What are your thoughts on some of the more popular ships? Fanon and canon. For example superbat, bruce x harvey dent, tim x kon, dick x babs, dick x kory, jay x roy, steph x cass, damian x jon, pennywaynes,...

I’ll list them out

Superbat (Clark/Bruce): I find this ok, but personally, I like it when the trinity acts more like siblings, so it’s not my favorite. 5/10

BruHarvey: lovers to enemies? The angst? Amazing. 8/10

Dickbabs: idk. It feels kinda boring to me. Mainly because DC ruined both of their characters in order for them to be together. 4/10

DicKori: they’re soulmates. Idk what to tell you. And maybe you can tell how biased I am. Right now, they are the opitome of right person wrong time. 10/10

Jayroy: I don’t like this ship. It reduces Roy’s character down to a prop, the age gap feels kinda icky and I personally believe in Aro/Ace Jason Todd. 1/10

Superbat (Kon/Tim): the only version of superbat I truly ship. Reluctant friends, to besties, to flirty friendship, to a game of cat and mouse on if that taunt was real or if they were just fooling around? 10/10

DamiJon: I think their age gap never works in their favor. Either Damian’s too old or Jon’s too old, and it makes me feel wrong. And in more recent comics, they’ve been acting much more like siblings than friends who maybe possibly have chemistry with each other. But I do think if you wanted to go the romance route, it could be double unrequited love that was never expressed. Like a 10yr old Jon had a crush on a 13 yr old Damian. Jon left for almost a decade and comes back, looses feelings for Damian, but a 14yr old Damian has feelings for an 18 yr old Jon, but it never works out. 5/10. Just like their Dads

PENNYWAYNESSSS: 100000000/10. Like are you kidding me, this is the best ship ever and I love it so much.

Honorable mentions:

BruTalia: 10/10. My favorite Bruce ship.

Brulina: 8/10. I like it… but I feel like it wouldn’t work out because Selina would get overwhelmed by the amount of wealth Bruce has. Like she thinks it’s what she wants, but it’s too much for her

Birdflash (Dick/Wally): 8/10. I see the appeal, they’re best friends with so much chemistry, but I feel like they would never date bc they value their friendship more and they’re both super busy

JayKyle: it’s the only Jason ship I like, but only because I want it to be one sided, with Kyle failing to flirt with Jason and Jason is completely oblivious and actually just hates Kyle but Kyle thinks Jason’s playing hard to get. (Kyles flirting is just arguing with Jason, so that’s why Jason never gets the hint) 7/10 +300 bc of hillarity

StephTim: I don’t like this ship because Stephanie deserves so much better, and Tim seems like the type to mansplain every little thing, and it would drive Steph up a wall. I also don’t like the notion that they would be friends after they break up. 3/10 bc they had that piano scene

DamiRae: 2/10. Garchel is a better ship, and I feel like their personalities are too similar.

Flatline/Damian: I love them. I think they’re cute, but I don’t see it lasting long. 4/10

StephCass: 9/10. No more needs to be said. But I won’t ever officially write them as being together within a fic bc Steph’s character deserves to be her own, rather than a lover of a Batfam member, and Cass has her own things to deal with

What are your top 5 fics by kudos? Precious Things; Collar Me (Don’t Collar Me); Turn, Turn, Turn; Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground; Flaws [Collar Me co-written with the amazing @caramelmachete]

Do you respond to comments, why or why not? Yes. I try to respond as soon as I see them, but sometimes I’ll miss a notification, because of work/family obligations or I missed the email. PLEASE feel free to poke me about those! If you sent me ANY positive comment, even a keysmash, then I definitely want to thank you and acknowledge it.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending? On AO3? It’s probably Warning Sign. They would eventually have a happy ending, but... I didn’t finish them so they look pretty grim *cough*

Do you write crossovers? I have, but not on AO3. And they’re unpublished, just some collabs with friends (Batman and Naruto, Batman and Inception, and Batman and Ghost in the Shell)

Have you ever received hate on a fic? Not hate, just a comment over me cherrypicking details to fit the story I wanted to tell as opposed to the exact canon timeline. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Do you write smut? If so what kind? I have. lots of different kinds, but I haven’t posted those on AO3, sorry :)

Have you ever had a fic stolen? nope

Have you ever had a fic translated? nope

What’s your all time favorite ship? As if I could pick just one? ahahaha. I do have a very soft spot for Dick/Roy, or Birdflash if it’s YJ-verse. And I love DickKory and DickBabs, depending on when in the timeline it is. They’re both important in his life.

Whats a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will? Maybe Warning Signs, just because that was for whumptober, year before last. I’m reworking Flaws and still want to finish Collar Me.

What are your writing strengths? I’ve been told I’m good at getting imagery across, and showing things through the senses.

What are your writing weaknesses? Finishing things :D

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? I prefer just writing it in English and putting it inside < > Because I wouldn’t want to get someone else’s language wrong.

