I wasn't able to finish watching GotG Holiday Special but as soon as I can I will probably edit this but HOLY SHIT THE ANIMATED SCENE AT THE BEGINNING WHERE LITTLE PETER AND KRAGLIN ARE DECORATING THE CHRISTMAS TREE I AM IN TEARS ITS SO CUTE. And then Yondu comes and ruins everything but STILL

And I mean, in the previous movies you can't really see if Peter and Kraglin are close to each other or not, but now they're showing us those little bits where you know that when Peter started rambling about something Kraglin was listening and even remembered it and it's just so ajsjdhdudjndnkidndushnsk

I have some issues so yall are gonna have to deal with my dumbass.

the Arrow scene, While yes, having Kraglin learn how to control the Yaka arrow, I wish Yondu did more, like walked up to Kraglin and explain that he never used his head, that Kraglin was being to logical about this that he needed to use his emotions. (might draw later)

Stakar and the ravagers, we see another glimpse of how the ravagers work, they miss each other, but will abandon each other in hot water because they don't wanna deal (THEY HAVE 99 FUCKING FACTIONS THEY CAN DEAL WITH FIGHTING FOR ANOTHER RAVAGER). I feel that's part of the normal ravagers, where as with Yondu's clan it felt like a no man left behind situation.

Adam warlock was a little bitch during most of that movie, it was damn insufferable to watch him, even more than fucking Pratt.

THE FUCKING SPACED SCENE!!! God what the hell? Even tho Starbitch lost his connection to the light doesn't fucking mean he's weak as shit! He still has enhanced durability and strength! Also doesn't he still have his mask? like in gotg2 he had it broken but in endgame or infinity war he had it which was after gotg2. WHERE THE HELL WAS IT???

Kraglin needed to be a bigger role tbh.

Yondu's death and how it was handled in the following gotg projects is the main reason I think how Gamora's been treated is unforgivable. A funeral and two other follow ups to your death/to honor your importance vs "you're not dead, you just can't remember". It would take 2 minutes tops to have Mantis, Drax and Rocket say 2 sentences to eachother about missing Gamora. They don't even had to shed tears if that would be too much. Drax already hated Thanos for killing his family once before. Where was his anger.

vol 3 reduced Gamora from a fully realized character who was an equal partner in the story and interacted with the others and guided them, to mainly someone only Peter really knew. Carrying over her relationship with Nebula from Endgame is the only saving grace. Worse is that Peter talking about it is the only time the canon gives Gamora credit for being essential to the family's origins and by extension the franchise.

Also it makes me really sad that Zoe has probably given the best performance of the bunch throughout her entire mcu run and because Gamora's arc is such a mess it completely overshadows that by the time you get finished vol 3. In fact, imo, vol 3 was fire performance wise for but hits rock bottom plot and arc wise. Without her death or if they had ressurected her, I think she easily would have had one of the best arcs in the mcu.

yeah, when i was comparing the treatment gamora's death to nat's that was already Oof but now comparing with yondu is just...OOOOOFFFFFF. it's just sad seeing the characters not get a chance to rly express their grief for her ever :'( and i think only rly exploring peter's grief makes it seem like gamora rly just existed to be his gf, which i know is a whole nother can of worms of discourse happening in starmora land rn (and given all the circumstances in the film, i honestly think the way starmora as a relationship was handled was pretty solid)

tho we had the holiday special (and i did enjoy it!), i kinda wish we'd had some other gotg project (love & thunder doesn't count since they were just there for 2 secs to support thor LOL) between endgame and vol 3 to actually explore the fallout from iw/endgame a lot more, not just for the gamora situation, but, like, everyone else too. like i mentioned earlier, i think there's a gaping hole in rocket's arc (and nebula's but to a lesser extent) given where his arc left off in vol 2, then the 4 years that passed offscreen between that and iw, and then the 5 years that passed offscreen during endgame, and then ANOTHER 2 years passed offscreen between endgame and the holiday special/vol 3 (i think). i'd imagine losing all of the gotg would've affected rocket a LOT (like remember when he literally shot gamora so she wouldn't risk her life to save peter like lol) and then when they returned, surely that would shift the way he approached his relationships with them

similarly with nebula, i'm assuming she only stuck around with the gotg bc after endgame bc she'd become rocket's bestie for the restie (which i love) and also idk helped the avengers defeat thanos (? idk it also seems like the gotg were just kinda absorbed into the avengers for those 5 years and then became separate again after endgame, which would've been cool to establish more explicitly in canon) but given how uninterested she was in hanging around the gotg at both the end of vol 1 and vol 2, i think we needed to see more of how she went from that to practically being a de facto leader of sorts for the team in the beginning of vol 3

like i said before, i do think much of vol 3 was still very much firing on all cylinders, including the performances, but some of these holes in the arcs were still hard to look past. i know gunn said he wanted the film to be something you could watch on its own without all the context of the previous gotg films/iw/endgame (which makes me wonder how much that informed the way he approached things like the gamora situation) but i think including more story elements and references to past works that would've made vol 3 more dependent on the previous gotg appearances would've fixed quite a few of these problems

