I’ve been thinking iconisverse thoughts. Ms. Asp and the Squip are one and the same: created and molded and built for a purpose, to make the youth normal. They are not the system, they are perpetuators of it, and they genuinely don’t understand why their teens aren’t obeying. As their control slips, they decide their teens are beyond saving (Ms. Asp thinking the girls are just incapable of being helped and have powers to torture her, Squip deciding that just telling people what to do won’t work and he needs to make everyone get a squip) and they lose their carefully crafted persona of laid-back perfection. And then, in their final hour when everything has been ruined for them, they’re killed.

But at their cores, all they wanted to do was to fulfill the mission they were promised. Grant happiness and joy and stability. All they wanted was to help, but they were programmed to believe that help meant stripping away all that is good and unique.

It’s just their luck that after twenty-two years and a hundred thousand lifetimes with half of them missing spent apart, Susannah and Sheila get rained out on date night.

Neither thought to bring an umbrella; clear skies were promised the entire day, which is why they had the hubris to book a terrace spot – shit, Sheila had even brought roses for the occasion, like a properly gallant butch.

And now they were running through the rain-soaked streets of Greenwich village, the bouquet haphazardly stuffed into Susannah’s jacket, squealing and laughing like they were sixteen again and ducking under the stairwells to evade Asp’s eagle-eye, Buzz’s furtive hands, and Judith’s terrible sneers.

“Hey, partner! Think fast!” Sheila calls, and suddenly, a heavy mass of leather smacks Susannah right in the face. The prized leather jacket muffles her grunt, but she still manages to inhale deeply before setting it to rights as a makeshift umbrella.

“What about you?” Susannah demands, breathless and giggling – for a prison escapee, she’s short and stocky as ever, and as such, running’s never been her strong suit.

“I’m a big guy,” Sheila proudly proclaims, “I can take it.”

And with a swiftness and suave maneuvering that would surely be the envy of Zorro, Sheila grabs Susannah’s hand, sending sparks up her arm that put the lightning strikes around them to shame, and yanks her under the canopy of the first deli they find.

Susannah lands somewhat gracefully in the doorway, caught in a pair of wiry arms strengthened by years of proper nutrition and toning muscle.

“So much for a picnic under the stars, huh?” She huffs.

Sheila raises her eyebrows, thick eyeliner running down her cheeks in clumps. Susannah wants to reach up and trace every path over the age lines written into those strong features, but she settles for offering the jacket back.

“I guess this is why they call it a rain check,” Sheila shrugs, taking back her prized possession and sliding it back on. Susannah rolls her eyes.

“God, you’ve gotten cornier than I ever was.”

“Well, that’s ’cause I missed you so much, chum,” Sheila says, tapping her nose playfully. “Bad sense of humour was my best bet to keeping a part of you with me.”

Something in Susannah melts at this. Something else possesses her to playfully shove Sheila, moving that strong body with surprising strength. Sheila shoves her in kind, then audaciously reaches to grab a handful of her hip.

Out in the open like this, on a street where anyone could see – things definitely have changed, Susannah decides, since they last saw each other. But then again, Sheila’s not dumb; this is Greenwich village after all, and besides which everyone’s running around to not be caught dead in this downpour. Still a catch, still an asterisk, still so much work to do; it makes her sigh.

But it also makes her bolder.

“Y’know,” she says, pulling the battered-but-still-blooming roses from under her jacket, “These should really go in some kind of vase. I have one back at my place…” Her eyes rise from the bouquet and the petals that have fallen loose to coyly meet Sheila’s.

“Gift from a secret admirer?” Sheila asks, the husk of her voice making the subsequent thunder claps dull by comparison.

“None of them were you, baby.”

Sheila cups her face. “S’pose getting you home safe would be the gentlemanly thing to do, weather being what it is. And you haven’t invited me back to your place yet.”

“Consider yourself invited.”

