Iota Timeline! (real)
I’m gonna give a "quick" description for each stage too! (under the cut)
Splatoon 1: Iota was a pretty shy kid back during the events of Splat 1, only getting involved with hero business due to being too embarrassed to back out of it. Other than that, she was a relatively average kid, save for their love for the outdoors and secret underlying anger issues. Iota never spent much time in battle either, preferring the peaceful solitude of Octo Valley. This didn’t make her a worse fighter however, just maybe not as elite as those who basically lived on the battlefield.
Splatoon 2/Octo Expansion: The effects of OE weigh heavily on Iota’s psyche. Being more or less useless during the entire fiasco (except for destroying the blender, after which they were immediately knocked out) was so deeply embarrassing that she was wracked with guilt and sorrow. But in her mind, a real hero isn’t supposed to feel sorrow, are they? Aren’t they just proving their own point by feeling sorry for themself? Why not turn that self pity into anger? At least anger is something you can work with… Obviously this mentality is flawed, but a mix of denial and grief pushed any of those thoughts away. The scar she earned from the whole ordeal was just another reminder, further driving the shifts in her personality, as well as the amplification of certain traits. A preference for the natural world turned into disgust for almost anything technological (especially since it was a phone/ai that caused her suffering). For a long while, her ink color was stained too, having a turquoise tint that wouldn’t go away no matter what.
Splatoon 3: The NSBS really helped Iota break out of the spiral she found herself in, but she’s by no means in a completely healthy mental state, but it is much healthier than what it once was. Occasionally, the old Iota will break through —one’s true nature isn’t exactly easy to change. This improved mental is reflected in their scar too; slightly healed but by no means gone (their ink colors also are now a bit more pale than before). One thing that hasn’t really changed is Iota’s distrust in technology, but the nature lover in them has returned fortunately, so she has a much healthier outlet now.

trying to nail down a design for my neo 3. i like this one a lot :3
#splatoon#splatoon oc#agent neo 3#dont want to make the post too long so im putting design notes in the tags#the scar in between her eyes is supposed to kind of look like an inkling's mask#cause i wanted to have a reference to how neo 3 can be either species#the hairstyle is for the same reason#shes a mimic octopus cause my original idea was that she would disguise herself as an inkling but i kinda scrapped that#the hook piercing+necklace+mesh gloves are all there as nods to her connection to salmonids#also cause the outfit is taken directly from my avatar who wears marina's amiibo gear#and i didnt want to think of an explanation of why neo 3 is wearing marinas clothes but i was also too attached to the outfit lol#theres a lore explanation for why her hero suit is torn#but also i thought it clashed awkwardly with her legwear when i tried the original design#shes supposed to be about 17 here so i made her fingertip markings a little faded cause theyre still developing#but also i just like how they look so i might say that shes just Like That#OK character design rambling overr <3

↳ summary katsuki can’t stop visiting his favorite support tool.
¡ a.n ; hey yall! it’s been awhile I know 😔 I don’t have much to say but I will say updates are still gonna be coming slow, i’ve been busy with work and on top of that school so bare with me.! 🙏 hope you guys enjoy.
being a support tool for a pro hero was interesting to say the least. every time and you mean EVERY time he would come into your workshop your co workers would always tease you, whenever he came in with a broken gauntlet, or his belt, or anything for that matter, as soon as he would drop off his gear for you to work on they would tease you, says stuff like “I bet he likes youuuu.” said one “isn’t this his 2nd time coming today? he must really like seeing you~.” said another just smirking shaking your head working on his gauntlet.
you do have to admit, it’s nice being a support tool for a pro hero at that being dynamite. it was cool working on his stuff or even explaining your ideas for his gauntlets or even little gadgets you had in mind, like for his gloves for the winter, when you were explaining it to him you’ve never realized how much he actually listened to you keeping eye contact with you till one of your co workers said something. he doesn’t like admitting stuff but he loves when you talk about ideas that’s just for him. would nod his head in agreement everytime getting lost with your voice..”so for whenever winter comes you’ll have these!. there automatic hand warmer gloves to help you produce more sweat for your explosions. It’s still a project in mind but— dynamite?.” you paused furrowing your eyebrows seeing him stare at you, almost like he’s glaring at you??.
did you say something wrong?!. shit! you probably pissed him off..great work y/n!. while you were mentally cussing yourself out as he was deep in thought…he never liked when people talked his ear off but you? he can make an exception..he loved hearing every single idea you had for his suits or to help him. honestly he could listen to you ramble on and on if he had the chance, he didn’t even notice your panic up until you called his name getting him out his thoughts. “what?.” — “I said did I do anything..? you’re glaring at me.” you nervously chuckled, almost in an instant he cursed to himself. he’s always had this mean resting bitch face, so whenever he’s calm he still looks mad. dynamite shook his head oddly quickly, “no!— I mean no..uh you didn’t.” he cleared his throat. fuck! you furrowed your eyebrows but shook your head looking back down at the glove, “I’ll let you know when the full designed is completed.” you gave a small smile turning back around to place the glove back on your work bench.
some days your co workers would catch on how many times he’s came in, saying one day he came in three times! one was when his belt broke, two is when his gauntlet was malfunctioning and the third..? you don’t think you remember him saying anything about any of his stuff being broken. when you had asked he had this small blush on his cheeks as he tried to explain himself, grinning at him trying to find his words. at first you thought it was cute by how many times he’s came to see you but then you started to get curious, the night where it was just you in your workshop working on your project you heard heavy footsteps approach you from behind. you paused your work lifting your head up, the more the steps came closer the more your grip tightened on the screw driver. your quirk wasn’t as cool as the pro’s but it was very helpful..if a person is atleast 15 feet from you, you can feel there presence and hear their breathing.
as if someone was about to touch you, you whipped around fast pointing the screw driver at the persons neck but once you realized who it was your defenses dropped. “dynamight?.” you questioned, furrowing your eyebrows. he looked different? instead of his costume he was wearing casual attire, a white t-shirt, black jeans and sneakers. you think this is your first time seeing him wear something outside his costume, he was also holding flowers in his hand?. you felt your heart drop but you kept a smile on your face tilting your head, “what are you doing here? It’s late you know.” you chuckled as he sighed nodding his head. “yeah..I just thought I could stop by..” he was nervous. you could tell. you hummed looking back down at the flowers then him, “you’re all dressed up. you got a hot date tonight?.” you teased, though you didn’t want it to be true.
In an instant he shook his head furrowing his eyebrows, “no!. I..no. uh there actually for you..” he said quietly, you raised a brow. “there for me?.” he didn’t say anything but nod his head lifting them for you to grab. they were your favorite too..how did he..? “and there my favorite..” you smiled admiring them, “how did you know?.” dynamight shrugged looking away trying to cover the small blush, “I asked shitty hair.” of course, you shook your head chuckling softly. “dynamight—“ — “katsuki.” you paused. “call me katsuki.” he looked back at you and you swore he had a smile on his face, “katsuki..” It rolled off your tongue in a good way, “well then katsuki, why you get me flowers?.” this was the hard part. admitting he took a liking of you and wanted to ask you out on a date, he went to kirishima for advice since you’re basically his sister and he knows everything about you. though kirishima can be an idiot sometimes he’s actually really good at advice..
he cleared his throat trying to get the right words out. from the silence you gave a soft smile placing the flowers gently down on your desk, grabbing ahold of his hand squeezing it. “you know, you don’t have to tell me anything right now. I won’t force you.” the gentle in your voice could make anyone calm their nerves. it was calming his. he sighed squeezing your back, “well..I want to take you out or something.” — “like a date?.” he nodded his head, you smiled. when he didn’t get an answer he thought you were gonna decline but when he felt you kiss his cheek his eyes went wide, “I would love that.”
“I really would.”

Izuku
(this is just something to put out for fun but I take heavy inspiration from Glitched they're freaking amazing! I hope they are doing well ❤️🩹🥦)
It was another day of sitting at home without a care in the world. Waiting for your husband to come home, this was the one day where you weren't working or out doing chores. The giant house that you and your pro hero husband inhabited was so intimidatingly big, that seeing the house so quiet and empty kinda scared you but in a good way. Like a really secured way.
It wasn't all that lonely I suppose with your husband texting you every once and in a while with memes or compliments or how much he misses you. He's gotten the hang of One for All and is the number 1 hero. All this sounds pretty good for you guys but it's not...
The stronger your hunk of a husband gets, the longer he'll be working and that means less time for you too. This was probably the 3rd day he'd been vacant from the house this week so you were tired of it. I mean who wouldn't be?
I'm just gonna have to make him forget work when he comes back. you thought. Sure it was a lot easier said than done but you are Y/-fuckin-N! Ain't nobody or nothing gonna stop you from getting what you want✨
*Bzzz* Your phone buzzes and you find out it's your husband.
🥦My hero🥦: Hey baby I got some good news! 😁
I'll be home either tonight or next morning! I can't wait to see my precious little Bunny💚
Your heart swelled as you read the text you eagerly texted him back showing your excitement before going back to brainstorming. Shit.... Now you're on a time limit. With little time you began thinking about a dinner; one with a huge table full of different foods and of course dessert but will that be enough for your busy husband to stay home?
Annoyed and stressed, you just focus on that one thing, preparing food. You walked into the kitchen and searched the full fridge for things to cook. thankfully you had the ingredients to try some viral recipe you saw on Pinterest.
After cooking and laying everything out on the table you decided to change into something more anticipating you changed into some tiny pajamas and black lingerie under it. Surely it would do something to him to see those thin, black and green panties.
"Bun! I'm home!" Your heart froze up before running to the front door and hugging and kissing the breath out of Izuku.
"baby! Hiii" "Hey bun... You look so....- He takes in the way that the shirt you were wearing hugs your curves. The way that it just barely shows the outline of your hardening nipples. —Good..."
"I made you a little sumthin-" You help him put his stuff down and drag him towards the kitchen. This food is gonna be so fucking good that he's gonna eat this and then eat me- wait.
As Izuku takes a seat and looks in awe at all the food on the table. After working 22 hour shifts for 3 days straight you get kinda hungry. He waited for you to be seated as you walked to the table with his plate of healthy servings.
"thank you so much, Bunny. I love you."
You smile and join him at the table, in your rightful chair or throne rather; Izuku's lap.
He begins to chow down on all of his food rather quickly, while spouting his compliments about you and the food. "Wow this is so good, Bun" and "You look so pretty today" and "Did you get all dolled up for me?"
At the end of the meal you carefully bring him upstairs and take off his hero gear. Making sure to be slow and to add a sway to your movements. At this point Izuku's eyes were lidded and he still had that same smile of adoration but it seemed almost suspecting.
You pushed him back on the bed and slowly took off the pajamas. (Deku merch obviously) Under it you had your dark green and black lingerie.
"wow.. you were ready for me, weren't you bun?"
He cups your cheek and pulls you onto his lap. You feel his warm, calloused hand touch your face as a familiar sensation of Izuku's bulge rubbing against your sweet spot.
You lean in for a kiss and start playing with the zipper on his hero suit pants. As you do he slips a hand on your waist and deepens the kiss while helping you loosen his pants and takes off his suit.
"lemme help you with that bun..."
✩.・*:。≻─────────── ⋆♡⋆ ───────────.•*:。✩
"F-fuck! Wait! Izu...." Of course after working for so long and so hard your husband is gonna be a little pent up. Not being able to come home to see his pretty, loyal wife. The only way to solve that? A fucking mating press. Nothing can compare to the satisfaction of a good fucking. Especially passionate, rough and deep sex.
I mean if you aren't screaming his name at the end is it even considered a good fucking? Clearly he isn't putting in enough effort if you give him a reaction that's anything less than a moan of his name, unintelligible mumbles, or praises. So he'll go for a couple hours. Maybe he'll be satisfied after a few positions, some breeding, and marking. Just to make sure you know you're his.
And right after he would take a shower with you cuddle with you and make sure you were at 100 percent and then only then would he go to sleep with you in his arms. An unbreakable grasp.
Then he'll do the same thing next week.
⏤͟͟͞͞☆𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐱.

I DONT LIKE ANYONE EXCEPT SOMETIMES YOU
shinso x reader
thoughts about how shinso would act in a relationship. same premise as the kirishima ver.
inspired by backburner
hitoshi shinso, who’s facetimes with you always run late into the night. you ramble on about your day while he hums in response, knowing that you know he’s not the talkative type. he never asks “how was your day?” he always says “tell me about your day.” because he really, truly wants to hear about your day. you could have cured a disease or simply just gotten out of bed, and he’d still want to hear every single detail simply because its from you.
hitoshi shinso, who loves to cook. only you're aware of it, because he doesn't always like sharing personal details with others, but you never complained- it just means more for you. you're always the first person that gets to try his food, though he claims you're not a very good critic. but you can't help it, everything he makes tastes so good. and with every compliment you shower him in, he'll hit you with a 'yeah, yeah, whatever.' and then next moment, make you more so you can always stay fed during long days at UA and long hours during hero-training. its his silent way of telling you he loves you.
hitoshi shinso, whose cats love you more than they love him. he has three triplets, a black british short hair, a siamese, and a grey ragdoll- pepper, lexi, and mustache- he absolutely hates the last name, but he had just adopted the kitten and you named it for its white streak right below its nose. he'll deny it forever, but he gets pouty and huffs in annoyance whenever he sees the cats run to you, even after he's fed and taken care of them for all of their lives. but he also cant deny the way his heart skips a beat whenever he seems them cuddled up with you on his bed, wearing one of his big t-shirts. it softens his heart in a way that nothing else does- your love fills his heart more strongly and more passionately than anything does.
hitoshi shinso, who is the closed-off, funny but quiet dickhead of his friend group. he's known for his out-of-pocket roasts at the right times and his nonchalant nature that contrasts with the loud, spunkiness of his multicolored-haired friends. but with you, he softens. the few times he's brought you along with him to movie night or training sessions, you've softened his heart enough for the love in him to seep out towards others as well. whenever you crack a joke, make someone else at the table smile, and draw laughs and happiness from their chests, a blush blooms across his cheeks. obviously, he fell for you, how could he not?
hitoshi shinso, who's favorite activity with you is your sunday-ritual. you'll wake up together, either in the same bed or over the phone, and bike down to the coast. you'll bug him about wearing a helmet, but he always complains that it ruins your hair. he'd never admit that its because he thinks you're absolutely adorable when you dote on him. afterwards he'll share a smoothie with you- he hates all the flavors except for mixed berry, which is the one he always insists on getting. he hates the the overpricing for what the product actually is, but loves the smile it puts on your face after a tiring bike-ride. and afterwards, you two will go back to either his of your place. his place if your parents aren't home, and his place when his parents are home, and binge watch a long t.v show of your choosing. he'll always complain that its stupid, poorly written or drawn out, but get pouty whenever you watch an episode without him. it's the one thing he looks forwards to at the end of a long week, drawn out with endless studies, training, and burnout. you're his safe place, and he needs it more than he'll admit.
hitoshi shinso, who somehow remembers every tiny detail about you. his mind works like gears, arranging formulas and deciphering codes, but the intellect of his mind makes you its priority. he remembers the way you pick your nails and cuticles when you have anxiety, and how placing his warm palm over yours soothes some of those thoughts. he remembers how prefer to tie your hair back during training but how you somehow always forget a hair tie- and he knows how you always give him a peck on his cheek once he shows off the one he's been keeping on his wrist for you. he remembers how you can't sleep without your nightly calls, and how he needs to hear your voice before he drifts of too- maybe more than you need it. he remembers the first day you met, the first thing he said to you, the first time he ever felt love for you. he remembers all of it and keeps it embedded in his heart. hitoshi shinso may seem like he hates everyone, but the one exception to that is you. and he'll remember that forever.

Your Husband Is A What?
Damian/Duke is trapped in a weapon (like one of those cool big ass anime swords) and it's up to Danny to get him back to normal.
Travelling back to the past seemed fun but unfortunately all the other heroes think he's a little crazy, and yes, he may have a few screws loose but his husband really is trapped in this weapon damnit.
_______
How they met could be made into a book with the title Love At First Fight, because that's exactly how they met each other.
Danny had taken a route that was basically a dark alley, so there really wasn't no surprise when a couple of guys tried to rob him. Well, Danny was not one to back down and with a trusty steel pipe he found right next to the dumpster he began taking them down.
In the aftermath Danny's jeans had become ripped jeans but he wasn't sure if they could be considered proper clothing to wear anymore, which pissed him off so he got one more hit in with the steel pipe to the nearest man next to him.
Footsteps as light as they were still alerted Danny to one more thief in his vicinity. Without much hesitation he turned swiftly and dashed towards his opponent. Steel meet steel as his attacker counteracted his attack with a weapon of their own. Danny still had powers though, so using a bit more strength he sent the other's weapon flying in another direction, giving him the opportunity to strike.
He didn't know when he lost his own weapon but somehow him and his attacker were now fist fighting on the floor. It was only after the adreneline had calmed down somewhat that Danny was able to see he was fighting one of Gotham's heroes.
Quickly separating himself from the hero he profusely apologised before dashing off to deal with the action of beating up one of his favorite heroes.
What followed afterwards were a series of events that always ended up with the two meeting each other and engaging in a 'battle' of sorts. One thing led to another and for some reason they ended up kissing in the same dark alley they first met, away from any prying eyes. After that night things changed significantly.
Danny always knew the indentity of the one that became his love because of the otherness he could feel beneath their skin that reminded him of himself and eventually he told them about Phantom.
It took a lot more meet ups in secret before they were finally comfortable enough to officially meet each other's family and it had gone a lot better than they were expecting.
Sometimes they would help each other out on missions and this time was no different. They were dealing with another crazy magician who thought he could take over the world by using the power of an ancient deity. They managed to stop him but before he could be detained he fired of one more spell that trapped his boyfriend in his weapon and used some sort or artifact to send them careening through a portal.
Luckily for them they ended up with the JL, unluckily for them no one seems to know who they are.
____________
Flash: Are we sure he should be in the watchtower?
Black Canary: He's not doing anything bad, look at him.
Phantom using his lover as a swing: ^o^
Green Arrow: He thinks that's his husband trapped in there.
Black Canary: He could be.
Flash: How old is he anyways, he looks too young to be married.
Superman: C'mon everyone let's not talk about him while he's right there.
Greenlantern: Look at him! Does it looks like he cares?
Phantom still using his lover as a swing: ( ≧ᗜ≦)
Superman: It's still rude.
____________
Based slightly off of Aba from Guilty Gear.
I imagine Danny pulling a Sayaka (from Madoka Magica) and stabbing the sword through him for a power-up and everyone panics for a hot minute before realizing he's fine.

thinking fondly of you<3 want to ditch the kids and go to a winery this weekend? (drink some red wine(supernova))
also thinking fondly about jaytim. specifically, about how oftentimes we think of them as a slow burn… but you know what might make them a fast burn (an explosion?)?
one of them gets kidnapped and everyone thinks they’re dead:( but then they’re alive
Always, love, I'm sure they'll be happy to spend some time with their favorite familial babysitters, I'll give them a call tonight🍷💥
And OUGH. Yes. SUCH a classic action hero hurt/comfort trope, I'm always here for mortal peril being the trigger that forces a couple to realize what they mean to each other and that they WANT to take that chance!!
I am reminded strongly of one of feyburner's comics that I love so much... in this comic they were hooking up beforehand and this is the scenario that like. Makes it emotionally REAL for Tim and i love that sooo much... but also OwO
thinking about The Scenario:
One of them is kidnapped. Due to inspo in part from feyburner's comic, I'm thinking Jason. But it's been so long/the method in which he was taken leads everyone to believe that Jason's dead. EVERYONE. Tim included. Thinking that he's dead hits Tim harder than expected. Why? It doesn't make sense. I didn't even like him that much, what the fuck.
But he goes after the bastards who did it twice as hard, ridden by this sharp grief he didn't know he would feel. He's on a warpath. He's chasing down leads, shaking down goons, snapping at everyone that it doesn't matter that Jason's already dead this is about justice this is about vengeance this is about preventing it from happening again-- and finally finds the Organization's big base. Their big HQ.
Methodically he goes about tearing it down, one-man guerrilla style. As he moves through the complex, KO'ing goons, sabotaging weapons and computers, hell he might even rig this place to blow--
He picks up chatter about moving the 'livestock' and 'dealing with the troublemaker' and figures there must be human prisoners here. Possibly trafficking victims. He's been raising all kinds of hell, and security is just now going on alert as they find the evidence of his entry--
--when over one of the radios on the goons he just took out, Tim hears a very familiar and very alive voice taunting the Organization that he's out. They should have killed Jason when they had the chance.
Tim immediately factors Jason and the victims into his plans, gets in contact with Jason over the radio (full mission mode, no time for feelings or explanations yet) to work together on bringing this place down.
So by the time things are cleared up-- bad guys busted, victims rescued, base blown to smithereens-- Tim has been wildly coming to grips with the fact that Jason is alive after all and the confusing rush of emotions that's inspired in him, but Jason still has no idea that everyone thought he was dead.
So when Tim finally sees Jason in person, missing half his gear and still wearing the clothes he was snatched in, dirty and bloody and asking what took him so long-- he's not exactly thinking clearly, okay? Kissing him was a purely adrenaline/relief fueled action.
"Woah," Jason breathes once Tim gives him the chance. "What was that for?" "Thought you were dead," Tim muffles against the skin of Jason's throat. His pulse beats hard against Tim's cheek, his lips, sternly refuting the allegations. "Oh," Jason says, bowled over and bewildered. He's still holding Tim with an arm around his waist, his other hand cupping the back of his head, big and steady. "Well. I'm not." Tim squeezes tighter, his fists trembling in the back of Jason's shirt. Jason is solid, and warm, and alive-- and Tim might be in love with him. "Yeah," he apologizes. "Sorry. Had to check." Tim's clearly stumped him. "Huh." Tim doesn't let go. But neither does Jason. Jason clears his throat. "You know, I don't have the best track record with being alive after all," he says in a rambling tone so casual it makes Tim's chest hitch. "You maybe wanna... check again?"
#gotta be one of my favorite action hero romance tropes lolol#jaytim#don't worry wifey i am still brooding over that pirates au ask fjdlksjfsa i'm hoping to get to it another night i prommy <33#🍷💥anon#asked and answered#the vibe with this is absolutely tim only realizing how he feels after jason is ''''dead''''#and jason getting kissed within an inch of his life and going 'oh shit. u kno i never thought about it? but now that it's happening? y e s'#and then they have 'thank god you're not dead' sex on the plane home or smth lol#or if this is a more local HQ they have 'thank god you're not dead' sex at the nearest safehouse#tim cries it's great#my writing#didn't realize how long this was slapping a read more on it lol

fluff! :D, fem! reader, contains swearing, not proofread
Leo
- He may not be the brightest mutant, but he is observant
- Probably interrogated the info out of you
- -> “Y/N, where exactly were you last night?” “Oh, uh…I was with, um, April.” “That’s funny…considering April was with us!”
- It didn’t really shock him to find out you had a big secret, what did shock him is what that secret is
- He’s also a little hurt that you didn’t tell him. Don’t you trust him??? But that wasn’t his biggest concern
- “Wait, so like…spider woman as in like, big mama kind of spider woman?” NO-
- You would have to really explain it to him
- But let’s be real, he still wouldn’t understand so you’d have to show him by like climbing up the fucking wall or something
- But he really does think your powers are super sick
- Laughs when you try to explain your spidey senses -> “wait, you’re serious?”
- ^ calls them your “tingly thing”

- doesn’t ask for them, but he can’t deny he likes the iconic Spider-Man kisses
Mikey
- would just straight up ask if you’re hiding something. Dr.Delicate touch DOES NOT PLAY ‼️
- Of course this would be something you’re hesitant about, but he would remind you that you can confide in him
- Def was not expecting THIS.
- He is asking you a million questions all at once, and will sit nicely and listen as you explain with starry eyes (stop lookin at me with them big ole eyes)
- You’re #1 fan and biggest hype man
- Thinks you’re the coolest person ever fr
- Wants to swing around on your webs with you. Around NYC, in the lair, in Donnie’s lab, on missions, it doesn’t matter he WANTS it.
- THE ICONIC SPIDER-MAN KISSES ALL THE TIME ITS HIS FAVORITE WAY TO KISS YOU NOW

