A Kuzlina interpretation of "My Funny Friend And Me" (Kuzlina song of the day)

I know this song was made for Pacha and Kuzco's characters in The Kingdom Of The Sun, when Kuzlina didn't even exist yet, but listening to the lyrics I think it fits so well for them too. 

"And we wondered just what happened 

To the life we knew

before the world changed

And not a thing I held was true" 

I'm imagining this applying to Kuzco being forced off the throne into attending Kuzco Academy. He lost everything he had. His power, his money, and any respect he had as the Sapa Inca. It can also apply to Malina meeting Kuzco, as although she seemed fine in life, without meeting him she would never discover certain things about herself. 

"But you were kind to me

And you reminded me

That the world is not my playground 

There are other things that matter"

Malina often helps Kuzco see the value in other people and having morals, much like Pacha. 

"But you stayed in my corner

The only world I know was upside down"

Malina stayed a supportive friend all throughout Kuzco's time at Kuzco academy, even when he was being difficult. 

"We could be lost we could refuse to try

But we made it through in the dark night"

Again there were times when Malina and Kuzco argued and disliked eachother but ultimately they graduated on good terms and supportive of eachother. 

"I'm not as clever as I thought I was

I'm not the boy I used to be because

You showed me something different, you showed me something pure

I always seemed so certain but I was really never sure"

I'm interprating this line as Kuzco being in love with Malina. He already went through an arc of character development with Pacha, but he had never been in love before or see the value in that, and I think that really changed him on a fundamental level.

Others would have walked out on a lousy game" 

I always think of the very first episode where Kuzbunny is all sad and alone and Malina calls out to him.<3

I see Kuzlina as a very strong and everlasting relationship.

If Kuzco got to do Kuzco Academy again, I don't think he would have given Malina such a hard time or been so whiny. I do think in his universe he would see Malina, and their relationship, as a gift from the gods.  <33

Later that night, Sam finds himself pacing in the kitchen, trying to summon the courage to follow Dean’s advice. The idea of asking you out feels like standing at the edge of a cliff, heart pounding and unsure if the leap will end in flight or a crash.

“You’re overthinking it,” Dean says from the doorway, arms crossed as he leans casually against the frame. “Just do it already.”

Sam glares at him. “Could you not?”

Dean smirks but holds up his hands in surrender. “Fine. But if you wait too long, you’ll miss your shot.”

Sam groans, running a hand through his hair. He grabs a bottle of water from the fridge and takes a deep breath. Before he can talk himself out of it, he heads to the library, where he finds you exactly where you were earlier—feet up on the couch, headphones back on, and nose buried in the journal.

This time, though, he doesn’t linger at the edge of the room. He clears his throat, and when you glance up, he flashes you a small, nervous smile.

“Hey,” he says. “Got a minute?”

You pull your headphones down, giving him your full attention. “What’s up, Sammy?”

He shifts awkwardly, his fingers gripping the water bottle like it’s a lifeline. “I was, uh, wondering if you wanted to… hang out tonight. Just the two of us.”

Your brow quirks, a teasing smile tugging at your lips. “Hang out? Like a date?”

The question catches him off guard, but he nods, swallowing hard. “Yeah. Like a date.”

Your smile softens, and you close the journal, setting it aside. “I’d like that.”

Relief floods him, and he offers a lopsided grin. “Great. How about we make dinner? Together?”

“Sounds perfect,” you say, standing and stretching. “But just so you know, I’m rubbish in the kitchen.”

He chuckles, the tension in his shoulders easing. “That’s okay. I’ll take the lead.”

A short while later, the two of you are in the kitchen, chopping vegetables and debating the proper way to season a sauce. Sam works with practiced ease, and you do your best to follow his instructions, though you can’t resist sneaking tastes or cracking jokes to keep things light.

“You’re surprisingly good at this,” you say, watching him stir a pot with effortless grace.

He glances at you, his cheeks faintly pink. “I had to learn. Dean and I didn’t exactly grow up eating gourmet meals.”

