Serendipity should be required viewing material before anyone tries to analyze Homestuck; not only is John Cusack a universal constant, but the themes and vibes of Serendipity are so fundamentally woven into Homestuck's DNA that several of Serendipity's thesises and conversations could be lifted directly from one to the other.

In particular, the way Serendipity utilizes coincidence and circumstantially simultaneous events in order to suggest - nay, decree - that the two leads belong together, is highly reminiscent of the way Hussie uses foreshadowing, and not just for romantic couples. It's also a major window into the ultimate stance Homestuck takes with regard to romance, fate, and destiny, and also more specifically, a really good look at Karkat's own personal philosophies of romance. There's a running theme in his movies of meeting someone that perfectly matches your freak, someone you don't ever need to compromise yourself around, who brings out the best in you.

Also, some of yall need to watch a shitty romcom every once in a while and develop some emotions

I can imagine photos Aphelios and Alune take together to send Yone, either just group selfies (usually one 'serious' or nicely taken one, followed shortly by a much more unflattering one) or things they see when they're out together like events, meals, or clothes etc. (because Aphelios only goes outside when Alune drags him out) and these photos played a part in being kind of accountability-buddies while they were going through their individual rough times...

Once leaning Yone owns a cat, if not already shared by him, the twins would beg to see pictures of Luna frequently. this is also done in pm's and there might have been a competition at one point to collect more images of Luna than the other, and ranking the rarity of the images mostly based on the kitty-action caught.

Aphelios would also share screenshots of his progress work to Yone, and any mishaps along the way like his software crashing at the worst possible time, or new instruments.

After joining heartsteel and getting settled in, Aphelios also makes memes of the other members (as well as himself) such as this, though these are moreso shared in their group chat and threatened to be posted on socials than sent just between private messages.

In a gently teasing way, and to make sure he's keeping up with the latest viral jokes, I feel like Aphelios will often send Yone the freshest of memes just to gauge his reaction, and to test him.

(Basically a reference post for myself as much as an excuse to talk about them :) )

5. Qi Xi (栖息), the Beast Peak / Peak Lord Ye Qingzhu (叶 清竹)

Qi Xi specializes in beast rearing and mounts; they're one of Cang Qiong's money-making peaks (along with being very expensive to run, lmao), which is why they're ranked so highly. Its name can mean "dwelling" or "bird's perch" :)

Ye Qingzhu's name comes from "Ye" for leaf and means "pure bamboo"! (The very obvious nature theme is actually unintentional; my naming reference site lied to me and I'm too attached to change her name at this point, lmaoo.) She's no-nonsense and very practical, but she can take a joke!

Yqz is middle-aged and looks it, is quite burly, and has missing fingers and scars under her right eye/over her left eyebrow from handling accidents; the former are from her disciple days. She wears vambraces and keeps her hair in a simple bun accessorized only with a hairstick

9. Zui Xian (最先), the Beverages Peak / Peak Lord Peng Qingsen (彭 清森)

This is a canon peak, but we know nothing about it, so my city now! Zui Xian is canonically where the Peak Lords meet up to have dinner (which: cute!!!), so I dubbed them a peak that produces spiritual wines and spiritual teas to sell to both other cultivators and to mortals. They probably dabble in broader agriculture as well, making them another one of Cang Qiong's money-makers!

To match Zui Xian's overall good vibes, Peng Qingsen is an amiable old uncle type, easygoing and well-muscled from field labor; he often hands out friendly shoulder pats which are varyingly appreciated by his fellow Lords, lmao. He's a good cook and fond of hosting, and his name means "clear forest," just to be on theme

10. Yuan Zhi (远志), the Arrays Peak / Peak Lord Song Qingyu (宋 清雨)

Yuan Zhi means "lofty ideal," which reflects the importance of the Peak's work-- they handle Cang Qiong's protective spells and wards! Their members are often called upon by non-cultivators to ghost-proof homes and to fortify or bless land