What was the first fandom you wrote for? On AO3, it’s only been the Bats. (off AO3, it was X-files)

What’s your favorite fic that you’ve written? Probably Collar Me. But for finished ones, I really liked Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground.

Pieces of my Batfam fics

These are little pieces of my Batfam WIPs that I actually like. If any of them jump out to you, I'd love to hear your thoughts! I'm trying to motivate myself to write more.

1. From my Forever Evil fix it - DickBabs

“Hey.” His voice and smile were barely there, but the sight still flooded Barbara's eyes with tears. He let her fingers trace over his cheek. “Hey yourself.”

'Where's T'mmy?”

“He's ok. He's asleep. Jason and Alfred fixed up his arm.”

He was drifting, and Barbara didn't want his eyes to close again so soon. She trailed a finger along his cheekbone where the black foundation had smeared under his mask.

“You look like a raccoon. A very good looking one, but a raccoon nonetheless.”

That got another small smile from him, but it seemed to be all he could do. His eyes slid closed.

2. From my baby DickBabs story - (heavily inspired by the characterizations of Robin and Batgirl in The Batman cartoon series)

He quickly palmed the tears away, looking at her sheepishly through damp lashes. Barbara knelt down. “What's up?”

“Nothing.”

“C'mon Dick, I know better. Something's bothering you, and it's not just your leg, nasty as it is. I'm not judging you for crying, by the way. I cried like a baby when I broke my collarbone last year, so spill.” It was a lie, but his expression opened slightly.

“It's just...” he sighed and scrubbed his eyes once more before replacing the mask. “Can't hide this from Batman.” he gestured to his leg.

“No... why would you want to?”

Dick took a shaky breath. “He's re-evaluating Robin.”

“So... you're getting a performance review? Why?”

“I got hurt. Last night. It's why I was off my game tonight. Missed a dose or two of pain meds.”

“Oh. How bad were you hurt? It's not like you've never gotten hurt on patrol before. We both have. I don't see what the big deal is.”

In retrospect, it made sense. He had been sweating and pale even before () had broken his leg.

“I got shot. It was a graze, but deep. Leslie said it hit my rib.”

“Zigged when you shoulda zagged?”

“Yeah.”

“And Bruce let you come out tonight anyway?”

“Not exactly.”

“Ah.” Barbara bit her lip, unsure what to say. Dick looked so miserable – tearful, soaking wet and shivering, one arm tucked around his wounded rib, swollen lower lip where one of the thugs had gotten a lucky hit in, leg swathed in their capes and his escrima sticks as a splint to twice its size, weighing him down. He definitely wouldn't be running or tumbling or flipping any time soon, and that was hard for someone who barely kept his feet on the ground as it was.

“When he finds out I went on patrol without him when I was supposed to be in bed, and got hurt worse, he'll ground me forever. I don't want to lose Robin, Babs. I can't. Without Robin, I'm... I'm nothing.” he whispered.

Another tear escaped under the domino mask and Barbara sat down next to him, putting an arm over his shoulders and pulling his shaking form close, sharing some body heat and wishing for at least one of their capes to keep off the chill. He was freezing and he must have been exhausted because he allowed her embrace, almost melting against her, without any wise cracks or complaints. It made Barbara's anxiety shoot up higher. Dick loved casual touches and hugs, but when he was really hurting, he tended to clam up and insist he was fine. The fact that he was practically in her lap without any protest worried her.

She slid her gauntlet from one hand and brought it to his forehead. Hot. There were beads of sweat running down his hairline and his lower lip was trembling. Barbara winced. A very recent gunshot wound, coupled with a nasty open fracture and then a dip in the filthy Gotham harbor were all contributing factors to what could easily develop into a dangerous fever.

She hugged him closer.

“Not nothing, Dick. You're special even without Robin. But let's worry about that later, ok? Right now, we're just taking a breather and making sure the bad guys are gone so we can get home.”

3. From my Dick and Tim story -

“Did you check in with Oracle?”

“No. I thought you did. You were too busy soaking up the sun, weren't you.”

Dick stretched his arms toward the sky and his spine popped luxuriously. “It just feels so good. And it'll only get better. They say Dibba is what summer feels like.”

“Yeah, well, I'm getting burnt. And they confiscated my sunscreen at the airport. Glad you're having such a good time.”

Dick reached into Tim's messenger bag and plucked his ball cap from under the flap, setting it decisively on Tim's head to give his face a modicum of shade. he shook his head sadly. “You poor little vampire. You're actually worse than Bruce and that's saying something.”

From the same story as above - for context, Dick is temporarily blind, and they've been locked in a storage room in their civilian identities.

"I think i found a way out. There's boxes stacked to the ceiling, but there's a vent..."

Dick could hear Tim rustling around and grunting as he moved and un-stacked the boxes. "I don't think they realized this was here. And..." more grunting followed by a triumphant "yes! I can fit into the vent."

"Can I fit?" Dick asked.

"No. I'll come around and unlock the door."