A shadow passes over Sheila's eyes, and she is seventeen and hungry once more, thirty-nine and starved. "Anyone ever tell you how beautiful you are, firebug?"

Sheila makes sure to tell her that often – first at the record store, then at the coffee that followed, the lunch that elapsed, the tearful plea to not leave the city turned into the night at Sheila's apartment, when they danced under dim lights and she got a good look at Susannah in custom clothes – and when she got her out of them, of course. She told her she was beautiful between laughter and tears, mid-gasp and mid-kiss, when she was wide awake and when she was fast asleep.

She'll tell her again now, over and over, with a storm going on around them, and a storm sweeping the nation, though the latter's nothing new, both of them have enough blood on their knuckles and battle scars on their body to attest.

She'll tell her this all the way back to Susannah's place, military-neat, practical and utilitarian, so entirely unlike the storm-aftermath that's at Sheila's.

And Susannah will grin, and give her the same answer every time: "Nobody sings it like you can."

The storms continue to plague New York for days to come, but this will suit the both of them just fine.

They don’t leave Susannah’s apartment for over forty-eight hours.

woohoo! I actually am posting this! This is all the stuff that's actually kinda good bc most of my sketch book is a mess. I mean like scibles everywhere and multiple versions of drawings that look like a 7 year old drew and pages missing half of themselves 🤓

Ok so first up is Luna! The first one is without a filter and the other one is with one. We're not gonna talk about the glasses or neck or the amount of crap I had to whiteout lol

Here's some fanart I made in school. Ik it looks a little goofy but I think it's beautiful 🙃. Top right we have portraits of some important characters in this one novel called Tangerine we had to read last school year. The curly hair one is this guy named Joey, the stick figure w/ glasses is the main character Paul and the one who thinks hes the rizzler is Paul's older brother Erik. That book is trash btw so don't read it.

Beside that is a sketch of Viola/Cesario from Twelfth Night. I spent more time on the drawing than the actual graded writing part lol. On the bottom is the Duke Orsino (also from Twelfth Night.)

     At the feel of her hand, Dante turned his so that he could rub the pad of his thumb over her soft skin. "Well, you're biased." It was only a murmur that was quickly extinguished when Lihn's lips met his own. He took advantage of the moment and gently pressed the tips of his fingers from his free hand to the underside of her chin to hold her in place and allow the kiss to linger a moment or two. The man was a generous tipper, usually in the ballpark of 30-40%, which even if he wasn't on the wealthier side he'd still find a way to be as generous as he could. Any wait or service staff worked hard, and beyond that, dealt with a lot of bullshit. As a best selling author he had more than enough to spare. "Aw, c'mon, don't you know I'm a romantic at heart? I haven't really properly treated you in a while and my girl deserves it." With the few publicity engagements Dante had been traveling and not as available as he would prefer. Thankfully, Lihn was busy and worked hard so he doubted he was missed too much. Her independence was one of his favorite qualities she possessed. "I'm a bit more spontaneous than to have something elaborate planned, but I have been thinking about us quite a bit." If she were ready and felt the same then Dante wanted to take the next step with Lihn. To move from dating to an exclusive and official relationship. It was time. He was solid and ready, sure of the way he felt about her. "You'll never forget I took you here." A small chuckle and Dante nodded at the waiter that filled up their water glasses. "I like that." There was focus and attention on doing the business she owned right rather than spreading herself too thin. "Tell me about the roles you've been getting. That sounds real exciting for you." The woman was creative so he wasn't surprised by what was coming her way. "And I enjoy you talking about yourself." As a writer he was in his head so much and that made the contrast between them a good match. "Things are good. Book is still selling well and my publisher likes the plot and direction of my new novel. She's already asking me how fast I can get a draft to her."

