them...I would very much like a copy of her files on me.

I can sign paperwork for you next session for you to get my files if I haven't and idk who else you'd like to talk to or option to chat with other than psychiatrist and primary care but I'll sign documents with them.

I think she still has a profile on psychology today and email...but the text number I left has been my only way to catch her...

I don't want to be nasty but if she can't produce my files I will call a lawyer. Because yes they'll be great for therapy but I asked a while back.

Also fuck Robyn. I got so much "feedback" to say about her. She takes literal young men and women who are struggling and honestly I see those patients struggling more with thier gender identity and transitioning. I don't think she's safe for LGBTQA+ folks. That's imo something that should be between a psychiatrist and endo foremost before hitting therapy. Like ive spoken to mine about it and we have different views but now that I have I can open up abt that. Like she invited a client to her home. I feel she pushed a bi male into transitioning and imo the trans ppl I know are happy and she doesn't seem happy now at all. She told me to break up with my now ex and treated me like a liar and literally sessions with her felt like interrogation and SUPER judgy and she was VERY FAKE with my parents who were ofc putting on a show for her.

I cannot begin to explain how well my parents are at manipulating therapists and turning it into everything being on me and as soon as I say something in response or try to blow their cover it's WILD because the one thing they don't realize they do is thier facial expressions. They'll either over mask or forget to do it. They always trip up.

Mom likes to play victim and very clueless kind. Dad does this in a different manner, he's subject to get pissed and walk out or raise his voice unless he's gonna act right because you're not a woman.

The weirdest part of having been raised by these people. The way I've studied them since childhood to please them. They adapt and use therapy against me. They don't remember what they've said or done. They seem put out by me telling them "hey what you did was fuckin wrong and yeah I've brought it up before and you shut down and we never settled it" then they'll be like "you just love to hold grudges" etc... but it's not that. I'd like to process it all or what I can. The reason it comes up over and over is because it's not going into memories to be forgotten in my brain. It's just hanging out in the fuckin trauma bay. Like a packed ER.

I am open to whatever type of family therapy is beneficial. Often times my dad is nasty to my mom when she's calling or texting about me. I don't think she deserves any bullshit if she's just relaying a message.

Like they got divorced and still fight like idiot assholes.

She left and I had a fucked up back and was a stoner and kept to myself because my father treated me like a partner to abuse and daughter to control and there's a ton of emotional incest. Dad also talks to young ppl online and what I saw years ago looked like grooming behavior and poor pity me with women of age I hope but still younger than me. Probably because many older men try to influence young women and never emotionally mature correctly and actually accept their age. I remember him on dating sites complaining about how ugly certain women were whose profiles imo were quite lovely and impressive. He acts sorta like an incel.

My sister you'll probably see straight through. She's an actress.

I do want to see with a few sessions if it may be possible to salvage anything with any of them.

What's upsetting is that though I have a poor sense of self...they don't really know me or seem to want to know me.

My psychiatrist thinks it's due to me not being healthy and also that I'm not married and doing the "normal" thing so there's resentment.

Since NONE of them listen to anything I have to say because they're all under the impression I'm trying to control them based on well nothing other than I'm gonna guess THE PAST.

They think I'm frantic. They haven't really read anything about what I deal with. They don't listen to listen. They listen to reply and they cherry pick and twist things I say to mean things they don't.

I don't know how to have a conversation with any of them without them exploding. My dad and mom have literally put me on speaker and walked off and my sister idfk last time I tried to speak to her she was FADED and I hung up.

They all have excuses.

It hurts that they won't accept and educate themselves like my friends do. It's not hard.

My dad has told me to kill myself and to die and he's left me alone in the hospital after relieving my mom where I was then abused and left in a waiting room with a dead phone and no way to go pee for HOURS because my back was out.

This is not the first time I've been left alone in a hospital and abused.

People think I'm a hypochondriac but I just have a special interest in medical. I grew up in medical environments. Knowing as much as I can retain has kept me safe from further misdiagnosis and malpractice bullshit. I wish I could actually just gent sent to a mayo clinic or idk one of the big hospitals where they use diagnosticians and run you through the gambit.