The only stereotypically masculine thing about Aang…is his romantic arc
There’s a really popular post on Tumblr called “Avatar Aang, Feminist Icon.” The thesis is basically that Aang, unlike his female teachers and friends, is actually not a badass. He listens, he defers, and he respects women. He seemed to have no problem with Katara’s crush on Jet, despite his own crush on her. He chooses love and kindness and friendship and pacifism. He’s not tall and handsome as hell or buff. He wears flower crowns!
And I agree! This is Aang for most of the series and I love those qualities (though I do think the bar is in hell if those traits make a character a feminist icon, as opposed to a person who simply sees women as human beings). Anyway, I just think there’s a glaring omission. And that’s Aang’s romantic arc in season 3.
Bryke managed to take the worst of both worlds: Aang’s romantic arc retains the male-centricity that make most romances so problematic, while retaining none of the characteristics that make problematic romances compelling to women.
Aang falls in love at first sight with a beautiful girl. For the majority of their friendship, he remains respectful and supportive. As his crush hits an all time high, however, it gets distinctly more stereotypical: he kisses Katara at the invasion, and when she didn’t want to talk about that kiss, he firebends at her (the fact that this comic is canon, and was published years after ATLA’s conclusion, only demonstrates that the creators still don’t understand critiques of their romance). Aang considers Katara “his girl” and becomes furious (“I would be in the Avatar state right now!”) when the actress version of Katara didn’t like him romantically, and then he kisses her again — this time explicitly against her wishes. Throughout the show, people reassure him that she will come around, continuously reinforcing the idea that Katara is “his” and he just has to be patient. And even though Ka/taang is supposed to be endgame, we never hear directly from Katara how she feels, even though we’re no strangers to her opinions and feelings on other topics. It’s almost like the creators wanted Katara’s feelings to be a mystery because we’re meant to resonate with Aang. That’s…a male-centric, action hero romance.
In addition, the friendship dynamics between Katara and Aang feel pretty gendered. The distribution of emotional labour between Aang and Katara is quite skewed: Katara takes care of Aang much more than he takes care of her. She’s the one responsible for calming him down from the Avatar State. She’s the one who cooks for him and performs a whole lot of domestic chores. Post-canon, Katara’s storyline revolves around Aang, and she’s treated as his accessory and the keeper of his legacy instead of her own person, to the degree that she’s not even recognizable in LOK anymore. A beautiful, badass, independent woman who dedicates her energy and intelligence to a man’s needs? Wow, that is definitely something I’ve never seen in media geared towards men!
A lot of gushing about Aang’s lack of stereotypical masculinity seems to also hinge on how Aang is not conventionally attractive, but that’s…not true. Aang may not behave like James Bond, but he has plenty of admirers. Meng and On Ji liked him even without knowing that he’s the Avatar. Post-series, Acolytes descend en masse to steal Katara’s man. And of course he grows into a tall, buff dude. Aang’s romantic arc is not about becoming attractive to women, or finding a woman who loves him despite his looks. His romantic arc is about getting the girl who’s hard to get, because she only sees him as a friend or a little brother / babysitting charge.
Bryke do not deserve the credit for creating a “feminist icon,” not when the only stereotypically masculine traits they gave him are in relation to his romance arc. It honestly feels more insidious this way, because it’s like, “see? You don’t have to be masculine to reap the benefits of performing masculinity” — the benefits being, of course, “getting” the girl you want.
#anti kataang#anti bryke#anti mental gymnastics from pseudo-feminists who think feminism is about liking non-masculine men#Aang critical#I cannot bring myself to be an Aang anti because I get a headache when I try to reconcile “ride or die I’ll blow up a factory w you” Aang#with “if my chakras weren’t blocked I’d be in the Avatar State rn” Aang#anyway#y’all knew this tag was coming#katara deserved better#my meta

something you'd never expect about steve harrington is that he loves halloween.
i mean, he really gets into it.
he dresses up, decorates the house, hands out candy and even goes trick or treating with the kids as an excuse. "i'm keeping an eye on you guys!"
"you didn't have to dress up though,"
"yes i did, dustin. you don't know everything."
even after the upside down bullshit, he still loves it, and maybe he kept his scoops uniform with blood and barf stains so he could use it as a costume. and maybe that was kind of fucked, but he's coping with it.
now, steve's love for halloween is one of robins favorite things about him. especially since his house is equipped for an exceptional party, what with the size and the decorations steve is going to put up anyways? it's perfect.
so the halloween after scoops, they throw a masquerade of sorts. it's quite a rager, despite steve's expectations.
he decided to go as a masked cowboy.
he got the boots, the hat, and he wore a leather vest that ended up giving him a chill for the night since other than some chaps, it was all he was wearing on his body. he did the whole nine yards with a red bandana and some sunglasses.
"hey cowboy."
steve turned, taking in the sight in-front of him.
a guy, with long curly hair, somehow making a jason voorhees costume work.
he tipped his hat, always committed to the bit, "jason." he said simply, thanking the bandana gods for hiding his blush.
"never woulda thought king steve would throw a party like this."
"why not?"
"i dunno. it's cool though, guy seems to have changed."
"for the better?"
jason tilted his head, "yeah man. for the better." he said it as though the decision had been made, and locked in place.
so they sat.
and talked.
all night.
and the rest of the party seemed to fade away. that is until a drunk robin, dressed as micheal myers laid across his lap, "kick everyone out, im tired."
he checked his watch, it was 4 am, probably about time for them to go home. so he stood, gearing up to say his farewell to jason, maybe ask him for his number, but when he turned again, he was gone. only the smell of weed and cheap cologne remained. (and later, he'd find, a lone 36 sided die, that he'd end up asking dustin about).
it's silly to think that steve was falling in love with this guy after only just meeting him, but he'd grappled with his sexuality on a bathroom floor, appropriately, and was ready to dive back into the dating pool. or maybe the puddle, because halloween jason, seemed to be the one.
the only thing is, steve has no idea who the guy is.
that is at least until, none other than eddie munson had a broke bottle pressed against his neck. now he didn't figure it out in that moment, but when they were fleeing for their lives, eddie's hand found a way into steve's, and back at eddie's trailer, steve caught a glimpse of none other than the jason voorhees mask he'd been searching for ever since that party.
and maybe it was a sappy declaration of love, but steve was nothing if not a hopeless romantic.
"don't be heroes."
it was pleading.
steve tossed the dice eddie's way, watching fondly as he struggled to catch it.
"steve- wh?" he could see the moment it clicked in eddie's eyes. steve turned, ready to finish this mess, so he could talk to eddie, to jason, and figure out some shit.
"hey, steve?"
he turned, meeting eddie's eyes.
"make him pay, cowboy."
--
it was done.
they did it.
a few were in the hospital but, hey. they did it. eddie had been in a rough way for a little while, eventually pulling through but not before some physical therapy.
steve was there when he woke up.
had been ever since he'd explained to eddie's uncle wayne how they knew each other and what eddie meant to steve.
eddie cracked open his eyes.
"howdy, cowboy." it came out scratched, and rough.
"eddie," steve breathed, grasping his hand.
"i knew i liked those chaps."
steve rolled his eyes, smiling while tears rolled down his cheeks. "you saved my life." eddie said, reaching a hand to steve's cheek. steve shook his head, "how can i ever repay you?" eddie said, a glint in his eye.
steve laughed, "no thanks necessary," he said, tipping his imaginary hat, leaning into eddie's touch. "there must be someway," he said, southern drawl creeping into his voice. "how about a kiss?" steve asked, eyes flickering down to the metal heads lips.
wayne shook his head at the boys' antics. "will y'all just kiss already? im getting old waitin' for ya!"
eddie laughed at his uncle's testimony, before nodding, "c'mere, cowboy," he said, before closing the gap between him and steve.
"was it rootin' n tootin'?" eddie asked, a cheesy grin on his face as he pulled away. "sure was, partner."
"oh my god."
"hey robs,"
"steve, shut up. eddie's jason! jason from-" robin stumbled into the room. "from the party!" she all but squealed. steve laughed, nodding, "yeah, babe. we figured that one out ourselves."

‘Our Flag Means Death’ Star Rhys Darby on Stede’s Transformations & Hopes for Season 3
[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for Our Flag Means Death Season 2 Episode 8 “Mermen.”]
Our Flag Means Death saw Gentleman pirate Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) transform from a fish-out-of-water swashbuckler into the romantic hero he was always destined to be in the latest season of Max‘s original comedy.
After realizing the error of his ways at the end of Season 1, Stede sought redemption in the eyes of the infamous Blackbeard, a.k.a. Ed (Taika Waititi), after recognizing he was in love with the pirate. While the path wasn’t a direct one, they eventually found their way back to one another with the help of a fantastical mermaid sequence, some much-needed apologies, and ultimately a better string of communication.
Reflecting on his journey, star Rhys Darby is opening up about Stede’s various transformations in Season 2, including the excitement surrounding that mermaid tail, as well as about where he thinks the pirate lovebirds might end up next should the series return for Season 3.
Congrats on Season 2! Now that we can finally talk about it, what has it been like getting to see fan reactions, especially during the SAG-AFTRA strike?
Rhys Darby: Yeah, it was like a pressure cooker that needed to burst, for us and for the fans. When it finally came out, the burst happened and there was so much love for us, [but we] couldn’t talk about it. We were still stuck in this bottle and the cork wouldn’t come off, and that was difficult, but it was really lovely to see all the love and the surprise from everyone. Obviously, as you know, the fan artwork, it’s what we would say in New Zealand is pretty full on. So yeah, it was super cool.
And not that anyone gives out numbers, but I think I heard on the ethos that people [are] watching it, and it’s rating really high and at a time when we need this kind of beautiful love fest of comedy with a whole bunch of silliness to take us away from the disasters that are happening in the world. It’s been lovely. I just wish it was longer. I know people watch and rewatch and they’re so fanatical, but it’s just a comedy show, so to have any effect means so much to us.
In Season 2, Stede’s gone through a few transformations, one of which is that he’s a real pirate now, at least comparatively to Season 1. What helped you get into that new version of him? Was it the writing, costumes, or a combination of the two?
Yeah, the costumes are the first thing that comes to mind because once he starts wearing different gear, he looks at himself and goes, “Oh my God, I’m a different man.” And he really is turning from a man who is wearing these beautiful gowns with high heels and things inappropriate for a pirate ship to becoming an Errol Flynn-type hero straight away. That’s what they wanted to do with the character. So he’s lost a lot of that beautiful pageantry and is becoming a more practical guy who has to survive. He returns to this nightmare of a world because he wants to fight for love, and for want of a better term, “man up,” whatever the modern-day version of that is, “person up?” To become the guy that he dreamt of being in the first season.
He didn’t dream that he was going to fall in love with someone. He dreamt he was going to be this amazing pirate and that just was not going to happen. But then when he found this love, I think he went away from that [dream] going, “I don’t deserve this.” And then when he realized upon returning home that he does deserve it, he had to fight for it. And so the only way to fight for it was to drop the battle armor of the gowns and actually become the pirate he imagined being. So it was great to become that and to fight for that love and to thank god that [Blackbeard] didn’t die. He would’ve actually lost it, I think, because it would’ve been like, “Well, what am I fighting for now?”
I think it was just so fun to see that character change, but also within that change, see a bit of the old self come through, especially when he found that cursed red suit. And all of a sudden it was like, “Oh my God, the old me again, look how good I look!” So it was lovely that they had those elements… I was missing a little bit of the old Stede myself. So it was great to find that again. And then again near the end with the British invasion scenario where I got to do the big coat and everything, which of course looked awesome. You can see that moment where I put it on and did that slow turnaround. It was way more filmic shots of me wearing that kind of stuff. And I think that gave Stede's strength as well. So much of Stede's embodiment comes from the things he’s wearing.
Speaking of costumes, the big one of the season had to be Stede’s mermaid look. How did you wrap your head around getting ready for such a fantastical, and ultimately, beautiful scene?
That was the highlight of the whole season for me. As a kid, I used to swim around like a little merkid. I would put my legs together and I’d swim under the water. I’ve always been into mermaids and things because I’m into cryptozoology. So when I got to be a mermaid or a merman, I really took to it. It was pretty easy, to be honest with you. I didn’t have any training to swim like that. So the only training I did was some breath work beforehand to help me hold my breath longer. But that was kind of almost superfluous. Once I got that [tail] on, I just became a mermaid. It’s hard for me to describe how I suddenly become these things, but I think I just got under the water. I could swim really easily with it.
And I had weights on. So one of the things was we had to make sure I was the right weight so that I wouldn’t just float. That thing was sort of buoyant. So once we sorted that out, I could actually swim really well, and then just sort of hover underneath the water for a long time while [Taika]’s looking at me, I’m looking at him. To see it on the day, on the screen when I knew they’d got [the shot], there were just so many cheers, and I think they even played the music to see how the scene would work out. It’s one of those life moments where you go, “Oh my God, I’m becoming a cryptid again. I’m never going to forget this.”
This season really does focus even more on Stede and Blackbeard’s romance. How did you and Taika prepare for that? Especially since Stede’s more transparent about his feelings this time around.
It was good, and it was time. And because I was the new strong Stede, it felt really natural for me. I think it just worked really well with the writing because of the aggression that I was going through. When I was fighting that really bad guy [Ned Low (Bronson Pinchot) and] threw a violin at him because he ruined Calypso’s birthday, that was a good moment because it is not just about Ed, it’s about the crew, Stede’s family, and they were going through this amazing moment there, and all of a sudden this guy turns up and next thing we’re getting tortured. And I’m like, “How dare you?”
I think that progression of strength helped [Stede] break into the moment of, “I’m just going to take my lover as well now, and do something with him.” He probably had no idea what he was doing because it’s Stede, but it worked out and it was the right time in the show. Taika and I are really good mates, so it’s really easy to do emotional scenes together. As soon as we put our gear on, we’re just looking at that character, and we admire each other.
You and Taika have been known to improv on the show. Was there any improv moment from Season 2 you were particularly proud to see onscreen?
Yeah. Well, one, I noticed that some people are talking about that they thought was scripted, which wasn’t — most of the [scenes where] I’m with Taika are improvised in those emotional close moments — is on the deck of the boat where we’d do the thumb thing. That was all improvised on the day. So that was fun that we got that kind of stuff in. And there were some more little bits and pieces, but that’s one that comes to mind. That worked really well.
By the end of Season 2, Stede and Blackbeard have settled in to open their own inn. Do you think the peace and quiet will last in a possible third season, or will they get bored and want to rejoin the excitement?
Well, obviously as it stands now, it’s very lovely and it’s a nice positive ending, which is lovely for Season 2. But in reality, if you think about the characters, even in the fictional world, they’re both outlaws, they’re pirates, and the British back then… they never gave up. They did track down all the pirates and either hang them or get rid of them. There was only a couple that got away, and it certainly wasn’t those two. So I think what they’re thinking is, yes, this is bliss, but both those characters must be thinking, this is not going to last because you’ve got to sleep with one eye open.
Even though they’re in the middle of nowhere, they’re still in an area where everyone knows what they are, so they’re going to be tracked down. So I think if it was me, [they’d] end up back in action one way or another, especially if their inn is popular, which it probably would be. Word would get around. I mean, in those days, had you heard the Blackbeard and Stede had opened up an inn, [you’d have] to check that one out. It’ll be like Planet Hollywood.
There would be a wait-list, for sure.
Yeah, absolutely. Basically, they’re too famous now that Stede’s killed Ned and everything. He’s a famous pirate. So death is going to come to their door at some point. They’ll have to deal with it.
Do you think this version of Stede and Blackbeard’s story could avoid the fate of the real-life pirates?
Yeah, no, I think you’re dreaming if you think they’re going to live happily ever after.

