So I’m still trying to work on their backstories, but I think I got the main important bits that I can build off of later

Sorry that these aren’t as even as I’d like, but Asterios’s backstory came much easier than Leander’s. I still gotta come up with his home life & such, but for the most part, I like where he’s at!

Our big lovable himbo, Leander. About as tall as Eurylochus, but even beefier. He’s got the personality of an orange cat: dumb, crazy & happy. BRT you thought I was gonna say golden retriever, huh? But yeah, he’s also a golden retriever jcvskahd

He’s got strong Laios vibes, just sayin’

Would’ve absolutely eaten the lotus, are you kidding me? Even if he knew. Just a nibble! Just to see what it tastes like…

He’s honestly a jack of all trades & dabbles in a bit of everything, but he excels at sword fighting & spear throwing

Sees training as a type of game & goes all out on his opponents, then doesn’t understand why no one wants to spar

A disciple of Apollo, he really appreciates the arts & has a really nice, deep singing voice, but he’s surprisingly shy when it comes to singing in front of others

Loves the sun & likes to lay on the deck enjoying its warmth. He’s kind of a slacker tbh but he makes up for it when he does help because he’s so strong

So he falls in love with one of the nymphs on Circe’s island, & in the original show he ends up staying to be with her. But for my fic, he stays with the crew to go back home & is so lovesick, he gets on everyone’s nerves

But in the original version, he’s one of the few (maybe only?) crew that actually lives because of his choice to stay

They fall in love after he turns human again & jokingly says “man, I’ll miss being a pig. Well, it was fun while it lasted, right guys?” & everyone’s yelling at him & giving him shit for it & this one nymph thinks that’s just so funny

He doesn’t even know how funny he is, he just be sayin’ shit. & it’s one of the things that made her fall for him

Their love came on quick & strong. Think summer romance, opening of Grease, that kinda stuff. They’re so lovey dovey, & it’s all genuine!

Just a big ol’ teddy bear. A ticklish softie. You wouldn’t expect him to be so ticklish because of how big & strong he is, but just a few pokes can make him crumble

Has a very fun & goofy personality & never fails to make people laugh! Even if he has to tickle it outta them lol

Sometimes when his hair is up, his ponytail will brush his neck & he’ll giggle & whip his head around expecting someone to be there, but nope. He realizes what happened & looks around to make sure no one saw & if they did he gets all flustered & makes up some excuse to leave

You better hope he’s not in a playful mood if you go after him because he will turn it into a tickle fight, & he’s pretty competitive lol

He’ll help out if someone is trying to get someone else by catching them & holding them down. Likewise, if you want to wreck him, you better have someone to hold him down

He’s such a silly ler, & raspberries are one of his favorite tactics but the dude cannot take what he dishes out

His worst spots are his armpits, belly, thighs & feet, but he’ll be a giggling mess no matter where you try

So his backstory popped tf off ok it got away from me

He’s the son of Eris, goddess of discord & strife, hence the ear wings (a lot of her children had wing imagery & he can hide them by folding them & tucking them under the hair behind his ears)

He was unplanned & Eris cast him down to earth because she at least knew she’d be a bad mother for a half mortal. She may not want anything to do with him, but she does want to check up & see how he’s doing

His adopted parents found him washed on the shore of a riverbed, in a broken basket. He was there long enough that he’d fallen asleep, but he was still clutching a gold chain necklace in his tiny fist (his real mother’s necklace, & the only clue he had to go off of)

He was a terrible troublemaker growing up, & his parents had to actively teach him to be kind & thoughtful because of how he’d treat others & instigate fights. But his mischief leveled out to normal levels, & he was actually a pretty decent child all things considered

But just being around him can change your mood, where you’re more annoyed & prone to start fights, but he’s learned to control this

Grew up not knowing he was adopted, just knowing & feeling he was extremely different. He had few friends growing up, because his general aura is off putting & intimidating. So he just grew up thinking he was somehow wrong, & everyone hated him

His parents tried to tell him multiple times, but couldn’t bring themselves to confess. Especially his mom, as if telling him he’s adopted would somehow make him less hers, & make him feel isolated more than he already was. They also didn’t want to tell him until they knew who’s child he was, but they had no clue

They found out close to his 13th birthday, after finding a mural of Eris wearing the necklace that he showed up with

He didn’t take the news well & basically blamed himself for every misfortune their family faced. & then the spiraling of why didn’t his mom want him? Is it just because he’s human or was it something else? Do these parents even want him, or was he just a burden thrust into their arms? they adore him, but they know no matter what they do, he will always have that doubt in the back of his mind

Eris finally showed herself when he was 16, crying in her temple & cursing her name for forcing him to live like this. It went about as you’d expect (skirting all the blame, playing the victim, & saying how much better he is without her & how he should instead thank her for the way things turned out)

Eris at least had the decency to warn him about the upcoming war, & even proudly took responsibility. Basically just called up her estranged son to bitch & spill some tea & then peaced tf out. So after that he felt like he had no choice but to join the war

He feels incredibly guilty about the war because of what he knows. Like it’s his fault somehow. Once he gets close enough to Leander, I feel like he’d confess these emotions on a sleepless night

His feelings of being an outcast only grow once they’re shipped off to war, because at first he doesn’t feel like he can relate to anyone. Or that anyone even wants him around, he can feel people staring. But then this big dumb jock comes bumbling over, introducing himself & asking if he’s “excited to see the world!” & Asterios has to laugh because no way is this guy serious. But he was, & they’ve been best friends ever since. Every moody bitch gotta have a ray of sunshine bff!