I know it's not a thing unless ppl are very sick. I mean it was traumatic as a child to be put in NIH testing for a Dermatomyositis study. I don't remember meeting other kids. I just met Ted Kennedy one day while I was playing waiting on another test. It was scary being like 8 and seeing secret service fill a room and guard a door so he could have a photo with me. He did talk to me a ton and I really don't remember what he said. My parents were thrilled and I'm sure there's a cat piss stained picture somewhere.

Did you know that my sister and dad just threw a ton of my things away and donated or tossed most of my books. I had a massive bookshelf. Now it's covered with things that are mine and shit my sister used to make her room aesthetic without asking me.

It has always been hard to go home and get anything from her. I really just want to take everything that was or is mine. Things I gave her and things she stole.

I don't think she realizes I have 2yrs to file a report on the assault and I could take her to court for emotional distress too and probably more.

I've never gotten justice for any of the things that have happened to me.

I wish I could just send all thier asses to prison but they wouldn't survive.

They all think I won't do anything. That's been taunted at me.

I know a lot of cold reading is fueled by trauma. I don't like to cold read. I think people who sell cold reads etc are just very good at telling others what they want to hear...or they're so desperate they will truly take advice.

When I read things come through and there's this process. It's mind's eye where pictures and words come through. Then I just ask about what I see or deliver whatever messages. I was pushed out of a group that was threatened by my reading. They were threatened because they are frauds. If a message doesn't make sense for someone then I tell them to just take what makes sense. It's often like a crowded room when I read for people. It's been a while since I tried beyond simple shit. I've scared the crap out of friends holding thier hand and reading them. Because they never told me about the people I relayed messages. I didn't just guess. I opened myself up to it and flooded in.

Sometimes I want to get Reiki certification so I can just do that for ppl. I was told by a master that I was a natural energy worker. I was told by native shamans that I was a gatekeeper. My grandmothers had thier little superstitious practices.

This is the part you'll probably want to ask more about if I haven't talked abt it. I've exorcized a demonic or spiritual entity out of a person before. There's no way to prove it. I know what I saw and heard. I wasn't high.

It makes me wonder how many cases are actually supernatural and how many are actually just mental illness.

Also it's been driving me insane Joshua but I know you somehow outside of therapy. I do wonder if we've just been at the same place at the same time more than once and that's why I remember your face or if we have many mutual ppl. This is a big city small town so who knows. I think one reason ppl think me and Travis would be a pair is because he's just a really kind good person. This extends beyond me and to others he knows. His family really is picturesque. They are excellent people. He will make someone incredibly happy one day. I am really bothered by people passing him over. He's actually looking for a therapist. I wouldn't be bothered if any of my friends saw you as a patient. The whole "oh no we can't do therapy with people you know" thing imo is silly. People in this state all know each other to the point it's just goofy.

My partner called me all excited that he didn't have to work overnight. He called because he was going out and felt bad that he wouldn't get to chat with me and had planned on doing so and had been excited to do so. He actually said "I Love you" more than once and I told him to go have fun. Saying I Love you is difficult for him sometimes. Am I sad I'm not getting to talk to him? Yes. Am I happy he got out of a stressful work night to enjoy time with his buddies or other partner? Yes, why wouldn't I be? I do get sad that I can't be there but it's still better than half the mfers that are just overgrown fuckbois etc that don't even have the emotional maturity to call.

I'm gonna go smoke out, do smol bit of laundry in my travel laundry bucket thing, eat decent food, stay up to an asinine hour, and play Sims4.

Hopefully no dumb bullshit occurs.

I'm sorry, I just could never make myself write anything like I can with Lilith Rebellion and I don't feel good about "filing off the serial numbers" and trying to publish it as original fiction. It was always meant as a direct criticism of dl (plus a ton of other tropes, emotionless fighting female character one included), and it was always written specifically for Yui.

And as much as I joke about taking over Rejet, I know it won't happen. Getting hired is out of the question. I don't trust them with Amaya. I know they'll butcher her character to fit thier mold and I refuse. Buying them out is even more unfeasible and who would listen to someone forcibly changing your entire business model?

I'll still write fic though! Just because it's free hobby fanfic and not officially published doesn't mean it's not content that I created!👍

Canon is subjective anyway so you're the one who gets to decide what that is in your own heart. I literally wrote an entire essay on this for a university class once, I am not kidding. The professor loved it.

