what's your favorite ship and why? Not limited to any particular fandom

hi! thank you for the ask :)

at any given point in time I usually have a few different favourite ships at once, so I'll give you the most relevant ones from right now:

Beta/Milu: because they're baby and cute and deserve happiness, and Milu seems like the best match for Beta. and I really want Beta to be happy and enjoy life after everything she's been through. plus Beta could definitely help Milu with some science related to helping the Utaru, I'm sure.

Ikrie/Yarra: because I thought about it for two seconds once, and mentioned it to @tjerra14 and was met with nothing but support, so now there's two story ideas floating around.

with this one I'll explain more thoroughly (bc I talked about Beta/Milu a little more recently). thing is.. there's no way in hell Ikrie would have stayed in The Cut considering even Aratak made the journey. so I hc her being at the final battle in HZD and then moving West with Talanah and Milu, and possibly making her way across the mountain bc she's Ikrie and mountains are where she grew up, so the invisible plot barrier would not keep her out of Tenakth territory if she thought Aloy might have come through.

tjerra and I hc her then making her journey towards Scalding Spear and stumbling upon Meat in the clasps of a certain group of Rebel Bandits and saving Meat, but not getting away unscathed, and Yarra then being alerted to her presence. ANYWAY all that to give the setup. (the other story idea involved a lot more birds and puns)

the reason I think they would be well matched is that Yarra is just as dedicated to her people's ways as Mailen was, which is sth Ikrie could certainly understand, but we see later on that she is also willing to change and admit when her ways may cause more harm than good, so: matched in ferocity, bonding over Yarra's pet companion and just overall a fun dynamic imho. I JUST THINK THEY'RE NEAT

Nanno/Yuri: would be my third fave atm, mostly bc the whole enemies to lovers dynamic can be fun, especially where the supernatural is involved. and I love a good you kill me I kill you back dynamic every now and then. so there's that

what are your headcanons about Juliana and Florian?

Both

-Juliana (Jules for short) and Florian (Flori, Flor, etc) are twins! Juliana is the older one. This is inspired by the fact that... they look so similar in their official art! All the recent protags all do but these two take the cake. It's so funny to me. -they look so similar in fact, that they could be body doubles! but that's totally wrong and unethical they'd never... right? -I like the HC that they're both from Galar (their mom having Skwovet and using a British term early-game, the Galarian pokemon stickers in their room, etc). They're both Paldeans, but were raised there before moving back to their hometown with mom.

-Fun thing about Scarlet/Violet is that they're such huge games that it's totally justifiable to have dual protags doing different things. Because of this, I decided to have Juliana handle the 'battle-heavy' routes like Victory Road while Florian, who is more research-focused (and has main character syndrome) features more in The Hidden Treasure arc. -I can't decide on who really does Starfall Street yet, but I'd like for Path of Legends to be the both of them helping Arven since it's the most plot-heavy and has to do with endgame. -Don't ask how but both Koraidon and Miraidon exist at the same time and the twins are their trainers. -In my recent art of them, you'll notice Juliana and Florian's eyes get all blue/crystal-like! this is an effect of their time in Area Zero/being exposed to that much Terastal energy. just them though, no one else...

Florian

-additionally, Flo's hair turns from a purply-brown to pink post-game because he's named "Haruto" in Jp, meaning spring. this carries over across all languages! I wanted to evoke a sense of a blossom coming to life over the course of his journey.

-hates battling because his sister will always be better at it than him, so he vastly prefers pokemon catching instead. (Galar's League-focus/prominence made him sickkkk. he was glad to move) -helped Jacq complete the Paldean, Kitakami and BB pokedex because of that. they're tight, the both of them. -his smile never reaches his eyes, early-game. -he is not naturally kind, nor does he see himself as the 'hero' of the story (that was always Juliana, not him), but he fakes being a main character to make people think he's just as good (this is also a byproduct of Galar's culture tbh) -that's why he seems like the more extroverted of the two, but really, he's just as quiet as her behind doors. -tbh even the fact that he has one beauty mark under his eye instead of two like his twin sis bothers him... blud thinks he'll never be enough! -Koraidon's trainer

-after meeting Kieran, Florian tried to be kind from a genuine want instead of to impress people. he wanted to be the 'hero of the story' that Kieran saw him as... and not because he needed to be out of his sister's shadow. Kieran made him want to try. -like the only way I see him winning during BB League wasn't because he was the main character who always wins, but because winning was the only way he could be friends with Kieran again. -his arc will conclude when he learns to be kind and do things out of selflessness :) which is why he takes a Tera Blast during the Indigo Disk's climax, the ultimate act of selflessness. help. sorry man it was for character development...