"No, you're right," Linh nodded, feeling like she'd been a little too hard on Dante. She reached across the table to rub his hand. "At least I know the food isn't shit here. And the service is spectacular...thank you," she leaned forward to press a gentle kiss against his lips. She teased him about paying, but she was serious. She was curious as to how much he would tip her employees more than anything else. A lousy tipper was her biggest red flag. "Oh, you do? Look at you, mister," her interest was piqued, "Is there something special going on tonight?" She had a feeling he'd try and make things official -- whatever that meant. "Not yet...maybe a glass of water before I forget you took me here." she waved them over to make the request. "At the moment, no. I think I'm satisfied with the two I have. I might invest in other restaurants...I'm also enjoying the little roles I've been getting. I didn't think I'd like acting as much as I do," Linh flashed him a shy smile. "You know I love talking about myself...but what about you? how's work?"

djdjfjg aa you like it??? jsjdjfjf 🥺🥺 it was mostly just a bunch of me being sad and wishing for viet rep so the fact that it’s not. an entire mess is very gratifying-

honestly I started wanting to sort of continue writing it as a middle finger to Miss Saigon-

(the musical. not the actual Miss Saigon, I want to make it clear that my issues are with the freaking musical I hate it so much aaa-)

(let’s just say that despite it being a musical about South Vietnam, they sold Ho Chi Minh/Vietcong flags as merchandise and wHAT THE HOLY FUDGE-)

(there are a lot of things I have issues with regarding that musical but whatever that’s besides the point)

So basically a few other things I planned out is “trà sữa boba” which is either gonna be the chapter title/a song name... idk why but I sort of want to write it in music form now- but basically trà sữa boba translates to “boba milk tea” and basically, the boba place where linh and renn meet is basically the hangout place for the the vietnamese high schoolers. and like, one day linh and renn are hanging out there again, and they’re sitting at a table together and chatting while linh reads a college ap textbook she borrowed from the library to prepare for scibowl (this is projecting my friend onto linh here-)

and so then we meet renn’s friend, aiden, the resident awesome non-binary gay who works the counter at the boba place every day after school (their dad is the manager). and Aiden is all “emmm oiiiiiii come here and help meee” to which Renn shoots back “I’m not your em-“

(em is the honorific for people younger than you but old enough to be your sibling/younger sibling)

so Aiden just comes back with “oh my bad, ba già” which basically means old lady, and linh goes pfffft and is trying not to laugh, which leads to Aiden and linh talking and introducing themselves and like Aiden is low key platonically flirting, and then suddenly renn is jealous but confused because she doesn’t. like linh that much. so why-?

then Aiden has to go take someone’s order, and they’re alone again. and linh notices Renn angrily sipping her boba, and is like “are you jealous?” and renn almost dies until she finds out Linh thinks that she has a crush on Aiden and now Renn is half-dying for many reasons 

so they just keep chilling until Renn notices Aiden literally arranging mint leaves into a heart before placing the order down in front of this other guy (Kendrick) (whom Aiden ded has a crush on) and so obviously Renn teases him and asks why Aiden never gives her a little mint heart, which leads to linh making a comment as to how there seems to be a community of its own at the tea shop. so this transitions into more of the regulars entering the boba shop and a general vibe of we all know each other, and found family babyyyyy (also I present to you “plus we’ve got nhiều người bê đê / hell yeah we’re here to stay / let’s all reclaim the name / be proud of our ways” and basically nhiều người bê đê means lots of gays aha- and bê đê means gay but it’s often used in a derogatory way so yeah-)

then that transitions into “the other Vietnamese culture club,” because basically all of the regulars are viet kids who aren’t a part of the viet culture club (which Linh is the president of) at the high school for various reasons, such as not fitting in/not being “nerdy” enough aka this is basically the self-established viet teens gsa, and Linh gets roped into their meetings, where she’s like oh no. is there member confidentiality?? and renn is like relax I haven’t been outed yet, you won’t be either and then suddenly goes. shoot did I just come out to linh and why do I care so much? meanwhile linh is like oh gosh does she know?? and why am I slightly happy by the fact that she like girls too?? what is going on??