They’re actually roommates lmao. But a few other guys also share the room

He channels all his rage into his training & fighting, so he’s really skilled at what he does. & he inherited divine strength, so even tho he may not look it, he could totally beat everyone in an arm wrestling match

This sad boy needs to lighten tf uuuup he’s always sulking or brooding

Either Leander or Polites were trying to cheer him up, & when nothing else worked they gave a curious squeeze to his sides & he kiiiinda freaked out (he kinda knew he was ticklish, but he’d completely forgotten because it’s been so long & it’s basically like getting tickled for the first time

Afterwards he lowkey can’t stop thinking about it because he’s never had the chance to cut loose & play with someone his own age like that. & it felt stupid & silly, but he can’t ignore the fact that it actually did make him feel better he refuses to admit it tho

HE’S GOT DIMPLES!!! You can’t tell in the pic cause of his stubble, but trust me, they’re there. But the crew didn’t even know for the longest time because he rarely ever smiles wide enough for them to show up

Tries to act like it’s childish & beneath him, meanwhile he’s internally trying to keep his cool so he can fly under the radar in it’s happening near him

If a tickle fight breaks out, he’s suddenly nowhere to be found. The whole thing flusters him, & the idea of him getting drug in is too exciting & scary to think about. Until someone eventually drags his ass into the fray

He inherited some of his mother’s powers & he will absolutely use them to his advantage when he sees fit. His powers are: super strength, super speed, telekineses, umbrakineses (shadow manipulation), & chaos/discord manipulation (control emotions & situations to instigate fights)

He managed to get a better grip on his powers & people aren’t constantly on edge around him, but when things on the ship get boring, he’ll spice things up with a little bit of his chaos manipulation. But he basically gives a random crew member a ler mood, & directs them toward a specific target

He got away with it for a while

His ear wings are his worst spot & he hates it so much, he’s already extremely self conscious & embarrassed of them, so the fact that they’re so sensitive feels like a cruel twist of fate. Everyone else absolutely loves that fact

His other worst spots are his knees, ribs, shoulders, & hips. Lanky boy has gotta be ticklish in all the boney places, it’s the law

I love when writers add flavour to their x reader stories by giving the reader different dynamics so much because it not only allows for us readers to explore different types of stories and facets of our personalities but also opens up for all different types of pairings;

The kind and soft hearted reader who is always open minded to the one character that needs that balance and compassion

The gruff and emotionally closed off reader who deserves to be comforted and feel safe instead of feeling constantly (emotionally or physically) on the defense

The elegant and poised reader who gets a character that compliments their grace and allows them to slip from their persona when needed while still not mocking or admonishing their poise

The nerdy and knowledgeable reader with a dumb character that still loves hearing them rant about their interests despite not understanding a thing because they deserve to be listened to

I also love me some dumpster-fire-wet-cat-found-in-the-back-of-an-alleyway reader and I think it's hilarious every time

Or with a himbo, honestly. I love me some himbo reader (I love thembo&bimbo but my preference is specifically for himbo, which transcends gender btw, all heart and muscle and no brain)

There really aren't many that I don't enjoy writing/reading. But in particular I'm really big on oposites-atract situations.

Like:

Zoro with a silly bubbly reader that makes him lighten up a little

Sanji with a romantically oblivious reader that his flirting just doesn't work on

Shanks with serious reader that struggles to keep the dumb himbo in line but still thinks he's just adorable

Buggy's overdramatic ass with an aloof reader that knows how to calm him down

Crocodile is an exception here because I wanna pair him with character/reader that's just as cunning and manipulative as he is and watch the whole thing catch fire, I'm thinking about it way too much and I'm bound to start writing him and Wren before long

And definitely Mihawk, as composed and high-maintenance as he is, with the human equivalent of an opossum. Just an absolute dumpster-fire of a reader. Acting all annoyed about it but secretly finding it endearing and feeling compelled to take care of them. Honestly the exact dynamic I'm aiming for with him and Karimi in Hearing Problems, with her total disregard for self-preservation.

I've never written a himbo reader since I primarily write female readers, but they're among my favorite breed of character in general. Janx and Lyon provide my himbo fix. Just writing dumb little drabbles of their interactions for my own entertainment.

"Maaaan." Janx spun the globe sitting on top of the desk in the captain's cabin. "I hate it when ovens explode."

"Again?" Lyon's brow furrowed as he looked up at his first mate, turning his own attention from a map also sitting on the desk. "Is that why you look like you've been on fire recently?"

"More or less, yes," he said, shrugging slightly as he continued his examination of the globe.

"And you caused it, I'm assuming?" He shrugged slightly again. "Wren's going to murder you in your sleep one of these days." He was met with yet another noncomittal shrug. Lyon shook his head and looked back down at the map. He frowned at it for a few moments before picking it up, crumbling it into a ball, and tossing it over his shoulder in annoyance, grumbling under his breath about coordinates before turning his attention back to his first mate. "You're paying for the new one out of your cut this time."

"But I spent everything in Jaya. We were out of whiskey, we needed more, so I took the liberty of purchasing it myself."

"The fact that you're the reason we were out notwithstanding—"

"And what are we supposed to do until I get the money?" Janx went on lamenting, ignoring the accusation. "Not eat? I can't not eat. The oven is in flames right now because I was being forced to not eat."

"But I feel like I need to be thinking straight," said Lyon, still blinking in a confused manner.

Janx opened the door and looked over. "Then you're too sober for your own damned good."

The crew didn't return until later that evening, and when they did, they found Janx collapsed in the middle of the deck, covered in raw egg, pieces of eggshell, feathers, and ink. He smelled of something like dirty mop water and looked as though he had been utterly defeated. A few stopped to snigger at him, but most just walked past and ignored him. Lyon stopped by him upon finding him and looked down at him, giving a snort of laughter.

"Learned your lesson, I take it?"

Janx managed to sit up and nodded. "I had to chase her all over the ship for five hours straight," he said weakly. "I'm so tired I could sleep for weeks. I've learned that the next time you tell me I'm babysitting your hellspawn, I should probably just jump ship and let the ocean take me."

SOLID movie buddy energy. since he's the first one to bring up lon chaney jr./the pentangle on the wall, I like to think he's a hammer horror movie enthusiast. and since we know that the two of them have been friends at least since the 8th grade, I find the idea of these two little dorks staying up late and catching reruns of the movies...........SO cute. so v v cute. jack's little 12-year-old ass insisting that they CAN'T MISS frankenstein meets the wolfman. no, david!! u can't go tf to sleep!! we need the LORE!!!! so anyway. he'd show u a bunch of old horror movies and point out all the weird lil details to u. get ready 2 be mst3k-ing every film. man has cable tv and chill written ALL over him.

I'm genuinely curious but why do you care if people headcanon that Arthur is himbo? I'm not trying to start a fight, sincerely. I'm coming from the perspective that we should let people have their headcanons, y'know?