What If...? S2 E1 Review:

Damn, I missed this show.

I loved the Bade Runner vibes of this episode, the animation is still gorgeous, and Nebula (Nebby) is a delight.

It was cool seeing characters like Yon-Rogg again, I genuinely forgot that man existed up until he showed up, lmao.

Also this team:

It was so unexpected but the chemistry between them was so good. They were the right amount of silly and badass. (turns out that Korg is actually a fun character when people know what to do with him, and don't shove him in our faces)

Nebby in that Yondu-esque fit was *chef's kiss* immaculate.

While not the most engaging plot, it was fun for what it was and I'll never complain about more Nebula.

I have a ton of questions like "where was this planetary shield in the first GotG movie???" and "What happened to Gamora?" But if I ignore all of that, then it was an enjoyable watch.

Over all a decent start to the new series. I wish it had longer episodes tho, because that ending was kinda rushed... but that's a hold over from the previous season.

okay, so i just finished volume 3 of guardians of the galaxy, so here’s my thoughts:

rocket’s backstory killed me, im so glad he made it through the movie.

drax’s and mantis’ friendship was the best. they were truly the comedic relief type of friendship, while also showing that emotional but platonic bond and i love that for them! (also the way mantis defended drax against nebula)

gamora lowkey irritated me, but she was also super badass and savage. (also the way she protected rocket even tho she didn’t know or trust him)

also will’s character?? he was so fine in the movie and i really like that he got to redeem himself at the end of the movie bc i was really rooting for him and i kept getting the vibes that he wanted to be good.

gamora and peter’s tension and angst killed me so bad, i miss them.

also both mantis and peter leaving at the end? im sorry that made no sense?? like i support it and i’m glad mantis got to be able to do that for herself and peter got to go back to earth and reunite w his grandpa, but the end of the guardians hurts 😭 (ik they said it wasn’t the end but it still felt like it)

i love that drax got to kind of be a good figure to the kids.

and also, yondu’s cameo 😭😭

am i the only one who cried whenever i saw rocket’s flashbacks and when his friends died and when he ALMOST died and was about to reunite w his friends and also, AGAIN, yondu’s cameo made me bawl.

loved how badass groot was too, but groot and gamora at the end killed me bc we all know he misses his mom figure :/

and the closure scene w gamora and peter was so good but also not enough :(

and loved nebula’s development AND her friendship w peter!! (the way him and gamora were fighting and she said to nebula she was her family and she said that he was also HER FAMILY TOO, im crying)

also rocket’s and peter’s friendship?? the way he wouldn’t give up on him and neither would the rest of the guardians 😭

hmmm I feel so conflicted about gotg 3, I'm trying to get my thoughts in order

and idk, somehow the movie felt, disconnected?, from Vol 1+2. Tho idk if that's just because of much time passed irl, fucking Infinity War/Endgame (derogatory), or if my tastes just changed in the meantime (I was fucking obsessed with GotG after Vol. 2, y'all)

things I liked:

one complaint I had about GotG 2 was that they spent so much time arguing. And there was still some of that here, but it's fine now because more importantly there were SO many instances of them loving each other so much!! Verbal acknowledgements! Hugs!! 😭

Gamora.......idk man. This isn't this movie's fault, I've always hated how she got killed off in Infinity War. Especially considering how GOOD they were, not just Peter/Gamora but the team in general, look at them in the beginning of IW! But also, of course, because of the Peter/Gamora of it all. Fuck they broke my heart, they loved each other so much and now that person's dead

I wish there had been more Kraglin, I feel like he barely got to do anything :(

I miss Yondu.....maybe him being gone is what plays into this movie feeling different from the others?