haha yeah- might actually. write this somehow. One day. :3

Btw aaa I really like the boba milk tea song idea!! I like the found-family-dynamic/tight knit community within the tea shop and i think it would make for a really good musical number!! And i dunno it makes for a good introduction to the atmosphere and the general setting where renn and lihn would hang out together and how that atmosphere would affect them and the development of their relationship YAYYY i'm just rambling incoherently rn cause um yea currently in world religions class and currently very sleepy but i think your idea is really cool!!! Okay so the bit in KOTLC Nightfall where Blur’s features get outlined and Sophie talks about the familiarity of the guys round cheeks even if she didn’t specifically recognize him... is anyone else thinking it’s Jensi’s brother. We never got a name for him but we have been told he’s older and a phaser and then Jensi is always described by his round face. Did other people make that connection cause I haven’t seen anyone talk about it

Miss Asp is someone who was born just a little too soon. She's really stuck in this 1950s idea of what a woman has to be and she wasn't able to have that for a couple reasons we talk about in the show, and it sort of wrecked her. When confronted with these young women who are hell-bent on rebellion, just the idea of that makes her world crumble. This idea of young women actually having hope is something that's so upsetting to her because she just never had that.

There’s a few of these shots in the trailer with Leah in this dress with someone. I can only assume they’re from a dream sequence she’s going to have (maybe a hallucination?) as you can see multiple copies of That Disgusting Man I Refuse To Name’s book all around her. Context would suggest the man with her is That Disguting Man I Refuse To Name but it doesn’t really look like him. maybe Dr. Faber? Please for the love of God just let her get over this horrible abuser and work through her trauma I just want her to be okay.

They all look about as dead inside as I feel.

Here is a little fun fact about me, I’m a slut for visual and thematic parallels in TV shows so when I tell you I am going to be absolutely eating this shit up this season-

(Disclaimer: I know that there are very, very strong opinions about the introduction of the boys group. And I completely understand the reservations behind it. So, before anyone comes for me, yes I absolutely still want the heart and soul of this show to be about the girls the same way it was season 1. But, I do trust the writer’s enough that when they say the introduction of the boys will not take away from the female-centered story they seek to tell, I choose to believe them. I’m going into this season with an open mind, excited to see what kind of conversations and parallels they can draw from having the boys experiment on the side. Two of the actors who play the boys have even made comments on how the content of season 2 is just there to deepen the story and plot and in no way meant to take away from the girls. The girls are still everything to me and I want to see them front and center. I am just very interested with what they’re going to do with this development. Thank you, soap box over, back to the rundown).

Okay this bitch...I really still am buying into the theory that Alex is going to be the Lihn of the boys experiment? Especially since a) there were only 8 boys cast and b) when Lihn was prepping to go to the girl’s island this sallow skeleton man was nowhere to be found, it was just Thomas, Lihn, and Gretchen that we saw.

(I also recall Gretchen making a comment about Alex that he should go to check ont he girls because he “knows the island better than anyone” ??? okay so are there two islands or are they on the same island because if that’s the case why is Alex familiar with this one???)

Maybe the same scene as Rafael running up on something looking shook from the beginning of the trailer, but this show is literally impossible to decifer anything with costuming since they’re stuck with the same damn things all the time I have stopped trying.

I have...so many thoughts and GOOSEBUMPS LIKE DAMN THAT’S A GOOD LINE. The first one being I am either going to want to die for this boy or murder him because he will be revealed to be said monster, there is no in between I just got that vibe. The second is that every voice over with him, it looks like he’s in the room talking to Leah. It could be the interviews like that the girls have had (and looks like will continue to have), but the camera angles (and later shots in the trailer) as well as how transparent he sounds like he’s being make me think otherwise. 

