Thats a good point, I see all kinds of neurodivergence in my family but only a couple of us in my generation, afaik, have a diagnosis.
However, my gp attended a recent talk about overlap of queer folk with neurodivergence and also a group of comorbid illnesses including, iirc, POTS/MCAS/EDS/CFS theres a couple others Im just blanking. Digestive issues? Things that we've broadly noticed as a community, and it seems like its starting to be studied.
And also, everyone has some kind of trauma, idk how many people if any have no kind of disability whatsoever, humanity is vast and diverse. And we're wired to look for patterns. Interpret this information how you will, I certainly cant say for sure if these patterns are broader than trans people, or are more people trans than we expect, are we seeing correlation or causation or is there a mechanism in common with all these labels thats the deeper cause, is queerness an interchangeable/'sometimes' factor or a central one, we are way too early to know that yet.
I think its probably not nothing. But we're also not uniquely fucked up. Maybe we're just sticking out, so to speak, so thats where the research is starting. Many people werent taking ME/CFS seriously until long covid prompted more research bc, iirc, there was now a lot more people affected who were harder to ignore. And who were seeking help. Like a lot of people have an allergy or a dodgy wrist or "that weird thing with my digestion" and they dont consider it a disability or seek treatment, yknow? And especially mental health and especially what runs in families, it looks normal to you so why would you ever bring it up to a dr? "Everyone struggles with these things. Everyone feels this way" well you do and your parents and aunts and uncles do and your siblings do, and maybe you told a dr forty years ago you were in pain and they brushed you off so you thought everyone was walking around in agony.
And that gets into an adjacent conversation about medicalising and diagnosing and when does that help and when is it like, making a negative thing of normal human experiences and variations, its not a disorder till its negatively impacting your life, if youre surviving but treatment could help you thrive is it worth the side effects etc etc plus the whole discussion of psychiatry in particular which can be an amount of guesswork and diagnostic labels are often just patterns of symptoms that we see oftrn go together and we dont always yet understand the underlying neurology. (One of my all time best therapists kept up with the latest neuroscience and always had very good and effective suggestions. I only stopped seeing her bc I moved away. If you can be seeing professionals who are keeping up with research, definitely prefer them over someone who hasnt learned anything since they completed training 50 years ago. Always.)
Tl;dr I agree with OP and also this stuff is extremely complex and we're always learning new things about us!
something that should be taken with a grain of salt are the statistics talking about the high rates of mental illness + neurodivergence among trans people (ocd, bpd, adhd, autism, etc)
I see both sides of the political spectrum taking these studies at face value - conservatives say we're broken, and trans people try to come up with reasons why for example autism + gender dysphoria makes sense and why one of them feeds into another
at the end of the day you have to remember that we're the one category of people on this planet who are legally required to go see a psychiatrist in order to receive non-psychiatric medication and surgeries.
more trans people are in therapy by law than any other demographic of people, and as a result, this captures more comorbidities.
if I had to look at my own family & rates of mental illness?
mom, dad, 2 maternal aunts, maternal grandmother, paternal grandmother, sister, sibling, and me all have OCD.
7/9 of them are cishet, never been to therapy, never diagnosed. 2/9 are trans, required therapy for hormone treatment, and were diagnosed.
you don't have to do any math to just see that the resulting statistics end up intensely skewed.
and we can think back to how autism was virtually never diagnosed more than 50 years ago - ruling out any grandparents being included in statistics - and even my parents' generation (they're in their 60s now) wouldn't have been included either.
I don't think it's to anyone's benefit to accept these studies uncritically. a lot of these things are hereditary and far more prevalent in the overall population than people realize

Okay alright I'm tired of giving more children to Bruce Wayne I think we need to start taking some away 
Tim getting kidnapped (but in a way they don't announce Tim Drake-Wayne as missing??) and is given Something that induces amnesia but he escapes or maybe just literally wanders away but like he's in the middle of Ohio and he's walking down the road unsure of his own name or where he is and a weird looking camper pills over and a large man leans out the window and says “you doing alright there, sonny?” 
And he doesn't really know so he sorta shrugs so they pick him up and the man introduces himself as Jack and this is his wife Maddie and their two kids Danny and Jazz and they're just heading back from a camping trip and they can take him into town (Amity?) and take him down to the station and help him get things figured out 
The police take his picture and upload it to a “found” database or smth but there's no active or recent cases in Ohio for missing persons (or teenagers) matching his description 
(But also, Amity is pretty disconnected from the rest of the world digitally. They mind their business. Sure they run this boy's face in the newspaper and let the neighboring precincts about him but there's not much more they can do until this kid gets some memories back)
So he goes to stay with Jack and Maddie (idk how i don’t care about LAWS) while they wait to see if they get any hits or until he gets some memories back and they register him under Alvin (“hmm maybe... Tom? No, definitely not. Caroline? Alvin? That sounds the best I guess”) Fenton at the local high school so he can keep getting an education (and Alvin isn’t sure why, but this sort of feels like a waste of time, he already knows all this math stuff and why would he want to read Of Mice and Men he’s pretty sure someone told him John Steinbeck was a hack. Or maybe not. He can’t remember) but it’s simple enough and he likes the Fentons even if they keep trying to convince him ghosts are real 
And maybe they are. Actually. Real that is. He saw one the other day and had to double check if knowing ghosts were real is a common knowledge thing that he forgot of if he never knew in the first place. Jazz tells him that ghosts are pretty much an Amity specific thing but that they appear other places and then Jack and Maddie set him down and give him the entire history of ghosts that night and then show him their lab which is pretty cool
And maybe he accidentally suplexed someone who startled him in the halls on his first day and also fell asleep in science,but give him a break! he’s going through a lot right now
But his new brother roommate friend? Is helping him adjust at school by telling him who to avoid and what not to eat from the cafeteria and Jazz is in most of his classes but also he’s not sure why they’re trying to act all sneaky about this Inviso-Bill/vigilante situation because like. That’s clearly just Danny with white hair? He looks the exact same? Also he literally saw Danny walk through the bathroom door last week if it wasn’t obvious enough.
So Tim really isn’t expecting Danny to be surprised that he picked up a thermos that Phantom dropped when he and his friends ran off to fight another ghost

Why does the intro end with Jayce and not the sisters?

Pardon my shitty screenshots. I know I already made a post about the weird things in the intro, but there's even more that I didn't include in that post, and most of it is weird as HELL stuff with Jayce. This whole intro sequence has been weird as hell and I love it.
(I'll put it here since I'm not going to mention it later, but Ekko's first scene in the intro has his shadow as a clock ticking counterclockwise and I love it, but I won't talk about it again since we all pretty much know what that means.)
Last season's intro ended with our two lead women at each other's throats. That's no surprise. The whole show is about them. This one, though, ends with Jayce, a supporting member of the main cast. Matter of fact, he shows up a lot in this intro.
In my other post, I mentioned how his scene in the intro is eerily reminiscent of the moment he met Mel (other than the Council trial) when she shined a flashlight in his and Viktor's eyes in the hallway.

Could this be an indicator that he is once again meeting someone new who will change his life forever? Or could it be a reintroduction to someone he already knows? It could easily be Mel again, maybe after she's discovered and learned to control her magic? It seems like she wasn't aware of her powers until now. Considering how much the animators love to compare Mel with Viktor, it could just as easily be Viktor after he's gone full Machine Herald. They've already met again in the commune, but maybe they'll meet again when Viktor is more mechanical and Jayce is more... how do I put it politely... sane.
The light in front of Jayce's hand appears twice more, but something tells me it's a different light. Has the light evolved or is it a different light altogether?

This comes right after Mel on the lounge chair looking at the black rose and right before Viktor putting on the mask (we'll get to that). It is SO much brighter than before, less like a flashlight and more like a spotlight. Jayce's arm is more outstretched, too. It's less reminiscent of the hallway and more reminiscent of the moment he stepped onstage for the Progress Day speech. Bright, burning spotlights that he flinched at. Arm outstretched not only to block the light, but to wave at an audience.

I know it's a reach, but nothing is ever fucking reaching with this goddamned show.
So what does this mean?? Is it symbolic of the presence of magic in his life? Once a light in the dark, the path to success -- now burning, all-consuming? Is this another hubris metaphor??? I'm so tired of hubris metaphors. Let Man become God!
Seriously, what do you guys make of this? Because I have no clue. I have negative clues. Everything I see only opens new questions.

