Odysseus goes to greet the inhabitants of an island and gets trapped in a cave for two days by the cyclops that's eating his men one by one? Nope, we got BOSS BATTLE 30v1 in the Ithacans' favour until BAM fourteen pancakes are made by Polyphemus' club and oh shit Polites is DEAD-

Athena is just vaugely absent for the whole journey until the end? We got emotionally charged platonic breakups instead, with yelling and insults and "well I'm breaking up with you FIRST!"

Smooth sailing to Ithaca? STOOOORM-

Odysseus' great-great-great-grandfather giving him a speed boost to help him on his way home? Get ready for trickster wind gods, mischievous winions, and a game that was rigged from the start.

Random-ass suspicious and greedy crew mates open the bag? It's Eurylochus, his second in command, his brother-in-law, the man he trusted, Eurylochus WHYYY

Parking in the wrong harbour and getting boulders thrown at the fleet by angry man-eating giants while Odysseus backs away veeery slowly? Nah Poseidon himself pulls up to dunk on them, and Odysseus has to make a last minute getaway using the power of STOOORM to avoid being curbstomped like his fleet.

Odysseus gets some stronger drugs from a god to make him immune to the other drugs of a goddess? Well these drugs actually give him magic powers which he uses to engage in a Pokémon/Yu-Gi-Oh style BOSS BATTLE!

Get some closure with dead loved ones and acquaintances, and be the first interviewer of the fallen heroes of past ages? Nope, we just got TRAUMA and a whole boatload of guilt!

A neat outline of what the rest of the journey will look like, a warning against an island of cows that will slow him down, and the way to appease Poseidon? This Tiresias just says "Y'know there used to be a world where you made it home, BUT I DON'T SEE IT NO MORE. IT'S GONE. IT'S OVER. Also, your palace is fucked."

Sailing past the sirens while getting to be the first mortal to hear their song and live? M U R D E R

Sailing past Scylla to avoid Charybdis and accidentally getting six men eaten because he thought he could totally take Scylla, even though Circe said he couldn't, and then he realised he, in fact, cannot take Scylla? ... Eurylochus, light up six torches.

Eurylochus waits till Odysseus is out hunting and then goes behind his back to mutinously rally the crew and feast on some sacred cattle? Betrayal on both sides, stabby stab, K.O., and then Odysseus helplessly watches them make the greatest mistake of their lives as they ignore his pleas.

Quick clean and easy lightning-strike to the ship, leaving Odysseus to cling to some driftwood and paddle away? Zeus himself appears to the mortals, monologues, makes Odysseus be the one to choose, and then smites the whole ship leaving Odysseus to nearly drown anyway.

Telemachus gets advice from a disguised Athena to yell at the suitors and then sail away to look for news of his missing father? Telemachus gets into a full on beatdown with the suitors and gets FIGHT CLUB TRAINING from Athena!

Athena goes "dad I want my favourite mortal back? Did you forget about him? I think you forgot about him" and Zeus instantly replies "nonsense. How could I have forgotten that funny little mortal? Of course you can have him back my sweet favoured child <3" and then Athena skips off to Ithaca? "Father please-" "LIGHTNING BOLT! ANOTHER LIGHTNING BOLT! LIGHTNING BOLT TO THE FACE HOW DARE YOU ASK ME OF SUCH A THING!"

Poseidon does a double take "wait they let him go?? Oh hell nah!" and then sends a giant fuck off storm for Odysseus to swim through until he reaches the Phaeacians? No, Poseidon's just been there on Ithaca's shores, waiting for eight years, now get in the water BITCH- except Odysseus is just like "oh yeah? Fucking FIGHT ME"

You thought the suitors in the Odyssey were bad? Jorge really just said "dial that shit up to ELEVEN"

Odysseus is such a LIAR in Hades 2. I love this detail so much! When asked why him and Penelope drifted apart he’s like, “oh, I was too caught up always living in the past, day dreaming about the uh…Siren’s song. Yeah that one.”

Me and Melinoë are both like, “Okay… I guess?” If you are that much of a fan do you wanna hop down to Oceanus with me or… u good right here? You don’t want me to record my next run in with Scylla or…?

Then when Circe is brought up it is just “oh, hardly knew her… barely an acquaintance.” And out loud, in my kitchen, at midnight or something I said, WHY ARE YOU LYING WHY ARE YOU LYING ODYSSEUS WHAT DO YOU GAIN FROM THIS

And I’m thinking back, has EVERYTHING he’s ever said to Melinoë been a lie? like I know he’s coy, and flirts around his true meanings, and I know I don’t always pick up on stuff like that, but MY GOD man. (I have to go back and play the game from the beginning now. I’m listening to him talk with Moros and it is so obvious now, it’s literally everything that comes out of this man’s mouth unless it’s a reconnaissance report. AHHH).