“Still,” you say, leaning against the counter, “you make it look easy.”

Sam shrugs, a shy smile playing on his lips. “It’s nice to share it with someone.”

Your eyes meet, and for a moment, the air between you feels heavier.

After dinner is ready, you settle in the living room, plates balanced on your laps as a movie plays softly in the background. You’ve both kicked off your boots, and somewhere along the way, you ended up leaning against him, your head resting on his shoulder.

“This is nice,” you murmur, your voice barely above a whisper.

“Yeah,” Sam agrees, his hand resting lightly on your knee. “It is.”

When the movie ends, neither of you moves. The warmth of his presence, the way his fingers trace absent patterns over your leg—it’s all too comforting to break.

“Sam?” you say after a while.

“Yeah?”

You tilt your head to look at him, your lips curving into a soft smile. “Thanks for tonight. I needed this.”

He smiles back, his hazel eyes warm and tender. “Me too.”

Before you can overthink it, you lean up and press a gentle kiss to his cheek. His breath catches, and when you pull back, he’s staring at you like he can’t quite believe you’re real.

“I really like you,” he says suddenly, the words tumbling out in a rush.

Your grin widens, and you tug him closer, your foreheads touching. “Good,” you whisper. “Because I really like you too.”

He kisses you then, slow and sweet, and it feels like the world has finally clicked into place.

That night, as you both clean up the kitchen and settle back on the couch for another movie, it’s clear that this is just the beginning of something good—something real.

I rolled my eyes at the groom saying he will never sleep with his wife because she's a merchant.

Not rolling my eyes because of disdain but because of that relatively new cdrama need to keep heroine pristine for her eventual man even tho it makes no sense. Think of Dream of Splendor where they insisted she was a virgin despite being a performer. And now here - I could see a man disdaining his low born wife but to leave her untouched? Really?

If it was a one-off, it would be one thing but this is very much part of a pattern.

Long gone are the days when Shu Qi's FL had to whore herself for her gross assassin master and still ended up happily with Wallace Huo's idealistic scholar in Red Dust or Dilraba’s FL slept with and had another man’s child despite being eventually part of an OTP with Zhang Bin Bin in The King’s Woman or Imperial Doctress where Liu Shi Shi was married to and raped by her husband and eventually ended up with true love emperor Wallace Huo or Zhang Xinyi's Princess having to sleep with her gross husband despite being in mutual forbidden love with his brother played by Yuan Hong, and ending up happily with him eventually (or, to use a more recent example, Tang Yan having to sleep with her husband but eventually ending up with her first and true love Shawn Dou's character in The Princess Weiyoung.)

FAVORITE THING ABOUT THEM

Probably how open Smitten is with his emotions!!! He feels so so much with his whole heart and I really love how he’s not afraid to share them! He is a really honest and earnest character and I don’t really see him lying in any way (and if he does, he’d probably do a really terrible job at it because of how he wears his heart on his sleeve andnsjsm). I can’t help but feel that his earnestness is something worth admiring!

Oh! And of course of how gentle he can be! Despite his bravado he really knows how to lift someone up with his soft words. He can see how someone is hurting and would attempt to lift them up by reminding them that they are loved and is worth loving. I especially love him in Thorn because of this reason. He’s really just love personified (even if it’s towards his own deterrent (don’t do that Smitten))

Also also! I love the way he speaks! He’s so dramatic with his speech patterns that it gives me the giddiest feeling whenever I hear him speak. His princely flair got me alright… he’s so cute,,,.,,…

AND!!! How he subverts the expectations of how love is a purely good thing!!! Love can hurt really really bad as well as heal!! Both the giver and the receiver!!!! And how he is a representation of using fantasy as a coping mechanism!!! He has a lot!!! Of stuff!!!!

Smitten and Skeptic! As well as Smitten and Stubborn!!

The Heart and The Head!! The Grey Brothers have a special place in my heart… They’re like the two people who’s really different from each other but enjoys each other’s company regardless of that difference. They balance each other out rather nicely despite them never meeting each other officially in game: like, Skeptic could teach Smitten to think before he act on his own emotions and be more sceptical of the intentions of other people, while Smitten could encourage Skeptic to feel with his heart! I see Skeptic as the type of person to have a hard time empathising with other people and would rely heavily on his logic to help solve the problem for them instead of simply listening to them (he cares, just doesn’t know how to do it in a way that’s unfamiliar to him/not his nature), so I think having Smitten be there to teach him how to do that would help him greatly. They would probably understand each other in the ending where TLQ kills Shifty’s heart and becomes a god himself, since Skeptic knows what’s it like to not have a grounding presence to catch him (for Smitten it’s the Princess). Him and Cheated would comfort Smitten during those times.

And here’s Beauty and Brawn! Aside from their shared appreciation for the Princess, they are also both really passionate characters who are extremely open with their emotions. Smitten would appreciate Stubborn’s showcase of passion towards the Princess, while Stubborn would see strength and potential in Smitten as an opponent! Stubborn would probably rather head straight ahead towards violence instead of using words like Smitten does, but he likes the guy so what the hell

Stubborn would try to get Smitten to fight him, but Smitten just, doesn’t fight him simply because being violent is really not in his nature (unless Stubborn intentionally gloats him into fighting him)

They would be the duo that hugs and cries together whenever there’s a touching scene playing in a movie

Funnily enough the infamous Burned Grey lines aren’t the reason why I ship them in the first place

It’s the fact that I remembered a line Cold had said about Smitten would one day want the emotions to go away completely despite how strongly those emotions burn at the current moment , and then telling him to trust him on it.

It just. Reveals so much about Cold as a character.

Not only does it imply that Cold isn’t completely emotionless as he oh so often tells us that he is, and that he had felt strong emotions at one point but had chosen to repress them completely due to how much it had hurt him, but it also reveals that he doesn’t seem to hold the same animosity towards Smitten as the other way around (at least, not the level of hatred Smitten holds for him),as he actually gave him advice on the subject matter. He seems to be more amused by Smitten then anything. Burned Grey is a route where Smitten was denied of his purpose with us deciding to kill the Princess, and Cold’s whole thing is about his purpose being denied, and hence the numbing ache in his heart that he desperately wants to fill. So I feel like he would probably understand Smitten in that regard of having his purpose denied. He just, find Smitten’s anger really freaking amusing due to the fact that Smitten is usually really chipper. And also the fact that Anger is the rawest emotion there is.

They would definitely start on rough terms though. With Smitten actually fulfilling his promise on letting Cold feel what he had felt (via hurting Cold) and Cold just becoming more and more interested in how far Smitten would go in his pursuit of vengeance. How far would he go? How low would he stoop? He would love to know, and so he would gloat him more and more and see how he would react.

But knowing Smitten, he would probably get really tired of hurting Cold over and over again. He is. Just not a violent person at heart. His starring chapter two is literally one of the three routes that doesn’t have a chapter one that ends with violence(it technically does but you know what I mean(Damsel, Prisoner, Stranger)). Eventually it would reach a point where he would just tiredly tell Cold off without it ending with violence, and that would make Cold feel surprised about the change in his usual pattern of behaviour. I’d like to think that Cold would be the person to reach Smitten out to soothe him on his hollowness and aimlessness when Smitten would deny him over and over until he eventually lets Cold do his thing (heavily influenced by @pink-november ‘s fic btw) and Smitten coming to a realisation that Cold might not be as emotionless as he thought… and then the two deciding to start over on their relationship and become friends… and then learning that wait, they’re actually quite similar… and then they unknowingly fall for each other for real the more time they spend with each other…. oughhhhh slowburn Burned Bridges my beloved

Also also, fire and ice, pink and black, pillow and blanket, “hero” and “villain” (but not really), emotional doofus and stoic fella????? ENEMIES TO FRIENDS TO LOVERS SLOWBURN?????? That’s a lot of stuff!!!! (And the comedic whiplash of “GRRRR I HATE YOU!!!!” to them cuddling together is just. Really funny to me ok.)

Again, this ship can either go down an even more toxic route then it already is (yummy toxic yaoi) or it could become something really fluffy and tender. It really depends on what direction the writer wants the ship to go. I’m fine with either though. Both are really fun routes.

RANDOM HEADCANON

I’ve already said this in another post, but I’d like to imagine Smitten would abuse nicknames and name the voices with the positive qualities he sees in them. Also this is a headcanon for the Voices in general, but I’d like to think that he’d struggle acting away from his nature. Much like the Vessels, the Voice’s nature is all they knew. A part of him would always yearn for the presence of the Princess, since she was literally who he was made to love and dote upon. Even though he would feel genuinely happy that TLQ had found his one true love, a part of him would always feel that emptiness She had left behind, and his heart would ache more and more. Broken in Apotheosis had proven that the Voices can in fact grow their perspective and in turn become more complex, so I feel like Smitten would definitely have his own arc as well once the Voices learn to become their own person and not just a singular facet of TLQ (and especially Oppy and Cold but this ain’t about them).

Smitten would be really affectionate with his show of affection (depends on Voice to Voice though!!!! He wouldn’t want to make them feel uncomfortable). If you ask him which showcase of affection his likes most, he would tell you that he loves all shows of affection equally! Love is love and should be showed proud and loud across your heart! He’s the type of guy to casually give platonic smooches on the cheeks (again, depends on Voice to Voice—if the Voice is uncomfortable with smooches, he’d probably just do a handshake or something). He doesn’t really put a line in love. To him, love is just that—love. There is no need to put a line between platonic, familial and romantic love. As long as the parties are comfortable with how that love is expressed, there is no problem!

Also can we all agree he would write the corniest love songs ever?? Thanks (Cold would be amused by him and listens to Smitten perform despite his comment on the corniness of it all ahahahahah anyway)

UNPOPULAR OPINION

I can agree on Smitten not being a d!ck but saying Smitten is completely harmless and lacks any malicious intent is where I have to disagree. I dunno if this is an unpopular opinion though.

Him wanting to hurt someone in the name of love IS malicious intent despite the motivation. And he has proven that can AND will do what he had said that he would do with him literally killing us after we killed Damsel for seemingly no reason. He is love as much as he is emotional.

Also he seems to care more about how you AND the Princess feels more then his own opinions. He reads as a people pleaser to me. He genuinely just wants you and the Princess to be happy, but then that mixing with his own perception that he is supposed to be the knight in shining armour for the Princess makes for a weird complex.

Would I accuse any individual fan in my fandom of bi erasure? No, that way lies madness. And besides, everyone has perfectly valid reasons for their headcanons.

And yet, there are some things I can't help but find suspicious…

Like the many fans who look at a male character who's clearly attracted to women and also has a male love interest, and declare this character to be exclusively gay. Almost as if they think his attraction to women would somehow threaten the sanctity of their M/M OTP.

Or perhaps the fact that it's only ever the gay characters (none of whom explicitly identify as gay in canon) whose sexuality must never, ever, ever be erased by shipping them with someone of a different gender, while meanwhile it's always A-OK to declare the canon bi characters to be gay.

It’s my Sunshot Campaign fic’s anniversary, Before the Sun Sets, so I’m suffering with feelings trapped on the battlefield that I need to ramble about. This beautiful Chengzhan Sunshot Campaign piece I commissioned from @rounove is too big for this site, but please look at a cropped version.

I always enjoy taking the opportunity to gush about all the details in artworks. Like, obviously I’m forever in love with my otp’s expressions here. Jiang Cheng’s cheek was cut in battle, narrow escape situation for our beloathed companions, and after they found the illusion of shelter, they can take care of any injuries. Lan Wangji is focused on this, completely, diligently, and wipes the blood away so carefully, leaning close. Jiang Cheng, sitting on this tree, sore and in pain, stares up at this unscathed, seemingly radiating face and appears to feel a different kind of ache. His expression murders me every time, he’s fighting a battle he’ll lose here, reaching up to cup Lan Wangji’s face with his bloodstained hand. AH! And what does Lan Wangji see and feel, with his eyes trapped on Jiang Cheng’s mouth, with his lips already parting, when he should take care of the wound? AH!

Jiang Cheng’s hand with Zidian on it already found a resting place on Lan Wangji’s thigh, a trail of blood left where it ran up from his knee. Steadying Lan Wangji as he leant in to look at the injury? Pulling, perhaps? All the white, so pristine robes draping over Jiang Cheng’s purple robes makes me feel all the things. Lan Wangji is a protective cloud brighter than anything in this moment. AH!

Their swords resting next to them, a mirror of their positions. Sometimes I just love to stare at the swords, all the details, the small, delicate patterns on the sheaths, the ruffled, soft looking tassels. Bichen would slip to the forest ground if Sandu weren’t steadily holding it up. And Sandu is safely shielded by Bichen. AH!

And the background! The rainy darkness that followed them to this spot to haunt or shield them, down a river that looks like spilled ink rippling the reflection of the trees. And this ancient, magnificent tree that keeps them dry from the rain with those thick leaves. AH!

I just love falling into this picture and thinking of how they ended up here. The pain, the suffering, the brushes of skin and fleeting touches that lead to them literally falling into each other’s warmth here. Now kiss!

Some folks on X-Men Reddit are calling Julian guilty of sexual assault because he was introduced trying to unbutton Jean's shirt with his TK

And like I get where they are coming from because what he was doing was not cool and would be taken far more seriously if it was written today in a post MeToo culture

But I also feel like it's an extremely uncharitable view of the situation? He tried it once, was unsuccessful, and most importantly he never tried it again. He never did anything even remotely similar to another girl.

I don't want to say it was just "boys being boys" because that's always been bullshit. But I do think it's important to put it into context. He was very young when that happened and he went through a great deal of character development afterwards, and again, it was not a pattern with him.

(BTW who wants to bet that those same folks don't have a problem with Gambit or Daken or Longshot or Starfox or Spider-Woman using sex charm/pheromone powers to lower inhibitions and trick people into having sex with them)

That same redditor also said he was homophobic because of the aborted storyline where Anole would have killed himself. And it's like, okay cool so we're just straight up blaming Julian for stories that never even got published.

Gambit LITERALLY had a sex tape in one comic and roped a bunch of teenagers to recover it (and it’s hinted it happened WHEN he was in a relationship WITH Rogue.) Gambit projected a nude image of Blob in his head to keep telepaths out (which kind of blurs the line into sexual harassment AND is frankly kind of mean to Fred- I’m sure Blob wouldn’t appreciate it if he knew!). And I have talked AD NASEUM about the “Foxx” storyline.

Yet- Gambit is STILL one of my favorite characters. 😐

Nightcrawler was represented as “homophobic” in the Ultimate verse… should we say that applies for 616 verse Kurt too?

It just becomes frankly RIDICULOUS to sight old problematic shit X-characters have done (because they have ALL done something!) or aborted story arcs that never happened or AU.

But fans will inevitably always do it. 🙄

It’s truthfully kind of like the “age-gap discourse” with Magneto and Rogue with Romy fans- A) their fictional characters, not REAL people… AND B) that’s very rarely the real reason people ACTUALLY hate Magneto and Rogue.

There are moments where I get sad OP because fans really JUST want to enjoy this moment without people screaming or people acting ridiculous… and then I remember Romy fans and how ugly that can get lol! (Nothing will EVER be as toxic as the “Rogue-Gambit-Magneto” ship fights… not even “Wolverine-Scott-Emma-Jean” are as vicious lol!)

All the big “X-ships” have people who violently hate it and will give sorta BS reasons why to justify hating it… and that’s usually just a sign that ship has made it to the big leagues lol

I would actually be MORE worried if people DIDN’T talk about it- because that usually means there is zero interest in it or Laura fans didn’t see it as potentially becoming canon and lasting lol!

how do you feel about wraith x opportunist?

okay I've been ignoring the shit outta my inbox for like a decade or something (not actually that long, obviously, but still pretty dang long) so I better reply for once.

and let me just say! fucking hilarious.

now we all know that smitten and opportunist is my otp and it's been like that for quite some time but I need to give this one a special mention. just watched a wraith route playthrough today and I gotta say:

1. I love my wife number two. Paranoid. Wife. I love you.

2. OPPORTUNIST SHE'S NOT GONNA BE A GOOD EMPLOYER.

okay but on a serious note? when we see them interact for a few moments it's kinda just funny and lighthearted. seeing oppy being oppy and wraith just enjoying the show because it makes everyone else suffer. but in the long term, it's not gonna be pretty great.

just a bootlicker and someone who doesn't even care if her boots are getting licked, so long as she can chuck those boots at someone.

opportunist's priorities don't actually align with wraith's. actually, they don't align with anyone but his own's. his craving for power and control here comes in the form of trying to please her; from feeble attempts to persuade her into sparing him. I guess in that aspect, it's a little reminiscent of the broken.

but what prevents it from becoming too much like tower and broken's dynamic is simply the fact that opportunist isn't actually resigned to his fate. he just acts like he is so he can have a chance to turn the tables against her later on. and the wraith, like tower, still ignores him. she only keeps him around if it benefits her to some extent.

it might traumatize opportunist, or it might not. he's gonna pull out as soon as the implied drawbacks outweigh the implied benefits. but the thing is, the biggest implied benefit from working with the wraith in general is not being subjected to suffering at her hands, so it might take some time before he gives it up.

and I don't think oppy would have it in him to address the root cause of her sadism. she's lonely. perhaps after some time, he would genuinely do something about that loneliness. perhaps she could recover.

but for the most part I can still see oppy leaving once it gets old and he finds a better position. because the wraith would probably tire of him eventually. and then it's not gonna end well.

I don't know if a real emotional connection could actually form there, but I'm kinda digging the idea of this dynamic in general. oppy being the same scheming snake as ever, and wraith just giving a grand total of zero shits.

huh. most ships involving oppy happen to involve a relationship built on falsehood and scheming. I'm starting to see a pattern here.

tldr: I do kinda like it, in all honesty. it's like towerbroken, but oppy has a lot more agency and is a lot less resigned than broken. plus, wraith would get bored.

unless...? that's for the other fanfic writers who like this pairing to do something about, because personally I don't give enough of a crap.

rewatching 1899 because I sold my soul to Bo and Jantje and im on ep.3 around 56:38

Daniel points out the fog and how it’s “almost like someone sent it here to stop that madman” (paraphrasing) and the way Maura defends him 😭. I can’t help but feel bag for Daniel. I love him but Eyk and Maura are my beloveds they’re my otp I cannot help it.

Anyways I think it’s really interesting how the conversation plays out ESPECIALLY after the scene with Ángel and Ramiro; again paraphrasing because I don’t have much time to find the exact quotes, but Ángel says something along the lines of “you can’t change the nature of things, I will always be who I am and you will always be who you are” and thinking abt the true husband/key eyk theory makes me want to implode. Maura is constantly choosing Eyk, she does in the beginning by opening up to him the way she does, (I’m sure there are faults in my statements but like I said they’re my otp and I’m just excited to ramble about them) and even though their letters all say trust no one they have this weird invisible pull to each other. Also before I joined tumblr, everytime I rewatched it I would always focus on Sebastian. I think it’s really interesting (I could be looking to much into this of course) that some of the time when Eyk and Maura are interrupted it’s because of Sebastian— and he always kinda has this look or behavior around them. It just makes me think if hypothetically he had seen this happen over and over again, he definitely sees patterns. Again with what Henry says, I don’t need to state the line because we all know it— takes me back to this same statement of “you can’t change the nature of things” god I love the dialogue in this show.

I just think personally, there are a lot of things I know I choose to exaggerate knowing Jantje and Bo write very with the flow of the show— (flashbacks to andreas saying he stopped trying to understand Jantje a long time ago gives me a giggle) but the way Eyk and Maura behave around each other is no coincidence I won’t except any other answers. They love each other.

How I feel about this character

Fundamentally broken genius of a teleological Darwinist. High-functioning psycho-sociopath. Evil mad scientist trope is my guilty favorite. The only thing they could've done any better was give this man reading glasses.

Some people call him a leather/latex daddy. He does dress like one. I don't think he acts like a fatherly figure, but, then, I've never really understood that connotation - I have no reference.

I want to jiggle his face and boop his nose and tuck him in and listen to him talk about genetics and virology for 17 hours straight without a break. I want to run my hand through his hair like I'm rolling to pet the dragon in D&D without getting incinerated. I want to give him his PG67.

I also want his back-to-back letterbox reviews of every virology movie like or similar to Contagion, including Contagion.

I find him "conventionally attractive". My favorite facemodel is RE5. His nose is so cute and his eyebrows are so thick and gosh, he's got such pretty long eyelashes. He's so cute when his hair peeks forward.

And he is so very, very tired.

My non-romantic OTP for this character

Rebecca and Wesker being friends in DBD is cute. I want them to get in a funfact battle toe-to-toe. They should watch shitty movies together because there's nothing better to do.

Heisenberg, Wesker and pre-tf Radames is the ultimate in-universe nightmare blunt rotation and I'd pay to see it.

My unpopular opinion about this character

Albert Wesker is a child trafficking victim...

...of a cryptofascist biotech doom-cult who would've probably been normal if Spencer hadn't targeted him. To erase his past is to forget his most important character trope: he is manufactured. Everything about his life has been intentionally sown into him to create a perfect weapon that relies on the orders of another to act without question.

Spencer forgot that human beings are unpredictable creatures. There is no way to strip a human of humanity with no trace left behind - humanity is curious of what lies beyond the walls. We are not stateful machines.

I haven't really seen anyone else headcanon him as someone with C-PTSD and I think part of this is media pattern avoidance of assigning these traits to the villains - it's "bad rep". The truth is that C-PTSD is a horrifying condition to experience and the way you come out of it can very much result in sociopathy - in fact, I'd wager it's a large contributor (I suffer from C-PTSD, so this isn't something I'm throwing around for edge).

I portray him as someone who desperately struggles to detach himself from the concept of humanity because the concept of humanity has made such a monster out of him that he doesn't believe it holds any value. There's thorns around his heart to protect it and they have bled him out.

Wesker also has to detach himself from others because he's been raised to follow the directive of people with more influence (in any fashion) than him and, thus, the only safe option is to stand alone. To give anyone that power over him will put the strings back in the marionette. I think he would rather die. I don't reflect this in most of my xreader writing for obvious reasons.

Wesker cannot be "pacified".

There is no shivering little boy waiting for you to save him locked behind his eyes after he kills Spencer. You will learn to love scar tissue and recognize aching need portrayed in shades of violence or you will love nothing at all.

He's not an empathetic man. In whatever you do you must remember that this character lacks the ability to relate to others as an immutable trait. It doesn't forbid you from writing Wesker being kind or doing 'kind' things, rather he does not do them out of the same kindness you connotate with human empathy.

In fact, I need to update my sheets to reflect this.

I'd eat my boot if he wasn't a social Darwinist.

I don't really focus on Epic Umbrella Moments very much for obvious reasons (aside from not enjoying writing them).

On the flipside, Wesker has every reason to establish the School again when he cements himself in TRICELL, especially considering his lofty goals of pushing humanity off the edge in favor of something new (to breed these extremist views), but he doesn't. That's very telling, I think, and it's in direct contrast to his own ideology, and that's very very telling.

At the end of the day, he's just a character.

