forbidden 5 am fanfic posting LETS GO
-
Genesis’ day had already started as normal as it could be. Wake up with his family, cook breakfast for today, and begin his trek to his office. He had an early meeting before the other two, and after the theatrics of having to leave them for so long, not that they minded, he was on his way. It was something...strange that made him stop suddenly, standing in the hallway where each of the First’s offices were located.
Genesis glanced around, his ears listening for anything out of the ordinary. He scoffed to himself, stretching his shoulders back, he was certain that...something had happened. But between the random aches and pains he was having now, he chalked it up to whatever the mako was doing to his body, as Hollander told him. As if that man ever told him anything when he asked. Trying to get any information from him, despite being under his care, was like pulling teeth. If it wasn’t for Angeal, Genesis doubts he would know anything medically about his own body.
At least he knew more about himself than Sephiroth did about his own.
“Commander!” He heard come from Angeal’s office, door wide open as he walked passed it. “Uh, sorry is Angeal around? He said he needed to see me?” Genesis looked over the 2nd Class uniform, and the spiky, black hair. He kept his face neutral, though he did have a distaste to hearing someone so loud already in the morning.
“You’re Angeal’s mentee, SOLDIER Second Class right?” He asked him, eyebrow raised up trying to place a name to face again,“Fair.” He added at the end.
It should have been illegal for the younger man to beam a smile as bright as he did at Genesis. It wasn’t even seven in the morning yet.
“That’s right! Zack Fair! You remember! I uh, I hope you don’t mind me stopping you, but Angeal- I mean, Commander Hewley messaged me at like, 4 a.m. to meet him as soon as the day started, and I figured that meant seven. Is everything alright?” Angeal’s puppy looked at him with concern written all over his face.
That wasn’t why Genesis’ brows furrowed down though in confusion. Angeal was sleeping right beside him and Sephiroth all night. If one of them woke up, it typically woke the others if they got out of the bed, even for a few minutes, so what does he mean at four in the morning?
“I, uh, sorry, I didn’t mean to keep you from your work-”
“No, it’s not that, Angeal wasn’t awake.” Genesis provided.
“Oh.” Zack got less concerned and more confused. “Soooo...who sent me this message?” He grabbed his PHS front his pocket, flipping it open, and showing it to Genesis. The First sighed, stepping into his friend’s office, and taking the phone from his hand, looking over the text.
The Man The Myth The Mentor: Zack, need to see you as soon as you can today.
Well, it seemed like a short and sweet message that Angeal could type, but Genesis quickly thumbed through any more messages from the mentor in question on Zack’s phone.
“H-Hey!” Zack called him out, reaching for his phone, but Genesis simply turned his back to him to finish, and then handed it back. “What’d you do that for…” He moped.
“Making sure that the way he typed was the same, and...it is and it isn’t.” Genesis crossed his arms, looking at Zack. “He didn’t say anything about meeting you today. I have an early meeting, hence why I’m here and not he.”
“That’s weird.” Zack pursed his lips, looking to Genesis for...something. Guidance from the First if he had to take a guess from this situation. He sighed dramatically, mumbling under his breath something about the Goddess, “Here.” he breathed out, pulling his own PHS out, and calling Angeal.
It clicked as Genesis heard, “Hey, don’t you have a meeting?”
“I do, but it can wait, your puppy is here waiting for you under mysterious circumstances.” Genesis replied with a small smile on his face, looking at the 2nd, who’s own face was looking back in concern. “Seems someone’s gotten your phone number or is playing a prank.”
“What?” Angeal said, becoming confused, “Genesis what’s going on?”
“Just come to your office before the dog starts biting the chair.” “Hey!” Angeal could hear Zack on the other end, the two had met briefly before when Angeal was appointed officially as Zack’s mentor, but this was their first time interacting with each other.
“I’ll be right there.”
“Good! See you after my meeting.” Genesis smiled sweetly to Zack as he closed his PHS, and pocketing it, “Now that that’s settled, I have a meeting.” He turned on his feet, waving a hand, “Let me know who the mysterious Angeal was, after.”
Zack, for all intents and purposes, had no idea how to take in what just happened. First he had gotten that message, and now Genesis, who worked with Angeal and Sephiroth closely together, was telling him he wasn’t even awake! He had an idea about their relationship, but didn’t trust any of the Shinra rumors that went around. They seemed close, and all had offices and apartments by each other, but that could also just because they’re the only First’s.
Zack sat back down in the chair facing Angeal’s desk, arms crossing over as he waited. He looked up, closing his eyes and humming, eyebrows down in concentration. The whole thing was strange. Did someone hack into Shinra’s data? If they did then what was the point?
The sudden thought that he might get ambushed or bombed happened, and he was too antsy to stay still, getting up, and out of the office as fast as possible and standing to the side of the door now. It was hard to stay focused as he waited for Angeal, but soon enough he saw his mentor, lightly jogging down the hall. Zack looked over at Genesis’ office door, across from Angeal’s, and then back at his mentor.
“Zack, what’s this all about? Everything okay?” Angeal looked over Zack, checking for anything out of the ordinary for the 2nd. Zack smiled with worry, rubbing the back of his head.
“Yeah, uh, I got scared staying in your office once I realized the message said to meet you as fast as possible, so that means it’s probably a trap? Ambush? Something like that.” He explained.
“Zackery, what are you talking about?” The name was more to grab Zack’s attention, and his voice clearly range in concern. Zack realized he’d have to take a step back.
“Okay, okay, so it’s like this.” He pulled out his PHS again, and handed it to his mentor. “This message was sent to me, from you. And I thought it was weird, but went along with it, and then I saw Genesis, and well, that’s how he ended up calling you. I was worried about it, and he was there. Then I thought about it, and how the message was apparently, not from you, and kinda psyched myself into thinking maybe something’s wrong with your office now? Hehe...heh…” He played off the laugh at the end horribly.
Angeal, for all that just got dumped on him, looked mostly just concerned, with curiosity as he glance at his office. When he made the move to go in, Zack started to speak, but Angeal held up a hand, and carefully swept through his office, looking for anything. Once he was certain there wasn’t anything, he gestured Zack back in with his hand.
“Looks good, not even Turk bugs right now.” He handed Zack back his PHS. “But Genesis is right, I didn’t send you that. So either we got one hell of a prankster, or something’s gotten leaked.”
“But what was the point of the message then? Was anything supposed to happen today?” Zack tilted his head.
“No, not really, we were getting a new batch of cadets in, but that was going to be an offer if we had time left over from our training session. Nothing else was scheduled today.” Angeal crossed his arms. “Regardless, go get your PHS checked out by the Turks, anything this high level being compromised is their turf, whither they admit it or not.”
Zack nodded, “So normal time for training?”
“10 o’clock sharp SOLDIER.” Angeal smirked.
Zack did a lazy salute as he pocketed his PHS, and made his way to the G.A.D. offices. He looked out at the elevator as it took him to the floors, thinking about that strange feeling he got just before he saw Genesis. He’d mention it after talking to whoever he had to deal with for his PHS.
Genesis didn’t get out of his meeting until after 10, so sadly, he wasn’t able to see his lover and new puppy to find out about the PHS message. Instead he went to annoy his other lover.
A knock on the door was all Sephiroth got before Genesis let himself in, a flourish of his arm, closing the door behind him, “Even if the morrow is barren of promises. Nothing shall forestall my return.,” He bowed dramatically, “What news do we have from the front?”
Sephiroth, to his credit, didn’t look up from his paper work or computer. He recognized each of his friend’s knocks by now.
“Do you actually want to know, or are you trying to waste my time?” He asked. Genesis sat in one of the leather chair’s facing Sephiroth’s desk, hand clutching at his heart.
“You wound me! I would never waste the great Sephiroth’s time.” Genesis smirked, and his theatrics earned him a small chuckle from the other. The general finished writing something down, and looked up with a small smile on his face.
“Angeal told me about the PHS message with his mentee. Did you really not check the room before leaving for your meeting?” Genesis made a sour face at the accusation.
“It wasn’t even seven, and the message had only said to meet him when he could. It didn’t say a specific time or place even.” His hand gestured in the air as he specifically didn’t meet Sephiroth’s curious and unimpressed gaze. “I figured whatever it was could wait until Angeal to saw it. If he was in any actual danger I would have fixed it.” Genesis had moved in the chair, lounging on it with one leg hanging off the edge. “You know I wouldn’t let anything happen to him...or his puppy.” He added.