I finished making new gear for a hypothetical Agent 4 storymode!
(Text on the back of the hypothetical box): As the head of security of Project Memverse, Agent 4 has been tasked to track down the Octolings still on the loose in the Deepsea Metro! Together with a recently reformed C.Q. Cumber, they will have to explore behind the scenes of Kamabo Co. to find and secure the victims of sanitization!
Using the Caught Shot, Agent 4 will have to subdue the Octolings that are still under Tartar's hostile programing! After that, they will have to transport their quarry to the goal using Containment Tank! Said goal is the Memverse entry room, housed in a modified train car. The SeaCURE.ity gear set will help them stand up against the immense pressure; both of the responsibility on their shoulders and the offensive launched against them by what remains of Kamabo Co! And of course the literal pressure, as they travel deeper and deeper into unknown waters...
(design notes under the cut)
C.Q. Cumber: The last two story modes have had a companion I thought it would be cool to use C.Q. Cumber! (Did you know it’s not just one individual?) C.Q. is one of the only characters with dialogue not to return in Splatoon 3, and he looks throwable! So, l would maybe make him be a portable bounce-pad, who returns to you when you jump on him. You could also make him the thing used for Broken-Armor Jump, if that’s a mechanic you’d want to return. He is wearing the hat from a plush zapfish!
Containment Tank: Based on a coffee machine, since the Spawners in Splatoon 3 are based on expresso machines! The jug that contains the octoling “ghost” is also based on a snow globe, since Octavio was contained by one in Splatoon 1 and 2!
Caught Shot: Based on a retro coffee grinder, to fit in with the tank’s theme! (Like the Splatoon 3 Hero Shot was based on a 3D printer (the fully upgraded one has a filament reel) and there were 3D printed monuments in Alterna.) The name is a play on their task, catching octolings, and hotshot, since Agent 4 is rumored to be the strongest in the squidbreak splatoon, and it's apparently also the name of an alcoholic coffee drink (I don't drink coffee or alchohol, so I didn't know that). Also following the naming convention of single-player shooters; Hero Shot, Octo Shot and Order Shot.
Earmuggs: Did you know the handles of mugs are called ears? Now you do! I included a cup-handle motif by the ears, and the springy thing is inspired by the edge of coffee presses.
Baristanorak: This is based of a coffee barista look, with an apron! The reflectors on the green part is meant to mimic the straps. I also kept the collar the same as Agent 4's canon outfit, since I think it's a big part of why I like their design. The wrist sweatbands are there to tie into the texture of the socks, and cuz I thought It gives the outfit a more recognizable silhouette.
Step-it-cups: They're actually just Luminous Delta Straps with the branding removed, don't tell anyone! Well, I guess it is keeping in tradition, since Agent 4's canon jacket is super similar to the Olive Ski Jacket, which was present in Splat 1 (and my favorite gear in that game).