Although, I actually did work on an actual otome game once! It's not out yet, but I'm still good friends with the producer of Tokyo Debunker. I won't spoil the story or anything, but it was freaking amazing and I 110% recommend it when it actually gets released.

As for wlw dating sims, I don't really have time for games anymore because of fic writing, so I haven't really played these. But Heart of the Woods looks good from the parts I saw on YouTube (and the art is super cute). I also saw one called Oshirabu: waifus over husbandos which sounded hilarious. And there was also A Summer's End which I was interested in because my parents are from Hong Kong so the idea of a Yuri with my family background sounded cool.

MAY Manga Reads

This is a concise list this time around, but that's not a bad thing. We got some gems here.

The Promised Neverland-Kaiu Shirai

Let me just get this out of the way and then never mention it again. READ THE MANGA, DON'T WATCH THE ANIME (at least the second season)!

Okay, now then, The Promised Neverland. The world Shirai managed to create is horrifying, magical, and dripping in lore. And I think this story really shook up the shonen genre, at least in relation to the "Shonen Jump" magazine.

I'm honestly shocked with how dark, sometimes violent, modern Shonen Jump stories can be. And I think in part The Promise Neverland had a hand in that. This is not a bad thing, in fact, it serves the series themes you would expect.

The story revolves around a group of children living in an orphanage. Although they have no parents, their life is not lacking. They have the best food, an excellent education, deep bonds between siblings, and a loving mother figure that cares for them.

Thier world shatterers when they discover everything is a lie. That they live in a world ruled by Demons, and they are being raised as food for them! Now they need to discover a way to escape, conceal their knowledge from their mother, and figure out a way for every child to leave at once!

As you can imagine, demons, children in peril, and high stake situations can produce disturbing images. If you can get past that, you'll find a thrilling mystery. a group of lovable characters and a rollercoaster of events.

Takopi's Original Sin-Book by Taizan 5

*TRIGGER WARNING* For those who are sensitive to suicidal themes, disturbing images involving children, child neglect, and bullying, you have been warned.

I thought I was prepared when going into Takopi's Original Sin, but it still managed to shock me in many ways. The Manga is only 16 chapters long, and you can read it for free on the Shueisha Manga Plus app.

Since the story is so short and the big reveal happens in the beginning, I will describe it as generally as possible. Because it's definitely worth a read, and if you are interested, the less you know the better.

Takopi is an alien from a happy society whose purpose is to go across the universe to spread happiness. He is assigned to planet Earth equipped with "tools of happiness" to help the inhabitants. One day, Takopi meets a little girl who never smiles. He makes it his mission to bring a smile to her. However, Tokapi is unprepared for the cureluity, and complexity of humanity.

It's a heartbreaking story, but damn, it's definitely worth a read.

Show-ha shoten-Takeshi Obata

From the same creator as Death Note, and Bakuman, comes a very odd but intriguing story.

The Manga follows two high school boys who want to become professional comedians. They team up and aim for a cutthroat competition to get their name out there.

Though the premise is straightforward, and I tend to like simple plots, I'm not sure I'm knowledgeable enough to appreciate Japanese humor.

Let me elaborate. It's a technical series that explores the skills and practices on how to construct a joke. That, I like and find very cool to read. What the characters end up making as material seems to be specific to Japanese humor. Either that or I'm just dumb and can't take a joke.

Either way, I'm worried about the legevity of the series due to it being so niche. I hope it continues because it's a refreshing manga that shines a light on the skill involved to be a comedian.

Puppetry Lost Media

In honour of reaching 50 followers last week (now 55 followers, as of writing this) I decided to cover two subjects of great interest to me: puppetry (of course) and lost media.

Everybody online loves a good old bit of lost media. Whether it be being a part of the many searches for the media in question, or watching documentaries about them on sites like YouTube. I’ve been mildly addicted to the latter kind of content for a while. From what I’ve seen, though, there aren’t many videos or articles out there specifically covering lost puppetry. So, in no particular order, here are a couple of pieces of lost puppetry I found while scrolling through the lost media wiki.

銀河少年隊 - Ginga shounen-tai AKA Galaxy Boy Troop (1963 - 1965)

Osamu Tezuka is one of the most pioneering figures in Japanese art and animation. Starting as a manga artist in the 1940s inspired by the animated works of American studios such as Walt Disney and the Fliecer Brothers, he adapted and simplified many of the stylistic techniques of both artists to create his own signature style of big shiny eyes, physics defying hair and limited animation. A style that would go on to heavily influence the world of anime and manga as a whole.