Yeah, I get that! I guess, to answer this question, I have to talk about my philosophy (if you can call it that) when it comes to media consumption and my critical takes on fandom culture writ large. So if you have time, buckle up!

I should point out that I both don't care and care very much about people's hc's when it comes to my favorite characters. I don't care, in that I'm not going to get upset or get my panties in a wad if you headcanon something that is easily proven to be inaccurate wrt the canon. Like, if you want to headcanon Arthur is bad at reading, go for it. Lol, I'm not going to be upset or go out of my way to stop you.

However, I care enough to point out when this is inaccurate, especially when it enters into my sphere of fandom interactions. Now, this is where I get into trouble? A lot of people feel when I point out something is wrong or inaccurate, that I'm invalidating them or censoring them? Lol, like it's okay to be wrong/inaccurate. It's not the end of the world! If you choose to adjust your headcanons so that it's more canon compliant/accurate, then good for you. If you choose not to, also good for you! I promise, Lia isn't going to come after you :)

That said, in general, people need to be more open-minded if they're 'corrected.' Like I said, it's not the end of the world. Take the note and move on with your life.

Now, let's get to the larger, heftier part of this question. This need fandom has to transform their favorite man into a himbo (when he isn't) is a projection issue to me? Like, the unspoken assumption here is that it's safe and unproblematic to like himbos. Force this character into the himbo mold, and you can stan unproblematically! A couple of issues here:

As a Marxist, I should point out that there is no such thing as ethical consumption. It's fool's gold, and you're better off abandoning this all-or-nothing way of thinking and accept that life has its compromises WHILE still trying to work on yourself and your habits

Flanderization often leads to more problematic representation, as it erases the nuance that went into the writing of Arthur. He is a very complex dude. A lot of his sense of humor is subtle and off-the-cuff. Many people mistake it for genuine stupidity, and that's just... unfair? Like my boy did not just whip out witty repartee that belittles the presumptuous upper class of America for you to dismiss it as stupidity.

Now, as for himboism itself...

Okay, I love himbos. Kronk from Emperor's New Groove is a great and lovable example of a himbo? Big beefy dude with a big beefy heart but of very little brain UNLESS it involves his favorite pastime: home-making and cooking. Himbos aren't necessarily dumb, btw, they're just not considered conventionally intelligent (the way Yzma is). The charm of the himbo is that their kindness overpowers our traditional valuations of intelligence, and it reminds us that emotional intelligence (which, stereotypically is not recognized in cis men) is worth appreciating.

The problem here is that Arthur Morgan is both emotionally and intellectually intelligent. To overemphasize the former at the expense of the latter makes you miss a lot of his more complicated and unsavory personality traits?

For instance, one of the MAIN character traits (recognizable anywhere) of a himbo is that a himbo would never say a nasty word to ALL women. Now, don't get me wrong, Arthur is indeed a feminist who respects women, but a himbo would not be caught dead saying this line (credit to @papaue00 for reminding me it exists):

It's worth listening to how Roger Clark deliver those lines. Arthur speaks with malice here :)

Now, the point isn't, "Arthur is sexist! Cancel him!" Because that is NOT true. He's not sexist. Rather, he has moments where he gives in to petty malice? And he goes out of his way to demean her by bringing up sex work (i.e. she isn't a lady so she doesn't deserve his respect) to get back at the embarrassment and irritation he feels given the situation.

If you insist on him being a himbo and read him as only himbo, you miss out on his flaws. His flaws are key to understanding why he is the way he is; why he is perfectly capable of making his own choices and making the wrong ones. An unintended bias people have of Arthur as himbo (and therefore wholesome and unproblematic) is that they end up blaming other characters for his decisions. A famous example is Mary's missions. The fandom writ large tends to blame her for stringing Arthur alone, solely because he uses the phrase, 'play me like a fiddle' in his journal. Rather than reading that phrase as self-deprecatory (he's poking fun at himself while also expressing a vulnerable side of him that still loves her), they take that to mean she's manipulating poor helpless Arthur who is totally unaware of what she's doing to him.

Another example, someone wrongly attributed Arthur's pedantic interests to Dutch in one of my reblogs. Dutch and Hosea may have taught the boys how to read, but Dutch has no interest in botany. A quick conversation overhead between him and Lenny shows that his intellectual pursuits are actually just grandstanding and peacocking. He doesn't know and understand wtf he's talking about. Not once does Dutch even talk about botany. Arthur, though? Loves drawing plants. Can identify them. And he has a book of it by his bedside. Like, reading him as 'an idiot' sincerely (and not with a hint of irony, as Arthur does) misattributes his strengths and weaknesses to others, and that's just... unfair to the writers who WENT OUT OF THEIR WAY TO WRITE THOSE LINES OF EMULATED 19TH-CENTURY SCIENTIFIC PROSE!!! Like, people worked hard to characterize him environmentally. Don't let their efforts be in vain!

Do you see why I care a little bit if people mischaracterize him? It's like, I care in the sense of: okay have a good life. But I also care enough to point out an inaccuracy if I see one. I know it's more polite to not say anything, but it's also condescending of me to treat you like you're a child and just give a bemused smile from behind my screen. I think it's more helpful??? when I point out things you might have missed in game or are deliberately erasing when you choose to ignore the game.

I don't really care about being polite. I care about having good, healthy discussions and endless obsessions over my faves. So yeah there's your answer.

if we take scarian at their CORE dynamic, ignoring the angst (we’ll get to that >:3) and with the two of them at their rawest form as characters, my answer is nalu.

and no it’s not just because they’re my favorite fairy tail ship I promise — well, maybe it does play a small part :3

let’s look at natsu and lucy first here, and then apply scarian.