Who. The fuck. Is this.
Two pics since the camera rotates a bit and idk if the slightly different angle helps at all.
If you look at it from far away, the eyebrow ridge and nose resemble Jayce. If you peer closer, the eyebrow ridge looks more like Viktor's, but the nose still seems like Jayce. This person also looks to be at a healthy weight and has thick thighs, also qualities that Viktor unfortunately does possess. I want to say the hand also looks like Jayce's, but it's hard to tell. The lighting also makes it hard to determine their skin color. All in all, everything about this scene would suggest that the figure is Viktor except for the figure itself.
My gut instinct had me thinking it was Jayce the very first time I saw this intro, but then Viktor showed up with his blanket and mask later in the song and has been in said blanket for most of the show. The lack of purple limbs doesn't mean anything since the sisters also lost their tattoos, Mel lost her gold, and Ekko lost his face paint too.

And then we have this shot. Whose hand is that? NOT FUCKING VIKTOR'S.
That's Jayce's hand putting Viktor's mask on him. The hand looks like it fits naturally on Viktor's arm.
This could mean that Viktor will be wearing his mask because of Jayce. Partly in a "you see me as a villain, so a villain I will be" kind of way, but maybe also in a self-fulfilling time loops sort of way.
It's obvious that we're not supposed to be able to tell Viktor and Jayce apart in this intro. I even saw someone suggest that the animators made a whole new 3D model that was a mix of them both to be able to get the effect across. They might have also made one for Viktor with Jayce's hand.
This is basically saying that Jayce and Viktor are so deeply intertwined that they can't even be told apart. That's really ironic considering how different and divided they are right now. Could this imply that they'll end up back on the same side by the end?

Yeah dude, look. Most of the fandom is big into spirk so like people enjoying that romance is par for the course! I got nothing against spirk, it's just a bit of a boring dynamic so I don't really spend time on it. Too healthy for my tastes. Spones is way more juicy, it's got the tension and the sort of different world views that you see in good omens, so it's fun!
To be clear tho, spirk is as canon as it's ever been. Strong subtext, but in the way that a homophobe could watch it and say well they're just good friends. Nothing has changed in that sense, it's just another bit of footage doing more of the same. It's less gay than a lot of the original series, but it's new and shiny so on a surface level i get the excitement
Shatner, who plays Kirk, has done this as a non canon short film. It's apparently considered as canon as the novels? Which is like, not much. Most people don't engage. I haven't really looked into that, im not gonna watch it cos it kind of pisses me off
The thing that really fucks my goat about it is that the guy who plays Spock died a while ago, and didn't get along with the guy who plays Kirk. But the guy who plays Kirk has funded and produced and managed this whole thing to be about his character and his importance, regardless of the wishes of the original Spock actor. Including literally doing someone up in prosthetics to look more like Nimoy. Not just Spock generally, but specifically Nimoy's Spock. Nimoy was involved in star trek films in his late life, and he didn't choose to do this when he was alive. Only after his death has Shatner forced this to happen
That's what's leaving a really bad taste in my mouth. And I feel like people are either not accepting Nimoy's death and are happy to see him puppeted by someone he disliked, which makes me pity them. I work in aged care so I know I'm more comfortable with death than the average, but like. This is a bit fucking dark, no? It's maudlin, let him rest in peace for fucks sake.
That, or they don't mind the manipulation of his image if it tickles their ship, which makes me dislike them. And I don't think I'll really get over that any time soon, it's so disrespectful. And those are both negative feelings, so I'm kind of generally not pleased about my dash rn
I'm trying to take an angle of being about McCoy cos he doesn't feature in the short and that feels wrong. Spock-centric stuff is feeling a little tainted right now, but I'm sure that'll pass. Fanart is different to this kind of image stealing, but it's still weird for me rn. And as much as I love Kirk, I can't remove him from Shatner and his megalomania right now. I hope that'll pass, but I don't think Shatner's gonna stop here so. Hm.
Besides I like McCoy and he's not complicated by all this so I'm just continuing to play in my little sandbox
It's a weird time for trekdom. There's a bit of a rift, and not down shipping lines. I'm seeing a lot of posts working through their complicated feeling around the disrespect inherent in stealing Nimoy's face for Shatner. And I'm seeing other people celebrate the disrespect cos their ship held hands and that makes it worth it.
I'm hoping people overwhelmingly calm down a bit in a week, get a bit embarassed about how pleased they were over something so gross, and it just sort of goes away. Then we can all go back to having a go at Shatner for his constant sexism and homophobia

You are 100% correct in this but also bc I think at first, the concept of the album went over a lot of people's heads. The whole concept was essentially how high functioning depression can look to someone on the outside-
The first song is literally Tyler reacting to "What if I lost everything I loved in my life?" and it's about that weird period of grief where you sit in denial and try to pretend that everything is fine, everything is okay- when it ISN'T.
Unlike previous albums where the music would fit the tone of the lyrics, SAI was about the "mask". Fake happiness. [ Also Propoganda from Dema but that's the lore side of things ]. Choker comes from the term "choking" in basketball. You have to make a decision, you have to do something, and if you mess up- you choked. That is what Choker is about- those times in life where you know that you could have stepped up, you could have done something more, but you didn't, and how that experience can haunt you.
The lyrics and music is fun and bubbly ( aside from No Chances, lmao ), until we hit Redecorate, which is the final song on the album and Tyler explains during an interview with Apple Music:
"I had a friend of mine whose son passed away and they would keep his room the same way that he had left it. I remember thinking how crazy powerful a story that is, and how it makes me wonder, like, ‘What will people do with my stuff?’ It can actually bring you back down to earth, make sure that you don't make any horrible decisions. I'm realizing now how difficult it is to talk about, but this song is really important to me. I love the messaging of it, and I hope that our fans hear what it is I'm trying to say in it. Because it is a bit delicate, but it's one of my favorite tracks and it's pretty powerful if you let it."
Twenty One Pilots' songs are geared to make you THINK. They've said this time and time again- their music is meant to make you think about different subjects and to hit deeper. And that's the beauty of it.

yapping about fics and commenting
sorry to yap but work is boring today and tumblr isn't blocked on my work computer LOL
ok it's abt that post where the writer friend stopped writing because they weren't getting the comments/kudos they wanted.
i'm like. an overeager fandom person. like i cannot get into a fandom without wanting to meet new people and make friends. i love yapping about whatever silly gay idiots i'm hyperfixating over. i'm all about community, and sharing the joy of fandom, and all that fun positive stuff.
i don't post my art for stats but like. that means nothing coming from me tbh. i get stats. i can't accurately predict what would happen if i stopped getting notes on my art, but i would probably keep drawing and keep posting, just maybe less confidently, and less often. i recognize that stats make it much easier and while it’s not my primary motivation, it definitely motivates me to keep posting.
and yet. for years, i never commented on fic. i think i left kudos? and i saw posts like this all the time about how writers were so sad they didn't get comments. and i would feel super guilty about it all the time. but i still wouldn't do it! it sounds stupid, but i would feel pressured. if i liked a fic a lot, it felt even more difficult to comment, because i thought i would have to somehow give back to the author everything that fic gave to me. i wanted to craft the perfect comment that could perfectly encapsulate everything a fic made me feel. and that was way too much pressure so i would just not say anything.
when i got into drarry, i started reading a shit ton of fic. and i still wouldn't comment. i left maybe... 2 or 3 comments, maybe, i think. i can't remember. but i had a lot to say and i WANTED the writers to hear that i had read it and liked it. i just... didn't comment! u know what i did instead? i just fucking straight up DM'd writers on discord and started gushing to them that i liked their fic. somehow i was confident enough to do that, but writing a comment still felt like too much pressure. ?? i don't understand it either, but in my head it felt like a writing assignment, but when I was in DMs it felt more like a conversation and so there wasn't any pressure to make it "good"? idk!! it's very weird.
then i wrote and posted my first complete fic. just a oneshot, nothing special, and i was like. UNREASONABLY nervous about posting it. like. i am a confident person, okay? i was going to make a burner AO3 account and post it under a different name so nobody would know it was me, and then never mention it to anyone except MAYBE super close friends. i got talked out of doing that (thanks i feel a bit silly about considering that now). and then i received my first comment on it, which was basically a two-liner where someone said they liked it and thanked me for writing it.
and i was like. ??...?????? ???????? ...??!!! because i felt like... uncontainable glee? i was freakishly happy. the amount of serotonin those two sentences gave me was definitely unnatural.
is that healthy? idk. will it continue? idk. LOL. i hope so? but idk, some people said it wears off if you write/post for a while. but whatever, the fact that one little comment like that could make my entire day blew my mind. tbh i thought writers were just exaggerating when they said stuff like that.
ever since then i started leaving comments! that shit's easy! like what was i overthinking for? i'm such a fucking tryhard! all i gotta say is that i liked it, and even the bare minimum can bring lots of joy to someone.
so basically what im trying to say is that negative reinforcement doesn't do shit!! it just makes people feel bad about themselves. that post is nasty for guilt-tripping readers like that, and i bet you it's going to have the opposite effect (or no effect tbh).