Also, how fucking interesting would it be if most of the boys story is being told to us through Rafael telling Leah about their time on the island? And we as the audience have to decipher along with Leah if we can really believe this kid or if he’s an unreliable narrator and sort of not telling her the whole truth. They’re either going to be in kahoots to get the hell out of that bunker or he’s working with Gretchen as the confederate and will completely betray her. Like, come on this is going to be so ihgygjgygBIASDUBODBC.

(If they are somehow on the same island, can you imagine if the “animal sounds” the girls hear are actually just the boys and vice versa? I still have no idea where I fall on the they’re on the same island/they’re not. I think if Gretchen put them on the same place, it would be because she expected the groups to eventually find each other to help prove her hypothesis that, if they integrated, the girls would still lead. @whitetrashjj season 3 plot anyone???).

Maybe that teaser of Dot asking Fatin what date it was and looking all shook is because her birthday is coming up? Please that would be so cute. (also where the hell did they get that bottle of alcohol and the sparklers and the sash from I just...) 

I saw someone point out in this post the parallel between the photo Dot gave her dad in s1 with her holding the sparklers and this shot. I choose to ignore that and not start weeping on this Sunday afternoon. 

Someone is getting their shit rocked and I kind of hope it’s that Emo Man Bun Kid (Henry), no I will not be explaining this statement in any way shape or form, next frame.

Miss Girl is really just...going to be going through it this season, huh? Lost a sister and a hand, shit’s rough.

I don’t know if most of the boy’s shots are spoilers and that’s why they can’t show too much or if the boy’s experiment is going to go horribly wrong so Gretchen has to call it early and they just aren’t on the island that long...but I stg they put this fire scene in the trailer no less than 89 times.

Also, it looks like the girls are getting a new camp this season not on the beach. Probably has something to do with the crippling trauma of watching your friend die on the beach in front of you but, what do I know?

I already know there’s about to be a big huge power struggle between Kirin and Seth and it’s either going to end up being so interesting or grate on my motherfucking nerves, bro. @whitetrashjj and @brizzlovesyou and I were talking about this last night, but we really want to have high hopes for Kirin. The asshole jock trope is so tired at this point if they do anything nuanced with him, it’ll be a breath of fresh air. After the incredible character work they pulled off in season 1, I do trust them to do something layered and different with his character like please I’m exhausted by that character archetype. 

ALSO an interesting note from @whitetrashjj ...if you really watch this clip, Kirin almost looks more like he’s holding Seth back from something rather than attacking him. His face is not necessarily aggressive in his clip, and (this is probably some clown shit but whatever) for just a milisecond in the first clip, you can see Seth almost leaning around Kirin like he’s looking at someone else. So, this could be a “whoa, okay calm down, take a breath” scene. Take that how you will 👀.

Fatin is so good to Leah and she needs that so badly it’s going to break my fucking heart if they make them have another falling out this season. I think they are by far my favorite friendship in the show (followed closely by Dot and Fatin). I don’t personally romantically ship them, but I can 1000% see why people do I JUST WANT THEM BOTH HAPPY.

Here we see them moniotring the boys experiment again. Idk if this means anything but on the right screen we can see Raf standing very much apart from the other boys. 

(one thing I have noticed that may support Different Islands is the beach? The girls island is the iconic sort of black sand beach and from the shots we’ve seen from the boys beach it’s all white sand? Unless it’s just on the other side of the island I doNT KNOW but in general I think the more I see of this terrain the more I think it looks like just a different island).

Okay, this may be reaching like the entirety of this post is, but the assumption about this scene is supposed to be Scotty is in his interview with the agent guy and Dr. Faber. But, the wording is a little strange to me. It almost sounds like he could be talking to Leah or one of the other girls about what they went through on the island. “You were up against something…”. It even could sound like they cut off a “did” at the front of it. “Did you ever feel…”

Just an interesting note.

I’m going to assume this is another Leah dream sequence based on...the man...wearing a suit on the beach? I did notice also that if we’re going with the Two Different Islands Theory based on the geographical differences of the two beaches we’ve seen, this one looks a little more like the boys beach to me. 

