Who else has watched that 2009 movie called Skyrunners it’s so good!
The two main brothers sometimes bicker but their relationship is so sweet and the older brother Nick is protective over his younger brother Tyler. They even have a really sweet reunion hug towards the end and Nick is shown to be so worried about him
#they even have a forehead touch and if there’s one thing I love in fiction it’s a platonic forehead touch#I loved the one in the hobbit with kili and thorin so it’s nice to see it here#I just love the protective older brother trope#skyrunners#skyrunner 2009#disney skyrunners#nick burns#tyler burns

Hobbit/LOTR characters when their s/o is upset with them
yes i'm reusing this trope and i dont care its easy-- also lmk if u want more characters and which onessss :3
requests are open (seriously please give me ideas)
Thorin
honestly
his reaction is so dependant on when you're upset with him
if its during the journey he will notice right away
he refuses to go to bed angry at each other
he makes time for you guys to talk every night
if its during his dragon sickness bit
yeah
no
he doesn't give a single shit
telling him that you're upset doesn't even do anything except make him mad
like you're wasting his time
AND
not looking for the stone so like
what the fuck are you doing
if we're talking like after the war
everybody lives au ofc
it probably takes him a little while to notice that you're upset if you don't flat out say anything
he's just slightly busy rebuilding a kingdom
honestly when he does notice or when you tell him
he feels bad
he decides it's time for a break
even if it's just for an hour or two
will take you through the halls just to talk through things
or he'll sit and have tea with you
honestly whatever you wanna do he's down
you are his only priority
if only for an hour
Fili
i would say that he's probably pretty in tune with your emotions
hes a sweet dwarf
will make you tea because he knows your upset
sometimes forgets that hes a little shit
like doesnt realise that things he does can make people upset
let alone you
right over his head
you will have to sit him down and talk with him
he will feel bad immediately
will apologize
offers to make it up to you in any way he can
I feel like if this happens after like the battle and the reclaiming of his future kingdom
he might be a bit busy
but he wants to sit and talk to you every night before bed
even if its just for a few minutes
so when you went to bed without him one night
oh he knows he messed up
theres no way to misinterpret that
will wake you up with kisses and apologies
even if he doesn't know what he is apologizing for
hes just a big sweetie
Kili
sweet boy
another kind of clueless one
id assume that you probably get upset at him sometime during the journey
while yes he is sweet
he can be kind of neglectful without meaning to be
he feels like he has to prove himself to his uncle because he is different from the other dwarves.
has a lot on his mind
i feel like he deffo neglects your relationship at times bc of it
which is why you pulled back
not pushing for affection as much as you did before
letting him get himself into bad situations
reminding him to eat/sharpen his sword
setting up his bedroll while he goes off to help with camp set up
it takes him a couple days to realize something is off
bc he totally doesnt realize how much you're actually looking out for him
it hits him one night after dinner that his bed roll isnt set up? and its not next to you? and you're already asleep?
wait when did he actually sit down and talk to you last?
doesn't sleep that night, just sits and watches you while thinking back on the past like week
as soon as you wake up he's by your side and asking if you guys could take a walk before the journey starts for that day
you agree
he immediately starts apologizing and explaining himself
i think the best way to deal with it is to like
have a nice sit down and talk it out
maybe not right at that moment but
eventually you guys have a long talk where you both talk about how you're feeling with the relationship and just emotionally and i think that solves a lot
like he lets u know just how insecure he is bc of how different he is
and you can talk about feeling neglected
at the end of it all he promises to put more effort but also wants you to know that you dont HAVE to do all those things for him to notice you/love you
very healthy tbh

Soul Traitor
Rating: M
Warnings: Graphic Depiction of Violence
Status: In-progress (5/?)
Tags: Reincarnation | Soulmates | Soulmarks | Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence | Past Lives Death Scenes | Betrayals | Misunderstandings | Angst with a Happy Ending | Arkenstone - Freeform | Goldsickness
Summary: Betrayal among soulmates is unheard of in all the free races of Arda, yet that’s exactly what Durin VI, King of Khazad-dûm, endures. Heartsick and angry, he damns the Valar for their choice and earns their wrath in return. He and his former love will be reincarnated until the wrong between them is righted. Thorin Oakenshield, Durin’s lastest reincarnation, believes nothing can break that curse but for the Arkenstone that was stolen so many years ago. Gandalf, the meddlesome wizard, offers a hobbit translator for their quest. Yet, this hobbit may be the key to uncovering more than just a gem. An ugly truth that has remained hidden in the misdeeds and lost words of the past, about to be unlocked and free Thorin and Bilbo from this seemingly never ending cycle.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
New Chapter: Chapter 4- Songs About Gold
It did not endear Thorin to their hired translator, and he spent most of their journey doing his best to ignore the halfling. He thought his company would take cues from him, but Frerin’s hatred was a bit harder to overcome. Frerin made it apparent that they weren’t to engage with the halfling, weren’t to treat him like an actual person. For some reason, it didn’t sit right with Thorin, but he didn’t do anything to stop it either. He could tell that he disappointed Ori.
His apprentice had a brilliant mind and a large heart. Ori didn’t understand why their race continued to punish another for the sake of one being. It was a source of contention between the two as Thorin had the memories of exactly what that one being had cost them. Still, he wasn’t too surprised when the company factioned to include the halfling and Ori was one of them. Kili surprised him, but not Ori.
Still the desire to know what was in that journal nagged at Thorin. Sure, he had Durin’s memories, but another firsthand account of what Khazad-dum had been like was almost too much to hope for. The historian in him fought hard against the prince, demanding that he engage with the halfling. He didn’t have to be nice. It was a business transaction after all. He just needed to know. Every day though, he pushed that voice away. He would not, could not, be the one to interact with the halfling. And then the halfling surprised him by speaking to him first. Well, more accurately, warning him.
Superstitious nonsense, and even if it wasn’t he couldn’t afford to look weak and bend to the commands of this halfling. Not with everything that was riding on this mission. His one chance to change his fate. No, he disregarded the halfling. Even as those determined, pleading eyes haunted him into the night.
Now, it may be too late to regret it.
Thorin weakly opened his eyes, unable to move his body as it was being draped in white cloth and golden baubles from the demons that stole him and his company. Their cold eyes shined brightly in the dark, and their screeches carried a certain cadence. Almost as if they were singing. They glided effortlessly around him, all except for the one at the end holding a long gleaming blade.
Thorin’s eyes drifted close, the energy fading from him fast. Durin, Thorin I, Dain, and now him. He’ll just be another voice in the head of the next dwarf.
The Hobbit Masterlist
*I was formerly known as bluemountainsmajesty and plan to rewrite some of my orphaned fics on ao3. For now, I'm linking them below:
Domestic Oneshots Masterlist - A series of oneshots (with the occasional second or third part), focusing on domestic relationships and moments between you and members of the company. [33/33]
Bilbo
Comfort - Bilbo has a relaxing Valentine’s Day planned, starting with a nice bath.
More than Friends - A dear friend is visiting the Shire and Bilbo discovers he may want to be more than friends.
Bofur
Alterations - Bofur means well, but is ill prepared when ordering a dress to surprise Y/N.
Cold Shoulder - Y/N feels ostracized and like she has intruded on dwarrow life, just by living in the mountain to be with Bofur. He finds a way to fix things.
Fixated - "If it’s not too much to ask you for a Bofur smut fic where he has a particular oral fixation so he goes down on the reader a lot? I’d like a gender neutral reader" nsfw
Mr. Sociable - “Are you jealous? Want me all to yourself, do you?"
Subtlety - Bofur wants to make a grand gesture for the woman he loves, and it gets a little Great Gatsby on him.
Dori
A Perfect Fit - “I’d like to ask for a Dori (hobbit) domestic fic please. I just don’t think he gets enough love. Maybe falling for a small dark-haired human running an orphanage? Cause that would channel all those great parenting instincts he has.” request
Dwalin
A Dream Come True - "Were you dreaming about me again?" w/ Dwalin - smut smut smut NSFW
Love Story - Dwalin is a bigger softie than he lets on.
Ode to my One - Dwalin's anniversary gift for his wife is both unexpected and endearing.
Suspenders - At the royal wedding, Dwalin has a wardrobe malfunction. Reader offers to lend a hand. Hints at some NSFW
They Gave Each Other a Pledge - Thorin's youngest sister is in a secret relationship with his best friend. All is well until he catches them together. NSFW
Fili
Confessions - “Fili feat. miscommunication, confessions, nearly missed chances (and more than a little bit of wine)” I want to say this was from a Fizzy writing event.
Dwarven Merchants - Fili x reader role switching au. The Durins are merchants from Erebor while Y/N is a distant relation to human royals. Fili doesn’t feel like he’s good enough for her. [incomplete series]
Enough is Enough - Thorin’s had enough of his nephew and his wife. Borderline NSFW
Lullabies - Learning to live under the mountain brings certain challenges, like getting used to falling asleep in complete and utter silence.
Not an Overreaction - Fili x reader where Dwalin’s daughter gets caught with her boyfriend. NSFW
Sugar Rush - Fili has a sweet surprise for his wife on Valentine’s Day.
Unveiled - Fili brings you to the Shire with him. Thorin thinks he’s being clever, spiting the wizard by asking you to join the company. He doesn’t know what’s coming.
Kili
Golden Years - The company finds out Y/N’s birth year and think she’s much older than she really is. Kili tries to fix the situation, not wanting her to hate him for his poor choice of words.
Meeting Again - Kili and Y/N reunite after their first meeting on the shore. She gets a bit of a surprise.
Nearly too Late - Y/N is about to return to Rohan, Kili panics.
Nori
Favorite Star - Nori is a bit of a dork on Valentine’s Day, but a dork in love.
Supply Run - Nori and Y/N get some supplies for the company, and Nori reaches a realization.
Ori
Anonymous - These letters just keep coming, it’s time to find out who the secret admirer is.
Into the Woods - “Reader from our world figures out how to survive for months in the wild. Encounters Ori and helps him, in turn asks Ori if you would come home with him. Maybe showing some of Dori’s and Nori’s influence in Ori’s actions towards you.” requested
Thorin
For the Dancing and the Dreaming - Thorin proposing to the reader by singing the “For the Dancing and the Dreaming” from HTTYD. With the reader joining him as a duet - request
Light of Day - Winters in Erebor really take a toll on their human queen. Thorin has an idea on how to fix that.
Skyless Stars - I got inspired by a gifset of glowworms from Waitomo Caves in New Zealand -> I like to think there are caves deep in Erebor like this and lovers take strolls there. Maybe there’s a pool and they go for dips in this little hideaway- away from the others for a moment of peace and privacy, contemplation… or secret kisses with Thorin.
Take a Break - Thorin and his Queen were invited to Rivendell to speak with Lord Elrond. She sees it as a vacation and tries to get her husband to see it the same way.
Unwind - My first smutfic: Thorin’s wife has been getting stressed with her duties lately, he tries to help her relax. NSFW
Valentine’s Festival - Thorin organizes an entire festival for the person he loves.
Wounded Pride - Thorin’s one is hurt, his nephews are to blame, the wizard is gone, and apparently, he had been right about their campsite
#hobbit masterlist#the hobbit x reader#reposting my hobbit fics so I can put a link to this post in my main masterlist bc it is dominating it#...and i kind of want to write for some of my other fandoms more
Thorin Oakenshield x Bilbos brother!reader
You and your brother Bilbo were enjoying a nice dinner when you heard a knock at the door.
