Introducing my 381k Payneland fic!

Some of you may have seen my post yesterday about how I wasn't sure on how I should post this monstrosity of a fic but the vast majority of you requested that I post it in chapters! So here's all the information you need to know about it.

When and how will it be posted?

The first chapter will be posted on the 9th of September. There will be 30 chapters in total all stretching out to be between 10-15k each. By this schedule the fic should roughly finish up April of next year! However the full thing is written so I may feel generous and occasionally post twice a week however I'd like to build a community! So I'll be creating a tag for you guys to follow over here where I'll post snippets, extended scenes and scrapped scenes. When the fic ends I also have alternative endings written out that you guys might like! Depending on the popularity of this fic I might end up even creating a discord server, I'm not particularly sure how this fic will do but I'm a huge fan of connecting with my readers, more about a discord server below.

Is the fic titled yet? What's it about?

Yes it is! The fic will be called 'My Godforsaken Loverboy' and it's an AU of Edwin and Charles being dorm mates at St. Hilarions spanning five years. It's very much a slow burn that may drive you insane but I promise I spent forever going through Tumblr hunting down popular head canons and dynamic wishes that seemed popular to throw in this fic so hopefully there's something for everyone! A proper summary will be released soon!

Is this based off the Netflix Series?

Here's where I may lose some people. While it's definitely got plenty of aspects from the Netflix shows (Mostly character wise) I planned the entire fic around the comics and Doom Patrol's season three episode 'Dead Patrol' so the dynamics may be different to what you'll be expecting if you've only watched the Netflix show! I apologise if this throws some people off but I adore them in Doom Patrol dearly.

Now a question for you guys, do we want a discord server?

I'd love a discord server centred around Dead Boy Detectives in general! Where we could share head cannons, fanart, fic recs, ect in more of a discussion way instead of screaming into a void. So here's my idea, I'm more than happy to create an overall Dead Boy Detectives server however it'd just have a channel or two dedicated purely to this fic but I'd have plenty of other channels for different fics as well! I've been on servers like this before and really enjoyed them. Send me a message if you like this idea so I don't lose track of you and if I get enough people I'll make it!

Season 1, episodes 1-6

I forgot how good the writing and animation are in the first season, like they truly thrived under aniplex😔 the brief white blood period in I think season 3 shows us just how good we had it

I love seeing Hawk and Meliodas's relationship, and his star Boar earring😭 plus having the Boar hat as the main location is just so comforting !!

Also I JUST realized his name is hawk because of a ham hok😭😭 this is like when I realized toe mater's name was tomato at the ripe age of 18

I miss the holy knights being powerful. Like I get that the Sins are always more powerful than them, had a long way to go in terms of power ups, and meliodas straight up had most of his power sealed but like DAMN. They were so cool in season 1 !! Gil was such a badass😭 I guess I just wish that the holy knights powered up along with the Sins

Seeing the very first episode got me thinking about the original pilot Manga (chapter 0) and how cool it might have been !! Like I love the story we got, but I do think those versions of Mel and Elizabeth maybe would have been better than the ones we got😳 like I just really like Meli's original design, I feel like he looks a bit older, and chapter 0 Elizabeth is simply superior ngl. She's funny, brave, and assertive - a lot more like Liz and goddess Elizabeth, except funnier

The first half of season 1 has one of my fave intro and outros like damn I forgot how fucking cool they were. Some of my fave songs to !! (my all time fave is def howling from season 3 part 2 (i think lol) tho)

Everytime the fiddle (?) Music plays I get SO FUCKING HYPED BRO like damn Ik it's through all the seasonal and I'm so glad it is because it's rlly the perfect hype song - here it is on Spotify

Also Gil is such a badass in early episodes, I love his strength !! This moment is the fucking coolest and you can't convince me otherwise

Overall, I think the attention to detail is just better, the sounds the armor makes, the animation and drawings (esp background characters), Meliodas just sounds a bit older too (and I have theories on his voice here if u want them 👀)

The whole perv thing is really exhausting really quickly. Almost surprised 14 year old me made it through this as the 2nd anime I ever watched and the 1st I watched alone

I feel like Diane got shorter through the seasons. Like she doesn't compare to Hawk Mama like she did in season 1, and I think that's a damn shame. Let my giant girl be giant !!