Once again, I think this is Dot and I absolutely hate it. 

@yellowlaboratory and I agree. This is probably one of the boys (maybe one of Gretchen’s people) cutting the wires to one of the cameras. Does one of them figure it out while they’re still stranded pre-bunker?

Thanks to @brizzlovesyou editing skills and lightening the picture, this is Seth alone on the beach. Maybe I’m just hella suspicious of everything in this show at this point, but there’s something so ominous about any of them being there alone. Also idk who the hell that shelter they build is for, it may just be my poor depth perception, but it looks like it was built either to hold a toddler or one boy at a time laying in the fetal position.

I’m just going to send up a prayer now that this is an animal he’s stabbing especially since that shot of Ivan and the boys running away with spears in their hands looks like it could be from the same scene.

Leah’s dream sequence pt 3.

Kirin, Raf, Seth, Henry. They’ve got some food is what I think that box next to Kirin is. At least they’re laughing for now.

Talking to Rafael, same as before. @brizzlovesyou​ pointed out these could potentially be two separate occasions with her in his room based on how healed the cut on Leah’s forehead looks between this and a shot we will see later. Hearing them compare notes is going to be so fucking interesting oml.

Yoikes, Kirin looks exponentially worse in this shot than he does in the others. Clearly deeper into their time being stranded because this boy is crispy.

Leah’s Dream Sequence pt. 4?

Two people swimming out to that rock in the middle. Looks more like two of the girls to me.

The way I would be shitting my pants. 

Feeding into the actual wild animals being on the loose plot line. After they got mentioned the first time in s1 I was so mf clenched just waiting for them to show up and, for the boys at least, it’s really making it seem like they will be a much bigger issue in s2. 

My original theory based on the shot of Seth alone was some kind of exile situation. But, this clip shows the same tiny ass shelter and behind the hand (Leah’s?) I counted at least 5 of them walking around. So, this really must just be their camp and their tiny ass shelter. 

I’m going to choose to focus on the Martha s1 parallel of this shot and not how horrifying it is out of context and most likely even within, thank you for understanding. 

The fact that I know this shot is going to be in like the first 5 mins of the show keeps me awake at night. I’m so confused as to what’s going to happen to Nora where she can get Rachel to shore but not herself. Was this meant to be the extraction? Though it is a bit unclear if Helena’s departure from the cast recently caused them to have to make some narrative changes and Nora really is going to be gone. 

Same scene as the spear moment, just him throwing rocks. They really, really want us to think Kirin is going to be extremely aggressive and antagonistic this season which just makes me want to think he’ll actually be the opposite or have some insane character growth.

The difference between the next two shots is honestly the height of comedy to me. 

(But, also what is Raf doing here just sitting with his eyes shut I am fr questioning everything with these guys-)

For Father’s Day going to do what I think Kotlc kids would do for it if this is a holiday for them (spoilers)

Keefe: nothing his father doesn’t deserve anything but he gets to a mug

Sophie: she gets Grady a mug and a few small gifts plus a framed photo of the two of them. She dose want to do more but she doesn’t really have the time and is exhausted. Grady loves the gifts

Biana: she and her mom make him breakfast in bed and they blow up some balloons Alden doesn’t really want anything big after alvar.

Fitz: helps biana but also gets a gag gift from the forbidden cites it’s a shirt that says “I think my dad knows what I’m thinking”

Dex: he makes keslar a self organizaing bucket thing for the important stuff at slurps and burbs that keeps going missing he also spends as much of the dad with his dad as he can

Whilye: he gets teirgain and prentice both custom mugs with pitures of them on it (on teirgains it’s teirgain and whiley and prentice’s prientice and whiley except for a few pictures with all of them) and mostly just talks to them for the day

Tam and lihn: they hang out with keefe there’s a lot of jokes made about the guys hair but mostly there just happy to spend the day with someone else who has a bad dad

There are more but I don’t know a lot about there fathers or just the character themselves