"...Did you invite someone?" Aske your brother
"Not that I know of?" You responded unsure. You stood up to open the door (after a short argument on who is going to get it, you lost).
"Dwalin to your service" said a quite rough looking Dwarf standing on your doorstep. He bowed than stepped in, you were quite shocked and forgot to reply
"...Ohmm I mean Y/N Baggings to yours?"
And that was just the start of the night, they started arriving one after the other.
While you were quite amused, they were fun company in your opinion. Your brother didn't agree as much. He got more and more upset the more Dwarfes came.
Gandalf arrived with them and while your brother was busy trying to get an answers from him you were singing along with your guests who were throwing plates around; so basically you were having the time of your life.
Its not that you didn't like the calmness that was in Hobbiton but sometimes...just sometimes you really wanted to go exploring, you wanted to go out on adventures to have some excitement in your life. Thats why you had a secret practice range in the woods behind your house. When you were small your parents got you a bow and an arrow and since then, you loved it. As you got older you perfected the art of archery and got better and better.
When the song ended there was one, slow knock on your door.
"He is here" muttered Gandalf quietly
Since you were closest you went to open the door.
When you opened the door your jaw almost dropped, on the other side stood the most handsome man you have ever seen.
He looked at you and bowed his head.
Your words were stuck in your throat you were processing his godly deeds voice.
The moment would have gotten awkward if Gandalf didn't step in front of you to great the newcomer.
"Bilbo, Y/N, this is the leader of our Company Thorin Oakenshield King under the mountain." He finished with a proud smile
You looked at him and gave him a smile
"Pleasure to meet you" Throin looked at you just for a second longer then it would have been normal, he had to admit you were quite nice to look at, you hade pretty h/c hair beautiful e/c eyes, not to mention a dazzling smile.
"So, Hobbits, tell me what is your weapon of choice" he started while walking around you and your brother.
"A Bow" you answered without missing a beat
"Pardon?" Bilbo was jut confused
Thorin stopped his pacing and looked at you, surprised. He didn't expect an actual answer he had no idea Hobbits wielded weapons. But now that he looks at you better, your build is different than other Hobbits. You're lean and clearly have muscle, you looked good in the button up shirt and west you were wearing. Throin realized he might be staring for too long
"A bow?" Quirked an eyebrow Thorin
"Yes?" You asked more than stated
"You any good" interrupted one of the younger dwarfes who you got to know as Kili.
"We can go out and shoot some arrow right now?" You asked not quite cockily but there was noticeable confidence in your voice
"...But its dark out" responded Kili quite unsure
"So?" You answered back now cockily and smirking.
This took everyone off gourd even Bilbo.
"You still have that bow?" Asked your brother
"The one I got when I was 10? Yes I shoot with my pinky" you answered sarcastically and some of the dwarfes chuckled, to your astonishment, Throin was one of them.
"And you" looked Thorin at Bilbo
"Im...quite good at conkers but I fail to see how thats relevant." Answered Bilbo yet again confused.
"Thought so, he looks more like a grocer than a burglar" chuckled the dwarven king.
"Said the Kind who lost his way twice looking for a simple sign on a door." You answered back.
You were a kind person and quite hard to anger, but when someone was mean to your brother that was the fastest ticket to your rage.
Thorin looked at you and stepped closer almost chest to chest, you were just slightly shorter than him but you still had to tilt your head up just a bit.
"Y/N-" started Gandalf
"I don't care even if you are the King of the world, you do not insult my brother especially under his own roof which he was kind enough to lend to you" you said without any intentions of backing down.
"Now please seet your royal ass at my table because Im sure you had a long journey and wish to eat and drink." And with that you walked towards the kitchen.
Thorin was amazed by you. The courage, and you didn't even weaver while talking to him like that you looked up into his eyes 100% serious no fear.
After everyone settled back to the table, as promised, you came out of the kitchen with a plate of food and something to drink for Throin.
He thanked you when you put it down in front of him and looked at you walking away. But he had to concentrate back at the matter at hand.
While the discussion was going on at the table, you couldn't help looking at Thorin from time to time. He was horribly good looking and you had a hard time focusing on the explanation Gandlaf was providing for you and your brother about the journey they wanted to go one.
You snapped out of your school crush daze when you heard the word dragon. And the next thing you know your brother is fainting and you had to catch him.
After Bilbo gained his consciousness back you and Gandalf tried to convince him to go on this adventure.
"C'mon big bro this what we were playing when we were kids remember? We always went into the woods to discover" you tried to make him remember. A small smile came to his face at the memory but it vanished as soon as it came.
"Y/N, did you hear what they said? A dragon, they are going to fight a dragon I cant even fight the squirrel that has been eating my tomatoes, and if Im not going Im definitely not letting you go"
"What? Bilbo I am an adult Hobbit you know I don't have to listen to you"
"You know that mom and dad trusted me with keeping you safe and going off to fight a dragon is quite the opposite of that" argued your brother.
"Then come with me-"
"No absolutely not, this is the end of the discussion"
"But-"
"I said no, now go to bed these dwarfs are bad impressions for you" with that he stood up and left.
You stood up from the chair you were sitting in and looked into the dining room, more specifically at Thorin, who was in a conversation with Dwalin. He looked at back at you, you guys were looking at each other for a little bit when you finally looked away and walked to your bedroom. You had to get a good night sleep, after all, you are going on an adventure tomorrow, with or without your brother.
Bagginsheild headcanons because I’m obsessed again
- dwalin had to tell thorin to stop staring at Bilbo so intensely the way he was because to the average hobbit it look like he wanted Bilbo dead
- thorin was like but like it’s a look of love and dwalin was like does Bilbo know that
- thorin passes all his courting ideas past dwalin
thorin: dyou think he’d like to be awoken with my singing and harp
Dwalin: I genuinely think he’d like to be awoken with a knife and screaming
- thorin audibly sniffs Bilbo when they hug
- it freaks out everyone else but Bilbo thinks it’s endearing
- Bilbo loves thorins cooking even though it’s inedible
- thorin had marriage beads and rings made the first night he knew he wanted Bilbo
- bilbo encourages kili and fili to do backflips off the throne much to thorins dismay
- thorin asked bombur for some help to make breakfast for Bilbo but realised after thorin smashed open 6 consecutive eggs beyond use that one morning could not be enough time to help him
- all dwarfs love bilbo because he’s so different to other dwarfs but is nice and endearing
- this makes thorin only slightly jealous even though he knows bilbo would never even look at another dwarf twice
- thorin farts underneath a blanket and traps bilbo underneath it
- thorin is genuinely thrown off the first time bilbo gets him back
- thorin doesn’t take his jacket or crown off in his room because Bilbo always does and thorin loves when he does
- just gives him a reason to be close and kiss him
- this means that when Bilbo is mad at him he will just stare at him fully clothed still while bilbos already in bed
Bilbo: If you apologise I might think of taking off your crown and cloak
Thorin: I can’t imagine what I did wrong
Bilbo (who got blanket trapped in a fart in the morning): really!? Nothing rings out to you??!!? Nothing at all?????
Thorin: nope
Bilbo (not turned away from him and falling asleep): you’re right you didn’t do anything wrong
Bagginshield Book Club Discussion #52: Soulmates And Where to Find Them by Lumeleo, The One Who Wouldn't by Salvia_G, and Mountain Flowers by Chrononautical
The final week of our two-month Soulmate Series finds us once again cramming as many amazing stories as we can into one discussion! These last three all have the trope of soulmarks that appear in various places on the body to help identify soulmates. Please join us on Saturday, May 25th at 10am CDT (GMT -5) to discuss these wonderful works!
Please note that one of these works is rated Explicit and our server is intended for adults. Thank you!
Soulmates And Where to Find Them by Lumeleo https://archiveofourown.org/works/4037671 Rating: General Length: 16,223 Warnings: mpreg, nothing too explicit other than first trimester symptoms and some talk of feeling baby kicks Notes: This is a perfect confluence of soulmates, cultural misunderstandings, and mpreg. There are a lot of well-developed side pairings in this AU, especially Gimli/Legolas and Kili/Tauriel. The dwarven way of assigning birth parents based on marital status was a bit confusing for me until I sorted out that your son would be called your brother until you're married, then they're your son. There really are no illegitimate dwarves that way! Summary: Hobbits, Bilbo finds, have an exceedingly simple way of finding their soulmates: You fall in love with who you will, and once you both feel the same, you'll get your marks. Dwarves, in typical dwarven fashion, do everything backwards, getting their marks first and then trying to find the matching one. Really, he's quite content to be courted by Thorin, who has no mark at all. Kíli has no mark, either, until they come to Mirkwood, and things get needlessly complicated. Because of course elves do things yet another way, as though Bilbo didn't have enough of a headache already. Of course, there's also the ultimate question: how to tell about your pregnancy to a partner who is not only gold-mad, but also doesn't believe in the existence of illegitimate children? ----------- The One Who Wouldn't by Salvia_G https://archiveofourown.org/works/815005 Rating: Teen Length: 11,346 Warnings: Notes: Sweet soulmate tale with fiendishly particular Dwarven contracts and a lovely BAMF!Bilbo. Thorin is sweet as honey too (well, until they take the mountain of course), quite lovely all in all. Summary: If Adventures make you late for supper, Soulmates make for missing supper entirely. In Hobbit society peace and plenty is viewed as more valuable than passion and riches. Marriages are thought best when they're settled, warm affairs between friends. That's why Soulmate marks are thought of as a mark AGAINST a marriage-match... Dwarves on the other hand, view a soulmate as a blessing from Mahal. If a dwarrow is so lucky as to be born with a mark they spend their life searching for their One. No wealth or jewel is thought of greater value than a soulmate. So when Thorin and Bilbo meet and see each others marks?... ----------- Mountain Flowers by Chrononautical https://archiveofourown.org/works/17289008 Rating: Explicit Length: 5,490 Warnings: none Notes: Beautiful imagery in this lovely soulmark partial quest retelling. Summary: Bilbo knows his soulmate is a dwarf, so he joins the Quest for Erebor. Even if he doesn't meet his soulmate along the way, at least he will help that unknown dwarf return to a well deserved home. Still, it would be nice to meet his match. Dwarves, after all, are unexpectedly attractive. Particularly their king. -----------
How do you or would you headcannon Bilbo and Thorin accidentally proposing or getting engaged and how would they proceed when they find out or the other accepts the proposal?
I'm so sorry for not noticing this ask sooner, but thank you! I rarely check this blog since I mostly stay on my main blog. And tbh it's been sooo long since I've been invested the fandom, so I'm not sure this answer will be the best thing I've come up with. I'm gonna need a refresher on Hobbit/LotR lore after this 😅
Well, to me, an accidental bagginshield proposal would occur one of two ways:
1) let's say that in dwarven culture (headcanon), giving your intended a great gift like a family heirloom or something personalized, would be a form of proposal.