SO. natsu and lucy. very much the dynamic of “a follows b around and tries to stop b from doing something Stupid” but there’s more! natsu and lucy hold a lot of respect for one another, as well as trust. there’s this bond between them that goes a lot farther than any kind of label. it’s the way they know one another like the back of their hand, and their communication doesn’t even need to be verbal for the other to pick up on the message.

natsu can read lucy like an open book. lucy can Mostly read natsu like an open book.

lucy is the One person who can pull natsu back before he goes too far. and natsu encourages lucy when she’s close to giving up.

and their banter???? the way lucy tries to keep natsu from doing something dumb but somehow gets roped into whatever he’s going to do anyways?

lucy is very much natsu’s home, as evident by the number of times he’s snuck into her apartment. and lucy is Not quiet about her complaints about natsu. but at the end of the day, they have each other’s backs and I’m going to stop before I go Any Further or else I’m going to derail this ENTIRE thing.

already you kinda start to see the similarities between the two pairs, yeah? grian tries to stop scar from doing stupid thing, somehow gets roped into it anyways. and he very much complains the entire time, even as he helps.

scarian trust each other a lot. and you can see that in third life and double life. I know people seem to get on scarian about their “lack of communication” but in actuality their communication in double life was just fine. they’ve done this rodeo before. they know how to trust and communicate with one another without needing to do it verbally.

they know how to trust each other.

they hold each other as equals, they joke and banter and grian knows how to read scar very well. scar can… sort of read grian? but grian is a very complex character to begin with.

also scar just…. fits as natsu so well? dorky, lovable himbo who likes to burn things. also early ft!natsu with his chest out. gestures to scitties. enough said

and grian Mostly fits in that role as lucy. he’s the one pulling scar back (or at least trying to), complaining whenever scar tries to do something dumb but still helping him anyways.

scar and grian have a mutual trust and respect for one another, much like natsu and lucy do.

and I mean. C’mon. grian killing scar in third life? natsu seeing future lucy die? OR OR OR natsu and happy disappearing for like a year without telling lucy in person because he wanted to become stronger? grian pushing scar away after third life without telling him why because he didn’t want to hurt scar again?

Carver:

First impression: Okay, so I was active on the Bioware forums well before DA2's release and this actually inspired me to see what old posts I could dig up (do not recommend btw). I can officially find documentation of me being EMBARRASSINGLY thirsty as far back as November 2010. I wrote a drabble on the forum shipping him with my Tabris before the game released, lol, so ultimately my first impression (i.e, gonna latch on immediately) stuck. I did assume he was going to be a lot sweeter/less prickly/honestly blander than he turned out to be. I was expecting more of a himbo.

Impression now: He's my most special boy. Better than what I'd expected, which was a pleasant surprise. He is so full of conflict all the time, and I love it. He is delightfully prickly and also a big dumb jock and it’s the best.

Favorite moment: The scene where Carver and Hawke argue about Bethany stands out as one of my favorite video game moments, period. It was a moment that just reflected Carver's character so well: he's rash and temperamental, and he's hurting so badly as he struggles to find a new path for himself and cope with Bethany's death, he feels trapped and is stifling, he still loves his family fiercely, etc.

Idea for a story: I am actually getting around to writing all of my ideas! I finished my first Warden Carver/Warden Surana fanfic (shameless plug Never Free) which is mostly about an assassination plot against my Surana but also fills in the gaps of what Carver was up to during Act 2 of DA2, which I always love to think about. I've also always wanted to expand upon the Legacy DLC and give Hawke and Carver more chances to talk about their parents and Bethany (which I am also finishing up now: Failed Attempts at Simpler Lives shameless plug #2). I've ALSO always wanted to write about what happens to him in the immediate aftermath of Dragon Age 2, and how he reacts to finding out that Hawke was left in the Fade in Inquisition. I WILL GET THERE.

Unpopular opinion: Hmm, well, I hate the templar path for him? I've come up with better reasons to justify my dislike, but the real reason is that my taste for tragedy has weird limits and it makes me too sad to think that he gets addicted to lyrium. I don't really know how unpopular that is, though. Maybe a better answer is that my boy is BEEFY. He is built like a brick shithouse, and I hate when people draw him too lean.

Favorite relationship: His relationship to Hawke is the easy canon answer. She drives him crazy, she's irritating as hell, she's his best friend, he looks to her for leadership, he wants to shove her into a mud puddle, he would tear apart a burning city to make sure she's safe. Shipwise, obviously, it's my personal pet ship which is Carver hooking up with the Hero of Ferelden and Surana specifically. He HAS to get with a mage, he just HAS to, it's too delicious.

Favorite headcanon: He's incredibly Fade-sensitive, though he can't use magic directly. He can feel the Fade being manipulated around him and how in ways that most non-mages really can't fathom. For example, he can tell when Hawke is about to throw a fireball and he needs to get the hell out of the way versus she's about to cast a buff on him. He just attributes this to a lifetime of training with a mage father and two mage siblings rather than any innate ability. When it's pointed out to him that, no, this is pretty unusual, he just kinda scoffs and says anybody could figure it out if they tried hard enough.

Bethany:

First impression: Unfortunately I can't trace my Bethany opinions back to a series of embarrassing forum posts in 2010/2011. I think my first impression is what everyone's is: that Bethany is a sweetheart baby sister, a pure cinnamon roll.

Impression now: She's more complicated than the above. She's still a ray of sunshine, still kind and thoughtful, but she also carries so much anger and guilt. She feels just as trapped in a life she doesn't want as Carver does. Even more so, because at least Carver can hope to escape his circumstances: Bethany can't stop being a mage.

Favorite moment: ALL of her banters with Isabela. I adore their relationship more than anything.

Idea for a story: I wouldn't mind a story about her leaving Kirkwall after DA2 and ending up in Ferelden with the rebel mages. I would REALLY love a story where she meets a Ferelden noble (maybe a Cousland Warden?) who just falls hopelessly and madly in love with her and ultimately Bethany becomes a teyrna or arlessa or something. Give my girl the fairy tale she used to read about as a lonely child in Lothering.

Unpopular opinion: I can’t think of anything direct, though maybe my preference for a Mage Hawke worldstate (which means Bethany dies) could count?

Favorite relationship: The relationship between the twins haunts the narrative, to me at least. I picture each twin considering the other their better half and something irreplaceable is missing once they're gone. I am also a little bit obsessed with Bethany/Isabela ever since the banter that Isabela sends her naughty books in the Circle.

Favorite headcanon: That she allows herself to be caught and taken to the Circle. She surely would have heard that Bartrand's expedition returned to the city and probably believed Hawke to be dead. In a world where Hawke isn't a mage, Bethany has spent her whole life feeling guilty for what her family has gone through to protect her. Then both of her siblings die, and taking care of Leandra has fallen onto Bethany's shoulders. I think she has enough quiet self-loathing to believe that the best way to keep her mother safe is to remove the riskiest, most volatile thing from her life: Bethany herself. Plus Bethany is just tired of running, tired of hiding, and tired of feeling so very alone.

What is your favorite thing about them?

First off with the bi Himbo himself! His name is Athan and my favorite thing about him is honestly not what usually people would think. I love how petty and how despite being a asshole he is still charming. His whole thing is that he never believed in god but realized as one of the many bastard kids left to be raised by a whore mother in a brothel in the middle of what is pretty much like whore alley in a shitty unlawful like city right in the middle of two major kingdoms (one is based on like Roman and Greek stuff and the other is Arabic and Asian insipred) that hate each other and numerous times have gone to war. that he either was gonna be eventually be forced to be a servant or a whore because Surpise! He’s mixed Race between the white race and the brown race. And both kingdoms hate them mixed races (there’s actual lore reasons but I’m trying to summarize as much I can). But yeah he figured out soon as a kid the only way he could go past than a life in the gutter is to get any sort of schooling. But obviously he isn’t dumb so he quickly realizes that the only way to get said schooling is to become part of the church as luckily his magical core is Light (there’s schools for nobility and then the church also teaches their priests in training the same stuff.). It’s his best chance to have a life BUT becoming the part of the church is like where the shitty second horns of nobles usually go to and Despite being one of the only talented commoners ducking insults all the rich boys and legit is so blunt that half his class hates him. He is just in it for a good job and somehow he becomes a better priest than legit all his peers. Like he is petty and will make a douche embrass himself. (Literally how he became a ex priest is when the new head saint is like you are too rude to the nobles and he was like ok give me my retirement fund and the head saint was like WHAT THE FUCK.). He also starts numerous socialist movements by accident when he drank some wine. (Ps he has light brown skin numerous freckles and moles golden brown eyes.)

Next is Eis (my beloved). I love him so much because he is such a funny little ace spectrum (literally only had them feelings when he saw Athan being his gremlin self and was like oh shit) homosexual.he is introduced as this powerful Battle Mage that everyone is pretty sure is the next incarnation of the worlds evil god. And when you see him and his future man interact he is JUST- that one smart kid in your class that legit tried to make some dangerous chemical in the lab for shit and giggles. He looks cold and a bit condescending but he is totally a force of chaos and major only child syndrome I won’t lie. (He has white hair and pale skin with stormy blue eyes)

Next is our girl boss and mess of a human being! Cadenza the expelled student from like Alchemy College. She is just insane. My favorite part of her is despite her utter insanity she will go ram for those she cares about. Like the amount of loyalty this sapphic goober has in her. (Brown wavy hair with emerald eyes)

And finally the queen herself, aka Norturne a ex assassin that’s such a bro. My favorite part is despite being the supposed edgy one she is legit the voice of reason. And she can’t flirt to help her whatsoever despite looking like a typical Feme fatale that uses charm to screw over people, nope. She is just very mellow and socially awkward.

So yeah, there's The Quarry finished.

In retrospect, me thinking that there might be a cure, an alternative to killing, probably got more characters killed than anything. Note for next run.

Aside from the mandatory heterosexual bullshit, which, let's be real, it's pretty much the price of admission for any media not 100% made for a queer audience, I'm exhausted but I'm used to this, I did greatly enjoy it, like I have all of the Supermassive catalog. Let me get my replays of Cyberpunk and Andromeda, and maybe a play of another game, I'll easily go back in and try again.

Though I DID make a quality of life choice and disabled the "Don't Move" checks. Those screwed me over enough in Until Dawn for me to not want to deal with their bullshit again. And next time through, I'll probably turn down some of the other choices as well - The idea for first time is to do it with no takebacks or particular foreknowledge. Now that I know how things will play out with only my intuition guiding me, it'll be time to go with guides.

On a character level, though, I will say that Emma was easily my least favorite character of the group. Like her whole thing is saying that she doesn't want anything more with Jacob, but... She not only actively tries to make him jealous, she also is actively and intentionally flirting with him as well, so it's just... Clearly you want different things here, he wants a steady relationship and you want things to just be fun and casual, and this can't be justified as "getting the point across."

On the flip side, I feel like the narrative is basically out to make Jacob a designated whipping boy, considering the way that he is both easily killed AND quickly forgotten about by the others (like no one even MENTIONS him after he leaves the group, when no one even really knows that werewolves are involved). Like, I know he's responsible for the group being stranded there in the first place, but the karmic kicking he takes throughout the rest of the game...

Okay, yes, full disclosure, I do think he's cute and I have a tendency to forgive things for attractive characters, but still. It seems excessive to me. Like, it feels like the game, in knowing that it's a send up of like campy (pun intended, by both me and the developers) eighties slashers, stories where a character like Jacob would be defaulted as the hero, so here he's not just responsible for the problems by the narrative, but he's also both punished for it AND shoved out of that hero position by the characters more likely to be the hero in a modern story, but I feel like the writing goes so far in flipping that script on its head that it turns around to abusing him for the crime of... being a dumb teenager with no way of knowing that he's been put in the middle of a horror movie.

Seriously, I want him to just embrace the fact that he's clearly a himbo and needs a nice boy to get over the girl with.

And... the gay content. What there is of it. Like, on the one hand, it's handled in a way where no one ever comments on it, and while this IS a horror game sending up slasher movies, so the characters CAN end up dead, that's true up and down for the straights, too, so that's fine. But it's WEIRD how, once Laura appears in the group, she's thrown together with Ryan and even other characters comment on their interactions being "sparks," especially factoring in that Laura's primary motivation is her BOYFRIEND. Like, I can't even say that it's trying to make him seem not-queer, because it doesn't even make sense for either character. It's just a bunch of weirdness, like the writers couldn't give these characters interactions without trying to add that spark (which, given that I'm gonna go out of a pretty firm feeling limb and guess that the writers were all cishet, could easily just be the case).