Okay!! So this took me a bit to figure out how to break down; unlike faces I don't really think that much about this.
Something I will note is that like... Joy Ang's dragons have more lizard-y hindlegs? The way I draw these legs is very much more informed by like... wolves. Because I drew a lot of wolves in high school. So mine are digitigrade and have toes/pawpads (I don't usually literally give them paw pads but it's relevant for the way i structure them)
As with the last one of these, I'll give a plain text of what I wrote down under the cut!! Hope you enjoy, totally not @ilikebookssomuch~ :P
Willoillo's Hastily Drawn Guide to Dragon Legs!!

Step 1: Lines!!!

My legs are 3 segments (well 4 but we'll get to that) so I usually start by plotting each segment.
The first segment and the last segment are about the same length!!
Step 2: Flesh out Shapes
[Image ID: The same zagged lines as previously, but at each point where the line changes directions, there is a circle. On the "top" segment is the largest circle, with the other two being smaller. On the end of each segment is a small semi-circle. There are three arrows pointing to each circle; the biggest one is labelled "hip," the next one is "knee" and the third one is "ankle."]
I start with circles for each joint, then connect them. Also, our 4th segment appears!! The toes!!
Step 3: Define Layers

I figure out what's in front of what & solidify outlines.
Step 4: Toes & Claws
[Image ID: Same as previous image, but now a small curved line has been added at each joint, and the semicircle to represent the toes has been separated into four round shapes with claws. A claw has been added to the back of the ankles, as well. Arrows point to the shapes to show the knee and ankle lines.]
Break toe shape down; add claws and ankle/knee shapes to show definition. Some dragons don't get the back claw.
Step 5: Details!!

what do you think of the new pteri day stuff? personally i'm not a fan of the cardinal outfit mainly because something about the face just looks wrong to me, but i like the museum outfit and am glad we got a new one of those. and i think the candy pteri is so funny. i think it's cool to have a choice between a more typical-looking, but still cute, candy pet, and between using PB clothes to turn it into a peep. i've already seen people make hilarious customs with the peep pteri.

Candy: Yeah I'll admit, I'm not the biggest fan of this one, sorry. I do like the concept of it being based off a Peep (though admittedly most people outside of the US don't know what that is—note for non-US readers: a Peep is a vaguely bird-shaped marshmallow covered in sugar crystals sold around the holidays), and I do appreciate them doing two designs, one "outfit" that's super literal and then one that's more pet-specific, which shows a good deal of effort. Also, the outfit is pretty funny purely from a meme perspective in the same vein as the Maraquan Nimmo.
However, my problem is that we're on two ends of the extreme with both designs: one is literally straight up a Peep(TM) with nothing Pteri-like about it whatsoever, and one is a vaguely glittery Pteri with nothing particularly candy-like about it. Why not blend the two? Give us a Pteri with the same texture, but round out the claws, feathers, etc. Make the eye markings all blobby, give the head feathers and tail that signature Peep flip, make the pupils the little candy dots, and maybe even have a little bite taken out of the wing to show off the marshmallow interior. You could even still keep the same outfit for the meme if you want, but then you'd at least have a high-effort Peep-inspired Pteri instead of a Peep(TM) and a low-effort Pteri colour, which I think is an import distinction.

Forest (Outfit): Once again, not a huge fan. I've never really liked these hyper-realistic animal outfits; I'm playing Neopets for the neat fantasy creatures, so for me, having an outfit that's just like, a straight-up cardinal feels pretty boring.
Putting aside personal preferences though, I also just find this really uncanny? It's a bad combo of way, way too much texturing and detailing on a very cartoonish body with eyes that really don't belong on that face. The rendering itself is at least objectively well-done with lots of nice shading, but I would've much preferred just a regular non-textured Pteri with the same colors and markings. Once again, the difference between making a Neopet inspired by something IRL and just making something that already exists IRL.

Museum (Outfit): Okay, now this one I do like a lot. I already made a review covering museum outfits and in it I mentioned wanting more that aren't just mammals. The Pteri is a welcome addition, following the same format as the other museum outfits but having the skeleton hang from suspension wires instead of it sitting on a platform like all the others. That's really nice attention to detail and works perfectly with the concept. While the rendering here is still more detailed than Neopets' art tends to be, it's not bothersome as it's not uncanny (being a skeleton) and you can still very easily tell it's a Pteri.
My only minor gripe is that the placard shows just a straight-up pterosaur, which is weird. I get that the Pteri is supposed to look a bit like a pterosaur with the head crest and everything, but just having a real-life dinosaur on there is kind of distracting. That's a very minor point though; otherwise, I'm a big fan of this one.

Something I just noticed is that the things we've seen from the movie don't feel like an official productions and more like a parody. I know that was written poorly but I'll try to explain. You know those life action mixed with weird realistic like3D animation stuff you find on youtube? That's what the movies feels like. It really feels like a fan project not a universal movie. Now that's not necessarily a bad thing it just weirds me out. It looks goofy in the weird way so why not brand it as that instead of the "Minecraft movie we have all been waiting for". If they simply embraced how absurd some a lot of the stuff they put into this movie instead of doubling down (like jack black did) I feel like the fans would take it much better.
I do think we went on a hate train about the movie just a bit but its kind of understandable to me as people were waiting for several years for this movie and the quality we've seen heck the fact UNIVERSAL STUDIOS were making the movie makes the level of quality we got feel so cheap. I think a comparison between this movie and the FNAF movie can be made. Both were made by considerably large players in the industries, both were based on indie games (if the two even count as indie games anymore), both had a considerably long wait time for release, and both had large fan bases. Now to me the FNAF movie feels like it will be better then the minecraft movie and I say "feels like" because the movie hasn't been released yet.
Gonna stop myself here but these were just some thoughts I had and are my opinions. Feel free to ignore me if you wish.

Why King Candy has been so underrated and misunderstood for a long time (Still is, but to a lesser extent)

Hi everyone; so, usually, I'm not a trend chaser, in fact, I completely missed out on the hype of the Murder Drones finale by not releasing something for the occasion, as I have been very busy this past couple of months, and still am, but I've decided to make a special, out of program post just for my new current hyper fixation, that being King Candy from Wreck-It Ralph, who, for the past couple of weeks, has slowly risen up to become my third favourite Disney movie villain of all time.
And all of that, as some of you might have guessed, happened because I watched @king-crawler 's two hour long video essay on the character and the movie that he comes from.
Needless to say, just like many others before, it inspired me to add my own two cents to the conversation, and talk about some points that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere else.
This is probably the only Wreck-It Ralph related analysis that I'm ever going to make.
I even thought about scrapping this whole analysis, because midway through development I thought that I was just spewing out nonsense, but I kept going because some of my points may give food for thought to someone who understood this character way better than me.
I may reblog some analysis/art posts of this character, but I'm not going to turn WIR into a staple of my blog; however, if I see a lot of people in the comments or the reblogs adding stuff or points to my arguments, I could always make a sequel post to this one.
But first, I need to get something out of the way immediately.
Spoilers below the cut if you never saw this movie, kind of important, as it is the movie's major plot twist:

With all that said, enjoy the read, I'll now elaborate on the meaning of my title, also, here's the video in question; I highly encourage everyone to check it out, as it is a way better sequel to Wreck-It Ralph than the one who was lost in the depths of Lake Laogai:

Clarifications:
Wreck-It Ralph is an amazing movie, but one for which I've never had much to think about.
Don't get me wrong, I always considered it to be the smartest Disney movie ever made since my first watch, but I saw it for the first time relatively late, after I had consumed other Disney movies as childhood classics and other crossover movies featuring video game characters, so it never had neither a nostalgia nor hyper fixation factor as reasons as to why I should have put the story under a microscope after that.
Also, as Rando says at the beginning of their video, it is not a movie that blew me away after my first watch. Or the second. Or the third.
Why is this section important? It is important because these are my subjective opinions of the movie, which are unfortunately going to subtly influence what I'm about to say in one way or another, regardless of me trying to speak from a place of supposed "objectivity".
I'm really passionate about this world now thanks to Randomalistic, but you won't get the same vibe from this post as you would get from one made by long time fans of this movie.