Thorin giving Bilbo the mithril mail could have been his proposal, and while the other dwarves and Gandalf understand the meaning, Bilbo doesn't and no one tells him bc to everyone it just seems obvious. Everyone starts treating him with the same regard that they do with Thorin, their leader, and Bilbo notices the change in demeanor and asks either Bofur, Balin, or even Gandalf about it and they're like "Mr. Baggins, didn't you know? Thorin proposed to you, you are his consort! Congrats on being the only one to get through his rock solid heart!" And then he says something like, "I'm sorry, what?! What do you mean I'm his consort?!" "Don't you remember, when Thorin gave you the mithril vest? In our culture, giving a fine gift like that to your intended is a proposal! And you accepted his gift, so you sealed the deal." And Bilbo tries to tell them that he didn't know, that this is a mistake. But when he's asked whether he would like to return the gift and end the proposal, he can't do it, he doesn't want to, so he just goes on with the knowledge that he's the King's consort. Thorin would be so pleased that now he can be touchy feely with Bilbo, and it wouldn't really be much of a change from what they were like before, but now everyone knows and accepts. (And if you want the angst feelings, the scene at the end where he tells Balin what he feels about Thorin after he dies hits harder.)
2) if Bilbo proposes: like I said, I need a refresher on the lore so if there's a canon explanation for a Hobbit form of proposal or anything, just excuse me and let's pretend.
So, hobbits really love food and simple living and comforts, right? But that's not really possible when they're on a long journey, so Bilbo has to make do with what he has. Maybe they're short on their food supplies one day, and Bilbo has some food from back home that he packed and it's wrapped in a nice package, and he was saving it for himself, but offers it to Thorin and Co. And we all know Hobbits love to eat, and they eat a lot, so a few rolls of bread is like a snack to them, whereas for others it's a full meal, so the dwarves think he has a feast and is enough to feed them all for the night. Bilbo unintentionally proposed to Thorin by giving him a gift of a homemade 'meal' in a nice package, as is the custom (headcanon), and for a moment Bilbo forgets about it and just feels good for providing his friends with some food. Later that night, Gandalf reminds him, teasing him, about his proposal and Bilbo blushes and coughs nervously, saying he didn't mean to, but luckily, neither Thorin nor the other dwarves know about it so he thinks he's safe. But, Kili and Fili, sneaky little guys, were eavesdropping on their 'private' conversation and rush to let Thorin and everyone know about the meaning of Bilbo's gesture. Thorin scolds them for being nosy and that they probably heard wrong anyway, but the next day Thorin asks Gandalf and he confirms. Thorin says nothing but now that he knows, he allows himself to get physically and emotionally closer to Bilbo and from there, they kinda just live as a couple and no one questions it, they're happy for them!
It's been so long, but this is bringing back my bagginshield feels from back in the day 🥰
Part 2: Chapter 20 -
Yer a wizard. Sorry, witch.
Minatory (Definition): Having a menacing quality; Threatening. (Adjective / Origin: Late Latin /ˈmɪnət(ə)ri )
Bag End, Hobbiton, The Shire – T.A. Friday, 18th November 2939 of the Third Age (Highday, 28th Blotmath, 1339 in Shire-reckoning)
“Annnd, there we go.” Kay huffed, both of us letting out a sigh of relief as we lowered a passed out Bilbo into his armchair. Lifting the blanket that was drying by the fire, I shook it out, before draping it over the unconscious hobbit, tucking it over his shoulders.
We both took a step back, waiting for him to wake up, when a fist impacted with my shoulder.
“OW!” I cried, bringing my hand up to rub at the spot. “The hell was that for?!”
Kay shoved a finger in my face, glaring up at me. “That – was for levitating me! Upside-down of all things!”
“It’s not like I wanted to! And I didn’t expect for it to actually work!”
All she did was grumble, crossing her arms as she stared at Bilbo.
“… You can do the same at one point in return?” I offered.
“Oh, I will be, just you wait.”
I sighed in exasperation, before focusing on the problem at hand.
“Should I make some tea? For when he wakes up.” I suggested.
“Yea, that’ll be nice. I’ll stay here in case he wakes up.” She replied.
I nodded, turning on my heel and wandering through to the kitchen. Hooking the kettle over the open fire, I prepared three mugs along with some tea leaves in a straining bag. Staring at the exposed bricks lining the fireplace, I let my mind wander as I tried to figure out what to say, my hands absentmindedly turning the mug as I listened to the kettle’s whistle grow louder.
Within 5 minutes I was done, and just in time, as I managed to walk back through just when Bilbo had begun to stir. Lowering the tray onto the small table by the fire, I knelt down in front of Bilbo’s chair, his steaming mug of chamomile in my hands.
His eyes flickered open, blinking rapidly as he tried to adjust to the low light. Spotting us, he gasped as he shot up, everything seemingly coming back to him.
I quickly shoved the mug towards him, and that managed to calm him down slightly as he settled back into his chair, bringing his hands from beneath the blanket to take the hot beverage from my hands.
Taking a small sip, he lowered the tea onto his lap, and took a deep breath.
“What,- in Yavanna’s name… where you doing!!?”
I gave him straight lined smile, clasping my hands together.
“That’s the thing.” I said, shrugging as my eyes focused on the fire. “We don’t know.”
He spluttered, his head jerking back in confusion and frustration. “Wh – d – don’t know?? What do you mean you don’t know??”
Kay shoved at my shoulder as she sat down on the floor next to me. “What Kate was meant to say,” She explained, deadpanning at me before turning to the poor hobbit. “Was that it was an accident, we were joking about something and she didn’t mean to send me floating into the ceiling.”
Bilbo frowned so hard that his eyes had scrunched shut, placing his mug on the table. “And what, pray tell, could you have possibly been joking about that made Kay levitate into the air.”
I nodded slowly as my eyes darted around in thought. “About sending her floating into the ceiling.” I stated, shrugging as if it was obvious.
Bilbo dropped his head into his hands with a loud groan of anguish, whilst Kay drew her lips between her teeth to try and hide her smile.
I fiddled with my fingers, watching as Bilbo’s head rose back up, dropping back onto the cushion of his armchair as he stared into space, his eye-bags looking more prominent than ever.
“Okay, just.. fetch one of your cakes, I need to eat something after all that.” He sighed, closing his eyes.
I quickly replied with an ‘ok’, getting to my feet and strolling over to the pantry, retrieving the cake, then to the kitchen to get three plates, forks and a knife.
Handing Bilbo his slice of cake, me and Kay sat down on the armchairs opposite, placing our own plates on our laps. Minutes passed where only the crackling of the fire and clinking of forks against plates could be heard. But it wasn’t long before Bilbo spoke up again.
“Do you really not know what’s going on?” He asked, tilting his head slightly as he looked over at us.
Kay shook her head. “This is just as new to us as it is to you. We’re trying to figure out why, but it’s been difficult.”
“I can imagine.” He replied. “If I started accidentally levitating things, I wouldn’t dare to show my face until I knew how to control it.”
“We have somewhat managed to control it, though” I added.
“Oh, I know that.” Bilbo reassured with a shake of his head. “Otherwise Kay would still be stuck to the ceiling.” He joked, much to Kay’s chagrin.
“You don’t need to worry about us, though.” I said, voice muffled by a mouthful of cake. “I know we’re ‘barely adults’ according to you, but we do have some idea of how to look after ourselves.”
Bilbo nodded. “I’m sure you can, but then again, you said yourselves that you don’t know how to navigate this world properly. I just want to make sure you’re both safe. The Shire is a very comfortable place to live, but once you step out its borders, I can guarantee you two wouldn’t last a day.” He stated, prodding his knee with his finger to emphasise each word.
Kay raised her hands in mock surrender, “You’ve got us there.” I pointed a finger at her in agreement whilst staring at the rug.
“But…” I raised my head to look at Kay as she spoke. “Could we possssibly go to the forest? To try and figure this all out??” Bilbo instantly deadpanned. “It saves us accidentally blowing a hole in your wall!”
He reeled back. “You can do that?!?!”
She nodded. “Well – I haven’t, exactly.” She straightened up, pointed a finger at me. “But Kate has!”
I whirled round, a betrayed look on my face. “Are you trying to rat me out?!”
“YOU BLEW A HOLE IN MY WALL?!?!” cried Bilbo.
“NO! I BLEW A TREE UP, NOT YOUR HOUSE!” I cried back.
“WHY WOULD YOU NEED TO BLOW UP A TREE!”
“I DIDN’T MEA – ugh, I can’t be asked with this.” I groaned, rubbing my face. “Look, I didn’t do it on purpose, it was in self de – no, right, I picked up a stick, and accidentally knocked it against something, which caused a spark to fly out the end and blow up a tree.”
The hobbit tossed his hands into the air. “And my day just keeps getting weirder and weirder.” He breathed a deep sigh. “Ok fine, you can go to the forest, BUT, I’m going with you.” Kay groaned from beside me. “No, none of that. The last time I let you both out on your own, you almost froze to death after going for a midnight swim, I’m not having that happen again.”
We both slumped in our chairs, nodding reluctantly. Satisfied, Bilbo nodded to himself, before standing from his chair and walking slowly to the door.
“Right, well – I’m off to bed. We can discuss this further over breakfast tomorrow.” He paused in the doorway, twisting around to look at us both. “And uh.. thank you,” He said, gesturing to the tea and blanket in his arms. “For taking care of me.”
We both nodded at him with a smile, Kay muttering a ‘You’re welcome’. He returned the expression, before disappearing into the hallway.
“Well, that went a lot better than I thought.” Said Kay, turning to retrieve her own tea.
My head jerked around instantly from where I was facing the fireplace, my face twisted in both confusion and offence. “Easy for you to say. I almost got kicked out because you made him think I was renovating his home!”
“Well that sounds like a you problem, doesn’t it?” She said over her shoulder as she walked towards the doorway.
I went to retort, but quickly noticed which direction she was going in. “NUH UH, don’t think I haven’t forgotten what I said earlier.”
Kay stopped, punching the air in frustration. She spun around, inching towards the doorway. “But it’s so pointless!” She whined. “And it disappears when you’re around anyway!”
I looked over my shoulder, squinting my eyes at her. “Are you saying ghost hunting’s pointless? I am both shocked and offended.” I mockingly turned my nose up at her, walking through the doorway to my room. “And about to sacrifice your Hello Kitty.”
Footsteps followed me instantly. “If you do I’m sacrificing Toothless.”
I paused, my hand on the doorknob to my room. Glaring over my shoulder, I pouted grumpily, before twisting the handle and stepping in. “Fine, I’ll smelt your jewellery down instead.”
I could practically feel Kay gape at me as she lightly punched my shoulder. She walked over and sat on my bed, watching as I rummaged through my drawers. “What are we doing in here anyway, I thought we were sleeping in my room?”
“That–” I grunted as I struggled to reach under a pile of stuff. “-is a good question – aha!” I pulled out my small wooden chest. “But I thought I would bring this to try and work out how to protect us.”
Kay sighed, crossing her arms as she looked up at me. “Okay, so, you know how to do that?”
“Of course.” I replied with a grin. “Protection spells are the first thing you should learn about as a practitioner. It’s witchcraft 101.”
I unhooked the clasps on the box, opening it up and picking something out and handing it to Kay. She took it in her hands looking at it confused. “The protection is a Christmas bauble?”
“It does look like one, but no, that’s a Rowan cross.” I explained, taking it out of her hands and lifting it up to the candlelight.
The object consisted of two dark twigs, specifically from a rowan tree, tied in a cross by some thick, woolly, red string that formed a diamond, with dried rowan berries glued to the centre of the shape. At the end of one the twigs was a red ribbon, tied so it could be hung up.
“They’re normally hung in doorways, to ward off negative energy and wrong-doers.” I gestured to my doorway, Kay turning to spot an identical cross hung on a nail on the wooden beam. “I did it the week I had the thing appear in my wardrobe, and luckily, it seems to be working.”