Like, going back to the feeling of Jacob being written as the eighties version of the protagonist thrown into the modern setting and getting taken to task for his behavior, this feels like the characters' interactions being pulled from another story where they're totally meant to be together.

I mean, y'all know me, I'll call out forced heterosexuality in video games all the time, but this one is just WEIRD because it doesn't even make justifiable sense in universe that these two would be flirting, and I can see TV Tropes has an entry on it, which means even THE STRAIGHTS noticed.

Anyway. On the queer scale, this is probably no higher than a four. Taking that scale and applying the standard "media is so frustratingly heterosexual" curve, I'd still put it in a solid 8 to 8.5 range. If you have played and enjoyed other Supermassive titles, you'll enjoy this one.

what’s your take on the boys personalities? I’ve seen so many of them and I can’t really pin point yours yet!

This is a great question because I never really talked about it before tbh,, hopefully the way I’ll explain it will make sense.

For brick I wanted to mix my three favorite fan interpretations of his personalities into one, The narcissistic asshole who is surprisingly just as smart blossom, the amazing big brother/dad figure, and the goofy lowdown little shit (like in the original). I literally used to fight myself wondering WHICH PERSONALITY DOES HE HAVE,, but then I said fuck it and mixed the bitches.

The best way to describe him is a guy who loves his brothers with all his heart, who works his ass off to provide for them AND A GUY WHOS A MAJOR ASSHOLE. Like the fucker will buy you a present with his damn life savings one minute but the call you a ugly ass wrench and tell you to kill yourself the next. Like idk, I love that kind of personality for him. I imagine that he’s the kinda dude to put his all into the things he loves like his car, his brothers, and later on blossom. Idk I just feel like the lil dude is a perfectionist. I know if you hurt anything that he loves he will kill you, then your family, maybe even the dog if you have one🤷‍♀️. Yeah that’s right, real king shit, he ain’t feared for no reason.

Now let’s move on to Butch.

In my version of him, I literally just made him a crazy ass himbo. Like the man is the sweetest thing when you get to know him but other than that he is an absolute MASS TYRANT,, HE WILL KILL WITH NO MERCY (the only thing he might spare are kids) THATS IT. GOD PRAY YOU ARE NOT THIS MAN’S ENEMY. I like to think that even though he���s actually a really nice guy, he still have urges to hurt/hit things, even when he turns “good”. (Thank mth for that). Idk I just feel like it would make the most sense. But don’t forget, even with those urges he just likes making others around him smile and stuff; he also still really cares about his brothers and puts them above ANYONE else, even buttercup sometimes.

And finally, the last but certainly not least, Boomer.

Now for boomer, I really wanted to give him a different personality than what I usually see with him. In my version I made him a introverted reserved sweetheart who just likes to read books and play games. I just love the thought of the little man doing everything he can to stay out the spotlight to the point he’ll just make a fool of himself. I think I was really inspired to do this because of a character named, Marc, on miraculous.

I feel like he’ll really act like this due to to his anxiety and insecurities. Even though the boys were only joking, the “dumbest of the dumb” stuff used to really get to him when he was young. Plus he’s just a shy dude, and for some reason he think he’s the ugly one out of the brothers… and the dumbest… when butch’s STANKY ASS is right there but you know,, he’s just a insecure teen. Bubbles and brick will help with that later.

Also random bonus: I also love the thought of this dude literally running away from everyone thinking they hate him or something when most people just think he’s super cute and mysterious. Like imagine him talking to bubbles and saying, “omg why are they staring at me like that, did I do something wrong!??” But homie is just pretty and shit. Like oblivious boomer is the best boomer, prove me wrong.

Well, since you asked!

My favorites are All Might, Aizawa, and Present Mic.

These three are tied for #1. I love them all differently but the same.

All Might: First off, All Might is adorable. He may be conventionally attractive, but he’s still a sweet sunflower man that I adore. I don’t care that he looks like a skeleton or a nutcracker in his Small Might form, and looks a bit weird in his Big Might form, he’s cute! And that cuteness all comes from his personality.

He’s sweet, kind, gentle, loving, and genuine in all that he does. All Might treats everyone he meets with kindness and respect—minus a select few—while showing honest appreciation. Despite all his wonderful qualities though, he’s not perfect. He’s too self-sacrificing, he can’t always read people properly, and as a teacher, he made more than a few mistakes. But he doesn’t give up; he admits when he screwed up and takes steps to get better. This brings me to his arc;

For all the crap I give the story about Bakagou’s arc, I adore the detail and attention to All Might’s. He started out as nobody and became the most notable and powerful hero in the world—now he’s losing his power and going back to being a “nobody.” Instead of killing All Might—like most mentors—the story gives All Might a new chapter with new challenges to overcome. His time as a hero is over, and he can’t do what he did before, but All Might still has a purpose, and he can still help. He can pass along his knowledge, he can support others, he can use his All Might brain to help.

That’s another thing I love, All Might isn’t just a dumb “himbo.” He’s got muscles, but he’s got brains too. Big brains that he puts to use helping people. He’s not kind because he’s naive or ignorant, he’s kind because he chooses to be. And uses his brains to find value in all his fellow heroes, like Present Mic; Mic is a hero who gets zero respect despite being great at what he does. All Might sees the effort in what he does as an entertainment hero and genuinely admires Mic for it.

He’s also very funny. Despite having the weight of the world on his back like Atlas, he’s not all gloom and doom, in fact, he’s a very cheerful person with a good sense of humor. I also like how he’s not “innocent.” He’s nice, but he swears, he’s mischievous, he’ll tease people, and if pushed too far, he’ll kick ass.

I could go on, but I got two other characters to talk about. All Might is someone who could have been ruined so badly, but the story put the work needed into him, and I appreciate it.

Aizawa: I’ve talked about Zawa here;

Hizashi Yamada: Hizashi is someone who surprised me with how much I relate to him. At first, he was just someone everyone paired with Aizawa, but then I looked into his character and saw a lot of things I relate to. At first, we see that he has a wild and eccentric personality that’s extremely flamboyant. However, throughout the story, we see that while Mic is energetic, and a bit loud, a lot is going on in his head. He has deep emotions, but they’re pushed under a mask. He’s also the one more willing to confront hard truths such as there being a traitor in their mitts (not that anyone was willing to listen to him). He’s a loyal friend, and I wish we had more moments where someone—anyone at this point—would return the favor. I think there was only one moment in the entire series where someone asked if he was okay and only two—maybe three moments where anyone showed concern for him.

