I’ve been thinking iconisverse thoughts. Ms. Asp and the Squip are one and the same: created and molded and built for a purpose, to make the youth normal. They are not the system, they are perpetuators of it, and they genuinely don’t understand why their teens aren’t obeying. As their control slips, they decide their teens are beyond saving (Ms. Asp thinking the girls are just incapable of being helped and have powers to torture her, Squip deciding that just telling people what to do won’t work and he needs to make everyone get a squip) and they lose their carefully crafted persona of laid-back perfection. And then, in their final hour when everything has been ruined for them, they’re killed.

But at their cores, all they wanted to do was to fulfill the mission they were promised. Grant happiness and joy and stability. All they wanted was to help, but they were programmed to believe that help meant stripping away all that is good and unique.

i think. there should be more anime’s about the dire desperation to eat. the entire series was trying to promote eating bc “it’s a privilege of living” and it hits so hard. especially when it gets lowkey corrupted like when laios made the deal with the winged lion but ultimately ended up eating the winged lion’s desire to eat aka his appetite. BECAUSE as a consequence of that laios will never be able to be full and always 40% hungry all the time. like that’s so fucked up but that plot point was so fucking good. i need more anime’s that have the main character(s) have the mindset to “just eat bc you need to live” bc the plot will go beyond eating silly food and making silly dishes, it will have a deeper message in there and i will eat it up so bad. especially if there’s a scene where it borderlines cannibalism like we all know the romanticism of cannibalism come on. like it doesn’t even need to be a thriller bc dungeon meshi isn’t a thriller or even horror. it just has that undermining eerie-ness when it comes to the basis of the plot. which ultimately is “eating.” i love you ryoko kui i wanna kiss ur brain