Kay turned back round, eyeing the cross in my hand, before quickly snatching it. “So I just hang this in my doorway and it’ll go away?”
“Maybe,” I said, uncertain. “It’s already activated, but I doubt it’ll be strong enough to get rid of it, so I want to see if it’ll upset it, so it can show itself and we can work out what it is for sure.”
Kay nodded, slinking off the bed to join me on the floor. “Okay then, show me what to do.”
I held up the cross. “We’ll start, by hanging this in your doorway.”
---
Loud knocking echoed through the hallway as I hammered the nail into the beam of wood above Kay’s doorway. Kay was deeper in the house, near Bilbo’s room, to check if he had been woken up by the noise. The final bang resounded through the still air, and she peeked one last time round the door, and saw the Hobbit remain in a deep sleep, much to her relief. Pulling the handle until she heard the door close with a soft click, she returned to watch me as I hung the cross, the almost-black branches contrasting strongly against the warm wood as it hung in the centre of the beam. Taking a step back, I nodded in satisfaction, walking over to the chest of drawers to put down the hammer we had nicked from Bilbo’s gardening tools, before turning to Kay.
“This will hopefully do something whilst we wait for the right moon phase to come round.” I said. “Or it’ll upset it and you end up being haunted for the rest of your life.”
“It better not,” Kay replied. “Otherwise you’ll be having a permanent roommate until it’s gone.”
Soon enough, the candles around the room were blown out, all except one, that currently sat on the vanity, its flickering casting the odd shadow here and there.
We both laid there under the covers in our nightgowns, Toothless and Hello Kitty in hand, glancing around diligently, looking for anything out of the ordinary. When almost an hour had passed by, we slowly settled down to the sound of the crickets outside, burrowing deeper into the covers as sleep threatened to take over. I had just closed my eyes for a minute, trying to rest them as faint colours danced behind my eyelids, when the crickets went quiet. Thinking Kay had gotten up to close the window, I pressed myself further under the covers. That was, until a hand shot out and latched onto my arm.
I jumped out of my skin, eyes shooting open, only to be met with darkness. It felt deathly cold, the candle had somehow gone out, and, what was hopefully Kay, was currently gripping onto me like a lifeline. Luckily, the curtains had drifted apart from the wind slightly, and the glow of the waning crescent in the sky shone through the cracks. Thin wisps of smoke from the extinguished candle floated in front of where I was laid on my side, facing the wall. Following it to try and spot the candle, my eyes moved across the room, when they flicked into a corner. I would’ve missed it completely, if it weren’t for the rattling breath it let out.
It just stood there, looking half solid but casting no shadows, it’s long thin arms held straight up in the air as it stared with deep hollow sockets and a gaping mouth hanging open wide enough for me to almost fit my head into. It had no teeth, no eyebrows or hair, just dark, grey, dusty skin. All it did was stand there. And stare. And I couldn’t move.
All I could do was stare back.
It felt like hours as I sat there half-laid on my elbow, feeling the ache settle into the joint but unable to move. It wasn’t moving either, not even one of its long, sharp-looking fingers twitching as it held its appendages up as if it had been stretched up with invisible chains.
Kay wasn’t moving either, but was shaking profusely, her hand imprinting into my skin as she gripped onto me like a vice. I wasn’t any better, the thing in front of me making all my paranormal experiences from my childhood seem like a joke.
It wasn’t until Kay’s nails dug in that I moved, keeping my eyes locked onto the ghostly creature as I reached behind me, and gritting my teeth, dragged the pillow from behind. As soon as I felt Kay’s hand release my arm, I shot up and launched it as hard as I could at its face. The pillow soared through the air, and within a second, the creature had vanished into thin air, the candle on the vanity flickering back to life before the pillow even hit the wall.
It dropped to the floor with a muffled thump as light enveloped the room once again, and we both sat there, staring at the corner with wide, terrified eyes. A creak sounded from within the house’s structure, snapping us out of the trance as warmth swept back in.
“I don’t think the cross worked.” Kay whispered shakily.
“… Let’s go sleep in my room.”
--
The Next Day
Silence was all that could be heard, except for the clinking and scraping of utensils against plates and bowls. Kay and I sat slumped at the kitchen table, deep bags under our bloodshot eyes as we squinted at our half-eaten breakfasts.
Bilbo was quite the opposite, looking as chipper as ever after a full nights-sleep as he finished the last few mouthfuls of his meal with a satisfied huff. Untucking the napkin from the collar of his night-shirt, he placed it on the table, looking between us with a smile.
I tried my best to hide a wide yawn behind my hand whilst placing my fork down, unable to finish the meal, when he piped up.
“So, who fancies going down to the market today? I heard there’s a new flower stall being set up.”
All I could do was push my plate away, dropping my head down onto the table with a loud ‘thunk’. Kay wasn’t any better, her head tilted back as she slowly fell asleep in her chair.
The hobbit let out a sigh. “Couldn’t sleep?”
All he got was a groan in response.
Bag End, Hobbiton, The Shire – T.A. Friday, 23rd November 2939 of the Third Age (Hevensday, 3rd Foreyule, 1339 in Shire-reckoning)
“Bilbo, are you sure you want to go with us?”
Kay and I sat on the rug by the front door, wrapped up in several layers of winter-wear – gloves, shawls, knitted scarves and all. We were preparing to leave for the forest, determined to figure out our wands in a safe environment, said objects hidden in our deep skirt pockets. Earlier, as we were sat lacing up our boots, a shivering Bilbo had walked through the door, ingredients for dinner in his bag. Within a second he had demanded to go with us, refusing to budge and reminding us of the agreement from five days ago. Which led to now.
“Yes, I’m perfectly sure!” he grunted from where his head resided in the large chest down the hallway, looking for his scarf. “We made an agreement, and even if we didn’t, I’m certainly not leaving you two to wander into the fog when the clouds have been threatening to snow all week!” He stormed past us, flinging the scarf around his neck, simultaneously hitting me in the face with it from where I was sat, sending Kay into a fit of laughter as I spluttered about. Swinging the door open to reveal the foggy evening scene outside, he gestured expectantly. “Hurry now, it’ll be getting dark in a couple hours.”
Grabbing the leather messenger bag containing my Grimoire and a few other materials, we were ushered out. The freezing chill hit us almost immediately, like Jack Frost had decided to practice acupuncture with a thousand ice needles. Twisting my scarf, I pulled part of it over my head whilst bunching the rest around my chin until it reached my nose.
Walking down, the two of us stood by Bilbo’s front gate, waiting as he struck a match, lighting the same lantern he had used when he found us in his bushes, bringing forth a flurry of those not-so-great memories. Stuffing the matchbox in his pocket, he pulled the door closed, before following the short path down to us.
Reaching us, he held an arm out, gesturing down the path. “Alright,” he said, his voice muffled by the scarf. “I don’t know where you guys want to go, so lead the way.”
Kay looked at me expectantly, and so, I begun to retrace the steps I had taken that eventful night.
---
The sun had already begun to set when we arrived, and I noted that the forest looked at lot less intimidating during the daylight hours. Rounding a relatively dense pack of bushes, I came across a very familiar sight.
Rotting splinters of bark and branches littered the ground, along with the fallen half of the tree, now slowly being covered with moss and rotting leaves that had fallen in the last few weeks of Autumn. Memories from what happened a month ago came flowing back, and I grimaced when my eyes finally landed on the jagged stump, sticking out the ground like a giant clawed hand with a hundred sharp fingers.
I turned to face the others, gesturing with my hands in a half shrug. “Well this is where it happened.”
Kay stared at the stump with wide eyes. “Ok, I’ll admit I was exaggerating when I said you blew it up. I didn’t think you actually did.”
Bilbo was silent. His eyes were practically bulging out of his head as he gawked at the scene in front of him. “How?” Was all he could utter, the whisper barely heard over the chatter of the forest.
“That’s exactly what I’ve been asking myself this whole time.” I said equally confused, wandering over to another familiar tree. “I found my wand, and was making my way back, when I turned around, knocking it against this tree.” I acted it out, pretending to hit something against the tree, my hand lining up with a very obvious burn mark embedded onto the bark, like someone had set off a firework in close proximity next to it. “Then - ” My hand pointed from the burn, over to the broken stump. “Voila, tree bomb.”
“Bomb?” Bilbo said perplexed.
“Think firework, but with a bigger explosion, and use it as a weapon.” Explained Kay from beside him.
All the poor hobbit could do was look up at her in horror, before looking between us both warily. “And – And that thing, can create something like that?”
I nodded. “But only if you choose to. This was a complete accident.”
Bilbo nodded silently, looking as if he was going to faint again. But he suddenly seemed to calm down, fiddling with his fingers whilst peering up at me apprehensively.
“Do you… think you could do it again? But smaller?”
Both of our mouths fell open in shock, before I let out a guffaw.
“Bilbo Baggins! Are you secretly rebellious?!” I gasped out.
His ears flushed a deep red. “No! I – I just-” He dropped his head bashfully. “This all just reminds me of when I was younger, and of Gandalf and his fireworks.”
“Mhm sure.” Said Kay, putting her hands on her hips as she looked down at the pouting hobbit. “Well we’re not going to blow up another poor tree, but we could show you something else? I’ve been meaning to try out my wand for ages now.” She reached into her skirt pocket, pulling it out.
I pulled out mine, weighing it in my hand as I thought of what to do next. “Can you think of any spells for wands?” I asked Kay as I walked over.
She shrugged. “Only the ones we wrote down from you-know-what. It worked the other day.”
I tilted my head in confusion. “You-know-what?”
“You know, the story about magic from our place that we can’t talk about because we get strangled by air?” She replied.
I nodded in realisation, then my eyes moved about in thought, before I slowly turned my head to a small pile of dead leaves nearby. Kay darted her eyes at me, following my line of sight before they landed on where I was looking.
“What are you thinking – ?”
I lifted my arm up and pointed my wand. “Incendio.”
“Absolutely not.” The pile of leaves burst into flame. “KATE FOR FUCKS SAKE.”
She stormed over to the pile, stamping on it until all that was left was a pile of blackened smouldering leaves. “Being a borderline pyromaniac does not give you an excuse to set everything on fire!”
All I did was smile impishly in response, hiding my wand behind my back. “Now you try.”
Kay huffed, pointing her own wand whilst thinking about her next move. I skipped over to Bilbo, who seemed like he was struggling to keep himself upright.
“You okay? We sorta forgot about you for a second there.” I said softly, crouching down to be more eye-level with him.
He blinked, seemingly snapping himself out of something. “O-oh, yes! It’s just not every day you gets involved in something as interesting as this.”
He gestured to my wand with a far-away look, and at that moment, he looked almost smaller, burying the lower half of his face into the thick scarf wrapped around his neck as he stared. Though in a flash he was shaking his head. “But you two have something you need to do, right?”
I blinked at his sudden mood-swing, but quickly let it go. “Oh, yes, we do.”
I reached to my hip, swivelling the messenger bag to the front of my body and flipping it open. Grabbing my Grimoire out of one of the pockets, I flipped through the pages as Bilbo tilted his head to try and read the words from his angle. Finally landing on a page, I came across an old envelope I had stuck in. Lifting the flap, I pulled out a piece of lined paper, torn from Kay’s notebook days earlier containing the list of spells we had tried to recall. It seemed silly, that spells from a book series would work, but they did, and we weren’t complaining.
