I love when I see posts like "Share how many crochet WIPs you currently have! I have 5, it's so many!"
Like, girl, I have unfinished projects from over a decade ago that I refuse to frog on the off chance I decide to finish them. I've found years-old projects I forgot I even started and will impulsively just finish it on the spot. I've started three different projects in the last 2 months, including one I started yesterday, that I already know I may or may not finish within the year depending on motivation.
The number of WIPs I have is infinite.
#crochet#knitting#needlepoint#sewing#embroidery#shoutout to the time it took me 4 years to make my dad a hat. and like 6 years to make a turtle for a teacher.#i picked up yarn spinning for ONE day in like 2017. i have not done it since.#there's a half finished elephant amigurumi sitting in a basket and i started that guy in like 2011#i have two maybe three shawls i know of that are sitting unfinished in a storage bag#plenty of swatches of things that i start and lose interest in#currently i have a cardigan i wanted to make and started it and then got bored so i stopped#there's a hat i was knitting for my nanna that i started maybe 2 days before she passed#and that's sat unfinished i can't even look at it. i have no clue if i'll ever actually finish it.#there's at least one skirt i never finished sewing. and two skirts i have all the materials for but haven't started.#i know i have one beach cover up dress and one cover up skirt that i started in 2017 and didn't finish.#i think my oldest work in progress though dates back to when i was 9 or 10. i made a slipper. never finished the other foot.#that was in 2005 or 06. so literally i might have WIPs older than someone who is reading this.#and those are the just some of the ones i REMEMBER. buried in my yarn stash are probably others i've just forgotten.

Patchwork skirt made of whatever fabrics I found.

Fill for G1 - Black Cloaked Envoy on my Guardian Bingo Card!
The base pattern is taken from this daxiushan (性èąèĄ«) pattern. To make this daxiushan (Heipaoshi's Version), I shortened the sleeves a bit, added extra length to the body, added a hood, and added the weird gauzy bits on the back. I also added some cording on the shoulders and the sides of the hood, following the design from the show as closely as I could. You'll also notice a couple decorative bands of black ribbon on the chest and at the waist, as well as a square of skightly different black fabric on the back â these are also embellishments added to follow the model in the drama.
Fabric: raw silk noil, cotton lining in the hood, a silk habotai square, silk gauze, silk ribbons, cotton cording. Entirely handsewn using waxed black linen thread.
#guardian#heipaoshi#guardianbingofest#cosplay#(ish)#fanARTifact#handmade#modified hanfu#this was my first time making anything other than a basic circle/half circle skirt and it was very fun and im very happy with the result#there are places i could for sure improve for next time (and there will be a next time - this is one of the comfiest things I've ever worn)#but for my first time drafting a pattern and sewing anything more complex than a circle skirt#i say this is a job very well done#also the hood was so scary but it was actually pretty simple to make!! it's also GIANT#i could for sure hide a big black cat in there no problem#i am also planning on making the rest of heipaoshi's outfit (belt and little hand guards and all!)#we're posting just the cloak bit and calling that square filled bc i won't have the rest finished before the end of January đ
#but i keep getting intimidated by the closures on the yuanlingpao im making and then not sewing for months on end so.#jaysart

possibly a long-shot, but could anyone possibly point me in the direction of some resources on sewing that focus on either âmensâ clothing, or more gender neutral stuff? it feels like all the beginner patterns and books i can find have skirts and dresses as their main focus, which i certainly wonât wear, and none of the women in my life tend to wear that sort of stuff either, and it feels like a waste to make a bunch of skirts for practice just for them to get chucked in the back of a wardrobe. any recommendations for online resources (youtube, blogs, etc) or physical books would be very welcome. thanks!
#me#tailoring#sewists#machine sewing#clothes making#fashion#lgbt#sewing#also i know clothing isnt gendered its all just fabric bla bla#but im transmasc and more traditionally feminine clothing just isnt my thing#even when i thought i was a cis woman i never wore skirts#transmasc#trans#transmasc fashion#nonbinary#nonbinary fashion

If anyone, like me, sews or likes to think they can sew and also has a healthy appreciation for 18th century women's pockets, I've come across an adjustable skirt design with built in pockets inspired by 18th century pockets!
It's got two designs in one and look at this!!
Disclaimer of course that I haven't tried the pattern myself yet, but I'm excited to!
#my post#sewing#i fit so much shit in my 18th century pockets and i miss them sometimes#also this is on sale but it ends today#i might try and increase the length bc i like design b but also like a little longer of a skirt sometimes#the other version still adjusts but doesn't use lacing to do so