I always loved how Vol 1+2 were pretty much disconnected from the rest of the MCU, you could watch those without knowing anything else about Marvel....that's gone now :/ (the more time passes the more Annoyed I am about the existence of Infinity War/Endgame)

okay, first of all it's an amazing movie there's no doubt in that but there are just two tiny things that are bugging me and maybe it's just because it's a DC movie and my dad basically punched it into me to be a marvel fan since I was 10. so, i did not like those shots were the characters were either falling because of a punch or jumping several hundred meters. it just looks weird and unnatural in my opinion. and the other thing... could they give her any less clothing?!?! I know it's very comic accurate but c'mon

I fell asleep for a bit and even my dad fell asleep, which kinda says a lot cause he never falls asleep during a movie (only if it's really late, which it wasn't. we finished it before 11)

I have to admit I think my rating would be a lot higher if I went into this movie with a different mindset!! I feel sorry only giving it 4 stars :(

aahh the feelings I got watching this movie. like I was 12 again... I love it and this movie. andrew garfield is my favorite spiderman and no one can change my mind.

god the memories I get watching this movie. I think since ultron, my family and i have been to the premiere/the first screening, whatever, of every marvel movie and for some reason this was monday midnight, no idea why... but we went anyways. my mom drank 2 liters of cola, we were home again at like 3am and everyone had to get up by like 7 the next day because of school and work.

Aly then told me that “hey remember that I told you that the little boy in Iron Man 3 comes back at one point? Yeah that’s at the funeral”

but I doubt I’ll watch it again

OH AND THEN SHE FLIES INTO FUCKIN SPACE WITHOUT A HELMET OR ANYTHING AND SHE CAN BREATHE JUST FINE???

it just makes no sense, it’s completely unreasonable and it makes her too perfect to me. Too unbeatable. I don’t like it.

okay hi again, it’s the next day and I’m still sad but here are some more thoughts: 

I hated the whole Bruce/Hulk think. All the good parts about each side of his character were just erased.

I don’t even see the purpose of it. 

Okay I kinda knew that Steve was gonna go back to the 40s, but I WASN’T SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT SO SHH

anyway, I didn’t like Steve staying in the 40s, and here’s why: 

he knew that this was the single one out of 14 million times they won against Thanos, so he knew that changing anything at all would fuck it up

but at the same time, I find it hard to believe that Steve could be aware that Tony and Nat dies and not want to do anything about it

even though he knows he can’t

so wouldn’t it have been easier to just go back to the present after he returned all the stones? So he wouldn’t have to live with that dilemma?

ALSO, I WILL NOT ACCEPT that after everything he did to get Bucky back, he just leaves him. Just like that. 

Literally the only reason this makes sense is as a setup for the Falcon and The Winter Soldier Disney+ series. 

But I still don’t like it

This was nice, I needed this. 

I didn’t like it as much as homecoming, but I didn’t expect to considering how much I loved hoco

it was really nice to see some more Peter Parker bc i love him but also like,,, most of it was traumatized spidey boy :((( and that was sad :(

the high school vibes were immaculate

not that I’ve actually been to high school in the US but like,,, it felt like a high school movie okok

but then I understood that that wasn’t happening so it’s all good

he’s a pretty cool antagonist. not a fave, but pretty cool.

he actually got some real nice character development that I had not expected, that was nice

i was SO happy to see the emh again. that man is baby and i’d do anything for him. but anyway i was watching the episode with captions and i caught this:

emil??? EMIL?????? is that his fucking NAME??? why are we giving him a name NOW? he’s been in two episodes already and y’all didn’t give him a fucking name!! we already named him diego, for fuck’s sake!!!

soooo idk what to do with this. i’m unfortunately the kind of person who likes to take the little bits of canon that we’re actually given and use them but i’m conflicted over this one. what do y’all think because i don’t wanna make this decision by myself.

anyway. the rest of my thoughts are below.

- okay. let’s start with the obvious. it wasn’t even 8am when i got to hugh’s death and my roommate was still asleep and here i am hunched over my computer sobbing uncontrollably. so eventually i had to just get up and go sit on the floor of the living room where i cried for pretty much 10 minutes straight. i really couldn’t let go of it for the rest of the episode tho so i think it’s a good thing that we saw will and deanna before it happened. i wouldn’t have been able to appreciate them at all and i was SO excited it was all i could talk about all week. i need more time to process this i think. mostly i’m angry that it was so senseless. the shock value did exactly what they wanted it to but im still furious. or i will be once i move past the initial grieving. i just feel.... really really empty inside. 

