I love when I see posts like "Share how many crochet WIPs you currently have! I have 5, it's so many!"
Like, girl, I have unfinished projects from over a decade ago that I refuse to frog on the off chance I decide to finish them. I've found years-old projects I forgot I even started and will impulsively just finish it on the spot. I've started three different projects in the last 2 months, including one I started yesterday, that I already know I may or may not finish within the year depending on motivation.
The number of WIPs I have is infinite.

Fill for G1 - Black Cloaked Envoy on my Guardian Bingo Card!
The base pattern is taken from this daxiushan (大袖衫) pattern. To make this daxiushan (Heipaoshi's Version), I shortened the sleeves a bit, added extra length to the body, added a hood, and added the weird gauzy bits on the back. I also added some cording on the shoulders and the sides of the hood, following the design from the show as closely as I could. You'll also notice a couple decorative bands of black ribbon on the chest and at the waist, as well as a square of skightly different black fabric on the back — these are also embellishments added to follow the model in the drama.
Fabric: raw silk noil, cotton lining in the hood, a silk habotai square, silk gauze, silk ribbons, cotton cording. Entirely handsewn using waxed black linen thread.

possibly a long-shot, but could anyone possibly point me in the direction of some resources on sewing that focus on either “mens” clothing, or more gender neutral stuff? it feels like all the beginner patterns and books i can find have skirts and dresses as their main focus, which i certainly won’t wear, and none of the women in my life tend to wear that sort of stuff either, and it feels like a waste to make a bunch of skirts for practice just for them to get chucked in the back of a wardrobe. any recommendations for online resources (youtube, blogs, etc) or physical books would be very welcome. thanks!

If anyone, like me, sews or likes to think they can sew and also has a healthy appreciation for 18th century women's pockets, I've come across an adjustable skirt design with built in pockets inspired by 18th century pockets!
It's got two designs in one and look at this!!

Disclaimer of course that I haven't tried the pattern myself yet, but I'm excited to!

I make up a skirt pattern. the waistband measures 30". my waist is 28". it can barely overlap. I replace the waistband with a 32" one and it fits comfortably
I make it up again. same grainline for cutting. same pieces. I weigh exactly the same as I did before. my waist is still 28". I make the waistband 32"
it has WAY too much overlap, to the point where the closure will have to be almost on my hip to fit properly. thus throwing off the pleat placement at the center back

hi! i hope you're doing well. is there a ref sheet you have anywhere showing how the rothsraine uniform works? specifically which section of the capelet the jacket sleeves & cloak connect to. it would help with fanart, and no promises but if cosplay is ever on the table it'd be a fun challenge.
Hey! So I don't currently have a finished up-to-date ref sheet/model sheet, the ones I do have don't show what you're wanting to see and are a bit old! So, since I've been meaning to replace them, I decided to let your ask push me to start on that lol.

I can go ahead and give you these sketches for the time being that show the basic outfit component breakdown for Maia's. The sectioned duster and winged cloak are attached to a shrug-style jacket base. Beneath that, a standard button up and bottoms combo that wouldn't seem too out of place in any academy. The button ups have the school's emblem (or student's attunement) embroidered on its sleeve in the same color as the shirt, creating a subtle visible effect when catching the light. A completed version with more detailed reference will come a bit later to include details for the trim, the enchantment sigils, back views and other details. The Rothsraine uniform has several accepted alternate options accessible via its enchantments, as well, but for here's Maia's!

Me: Hey, I finished that dress I've been planning to make since last May.
My mother, silently grateful my first summer dress of the year is not covered in manic cartoon animals: Oh that looks lovely... Though don't you think you put a bit much fabric into your skirt? You could have used half and had enough left for a second dress.
Tumblr media
Me: It's more comfortable this way. Not as clingy. And it's cut to be low waste, so you get a lot of bang for your buck.
Mom: ... How much is in there?
Me: Only like 4 meters.
Mom: Of a low waste pattern.
Me: Yup.
Mom: Give me one reason you need that much "bang for your buck".
Me:
