See I don't really believe there are any broader like. Schema of gender in Homestuck in that makes sense. Including Callie's OG gendering of classes but most others don't have a solid "reason" to them. Breath players tend to lean towards transfeminine to me but that doesn't feel like it's because of Breath and so on and so forth.

Basically the only two principles of gender determination in Homestuck I actually abide by are:

Trans characters can be partially determined in certain cases by examine their relationships to other close characters, forming something like a binary (or more) system. Transmasculine Dirk v. Transfeminine Roxy, Femme Transfeminine Gay Jake English v. Butch Transmasc Lesbian Jane Crocker, my Davepeta+ Gender Chart etc. Characters in Homestuck often model themselves in relation to their friends as we do irl.

Space is nigh-exclusively a transfeminine aspect in Homestuck itself. The job of a Space player is to seize and create their own means of creation and species-level reproduction, usually after being deprived of traditional means of womanhood, motherhood, and reproduction.

For all we know, maybe she did get that comfort she needed after discovering Midnight's body. But there's 2 things I'm thinking about, 1) The way she's been known to dismiss her tears as nothing (probably back in the final exam arc is the best example) and the way she curls into herself here, hides her face from everyone, and 2) How we see this panel and the next time we see her, she's comforting Mina. Concentrating on someone else's sorrow, which to me seems like an effort to be strong for herself and therefore for others around her

Gunman Joe is most likely a hologram and is probably controlled by one of the inventors to stilt the other's progress (and probably not whoever Eggmuffin is, as it appears on top of their building and would probably dissuade Layton and Luke's efforts to connect to Eggmuffin). The voice is probably a voice changer of sorts. I don't think this is the main antagonist though.

Ok... I think what was originally making me feel gloomy about the models is solved after seeing the puzzle solved (heh) animation, and I feel a bit more hopeful. The models we see here only have one form of shading as opposed to the NWOS switch teaser or the puzzle solved animation. This game IS early in development so now that makes sense. I mean it looks bad but I think it'll improve. And if not I'll do it myself. Plus the shading in the switch teaser is purple-hued and the shading in-game that we see here is black, which is USUALLY a sign it's still being tweaked around in the background.

The fact that they're STILL aiming for 2025 makes me worried though... The game definitely needs polishing. Realistically delaying it would've been expected at its current stage, but persisting in a 2025 release gives it about a year and a third. Of course Level 5 is known for delaying things all the time so they could just be like "gomen minasama 2026" but... I feel like if they are persisting in a 2025 release... mm... After all of that, the trailer was nice but a bit worrisome. It's obvious now that they're still in development and it's not the final look though! One thing that comes to mind is the crusty Desmond model we saw wayyyy early on in AL's development;

Like. There's still time. I would be especially surprised if the don't at least add a bit of texturing to some of the models (like the texture-baked shaking in luke's hat or desmond's hair). I'm less pessimistic about the 3d model style now especially with its siblings looking as peak as it is (inazuma eleven, decapolice, etc)

That being said, I can't say much about what I'm hoping for until we see the TGS (did you guys forget about TGS /silly), though if it IS coming out in 2025... I hope to god it's like. December or something. I really don't want this to be rushed and with how it looks right now I wouldn't exactly be happy with it. In fact if there is 2d cutscenes I can totally see them saving it up for TGS too just to have something new and exciting rather than the same information we've already seen. Concluding, things are going smoothly, models are still developmental-looking, and I have mixed feelings but it's slowly bouncing back to positive all because of crusty desmond png

There are really interesting dynamics at play in Adam’s description of Gansey making his apartment seem shabbier by being there and the contrast of Ronan fitting there, it’s a layered outlook he has because it shows how much he idolizes Gansey to a point where even now after realizing a few things about his being more motivated by fear and trauma in a way that’s similar to Adam rather than a total opposite, Adam still sees and conceives of Gansey as grand and beautiful in a way that’s larger than life, that he feels inadequate in comparison to and feels he doesn’t deserve in his life. And when it comes to the reasons his admiration of Gansey manifests in such unhealthy outlooks and feelings towards himself even at this stage after a mini breakthrough, there are the things that Gansey is as a symbol that Adam admires and is infatuated by the charm the beauty the seamless masking the wealth and status, power,polished and princely persona and then there’s also his admiration and love for who Gansey is; kind good brave beautiful loving generous warm complicated intellectual hungry to learn wondrous interesting. He covets and is enamored by both sides, but his love for Gansey as a whole person while real has to exist in this charged hyper-intense space, and is harder to let himself feel and express in vacuums when Gansey is a physical presence in front of him. A lot of that comes from class dynamics and then a lot of it comes from timing, Gansey was Adam’s introduction to and model for love and that’s a huge thing, so in every interaction or beat of their relationship even as the way he sees Gansey evolves and he grows to accept him more as a flawed complicated person, that fifteen year old Adam who stopped at the side of the road wanting to know the beautiful clever impressive boy but fearing cruelty and rejection and not being good enough / being pitiable, but then was shown kindness and curiosity and formed a real connection he still felt undeserving of / didn’t know to trust is So present emotionally even if not intellectually (because Adam is often far more emotionally erratic than he wants to see himself as and that’s the most extreme regarding Gansey, again because it was so formative). Adam’s soft underbelly gets exposed unwillingly in his relationship with Gansey in a way that’s really visceral and even more so because Adam avoids acknowledging / puts up defenses with prey animal anger and fear, and Gansey can’t see that this is the case because he can’t see through those shields and so thinks of Adam as mostly impervious to him when that’s not the case at all.

When Adam is eventually vulnerable with Ronan, it’s a lot more about Adam’s active choice to be that way or at least it is when he eventually gets to accepting his feelings for Ronan which come with accepting his own capacity to love and be loved. And through that he does expose himself to be vulnerable with Ronan in a way he hasn’t been with anyone else ever. Right now he is being vulnerable with Ronan in a way without acknowledging that to himself either, but it’s a vulnerability in terms of allowing himself to seek comfort in that relationship. Which Adam can do because Ronan, despite Adam associating him with danger in a later chapter which I’ll talk about when I get there, is someone Adam can be his unchecked self around and relax around instead of being on edge and self conscious, which is a sign that (at this point td3 is a different story) they can be good together in a way Adam and Gansey can’t. And I do think that the check out counter scene, even with the likelihood it wasn’t Ronan, is on the same level of integral memory to Adam as his first meeting with Gansey, but that boy made Adam want to be like him but wasn’t perceiving him and so Adam wasn’t thinking of how pitiable he was to him in that moment, just the “he had never wanted to be someone else so badly” (like I said previously I think all types of want and desire intersect with jealousy for Adam there’s more on that later, but he wants to take on qualities he loves in everyone he loves, he doesn’t love himself.) And then their friendship developed later on organically without the same level of idolization of it, so I think that’s part of the difference (as well as other things about the perception of Gansey vs Ronan’s wealth and how socialization around their different types of wealth effected them which I will talk more about in a few chapters).

I've started playing Potion Permit, and so far it's one of my favorite games I've messed around with, but the most big brained move the devs made was giving you a dog on day 1, and then making that dog able to track NPCs and lead you directly to them no matter where they are in the town.

I haven't reached the chapters with the Roger Pirates' backstory + Buggy talking about his relationship with Shanks yet, but I've gotten little spoilers here and there and I have some thoughts. This could be very obvious but I just connected the two dots lol.

It seems to be implied that Roger favored Shanks at least slightly more than Buggy and it didn't go unnoticed by him. Like, the fact that Shanks was the one holding the hat already says a lot. It seems like Roger had a lot of expectations for Shanks and his future. And this is also why Buggy was so disappointed in Shanks even temporarily abandoning his main ambitions and why he chose to not continue piracy alongside him. Anyway, that's not the main thing that I want to talk about.

There is this panel of someone asking Roger who he thinks is going to find the one piece to which he answers something like: my son, of course! And the other person mentions that he has no son.

I personally took this at face value and thought this was referring to Ace, and Roger's plan to have a son before dying who would follow his legacy and find his treasure and would also be someone who would be carrying the will of D. But maybe the whole thing with Rouge was a coincidence that happened after Roger disbanded his crew and left. Roger seemed to have loved babies, so maybe he just fell in love with Rouge and chose to have a child with for the sake of his own happiness before he died.

And here is something I noticed and it could be nothing or even a translation thing. But the few times that Roger mentions Ace he never refers to him as his son, but his child. He even chose two names and didn't seem to be favoring one outcome.

Basically, what I'm trying to say is, what if this was never referring to Ace and was always about Shanks. Roger basically raised him and Buggy as his sons since they were babies...

If Buggy ends up being the first one who reaches the one piece, this will also end up being ironic.

something really gets to me about eiffel and hera talking to themselves while addressing each other - in am i alone now? and the watchtower in particular. i can't say this to you, but you're still the person i want to tell it to. i know there's no way you can hear me, but if you can...

eiffel talks to himself a lot, and he is very used to being alone with no one paying much attention to the things he says, so i'm not sure he ever realized exactly how much until he was on the hephaestus. in the early days of the mission, i imagine hera responded to a lot of eiffel's asides and sort of embarrassed them both. and then that sort of... shifted. their relationship shifted, they got comfortable being around each other, and eiffel's conversations with himself started including hera, too. i like the idea of that as an establishing moment: that, at some point, there was a first time eiffel said something in an empty room, and hera was so used to him talking to himself that she didn't realize it was meant for her, and he asked her, "hera? are you there?"

i imagine hera still talked to eiffel, too, when they all thought he was dead. with each day increasingly longer and more difficult, that she would vent her frustrations to the empty comms room the same way he would've encouraged her to when he was there. she can't talk to anyone the way she can talk to him, and they just... keep talking to each other, even when they can't. they are so much a part of each other, the voice of encouragement and comfort in each other's heads. for so long, all they can really do for each other is talk, and they maintain that connection even in absence. they ask each other "are you there?" like reaching for each other's hands in the dark.

uhhh idk lily thoughts (I'm about to spew critical rambling bullshit, big sorry. these things are my badly worded opinions and nothing else.)

thinkin bout how my feelings for Lily are so complicated tbh.. in canon, I cannot like her. I just can't. The disconnect between what the narrative tries to tell us about her and the reality of who she is and what she does are just too jarring to me. for all that she's meant to be a paragon of virtue and goodness, her actions and choices come across wrong and off and bad in a way that is visceral to me, as someone who has been bullied and sexually assaulted myself. And to clarify, I'm not talking about her breaking off her friendship with Severus; she had every right to do that, and I dont think I've seen a single Snape fan actually seriously state otherwise - but because she *knowingly and deliberately chose to get with an abusive bully.* That she and Snape were no longer friends is irrelevant to me. I understand not everyone feels this way, and that's fine. But It's important to me, and so it carries weight to me. The implications are just too offputting to me, and yes, I am biased. Snape is my favorite little guy, after all. I dont pretend otherwise. To each their own, and she, as written in canon, is certainly not for me, historical context and location be damned.

So i can't like her in canon. If anything, I cant help but feel acute resentment for her character, because it feels almost like betrayal to be told "here is a perfect and good person" and then get.. that. Ironically, I would like her a whole lot more if the narrative didnt try insist on her goodness and instead was just like "actually, ngl she was kinda shitty sometimes. questionable as hell. she was a bit of a gremlin and a little bit fucked up" because then it would feel honest. she would no longer feel like a hypocrite to me, and then those moments of kindness would carry more weight, would feel more meaningful. Her actions would be more believable, would feel more nuanced and I would maybe even love her.

...and that, ultimately is what my problem with her is. she has all the potential to be such an interesting character, but she instead falls short of being a full character at all. it's not her fault; this is a jkr skill issue (and her portrayal of female characters in general leaves A Lot to be desired.), so in the end i'm not too pressed.

its exactly why i like Lily so much more in the context of fanworks. Canon lily? offputting. An incomplete character. but fanfic lily? such potential! she could *actually* be the good person she was meant to be and make different choices or at very least have reasoning that makes more sense! or she could go a new direction entirely and be an absolute gremlin menace alongside Snape and in the process, add more interest and nuance that way! all of these things are enjoyable, and for this reason i cannot say I truly hate her - because I do love her so so much when people make her their own and make her make sense, to do her justice and preserve what - i think - would have been that spark that brought Severus and Lily together in the firstplace - whether it be genuine kindness, or a friendship based on being able to relate to one another at a deeper level, on having that shared weirdness together, or even both things! (that's not to say I love every portrayal; and sometimes there are pet peeves, but they do not ruin the character for me in that scenario, for the simple reason that in these fics she *IS* ultimately a full character, which is more than what can be said about canon lily.) ... and that's the joy of fanfics and fanart and creation, isnt it? that you can make your own ideas come to life, put things together in a way that makes sense to you, and see how others would make a these stories and characters come to life. its why I can despise the marauders in their canon, and yet ship everyone of them with Severus given the right scenario. it's why I can dislike snily in the context of canon, and see their relationship as purely platonic under that lens, and yet wholeheartedly ship them otherwise in the context of fanfics and fanworks. It's why when I say i ship Severus Snape with literally everyone I can truly and genuinely mean it. Because I do. I think theres always room for a scenario, for a characterization, or AU, to allow for it. Fiction is a lovely and magical thing, and it ultimately exists for enjoyment, for entertainment and creativity.

anyway, idk if i worded this wrongly or weirdly but tldr: I dislike and am put off by canon lily, but I love what lily can be, what she could be, what she SHOULD be, I love what fans are able to do with her, I love what I wish she was.

Not to simplify a complex historical issue in a tumblr post but I think the reason Conspiracy (Elisabeth Essen/Hungarian prods) and fandom discussions/headcanons/fanwork deriving from it (ie. advancing the interpretation that the cause of Rudolf's anguish & the thing Tod is trying to manipulate him to do is the pursuit of Hungarian independence/seizing the Hungarian throne) tend to set me off is that it ignores the thing that's, like, the historical and the musical Rudolf's actual main deal, which is anti-conservative thought and the emotional pain and feelings of powerlessness brought about by living in a world full of state-sanctioned prejudice, hatred and anti-intellectualism (among other things)

Which I, for, like, personal reasons, find more compelling to reflect upon and have portrayed on stage in our 21st century world (= "oppressive politics on state level bad" seems. Relevant somehow) than stuff like a privileged person's private quest for power (throne) or a vaguely positive portrayal of nationalism (especially since Hungarian nationalism in the 21st century isn't super cuddly or feel-good ajdkdldl, so I think having those foundation myths repeated actually borders on irresponsible - depending on the framing, that is)

Plus its not historically accurate, like the conspiracy plot has not been conclusively proven to have happened. Unlike todolf [redacted] which is indisputable historical fact