Chapter 11
“Hey, there you are!” Spinner spots you and Tomura first as you step through the portal. “Twice is on his way. We thought you two were never going to show up!”
Tomura lets go of your hand and peels off his gloves, heading for the pile of gear that contains the rest of the hands and his coat. He put the hand he calls Father on his face before you left the apartment. “Kurogiri was busy.”
“Sure he was.” On the far corner of the wall, Dabi is rolling his eyes. “We all know what you two were busy doing.”
Your face heats up, but you’re behind your veil, and Tomura’s busy securing a set of hands over his neck, covering both the bandage and the mark you left on the other side. Nobody else seems too interested in joining Dabi in picking on you, although Magne’s ribbing him for supposed jealousy over his own lack of a cute girlfriend. Toga is studying you. “You changed your costume,” she says, and you hold your breath while she renders her verdict. “It’s cute.”
Compress drifts closer to investigate, too. “It’s an improvement. What’s the occasion?”
“We’re meeting somebody in an official capacity. I just thought I shouldn’t wear street clothes.”
Your costume upgrade isn’t much, and it took a while to put together. You’ve still got the grey veil and crown of thorns, but underneath it you’ve added a grey long-sleeved tunic you thrifted, leggings you bought, and boots you already had. Then you decided that the tunic was a little shapeless and cinched it at the waist with a red scarf. Worst comes to worst, you can use it as a tourniquet. You were worried about what Tenko would think of the entire effect, but when you showed him before Kurogiri came to get the two of you, you could tell he was pleased. Pleased enough to kiss you over it, although it took a while to make it work around the veil.
The aesthetics of your costume aren’t the important part. There’s a thin backpack over your shoulders, completely hidden by the back of the veil, which contains your best approximation of an EMT kit, and there’s a spare suture kit taped to your thigh, out of sight under the tunic. That was Tenko’s idea. He doesn’t want Overhaul to guess what role you play in the League.
And apparently he’s not the only one who’s been thinking along those lines. “It’s a good thing you changed your costume,” Spinner says. You look questioningly at him before remembering that he can’t see your face under the veil. “We were thinking. Shigaraki wants you to stay undercover, which means we can’t use your name in front of outsiders. And that means you need –”
“A code name!” Toga chimes in. “We all talked about it –”
“Nobody liked my ideas,” Dabi mutters.
You don’t even want to know. “And we all agreed,” Compress continues. “Unless Shigaraki has already given you one –”
You look to Tomura. This looks like it’s news to him, just like it’s news to you, and he only ever calls you by name. He shakes his head. “Excellent,” Compress says. Spinner’s idea was chosen. Spinner should reveal it.”
Spinner looks a little nervous. “We already use a nickname for you,” he starts, “but ‘Saint’ sounds really dumb for a code name. So we decided instead – Saintess.”
It’s quiet for a second. “That’s not a word,” Tomura says.
“It is! We looked it up,” Toga sings out. “It’s like actor and actress, or villain and villainess. Saint, Saintess. It’s perfect, don’t you think?”
You’re not sure if you like it. It feels like kind of a dig against you. More than ‘kind of’, if you’re being honest. “It suits your look,” Magne points out. “And your attitude, since the boss wouldn’t dream of letting you get your hands dirty.”
“My hands will get dirty the first time one of you gets hurt,” you say. “You have the important work. My job is to make sure you can keep doing it.”
“Spoken like a true Saintess,” Compress proclaims. “Shigaraki. Your thoughts?”
“Yeah. She’s your girlfriend,” Dabi says. “You really want to let Spinner name her?”
Tomura considers it for a moment. “If it’s a good name, it doesn’t matter who it comes from. And it’s better to be named by your friends than your enemies.” He nods to Spinner. “It’s a good name. Call her Saintess from now on.”
Toga wandered over to one of the windows while Tomura was talking, but now she hurries back. “I see Twice! He’s got the other guy with him.”
“Places,” Tomura orders, and the League scatters to the sides. He reaches out and links little fingers with you. “You’re with me. This way.”
The League arranges themselves on and around a pile of shipping containers, set up in a rough pyramid. Tomura settles on one just below the highest level, and you sit down on one just below his, slightly off to the side so you won’t block his view. Tomura looks dissatisfied. “You should be up here,” he says. “But it’ll draw his attention to you. I’m not risking that.”
“I’m fine where I am,” you say. You glance up at him. “How’s your neck?”
“It’ll be fine,” he says, which means it hurts. You’ll look at it later, once this is over. “What about you?”
“I’m fine. You did a great job with the aftercare.”
Tomura’s face flushes, and you remind yourself to be careful what you say. The hand over his face doesn’t hide him nearly as well as your veil hides you. “Tell me what your friend said about them again,” he says. “The Hassaikai.”
“The new head – the one we’re meeting – he isn’t liked the way the old one was,” you say. “Someone who worked for both of them called him a monster. After he left the gang.”
“Yakuza don’t defect. For someone to do something like that, it must be serious.” Tenko’s expression is grim behind the hand. He raises his voice. “Be careful. Twice is trustworthy, but the one he’s bringing isn’t.”
“Understood.”
“You got it, boss,” Magne says, winking.
“For sure, Tomura-kun!” Toga chirps. She’s the only person other than you who uses Tomura’s given name. “I can’t wait to meet our new friend!”
You wish you had Toga’s optimism. Instead, all you feel as the head of the Shie Hassaikai walks into the warehouse is apprehension. You know you shouldn’t. Everyone here is battle-tested, except you. Everybody here has a quirk, except you. They can handle themselves, and they have the yakuza boss outnumbered seven to one – and if things wind up, it’s your job to settle them down.
Overhaul wears a mask over the lower half of his face, and thin white gloves on both hands. Is his quirk in his hands, like Tomura’s is? He’s peering up at Tomura and the rest of you, only the barest spark of interest in his eyes. “So this is where you’ve been hiding. I expected a little more.”
“It takes some time for an organization to adjust following a change in leadership,” Tomura says. “I’m sure you understand.”
Overhaul inclines his head. “Of course. Still, I expected more from All For One’s student.”
His voice is dry, almost inflectionless. Tomura chuckles. “And yet you’re coming to me, not the other way around. Explain that.”
Overhaul’s eyes started on Tomura. Now they’re shifting, from Magne and Spinner and Dabi on one side to Compress and Toga and Twice on the other. Then back to Tomura. Then down to you. His eyes are still on you as he addresses Tomura again. “To my generation, your master was nothing more than a dark legend, but the elders believed we still had reason to fear him. It seems they were right.”
To fear him, not to fear Tomura. Overhaul’s not scared of Tomura, and he doesn’t seem worried about just how badly outnumbered he is. Your stomach clenches. “With All Might gone, the underworld is in chaos,” Overhaul continues. “And it’ll stay that way, so long as the question of who the next leader will be remains in doubt.”
“I’m the next leader.” Tomura’s confidence sounds unshakeable. “All Might fell because of the League’s actions. The heroes are rattled because of what we’ve done.”
He gestures at all of you. “We’ve got victories to our name. What have you got?”
“All Might didn’t fall. He was forced to retire. And it was by your master’s hand, not yours.” Overhaul’s gaze drifts across the League, lingering on each person for a few moments, you included. “Every time you’ve won, you’ve taken losses equal to or greater than the victory you’ve claimed. You still have outside help – you don’t look nearly as filthy as I’d expect for staying three weeks in a warehouse without running water – but it’s much less than you had before.”
“Congratulations. You have eyes.” Tomura’s voice is sharp. “But again – you came to us. Not the other way around. I’m the next leader. You can join me or you can stay out of my way.”
“Let’s assume you’re correct, and you are the next leader. What’s your goal?”
Tomura scoffs. “To expose the so-called heroic system for what it is, and bring it down.”
“How?”
The question rings out, and it’s met with silence. Too long of a silence. Tomura regroups, but not fast enough. “All Might –”
“One hero, who would have retired anyway. Others will come to take his place,” Overhaul says. “You have ideals, but ideals are useless without a plan. And I have a plan.”
Tomura’s jaw is clenched, and you see Spinner’s shoulders stiffen, see a blue spark flicker around Dabi’s fingers. Useless is never anything but inflammatory, and you know enough about the League at this point to know that almost all of them feel like they’ve been thrown away. You speak before anyone else can. “It’s nice that you have a plan,” you say to Overhaul. Nice isn’t the best word, but you’re thinking on your feet. “That’s less important than your goal. If your goal doesn’t align with ours, we should go our separate ways in peace.”
Overhaul studies you. “We do share a goal,” he says after a moment. “The destruction of the current system, and a return to the old ways. We can assist each other in that regard.”
“How?”
“My plan is sound, but my organization is small, with few flashy victories. In order to secure more support –”
“You want our name,” Tomura says. “Why should we loan it to you?”
Overhaul doesn’t answer him. “Put yourselves under me,” he says, and the League reacts exactly how you’d expect them to. Overhaul ignores them. “I’ll ensure you’re better taken care of than this. In exchange, you’ll reap the rewards of my plan to return to the old order.”
“And take orders from you?” Tomura’s voice is full of scorn. “I don’t think so.”
“It isn’t a request.” Overhaul shakes his head. “You lack the vision necessary to make your childish dreams a reality. Since your master didn’t teach you properly, it falls to someone else to rein you in.”
It’s not a request. If it’s not a request, it’s because he thinks he has the upper hand. Why does he think that? “Someone ought to rein you in,” Magne says. She’s on her feet, and a bolt of terror shoots through you. “I’ll put you in your place.”
She activates her quirk, and Overhaul’s yanked towards her from across the warehouse. It surprises him, but not enough. You see him yank off one of his sheer gloves, extend his hand, making contact with Magne’s forearm before her support item can strike the side of his head. He touches her, and then –
Spinner, Toga, and Twice all cry out, but it’s too late. You can barely make sense of what you’re seeing. Dabi looks up at you, shouts at you to do something, but Magne’s beyond your help, beyond anyone’s. Even if you had a healing quirk, you’d need something to heal, and the top half of Magne’s body is gone. All that’s left are her support items and her legs, which teeter horribly in place, twitching, before falling limply to the floor.
Everyone’s frozen – you, Dabi, even Tomura. The only person who moves is the person who’s close enough to contain the situation. Compress lunges forward. A gunshot rings out from somewhere, and you see his arm jerk as his hand makes contact with Overhaul. His quirk should contain Overhaul instantly, but nothing happens. Overhaul seizes him by the wrist with the same hand that killed Magne and blows his arm apart.
He screams, and the sound breaks your paralysis and Tomura’s at the same time. You both leap into motion, Tomura headed for Overhaul, you aiming for Compress, and for a few seconds, you’re running side by side. A second gunshot rings out, from the same direction as before. You know who they’re aiming at, whoever they are. You throw yourself forward, getting ahead of Tomura by a single step, and the bullet tears through your veil, sinks into your shoulder. It doesn’t hurt like you expected it to. It feels more like a sting.
There’s a third shot, but Tomura’s aware now. He dodges, closing the gap between himself and Overhaul, and you readjust your trajectory and race to Compress’s side.
The floor’s covered in his blood and Magne’s, but you drop to your knees at his side anyway. There’s an explosion somewhere in the offing, and for a moment, you’re dragged back to Kamino – but you aren’t there, and you’ve got a job to do. You pull your backpack from beneath the veil, unzip it, and start pressing sterile pads down over the open wound. Compress howls, tries to squirm away, but someone pins him in place. Spinner, who’s come to help. You don’t have even a second to thank him. Your entire world narrows down to finding a way to control the bleeding, to secure the bandages, to make sure the job Overhaul started isn’t finished on your watch.
You don’t see what happens with Overhaul. You hear pieces of it, enough to know that the Hassaikai is withdrawing for now, that Tomura killed one of them, that the not-a-request is still on the table and Overhaul fully expects Tomura to agree once he’s had time to think. And then he’s leaving. Overhaul is leaving, and Magne is dead – but Overhaul’s quirk isn’t what he did to Compress and Magne, is it? That can’t be it. If that was it, they’d call it something else. If that’s not all it is, is there something more he can do?
“Wait!” The words leave your mouth at a volume you didn’t expect, and Overhaul’s progress towards the hole he punched in the wall stops. He turns back to face you, and you seize the chance to speak before anyone else can stop you. “You can fix people, can’t you?”
Overhaul inclines his head. That’s as close to a yes as you’re going to get. You swallow hard. “Please,” you say, “bring Magne back.”
“Why should I do that?” Overhaul’s voice is flat. “He attacked first.”
“She did,” you admit.
“And Shigaraki killed one of my subordinates. Wouldn’t you say we’re even?”
“No,” you say. Overhaul tilts his head to one side, studying you. “You called the person Tomura killed a subordinate. Magne is our friend. We made a mistake, but you can save her. Please, bring her back.”
Don’t disagree with him, but make your point. Don’t look helpless, but hand him as much power as you can. Be respectful, deferential, but not submissive. Every de-escalation skill you’ve ever practiced flashes through your head, and it’ll all be useless if any of the other members of the League open their mouths, Tomura included. But they’re quiet, for once, and Overhaul’s still looking at you. What happens to Magne now is up to him – and up to you, if you’re able to convince him.
“If I bring him back, I leave a valuable piece in Shigaraki’s hands, and I’m not interested in rewarding bad behavior,” he says. You nod. He’s not saying no yet. As long as he hasn’t said no, there’s a chance. “So I’ll make you a deal. If you value his life so much, then I’ll bring him back – and you’ll leave him here for the police to find.”
Your stomach lurches. “Decide quickly,” Overhaul says, and finally, he looks away from you. “As the leader, Shigaraki, the choice is yours.”
Tomura doesn’t hesitate. “Bring her back.”
Overhaul walks past you without looking at you again, to the same spot where Magne’s legs and support item lay in a pool of blood. He peels his glove off his hand and touches the puddle of blood and tissue. You don’t know how to explain what he’s doing, except that he’s reassembling her body, piece by piece. Someone throws up – Spinner, who at least has the presence of mind to turn away from Compress before he does it. Compress, and his missing arm. Why didn’t you negotiate for that as well? You’re an idiot. You’re out of your mind, and Compress is still losing blood. Your job still isn’t done.
You don’t look up again until you’ve packed enough sterile pads onto the stump of Compress’s arm that they don’t bleed through instantly, and when you look up, you find the rest of the League gathered around, and Overhaul’s minions standing back, guarding the exits. Twice is melting down. Toga’s trying to console him, but she looks furious herself, and Dabi’s expression is masklike, frozen. Tomura crouches next to you. “How is he?”
“I’ve secured it for now, but he needs those arteries clamped off. Does law enforcement know his face?” You see Tomura shake his head out of the corner of your eye. “If we take the mask off and lose some of the costume, I can take him to the clinic. They won’t ask questions.”
Tomura nods once. “I’ve called Kurogiri. He’ll take you there. Can you stay with him?”
“We can’t stay here,” Dabi interrupts sharply, before you can finish saying yes. “Half the prefecture heard that explosion. Where are we supposed to go?”
“Back to the waystation.” Tomura answers before you can offer. You would have. He looks to you. “Meet us back there as soon as you can get away.”
Warp gates begin to appear, engulfing the other members of the League, and you start removing the identifying features of Compress’s costume. Hat, waistcoat, tie, mask, the one remaining glove. Now he just looks like a normal guy. A guy who’s had a really awful accident. You pack up your medical kit, put your backpack on, and start pulling Compress to his feet. He doesn’t resist, exactly. It’s more that he just doesn’t try. “Leave me here. I lost my arm. My quirk. There’s no point to anything anymore.”
You’ve lived your whole life without a quirk. It’s not the end of the world. Sometimes people with quirks say the dumbest things. You chalk it up to blood loss and decide to ignore it. “I’m not leaving you behind. We’re going to get you patched up and get back to the others.
The warp gate appears and you drag Compress through it, the two of you emerging in the alleyway behind the clinic. You barely remember to take off the veil and crown and tuck them away before you and Compress make it to the waiting room. All you can think about is how you failed to negotiate for Compress’s arm. All you can think about is how you had to leave Magne behind.
You figured it might be a while before you got back to your apartment, but you weren’t counting on all the complications – the clinic’s short-staffed, and in order to circumvent the policy about sending major trauma to the ER unless there’s no choice, you hop in to help and free up a nurse-practitioner with a quirk that helps blood clot to tend to Compress. Unsurprisingly, there are questions about how Compress got the injury. You don’t feel any shame in saying that a villain did it.
About four hours in, you get a phone call on the clinic’s phone. The person who initially answers it tells you it’s your sister, which sounds not-right – Isuzu doesn’t know where you work, and if she wanted to talk to you, she’d call your phone, not the clinic’s. You pick up the call and hear Toga’s voice on the other end. “Tomura-kun wants to talk to you,” she says. She sounds miserable. “Hang on.”
Tomura doesn’t sound much better than her. “How is he?”
“As good as he can be. Once he’s hemodynamically stable they’ll let him go.” You hear the questioning sound Tomura makes and define your terms. “Once his blood volume’s a little more compatible with life. How are things back there?”
“Fucked.” There’s a light thud. You imagine Tomura flopping back against the wall. “Twice hasn’t quit freaking out. Dabi and Spinner are climbing the fucking walls. Toga is – I don’t know what. You need to come back soon. I don’t know what to do.”
“As soon as I can. But you do know what to do.” You try to think. “Tell them that he won’t get away with this. That we’ll make sure he answers for it. Make them believe you.”
You think of what you’ve seen from the League so far, how they’ve gone from at each other’s throats that first night in the bar to ready to fight for each other now. It’s because of Tomura, because of who he is. “You’ve always known how to do that.”
Someone shouts for you down the hall – something about a patient who needs a pelvic exam. You wince. “I have to go. I’ll call when we’re ready for – wait, how are you calling me? Whose phone is this?”
“Yours. You left it on the kitchen table.”
You did. You’re not under suspicion, but you didn’t want to risk anybody tracking your phone’s location. “I’ll call when we’re ready for a pickup. Soon.”
“Soon.” Tomura hangs up, and you head down the hall to talk a patient into a pelvic exam they really don’t want.
The nurse-practitioner who was looking after Compress really doesn’t want to let him go, but you manage to talk her into it, and you and Compress make it back to the alley and through the warp gate to your apartment. The mood within the apartment is palpable. Sadness. Frustration. Fury. With the number of unstable personalities in the League, it’s a miracle that no one’s trashed the place yet.
Dabi is sprawled on the couch, but even he’s not so much of an asshole that he’d make Compress stand. He gets up, and once Compress is lying down, he climbs up to sit on the back of the couch instead. He peers down at Compress. “You look like hell.”
“So would you.” Compress looks pretty sickeningly pale. “I lost my arm and my quirk.”
“Your quirk?”
“He touched Overhaul. It should have worked,” Spinner says. “But it was after he got shot with one of those.”
He points at the coffee table. There’s a bright-red capsule sitting there. You’d say it was a bullet, except for the fact that it’s tipped with a needle. “What is that?”
“We don’t know,” Tomura says. He’s sitting on your kitchen table, legs crossed, elbows on his knees. “We need to find out.”
“I heard three shots.” Toga’s voice drifts out of the kitchen. When you take a peek, you find she and Twice lying on their backs on the tiles. “One hit Mr. Compress and one missed Tomura-kun. What about the third one?”
You become aware, suddenly, of a sore spot on your shoulder. “I think that was me.”
“Right,” Spinner says. “You and Shigaraki both ran. I saw you get in front of him. What happened to your quirk?”
You look blankly at him. Is it really possible that the League doesn’t know you’re quirkless? Tomura wouldn’t have told him. It doesn’t matter to him. You glance to Tomura. Tomura nods once, and you take a deep breath. No matter how many times you say it, it never gets easier. “I don’t have one.”
It’s quiet for a second. “Twice,” Dabi says, “pay up.”
“No fair,” Twice protests. “You bet she had a lame quirk, not that she didn’t have one at all.”
“Having no quirk is probably better than having a lame quirk,” Spinner says. You’d argue, except you have a vague idea of the hell that heteromorphs go through, and if Spinner would rather have your problem than his, you’re not going to judge him for it. “Healing quirks are really rare anyway. And I’ve heard they burn through tons of mana.”
“Even if you had one, it’s not like you could make somebody’s arm grow back,” Toga says practically. “Or somebody’s –”
She trails off. You know what she’s thinking of, because you’re thinking of it, too – what happened to Magne, something so sudden and catastrophic that it would take a miracle or turning back time to fix. You got a miracle, but you lost Magne anyway. Her arrest was reported on the news while you were still at the clinic. In the silence that falls, Tomura climbs down from the kitchen table and steps into the center of the room. “Three days from now I’ll tell Overhaul that we’re accepting his offer,” he says. No one says a word. “When we respond to what he did, we need to respond decisively. That means we need more information. And we need to know more about this.”
He points at the bullet on the coffee table. “Starting tomorrow, Compress will test his quirk on the hour, every hour, to see how fast it returns.”
“It won’t return.”
“We don’t know that yet,” Tomura says. He looks around at the rest of you. “Compress’s injury and what happened to Magne won’t go unanswered. But our answer will be the final word. Does anyone disagree?”
There’s silence. Tomura turns away and climbs back onto the kitchen table, assuming the same position as before. You check one last time on your patient, note that he’s shivering, and find a blanket to drape over him. Dabi is peering through your closed blinds, down at the street; Spinner’s sprawled in one of your chairs, lost in thought. Kurogiri is wherever Kurogiri goes when Tomura doesn’t summon him. Now that you think about it, it’s strange that Tomura didn’t summon him for the meeting with Overhaul.
You have questions about that. But as much as your feelings are pulling you in Tomura’s direction, you know rationally that it’s Twice and Toga you need to check on first.
You have a feeling they won’t react well to you checking on them. You’re not their mom or their sister. You head into the kitchen with the excuse of making tea and step carefully around and over them, trying to think of a solid opening line. “If you guys want somewhere to sit, I’ll arm-wrestle Spinner over that armchair.”
“Hey!”
You don’t know why Spinner’s getting wound up. In an arm-wrestling contest between the two of you, you’d almost definitely lose. “Twice likes the floor better. It’s cool and welcoming,” Toga says. She doesn’t open her eyes. “Sorry I said I was your sister.”
“You should have said cousin.” Twice’s eyes are closed, too. “You two don’t look anything alike.”
“I was on the phone. They couldn’t see me.”
“Sister was the right call,” you say. “I only have one female cousin, and she’s a villain.”
“Really?” Toga sits up, interested, and Tomura looks up from the kitchen table. “Why isn’t she in the League?”
“I don’t know that she’s, um, in your league,” you say. “Have you guys ever heard of Gentle Criminal?”
“That guy? I’ve met him! He’s a tool,” Twice says cheerily. “We were locked up in the same holding cell one time. The first time he went to jail it was for trying to be a hero. Your cousin’s with him?”
“Yeah, she’s his sidekick. Or videographer. Or something.” You’re understating it slightly. “I’m pretty sure they’re a thing.”
“Like you and Tomura-kun?”
“Not like that,” Twice disagrees before you can say anything. “The boss is way cooler. Saintess has better taste.”
“Or higher standards,” Toga says. “Or both.”
“What are their quirks?” Tomura asks. He slides down from the kitchen table and comes closer. “Could we use them?”
“I’m not sure about his. Hers – I don’t think so.” Your family thought Manami was quirkless for a while. When her quirk popped up late in primary school, they were thrilled. “None of my family are power types. All their quirks do is change things about other people – like status effects in a video game. My dad can change how people perceive time, so time-out really sucked when I was a kid. My youngest sisters can make people feel the same emotions they feel, which is terrible.”
Tomura makes a disgusted sound. “That’s worse than the twins.”
It’s not great, but on the whole, you’d rather deal with the triplets. “Those are all broad-spectrum. Manami – my cousin – her quirk is a power-up, but it only lets her affect one person. The person she loves the most. So unless her boss’s quirk is something really special, I don’t think they’d be much use.”
That’s true, but only halfway. You don’t want your cousin mixed up with the League. You don’t want anyone you know involved with them. You and Manami were pretty close, since you were the only quirkless ones in the family at for a while, and it was her running away to join Gentle Criminal that inspired you to shake off your parents and follow your own dream. You haven’t talked to her since, but ever since you found yourself a member of the League, you’ve thought about her more than usual. Wondering if she’s happy. Hoping she found what she was looking for, whatever it was. Praying she doesn’t get hurt.
The tea finishes steeping. Green tea. You remember Tomura likes that. You pass a cup to him, then down to Toga, and watch with no small sense of relief as Twice sits up for one of his own. When you look up, you find that Spinner’s come over, too. Once you’ve given him a cup, you call out to Dabi and Compress. “Do either of you want tea?”
Compress says no. Dabi, to your shock, says yes. “I’ll bring it to him,” Toga says. She hops up from the floor, takes the cup you pour, and brings it over to him at the window. When she comes back, she sits on the counter instead of the floor, and she focuses on you. “How many siblings do you have?”
“Seven.”
Toga looks surprised. “That’s even more than me,” she says. “Are you the oldest? You seem like the oldest.”
Not by much, but enough to count. Enough to make sure your childhood ended before it began. “How did you know?”
“Nobody starts out good enough to be a Saintess,” Toga says with a shrug. “You have to learn it somewhere. I’m the oldest, too. But I was never very good at that part.”
You have to learn it somewhere. You’ve never heard someone say that before, but now that you think about it, it’s true. You wouldn’t have gotten so good at keeping things calm, at smoothing things over, if you hadn’t had to. If tamping down your feelings, controlling the negative ones by any means possible, hadn’t been a necessity in your family, you wouldn’t have done it. It’s a personality trait, but not one you were born with. For a split second, you wonder who you would have been if you hadn’t grown up the way you did – and then you realize that you know. The lessons you learned set in before the triplets were born, but long before. The person you would have been is who you were with your best friend.
You push the thought aside. “How many siblings do you have?” you ask Toga. “Did you get along?”
She says yes, which makes sense. She’s outgoing compared to the rest of the League, and just like you learned from your family, she learned from hers. Spinner surprises everybody when he chimes in about his family, too – he’s a middle child, with one older brother and one younger sister. Tomura doesn’t add anything, but that doesn’t surprise you. He stays at the edge of the conversation, listening, and you keep one eye on him and one on Twice. If you wait long enough, you have a feeling Twice will talk about what’s bothering him.
You’re right about that. He speaks up in the next lull in the conversation. “I wish Magne was here,” he says. “She’s the only big sister I ever had.”
It’s quiet for a little while. Twice’s voice is small when he speaks again. “It’s my fault. I brought him there.”
“Nobody blames you,” Spinner says. “He lied. It’s what villains do.”
Nobody steps in to point out to Spinner that he’s also a villain, and something clicks in your head: The League thinks Overhaul is more of a villain than they are. Having seen what Overhaul did, you’re not going to argue. “He lied,” Tomura agrees. “Unless you have a mind-reading quirk we didn’t know about, there’s no way you could have known what he was planning.”
“Big Sis wouldn’t blame you.” Toga pokes Twice in the shoulder with her foot. “So you shouldn’t blame you, either.”
“And she’s still alive,” Tomura adds. “We’ll deal with Overhaul, and then we’ll break her out of wherever the heroes are keeping her. It’s not anything close to over.”
The situation seems like it’s resolving, sort of, and you have other stuff to do. You finish your tea, then make your way out of the kitchen. If you’re going to be responsible for caring for Compress’s injuries, you need to make sure you have the necessary supplies. And there’s blood all over your costume. You should probably change. When you shut the door to your room and peel off the tunic, it sticks to you, which is when you realize that your skin is covered with dried blood, too. It’s all over you, and the sight reminds you of something you wish the memory wipe had cleared away – what happened in the wreckage of Tenko’s house, when you tripped and fell and sprawled out in what was left of a member of his family.
You need to clean up. You need to clean up right now. You strip out of your clothes on the way to the shower, turn the water on hot, and throw yourself in before it’s even started warming up.
The cold water isn’t enough to freeze out the memory, and the hot water can’t burn it away. It’s your turn to throw up in the bathroom, and you do, on your hands and knees in the shower, trusting the water to cover up the sound. Your head is spinning again, between Magne’s death and Compress’s injury and getting shot and getting Magne back and outing yourself as quirkless and getting a new name – a new name, like a villain, like your cousin Manami except you’re all but useless to the villain you serve – and hosting the League for the next three days, and getting shot. You keep forgetting that you got shot. You keep forgetting how it happened.
It’s been clear for a while that you put Tenko above yourself, in a lot of ways. His memory above your sanity. His mission above your integrity. His needs over your pain. But today was the first time you actually put Tenko’s life over your own. Sure, the gun had quirk-canceling bullets instead of real ones, but you didn’t know that when you heard the first shot. You heard the first shot, knew who the second one would be aimed at, and threw yourself in front of him. And you did it without hesitating.
You don’t like thinking about that. You don’t like looking at it, either, once you’re out of the shower, wrapped in a towel and trying to patch it back up. It’s not a bullet hole – more like a puncture wound, angry and inflamed, with jagged red lines emanating from the impact point. You don’t like looking at it so much that you leave dealing with it for last, patching up yesterday’s injuries and getting most of the way dressed before finally facing up to it. You’re just deciding whether to use spray disinfectant or antibiotic cream when someone knocks on the door. “Just a second,” you say, and the door opens anyway. It pisses you off. “Out. If you can’t give me a second –”
The door shuts again, and a moment later, Tenko appears in the mirror behind you. His eyes are fixed on the wound in your shoulder, and without asking, he lifts the supplies out of your hands and gets to work. He does with the Neosporin over the antiseptic spray. In general, you’re pretty stoic about pain, but the spot where the quirk-canceling bullet struck feels like the worst bruise you’ve ever gotten, combined with an ache in your shoulder and arm that almost feel like you’ve got the flu. You flinch from Tenko’s touch. “Careful.”
“Sorry.” Tenko’s hands are barely touching you. It just hurts. Now that you’ve let yourself admit it, you have to admit that it hurts a lot. “This was stupid. Don’t do it again.”
Your stomach clenches. It’s not like you were expecting him to thank you, but – “It was necessary. We’d have been in big trouble without your quirk. And I’m your sidekick. My job is to –”
“Have my back. Help me. Be with me.” Tenko looks up from his work, makes eye contact with you in the mirror. “We’re supposed to win together. You’re not supposed to die for me. I never let that happen.”
Even when you were little, you were a little too realistic for the games you and Tenko played. Sometimes you’d imagine yourselves into a corner you couldn’t see a way out of, and in those cases, you’d try to say your goodbyes – and Tenko never let you. If I can’t save my own sidekick, how will I save anyone else? “Those were just games.”
“And now they’re real. Nothing else has changed.” Tenko’s much more careful than usual as he bandages your shoulder. “Did you get the other ones?”
You nod. And while the two of you are here, he’s got wounds you need to check. You unwrap the bandage without asking, just like he did, and inspect the scratches. For injuries incurred last night, they don’t look so bad, and you pick up into the same routine as before. There’s something almost comforting about the pattern you’ve fallen into with Tenko, of tending to each other no matter where the wounds came from. It settles your nerves, slows down the frantic spinning of your mind. This is why you’re here. To be with Tenko. And you are, so what does the rest of it matter?
You’ve just put the panic in its place when Tenko speaks up. “Don’t do it again,” he says. “Say you won’t.”
“I won’t,” you say. The words roll off your tongue easily enough, but they feel wrong, and it’s not until Tenko kisses you that you understand why. All this time, he hasn’t lied to you. Whether he’s Tenko or Tomura, he tells you the truth. You’ve just lied to him for the first time ever, selling it so smoothly that he can’t help but believe you, and it feels awful.
It’s not the worst part, though. The worst part is that you’re not sorry.