But animation and graphic art were not the only mediums Tezuka would dabble in. Ginga Shounen-Tai, or Galaxy Boy Troop in english, was a television series that aired on the public broadcast channel NHK from April 7th, 1963 to April 1st, 1965. Running for 2 seasons with a total of 92 episodes.

The series was a mixture of marionette characters that utilised the Supermarionation marionette technique, popularised by Jerry Anderson’s Thunderbirds, and limited traditional animation. The story revolves around a child genius named Roy who leads a rag-tag group of heros around the galaxy in a rocket ship in order to revive the earth’s sun and later protect it from alien invaders.

Out of the 92 episodes that aired, only episode 67 still exists in its entirety with French subtitles, and the full episode can be found on YouTube with English subtitles uploaded by user Rare TezukaVids. According to user F-Man on the Tezuka in English forums, footage of episode 28 exists but with no audio, and episode 87’s animated segments exist without the marionette segments. F-Man also claims the reason for Galaxy Boy Troop’s disappearance is due to Tezuka not being proud of the series and having all episodes of it destroyed.

Personally, I think it’s a shame that pretty much all of this series is gone. From what I’ve seen in episode 67, it looks really charming. Tezuka’s signature character design style was adapted suprisingly well to marionettes, and the puppetry itself isn’t that bad either. I love the little face mechanisms like the blinking eyes, flapping mouths and others. It gives the puppets a lot of personality and charm. Tinseltown (2007)

Tinseltown was a 15 minute sitcom pilot created by the Jim Henson company under thier Henson Alternative banner. The pilot was commissioned by the Logo Network and aired as part of the Alien Boot Camp programming block in 2007.

The pilot (and likely the series, had it been picked up by the logo network) features a cast of both puppets and live actors as characters. The premise revolves around Samson Kight, an anthropomorphic bull preformed by Brian Henson and drew Massey, and his partner Bobby Vegan, an anthropomorphic pig prefomed by Bill Barretta and Michelan Sisti, as they attempt to balance thier lives working in Hollywood with life as parents to thier sullen 12-year-old foster son, Foster, played by Paul Butcher. Other human characters included Mia Sara as Samson’s ex-wife Lena and Francesco Quinn as the family’s manservant Arturo.

The Tinseltown pilot used to be available on the Logo Network’s YouTube channel, but was later removed for unknown reason. Since then, the pilot has not been made available online. However the characters Samson and Bobby have made appearances in other Henson related works, such as the improv stage show Stuffed and Unstrung, where they played the role as the shows producers, and in a 2011 video on the Jim Henson Company YouTube channel celebrating Jim Hensons 75th birthday.

I find Tinseltown pretty interesting as I feel like it should be more noateable or known, considering that this is (as far as my knowledge goes) the first Jim Henson Company project featureing openly lgbtq characters as its leads, and would have been the first Henson show to do so had it been picked up. As someone who’s interested in lgbtq+ representation in creative media such as animation, I realised that there’s not many examples of canon lgbt characters in puppetry. The only ones aside from Samson and Bobby I could think off the top of my head would be Deet’s Dads from The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance and Rod from Avenue Q. Though, obviously, there could be more I’m not currently aware of. I don’t think the Tinseltown pilot was a masterpiece or anything. After all, there’s probably a couple of good reasons Logo didn’t pick it up for a full series. But I think it be cool if either Henson co. or Logo made this available online again, if just so we could appericate it as an interesting little footnote in the history of lgbtq rep in puppetry.

With that said, considering the pilot’s obscurity and the fact that it’s main couple haven’t been used in any Henson Related projects in almost ten years, as well as the possibility that there may be legalities preventing the Henson company from releasing it such as Logo still owning the rights, it’s unlikely we’ll see the Tinseltown pilot anytime soon.