I just like Wesker. I'll read and love all versions of him. No one version of Wesker is """bad""" - all portrayals are another portrayal to choose from, all characterizations explore something new.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

god i would pay for someone to write his response to the c virus. hey man, some guy took your virus and used it for his crazy tf mindbreak bodyhorror fetish-obsession with your most contentious agent, do you want to kill him? please please say yes

I would also pay for his response to T-Abyss. I mean, a bunch of 'civvies' got ahold of T. Is he disgusted? Is he curious? Does he want to hire them? Does he hate it? Did he use it in Uroboros? Does he think about it? Does it bother him???

Does the A Virus bother him???

I want pre-tf Radames and Wesker to interact. I want to see what they'd talk about. Radames was herself obsessed with Simmons - would Wesker immediately clock this behavior pattern?

Mother Miranda and Wesker interacting would be fascinating. Would it lead to an earlier, different Zenobia? Even Spencer and Miranda meeting and talking (again) would be very interesting.

Come to think of it, pretty much every other BBEG of Resident Evil involves a child - Ashford herself (and later Hidalgo), Eveline, Natalia Korda, even Sherry. Wesker has no equivalent of T-Veronica, E, T-Phobos, or G - he never involves children directly. Why? I wish his psyche was explored because the things he doesn't do even when they would benefit him are immensely interesting aspects of him.

hey there traveler! 🌠 I said that? Oops, might have thought that one out-loud. Silly me. 😶 Well, we’re here now so we might as well drive this one home. 'Some things are deeper than skin' was a shallow take on the situation for the trio, imo. It felt like a sticker placed on top of a damaged car. Some things are definitely deeper than skin. So are Rogue's feelings for Erik. So is what her time with him inspired in her. For someone who was a terrorist, who presented drastic solutions to the world, not once did he try to push that onto Rogue. On the contrary, it was made clear that, in the time they spent together in TAS, he taught her to see her powers not as a curse but as an essential part of who she is. He spoke to her about what it really means to embrace her identity, about building a future that makes her feel proud of who she is, about her powers creating a sense of belonging instead of discomfort, shame, and alienation. His presence in her life taught her not to fear who she is, not to put limits on what she can do, it taught her to be a part of the world she wants to see herself living in. THAT is why she fell in love with him. That is the Erik that Rogue loves. The whole 'touch' only came in later. We already see her falling in love with him before they even considered the possibility of touching. I love Gambit with all my heart, but in that scene he didn't consider a single thing of what Rogue had to say about why she wanted to be part of Genosha's future. He literally went ahead and did the opposite of what Erik had done - he made Rogue revert into herself and feel the pain of her inability to touch for the sole purpose of romantic and sexual gain. That line was ultimately used to show that Remy was in the right, to frame him as the one that's been hurt, with close to no consideration for Rogue and what she wanted from life. He says 'some things are deeper than skin' and it feels off coming from him, someone who has the privilege of sharing a connection based on touch with others. It makes Remy come across as not listening to what's being said. And I know his words in that interaction can be read as romantic in the sense of 'we can overcome anything'. It's a valid interpretation, but it doesn't work for me. I'd rather two partners try and understand each other and listen to each other than dismiss it with a 'we'll find a way'. Especially when one of them is deeply affected by it. It just isn't my jam. So having Rogue echo the 'some things are deeper than skin' fell flat because it only addressed part of the reason why her and Erik shared something. I think there is love in Rogue for both men and, unlike Magneto, Gambit is just not willing to accept it. It has to be him and only him. All this when he's had a lifetime prior to Rogue of experiencing intimacy, touch and relationships and understanding what he wants and what he values. In this instance it just feels like he's indirectly manipulating Rogue's emotions, making her sink into guilt and self-doubt (very important to note here that he's not doing it on purpose, but as an instinctive reaction to his own emotions - because this speaks both of his qualities and his flaws). So when Rogue says ‘Remy was right, some things are deeper than skin’ I think that is her guilt and insecurity talking.

I grew up with ROMY as my OTP but then, in time, that flame died and my view of the ship shifted. Part of the reason is because I started seeing a pattern in their relationship where often times Rogue would end up being the one pulled down, having to accommodate, accept and even apologize for things. And I was just not vibing with it anymore.