Song Qingyu's name means "clear rain." Sqy is fat, probably in her mid-30s, and she wins the prize for being the most-- indeed, the only-- bubbly personality of all the Peak Lords. In fact, she's so overly friendly that she’s seen as kind of annoying, but she's also so competent that everyone has to ignore it <3 Thankfully, she hasn't quite caught on that not everyone's into her morning-person vibes :')

Sqy has a personal grudge against Huan Hua bc one of their disciples snubbed her skills + Cang Qiong as a whole when she was head disciple and she never forgave them. Also, she'd never admit this out loud, but she hates having to sit next to Hong Qingfeng, since he's kind of yell-y and she doesn't really appreciate that energy

11. Zhi Man (枝蔓), the Artifacts Peak / Peak Lord Cai Qingxuan (蔡 清萱)

Zhi Man handles the creation and identification of artifacts and talismans/seals! It's very much a Peak full of mad scientists; Zhi Man's name literally means "branches and shoots," but it has the figurative meaning of describing something overcomplicated, which perfectly suits my vague imaginings of how seals work

Cai Qingxuan got her last name from the Cai Lun who invented papermaking, and her first name means "pure daylily." She's on the younger side and is kind of the prissy straight-A student type, and she keeps to herself for the most part. (She is continually besieged by sqy's well-meaning overtures of friendship; rip them both.) She has a slight tendency to act without thinking out of a mild case of arrogance, which doesn't pair well with her inability to handle flusterment. (She'd have gotten along great with Shen Jiu if he wasn't even bitchier than she is)

12. Ku Xing (苦行), the Ascetic Peak / Peak Lord Hong Qingfeng (朱 清风)

Another canon Peak, but my Peak Lord! Hong Qingfeng's name means "pure wind," but the pinyin is a holdover from when I'd originally spelled his name with a 锋 for "spear point" in honor of his canonical "fiery temper" before I decided that didn't fit the overall Qing generation's naming scheme, lmaoo

Hqf is the oldest Peak Lord, and I think he has an interest in penjing (the Chinese tree art which bonsai originated from!)

Extra notes:

My Peak order goes: Qiong Ding, Qing Jing, Wan Jian, An Ding, Qi Xi, Xian Shu, Bai Zhan, Qian Cao, Zui Xian, Yuan Zhi, Zhi Man, and Ku Xing

I envision sect meetings taking place over a long oval table with the first and twelfth peaks at the short ends and even-numbered and odd-numbered peaks placed on opposite sides. This makes sqh and sqq neighbors, and qqq and mqf are also neighbors!

I put Qian Cao as the eighth Peak because if I have to grit my teeth and accept the canon that mqf is lqg's shidi and not the other way around, I am not putting him more than one single peak below Bai Zhan, ALRIGHT

No, I still don't know what Xian Shu does. "Lesbians" is the official Peak specialty in my notes. (Realistically, I think it's primarily a safe haven for young women escaping circumstances-- it's likely split between poor younger girls and rich noblewomen trying to leave their households, and plenty are probably taking advantage of cultivation's curtailing effect on reproduction. Xian Shu, home of lesbians and spinsters!)

The anon and I sorted it out over DMs so all is good now!

I'm not a huge Tetocest fan or anything, I just like it when someone draws really nice drawings of them and they happen to be Teto x Teto, so the chance of me drawing Teto x Teto is kinda low but not zero. Like I wrote in my chart, I mostly treat them as a cute pair of sisters, and that chart was a Miku x Teto chart because Negidrill is my OTP.

If I ever make Tetocest art, it's not with the assumption that they're sisters or related or seeing each other in a familial way. I'm grossed out by incest of any kind, and I'm also grossed out by pseudo-incest. Tetocest (selfcest) is literally Teto x herself/a different version of herself, not a relative or anything, so I wanted to make that clear.

I'll be tagging all my stuff that isn't quick doodles/text, so if you're anti-Tetocest or Teto x Teto or something, you can blacklist that tag or avoid me altogether because I don't hate it. The chance I'll draw actual Teto x Teto that isn't cute platonic love is like 5% though, 'cuz I like Miku x Teto more than anything and that's my main priority.

If anyone has beef with anything I like, I absolutely encourage you to unfollow me or avoid me because this is where I post art of MY interests and I don't want to be treated like a criminal in my own space.