Sonic Live in Sydney (1997 - 2000)

Sonic the Hedgehog is a fictional character no stranger to multiple interpretations of him and his universe across a diverse range of media. From the more light-hearted and comedic stylings of The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and Cartoon Networks Sonic Boom cartoon series, to more serious faire such as the Sonic SatAM cartoon and the Sonic Adventure videogame duology. One of the more obscure and stranger adaptations of the character came in the form of Sonic Live in Sydney, a one an a half hour live show hosted at the former Sega World Sydney amusement park in Darling Harbor, Sydney, Australia. Originally beginning as a live show with actors in meet-and-greet style costumes, the show eventually was replaced with a puppet show during its last two years.

The shows plot was set in an alternate timeline whos continuity was a mix of the SatAM cartoon and Sonic the Hedgehog 3, where Doctor Robotnik’s Death Egg crash lands in Sydney, Australia instead of Angel Island and attempts to take over before being foiled by sonic and friends. According to Phillip Einfeld of Phillip Einfeld Puppetoons, the company that made the puppets, Sega felt the costumed actor version of the show wasn’t dynamic enough, and wished to replace it with a version featuring live puppets with animatronics. Both versions of the shows plot are identical.

While Sonic Live in Sydney’s soundtrack is available on YouTube, and some photos of the show are available on the Lost Media Wiki, no footage of either the costumed actors version or the puppet show version have resurfaced. The show was closed down in 1999, possibly due to cost, shortly before the Sega World park as a whole in 2000. So unless there is someone out there who viseted the show between 1998 or 1999 who recorded the show via a handheld camera, footage of both incarnations of the show are likely forever lost to time.

On a personal note, I don’t have much to say on this one other than how gloriously peek gaudy 90s Sonic the set/puppet design is. I have no doubt finding footage of these puppets in action would truly be a silly delight to behold...

Legend of Mary (year unknown)

This one is a little different from the other entries on this list as while the film itself in its entiraty is available on YouTube for anyone to view, the information surrounding Legend of Mary, specifically its year of release, remains a mystery as of writing this.

I have mentioned the film before on this blog so I’ll keep it brief here: in summary, Legend of Mary is a short film retelling of the Nativity featuring the Rod puppets of Austrian puppeteer Richard Teschner. the video was uploaded to YouTube by user canada 150 archive. I looked up the people credited in the film and was able to find most of them, but didn’t find Legend of Mary listed in thier credits, and was unable to find the film on sites like IMDB, tMDB or Letterboxd. I reached out to Canada 150 archive asking if they had any info regarding the Legend of Mary’s release date, and after a coupe of months, they replied saying they didn’t know.

And that’s as far as I got on my search for answers, if anyone of you guys has any information regarding Legend of Mary, then it be of huge help in finding the release date.

Sam and friends (1955 - 1961)

Sam and friends was the very first puppetry television series created by Jim Henson alongside his colabarator and future wife Jane Nebel. filmed in Washington, D.C. and airing twice daily on WRC-TV and the NBC affiliate in Washington, D.C. from May 9, 1955, to December 15, Sam and Friends would mark the first apperence of Kermit (though not yet as a frog) and paved the way for Henson’s iconic and revered legacy in the realm of puppetry on film and television.

With the impact this show had in mind, it may come as a shock to some that almost half of Sam and Friends, specifically, 42 of the 86 episodes, are considered lost. With 16 existing, 8 documented, 9 known from memory, plus 8 existing Esskay commercials and 1 memory-known Esskay commercial. Some taped episodes have been shown at venues such as the museum of the moving image while others have been erased. It’s unknown if copies of these erased episodes still exist.

This post would become far to long if I were too list every episode missing from Sam and Freinds, but if your curious, the lost media wiki article has a comprehensive list of all lost episodes.

Week 2: Continuation of the Hibiscus and Experimentation

At the beginning of Week 2, I had no real idea of the art I wanted to create, except that I still wished to use the Hibiscus flower as an image. After being introduced to the different drawing methods in photo 1, I was keen to try out these various techniques and also developed my own ideas for other methods as well. I first tried a method not listed in photo 1, dipping and covering twine in various colours of ink and then proceeding to lay/press them in the shape of the hibiscus on some textured paper.

After my initial experimentation with twine and ink, I thought the next steps would be to continue trialing various drawing methods on small squares of paper, and then to bring the smaller pieces together to create a larger collective piece in the end. Pictured below are two more examples of drawing methods I trialled; the first being scraping an image into wet paint, an idea derived from a demonstration Ian J gave early that week, and the second showing the progress of sewing an image into the paper with twine, an idea directly from the diagram in photo 1. Photo 2 labels all methods of depiction, most of which I attempted at least twice to see if my technique could improve, which in most cases it did.