"Are you sure? You know I can contort -"

"No!" Tim cut him off. "Absolutely not. I hate it when you do that." Dick could hear the shudder in Tim's voice and he grinned up in his direction as he deliberately shifted his shoulders backwards and up into an impossible angle around his head.

"What, this?"

"Quit it! That's gross! I will leave your freaky, boneless ass in this room if you do that again."

4. From my Dick and Damian story -

Damian's breath caught for a moment when an arrow from one of the higher rooftops sang toward Grayson as he landed a flip, but the acrobat spun and caught the arrow before it struck him, waving it in a cocky salute at the archer who had loosed it.

Damian grinned for the first time in half a year.

(I'm kind of obsessed with the idea of the batkids ((especially Richard 'I-grew-up-with-Roy-Harper-on-my-team' Grayson)) being able to catch arrows. I think they've done it in the comics once or twice).

From the same story as above -

“Are you mad at me, lil'D?” Dick asked quietly.

In answer, Damian abruptly threw his arms around his brother, hugging him tightly. Dick returned the hug, wrapping arms around Damian's shoulders.

“I thought you were angry with me.” Damian said into his brother's shoulder. “Because I didn't hear from you. Father wouldn't say anything of import during his calls. I could not tell if you were getting better or not.”

Oh! I had no idea they were your nOTP! They’re my non-negotiableTP, as in, I will probably not read/watch if they aren’t together in some way (even if just flirting). I did watch BTAS+Sub0 when very young, must have been tipping point for me. Won’t bug you about it now that I know :)

They’re not my ‘non-negotiable’ notp (perfect adjective), in that as long as their romance is not the main focus I can read it with no problem, but if I had the choice between nearly identical fics and in one Dick and Barbara are good friends, can work together and hang out, and maybe a teasing reference to how teenage Dick had this precocious crush that has cooled into platonic or familial love - and the other fic they are romantically linked, actually flirting and dating, I’m picking the first fic and being very grateful for its existence. The second that they start seriously flirting, I start pulling away.

Part of it is how little media with Babs!Batgirl I have exposure to, and how her age fluctuated from much older than Dick to what she is now which is coded as younger than him. Neither choice appeals. And that older Babs it really does look like from the outside at least like Gravity Falls with Dipper Pines’ crush on Wendy. I can like the idea of the Robins having crushes on Batgirl, and Barbara admitting that Dick grew up to be an attractive young man, but Anakin/Padmé is I think the only OTP of mine with ‘younger boy entering puberty has crush on older girl and when he grows up she honestly returns his feelings’. Because usually that has me screaming for the hills.

I just don’t see their personalities meshing for me, or having them together as a couple give anything extra. Oracle Babs, at least, reads too close to Bruce’s personality type and flaws, which severely limits my suspension of disbelief of DickBabs as a long-term romantic couple, plus this uncomfortable gut feeling that Dick -or at least the authors through Dick- would be always comparing Babs to how she was pre-injury. Sure, bubbly personality!Dick bringing some light into Babs’ life as a plot thread, but I still can’t see why she would want him as a long-term romantic life parent. Sadly, fandom has yet to tell me what the good alternative ship for Babs is (aside from Dinah), but I’d prefer someone who met Babs as adults. The baggage of DickBabs’ history together is what makes me not ship them.

My first ‘ship for Robin was Starfire, and I loved that it stressed Dick as idk, the Batman-lite and learning how to be comfortable in opening up and expressing his emotions and that he was the steady stabilizing safety for Kori and that plot and setting-wise it meant he was strongly connected to the Titans and wider DC superhero universe and community. When he’s paired with Babs, that always signaled to me that his character was going to stay in Gotham and Bludhaven if lucky, narrowed him. Which, it is odd because not like Babs as Oracle doesn’t also have wider ties via BoP.

It’s been a long time since I watched any B:TAS and that series wasn’t a big part of my childhood - I actually haven’t watched many episodes. Batman media at that time for me was the movies, especially the second two, and I watched way more of the Superman Animated series and then Justice League cartoons and Teen Titans, (and much later Young Justice). So I have almost no exposure, nostalgia, or attachment to Barbara - as Batgirl or not. It does mean that I can take the Arkham games universe with its Tim/Babs without automatically disliking it, unlike I think the majority of fans. (It helps that Tim in those games really isn’t at all like comic canon Tim or look like him, even more so than B:TAS’s “Timmy Todd”. There’s a good case to be made that Arkham Tim Drake is at least a few years older than Arkham’verse Jason, for one thing).

I love the idea of it being presented in the original language, but unless it’s something I or someone I know well enough to ask for help with speaks it fluently, I won’t include it myself (and one tiny nitpicky preference of myself is that I don’t want to have to stop reading a fic to go to google translate or scroll to the end of the fic to find the translation; I know you can sometimes figure it out through context, but if the translation isn’t presented immediately, it does pull me out of the story slightly, because I NEED TO KNOW WHAT IT SAYS lol)

What was the first fandom you wrote for? On AO3, it’s only been the Bats. (off AO3, it was officially X-files and unofficially Bram Stoker’s Dracula, back when I was like 10)