King Candy/Turbo has always been... in a weird spot for me.
Just like the movie where he comes from, I never really cared about Turbo until a month ago, despite always feeling like I should have loved him a lot more, especially since Deltarune chapter 2 released a while ago, and the character of Spamton G Spamton is someone for whom I have very strong feelings about; and Turbo, in a technical sense, is literally the spiritual predecessor of that guy (actually, Turbo is the spiritual predecessor of a lot of similar characters, he kinda was ahead of his time).
If I had made a Disney tier list for their movie villains, a completely subjective one for that matter, I would have put him in A tier, but thinking that he should have gone in B tier... while also feeling like neither were appropriate placements for him.
Randomalistic's video finally helped me fall in love with the character; so much in fact, that it got me thinking:
"Damn, if Turbo is actually this amazing of a villain, why was(is) he so underrated and overlooked by general audiences, when he admittedly is, in my opinion, one of the best Disney villains of all time? Frollo is by and large considered the best villain out of any Disney movie, and the HOND was nowhere near as successful as Wreck-It Ralph when it first released, so it can't just be a matter of first impressions (?). Maybe there are other factors, that stop audiences from recognizing Turbo as the Magnum Opus of villainy that he truly is..."
... And that's exactly what I'm going to discuss!
Let's get right into it.
The minor stuff.
First things first:

He's ugly. I'm sorry to all of the people who ironically and unironically simp for him, but that's a design only a mother could love.
On a serious note, KC and Turbo's designs always felt... not very eye-catching to me? (The bug form is excluded from this conversation)
I'm not saying these are bad designs, far from it; but each form has on them a certain amount of design decisions that, by the authors own decisions, make them unappealing to a viewer like me (I'm using myself as reference point because the topic that I'm talking about is inherently subjective).
Starting off with King Candy, is design has to balance a lot of different aspects simultaneously: it has to be eyecatching, so that the viewer can pay attention to him as an antagonist, and believable enough so that the watchers buy the fact that he is the King of Sugar Rush and not someone else, but it also has to be generic and fake enough so that it can later on add up to the fact this is just a performance, a facade, a ruse, a costume, and not the real character, it also needs to be friendly enough so that the audience can be manipulated together with Ralph into believing that he actually is a good guy;
I could go on and on listing off all the amazing things, that the King Candy facade pulls off simultaneously, but exactly because the design has to feel real and fake at the same time, it also, by proxy, ends up feeling weird, and that inexplicable sentiment can end up alienating the viewers who are watching the movie and the ones who have finished consuming it without thinking too deeply about what the meaning of the KC's facade actually was.
In the case of Turbo's design, all the people working behind the movie did such an amazing job making him look as scary, ugly, alien, and deranged as possible, all the while keeping him relatively PG friendly; the result clearly paid off, but Turbo's ugliness is not as slick as the likes of Ratigan's, nor is it as nightmarishly horrifying as the Other Mother's.
The most nightmare fuel qualities of Turbo's design are hidden out of plain sight, which is basically a recurring theme with his character.
To put it in a funny way, his looks neither end up in the conventionally attractive territory that most other Disney villains fall into, nor do they grab the attention of the Monster Fu###rs crowd.
I have zero things to say about the Cy-bug form, but I do have a section later on where I talk about that entire scene in and of itself.
All in all, it might just be me, but the first impressions of this character's design don't really do him any favours when it comes to his popularity.
I now love both designs, but before, they just didn't click with me, and I think some other people might understand what I'm talking about.
Admittedly, I could have explained this section better, but these were mostly my personal opinions and they are not really important in the grand scheme of things, unless somebody else agrees with me, in that case I'd have to take a closer look at the situation.
Second of all:

The marketing.
To be honest, I feel like what really elevated all of the most iconic Disney villains into pop culture status was a joint push from the company and the artists to include these characters into more stories and products.
Like, sorry to all of the Oogie Boogie fans, but that character is barely in his movie and doesn't do a lot, and he wouldn't be nearly as iconic as he is if Disney didn't use him again multiple times after his first debut.
And the same can honestly be said for all of Disney's most popular villains; they got used multiple times in multiple different projects, that either kept them mostly the same, changed them with some unique twists (that change in quality, but that's up to you), expanded on their preestablished characters, or put them into unique situations that showcased just how versatile they are.
Kingdom Hearts, The House Of Mouse and Descendants are very obvious examples of what I'm talking about, but even appearances in lesser known stories like Lady Tremaine in Cinderella 3, Captain Hook in Jake and the Neverland pirates, or the entirety of Disney Twisted Wonderland help solidify these characters as pop culture icons;
All except Frollo.
Frollo is the only one whose hype and cultural recognizability wasn't built up by the company or the media in which he was featured, but by the fans of the original movie.
And despite Disney almost never used that character ever again after his debut, he, his movie, and Hellfire still get a lot of prise and are talked about classics to this very day.
Because Frollo is just that freaking awesome.
Turbo, on the other hand... is barely in anything.
Let's get the most obvious stuff out of the way first: King Candy is a relatively new character, released in an era where Disney was slowly starting to integrate the new, corporate ideals that we see today.
All of the villains that I've mentioned previously already became tried and true successes by that point, so even if the company doesn't care about having good villains anymore they still use their likeability because it has already shown in the past to bring in audiences.
It's also the main reason as to why Mother Gothel is used so rarely: King Candy, as the last truly great Disney movie villain (excluding Tamatoa, who's barely used anyway, and movies not produced by their main animation studio), arrived at a point in time when the company wasn't pushing for their villains anymore, and instead actively sanitized some of them in their new stories (you know what I'm talking about); therefore, Turbo, being actually incredibly dark on second look, and with no actual intention of tuning him down like Jafar because he hadn't already reached the iconic status by that point, had no reason to make any big appearance ever again or be paraded around as much.
There are some more reasons as to why Turbo likely doesn't have more stuff dedicated to him, like the fact that he is technically 3 characters at the same time, but I don't want to prolong this section too much.
So instead, how about we take a look at some of his other appearances outside of Wreck-It Ralph?
Let's see...
He has various cards in Lorcana, which is his most recent appearance, mind you;
He became a playable character in the 7th season of Disney Speedstorm, a game where I was hoping he would be the main villain, due to a variety of reasons, but hey, that's perfectly fine;
And he was mentioned multiple times in Disney Heroes Battle Mode, a game where he hopefully is the secret main villain, as it would pay off a large amount of story and design decisions chosen for that game, but it's probably just wishful thinking and unless the game's plug is pulled, I doubt we'll see him anytime soon.
Ok, it's more than nothing, but it's also not that special if you ask me.
But hey! At least he got a boss fight in a Kingdom Hearts game! That's more than Randall can say! He was a major boss in Union Cross... the mobile game... that you can't play anymore... and since KH adheres strictly to its own canon most of the time, it also probably means that we'll never get to play through the storyline of the first WIR in any future mainline game, and we're more likely to see a world based around the second movie instead.......
Yeah.
That seems to be it, unless I'm missing something huge (feel free to let me know).
This section is important because Cruella De Vil became one of my favourite Disney villains of all time not after seeing her in the original movie, but after I saw her in 101 Dalmatian Street, a niche show that almost nobody knows; so other medium appearances are important to these characters popularity, especially when not all of these villains are Frollo.
ALSO, PLUS 1+, I was originally going to cut this point, but I decided to add it anyway: the Italian voice actor.
After recently rewatching this movie in English, (I'm Italian, we in Italy translate the movies to our language because it's easier than learning an entirely different language for them), I have to really admit that Alan Tudik's voice performance really does a lot of heavy lifting for the character's memorability.
This is not to say that the Italian voice dub sucks or that King Candy's Italian voice actor does a bad job, in fact, the voices are actually quite similar to each other, it's just that Alan's performance has that small edge of hidden bitterness that really brings the character together; though I do prefer Turbo's Italian voice for its twist reveal: the more raspy, heavy tone of the actor really highlights the vicious, alien nature of his character, as well as the sense of dread that Vanellope is feeling in this moment; I encourage you to give it a watch.