My Miku x Teto is NOT proship (I always ship them around the same age) and I don't support proship or anything weird/immoral. I'm fine with criticism if I do something wrong but please don't be aggressive towards me because Mktt is extremely precious to me and I don't want to be chased away from my own space. You won't believe my ability to self-isolate lol but I'm not afraid of being alone, even if my love for Mktt will never die (especially not 'cuz of anyone).

For now I'll continue to draw/write Mktt/Voca/UTAUloid art at my own leisure with my own headcanons and interests, and I'm not doing it for attention. I'm doing it out of love for the characters.

🎖️ — Proudest non-Ambition accomplishment?

The first thing that jumps to mind is the Flower from Hell - they're very fascinated by devils, just as the Fingerkings of old were, and thus have been working towards uniting the Little Kings and the Wandering Roses once more; being accepted as one of Hell's own is a very important/exciting achievement for Amets, and having roses blooming from their skin is exactly up their alley on the metamorphosis front.

(You'd think having turned a version of themselves into a city would be higher up, but the enormity of that is overshadowed by the complicated feelings they have about their shadow-self and the whole situation.)

👑 — Opinions on the Queen? What about other royalty?

They don't particularly care about the Queen, but they are quite invested in her children - they cultivate a positive relationship with the Captivating Princess (with whose hedonistic loneliness they sympathize) and the Recalcitrant Sculptress (whose eccentric taste they admire), and they serve as a personal tutor for the Generous Princess, gathering scraps of humanity and virtue for the young lady to learn and grow from.

🃏 — What would be/will be their name and domain as a Master?

Mr Masks, who deals in costumes, uniforms, shapes and identities. Probably eats up a lot of Mr Veils' textile trade, start producing subtly transformative garbs - a depersonalized mode of the Shapeling Arts.

They already have a strong focus on offering transformation as the Pontifex of Metamorphoses, so it's really just a question of distilling that into buyable Wares.

🔥 — Least favourite Master of the Bazaar?

Mr Stones, or Mr Mirrors, maybe? Frankly, all of the Masters blend together to them (the accumulation of wealth is such a prosaic goal), but they had a few bad encounters with those two.

For the record, Mr Veils is their favourite, because they also appreciate violence and beautiful clothing, even though Mr Spices is the one they're ostensibly closest to.

🐍 — Snakes or cats?

Snakes, obviously.

In recent news, Amets would be very excited for what the Seventh Coil is offering - tigers are not at the center of the Moulting Eidolon's attention, but they too are working on freeing their kind of old enmities, and closing the distance between the Is and Is-Not is something they've dreamt of for a long time. (They don't particularly care about the hypocrisy of the stars, but the end goal is very favourable to them.)

🪞 — Do they enjoy being in Parabola? Why or why not?

They do! Once, the thing that would become them chose to make its home here, and they do not regret the choice.

Still, they get bored so very easily, and one's home always seems the least interesting place in the world while you're there - and that is why they endeavour to belong everywhere, become anything, so that all of existence - from the depths of Hell to the lights of the Surface - can be a step away from their doorstep.

🎩 — What would an Exceptional Story featuring this character be about?

Most likely a story about the ES Perspective NPC Companion, having sought out a pact with them & now hesitating at the final juncture, and the first half focuses on learning about their life up to this point (and how a normal bohemian type goes about seeking out a spirit of change), and the second half happening in Amets' own demesne in Parabola, letting the Eidolon explain their reasons for doing this (and offering dramatic twists by being candid about their client's goals and desires).

The culmination is obviously you, the helpful FL PC, helping the companion choose whether to go through with it or not... but Amets would also offer to change you while you're here, trading a little of your life for a little of this place, leaving you in your bed with a unique quality and/or equipment (not sure what the change itself should be).

The fun in any story for me isn't necessarily just "Oh what is the main relationship here, what are they going through", no matter if romantic, sexual or platonic or whatever combination of it. A lot of the fun is relationship web that can spring up around it. How are their friends and acquaintances affected? How do they react, with who do they side, what other issues are using this event as a proxy? I just love it.