- his earlier moments with elnor were good. seeing him hold his ground was incredible and him mourning the xb was devastating and i didn’t even know what was coming. also i have to mention what he said right before he died. i dont even remember the exact words, something about having foolish hope again and thanking elnor for it and ok im crying again so im gonna stop talking about him lol  

- seeing will and deanna was great though! i love them and their daughter. i was glad at how much jean-luc got called the fuck out. especially deanna just saying that he’s not acting how he used to and telling him to basically shape up and be the captain. omg when soji pushed jean-luc and he fell into will and then will went absolutely feral??? iconic. gay legends only. i do love them so much and im mad that everything with hugh had to spoil it.

- i despise narissa with everything in me. i already hated her but none of it was personal until this episode. and narek, even tho this didnt directly involve him, is a bastard and nothing that he does ever again no matter any redemption they try to give him, will make me forgive him or like him or feel for him. 

- im glad we got to see what commodore oh did to agnes. i was expecting more direct manipulation/control rather than just convincing her that this was the right thing to do. it did make me super pissed off at her for just being sad and eating cake. but holy fuck i didn’t expect her to try and kill herself??? im glad the emh got to her before she died but now she’s in a coma and it seems like next episode she’ll be up and talking so thats a relief but there’s a little part of me that’s angry she got to live and hugh died. i know they’re not connected in any way but yeah.

- still on the train of thought with agnes and the emh... god i cant wait to write ANOTHER fic now addressing this, and the fact that he nearly had another person die on his watch (and how grateful he probably is that he managed to save her). 

- i still miss hugh. i think i’m going to miss hugh for the rest of my life. if yondu’s death still shakes me all these years later, this is going to be even worse. i’m sorry my baby boy, you deserved so much better. rest easy.

UPDATE: - so it’s been about 10 hours now and i’m still not okay, but since then, they released that video of del arco talking about hugh’s arc and his death and i’m still incredibly unhappy BUT i was relieved to know that he felt good about the way his story ended. it makes it a little easier to accept. but it did make me start crying like a baby again.

& mun.     this is p much word for word copied from my post on my multi because i don’t have the emotional energy to write any more. i’ll talk more about seeing will and deanna again eventually but for now, take this. it’s below a cut because MASSIVE spoilers.

- okay. let’s start with the obvious. it wasn’t even 8am when i got to hugh’s death and my roommate was still asleep and here i am hunched over my computer sobbing uncontrollably. so eventually i had to just get up and go sit on the floor of the living room where i cried for pretty much 10 minutes straight. i really couldn’t let go of it for the rest of the episode tho so i think it’s a good thing that we saw will and deanna before it happened. i wouldn’t have been able to appreciate them at all and i was SO excited it was all i could talk about all week. i need more time to process this i think. mostly i’m angry that it was so senseless. the shock value did exactly what they wanted it to but im still furious. or i will be once i move past the initial grieving. i just feel…. really really empty inside.

- his earlier moments with elnor were good. seeing him hold his ground was incredible and him mourning the xb was devastating and i didn’t even know what was coming. also i have to mention what he said right before he died. i dont even remember the exact words, something about having foolish hope again and thanking elnor for it and ok im crying again so im gonna stop talking about him lol  

- seeing will and deanna was great though! i love them and their daughter. i was glad at how much jean-luc got called the fuck out. especially deanna just saying that he’s not acting how he used to and telling him to basically shape up and be the captain. omg when soji pushed jean-luc and he fell into will and then will went absolutely feral??? iconic. gay legends only. i do love them so much and im mad that everything with hugh had to spoil it.

- i despise narissa with everything in me. i already hated her but none of it was personal until this episode. and narek, even tho this didnt directly involve him, is a bastard and nothing that he does ever again no matter any redemption they try to give him, will make me forgive him or like him or feel for him.

- im glad we got to see what commodore oh did to agnes. i was expecting more direct manipulation/control rather than just convincing her that this was the right thing to do. it did make me super pissed off at her for just being sad and eating cake. but holy fuck i didn’t expect her to try and kill herself??? im glad the emh got to her before she died but now she’s in a coma and it seems like next episode she’ll be up and talking so thats a relief but there’s a little part of me that’s angry she got to live and hugh died. i know they’re not connected in any way but yeah.

- still on the train of thought with agnes and the emh (whose name is emil apparently??)… god i cant wait to write ANOTHER fic now addressing this, and the fact that he nearly had another person die on his watch (and how grateful he probably is that he managed to save her).

- i still miss hugh. i think i’m going to miss hugh for the rest of my life. if yondu’s death still shakes me all these years later, this is going to be even worse. i’m sorry my baby boy, you deserved so much better. rest easy.