“I know.” Sephiroth replied, “It’s just...odd. Angeal sent Zack to the G.A.D. to hand his PHS over.” The hissing noise Genesis made reflected how Sephiroth thought too. It wasn’t that dealing with the Turks was bad, they were easy to work with, for the most part. It was that they were still bugging and spying on everyone and everything. Nobody too important was out of their each. It made it difficult to have any privacy as people, let alone their relationship. There was a beat of quietness before Genesis spoke.
“Remind me to help him with materia training later then. He seemed pretty lost about the situation he was put in.”
“You’re willing to train him in materia?” Sephiroth raised an eyebrow at him.
“A puppy will stay a puppy unless trained right.” Genesis snorted. “I’m not becoming a mentor, Angeal has that situation well handled. But I won’t lie that he isn’t interesting.”
Sephiroth hummed at that, returning to his paperwork of schedules for the next month. They sat in silence, Genesis opening his phone, and Sephiroth working. A few moments interrupted by Genesis talking about the rumor mill, their fanclubs, the next showing of Loveless that they should go to together. It was nice, when they had these moments together. They come too far between recently.
It stayed like that for a few hours, Genesis only walking out to get lunch for them. As he was away, a different knock hit his door, and he looked up to see Zack and Angeal, fresh from their training. He offered them a nod.
Zack waved sheepishly as Angeal gently ushered him inside, and to take a seat out of the two chairs. “I’ll need to message Genesis, he’s already getting us meals.” Sephiroth said.
Angeal perked up at this, “Oh, I’ll do it, he’ll need to know to bring as much food as the take out boxes can handle from the mess with Zack here.”
The black hair teen rubbed the back of his neck, “Aw, come on ‘Geal, not in front of Sephiroth…” he complained a little under his breath. Sephiroth didn’t know if Zack just forgot about SOLIDER’s enhanced senses, or didn’t care if he actually heard. Regardless the general let out a soft laugh from his nose.
Angeal had a grin on his face, looking at his mentee, “What? He’s gonna know sooner or later with how much you pack away before missions.” He chuckled, messaging Genesis after.
Zack’s mouth was a thin line before cracking into a nervous smile, his eyebrows down in embarrassment. “Yeah, I guess you’re right.” He finally put his hand down from his neck, looking over at Sephiroth, “I promise it’s not as bad as Angeal is pointing out.”
The general hummed, “I would be surprised if it wasn’t, you’re growing after all. Even with your second round of enhancements.” He went back to look down at his paperwork.
“Yeah, which, gotta say, not a fan.” Zack grimaced. “They said I barley took to the enhancements again, like it was fighting my body despite all the checks they had to do, AGAIN, to make sure, I was, ya know, compatible.”
Sephiroth hummed before speaking, “You might just be on the cusp of incompatibility.” It sounded like Sephiroth was leaving something off at the end of that sentence, but before Zack could ask, Genesis was already in the room again, hand full of take out boxes filled with food.
“Goddess sake, I am never bringing this much food again,” He complained, setting the boxes down on the coffee table that was in front of Zack and Angeal. “Are you truly going to eat all this much?” He made a face at Zack, taking two boxes, and setting one in front of Sephiroth.
“Y’all are making me feel bad for how much I gotta eat now…” Zack pouted, letting Angeal find his own, and then taking the first box filled with food, and one of the forks.
“He’s a growin’ boy, Genesis.” Angeal replied, already digging into his food. “Just let’em get used to being an adult first.” He looked over at Zack, hand going to ruffle his long strands. “You need your strength for how many monsters have been appearing.”
“Yeah, I know, right?” He took the ruffle like a champ, attention already changed to the next subject, “If only they’d let me be in SOLDIER sooner, maybe I could have helped out more.”
“From what I know, it was because of your genetics, it’s possibly also why your enhancements went as bad as you said they did.” Sephiroth spoke up in between bites. “Who knows how much better or worse they would have been if you were any younger than 18.”