He’s a bit of a mystery with the real Hizashi hiding so well under Present Mic. I like watching his character trying to figure out who he is. In a way, he’s a puzzle, and there are things that pull me towards him that even I don’t know.

We just finished DuckTales so I would like to ask my sibling about his final thoughts. This will be similarly formatted as before. Also spoilers because we finished.

Did you like the twist?- Yes!! I love that Webby is actually part of the family now!! I always love found family and I understand that some people might think that it takes away that aspect but I think that it kind of is still found family in a way because they all still found each other and got a family dynamic before the whole Webby-Is-scrooges-daughter thing

Characters

Scrooge: I love this man. He is just amazing. He is just amazing and I never get bored of his stories of the past and when he goes on adventures he is also just a good father figure in general and always has something to teach the kids.

Donald: This man single handedly raised 3 mischievous ducklings while dealing with everything that happened with his sister on his own and then becomes a dad to May and June. He is one of the best dad characters and will always make me smile. He is also just funny and his temper is hilarious. But if I ever hear him with a normal voice again I will stab someone

Della: Soooo she is super cool space mom. Even though she only started raising the triplets way after they were born she still tries so hard to be the best mom and I love how hard she tried to get home to her kids. She is just so dedicated to her family and her children. She would do anything for her kids and would protect them with her life and I love her for being such a good mom

Huey: I really like Huey a lot. At first I kind of found him a little annoying how smart he was which now I love! I love when he just gets angry and snaps and it's just funny to watch him go insane every once in awhile.

Dewy: I relate to do Dewy the most which I really shouldn't because he's supposed to be like dumb but I still do like One he's the middle child like me and two and just think I'm most like him if lots of ways. Season 1 was really good because I just liked how passionate he was about finding his mom.

Louie: Louie I find to the most interesting one of the Triplets. Like season 2 was my favorite season because of Louie and his mission to become the richest duck in the world. I honesty just want to give him a hug a lot of the time.

Webby: I love Webby so much she is just so strong and I just also love how she is basically the 4th one. She is just a ball of joy and I would kill people for her. She deserves all the love and she has her family and friends who love and care for her and I'm just a sucker for it.

Mrs. Beakly: She is an amazing Grandma and how she puts up with all the kids plus Scrooge on a daily basis is beyond me. I just love how she took in Webby as her own even though they weren't actually related was just so sweet. I know she would do anything to protect Webby and probably the rest of the family.

Lanchpad: Mmmmm I smell himbo. I love Lanchpad so so so so so much. Honestly the amount of times I have wondered how he passed his flying test or even his driving test is beyond me. I just care about this duck and always have. He will never fail to put a smile on my face.

Duckworth: Mmmmm I just love how he acts with Mrs. Beakly and the rivalry thing that they got going on.

Penny: I didnt think Id like her as much as I do. When we first met her I just thought she was gonna just be in that one episode when we met her and that was it but I was happy it wasn't like that. I love how she has to learn to live on earth and I also love that she refers to Huey, Dewy, Louie and Webby as little Dellas (also I don't think that she knows that Webby isn't Dellas kid) and one more thing, Penny there is something you need to hear *plays Girls by girl in red* you're welcome :)

Lena: I care about Lena with all my heart. I just love how much she cares for Violet and Webby. She has been through a lot and deserves all the love. I think she's just cool and I also think her magic is amazing! I also really really really like the anime girl thing she got going on it's hella cool.

Violet: This is where I must apologize to Violet. When I first talked about her I really didn't like her but now I love her so much and I love how she and her dads took in Lena. I love just how smart she is and she's just an amazing character. Also bonus points for having 2 dads

Gladstone: When I first met Gladstone I kind of thought he was annoying but after we got to know him a bit more I find him really funny and kind of intriguing to watch and I just find it interesting how lucky he is like man can really find $20 anywhere he walks and just shrugs it off because it's just completely normal. Like I freaked out if I find like a quarter on the ground I be thinking I'm rich and here we have Gladstone, finding $20 wherever he walks. Also kind of off topic but comic Gladstone is so sad and I wish to hug him

Fethry: I really really wanted him to have more episodes like he only got 1????? HE NEEDS MORE. I fell in love with this krill loving duck and he only got ONE episode dedicated to him??? WHY

Daisy: Daisy is so amazing and we all have to give some credit, she went from just a fashion designer to having to deal with weird Greek gods, monsters, Donalds temper, literally adopting 2 kids and more. She has got to be one of the most mentally and physically strong characters in this show. She is the only modern day Daisy I will expect and there is no other ones. Nope. (3 caballeros Daisy who?)

Goldie O'gilt: I love Goldie most of my favorite episodes have her in it! I love how she leads scrooge on and is also just a great adventurer. Every time she is brought up or in an episode I know it's going to be great.

Panchito: This man is part of the reason my best friend thinks I'm a furry BUT ANYWAY I love him and this is one of those times when I wonder if I want to date him or be him. And I should not be saying that because... He's a chicken. But lets ignore the fact that I'm a gay trans disaster and get back to what I'm saying about him. He is funny but I wish we could of seen him more he also just has an amazing voice and I love everything about him. Once again I wanted him to have more screen time because I could never get bored of him

José: AHH OK so I want to play his umbrella and I want to just be around him. He seems like he could just be the best friend to anyone and I love that he's always with panchito and I just want the best for this parrot. Also I just like his feathers like a lot idk just do

Fenton: This is the other reason my best friend thinks I'm a furry (well along with the bad guys movie but that's not important rn) Anyway he is my favorite character! I love gizmo duck and I always get so happy when he comes on screen. He is just a ball of happiness and joy that never get bored of. He is just the perfect duck on earth and I will say that till the day I die. He is just *chefs kiss*

Gyro: Mmm Gyro my lovely probably gay trans chicken. I love that he's a salty bitch all the time and how he has a soft spot for his children (Boyd and lil bulb) and the other characters. He is the smartest chicken and I will always be happy to see him in a episode

Manny: ah yes Manny the man horse. He still confuses me every time I see him. How did he get like this? Why did he get like this? Why does Gyro have him? But I still like him a lot. Idk why but yeah

Boyd: BOYD I LOVE BOYD. He is so sweet and funny as well!!! And I just love how he was just adopted by Gyro. I love everything about him and he's just so CUTE I love himmmmm.