Unfolding and smoothing the thin sheet out, I scoured the list, noting down the ‘safe’ spells we had circled. Whilst Bilbo looked over my shoulder at the paper, I called out to Kay. “Alright! I guess we’ll start you out with the easiest first spell.” Scouring the area, my eyes landed on a small log and I pointed at it. “Try levitating that log.”
Kay took a stance, before taking a deep breath, setting her stern eyes on the log. Reaching her wand out, she waved it with a swish and a flick, muttering the charm under her breath. Soon enough, the log began to rise, fallen leaves sliding off and floating to the ground as it hovered in the air.
Kay screamed in excitement, throwing her hands in the air as she beamed at her accomplishment. She whirled around to face us, the log dropping to the ground with a thud as she did. “Did you see that?!?!” she squealed, jumping on the spot as her hands cupped her face in shock.
I nodded enthusiastically, whilst Bilbo simply gawked at the now unmoving log.
“Tha – how? How did yo – That was incredible!” he gasped.
Kay nodded dramatically, her copper hair flopping over her face as she did. She quickly beckoned me over, and I handed the list to Bilbo.
“I don’t suppose you could read out the circled ones?” I said, pointing at the words. He looked up, nodding with a nervous smile.
Thanking him, I brought him with me to stand between me and Kay. Raising my wand, I tried out the levitating spell, watching in excitement as the log rose once again, before slowly lowering down. Then me and Kay both raised our wands, waiting for Bilbo to read out the first spell.
“Okay, so Ag – oh Yavanna what in Middle Earth does that say?? Ag – Aguam – A-goo-ah… men..tee??”
“Aguamenti?” Kay suggested.
“Yes, that!” He replied.
“Ok,” I said. “let’s do that one.”
Pointing our wands ahead, we both said the charm. It didn’t work at first, which was expected, but Kay managed hers on the second try, water shooting out like a jet and giving the bush several metres away a shower. I managed on my third try, but we both found it difficult to get it to stop, but after pulling our wands away while visualising the intention of stopping, it worked.
Turning to Bilbo, we both waited patiently for the next challenge. Drawing his attention away from the large puddle we had created in front of him, he scoured the list.
“Right, well erm…”
---
The spell trial went almost perfectly, the log now lost amongst the bushes after I’d flung my wand about too hard and sent it flying. Some spells had been easy to do, the two of us managing them after the second or third try, but, as expected, the more complex ones took longer, taking up to twenty tries at certain points, and some were straight up impossible to do.
After realising that not all of them could be done, we tried our best to improve the basic ones as much as we could. I exceeded with the fire spell, pointing my wand around and setting random leaves and dead bushes on fire, whilst Kay was more skilled with water, following me around as she shot at each fire I set, putting them out before they grew, and also threatening to shoot me in the face if I carried on.
--
Darkness was already setting in as we decided to head back, the couple hours if spellcasting draining us more than we expected. Bilbo held out his lantern, watching as I excitedly lit it with a spell, and we began our trek back.
We had travelled back about a quarter of the way, when Kay caught up with me.
“Hey, I don’t suppose we could go to the lake?” She asked, and I faced her with a curious look. “ I want to visit where I found my wand, and see if I can figure out what happened to me.”
I nodded, and looked to Bilbo who was ahead lighting the way. “Hey Bilbo?” I called out, receiving a humin response. “Could we quickly pop to the lake? We just wanna check something out real quick.”
He let out a sigh, but reluctantly gave in. “Fine, but we must be no longer than ten minutes. I want to make it back to make dinner on time.”
Thanking him, we sped up, speed-walking until we hit the main path, taking a few detours that would take us the long way to Bilbo’s house, that would also pass the lake.
By the time we got there, it was already dark, the sun setting earlier in the deep winter months. Approaching the black water, it had already began to re-freeze, new ice expanding from the half melted sheets from last night, one that was so cold, the three of us took shifts waking up to add wood and stoke the fires around the house all night.
Frosty reeds swayed in the icy wind, the breeze biting at our exposed skin more than ever as we peered into the rippling depths of the lake.
“Girl I am glad I didn’t have to drag you out in this weather.” I mumbled to Kay, keeping out of earshot of the hobbit who was currently stood on the path part-ways up a bank, about ten metres away.
“I am too. Neither of us would’ve survived that night if it was like this.” She replied with a shiver.
“Do you remember anything that happened between you leaving and waking up?” I questioned.
Kay was quiet for a moment. “…Not really, I remember what I had already told you, but everything after that had gone black, like I was back in that void we ended up in, on the bridge back in our world.” She paused. “Actually, it’s not much, but there were a couple times when I could feel myself try to wake up, once when I was stood at the edge, and the other when I was at the bottom of the lake. But it was all blurry, like someone was holding up a TV covered in frosted glass on the other side of a room I couldn’t reach.”
“Are you two going to take long?” Bilbo called over the wind, holding his lantern up higher for us to see better. “We do really need to get back.”
I gave him a thumbs up, turning back to the water as I stepped onto the familiar small pebble beach, standing just where the miniscule waves lapped at the tips of my boots. Kay soon joined me, trying to look beneath the surface with the limited light.
“I don’t think we’re going to find anything tonight.” She sighed, dejectedly. “Actually, I don’t think we’ll be finding anything for a while, because I’d rather eat a mouthful of raw chicken covered in dog sick than swim outside in December. Or January. Or February, for that matter.”
“I agree.” I mumbled back, side-eying the frozen death-trap in front of us. “Let’s just go back and stick our hands and feet into the nearest fire. We can figure this out another time.”
I went to turn back, when Kay shot out her hand to latch onto my arm for what felt like the hundredth time.
“Do you have a personal vendetta against this arm or something?” I poked, facing her. “At this point we don’t need matching tattoos cuz your handprint will do just that.”
All she did was slap at my shoulder, silencing me whilst refusing to look my way as she reached out to point across the water.
“What? – ” Another slap. I quickly quietened down and squinted at the darkness in front of me. Though I didn’t have to look for long.
Looking across, the bank at the opposite end of the lake would’ve been lost in darkness, if it weren’t for the large blue shape glowing from where it sat in the grass.
I instantly felt fear pierce down my spine as recognition hit me in the chest, but confusion wormed its way in as I took a closer look at the shape. No wings, or legs, just one long body, and amongst the coil of scales, a head covered in a multitude of bony and sharp-looking spines.
A snake.
And – excuse my language – a real fucking big one at that.
Like, thirty, fourty feet long?? And body thick enough for me to not even wrap my arms around it! And from beside me, I heard Kay whisper out one word.
“Basilisk.”
I slowly began to back away. “Yea, Basilet’s get the fuck out of here.” I hissed, tugging at her arm.
Luckily, it hadn’t seen us, the light of Bilbo’s lantern blending in with the street lanterns that flickered up in the hills, and said hobbit was not noticing a thing, too busy staring up at the stars as he waited.
The pebble beach rose slightly at the end where it met the grass, so I tried my best to take a huge step up it as silently as I could. Kay went to do the same, but was still staring behind her at the snake, and her foot didn’t go as high, scraping against the small bank, causing some pebbles to dislodge, their noise carrying across the water as they fell.
We both froze, tensing at the sound, stock still as we waited for the last pebble to finish its journey down. When it was silent again, we both slowly turned to see if it had heard us. It hadn’t, and it carried on hunting for something in the tall grass.
We both let out a sigh of relief, most of the tension leaving our body as we silently began making our way over to Bilbo.
The hobbit was still staring at the night sky, his hand raised as his finger absentmindedly pointed up and moved about slightly, most likely trying to make out the constellations. He slowly turned on the spot, not seeing the wooden fence post next to him, and the lantern collided against it, letting out a loud ‘clank’ that echoed through the crisp air.
The snake’s head shot up, detecting the soundwaves. Flicking it’s tongue out, it scoured the area for only a moment, before its slitted eyes were on us. Bearing its glowing orbs into ours, the three of us had a staring match for the next few seconds. I blinked, and in a flash, it lowered its head. I blinked again, and it was already sliding into the water. Directly towards us.
“Ok, we’ve got to go.” I stated shakily, and shot my hand out to grab Kay, hauling her forward, and the both of us began sprinting.
Clambering up the hill, my hands dug into the mud and gripped onto slippery grass blades until we reached the path, where I reached my arm around the waist of an unsuspecting Bilbo. He let out a yelp as I snatched him up, almost dropping the lantern in his hands.
“What. Are. You. Doing????” He strained out as his arms and legs jumped up and down with each step.
“Just uhhh – ” I heaved between breaths. “Me and Kay decided to race back?? Didn’t want to leave you behind.”
“Well at least give me a warning next time??” He scolded, and I gave him a nod in reply, before speeding up as much as I could with the extra weight.
Up and up the winding paths we ran, skipping some as we jumped and scrambled up the banks between to try and make short-cuts. At this point the snake had crossed the lake, breaking the water without a ripple as it slithered up the banks, gaining speed with every second.
I slipped on the icy ground over and over as we sped up the path, my panic causing my clumsiness to increase tenfold, and only having my non-dominant arm free didn’t help. To our luck, we rounded the corner, losing sight of the creature, but not losing sound as a guttural hiss pierced the air.
“What was that?” Bilbo demanded, his own nerves starting to settle in as he tried to twist in my arms to look behind.
“No clue.” Kay quickly replied from just behind me, the noise motivating her to speed up even more, her hand pressing against the back of my shoulder blades as she helped usher me along.
“Uhh, I think you do?” he jabbed back.
“We don’t have time for this, cmon!” Kay pushed, exasperated at Bilbo, who only replied with an arched brow.
The warm light from Bilbo’s windows soon appeared, and we pushed the last bits of adrenaline to get us up the garden path and slam against the circular door, swinging it open and crashing onto the floor in the doorway.
The moment didn’t last though, as I was up in a flash and hauling the door shut, pressing my back against it. Flailing my hand out, I beckoned for Kay to come over.
She did, joining me by the small circle window next to the door, the two of us trying to peer through the pieces of paned glass into the darkness outside.
We both stilled as our sights set on the blue glow that grew brighter and brighter on the left, and it wasn’t long before a large head came into view, the snake’s entire body lowered to the ground as it slowly slid silently along the path in front of Bilbo’s fence.
It slowed as it neared the gate, and the two of us lowered ourselves until our eyes were just peeking over the top, thankful that the entrance hall wasn’t lit as we hid in the darkness of the house.
I caught movement in the corner of my eye, and peered to the left, only to see Bilbo stood at the opposite window, frozen with wide eyes as he stared out at the creature. Panic shot through me, as I realised his face was on full view in the window. And it seemed Kay had realised the same thing.
“Bilbo!!” she hissed as quietly as she could. The hobbit darted his head towards her, face full of fright. She waved her hand up and down, gesturing for him to lower himself from the window. “Get down!”
He did so, taking one last look at the creature before he darted down out of sight. I kept an eye on the window, watching the snake as it took one last look around, apparently deciding to call it a day, and turned, just like the winged creature had done with me, returning back down the hill, twisting and slithering until it disappeared over the edge and out of sight.
I let out a sigh of relief, slumping against the wall as I slid to the floor.
“Whuh – What??” Poor Bilbo was now hyperventilating, his mouth gaping open and shut as he tried to stammer out the words that caught in his throat.
Kay stood up, walking over and offering a hand, only to be met with Bilbo raising his hand to stop her. She did so, and we both watched as he quickly calmed his breathing, easing himself onto his feet. Bending over slightly with his hands on his hips, he took a few calming breaths, furrowing his brows as he blinked rapidly.
Kay went to open her mouth, only getting a sound out when Bilbo’s hand shot out again.
“No, no. I’ve seen quite enough.” He stated, looking up at the both of us sternly. I felt dread settle in my stomach as I watched a flurry of emotions cross the hobbits face. “I was quite happy with the magic, but this – this.” He gestured at the door with a flop of his arm. “I just – I’m going to bed.” He rubbed his hand across his face tiredly as he made his way down the hallway. “Goodnight.” He rounded the corner, leaving us in the entrance hall.
All we did was stare frozen at the door he left through, and I could feel my hands start to twist in my lap. A hand tapped my shoulder, and I looked up to Kay stood over me.
“C’mon,” she mumbled. “We need to go to bed too. We can worry about him in the morning.”
I nodded silently, feeling more unease settle in about the possibilities of tomorrow, praying to whatever Deity I had ever given offerings to that the worst wouldn’t happen. Getting to my feet, I slipped off my shoes and outer layer of winter wear, and trailed after Kay.
--
I didn’t get out of bed the next morning, too anxious to face the hobbit, fearing the worst outcome, which was us becoming homeless.
Kay wasn’t any better, having got up before the sun even rose to make us tea, disappearing back to my room before Bilbo could even stir. We were now both sat on the wide window ledge, cushions behind our backs, as we stared over the bushes of Bilbo’s garden and out across the rolling hills in the distance, listening to the morning birdsongs that floated through the blanket of mist that coated the ground, and drifted between the open windows along with the chill. We remained like that until lunchtime, wrapped in blankets and talking quietly, until there was a knock at my door.
The two of us turned our heads to face Bilbo as he stuck his head around the door, his eyes darting around slightly as he barely made eye-contact. We both waited silently, too nervous to speak.
Seeing that we weren’t going to talk first, Bilbo took a deep sigh, and stepped into the room, one hand still on the door.
“Look, I –” he began, rubbing his forehead. “I know last night I was… frustrated, but I know what I saw wasn’t your fault. It’s just that – it’s just, I feel like there’s always something going on with you two, and don’t get me wrong! What happens is harmless most of the time! But there have been points where my mind just…” he took a deep breath. “All of this overwhelms me, and I just want to know that you’re safe, I’m safe, along with everyone else. Because if this home ends up becoming dangerous, I don’t know if I can keep on pretending it’s all fine. Do you two understand what I’m saying?”
We both gave silent nods in reply, solemn looks on all of our faces as we absorbed his words.
“Now don’t you two go thinking that I’m blaming you for any of this.” He said, giving us a pointed look. “And it’s not like I haven’t enjoyed getting to know you both, and the trail of crazy things you’ve left behind since the moment you got here.” He gave a smile, walking over to where we were at the window. “Just tell me next time something like this happens, because I know you’re as clueless as I am about all this, if your research in those books you brought say anything.”
We both faced him fully, confusion on our faces.
“Wait, you’ve read my books??” I questioned.
He rocked back and forth on his heels, raising his eyebrows and nodding. “I’m very good at cleaning, I’ll have you know.” He lectured, waving a finger at me. “And you’re not very good at tidying your books away.”
I sighed at myself, a sheepish look on my face.
“The two of you are dealing with things completely unheard of in Middle Earth, from my knowledge anyway, Yavanna knows what someone like Gandalf has seen in his lifetime.” He mumbled to himself. “So this won’t be your eviction notice, for now.” He paused as he gave us a look, until a smile slowly rose onto his face. “Now up! You’ve missed breakfast, second breakfast, and elevensies, and at this point, you’ll be missing luncheon! How you two haven’t turned to skeletons yet is beyond me.” He nagged as he pattered away to the kitchen. A pause went by. “I know you two haven’t moved yet!” he called out, sending us into a frenzy as we chucked our blankets off and sped-walked after him.
--
Bilbo made sure to make a hearty luncheon, filled with pork pie, scotch eggs, tomato soup and vegetables to snack on. Most of it was spent chattering on about local events, and the latest gossip. At one point it was even interrupted by Erard ringing the bell, which caused me to shoot out of my seat to check if Bilbo hadn’t accidentally eaten the batch of cupcakes I had made for the doctor, much to the disgruntled mumbling that he ‘would never do such a thing’.
The meal was finished off with a slice of poppy seed cake, and as we were washing up, Bilbo turned to me, asking if he could discuss last night’s events with us.
“I thought we had already done that?” I asked, confused.
“Yes, but..” Bilbo trailed off in thought as he swept up the last of the crumbs on the table. “during my.. ‘accidental snooping’, I came across some methods for um.. spiritual protection, was it?”
I nodded slowly, choosing to forget that he had sneaked a look at my stuff. “Mhm, what did you want to know?”
We all sat down at the now clean table as he continued speaking. “I couldn’t help but wonder about how you’re going to.. deal with that-” he jabbed a finger at the window. “-thing. Considering you both ran from it, I’m taking a guess that it isn’t friendly.”
“Things.” Kay said quickly.
He blinked in confusion. “Excuse me?”
“Things.” She repeated nervously. “There’s two of them.”
The poor hobbit’s frown lines deepened on the spot, his eyebags seemingly darkening as he slowly dragged a hand across his face.
“Remind me to never take what I see as the whole thing with you two.” He groaned from behind his hand. “Or I’ll be in an early grave by the time I’m sixty at this point.”
“C’mon Bilbo.” I jived as I leaned back in my chair. “We wouldn’t let that happen to you.”
“I starting to find that hard to believe.” He sighed in response, staring at the window with tired eyes.
“Anyway,” Kay started, quickly moving the conversation on. “I’m guessing you want to know if were able to stop it.”
He nodded. “Get rid of them, even. I’m relatively okay with what’s going on, considering I’ve been expecting crazy things the moment I dragged you both in, but if anyone around us got any idea that two humans from… elsewhere, were causing a noticeable disturbance, they wouldn’t be so lenient. I mean, you saw how everyone was in the first few months, including myself!”
I grimaced. “Yea, getting twice as many stares and whispers as we did is definitely not on the agenda.”
“Don’t even get me started on my reputation in town!” he blurted. “I’d be the source of rumours until the day I die, I tell you!” he quickly realised his words. “U-Uh not that it matters more! Anyway! Anyway, what I was saying before.” He flapped his hands around as if the brush away his last comment. “I saw something hanging above Kay’s doorway, and uh..” he pointed his finger in the direction of Kay’s room slightly, eyes flitting hesitantly between us and the doorway. “I was wondering what that was?”
“Oh! That’s a.. rowan cross?” Kay answered, eyeing me for confirmation, to which I nodded.
Bilbo nodded, almost sighing in relief.
“What?” I prodded playfully. “Did you think it was a Satan symbol or something?”
He scrunched his face in confusion. “What’s a Satan?”
“Uh… nevermind.” I said, dropping the subject before we instilled more fear into him. “The Rowan Cross just works as a ward for nasty spirits and people, but it won’t work against those things forever, until we figure out what they are, and I don’t think we ever will, unless we can find someone who can help us or give us some ideas.”
Kay perked up slightly. “Like Gandalf?”
I nodded, rubbing my lip in thought. “He could probably help, but it’s not like we know where he is.”
Kay slumped in her chair with a huff at the reality, until a thought came to her mind. “We could… wait to see if he shows up?” she suggested, with a hardly detectable tone of ‘You know what I’m talking about, right?’. I gave her a subtle look of realisation.
“I guess.” I said as ideas came to mind. “And we could improve our skills in the meantime? See if the use of magic can draw him to us somehow?”
Kay nodded in excitement, whilst Bilbo sat trying to decipher the conversation.
“Wait what?” he said in confusion. “You want to wait until Gandalf comes here? How do you know he will?”
“No idea.” Said Kay with a shrug. “But it’s our best shot without wandering into the wilderness and straight up dying.”
“In the meantime..” I piped up as the two turned to me. “I don’t suppose at some point during the next few months, we could take a trip to Bree?”
That Summer Love chapter 2 (Thorin x reader )
Summary: The Hobbit AU Reader broke up with Richard Armitage. She is sad, but it was the best choice for them. She went to a summer trip with her bestfriend Tauriel, to forget, relax, and to heal. She doesn't want a serious relationship far away from her home, but a cool singer sweeps her off form her feets and she needs to rethink her whole life and choose, how to live and love.
Pairings: Reader x Richard Armitage, Reader x Thorin, Tauriel x Kili
---------
On the second day I woke up too early, Tauriel was still asleep, so I changed my cothes and went to the hall, where Dis cleaned alone.
’’Can I help you?’’ I asked with a smile on my face. She was hard-working and gently. She helped to us a lot and asked if we need anything. And I don’t saw her to make a little rest.
’’No, Dear. Just rest, this is your holiday, but we can talk, I’m a little bored” She pointed to the big boxes. I nodded and helped her with the directions, because those boxes were like really big and heavy ’’Did you have fun last night?’’
’’Yes’’ my eyes gleamed ’’Durin’s Sons were far more the best, especially the singer. His voice is amazing and his charisma…’’
I wanted to finish what I began to say, but a familiar face stepped into the hall and I froze. It was the singer. He wore red tunic and black pants. My heart began to beat faster and my body wanted him. No way…a man…I never spoke with him and my body reacted to him, like a bee to a flower. I blushed and tried to cover my face.
’’Good Morning’’ he walked next to Dis ’’I have to go do to some business, but I will hurry’’ and with that he went out and left on his motorcycle. I felt his manly scent, pinetree with a little bit of lavender.
The woman giggled.
’’He is my brother, Thorin. And single’’ said happily ’’The guitarist and the drummer are my children’’ her voice became proud’’ Kili and Fili, they don’t have girlfriends too. What about you?”
’’Single, and Tauriel too. I had a not-so-good relationship with a guy, but we broke up. I tought I loved him, but I’m happier without Richard’’
’’Maybe you will fond your One here” she stroked my shoulder.
I nodded. i wanted to believe in love and soulmates, but at this moment, it was hard. Maybe the reason why I reacted to Thorin, because I was lonely and he was my type. We chatted a little bit more about school and the hotel and i went to the hotel’s private beach to watch the lake. It was calm and beutiful blue, like th singer’s eyes. I shoke my head. Maybe he is single, but a lot of girls wanted him. He was that type of guy, who can find women on his fingers easily.
’’Hi, can I sit here?”pointed next to me Kili. I nodded and he smiled ’’Btw. I’m Kili, I saw you with your beautiful friend on the live’’
’’I’m Y.N.. Nice to meet you, and my gorgeous friend is Tauriel’’
He understood that I know. Kili liked my friend and he tried to collect information about her. Tauriel was my BFF. We did almost everything together and we helped eachother a lot. She lived with her stepdad, Thranduil, and with her stepbrother, Legolas. Thranduil was the most scariest people I have ever known, he was harsh and always power-hungry. Legolas were kind, wayward and has a crush on her, but Tauriel don’t wanted him.
’’Did you liked the concert?’’ he tried to talk friends with me.
’’Yes” I smiled ’’Your uncle has the most beautiful voice, and you two, with you brother, are talented’’
’’Thank you. Durin’s Sons is just a project in the summer seasons. I really love it, but the Durin Group need us too. What about you?”
I heard about Durin Group. Its the second biggest company in the country. At that moment I understood. They worked on it, probably family members tot he owner, so they have to worked a lot, and the sumer meant relax to them, when they did what they wanted. That’s the business Thorin talked about in the morning.