After reading your opinion of de sp/do comics, I saw a complain that I see a lot of people say about not liking the characters, and it is that they are the worst versions of DP and Sp (with the whole being billionaires etc)
What would be the best versions of Spiderman and Deadpool, in these two scenarios?
1) They doing their usual business while facing challenges and character growth.
2) They being their own ideal selves, they are in their best emotional, financial, heroic selves. (Although I believe this scenario may be similar of how they are in the time skip when they are parents of Elise)
i think there's a typical status-quo for spider-man and deadpool as characters that generally works well, and it's just - what we come to expect from the characters, and most fanon interpretation (and most comics) follow suit - that status quo is something like:
peter parker is broke and generally in a state of misery. probably single. underpaid. probably hated by the public. kind of grumpy. doesn't have a lot of patience for deadpool specifically. wade puts him in a sour mood. it's unusual, because usually spider-man is the quirky annoyance in the dynamic, but in this dynamic, spider-man is the sour-puss. it doesn't come out of left-field, though, we know spider-man is a bit of a bitch - even and especially with other heroes. but deadpool gets his gears grinding like no other. we don't know why he's so mean to wade specifically, but we have an inkling it's probably because wade reminds him so much of a worse version of himself.
wade wilson is chronically lonely and directionless. nomadic. kind of goes where the wind takes him. wants to be part of something. join a team. make a friend. annoy someone until they give in and begrudgingly hang out with him. wants to feel needed and wanted. wants attention. will wear ridiculous outfits and sing and dance and do just about anything to get people's attention. will commit murder to get people's attention. very little in the way of a moral code, except when it benefits him in some way. gets him recognition, gets him closer to people. it isn't all about the money - it's mostly about attention and praise and validation. wade wilson searches for something to give his life worth. he thinks money is a pretty objective signifier of worth, but the fact is, he's looking for something more abstract. which is why he's becoming more inclined to do good, even if it doesn't pay. he's looking for something to give his life worth. not to get heavy, but i think - deep rooted in wade's core, is a feeling that he shouldn't be alive - literally. he was meant to die. he was going to die, but he clung onto life. so he's tirelessly looking for justification as to why he's still alive. he needs constant reminders that his existence is worth something to someone.
so! that's their whole deal. i think. at least to me. if a piece of writing nails those things, i think they're 👌 primo pieces of spiderpool content.
of course, i love to see a stable wade and peter in the future - but fact is - peter's always going to be underpaid. and, well - i think wade's destined for that too. wade's most stable existence is going to be one of mediocrity but domestic stability. same as peter. i think that's why i love the thought of them - their victory isn't anything grand. it's a modest income that, miraculously, pays for an apartment in new york. a daughter. a trip to the bahamas, maybe, if they tighten their belts.

My personal Analysis and Rating of Cassie Sandsmark's hero outfits
Cassandra Sandsmark's first "official" hero outfit first appears in Wonder Woman Volume 2 #111
This look was created by someone called Anna Maria and it's just basically the shirt, shorts and vest Cassie was wearing when Diana is first in trouble and Cassie decides she's just going to go and help her as wonder girl. Along with what are just her regular clothes is some more practical choices such as goggles to protect her eyes she also wears them when skateboarding. The goggles also have another use which is to keep the wig she also wears in place. The wig actually is a call back to a wig Diana wore when someone else was being Wonder Woman. Cassie also wears the sandals of Hermes which grant her flight. The last piece to this makeshift ensemble Is the gauntlet of atlas which enhances her strength by ten and also helps to heal the wearer. I personally think this is on the way to a decent design for Cassie at the time. She has no powers at the time and while it isn't necessarily visually pleasing it works.
I would rate this just under her next choice of costume which first appears in Wonder Woman Volume 2 #113
This outfit has all the same gear as the last one ( Hermes's sandals, Diana's old wig, Cassies goggles and the gauntlet of Atlas) However she also has some new gear such as some elbow pads and kneepads I think we can safely assume she also wears these when skateboarding. Next are the Grey gloves, In WW V2 113 she starts off with two grey gloves but one gets disintegrated / badly hurt along with her hand. Her hand is later healed by the gauntlet of Atlas (it's been a while so I'm not totally clear on the details). In later iterations of the same outfit she replaces the gloves In young justice they appear as blue while in the Wonder Woman comics they usually appear as red.
In The main part of her outfit We see a shirt much like the one in her other costume but this one has a gold or red G ( the color really changes from comic to comic in what could be a printing error) I personally prefer The red G as it looks almost drawn on. I think the G looking draw on signifies just how early Cassie is in the hero game because she most definitely made the shirt herself. Cassie also wears some red shorts but these are tighter to the body almost resembling some short leggings or biker shorts. I think the shorts being closer to the body is just so much smarter because they are just far less likely to rip or get caught on something. I do wish they were made of a more thick material like jeans though because it creates almost more of a barrier.
The last change in this particular outfit is her vest , This vest is less worn and ripped than the first one proving it's an entirely different vest all together. I wish the vest had more pockets so Cassie could carry more things with her even if she doesn't bring them into battle all the time. In the Wonder Woman comics I think she holds a music player in them but I think it would be so smart if she also held bandages or first aid of some sort in there as well.
Later on she replaces the vest with an almost leather looking jacket in which case I still hold firm on wishing for her to have more pockets. I think at the point she replaces her vest she also removes her elbow pads but I can't say for sure.
Overall I think this is the best design Cassie could have made at the time and really speaks to how tactful she was at the time. I firmly believe that the safety precautions were more for her mother's benefit than her own though I don't think that it was a conscious choice. From how much of her gear comes from skateboarding really speaks to how careful Helena Sandsmark is because I don't believe Cassie went out and chose to pick up gear to protect herself when skateboarding. The elbow pads and Kneepads are one thing but the goggles just scream overprotective.
Its totally possible that Cassie consciously chose to add things to her costume so she was less likely to get hurt but I personally think she was just in the habit of taking extra precautions to protect herself solely for her moms benefit. Helena was so so reluctant to have Cassie be wonder girl and be a hero maybe unconsciously Cassie thought this might make her mom feel better about her being a hero.
Next is from the Sins of Youth event, Particularly Young Justice sins of youth # 1
Now this isn't Necessarily a different Outfit but since she doesn't have the Wig or goggles I Chose to include it. I don't love this Design on older Cassie. I could handle the kind of scrappily put together look on Cassie when she was younger but when she's older she's completely outgrown the costume and at a certain point the same design becomes childish and lazy. Since she didn't choose this as an older version of herself I will let it slide though
This next one comes from Sins of youth: Wondergirls
Now Cassie just switched outfits with Diana and I have to say, it's not that bad. While I wouldn't personally put an older Cassie in a complete replica of the Wonder Woman costume I love the idea of it being a main inspiration. Also I totally love a buff Cassie. If I was to redesign her and I couldn't change the main suit, or the boots I would totally give her earrings, a weapon of some sort, I would also elongate the cuff things and personally I would give her somewhat longer hair that was tied up in a ponytail or braid of some sort. If I was to totally redesign this hero suit though I would add some layers or at least some more muted colors.
Overall I don't actually hate this design and while it could definitely be better it could most definitely be worse.
The next hero suit is also from Sins of youth: Wondergirls
Now hear me out I actually adore the idea of Cassie in some sort of a body suit. I wouldn't necessarily put her in Donna's old suit as again it just screams lazy but I love the vibe I get from it. Now I don't know why but something about this suit just feels a bit off, I'm not at all sure what it is but something is most definitely missing. If I was to redo this I think ideally I would give her a weapon, do a deeper and darker red like a mix between wine red and the red in the current suit, like a deep scarlet or something. I would also lose the gold W belt because of its weird cut and replace it with more of a bronze or a rose gold belt, Actually replace the gold necklace with a bronze as well. As for the boots I don't know what to do with the boots because I hate the boots over pants look.
There is just something missing no matter what I try to think of to redesign it while still keeping the general outline of the suit and I just don't know what it is.
Overall I don't hate this suit it just needs minor tweaks as well as adding that thing that's just missing.
Next is a One-Issue hero outfit that Cassie helps her dream up in Wonder Woman Volume 2 #153
I think its important to clear up a misconception I've heard before, Im not sure where I first heard it but Its a misconception where Cassie says she hates wearing skirts. First of all No hate on anyone who said this I think it genuinely is just a misunderstanding, Cassie in this issue doesn't say she hates wearing skirts what she says is something about her mom would hate this outfit's miniskirt. Cassie has worn a skirt at least once before in cannon, Way before Teen Titans volume three. From my recollection it was in one of the Wonder Woman comics in a storyline where her mom follows a fake merlin somewhere because she's in love with Jason Blood and wants to exchange her soul for his or something. I think Cassie wore some tights or pants or something under the skirt but I'm not totally sure.
Now that I have cleared that up I hate certain aspects of this outfit and like others. Starting with the hair at this point in time I love the way she styled her hair with the ponytails and the goggles but I absolutely hate the color on her and the weird little Anakin Skywalker braid absolutely needs to go. Next the top half of the costume ( jacket, necklace and shirt). I think the shininess of the shirt is a bit odd but I love the black with the gold Wonder Woman symbol. A crucial part of at least Cassies starting designs is how at least one piece of it is Wonder Woman merch.
I think a lot of people forget that Cassie is a Wonder Woman fan who gets to meet her idol who she admires and later on becomes her pupil and sister. I think we as a fandom don't acknowledge that quite enough but I digress.
Back to the outfit, I love the jacket but I don't know how much I like it in a hero outfit. I love the armored shoulders but the cut of it looks like it's just about to fall off of her and I don't think at this point in time Cassie would prioritize fashion over function. I think if the sleeves gathered or suctioned in some way to her arm like maybe an elastic cuff it would be great.
As for the necklace I love it but I don't know how smart it would be for battle someone could grab on to it and if it didn't break it could end up choking or harming her in some way. As far as the gloves go I wish they were a similar cut to her previous gloves because again they just seem like they are about to fall off.
For the bottom half of the outfit I love how functional sneakers are except for the laces which could come untied easily, but I digress. I hate the unfunctionality of the skirt I adore the big chunky belt as well as the pattern and color of the skirt but I wish the skirt was shorts instead. It looks like a really tight skirt that would restrict movement and for a hero that fights with their body only I just hate it. I know that Cassie at this point mainly punches her way through problems but the ability and choice to be able to kick is always a good one. I don't hate the socks but I wish they were slightly shorter just as I wish that the skirt was shorts and the shorts were like literally half an inch to an inch longer.
Overall this outfit is great as an outfit but not as a hero costume as far as functionality goes but it really does have some strong starting ideas.
The next hero costume has two versions which I will talk about separately the first version of this costume first appears in Wonder Woman Volume 2 #153
Now I love the hair and goggles but I do wish the hair was a bit more tied up instead of free but I have no other note on the hair as for the jacket I love the look of it and it adds so much to the outfit but again it looks like its about to fall off. I adore a cropped shirt moment for Cassie as it shows she's becoming more and more confident in her own abilities and really growing into her own, though I could be reading into it too much.
This is the first costume we see her cuff things being added to the equation instead of the cuff of atlas or just bare wrists. I really do think the cuff arm band things are such an important part of an amazon warriors design and it's really so important to me and a huge step forward in Cassie's hero identity and skills. I love, love, love her belt as well as her jeans with the little stars. The nondescriptness of the belt draws attention to the stars on her pants much more than it would if the belt were patterned instead though I do wish the pant were baggy and the proper length instead of being cuffed and too long. I think the pants being to long could be asking for trouble when fighting, if the pants become uncuffed then she could trip or get seriously injured by an enemy. I know Cassie usually flies and punches but it's just not smart to rely on that solely, a good design should work whether she is flying or not. Finally for the shoes I can't really tell if these shoes are laced ones or not but if they aren't then they could be velcro which I just like more as they are less of a tripping risk.
The next version of the design comes from Young justice but I forgot to write down which issue number
The main differences in this one are the belt and necklace. In the Young Justice version she wears the wondergirl necklace she wore in Wonder Woman V2 #153 and I think thats just a fun little tie in but I think as far as function goes I still have complaints with it. As far as to what I prefer in the version I definitely like the jacket a bit more but I do wish it stopped or cuffed right before what seems to be her amazon bracelet things. I adore how neat her hair looks because there's like no risk to it falling into her face with is very smart for usability. However I definitely prefer the colors in the Wonder Woman Design Overall I prefer the wonder woman version but its definitely not a bad design
This next outfit has two versions again but I'll try to keep it more brief The first design is from Young Justice #35
Hair: I wish it was tied up It seems like it would just blow in her face when she flies
Necklace: I don't know why its gold now and honestly I can't tell if I'm a fan of the change or not
Shirt: love the craftiness being brought back in with the gold W and red G, It seems like it accounts for a lot of movement too which I love for her. It again shows she's becoming more confident and I honesty think that's great. It also doesn't regress her design by making her look younger and I think that's honestly due to the cut of the shirt, if it was a t-shirt I think I would hate how casual it looks.
Arm band things: Always a win to have these out and ready to use in the design I especially love that they aren't at risk of being covered and are instead proudly displayed
Pants and belt: love how nondescript the belt is and I actually like the red for the pants it almost shouts back to donna's all red suit and I think that's just fun
shoes: the shoes are literally untied here like kill me now. girl please tie your shoes or a least tuck in the laces
Additional notes: I miss the goggles and while I like the overall design I think just doing small things could elevate it to the next level
The other version of the design: Wonder Woman V2 # 166
Hair: Its tied up! I love that. Also the goggles ugh it's just such a win. I couldn't design the hair better myself
Necklace: same notes as the other design except for this version I definitely prefer gold. I am still worried about the unnecessary harm the necklace could cause though
Shirt: I think I might like the plain gold W better than the W and G. I love the maneuverability she has and how the cut of the shirt actually reflects her age, It doesn't age her and it doesn't make her look childish either and that's honestly so refreshing.
Arm Bands: The arm bands are out, accessible and I'm loving it.
Pants: while I will mourn the loss of the belt it's probably smarter to lose it, if you've ever been sitting down and just felt the belt you were wearing start to dig into your stomach you know what I mean.
Shoes: I don't think she's losing the laces anytime soon but at least they're tied
additional notes: I prefer this design over the young justice design again and honestly I couldn't have designed her outfit better. Side note, In the dialogue where she and robin first show up robin remarks how he misses her "old black wig wearing quiet self" to which she replies "hey I gotta be me" and I really love them remarking on her growth in such a playful manner its honestly great.
This next design has two designs again and I'll once again keep it short. The first design is from Young Justice 49
Hair: The goggles make a comeback and while I would normally complain that her hair isn't tied back the long bits are out of her face and I guess its okay ( a small part of me still complains and wants back the goggles with the ponytail but I guess its okay)
Arm Bands: Arm bands are out, accessible and shining. I couldn't ask for more as far as they're concerned
Shirt: I love the singular logo but the big zipper track and zipper loop are a bit odd, I don't really get why exactly they are there or at least why the big loop thing is there, I can live with the zipper track
Pants: I have no new notes on the pants
Shoes: Finally the shoes don't have laces! They don't seem to have to much of a heel either but if she wanted to be taller I kind of wish she wore some slight platforms or something instead
Additional notes: I know this is a well loved design and I actually have very little complaints.
Second version of design: Wonder Woman V2 186
Hair: Get this girl a headband or give her goggles back or something, is styled lovely but it is all in her face
Shirt: I prefer this shirt over the other one, it still has the word zipper but this time its less obvious and that's honestly so much better
Cuffs and pants: no new notes
Shoes: I think these are boots also but they have less of a heel which I definitely enjoy better
Additional notes: This outfit is basically the same cut wise I mean the pants are lower but the shirt is at basically the same length just on a more realistic body type. I prefer the hair aspect of young justices version but outfit wise I'm all for this version. Overall it's really classy. it looks like an actual hero outfit while keeping Cassie's regular clothes/ merch apparel items aspect.
The next one is from Titans/ Young justice graduation
Now this one seems to be a combination of The young justice and Wonder woman outfit from last time but Cassies hair is kind of braided out of her face and she now has earrings, in my opinion this is the better design of the two previous versions
Next we venture into Teen Titans territory, this next design is from Teen Titans Volume 3 #2
In my opinion this is just such a huge downgrade, It is worth mentioning that in the Wonder Woman version of this outfit the pants are red jeans and she has red star earrings in. Im just so not a fan of this design and honestly it's probably one of the worst designs for Cassie . I don't know how much more I could stress that this is such a downgrade and I hate it.
This is the first glimpse we see of evil older Cassie this next design comes to us via Teen titans Volume 3 #17
I hate this design this once again is basically bottom of the barrel. The gold boots, The huge belt and top gold breast piece, the weird tiara and that ugly blue skirt as far as future adult Cassie's go this is the worst.
The next design first appears in Teen Titans V3 #34
Now the gold breast plate thing is weird, especially in the areas it covers. but if it was just a bird the rest of this design wouldn't be that bad. the jewelery is nice as is the arm bands. I can't really think of anything else nice to say other than that I'm happy the jeans are back, I love that she has a weapon now. but design wise its still bad but its at least a step in the right direction.
Next is the final evil Cassie design ( Teen Titans Volume 3 #51)
I actually love this version, its now occurring to me that the headpiece might be meant to allude to old greek helmets but its not very well executed so its hard to tell, I honestly think the blue was thrown me off in the last evil Cassie design. This isn't how I would design a future Cassie but it could be worse. Its still on the low scale for me but its not that bad
Next is Teen Titans Volume 3 #65
I wish her hair was pulled back but this is honestly one of the better designs of the teen titans vol 3 for Cassie, I love that she has her lasso I wish she had stars somewhere on her outfit but its alright I also really like the belt I think its a fun little thing. Personally something is missing from the shirt for me but I can move past it.
Her Final Teen Titans design first shows in Teen Titans Volume 3 #88
Now I hate the boots over pants moment that we're having again, I wish her pants were baggier and I desperately want more star details. It looks like her hair is in some sort of half up, half down style which keeps the hair out of her face mostly. I think the design could be worse but I'm still not wowed by it
Next comes honestly one of my favorite designs (Wonder Woman Volume 3 #28)
Now I would only change one thing about this and It is I would cover her midsection, like have her be fully covered the way Donna and Diana are . Now listen Cassie may be knocked unconscious for some of these but just look at the design. Her armor design is so different from everyone's but it also mirrors Diana's in a way that is simply breathtaking. I could rant on and on about this armor design but I would mostly just be repeating how much I love it.
Next is sadly the N52 version of things and while I personally wouldn't choose a lot of the decisions that were made some of the designs aren't that bad
Teen Titans Volume 4 #1
I love the hood and lasso in this costume as well as the little stars hidden in the fabric where the shadows fall. If this were for a different character I would honestly be all over it and as it stands it's honestly not that bad. I mean the hood is just gorgeous even though I'm not quite sure how the construction of it works, and I love the way the lasso drapes on her even though I'm not sure how she gets it off to use.
Next is the semi-armored version of the first N52 suit from TT V4 #5
I love the armored look on Cassie she honestly suits armor so well and I kind of wish this was her permanent N52 look, or at least in Teen Titans V4
Next is something that was called like her armor within or something I wasn't really paying attention (TT v4 #8)
This armor is funky and oversized, even though her hair is tied up which I love it just doesn't look good. It has the potential to look good but it genuinely looks so bad.
Also from the same issue of teen titans comes this look:
This doesn't even look anything at all like her previous suits in any capacity and I think it's supposed to look cool because it's supposed to be all glowy or whatever. I think that the teen titan writers should have just stoped designing some of the characters at some point.
Teen Titans Volume 4 #12
Again if this was any other character I would be all over this design because the silhouette and overall design of it is just gorgeous but for my girl Cassie Sandsmark I kind of hate it. It just seems really out of character despite how gorgeous the design is.
Next is her second main Teen Titans V4 design
Something is just missing from this design and I think its that there's nothing interesting going on for the bottom half of the suit, The top is alright its not great and I'm still not a huge fan but it could definitely be worse.
Next is the dreaded Young Justice Volume 2 and onward design
I hate basically everything about this design except for the hair which I honestly think could be better. The midi skirt over the leggings just makes her look so young and I hate the reintroduction of that blue into her design I really can't stand this design and every time I look at it I want to cry.
This next one isn't a hero suit but I think we all deserve a good thing after having to look at the YJ Vol 2 monstrosity
Trial of the Amazons: Wonder girl
I just love this outfit on her I mean just look at the silhouette. I honestly think everyone should read trial of the amazons just to see Cassie get to play detective again it's honestly one of my favorite DC storylines in a while even though it gets a lot of hate.