The next decision to be made was how I wished to connect all the pieces together; again my direction was influenced by my interest in sewing at this stage, as well as Ian J’s example. I decided my three ways of attachment would be sewing, taping, and stapling. In regards to sewing, I allowed my types of stitch to differ at each point, for the simple fact that I wished to try out different stitches and had no reservations towards doing so on this already experimentational piece. With both the staples and taping, I tried to not think too much of thier placement, trying to see them simply as a means to hold the pieces together, reasoning that if I looked too closely at thier aesthetic role within the piece, I would compromise the quick and fearless action of making previously held in my experimentations and trials.

Although I was happy with the product of my experimentations (as pictured above), I still felt that I hadn’t attempted enough of the drawing methods listed in photo 1. Therefore, also in week 2, I also created using mono-printing, ink pressing, photocopying, and inkjet printing . At first I attempted mono-printing using coloured ink, however my initial attempts failed to create the image I was envisioned, a result I believe occurred because I, 1) used wax paper, which in its lightness picked up the ink more easily, and 2) I rolled the ink too thickly. However I was able to learn and still use my mistakes to my advantage, using the excess ink and flattened hibiscus flowers to create a stamp (did in both coloured and black ink) and when I decided to mono-print with black ink, I rolled a thinner layer of ink onto the back of my tracing image and the resulting products in both cases were quite pleasing. Being inspired by Monique J’s stack of layered wax paper drawings, I was interested to see if I could layer both my ‘failed’ and ‘not failed’ mono-prints/pressings to create more interesting works; and so the imperfect spread of colour from my ‘failed’ attempts added another layer of texture and colour to the overlaid pressings.

In the picture of my studio space below, not only can my adjoined squares of experimentation and circular prints be seen within the studio space, but also visible along the exposed cement are examples of inkjet printing and photocopying. Still producing within the methods of photo 1, I produced an inkjet image by laying my hanging flower contraption on the scanner, and then used the appropriate photocopying processes to manipulate and invert the image also. By experimenting with many of the various methods in photo 1, I produced a variety of work, all in which had no predetermined ‘look’ in thier beginning, but all successful in their own ways.

Apparently they had overestimated what they could do with the available resources. Personally, I think that “overestimated” is being generous. Even I could see that it was little more than wishful thinking. This was a problem. My Diamond had finalized plans for an emerging colony in sector G6 and she was relying on those bismuths to assist in constructing three of the spires there. My Diamond could still delegate existing bismuths to the project but that would mean pulling them away from there current tasks. Either way, this was going to set things back quite a bit.

Now we were back at the control room and My Diamond was seething. I could tell. She sat silently, her fists were clenched, I could almost hear her grinding her teeth. After what felt like an eternity she took a deep breath and broke the silence.

“Pearl.” She said.

“Yes, My Diamond?”

“The minutes from the meeting…”

“I have them right here, My Diamond. Would you like me to read them to you?”

 “Send them to me.” She said, “I’ll read through them.” I sent the document to My Diamond’s terminal. She began to look over it. Although her back was turned, I sensed growing frustration. I didn’t understand, had I done something wrong?

“Wait, what?” I stammered, as I frantically I looked back over the document. “I’m certain I didn’t forget…” But I did forget. There it was: Peridot Facet 3K4R Cut 4. “Forgive me, My Diamond. I had meant to write Cut 4xt. I must have forgotten.”

“You forgot?” She hissed, slowly rising from her seat. “You Forgot!?” Her voice echoed throughout the room. I froze, uncertain of what to say. “I swear, I’m surrounded by idiots! Dammit Pearl! You had one. Simple. Task. And you couldn’t even get that right? Are you Serious!?”

What followed was a fierce diatribe that seemed endless. I can barely recall what was said as her words were drowned out by the echos of her own voice that bounced off the walls. All I could do was stand there, and take in every harsh word. When she was done, she ordered me to get out of her sight.