“You’re lucky to have got in at all.” Genesis said after a bite. He was leaning against Sephiroth’s desk, half sitting on it while he ate his own lunch. “If they waited that long...you joined when you were 16 right?”
“SOLDIER, yeah. But I was a Cadet at 13, took me a while before I got accepted into SOLDIER because of the written exam.” He groaned at having to admit that, but Angeal had already known, so he figured the other two might as well or at least Sephiroth did anyways with paperwork. He finished his first box, and placed it to the side of the box stack, grabbing the next one on top. “It’s not like I’m stupid or anything, writing stuff was just, never important back home for me.”
“Did you at least know how to read?” Genesis asked. If it wasn’t for his genuine questioning face, Zack would have thought it was to be an ass.
“Yeah, knew how to read and write before coming here, but it’s not like I had to use it a lot. I didn’t leave the village often, so no reason to write when you can just visit people. I read lots of books, but once I got older it was…” He looked up in thought, thinking. The others let him have his silence as they ate.
“It was like the letters got moved in places, or I read too fast and couldn’t actually read it, ya know? No matter how often I re-read it. I had to get some tutoring for the SOLIDER exam after I failed it the first time, but they were willing since I passed the others with flying colors.” The others nodded along, as they ate.
“Is that why your paper work takes so long to go up the chain?” Sephiroth asked. While he wasn’t smiling, he did have a soft crease of his eyes. Zack smiled nervously, but let out a short laugh.
“Yeah, sorry, I just, hate paper work because of it.” He kept his smile, but nodded at Sephiroth with his eyebrows creased. “I promise to get better.”
“You better.” Genesis noted, “Or else SOLDIER First will be slipping further and further away from you.” He teased.
Zack’s jaw dropped, as he looked between the three of them, “You wouldn’t do that just because I can’t read or write...Right?” He sounded so hurt.
Angeal almost choked on his food, trying so hard not to laugh, “No, no Zack. We wouldn’t-”
“Says the mentor-”
“And, we can help out now, rather than later. I’m sure it’s just some disability.” Angeal cut off Genesis, sending him a glare his way. Genesis smiled, and let out a huff.
“There is no hate, only joy. For you are beloved by the Goddess. Don’t worry puppy, we won’t let you fail, as long as you prove yourself.” Genesis put his own finished food down on top of Zack’s empty boxes. “Who knows, with our guidance, you might even surpass all of us.” The beaming smile Zack gave the red head made him grimace, “Really? You mean it?”
“You’d have to do a lot to surpass Sephiroth, much less Genesis or me.” Angeal said. The general only hummed at that, standing up and taking the empty boxes from the table and throwing them away. Genesis made a sneer at Angeal’s words but didn’t rebuke them. “So you better make sure your reports get turned in, on time.” He joked.
“I will!!!” The energy Zack had in that sentence was surrounding all of them. It was like they turned the dial up to 10. “I promise!” With how much effort he said it with, they all couldn’t help but believed him. Each one smiling to themselves.
-
“We’re going to check out the cadets that are being inducted today, either of you wanna join?” Angeal offered later, standing with Zack.
“No thanks, I have to finish this paperwork tonight.” Sephiroth was already typing away, not bothering to look up.
“I suppose it can’t hurt. I won’t lie, I am still worried about that message from earlier, so if you don’t mind, I’ll be sticking around both of you for now.” Genesis sauntered up to them.
“Good to have you Genesis.” Angeal smiled at him, and led his group away, waving to Sephiroth, “See ya, Seph. Let us know if you need anything later tonight.”
“Will do.” Was the response they got as they left, closing his office door.
The walk down to the first floors was met with mainly Genesis asking about Zack. He knew of him through Angeal, and officially met him once in passing when he became a 2nd Class, but today had been the day he actually got to talk to him much at all. His feelings over the younger man were neutral at most, though Angeal taking him as a mentor did spark interest. That and along with how easy Sephiroth got along with him. Zack didn’t seem to be as intimidated by his general as other SOLIDER’s were. So far his impression of Zack had been honesty. Not blunt, like Genesis was, but just open with himself.
As the elevator beeped their floor, Genesis asked, “So how are you with materia?” There was a glean in his eye. Zack knew about Genesis’ affinity with materia and it’s magic, and matched his energy.
“Oh man! Angeal’s been teaching me a lot, but from the guys in the materia lab, and from doing missions, I’d say I’m pretty good!” He puffed out his chest a little, making Angeal laugh under his breath.
“Oh, we’ll see how ‘pretty good’ you are after we see these cadets.” Genesis grinned.
That got a spring in Zack’s step, “What are we waiting for then??” He ran off, leaving the two First’s behind. Genesis with his mouth open in surprise, and Angeal chuckling as they both walked to catch up.
“Is he always like this?” Genesis asked, slighting disbelief.
“Yeah, anything with someone teaching him techniques gets him fired up.”
“You could have warned me.” Genesis scoffed.
“Why? I figured you two would hit it off talking about materia together anyways.” Angeal smirked at him. This was one of the few times Angeal had anything over his boyfriend. “Or at least steer you both towards it if necessary.” It wasn’t a secret about Genesis’ temperament, he could be a hot head, and they both knew that. “I only worried at first because of you, you know that.”
Genesis huffed, “Yes, well,” He crossed his arms, tilting his head, “You’re lucky your puppy is so accommodating.”
Angeal fully smiled at him, before they caught up with Zack, seeing the welcome ceremony. SOLDIER’s had no responsibility to come for the cadet ceremonies, as they had them frequently and often that it would interfere with their actual work. The main ball room had an over looking floor, which was where Zack was peering over the edge of precariously. He turned as he heard the other two approach, smiling.
“We got some cool guys this time.” He commented, looking around at the helmet less cadets. They were in their new uniforms, but without the helmets for now. Zach remembered when he first got in, they were being welcomed and congratulated into the army basically. Though everyone knew that this was where your first block was to becoming SOLIDER if you weren’t picked out by Turks.
The vibration from Zack’s PHS grabbed their attention however, as he furrowed his brows and opened it.
“Uh, Angeal?” He questioned, looking at his mentor, and holding his phone to his face. His mentor’s eyebrows also furrowed down, while Genesis peeked over.
The Man The Myth The Mentor:
Look down.
The man, who obviously didn’t send his friend a message, pulled out his own PHS, seeing nothing in his outbox ever being sent that day.
“I thought I told you to take that to G.A.D.?”
“I did!” Zack gaped. Then another vibration, this time from Genesis’ pocket.
The red head looked down at it with an annoyed face, glancing at the other two as the ceremony proceeded on. He made a frustrated noise at what he read.
The Man The Myth The Mentor:
Protect him.
Everyone had their phones out now, and looking between all of them, themselves, and then finally directly down, as the message said.
The only thing that caught their attention was a cadet with the fluffiest and golden blond hair they’ve seen. Zack scrunched his face in confusion.
“Cloud?”

I just think Jane Rizzoli and Celia Booth would beat the shit out of each other on ice in a hockey game and then laugh and drink themselves stupid afterwards
Wouldn’t that be nice 🥺
I bet their wives would enjoy the show at first and then roll their eyes, leaving early to go watch a whale necropsy video or something

"I should draw Māori Miku!" I said to myself. "Just a fun sketch, it shouldn't take me long" I said to myself. Six hours later I come to with this in front of me and a wrist begging for mercy but holy fuck worth it. I love this trend this was so much fun
PLEASE DON'T REPOST ON OTHER SITES!!! ASK ME FIRST!!!!!
DISCLAIMERS AND NOTES ETC.... I'm Pākehā, meaning I am not of Māori descent. I hold so much respect for Māori people, for their values and traditions, and for the fierce pride with which kapa haka is performed. I thought if I was going to design a Māori Miku, it makes sense to dress her in a kapa haka kākahu, as her whole thing is singing and dancing!!! The moko kauae is not based off any real person's. I referenced the temporary moko kauae a lot of kapa haka performers wear!! Was tricky finding out whether or not depicting her with a moko kauae was a good idea, so I went the safe route- showing an aspect of Māori culture without stepping over any boundaries!! Brown eyed Miku is everything to me shout out brown eyed Miku.... I referenced like seven different outfits to put hers together!! I really hope this looks accurate or at least passable. Thanks to adorkastock for the pose ref!!