Juliana

-The actual main hero of the story. Really insanely strong in battles. like just straight up a beast -Juliana's names mean "youth", so she stays the same, forever a young battle prodigy Florian tries to match (but can't...). Also, youth to me can mean the future, which is why she's the Miraidon trainer! -Another reason why she's Miraidon trainer is because she can't express herself how she wants... she can't emote easily and speaks monotonously, like a robot. -Her arc would conclude when she learns that the people worth keeping in life are the ones that get her even when she doesn't feel "normal" :]]] true treasures. -big eater -read once that having beauty marks under your eyes means you'll have "trouble in love" and tried to scrub hers off... really envies Florian for having just one and thinks Flo's some kind of romance genius. goes to him for love advice one day and it freaks him out (he's having just a complicated time as any teen!!!)

-Heavily inspired by Pokemon Special's take on her. like look at her she's so cool.

kinda afraid to step in this discourse, most of all because i didn’t even finish the show yet (but i just finished s2!!!) but i’ve seen a lot of this fandom behavior and fandoms’ behavior in general.

and like i see a lot of bucktommys complaining about the buddie fandom (including in the buddie tag) but i never actually see the buddie fandom doing anything that terrible, like what i saw the most was them stating they don’t like tommy and even the actor that plays him, but they stayed in their lane and didn’t harass anyone?? maybe i’m in a privileged part of the fandom.

also, saw even people who claim to be from the buddie fandom talking about how this behavior is ruining the experience for them?? and i’m like what behavior?? and this is literally how fandoms work!!! there’s always fights!!!

all i’m saying is if it’s bothering you so much, just block these people (i know i did) and if it’s something truly serious, report them!!!

however, if it’s taking the joy out of the experience for you, maybe you’re just not that into it anymore.

You know what? I might love bucktommy, but I am going to give myself a second to mourn buddie. It was a big chuck of my fandom experience, it's what got me into this show in the first place, and they've brought me so much joy over the years. So here's to buddie <3

one of the most sad things about being a multishipper in the tma fandom is that so many writers will just cut martin out of the story altogether when they pair jon up with someone else (tim, gerry, elias, etc). i think it's because a lot of tma writers (me included) simply can't see martin as anything other than desperately in love with jon and it's so much easier to just write him out of the narrative entirely than to construct a way around the metaphorical wrench in the gears that it throws to have martin involved when you're writing for a pairing that isn't jonmartin.

and i understand that especially since most of us are amateurs but fuck if that isn't so achingly sad on a meta level. martin, almost a victim and avatar of the lonely, shunted to the side in almost everything, never felt valued or loved, gets written out of the story for the sake of convenience

rodney and jennifer 😂 although i think if jennifer's character was written to be an actual character instead of The Hot Trophy For Rodney i probably would've liked the ship way more, but as it is they don't even seem to like each other???? also unless it's in the context of ot4 i can't do john/teyla idk why i don't know what it is (especially since john is such a slut and so easy to ship with anyone????) but it just feels very Wrong to me idk

all that being said tho all it takes is the right headcanon or fic/idea to get me obsessed with a ship so who knows maybe one day i'll ship mckeller and john/teyla!

Why do you think people treat shipping which is transformative/subjective and usually reflective of a person's experience with a work as something curatorial/objective and pick fights instead of embracing multishipping?

Arguing about things that don't really matter has always been foundational to the internet.

More specifically, while some people do indeed enjoy multishipping others hold strong enough opinions about their preferred pairings that they view alternatives as challenges to their own interpretations. The "[character] has two hands" meme and insistence that love triangles be peaceably resolved with throuples ignore that this conflict is a part of shipping for some fans, as well as the reality that they may simply not like the character(s) and/or dynamics involved in the rival ship(s). Whether this is a good or bad thing is a matter of preference, but it happens all the time regardless.

I don't exclude myself from that either, as there are ships involving characters in my various OTPs that I just can't get invested in, and in some cases that I find perplexing in their popularity. I also admit that reading about online shipping wars can often be quite entertaining as a disinterested third party...although personally I enjoyed them more before the whole anti movement took off and the core of those arguments shifted toward which ships are more morally correct. I just find that tedious, not to mention almost farcical in the way that such wank exploits actually important topics for meaningless fandom drama.

i may be obsessed with maxlie but i have a soft spot for maxwil of course. especially dont starve adventure mode and cyclum puzzle era maxwil cause i feel like at this point both max and wilson's priorities have kinda shifted away from each other? wilson also seemed to really like charlie in a new reign before the whole getting shocked to death part lol. maxwell has two hands after all. i think all 3 of them should kiss. i like them all i tuck all 3 of my babygirls into bed every night