Later, I was back in my cubby, ruminating over the incident. I wasn’t upset with My Diamond for the things that she had said. She was right to be angry with me. She was already stressed enough as it was. After the day she’d had, the last thing she needed were more foul ups. “Dammit!” I thought to myself. “How could I have been so stupid! It was one simple task and I somehow managed to get it wrong! Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! ”

As I sat there banging my head against the wall of my cubby, I could only think to my self, “I don’t deserve to serve such a radiant being. Not a worthless clod like me. Worthless clod…worthless clod…worthless clod…”

It’s funny, this isn’t the first time that My Diamond has unloaded on me. Yet her diatribes always pale in comparison to mine.

Recommendations for the soul

omg, it’s been ages since I posted something. When I started this I said to myself, ‘right, now that school has finished, I have all the time in the world to write posts and keep up to date with posting regularly, maybe post 2-3 times a week!.’ yeah, no. that did not happen. Instead, I spent my time watching Netflix, TV shows mostly but the occasional film. So today, I am going to share TV shows that I watch currently or have watched in the past that I highly recommend.

ALL OF THESE SHOWS ARE ON UK NETFLIX APART FROM MODERN FAMILY.

TV shows

Pretty Little Liars - this show is known by basically everyone. For those who may not know about it, it has a good variety of genres, mystery, romance, thriller, crime, comedy. I think this show is one that would be described as ‘a girl’s show’, the beginning is a but teen and awkward acting, but when I started watching it, I did not care. People get hooked on it so fast and it is so enticing, however, like the summer of 2014, I binge watched it the whole of summer and I did get pretty sick of it as it got quite predictable at times, but give it time and damn. Pll has officially finished now but it is still a great watch for anyone who likes any genre.

Orphan Black - this show is v hard to explain. Click for the trailer. It’s about clones, so Tatiana Maslany (the actress of all the clones) is a goddess, and how they are trying to find out who made them and why they are being hunted. I fell in love with all thr characters so easily and it is very hard to stop watching. It can be quite grusome and explicit at times but it just adds to the story. It genuinely is really hard to explain without giving too much away, so watch the trailer and if you’re interested, watch the first episode and I guarentee that you will want episode 2. If you watch this, attention is needed like a lot, because they refer back to things in season 4 that happened in season 2. But super duper worth the work.

Friends - now this is the most classic comedy, romance, drama show ever. If you don’t know what it is then you have not lived, and when you do watch it, you’ll finally understand all those jokes your friends made and all the quotes on memes you’ve seen.WATCH IT. Even if you’ve already watched it a thousand times before, watch it again, and again, and again.

The Big Bang Theory - I would say that the set up of this show is similar to Friends, a solid group of friends, a well known apartment, a regular meet up place etc. So if you’re into chilled shows with comedy and science, this will tick your boxes.

Bates Motel - drama, mystery, thriller, crime, romance, this is what will be found at the Bates Motel. This show is based off the classic thriller film, Psycho. It has been majorly spread out over like 3 seasons, but it shows Norman Bates before the ending of the film. It shows how his mental health showly gets worse and when it started and why etc. With the addition of his brother, Dylan, and friend, Emma, the audience can really connect with Norman and Norma as their lives are shown. It’s quite haunting as Norman is cray cray for taxidermy, but I got used to it quite quickly. A good watch, but needs attention as I forgot things that they mention like season 1.

Teen Wolf - i find this show really enjoyable, the first couple of seasons are... they aren’t slow, but it’s just all quite basic, like ‘oh look, another fight. yep, he’s a wolf too, cool.’ but it is still amazing. It starts to pick up at season 3, season 4 is kinda like ‘how they gonna fix this mess?’, season 5 is like ‘woah, there’s a shit load of new creatures, like damn.’ and season 6 (final season) is like ‘well shit. there is now way they are fixing this mess.’ It is all incredible and all the actors and actresses are pretty sweet (on the eyes). Comedy is included, and it will make you cry at some point.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine - similar set up to The Big Bang theory and Friends as being a sit-com, it is really enjoyable, i am currently watching it for the third time. Each episode is like a different scenario, i know thats the same with every show but this show is about cops and each episode is a different case. The characters are awesome and the actors play their parts so well. Comedy is the #1 genre, but there is drama and mystery (some). It for real is hilarious though! watch watch watch.

Modern Family - this show is seriously the best, just having all the different connections with each character and the diversity. I love it so much. It’s like a scripted reality show, there isn’t much I can say about it as it doesn’t really have a plot line, it’s just one huge family each with their own story. 100 percent, watch.