I made Miss Beatrice Bear a pair of bloomers out of a scrap of flannel and discovered there is no good way I can find to take a photo of bloomers on a bear plushie
#sewing#handmade#doll clothes#fancy fauna plushies#I think that was my tag for Beatrice and Petunia and the cat who is unnamed?#the tutorial for the bloomers mentioned you could wear them under a skirt#and it wouldnât add as much volume as petticoats but it would add some volume#so I tried it! in miniature!#Miss Beatrice wear American Girl doll sized clothes#and I did use an (off brand) AG style doll to make the pattern for them

I make up a skirt pattern. the waistband measures 30". my waist is 28". it can barely overlap. I replace the waistband with a 32" one and it fits comfortably
I make it up again. same grainline for cutting. same pieces. I weigh exactly the same as I did before. my waist is still 28". I make the waistband 32"
it has WAY too much overlap, to the point where the closure will have to be almost on my hip to fit properly. thus throwing off the pleat placement at the center back

My first ever victorian outfit is DONE! I made all these things!!
#adventures in sewing#arts n crafts#the skirt and jacket are both made from 1895 patterns#the shawl is from an 1860s pattern#everything else is improvised lmao#i also have a stripey button up shirt and another petticoat#i'll get someone to take good pictures in daylight this weekend#so people can finally see my outfit is blue and not black lmao#anyway all of my clothes have massive flaws#but for a first ever victorian set (where i used actual patterns!) and after just one year of sewing#and i did a lot of this by hand and often while sick too#so i'm happy (or at least trying to convince myself i'm happy)

hi! i hope you're doing well. is there a ref sheet you have anywhere showing how the rothsraine uniform works? specifically which section of the capelet the jacket sleeves & cloak connect to. it would help with fanart, and no promises but if cosplay is ever on the table it'd be a fun challenge.
Hey! So I don't currently have a finished up-to-date ref sheet/model sheet, the ones I do have don't show what you're wanting to see and are a bit old! So, since I've been meaning to replace them, I decided to let your ask push me to start on that lol.
I can go ahead and give you these sketches for the time being that show the basic outfit component breakdown for Maia's. The sectioned duster and winged cloak are attached to a shrug-style jacket base. Beneath that, a standard button up and bottoms combo that wouldn't seem too out of place in any academy. The button ups have the school's emblem (or student's attunement) embroidered on its sleeve in the same color as the shirt, creating a subtle visible effect when catching the light. A completed version with more detailed reference will come a bit later to include details for the trim, the enchantment sigils, back views and other details. The Rothsraine uniform has several accepted alternate options accessible via its enchantments, as well, but for here's Maia's!
#solivaga#soli asks#I also sew so my mind tinkering away at how to build this outfit irl has been an ever present thought when originally designing it#and continuing to draw it lol#by all technicalities maia's uniform would have a secondary vial clasp like Elias' does#but i haven't bothered drawing it past the first chapter#but skirt variances of the uniform can also have the waist chain for attaching their aethervial#though preference to wear it on the breast is shared by most students and is considered proper attire at the school

Me: Hey, I finished that dress I've been planning to make since last May.
My mother, silently grateful my first summer dress of the year is not covered in manic cartoon animals: Oh that looks lovely... Though don't you think you put a bit much fabric into your skirt? You could have used half and had enough left for a second dress.
Me: It's more comfortable this way. Not as clingy. And it's cut to be low waste, so you get a lot of bang for your buck.
Mom: ... How much is in there?
Me: Only like 4 meters.
Mom: Of a low waste pattern.
Me: Yup.
Mom: Give me one reason you need that much "bang for your buck".
Me:
#sewing#skirt is Salix by Unendlich Schön#lengthened by a full 30 cm#because yolo#bodice is from the Riviera dress by Lotte & Ludwig#straight neckline and no fake button placket#fabric is Aina from IKEA#and a lil square of jersey in the back#you're supposed to not wash the linen on normal#and don't put it in the dryer#whoops#it's now soft as a cloud#skirt go spinny#I might need to get more of this fabric#also 10/10 would recommend just straight up replacing a back panel with jersey instead of putting in a zipper#you do have to gather (part of) your skirt onto elastic but that's still more idiot proof to sew or wear than an elastic#and yes#there's pockets#smaller than intended#but still plenty big for my phone and wallet#i then showed my creation to a sewing friend who loves skirts that are knee length or higher#she said she would immediately wear that dress if it were half as long#GOOD NEWS#it's supposed to be#and you can even make it a patchwork pattern#we're not gonna talk about how long this took to hem#pictures taken outside because it was the first warm day of the year#and also because I can't spin it safely while indoors#i could remake it in manic cartoon but it would cost at least twice as much