She's also a decent bit more violent and I enjoy that thoroughly. She's just a silly goofy kween😌

Also her original costume is superior, her boots are just👌

Just realized that Meliodas was like an older brother/mentor to Gil and now they're brothers in law 😭😭

Also young Elizabeth and Gil are so cute😭 I always forget that they grew up together too

Okay SO in episode 5, when Ban is about to get his scar from the dragon handle sword, he tells Meliodas "you and me have been hanging together for a lot of years now." This scene takes place 12 years before present (bp). Does this mean Ban and Meliodas were friends before the formation of the Sins? Or was Ban the first after him and Merlin? Ban has been immortal 20 years BP, leaving 8 years in between present and the flashback. 8 years before this scene, Meliodas was still in Danafal/Danfor and would be for another 4 years. What does any of this mean? Idk, just thot it was intriguing lol.

Also how did I not notice this is the first time we see demon!Meliodas !! Baby's first sighting as an unnatural creature with otherworldly rage🥰🥰

Also the fact we never see the scar Gil gave him again lol. Plus him presumably needing to do demon mode so hellfire can heal him is actually rlly cool

Just thought about how Elizabeth laying her hand on his chest to check the scar was the first time in years his love touches him with gentleness or concern🥲🥲

The fact that it took me 6 years to realize that when Meliodas says he'll keep the promise he made to Elizabeth, even if she should die is referencing the promise he made to her originally to break their curses🥲😬😤😭😭😭😭

i think it’s a lot different when you know who is going to win because i went in paying attention to erika and really vibing with her but i get the impression no one was expecting her to win the way that a lot of people thought maryanne would win over everyone else in f5.

that said, i think 41 was my favorite bc i love when people are smart but also canNot keep their mouths shut, these people were so gossipy and got soooo heated with each other, but i didn’t hate anyone, i was rooting for everyone, like i was riveted i had fun.

i literally keep replaying that “do i believe that? no i do not,” moment between naseer and heather on loop in my mind it was soooo funny aksjsjs

that said, i had to walk away during some of his answers for the final tribal because he is just so sweet but he is SO unaware i was HURTING even with evvie and ricard clearing trying to lead him to an answer, it took like four false starts for him to name a good social read and everyone to nod and go “oh yeah that one makes sense”

drea’s comedic timing is unparalleled. i have never laughed that loud at a reality tv contestant, her voice is just so expressive. yes i’m talking about the potato line she is funnier than every comedian on netflix to me

that season had me screaming every episode it was really fun to watch and maryanne just like. sparkles. she’s enchanting.

crash landing on you - ♾ / 10 (highly recommended, i swear you won't regret watching it, especially if you like the trope where the ml fells first and falls harder)

the uncanny counter - 10/10 (if you like something thay involves powers or supernatural with action, then this is what you might be looking for)

business proposal - 11/10 (a romcom series, an adaptation of it's manhwa series, characters are very relatable, employee and ceo relationship trope with a pinch of fake dating)

love alarm - season 1 is 99.9/10 while season 2 is 5/ 10 (ngl, i prefer s1 better than s2, and as much as i would like to spoil why, i believe you should watch it on your own to find out. if you like angst so much, then here it is)

sweet home - 100/10 (this is a thriller and suspense series, every episode hits that impact, just a heads up that s2 is also on the way, so you won't have to be annoyed at the ending of s1!)

start-up - 1000/10 (another romcom series, however this is has something to do with starting a business? i forgot the plot, but then again it's actually a good kdrama to watch, let me know if you've already fallen for the second male lead of the series 😉)

school 2015 - ♾/10 (OH TO WATCH THIS SERIES LIKE IT'S YOUR FIRST TIME TO DO SO, i highly recommend this as well, the plot is very 🤌, the second male lead deserves so much, I REPEAT HE DESERVES SO MUCH BETTER LIKE WHY DID THEY DO HIM LIKE THAT 😔)

school 2013 - 8/10 (not too bad but not too good as well, higschool romcom series!)

20th century girl - ♾/10 (THIS MOVIE, ISTG THIS MOVIE COMES SECOND BEFORE TITANIC FOR HURTING ME SO BAD, a he fell first but she fell harder trope, i suggest you prepare a couple of tissues...but overall, a really great movie! it would somehow make you realize that time is short and so can be love, so yeah let the people around you know how much you love them)

it's okay to not be okay - ♾/10 (i highly recommend this as well, there are some scenes where it can be emotional or confusing, but trust me it's really good, i'd say that it's about two people who are broken yet are also trying to love each other 🙁)

A long post about Humans-B-Gone and some other bug stuff

I’ve been thinking about @humansbgone again since the new episode came out, and it got me motivated to keep working on some fanart that I never got around to finishing. Thankfully, I’ve still got plenty of time to finish it before the fanart contest deadline.