Parks and Recreation - similar to Modern Family in the sense of the filming technique, the characters look at the camera and they have interviews. Again is so funny and amazing and there’s just all humour types for everybody. Also, everyone will love Ron Swanson. (Sidenote: Chris Pratt stars in it which might intice a few).

Those are the main shows that I’ve watched before that I loved the most, but I am going to label some editional ones quickly that can’t go unmentioned.

13 Reasons Why - this heartbreaking show about a girl who commits suicide tells her story of what led to her decision. like srsly, your heart will melt.

Merlin - based in Camelot with Prince/King Arthur and the Knights of the round table, this show is legit, all about the magic. Main character is Merlin who has to keep his magic a secret from the royal family as it is against the law, and punishable by death, Slight hiccup, he is a servant for Arthur. Humour, romance, drama, fantasy, mystery.

The Fresh Prince of Bel Air - this show is so hilarious, the personality of Will is amazing and something that I think a small part of everyone can relate to. A great chilled out watch for people who love old shows. 

H20: Just Add Water - now i know this is a ‘childs’ show, and i did watch it in my childhood, but because it wasn’t when I was like 2, I remembered it and have re-watched it since. It’s basically about three girls that get turned into mermaids and have to keep it a secret from everyone they know, one problem, they can’t touch water. #dilemma

Sherlock - this show is amazing! i cannot stress enough how good this is. I haven’t watched it in ages because it finished, but it’s just Sherlock Holmes being savage af and solving crimes in the process. Mystery, drame, thriller, comedy, romance, oh hell no moments, Benedict Cumberbatch. It is the whole package.

iZombie - I have been a dedicated watcher of this show for ages, and i love season 1 and 2, but season 3 just didn’t do it for me. It got a bit too confusing and lost what they had is the first seasons. I mean, don’t get me wrong, the last episode of season 2 i was like ‘omg damn, what’s gonna happen now, this is such a cliffhanger omg i must know’ and then i googled when the next season was out, but now that the third and final season has finished i’m kinda like ‘hmm, i think i would’ve been okay leaving at season 2′. So i highly recommend season 1 and 2 for sure.

Now I’m just gonna write titles of shows that should definately be watched by everyone ever

Bad Education - comedy based in a british secondary school with Jack Whitehall as the main character (so you know it’s gonna be good).

Santa Clarita Diet - a woman becomes a zombie and tried to figure out how to deal with it, comedy, drama, mystery.

Outnumbered - sit-com about a british family of three children with the two parents that are now, outnumbered.

Scream - 100 percent mystery, thriller, crime, horror. best thing to ever happen ever and total shocker. Based off the classic film, Scream.

American Horror Story - I’ve only watched season 1, 2 and 3 (Murder House, Asylum and Coven), i really enjoyed them and have re-watched them. Can be really creepy and weird, would not recommend watching in the dark.

Big School - sit-com in a british school, David Walliams stars as the weird teacher trying to date the new French teacher.

Once Upon a Time - literally combines every fairytale, classic novel etc. i really enjoyed it but i couldn’t bulk binge watch it as it would annoy me as it got somewhat predictable. #lol

Miranda - best little show ever, a woman living in Surrey trying to figure her life out. Comedian plays the role of Miranda and shows how i think everyone whats to live.

How I Met Your Mother - a show similar to Friends and The Big Bang Theory, Ted narrates each season to his children telling the story of how he met thier mother and the years before. I would definately recommend as there is a major plot twist on the very last episode that will make you super happy but also super sad.

Riverdale - this awesome show is about a murder that everyone gradually forgets about and then at the end is like ‘oh yea’, there is only one season so far with a gripping finishing episode. but another is coming soon. it looks like it’s set in the 80′s-90′s if they had iPhone 7′s. totally worth the watch.

The Wrong Man’s - a british comedy show written and produced by James Corden. two men are in the wrong place at the wrong time and their lives slowly but surely, fall apart. might watch again soon actually.

Now i’m finally done. I’ve genuinely just listed every tv show i’ve every watched. I of course love The Simpsons and Futurama, but I thought people would want to hear more about tv shows that aren’t cartoons... ya know.

I am currently working a temporary job away from home in another state not my permanent residence (I am living there for the term of the employment).