Sword gays showdown preliminaries
Propaganda:
For Kazuma Asogi:
ok so he’s not CANONICALLY queer but it’s ace attorney. so… he does, however, canonically have a katana! a sword so integral to the plot it gives me shivers just thinking about it. the sword also has a name, it’s karuma (translates roughly to karma) and it gets passed onto the main character, ryunosuke naruhodo (who he calls partner), after kazuma (spoiler alert) dies in case 1-2. except (SUPER spoiler alert!) he isn’t dead! he comes back in case 2-3 and would you look at that he has ANOTHER SWORD, a more european sword (cause he ended up in england after his amnesia brain said he REALLY had to go to england). once he gets his memories back, ryunosuke gives karuma back to him and proceeds to use it to destroy the wax figure of his dead presumed serial killer dad (long story), and now he has, you guessed it, TWO SWORDS! for the next two cases he wears both swords at his sides, and also he broke the tip off of karuma attempting to murder someone (he didn’t actually murder anyone but still) and then turns out karuma’s hilt has the REAL serial killer’s will in it. very VERY important sword. in the end, kazuma gives karuma back to ryunosuke which is really symbolic but that’s besides the point, and they cross swords and it’s a whole big thing. 10/10 gay sword guy.
For Raiden:
Man catches knives with his heels and uses a sword to cut through robots 20 times his size
He's such a tragic character! Raised to be a super soldier from birth and is constantly being exploited by the government. As for the lgbt part him and his rival in the latest game he's in have so much tension it's unreal (gay). I headcanon him as trans too because he has a feminine figure, his voice gets more masculine as the series goes on (testosterone) and his entire body gets replaced with cybernetics (trans allegory...)
For Claudine Saijou:
Fights with a longsword! Should be number 1 for this line alone: “For heroes, there are trials. For saints, there are temptations. For me, there is you”, said to def not her girl crush but rival btw (stream Revue of Soul) Vote for my disaster theatre kid its what she deserves!
Her gay levels are off the charts. She has a homoerotic rivalry with another classmate (Maya Tendo/Tendou Maya) that is integral to her character, as she was always first until she met Maya. She’s also half-French, but that’ll be important later. When she’s looking at pictures of Maya stretching (to study her form of course) and another character asks her what she’s looking at, she panics, blushes, and says none of your business. Her and Maya have a heartfelt conversation while stretching with Claudine’s face pressed into Maya’s chest (between her stomach and breasts). Some art from a magazine has Maya pushing Claudine into a deep stretch, but it looks like something a lot different (Claudine blushing doesn’t help. Also I realized that there’s a lot of gay stuff related to stretching with these two).
During a two on two duel (I know it’s not a duel), they fight together. Not only that, but at one point they hold hands and take a pose typical of romantic partners in dancing. For no reason. They just pause and do it to show off. They aren’t even fighting. Anyways, when they lose, Claudine starts crying, not because she lost, but because Maya lost. So, of course, Maya starts speaking to her in French, with one of the things she says being “You’re cute even when you cry, my Claudine.” All of this is stuff that’s happened in the series (except the magazine thing).
Now for the gay stuff in the movie. Their duel with each other is so dense with sapphic undertones they can hardly be called undertones. For starters, the song that accompanies this revue is called “A Beautiful Person, or Perhaps it is.” While this title is incomplete, the director states that he wanted the watcher to fill it in and this removed the end of the original title. That title is “A Beautiful Person, or Perhaps it is a Love Song.” The duel is framed as a fight between a hero (Maya) and a devil (Claudine). Maya is in an outfit reminiscent of Renaissance Italy and Claudine is in a suit. Thus, Maya signs a contract giving her soul over to Claudine, as is the case with marriage. With her own blood, in the shape of Position Zero (an important symbol in the show), which happens to look like a T, for Tendou. After a few minutes of fighting, Maya disappears and monologues, appearing in a white dress. This means that Maya has signed her soul over to Claudine, and they are now both wearing a white dress and suit. Not beating the gay marriage allegations. Maya finished her monologue with “For heroes, there are trials. For saints, there are temptations. For me, there is a devil.” They continue to fight, Maya proclaiming herself emotionless and empty. Maya then cuts the medallion from Claudine’s chest (they wear medallions and you lose the duel if it gets cut off).
Claudine falls. Maya attempts to claim victory by stabbing her sword into Position Zero, which is then covered by steel doors. Claudine sits up and reveals she has another medallion in her mouth, which she does by sticking out her tongue in a uhhhh. Anyways, after a bit of back and forth, Claudine tells Maya that she’s full of arrogance and pride and envy and longing. She then says that “No matter how many times I die, I will revive! Tendou Maya! To beat you, my rival, into submission!” She then makes her stage entrance, taking Maya’s usual entrance speech and mocking it. She also says “I fill myself with exploding passion, now, and bash it into your heart!” After some talking, Maya makes her stage entrance, taking Claudine’s usual entrance speech and mocking it. Up until now, they have been playing characters, but still letting their own emotions shine through. Now, they are entirely themselves.
They begin to fight again, running downs white aisle before clashing swords, with Maya saying “Such an ugly, emotion drenched appearance-“ and is cut off by Claudine, who says “Show me more, Tendou Maya! Right now, you’re the cutest you’ve ever been!” To which Maya responds “I’m always cute!” The song starts up again (duels are accompanied by songs), with Maya singing “With a grin of deception I’ll tear this piece of cloth.” Deception in Japanese is mayakashi, a reference to Maya’s name. Maya then sings “I want to show you my feelings becoming dyed in black.” Black is Kuro in Japanese. Claudine, in Katakana, is Kurodine, with her nickname being Kuro, so that line could also be interpreted “I want to show you my feelings becoming dyed in you.” Claudine then sings “Only me, always, forever,” before they sing in unison “You only need to look at me,” as they lock blades. Some fighting happens and they’re falling through the sky, holding onto each others clothes and Claudine says “Only I can make you lay everything bare!” To which Maya responds “I’ll expose my everything, on the stage!” Claudine shoots back with “There’s a partner you can expose everything to, on the stage!” At this point, there’s a short time with independent vocals for Maya and Claudine in addition to their talking. Maya has been singing “If I’m on the stage, if I’m in front of you,” for the last two lines of dialogue. Claudine sings “Be it ugly or beautiful,” as Maya sings “I will expose, anything and everything, all of me, all of me.” As this happens, Maya is saying “We love the stage,” which is continued by Claudine saying “And we can’t part from the stage!” Maya calls them both “Pathetic clowns!” To which Claudine corrects “No, rivals!” Maya says “If you’re there, I have to strive higher!” Claudine says “You make me even more beautiful! Maya!” Maya then yells “Claudine!” Claudine yells “For heroes, there are trials!” Maya continues “For saints, there are temptations!” Then, as one, their swords crossed, faces inches from each other, yell “For me, there is you!” Over top of this, their voices sing a line in unison: “Forever and ever, I’d like to cross swords with you.”
Claudine’s sword stabs through the contract, through the Position Zero in blood, which may be Maya’s family name, and Maya says as an aside “Saijou Claudine… You are beautiful.” Claudine cuts the medallion from Maya’s chest, finally beating her rival.