I just love this writing choice for his character so much. They didn’t have to do it. It’s so endearing. It’s just like, of course he is, of course Odysseus would be lying all the time even when he doesn’t need to. (i’m still gonna fuck him tho)

hi nonnie!! sorry it took me a few days to get back to u, but u sent such a good and interesting question i had to . properly think it over before i gave you a reply!! i even discussed it a bit with my best friend, even tho her knowledge on the topic of the marauders is limited to what i've told her + the couple of fics i've convinced her to read lol

anyways !! i used to be a mythology nerd so this ask genuinely made me swoon !! thank u for sending it and encouraging me to rant about both my fav ships AND greek myths <3

for jegulus i feel like it's a bit obvious.. they're so orpheus and eurydice coded.. to me.. it's all about devotion and being incapable to accept a lost love or move on and yet not being able to save the other person, or bring them back, bc it's been doomed since the start. but it was still beautiful while it lasted, and any of them looking back is proof that the love was there in the first place, and that it mattered!!

i could also see them as pygmalion and galatea (shout out to my beloved mil !!) bc i feel like their dynamic, especially in a canon context, is a lot about . them idealising each other in a way . about loving each other bc of what they represent . regulus has james in a pedestal, he sees him as this beacon of good and kindness and he loves him because of that. always from a certain distance, knowing it's bound to end at some point bc he's rotten and he isn't allowed to taint something as perfect as james. not like he'd want to, anyway. and james !! he sees regulus as something beautiful but broken that he's meant to fix. he thinks that if he treats him well and loves him right, reg will change and will choose him exactly like sirius did. he thinks he can mold him in what james thinks is the best version of him, bring out the good he's sure hides somewhere deep inside of reg. ultimately, they're both wrong, and are basing their love in what's simply an ideal etc etc

for pandalily.. they're the amazons <3 powerful warrior women who rejected and rebelled against a men-dominated society <3

they're also very scylla and charybdis coded to me.. two terrifying monsters in the mediterranean sea.. ships being forced to navigate between the two creatures and it almost always ending in tragedy.. their relationship + love is very . monstruous and twisted, in the best way, because they embrace each other's ugly sides and encourage them. they love each other not in spite of them, but because of them. they love violently and intensely, and what might seem grotesque and dangerous and plain wrong from an outsider's perspective it just . works for them . they're happy in that chaos and destruction <3

i could also see them as alcyone and ceyx, mostly in the sense of being this arrogant couple who dares to compare themselves to the gods and ends up being punished for it, because i feel that's very accurate to the version of pandalily i have in my head. also alcyone killing herself after ceyx died, ready to follow him anywhere, even to the afterlife??? that's pandalily. they wouldn't be that . upset or devastated about it i don't think, but the point is that if one of them dies, the other is killing themselves right after, no questions asked

as for bartylily.. it can only be hades and persephone to me.. persephone being demeter's precious sweet daughter and hades being the king of the underworld, always an outsider even around the gods. her having so many suitors but hades being the most persisting one.. softening around her and being utterly fascinated by her freshness and her beauty.. resorting to kidnapping her bc he knew her mother would never approve of their union.. persephone eating from the pomegranate and ending up bound to the underworld.. her being the emobodiment of spring but also becoming the queen of the underworld.. idk i feel like the duality is very . lily . (or at least it's very my lily) and this being such a controversial myth, with so many ppl arguing about if persephone truly ended up falling for hades or if the time she spends down there with him is always against her will, if she was tricked into eating the pomegranate seeds by her husband or if she did so willingly, etc etc, it all fits bartylily incredibly well!! i'm also personally very fond of the story so that's always a bonus

OOOOOOOOHHH-KAY. I have a lot of lore explanation.

Scylla (this version) is the mother of Grenue, and is quite a good mother at that. Although, she yearns to get out of her lair and to Circe's palace, to visit not only her child, but also her love, Circe.

From youngest to eldest head:

Erebus was the last head of Scylla's serpents to emerge from Tarturus, earning a lower, yet calmer amount of immaturity. He would usually entertain a much younger Grenue, and still does. He is based on a pitbull.

Evadne is a funny, yet aggressive head, being the second youngest of the serpents. He commonly taught Grenue how to fight (and make terrible jokes). He is based upon a rottweiler.

Ismene is a soft-spoken, yet protective one, being the second middle head. In most cases, he taught Grenue how to react to certain situations when it came to friends and family. German Shepherd is the dog he is based on.

Damon is usually cuddly and affectionate, especially with Epimetheus (since he's the closest physically and emotionally). He would always be there to give Grenue a hug or cuddle after a bad day, and they learned to do the same unintentionally. He's based on a golden retriever.

Epimetheus is somewhat the most knowledgeable (aside from Ismene, the smartest), but likes to show it to others a lot more. Not for bragging rights, he just likes to ramble. He taught Grenue to always stay curious for whatever they have on their mind. Based on a doberman.

Finally, we have the eldest head (aside from Scylla herself), Lycurgus, who is the wisest and has the most leadership skills. He helped Grenue know that while it is okay to follow someone, they should also be a good leader, by listening to their team and taking it into suggestion, if not work upon it. He is based on a husky.