’’Me and Tauriel are unversity students, we are history bechelors. She likes Middle Earth’’
He nodded and wrote to a paper. Kili clearly has deep feelings about my friend. We never talked about our ideal types. Tauriel had a few dates, but nothing serious, probably she waited to someone special.
’’My mom said you two are single’’
’’thats correct’’ I nodded.
’’We will do a little rehearsal with uncle, stay and listen”
We talked a lot about everything, when Thorin sat next to him with a guitar in his hands. He was a little cold and shy, probably because he didn’t know me.
’’Hello, I’m Thorin” he watched me with curious eyes and I almost melted.
’’She is my friend, Y.N.’’ Kili just smiled on my reaction, but I blushed again.
He will thinks I’m an idiot, if I don’t react normally, so I coughed.
’’Nice to meet you’’
Thorin nodded. Kili grabbed his instrument too and they began to play. I closed my eyes and I listened the music. It was good too, even without the drums, it was calm and peaceful. I’d listen their music forever, especially Thorin’s voice. The lyrics hit me in my heart, especially the one about the pain when you lost yourself, but you need to fight to your deams, because your loved ones stood beside you. The other was about a relationship, where the girl cheated the man, and his heart shattered into pieces. Sometimes I felt the same about Richard. He didn’t cheat me, but my heart was not okay. I felt with the song and I began to cry. They stopped the music and Kili hugged me. i was ashamed, because I barely know them and yet they saw my not so beautiful weak side, where my tears fall for a guy, who has never really loved me. I needed to forgot him and our memories.
’’Its okay’’ whispered Kili ’’I don’t know what happend with that man, but you deserve the best’’
’’Thank you and sorry’’ I wiped my tears ’’I will be okay with time’’ I smiled painfully.
Thorin nodded and gave me a paper tissue. He stared into the distance to the water and far away and I felt the rge to hug him, buti f I do, he will thinks I’m a creep, so stayed in my place and tried to pull myself together.
Lotr character hc's, GO!
You have given me too much power....
*pulls out my 50 page google doc*
warning: These are my less serious list, and are completely random but I think these are the most entertaining :D
-before the quest, sam would leave flowers at Frodo's door and he never knew who it was so he would press them in a book. He only found out after the quest and he used a few pages of the flower book into the red book of the westmarch
-Aragorn likes to collect rocks when he was a kid to show eleond and he was always like "Thats nice awww" and all that. He is 87 and he still does this.
-Arwen is a split image of her ancestor luthien, but Elrond says that she looks a lot like maglor with her hair.
- The children of the shire would play pretend with Bilbo's adventure, often led by Frodo and the tooks. Sam was old enough to start playing with them before they grew too old, and Frodo let him play Thorin one time, and him as course as Bilbo. This memory sticks with Sam too this day.
-Boromir is Aromantic
-Pippin convinced boromir to wear a skirt with him (It was Legolas's skirt) and he did not admit that he actually liked it.
-Pippin wears more fem clothing which really confused Denethor
-Legolas and Gimli eloped on the quest (Aragorn was their officiator)
-Eowyn starts a program in Rohan where she teaches young girl to sword fight & protect themselves.
-Frodo is a good artist and used to draw portraits of Sam, Pippin and Merry. After the quest, he stopped drawing people and focused on sketching out the landscapes that they passed by on the journey. Yet they were always creepy, and slightly distorted in an uncanny way. Elanor finds his old sketchbook one time and gets nightmares of weeks after.
-Arwen taught Eowyn how to embroider tapestries
-Frodo would love to climb the oak tree that bilbo grew in his garden. he never knew where it came from...
-Boromir and Aragorn would argue on who would give the hobbits piggy back rides
-Legolas is rebellious by mirkwood elven standards because he refuses to drink. It causes quite a scandal that thrandruil, the king and biggest drinker, has a child that does not even want to get even a little typsy.
-Bilbo would tell merry and pippin how to do pranks because it reminded him of fili and kili-
-Legolas is nonbinary and uses (they/he) pronouns
-Merry had a big crush on Eowyn, and never knew that the feeling were mutual
-Aragorn talks to trees because he is a gremelin, while legolas actually speaks the languages of the trees. This is how they become best friends
-gandalf big naturals
-Gandalf spent those 15 years between bilbos 111th birhtday and the quest going to village to village tran-sing peoples gender
-Faramir is trans and gandalf was able to give him the right treatment and binders when he was kid before denethor found out. Boromir was happy to have a brother.
-Merry learns how to knit so he can make baby Elanor hats.
-Gimli is the hottest dwarf of Erebor by dwarven standards
-Sam makes Frodo fried mushrooms because he knows its his favorite.
-Lobelia and bilbo have wlw and mlm rivalry
-Merry and Pippin love really weird food combos. Mushrooms and honey? delish. Cherries and salt? yummy. Vinegar cake? even better.
They force every one of the fellowship to try one of these combinations. Aragorn doesn't notice anything bad, Sam eats it because he is polite, Frodo doesn't mind the mushrooms and honey, Boromir throws up, Gimli tells him he should add more meat and Legolas never felt more betrayed in his life.
-Rosie cotton met Goldberry once and they had a sort of relationship where they kissed. She never saw her again, and she thinks it was a dream.
-Tom Bombadil and Goldberry are qpr
-Elladan and Elorhir wanted to adopt merry and pippin until they realized they were ADULTS.
Thats all I have for now! Theres so much more but these are the only ones I can think of without getting into a whole essay on what means what and all that. Thank you smm for the ask anon!!
So some days ago, I decided to read the hobbit and the lord of the rings. And i finished reading the hobbit. And it was fun. There was a meddling wizard, stupid trolls who argue over cooking methods, nasty goblins, wolves, giant spiders, nice elves, a slightly creepy creature living beside an underground lake, an awesome magic ring, ( yes, i thought that a magic ring which can turn you invisible was pretty neat while reading the hobbit, thank you very much, can we please move on), some nice elves and men, a dragon, a mountain full of treasure, 13 dwarves who seemed to share a single brain cell amongst them and a hobbit who by sheer dumb luck made it to the mountain. Okay so dwarves are greedy bastards and doesn't want to share their gold? Poor lake people got their town burned oh please guys give that bard guy some gold he killed a DRAGON for goodness' sake. Where does the army of elves came from? Why do they want gold? It's not theirs, well factor some not nice elves. There's a pretty shiny rock, oohh i guess that's important ( then i also read a book about 3 pretty shiny rocks and the number of people who died or were killed for them, 😐)Ahh, there is a dwarf army too, i guess they'll fight it out. ooh poor hobbit, don't you dare hurt him mr. Dwarf King. What's that in the horizon? An army of the mutual enemy who wants to kill everyone? And everyone united to kill them instead? How are the eagles involved again? Ohh the king and his nephews are dead, his cousin is now king, well at least he apologized before dying. Ohh bilbo returned home. Okay the end. It was good.
Then i watched the movies.
WHAT? Are you telling me THiS Guy here is Thorin Oakenshield? But but, he is going to dieeee. I don't want him to die. Wait, Fili and Kili are so cute, but they are also going to die.
Ahhh, complex dwarf character, they had a home and then the dragon happened and now they don't have a home and they want their home back even if it means there are only 13 of them, (and a hobbit, and a wizard though he might run away at times, who knows, wizards) against a dragon. It is about reclaiming your home and not only about the gold, ahhh someone kill me imma die from the feels.
Wait, why are you making the- are you making the already hot exiled dwarf king even more hot and complex and broody, it is not fair, he is going to die in the end. Where is the dmaned director, i hate you.
No no heart don't you dare fall in love this guy is going to die and break your heart in the end, red flags, red flags, abort mission.
Waiitttt, so there is the hobbit and the dwarf, are you sureee there is nothing going on between them?
So the little dwarf prince fell for a elf, and his uncle hates elves cause they didn't help them when the dragons came, okay then, but i miss the nice elves from the books, but this elvenking is also kinda hot.
Does this elf prince have spider powers? Man he is reminding me of peter parker how is he maintaining balance while fighting like that?
Oooh damn, bard is also hot. *Screams in a pillow*
I feel like the 3rd movie is gonna break my heart.
Okay the dragon's gone, i likey like bard's children, they are cute. Go away Alfred no one wants to hear you. Annddddd Thorin went mad, so did some dwarves to a lesser degree, and bilbo is sad, you can't literally see the heartbreak in his eyes, you can feel it across the screen, i am also sad bilbo. You are not alone.
Ahhh Thorin smiled at Bilbo and gave him mithril shirt, are you absolutely sure they are just friends mr. Director?
Thorin's eyes, i can see how they turn back and forth between blue and black. I feel the struggle. Ahhh come on Thorin you can fight it.
Ahhh, Bofur you are Bilbo's bff, i knew it.
Wait, are you also sure there's nothing going on between Thranduil and Bard? Or the wizard and the badass lady?
Here it comes, here it comes, the battlement scene, Thorin don't hurt bilbo can't you see you are breaking his heart and mine too.
Ahh Dain is funny. The elves fight so pretty.
See, this is what happens when you ignore the wizard, damn you people, he was trying to tell you about the army since foreever, why are you acting so surprised now.
Is legolas into gymnastics? How the hell could he fight like that? I thought elves were nature lovers and star gazers, i didnt know they were into acrobatics.
Oh thank Eru Thorin's fine now. Yee boys go and bash some orc skulls. No, nooo don't go there there is another army ahhh. *Screams into pillow again*
Nooo, FILIII.... *Starts crying 😭😭😭*
KILI not you tooo ... Tauriel is sad, so am i.
Ahhhh THORIN 😭😭😭😭 ahdievxosnwbixjqoevdooqnckcn
He dies, he dies in his Hobbit's arms and you cannot tell me they are just friends, I don't- i won't believe it.
* screams and cries and throws things, there are tissues scattered everywhere, the family members thinking i am mad.*
So mr. director come here let's have a chat, i have cookies. *Creepy smile.*
Why did you make a greedy dwarf king into a three dimensional complex character who is prideful but also wants the best for his people, and casted a damned hot guy as him and made him look at the camera like THAT and smile like THAT when you knew he was goinggg to dieeee? I was not mentally prepared for this shit and now i have trauma and it's your fault and i swear I'm gonna murder you with conkers you-
Looking for The Hobbit/LOTR and HP characters
Hi there :)
I'm P. I'm 32 years old and live in Europe. I have my muse, Thinya, who's an OC based on The Hobbit movies and established in December 2014. I took a long hiatus from 2020 to 2023 and came back yesterday to try to revive her and bring a bit of Middle Earth back to life.
understand that OCs are not the most interesting choice, and definitely accept it. However, if anyone would be willing to interact with Thinya, I am here! I mostly would love to see some interaction with Thorin and the company (Fili, Kili, Bofur, Balin, ect...). I also have a Harry Potter verse so of course any character like Harry, Ron, Hermione, Neville, Draco, ect, would be also lovely!
What to expect from me?
I am a very enthusiastic writer, I am still reconnecting the dots from my rusty brain, but definitely feel the muse strong. English isn't my first language, I do speak 5 languages overall and always give my best to make sure to provide quality in my writing. I also understand that real life is way more important than writing and that sometimes it can take days or weeks to reply. I work a full time job, 40h per week, and sometimes I am too tired to even write something.
However, I LOVE talking OOC, sharing ideas, and communicating with my partners. So you will always receive a little message from me if I feel that I'm too tired to reply to one of our threads.