Again, this is extremely minor, and it really only affects me specifically, but don't worry, it's not going to have influence over the rest of this post.
These were just additional points and not the actual meat of my argument, so now I'll start discussing what I actually wanted to talk about from the very beginning:

Who is he?
I think that one of the main reasons as to why Turbo is so underrated is because we spend way less time than with most other Disney villains (before him) to know him as a person.
Think about it:
Most other Disney villains, or at least the most popular ones, all have moments where they are doing nothing to progress the plot, that are dedicated solely to get us to know them better.
Hades has several moments with his minions to show off his personality and anger, Jafar has silly little moments with Iago that show off his depravity, Maleficent has talks with her crow that make her more dynamic, Ursula has her introduction scene where she spies on Ariel and does nothing but talking, and Captain Hook... has 30% of his screen time dedicated to just that.
Heck, Hellfire, one of the most iconic sequences in all of Disney, is just a character set piece for Frollo, and it's arguably completely disposable, as it doesn't really do anything to progress the story, it just explores Frollo's character in deeper depth and that happens to make the big difference when it comes to him.
King Candy doesn't really have an obvious character centric moment, something easy for the audience to quickly latch onto: every time we see him, he is always doing something to push the plot forward.
Yeah, there's that small character interaction with the Donut cops when he gets glasses, and other small moments here and there, like the would you hit a guy with glasses joke, but nothing truly character-defying.
I also don't count King Candy's first scene as a character centric moment, as that's more of an introduction rather than an elaboration, but it is technically valid, even if it ultimately is just a facade that he puts up to serve his needs.
Speaking of which: the fact that most of what we see of Turbo throughout the story could be entirely fake is definitely something that I could use to make the argument in this section stronger, but I'd rather save it up for later.
Also, side note:

I think that the moment most dedicated to him only, to show off a different, "true" aspect of his personality, is when he is walking back and forth in the castle waiting for his cops to show up again.
This moment is so interesting on rewatch, as it is one of the few moments in the entire movie where I can safely say that Turbo is being 100% genuine and isn't putting up any facade whatsoever, as there really is no benefit to him appearing distressed in this situation.
In general, it's funny to think that Turbo's most genuine reactions are of fear.
Back to point one, do you wanna know why Maleficent was given a crow in Sleeping Beauty? The reason as to why was for her to have someone to bounce off, a way for the writers to showcase more facets of her character, and while Candy has Sour Bill, the movie never uses the relationship between the two to show off a different aspect of his character.
To be clear, I'm not saying that Turbo is a worse character than these other Disney villains, or that without these moments of calmness he doesn't work, one great example
Do you know that Calhoun in early development had a camouflage ability, meant to highlight how she hides her feelings but was scrapped because it made her harder to relate to? Well, let's just say that Turbo's entire character is a What If scenario where that idea actually went through.
It's a double edged sword: King Candy is so interesting because he is so mysterious and surprising all throughout the movie, but exactly because he has to be so mysterious, he is not a character as easy to understand as some of the other villains from the company; it's incredibly easy to miss out on just how cruel he is and the full scale of all the damage that he has done.

I, AM, .......the twist villain.
There's also something to be said about how popular to the conversation the twist that King Candy is Turbo became.
Everyone loves this reveal, am I right?
It may not be the best moment in the movie, but my god if it isn't hype, all thanks to the music, the lighting, the setup, yada yada yada....
But the identity reveal scene is to Candy what the Genocide Boss Fight is to Sans: it's the most impactful moment about his character, to the point where it becomes the entire baseline where most discussions are built around, which, more often than not, lead a lot of people to overlook other things about Turbo.
Let me explain: how many analysis videos have you seen where the person making it talks more about the setup and subtle hints present in King Candy's earlier scenes that slowly build up to the twist and less about the events happening in it?
The reveal is amazing, don't get me wrong, but if Rando's video didn't come along to dive deep into King Candy's earlier scenes with the twist already in mind, the true impact of what Candy had been doing throughout the entire movie up to this point would have been lost on me, and I can imagine someone else feeling the same, as me, casual enjoyer of WIR, have been conditioned to think of Candy more for his well planned out surprise, rather than for how that surprise makes the character more engaging (I hope this makes sense).
I also want to mention this video ranking all the different twist villains from Disney and Pixar where CellSpex says that the Turbo twist is useless, since the movie doesn't do much with it afterwards.
Now, aside from the fact that CellSpex is clearly in the wrong and she's missing the point, I think this lack of reconsideration highlights that casual viewers care more about the Turbo plot twist than they care about Turbo himself.
But honestly, I don't believe people focusing too much on the twist is that big of a problem, more so, the problem stems when you want to use the twist... to discuss something else.
Now, I think it's perfectly fine if you want to use Turbo to explain why other Disney twist villains don't work, but when the villains that King Candy is compared to the most are Hans, Yokai, and Bellwether, you kind of start to think that he is only the best of the worst, and not an actual amazing antagonist in his own right.
It may not be a message that was intended to be sent, but it is something that may subconsciously cling to someone's brain, especially when you consider that there might be a huge audience of people who watch these videos because they saw Hans in the title (wishing for the video to bash him), and have seen Frozen, Zootopia and Big Hero 6, but have never seen Wreck-It Ralph in their lives, and they get all their knowledge of Turbo from them.
It's exasperating, especially when King Candy has way more in common with renaissance Disney villains than contemporary ones.
Yes, through technicality, he is a twist villain, but he's more so a hybrid antagonist to be honest.
And even worse than people just grouping up Candy with a bunch of morons, as I've just discovered by reading a comment from this Turbo Tribute, is that some people apparently despise him for starting the Disney Twist villain trend: even if he's leagues better than his competition, the simple fact that you can attribute some of the blame for the fall of villainy onto him, is enough for someone to despise him.

King of the Cy-bugs (feat Rockotar):
Very recently, I've rewatched Rockotar's video analysis of the first Wreck-It Ralph, and when he arrived at the "Welcome, to the Boss Level!" scene, I decided to analyse all the possible reasons as to why he (and possibly many others, such as, admittedly, myself) wasn't as entranced by it as basically any other scene from the movie, who he had been praising non-stop up until this point.
And I think I understood why: aside from the fact that this scene is only a setup for Ralph's sacrifice (and I wished the actual boss fight to be longer and more creative), the Boss Fight is less of a climax for Ralph's journey and more so a character study for who Turbo/King Candy is.
In my opinion, this is the closest we ever get to a "villain at rest" moment with Turbo because in every other scene of the movie, King Candy is always doing something, he's always active and we never see him doing anything that doesn't coincide with his role.
And, paradoxically to what I've just said about this being a "villain at rest" moment, in this scene, he is still doing something and being active in the plot, only that this time, instead of advancing the story, he's holding it back from its conclusion.
This scene simplifies Turbo's character to his most bare bone essentials: he's a short-tempered jerk, a power hungry murderer, a virus; it's all pretty interesting stuff once you take a sweet moment to break it down.
However, there's a point that I briefly mentioned before that I want to bring up; this creature that we are laying your eyes upon, is now three different people all at once, King Candy (anxious, quiet and manipulative), Turbo (short-tempered, competitive and spiteful), and now this Cy-bug hybrid.
To reiterate what I've said before, if you don't think about it for long enough, you aren't going to understand who either character is exactly.
Because that's the big thing: all of his facades, implied development off screen and reactions are so well constructed that at certain points, it feels like we're following two different characters simultaneously, which fits perfectly with the narrative that so called "real" Turbo died and now he's no longer himself, but...
I'm scratching the bottom of the barrel to bring up other possible points as to why this character is so underrated, and the lack of a clear identity seems like a pretty obvious thing to me.
But that's only two out of the three characters I mentioned; we need to take a second look at the Cy-bug form, who, in many ways, is simultaneously the thesis and antithesis of his character.
In particular, there's one thing I want to consider:
There's this theory made by somebody else that says Turbo, upon getting eaten by the Cy-bug, didn't take over the animal's conscience and control his body, instead, upon eating King Candy, the Cy-bug took upon himself his mannerisms, meaning that, according to this theory, neither King Candy nor Turbo technically survived the encounter.
If we accept this theory as true, then that means that even during what is supposed to be a character study, the character that the movie is highlighting may also be just as fake as the act that was put up until this point, meaning that, in a sense, we never saw the real Turbo in the movie.
He was three people at once.