The series’ role-reversal theme was on full display as Rose the tarantula was startled at the sight of a human, just like how we might react to seeing a spider. Well, those of us that aren’t bug and/or spider enthusiasts, that is. I will admit, I used to be much more skittish around them as a kid, and even now, my subconscious mind still isn’t convinced that they’re not threats.

Last week or so, I woke up screaming from a nap because I dreamed that a praying mantis lunged at me. That’s what happens whenever I get too hot while I’m asleep- insects and/or spiders start appearing in my dreams, and they’ll keep appearing everywhere I look until one of them jumps towards me and scares me awake. Usually it’s a spider, but this time it was a praying mantis. I don’t remember dreaming about a praying mantis before. 🤔

Also it turns out that it’s “praying” mantis and not “preying” mantis. I wasn’t sure which one was right because technically both are true- they put their forelimbs together like they’re praying, and they prey on other bugs, so they’re praying and preying mantises.

As for what’ll happen next in Humans-B-Gone, I can’t say. 🤷🏻‍♀️ What I can say is what I’m hoping will happen next. What I’m curious about is if we’ll get to see…

Where Sophodra’s going to bring all the humans she caught in episode 3 to. I wonder if they’re still in her backpack, trying desperately to find a way out?

If the humans have a safe place to take their hazmat suits off.

Even more macrovolutes! I wonder if they have giant luna moths? Luna moths are cute, but I feel bad for them because they can’t eat anymore, so they have to find a mate quickly, because they’ll starve to death within a week. I wonder if that also applies to their macrovolute version, or if they’ve found a way around that? 🤔 On the other hand, I wonder if we’ll see a macrovolute version of… *shudder* antlion larvae?! 😰 I mean, i-it’s fine, it won’t stop me from watching if we do see antlion larvae, I’m not scared or anything… but they are the reason why I can’t bring myself to watch a playthrough of the PC version of SimAnt. 😓

And of course, on the gub side of things, I’d like to see more of the weird mutant vertebrates- besides mammals and birds, I’m also curious about how the reptiles, amphibians, and fish are different from real ones. Especially the fish. We know the sky isn’t safe because of the mutant birds, but what about the water? Something tells me it probably isn’t any safer… 🤨

Gregorsa said that insects and arachnids can become macrovolutes, but other arthropods can’t, not even when they’re the same size as the macrovolutes. So that would mean that centipedes and millipedes can’t be macrovolutes, nor can crabs, lobsters, or shrimp. I wonder what they’re like, then? Are they just wild animals, like the mutant vertebrates? Is there a reason they can’t be macrovolutes? Oh, and that reminds me, there’s still that mysterious “bolecore” that both Gregorsa and Sophodra mentioned. We don’t know what it is yet, but I have a feeling it’s the key to how the macrovolutes “conquered the square-cube law” as Gregorsa put it. That, and the lack of gravity.

What could those ant-agonistic ants be plotting? What is their scheme? What horrors shall they wreak upon macrovolute-kind? They’d better keep their hands- er, legs? …off of Rose’s cute little family, or else I’ll… uh… I’ll…

…frown and dejectedly say “nooooo…” I guess. 😔

So I guess that’s it for now. Who’d have thought I’d be so interested in a series about giant bugs?

ok i have watched the first 3 episodes i really like michiru and i think shirou is so lameguy . i really like the mystery aspect i love love love love mystery i was not expecting to be like... finding out stuff like this? but its really neat. also marie is very funny i have not met that many other characters tho i think michiru might have a thing where she can like.. become more than one animal with the arm extending thing and she had a beak for a second? and she has wings in the outro? so idk whats up w that. shes really funny tho..... also LAST THING i think its funny shirou just launched himself off a builkding and fell onto several things on the way there and was like "no lol im fine." and then immediately starts doubling over in pain. michiru was like wtf is wrong w u dude......

!!! Michiru is so beloved, she’s just someone having kind of a very weird/bad day who really just wants to play some basketball and see her pal again…. Shirou perhaps the lamest most failure guy in the city, he’s trying though 😔 looking after kids is hard, not like it’s half his job or anythinggg. yeah the mystery aspect is really fun, gah I miss it so much waugh wah wah.

Marie’s so funny and also sort of also a cringe-fail loser like Shirou, except she’s. a significantly cooler loser, whose atrocities and crimes are funny and interesting and justified, thank u for listening <3 yeah the “every animal” thing is explained a little later, but Michiru has a lot of fun with it, as you can imagine JWHWJGWJG.

if it’s one thing Shirou is good at, it’s doing something extremely dangerous and becoming incredibly injured but just going “tch. I’m fine, stop asking, this is just a flesh wound 🙄” and then he keels over on the floor while Michiru screams so loud.