If you ever are interested in joining me for nice interactions, please send me an ask! I am more than happy to meet new writers and write any kind of threads (angst, romance, friendship, adventures, etc…)
A true home(The hobbit Fanfic)
Chapter 10
Third Pov
It had been a few days since that night. The girls had gotten used to riding with Fili, Kili and Bofur. The boys would tell them stories from their younger days. Turns out they got into a lot of trouble. The other dwarves would tell them their stories and the girls really felt part of the company.
The only ones who were not happy about them coming along were Thorin and Dwalin. They had nothing against the girls, they just feel protective over them and want to ensure their safety not just because they are women but because they are the youngest of the group and dwarves were always protective of the adolescence. They know that they are strong but still worry. Thorin has been very distant with Lilith because she reminds him of his lost love. He feels if he remains distant, the feeling would go away but it just gets worse. He hates not knowing why she has such an effect on him.
It was currently raining and everyone was fed up. They all had their hoods up and followed the path with sombre looks. The girls however had no problem with the rain, in fact they encouraged it. Everyone was fed up at this point.
"Gandalf, can't you do something about this deluge?"
"It is raining, Master Dwarf, and it will continue to rain until the rain is done. If you wish to change the weather of the world, you should find yourself another wizard."
Bilbo looks curious. Renée turns her attention to Gandalf and Bilbo's conversation. Kate and Lilith also stopped what they were doing to listen in on the conversation.
"Are there any?"
"What?"
"Other wizards?"
"There are five of us. The greatest of our order is Saruman the White. Then there are the two blue wizards. You know, I've quite forgotten their names."
"And who is the fifth?"
"Well, that would be Radagast the Brown."
"Is he a great wizard or is he more like you?"
The girls tried to hide their laughter behind their hands but were unsuccessful. Gandalf was slightly offended. Kate then just hit the back of Bilbo's head, making him look at her in disbelief.
"Pops, come on be nice. Those are stuff we think not say." She pauses for a second and turns to Gandalf. "Well, are you?" Renee and Lilith couldn't help it anymore and started laughing like hyenas.
"I think he is a very great wizard in his own way. He's a gentle soul who prefers the company of animals to others."
Eventually the conversation ended. After a few hours Lilith got very fidgety and became insanely bored. Renée picked up on this and turned to her.
"You good lils? Want me to play some music to make you feel better?" Lilith just nodded like a little kid saying yes to candy. Kate just chuckled at her while Renée took out her phone and looked through her playlist. Lilith requested a song. Renée put the speaker on high volume and pressed play.
youtube
Lilith was singing along while Renée just moved her head to the beat and Kate was humming. The others were looking at them with so much confusion. Bilbo just smiled at his daughters having fun. Kate then requested a song. One of the old classics.
Kili and Fili were so enthralled by Renée and Kate. Lilith noticed and smirked at them. Looks like their feelings are mutual. At least she doesn't have to worry about killing them and hiding their bodies. Bofur was interested in how they were able to do that. The girls then explained everything they knew about phones. The others also listened in and asked questions.
"So you can talk to anyone from anywhere at any time with that box in your hand? Amazing." Ori exclaimed with fascination, causing the girls to nod with pride.
"Not just that but you can play music from it and games. You can also take pics as memories from your adventures. It really comes in handy where we're from. We each have one. If you want we can play some more of our music." They all nodded with excitement. Renée then looked through her playlist for something appropriate and fun. She finally found one and pressed play.
youtube
The girls sang the rest of their trip. The others felt a lot better after seeing how happy the girls were. Renée played Whitney, Michael Jackson, James Brown and basically all the classics. The atmosphere changed thanks to the girls and now everyone felt a lot more positive. The Company eventually approached a ruined farmhouse. Thorin scanned the area, before turning to the others.
"We'll camp here for the night. Fili, Kili, look after the ponies. Make sure you stay with them." The group began to dismount. Gandalf wanders into the farmhouse, examining the ruin. The girls huddled together to come up with a plan. They sat away from the group.
"Okay so we need to think of something. We know that there are trolls around these parts but I doubt Thorin's going to listen to us. So we need to put a plan in place. That means girls, we need to come up with some form of distraction. Kate, what do you have in mind?" Renée and Lilith looked at her. Kate started thinking of a good distraction.
"Hmmmmmm. Well we need to wait until they are captured. We can try to keep the trolls busy until Gandalf comes back. But Dad would also need to buy us time. My guess, Thorin's going to make us stay here which gives us a slight advantage. Whatever we do, we need to make sure the others don't find out. Not even Dad."
They nodded and came up with a plan. Meanwhile Thorin and Gandalf were discussing the best move but of course he was stubborn.
"A farmer and his family used to live here."
"Oin, Gloin, get a fire going."
"Right you are". Gloin nodded in agreement, leading his brother into the woods. Gandalf locked eyes with Thorin as he went further into the farmhouse.
"I think it would be wiser to move on. We could make for the Hidden Valley."
"I have told you already, I will not go near that place."
"Why not? The elves could help us! We could get food, rest, advice."
"I do not need their advice."
"We have a map we cannot read; Lord Elrond will help us."
"Help? A dragon attacks Erebor, what help came from the elves? Orcs plunder Moria, desecrate our sacred halls, and the elves looked on and did nothing. You ask me to seek out the very people who betrayed my grandfather, who betrayed my father?
"You are neither of them. I did not give you that map and key for you to hold onto the past."
"I did not know they were yours to keep."
Gandalf scowled at Thorin and turned around, angry with Thorin. He passed Bilbo, tending to the horses. Bilbo seemed confused.
"Everything all right? Gandalf, where are you going?" The girls looked up to see Gandlf stalking away. They tried to call out to him to stop him but no luck.
"To seek the company of the only one around here who's got any sense."
"And who's that?"
"Myself, Mr. Baggins! I've had enough of dwarves for one day."
Thorin stepped out of the farmhouse, glowering after Gandalf. Lilith marched up to him. Renee and Kate didn't even stop her, sending glares his way.
"Come on, Bombur, we're hungry."
Bilbo turned to Balin.
"Is he coming back?"
Not even Blain knew the answer to that, making Bilbo even more worried.
"What the actual fuck is wrong with you? Were you dropped on your head as a baby? Are you so prideful and thick headed that you won't even go to the elves for help? They could help us figure out the fucking map but no, you let your pride and ego get the best of you. You are such a selfish asshole." Thorin stepped closer to her with a glare but that didn't scare Lilith. Renee came up to them while Kate walked to where her father was.
"You have no right to speak to me like that. You understand nothing. You are nothing but a child. You shouldn't even be here." Lilith just glares right back at him. She wasn't scared of him. She's dealt with assholes like him before.
"Do you think I give a fuck? I really don't. I'm not scared of you. I've dealt with enough dipshits like you, I'm practically a pro at this point. You think that just because you are some king, you can speak to me or anyone like that? I don't care if you're a god or deity. I wont let you disrespect people when you don't get your fucking way and act like a child. You think we've had easy lives? No we haven't but you don't see us acting like a toddler who just got his favourite toy taken from them. You're the one who doesn't understand. And we aren't children, We're 23 fucking years old." Lilith looked like she was on the verge of tears but she still stood her ground. Renée put her hand on her shoulder and pulled her away from Thorin.
"Lilith that's enough. He'll realise the decision he's made and he will come to regret it. Go sit down now and cool off." Lilith nodded and walked to find a nice and comfortable place to cool off. Renée then turned back to Thorin.
"I hope you realise that you just put us all in danger. We tried to warn you, Gandalf tried to warn but you are too fucking prideful to listen. So don't say we didn't warn you when things turn south. We aren't your enemies so stop treating us as if we are. We're just trying to help you. Now I'm going to make sure Lilith isn't plotting your murder because knowing her, she most likely is. We won't bother seeing as we're such burdens on your quest so we ask that you don't bother as well. Thank you." Renée was calm the whole time and Kate knew she was very angry.
The entire camp was silent and in shock from Lilith's screaming match. Kate and Renée walked to her and did their best to not let her kill Thorin in his sleep. Everyone just went on like nothing happened but Thorin could not get Lilith's words out of his head. He looked at her and for a split second he thought he saw his lost love, Elanor. When he heard Lilith's words, his heart broke a little and he didn't know why. Even now he doesn't understand why her words can have such an impact on him. He shook his head and went to talk to Dwalin. The rest of the afternoon, everyone except Bilbo stayed clear of the girls. They were afraid they might go off on them. The girls were grateful but didn't say anything. They were mentally preparing themselves for what was to come.
Lilith's POV
After the girls made sure I was okay and ,as Renée so lovingly put it, not planning Thorin's murder. I still felt annoyed. So standing up and going to my bag I brought with me everything I needed. From fresh clothes to snacks to weapons. Mom signed me up for all types of weapon training as well as self defence classes along with Ren and Kate. I sigh.
"Mom, why did you have to leave me? Leave us? I know you haven't actually left us and you are still here with us but it's hard. I miss you. So do the girls but... It's not the same. I know you have been gone for a while now and I guess I should be over it but I'm not."
I muttered not realising Dwalin was making his way towards me. I sigh and take a deep breath in. I turn to the girls and Papa.
"Guys I need to cool off. I'm going into the woods for a bit and do some things. So don't freak if you can't find me. And don't worry its not anything harmful. I'm just going into the woods to collect my thoughts. Girls, you know how to get my attention."
I told them, referring to a code that we used when we needed to get each other's attention. It was a high pitched quick whistle. For some reason we learned Morse code and we incorporated both of them. The girls and Papa nodded and softly smiled at me.
Making sure I had everything I needed in my bag I turned to the rest of the company making sure that they didn't need any help. Looking over our camp I noticed that everything was basically sorted. So turning on my heel I made my way into the woods making sure to stay clear of the directions I knew the trolls to be.
After walking for a little bit I found where I wanted to do some training. So pulling out my bow and knives and some other things I set up a target to practise on and got to work listening to music.
After about an hour of this I take a break. I'm not sweating but I am taking shallow breaths. All of a sudden I hear a twig snap and out of instinct I spin around pointing my blade at the attacker's neck.
"Lass, relax it's just me."
I recognise the voice to be Dwalin. Lowering my blade I let out a sigh of relief.
"Master Dwalin. Sorry. You gave me a fright. Thought you were something else. What can I do for you?"
"Some of the others got worried when you didn't come back. I wanted to take a leak and heard noises. So I followed them and saw you training. I must admit I'd hate to be on the receiving end. You were very good, miss Lilith."
At the unexpected compliment from grumpy pants- I mean Dwalin. I smiled feeling prideful. I smiled and said thank you. At this point we both sat down on a rock that was near to where I was training.
As we sat in silence I looked around at my surroundings. I didn't really do that before but I'm glad I am now. I notice that there is a little stream with some fish swimming in it. Around us the trees sheltered us from the wind so everything was still.
"Lassie, I have been thinking. You seem really good with weapons and fighting. How about I help you train? I think we could both use it?"
Dwalin's gruff voice brought me back. Surprised, I turned my head and looked at him with wide eyes. Shocked, I nodded with a smile on my face. Out of nowhere I heard whistling.
Lilith can you come back please. The guys are getting worried and we don't really know Middle Earth outside of The Hobbit and The Lord of The Rings.
Okay I am coming now.
"Come one Master Dwalin. The girls are calling us."
With a confused face Dwalin follows me back to our camp.