In Conclusion:
Turbo is, ironically and unironically, an incredibly subtle character, and that makes it extremely easy for a lot of people to overlook and miss out on the most subtle details and characteristics that make him truly exceptional;
Him being so deceptive and mysterious helps and hinders his popularity, as some either love the mystery surrounding him, others fail to get a good grasp on who he truly is and become disinterested.
He is, by design, a building block, a puzzle to be solved, a character to piece together, that makes him so much fun!
But also, if you aren't interested in putting the pieces together, then he may not be up everyone's alley.
I definitely feel like the best thing that Randomalistic did in her/their video on Wreck-It Ralph was create an easy jumping point for new fans/casual watchers of the movie to get insanely invested over the story and characters;
I'm sure it was incredibly easy for many other people like me to focus only on the most talked about aspect of Turbo, aka the plot twist, and overlook all the other things that were not as much in your face as that; I was blinded by the spotlight, and it made it hard to see the genius that was put everything else;
Now, thanks to Random highlighting King Candy's cruelty and repulsive behaviour, my favourite thing about Turbo is how he weaponized the "disability" of a child to marginalise and persecute her, discriminating her for it all of her life WHEN HE'S THE ONE WHO MADE HER "DISABLED" IN THE FIRST PLACE.
This man, is so HORRIBLE, and he deserves to be publicly exposed for all the heinous s##t that he did, not just for being the best of a bunch of villains who frankly he shouldn't even be attempted to be compared to.
Anyway, I hope someone had fun reading this. I definitely felt like I started to write this with some really good ideas that I wanted to share, but in the end, I feel like they weren't all that interesting to begin with.

How are you dealing with Tarlos being over? I’m seriously not good. It helps that Ronen said they are best friends off screen but knowing that we will never see them together again is really making me sad.
Hello! Thank you for this question. Firstly, a huge internet hug for you because I really feel your pain 💔❤️❤️❤️❤️ and this is a topic we're all grappling with I'm sure. In terms of Tarlos as characters, I'm trying not to look at it as them being totally 'over' because they and the other characters can live on through art and fanfic, just like they did during the hiatuses between seasons. We didn't need 'new' canon content to keep creating. We just...kept creating. Although this was perhaps fuelled by looking forward to the show’s return, I don't see why that has to be all that different now. There are fandoms that revolve around single books, single movies, and thrive on a lot less content than we have to work with. 
However, I appreciate that you might not be a reader of fic, and indeed even if you are…..The show itself and the physical portrayal of these characters is certainly ending far too soon, and honestly I fucking hate that. I feel sad in my body. I'd go as far to say I'm actually bitter about it, and bitterness is a horrible, horrible feeling! I keep thinking – if we hadn't had a season 3, we'd have missed out on so many amazing moments on screen, culminating in the proposal. If we hadn't had a season 4, we'd have missed out on the soulmates scene and the wedding! No season 5, no seeing TK being flung onto a dresser, no dancing at the party, none of the Enzo/Jonah/Carlos' investigation stuff that I'm LOVING. Which leaves me with this strong ache as I wonder what we are missing out on with no season 6, 7, 8... 
So, the silver lining is that the fandom will make the best out of a shit situation creatively, but it is a shit situation in reality. I think it's absolutely fine for us to mourn this loss and be there for each other, because those of us who profoundly love this show and Tarlos are all in it together and understand the magnitude. I am certainly in a weird state of grief not related to death but related to this different kind of loss, and there will always be part of me hurting over this thing I love so much. I only found the show after season 3 and it just doesn't feel like I've had enough time with it. I haven’t had enough fun!
I hope we do get to see Ronen and Rafa reunite again from time to time. They’ll be at the Paris convention in December, and maybe others along the way if their schedules allow. I was lucky enough to go to the one in June last year and Ronen, Rafa, Natacha and Sierra certainly did appear to be very close irl, so definitely do take heart in that – it’s a reason to believe we’ll get at least glimpses of them together going forward.
So yeah. I’m finding good things where I can in all this, but the headline is that I really am sad and struggling too, and I’m so sorry you are and I hope you’re able to fill your day with things that help you to feel a bit better. I hope everyone who reads this is able to do the same.

and GOD i was just thinking about that fucking scene the other day it's so FUNNY it KILLS ME. the way the juxtaposition really makes it look like cyclonus is flirting via the 'oh no our hands touched.......' move. the fact mags, god bless his soul, is clearly coming out with something he memorized from a self-help book and/or therapy session regarding How To Communicate Your Feelings Clearly In Social Situations. I'M GOING TO GO OVER THERE NOW. he's. he's trying. it's so funny. all this is happening while magnus explains he is trying to write a book about how you can rules lawyer yourself into living an Objectively Happy Life if you just follow these 74627485 carefully described rules. they are both disasters.
and you know i actually do think that having a scene where cyclonus and magnus interact this way is also quite... like, it's interesting, because early on we see that magnus is very unhappy about cyclonus being onboard and not shy about it, but at the same time it makes sense cyclonus would see some reason to relate to magnus? they're very different in many ways, but they're also both very repressed people who nonetheless have A Lot Of Feelings that seep through, and cyclonus recognising that is genuinely interesting! but it's also. completely hilarious ngl

The heart of the barbarian King
<--Previous
Chapter 4
"Kacchan, I brought berries!" Izuku beams, holding a basket full of them, as he walks back inside the house.
As soon as the alpha sees him, he relaxes immediately and smiles at him fondly.
"I'm guessing you had fun in the market again."
"I did!" The omega nods as he starts washing the fruit so they can eat them as soon as possible. "Your friends are great!"
"They're not bad," Katsuki concedes somewhat, refusing to admit they're awesome, even though Izuku knows he's glad to have them. "Which are your favorites?"
"Huh?" Izuku tilts his head, a bit confused as the alpha hugs him from behind and starts nuzzling the back of his neck.
"The berries."
"Oh! Blueberries, obviously!"
He hears Katsuki chuckle behind himself.
"Obviously."
"They're the best berries, Kacchan," Izuku says, smiling too. For a moment, it's like none of the bad stuff happened and this was his choice: to live near the mountain with his childhood friend. "You seem tense. What happened?"
"I'm feeling much better now," Katsuki assures him, nuzzling against the omega's cheek as soon as he turns around. "It's just... some of them are a bunch of idiots and I have to deal with them almost every single day."
"I'm sorry to hear that, Kacchan," Izuku mumbles sincerely as he places a few berries on a plate and sits next to the alpha at the table. "Here. This will make you feel better!"
"You make me feel better," he assures him, but he takes a bite of the strawberry the omega is offering him.
For some reason, the custom of feeding him the first two bites of every single dish feels a lot intimate now.
It's a bit weird to feed one's friends like that. But Izuku doesn't want to be rude after everything Katsuki has done for him.
"Kacchan, if I ever eat with your friends do I have to feed them too?"
"NO!" Katsuki growls, and for a moment, Izuku thinks he can smell something sour in his scent, but it's just for a few seconds. "Sorry, I didn't mean to yell. What I was trying to say was that you shouldn't... It's just you and me because... we live together."
"Oh! I see!" Izuku nods. "Thanks for letting me know, Kacchan! I wouldn't want to make a mistake!"
Katsuki still looks tense though, so Izuku hands him a cranberry that the alpha eats from his hand before taking a few himself.
He feeds Izuku a couple of blueberries too.
"Wait, you have–" he interrupts himself when he notices the juice of the blueberries sliding from the omega's bottom lip.
Izuku can't see it, but he feels it; he blushes, getting embarrassed and trying to find something to clean himself with when the alpha grabs him by the chin and uses his thumb to remove some from his lower lip...
Katsuki abruptly stops as soon as he realizes what he's doing; he turns completely red and blinks a couple of times. He suddenly rises from the chair and tells Izuku he's done eating and that he wants to rest because he's tired.
"I need to go to my room."
The omega thinks it's a bit early to sleep, but Katsuki is a King; the responsibilities he has to deal with daily must be really exhausting.
He deserves to rest. Izuku cleans everything, washes his face, and eventually goes back to his room.