Darkwing/Drake: I will always have a soft spot for DW even if this is a different version of him. He basically was all I watched on long car rides to my grandparents house or driving to school and can quote like at least 1/4 of the episodes. As for this version I also really really like him! A Lot!!

Gosalyn: I love the fact that she's aged up and you can see how much she cared for her grandpa and how much it has affected her and how much she wants him back. The only complaint I have about her is her new design, I think she should have kept her old purple no. 1 Jersey bc I think I showed her personality better. I think the plain jacket is to...well plain just something a bit brighter would be better in my opinion

Gandra: I like Gandra, she's a good character BUT I'm not super happy with her and Fenton's relationship. I think I'd be more fine with it if we got to know her better and actually got to know her more, like one episode she's trying to kill the kids and the next time we see she's just kissing Fenton. I wish we got more of her from going working for mark Beaks and FOWL then to dating Fenton. I think I would of liked her more if we got to know her more out side of the villains.

May and June: I really like them and honestly I wouldn't be mad if they got a spin-off show with Donald and Daisy and their adventures or something or even like a little mini short so we can see how they're doing, I didn't think I was going to like them as much as I do because I just saw them as these clones that were going to mess everything up for webby and I'm happy that wasn't the case in the end!

Doofus Drake: I really really don't like him. He didn't treat Boyd well. He's a privileged little snot who I hate with a burning passion. He seams like one of the kids who would call you slur on voice chat games. He's also just...creepy

Ma Beagle: she's a good and funny villain. I always like episodes with her bc I know that she and her kids will make me laugh.

Beagle Boys: Basically the same as ma. I like just the vibes and how they seem so scary and strong until there with Ma

Magica De Spell: I love when shows make a really hateable villain and give them an actual good reason to be evil. For her it was her brother and what scrooge did to him and herself.

Flintheart Glomgold: so this might be an unpopular opinion I don't know but I don't like him at all. Not even as a villain. I mean yeah he can be kind of funny but honestly I just think he's annoying. Really really annoying. Like I don't really like any episodes with him. I have no idea why he's just not my thing. The only times I liked him were the glomtails intro (not the episode just the intro) and when he forgets who he is.

Mark Beaks: When we first met him I think my head went to was, "who the hell is this bish" he's like if all those obnoxiously loud gamers from YouTube became a bird that was a millionaire. He makes a really good character to shit on bc there is like nothing to like about and he's funny. He's is annoying and will make just want to punch him but in a way that I like. Unlike Glomgold tho cuz I actually like watching his episodes

Don Karnage: SKY PIRATE also who just tries to kill a child??? For basically no reason??? I like him tho he's funny and even though he's not in the show much his burning hatred of a child is beautiful

John D. Rockerduck: I'm like really scared of him for some reason?? Like man's is a walking corpse. Sorry I take that back. He can't even walk unless he has his weird ass Frankenbaby monster. Even though he becomes young again he still scares me way more that a cartoon duck should

Phantom Blot: I really like this thing he has going on with pepper like he is this scary thing that can steal magic and is big on strong but the moment he works with pepper he melts and would do anything to make sure she's safe

Pepper: honestly love her and should be treated better in my opinion. I love the little romance thing she has going on, sweat and demented/monster is one of my favorite ship dynamics.

Steelbeak: Ok so as a character and bad guy I guess he's fine. I just wish he weren't so dumb. Like I mean he's a super villain and shit but like come ONN they did this man so dirty. Look I just remember him from Darkwing Duck and he was smart. I know that he got hit with the smart ray thing but that was in the last episodes. But besides that he can be funny and I love that his beak is sharper than it was in Darkwing Duck

Black Heron: I don't really have to much to say about her besides the fact that I like her inventions a lot and her weird friendship thing she has going on with Bradford. Also I think that she was made really smart to make Steelbeak look dumber which I don't really appreciate.

Bradford Buzzard: I love the running gag thing he has going on where he constantly says he's not a villain and not evil even though he definitely is, and black heron is just like "you sure about that???" Then at the end he's finally like "okay fine I'm a villain"

Favorite Episodes: S3 Ep11 The forbidden fountain of the foreverglades:I like this one bc of the Goldie and scrooge stuff, we get to see them working together and being all sweet and young! I love at the end Goldie FINALLY kisses Scrooge.

S2 Ep4 The Town Where everyone was nice: Well I like this one for many reasons, it had my favorite joke in it, it had scrooge acting like a stereotypical old man, it introduced José and Panchito, and it had my FAVORITE screen shot out of the entire show (webby shoving all the food in her mouth)

S2 Ep7 What ever happened to Della duck: This was the first time we really got to meet Della and what her personality was. You get to see what she's been doing for 11 years trying really hard to get back to her kids and also just trying to survive. You get to see for the first time how strong she is

Favorite Joke: The ducks feeding ducks or being told Donald dropped an egg and Huey and Louie silently decide it was Dewy

Favorite Character(s): Fenton, Panchito, Goldie and Lena

Final thoughts: at first I thought oh this will be a fun little show to watch during the summer and then it turned more into one of my favorite things it was always really fun to watch all the episodes and I had a fun time writing all my thoughts down about the characters! I would 100% recommend watching the show. It might seem a bit weird because they're ducks but honestly it's really good.

I did really enjoy the episode.

Despite the rough intro of Chat noir with Scarbella, the episode did show off why Chat noir is a great partner. And I appreciate that. I also loved Scarbella’s plan. Solid plan. The last few minutes hit hard. And despite the sweet moment, we know s*** is gonna hit hard. It also makes Rocketear and Wishmaker hit so much harder.

So yea. 8.5/10

I am still annoyed at how easily Scarbella kicked Chat noir’s butt. (the competence of chat noir’s fighting ability is ridiculously inconsistent) BUT the main thing I wanted from the episode was there, that Chat noir showed why he is the heart of the team. And THAT is the part that mattered.