"It's going to be alright, Izuku," the alpha assures him, caressing his shoulder gently as they walk to the middle of the town and sit on the ground around a huge bonfire.
It's been a week since Izuku arrived there and, according to Katsuki, the heads of the clans have grown curious about him and want to meet him.
"You don't even have to talk to them," the barbarian says. "They just want you to be here to see you since you'll be living with me from now on."
Izuku supposes that's fair; they're protective of their people and wouldn't want anyone dangerous to live among them.
He relaxes a bit when he manages to see Jiro, Ashido, Kaminari and Kirishima arriving; they make sure to wave at Izuku and sit next to them.
"Let me scent you, nerd."
The omega nods immediately; Katsuki is the one he trusts the most, and being surrounded by his scent will help him feel a lot better.
The alpha pulls him into his arms before making sure to nuzzle against his scent glands throughly; this time, it feels different for some reason, even when Izuku shyly scents Katsuki back.
"Geez!" Jiro grimaces, looking in their direction before glaring at the barbarian King. "I think that's quite enough! We get it, he's yours!"
Katsuki smirks triumphantly as Izuku gets distracted by the group of barbarians who bring a couple of instruments with them.
He perks up when the sound of music starts filling the air.
"Come on, nerd. Let's dance!"
"But I don't know how to!"
"Just follow my steps and you'll be fine!"
He manages to copy Katsuki's steps and follow the rhythm of the music just fine, and he realizes he's having so much fun! At some point, Katsuki grabs him by the waist and lifts him as he turns them both around. Kaminari and Kirishima are dancing and laughing next to them.
"See?" Katsuki chuckles, putting the omega back on the ground before going back to their spot. The King had arranged his own cape so Izuku could sit on it. "It wasn't difficult at all."
The omega nods because he's a bit distracted by the plates a woman placed on their spot and notices that his has a few blueberries on the side.
As other people dance around the bonfire, Izuku and Katsuki start eating; the omega makes sure to feed him the first two bites of his plate and the barbarian does the same.
After a while, Izuku notices that a couple of people are watching them with curiosity.
"Pay them no mind, Izuku," the alpha mumbles before nuzzling against his cheek softly and placing a hand on his leg almost protectively.
After a while, the heads of the clans decide to leave, but they approach them first and bow in front of Katsuki and Izuku before walking away.
Except three of them. They pay their respects to their King, but ignore the omega completely.
Katsuki growls, looking like he's about to start a fight, but Izuku places a kind hand on his cheek to calm him down.
Kirishima is right next to them in a second.
"Don't make things worse, man," he tells him. "They're doing this to provoke you for what you did to Chisaki. But it's okay, the important thing here is that the majority of them approve of Izuku already."
"It's not like their approval matters to me–"
"I know, but it's an important part of being a King," Kirishima reminds him.
Katsuki rolls his eyes, but grunts in agreement.
"Fucking politics," he grimaces before pulling the omega closer and burying his face in the curve of his neck.
As Izuku strokes his back to calm him down, he looks up at the alpha with red hair and smiles at him.
"Thank you," he says sincerely, prompting Kirishima to smile happily in return.
"You're welcome, Midoriya! Although you do a lot for him already too!"
Izuku is not so sure about that, but he's determined to try; Katsuki is his friend, and he'll be more than happy to help him now that he's stuck in the barbarian kingdom. It's the least he can do.

Katsuki starts teaching him hand to hand combat; he's good at it, he explains calmly to Izuku what the weak spots on an average person are, and which part of the body he should usually aim for.
"Although, if they're a trained warrior, that won't stop them," the alpha continues, moving around Izuku in a circle. "You should try to analyze your opponent while you're fighting them and find their weaknesses."
It's like All Might used to tell him; Izuku recalls, trying not to get distracted by the memory of him.
He wonders where he could be at the moment.
Of course, Izuku ends up on the ground after a few minutes; Katsuki has had a lot of training over the years, and a good one because the barbarians are very skilled when it comes to fighting techniques.
"Not bad, nerd," he smirks, offering the omega his hand to pull him up. "You learn really fast."
They keep doing that in Katsuki's spare time over the next couple of days. They also pay a lot of visits to Dynamight so Izuku can pet the cute dragon and tell him how amazing he is.
"He's not cute!"
Jiro and Kaminari spend a lot of time with him lately, and Izuku thinks he can safely think of them as his friends too.
They're getting ready for the trip to the city, although Jiro says that the trip has been postponed a couple of times and she's not entirely sure why.
"But..." Kaminari tilts his head in confusion. "Would you be able to go? I mean... the dark magic won't stop you from leaving this place?"
"It's not the place," Izuku explains. "It's you... I mean, all of you. As long as I don't leave your people, I should be fine. And since I'll be traveling as part of your group, nothing will happen."
Kaminari smiles at him, visibly relieved; Izuku can't help but grin back because he knows the beta was genuinely worried about him.
All of them are such good friends.

The more time he spends with Katsuki, the more he realizes being around him feels so natural, like they never stopped seeing each other. It's like they have known each other their whole lives.
Sure, they fight and argue, but they also know how to make things better and apologize when they have to.
"Kacchan, let's spar!"
Izuku doesn't have to tell him twice; he can see the smirk on the King's face immediately before his red eyes spark with joy.
The barbarian jumps at him, but the omega has learned enough to avoid the first hit. None of them are careful when they spar, but they don't try to actively hurt the other either; the main goal of their training sessions is to make the opponent fall to the ground.
It's difficult, especially having someone as Katsuki as his sparring partner because he's great at all types of combat.
But Izuku has learned a couple of things, and he spends his nights taking notes on a journal he bought at the market almost since he got here. He takes notes on everything; the weather, the fauna and flora of the place, Dynamight's habits, his fire and, most importantly, all the things Katsuki and Izuku's friends have been teaching him so far.
Although when it comes to fighting, it's way easier to read it on paper than actually do it.
The barbarian tries to catch him, but Izuku manages to avoid him again; he has realized that even though Katsuki is stronger, Izuku is faster than him.
And he has to use that to his advantage.
Finally, Izuku sees an opening; he jumps at Katsuki and while he manages to throw him, the omega ends up falling with him.
"Does this count as me winning, Kacchan?" It should, right? Because the alpha is on his back, vulnerable, while Izuku is basically sitting on his chest. He's the only one that can move at the moment.
"Huh?" The barbarian blinks a couple of times before looking up at the omega and placing a gentle hand on his thigh. He doesn't seem to be fully aware of what he's doing because once his eyes follow the movement of his hand, he moves it away. "You have freckles on your thighs."
"I have freckles all over my body, Kacchan," Izuku replies, wondering if the King hit his head too hard when he fell.
Katsuki's face turns a deep shade of red, which makes the omega worry even more.
"Y-You win this time," he stammers, carefully grabbing Izuku by the waist, getting him off him and placing him carefully to the side.
As soon as Katsuki is free, he rises from the ground with a single, very rushed jump.
"Are you alright, Kacchan?"
Katsuki doesn't answer, he just keeps walking until he finds the buckets of water they leave outside the house and dumps one all over himself.
"Kacchan!"
"It's alright, nerd!" He says, clothes now soaking wet. "I was feeling really hot... that's it."
"Oh... okay?" The omega is still a bit confused. Although he can tell that clearly worked because Katsuki's face is not red anymore. "Perhaps you should go inside and change so you don't catch a cold?"
"You know what? You're absolutely right, Izuku."
The alpha goes back inside after that, leaving the green haired man a bit confused still. He shakes off some of the dirt from his clothes as he rises and thinks about taking a bath when he sees Jiro and Ashido rushing towards him.
"The trip to the city has been approved! We're leaving tomorrow, isn't that great?" Jiro informs him.
"I can't wait!" He blurts out, beaming, already thinking about the witch. He hopes she has a solution to his problem.
"Where's your blond gremlin?" Ashido chuckles, looking at him with curiosity.
"Inside... changing. But he'll probably be back in a minute."
"It's alright. He can take his time. The things I have to tell him are going to make him mad."
"Why?"
"He won't be able to come with us to the city; he has a couple of meetings to attend to."
She's right, Katsuki won't like it at all.

My teammates tell me I’m gonna to croak on the job.
They don’t mean soon. They’re not, y’know, assholes about it. They don’t mean I’mma get myself ended because I’m not good enough. They don’t even mean I’ll bite off more than I can chew. I can chew a lot, metaphorically speaking.
(And, like, sure I’ve snuffed it once or twice in the course of a mission - but it never *sticks*. And, sure, my team would probs suggest I add ‘so far’ to that sentence. But ‘hell never sticks … so far’ is grammatically weird, I think, so I reckon I’m morally in the right.)
What they mean is: I’ll never let myself leave the job, so of course I’ll lose myself to it.
Which. Y’know. Fair.
A lot of folks in the profession have this issue, of course. When you’re in the world-saving game, it can be tough to justify quitting and letting someone else take a turn.
I call it the Heroic Paradox. The ‘Heradox’, if you will.
Paradox part 1: an apocalypse demands a ‘hero’ or ‘heroes’. If it does not find one, a hero must be created. This is rough for the hero, ‘cos they’re a normie with a normal life and the process of going hero mode will take that life away from them.
(I’m actually not a huge fan of the term ‘hero’, but ‘designated end-of-days preventer’ is lengthy.)
Paradox part 2: if an apocalypse begins and the hero(es) already exists, then job’s a good’un, just crack on with business and de-apoc the lypse.
Paradox part 3: if the hero(es) are a few apocalypses deep and now pondering retirement on a nice little island/farm/wizard tower/public office, you hit that awkward moment where a hero is called for, but not yet present. Best case scenario: some poor schmuck gets their life ruined by ‘destiny’.
Worst case? The hero refuses the call or gets snuffed out early or *there just isn’t anyone appropriate* and that situation really puts the ‘scat’ in ‘eschatology’.
So … yeah, I don’t see myself retiring.
But if I’m honest - if I peer really intensely at the squirming pile of neuroses that lurk beneath the justifications - I was this way *before* the stakes got this high. I’ve always been a ‘crisis mode’ kinda jerk.
Lurching from mission to disaster to disastrous mission has always been where I feel most *myself*.
Now you (or my team) might say: that’s no way to live. Everyone needs downtime. Rest. Enrichment.
It’s been the downfall of many a hero that they hit crisis mode so hard, they don’t bother going to *therapy*.
My answer to this is simple: if you treat self-care and self-maintenance as being *really fricking urgent*, you can roll that work into your *existing* crisis pattern.
This is actually pretty sustainable. Because first: that stuff *is* urgent and you’re a bilge-organist if you don’t realise it. And second: the best kind of therapy is always the one you’ll *actually do*.
So yeah: I’ll pass away on the job. Because even the soft fuzzy nonsense I do … it’s all for the job.
And you know what? If it means I’ll exit this world knowing who I am? I’m okay with that.

Me and my GF had a whole convo about something similar, fanfics with problematic themes like SA, self-harm, depression, ect.
Personally, we think it's a problem when people romanticize these kind of things. Other than that... Go ape shit?
I'm 16, Black, a trans demiboy, and pansexual. I was kind of the same with the "age gap ship awakening." I had no clue what the LGBTQ+ community was until I found a Shining Armor x Spike comic. Yeah. It was... eeeugh. But, at the time, my brain went "oh fr? guy and a guy?" It led me down this whole rabbit hole (thanks weird gacha club videos) of things that led to me being me. Do I think the comic is hella weird now that I'm older? Of course. But would I have realized my sexuality when I did if I hadn't? Maybe not.
My family is very "don't teach kids about gay stuff" and "trans people bad." If I didn't find out before all of that started popping up more and more I could've been in a way worse place after finding out that part of myself. My pops literally said "gay people are devil workers trying to depopulate the Earth" after he found out I wasn't straight. If he had said that any sooner, I know I would've absorbed it like a sponge and probably have a lot of internalized homophobia.
Just because someone indulges in a certain type of fiction writing doesn't mean they condone it. I read so many fan fics about depression and self-harm because I myself went through similar stuff. I'm not sure if I did go through depression (I was never diagnosed but my ass literally unscrewed a blade from a pencil sharpener just to cut myself, so... I had issues lmfao). Proship is definitely weird, but it's not the same as writing a fictional work about an adult and a child relationship especially if the writer makes it clear that it's wrong and they don't endorse that stuff. It could be a coping mechanism or simply something to write to get better at writing serious stuff.
I kinda rambled, and I maybe feel like I missed the point because... I do that sometimes. But what I'm trying to say is, "Yeah, it's weird to go after people for stuff like that when they don't endorse it or when things aren't as problematic as it seems (like aging up a character that's almost an adult already just for some wholesome kissy art)"
Thank you for being a bastion of sanity amidst the growing "but proshippers! But incest! But RPF!" purity culture's nonsense.
I'm so tired of being afraid to admit that I've even read a fanfic/fancomic because that same person might have a DIFFERENT ACCOUNT where they indulge in a problematic ship. And therefore they are "bad" and by association, I could be labeled "bad" for having looked at something completely unrelated and tossed on a block list.
It's asinine. Yet I'm too afraid to even get off anon because I know I don't have the mental fortitude to survive a potential online witch hunt.
So thank you, I wish you all the strength to keep screaming the words I cannot.
honestly youre not the first person to send me an anon about this, i just tend to feel just as afraid of responding to them as much as you are afraid of coming off anon. i think because while ill post things in vague context, it becomes another thing when someone says it out loud, yknow? but i appreciate it, knowing im not just screaming into a void where no one likes what i have to say.
i think what i will say is im not the only one who THINKS like i do, but i am just dumb enough to be loud and annoying about it. its kind of a thing where i'd never say anything specific because like... some people are so vicious and will demand blood if they get a whiff if i mention anything vaguely. the fact i have to be afraid to say 'people dont mind' for their own safety is crazy, huh?
i think that thing youre saying about being worried by association from association was the same first time i had this thought. i was reading something so good so deep something that effected me so deeply from how well it was talking about the realistic effects of incestuous abuse, and then i went to see what else the author had written and i was like. oh. theres just regular incest in here too. and that was kind of a moment of hm.. perhaps i need to think more about what really matters here. the fact i can engage with what i want and just say 'oh i see what else you do, thats not for me so i will just not engage with that'
so it hurts worse when theres the idea of someone engaging with art they like that has nothing 'weird' going on, then suddenly getting hit with screaming that that artist has a side account theyre not advertising where they make weird art that they are keeping FULLY separate from the account in question. like i do not see how that helps anybody in that situation.
then theres the generalization of it. the idea that maybe all you did was draw like. 19 yr old versions of two 15 yr olds kissing, and suddenly that gets you put on a list of people who will draw literal children in sexual situations, gets you put in that same boat without question. that shit is so cruel to me, that these things all get painted with the same brush. equally as bad, equally as deserving of being ostracized. or the idea that you get put on that list for not caring about if strangers ship things on the internet, makes you just as bad as someone who makes it. i really just hate this entire culture.
idk im... old school i guess? back in my day youd watch a shitty cartoon that had over 20 characters in it so you could smash them together in whatever ship suited you. crack ships were the bread and butter of me and my friends, shit that made no sense but in your own head. the idea of being anti... shipping at all is so... thats very weird. shipping as a thing is very much what fandom was ever made for in the first place? like. im not kidding, learn your history if you dont know that (middle age women shipping kirk and spock)
back when i was a kid i watched this tv show called kim possible, and i was a kid who didnt know shit about themselves seeing a pretty villain lady for the first time who called the main character who was a girl princess. i didnt know what to make of that, i didnt know the age difference between them i was a dumbass child, they were both drawn the same way! then im like 12 years old on the internet, i see theres a ship of the teenage girl and this like 30 yr old villain woman. do you think my 12 year old self saw the problematic nature and thought deeply about the morals of said ship? no. i was like 'holy shit i wish i was the teenage girl dating shego. why do i like this? oh god im a lesbian'
again. i was a child. what are you gonna do, go back in time and arrest my 12 year old ass for looking at pg rated fanart of women kissing on the internet? we didnt HAVE real representation yet! there was no korrasami, no rupphire, no bubbline, no lumity! shipping was the only place you could see stuff that was gay! and it being GAY would get you in more trouble than it having an age gap!
the fact is people WOULD cancel me now for that, wouldnt you?! thats where we're at. that IS a problematic ship, id be put on a blocklist in todays internet for being a child who crushed on villains. i didnt make it, i didnt create for it, i just looked at it and that would get you in trouble now!!! thats crazy.
i know thats a random tangent to go off on, but like..... hhhhh i dont know man. sometimes it seems like people want the internet to pass by broadcasting standards and practices and thats!!! bad!!! let people experiment with their weird shit as they figure themselves out, its so fucking normal. youre not a bad person for looking at things on the internet, youre not a bad person for engaging with things, youre not a bad person for being horny online! especially if you make your own fucking space for it?? a space easily blacklistable, with trigger warnings and EVERYTHING... we didnt have those when i was a kid, so some things are better, but culture is just worse.
i dunno. i just think i would not have thrived in this environment as a teenager. im glad im old and know better, but i worry about the lessons kids are learning from this. to feel ashamed, to bottle shit up, its not good for you. be kind to yourself, be kind to others. we're all working through shit in our own ways.
