I swear to god I do like Danganronpa - Part One Maybe

[unmarked spoilers for all three mainline Danganronpa games, be forewarned!] I'm seeing so much nice Danganronpa stuff that I feel bad that the only thing I've mentioned about it is stuff I hated in the newest game, so I wanna instead talk about the stuff I liked from the games, which would be the characters themselves. I can't focus on all of them due to not having finished the anime or UDG (you can probably guess why with the latter), but the writers have such a cruel (in a good way) habit of writing these characters either in a way that makes you love them, or to the point where you're actively hoping for their death. Or, in one of my favourite character's cases, going from the latter to the former. The ultimate asshole himself, Byakuya Togami. Honestly Toko? I fucking *get it.* It turns out there's something about a character like that slowly turning from an unlikeable douche to someone who's been humbled somewhat, but is still full of himself enough to pull his shit together and still stay somewhat authoritative (despite how much he delegates shit to Naegi) that gets me hanging on every douchey line of his.

Speaking of Toko, a reference to OG Dragon Ball? In MY Danganronpa? It's more likely than you think, although I only read through Dragon Ball last year so I had no idea who L(a)unch was at the time, but I digress. It's always worth noting that each Danganronpa has had a player in it that's killed before, Jill being the only (kinda, if you ignore Mukuro who died immediately and Junko herself given she's more of a mastermind than a player) one in the first game, though she only really serves as the template for Korekiyo, as the killer(s) in SDR2 weren't so much serial as they were... uh... not-serial. I dunno, I'm not exactly elegant here. Korekiyo is a pale imitator though, mostly because we see him actually succumb to his serial killer urges, which is such a Virgin Korekiyo move as opposed to the Chad Genocide Jill. Which is ironic because considering his relationship with his sister... man what is it with V3 and incest? Again I digress but to be fair I DID just finish V3 today.

But anyway, having a character like that in a murder-mystery is always necessary, because it's important for not only the characters in the game to have a reasonable initial suspect, but also for the player themselves to constantly be questioning whether the character actually DID do this one, despite not having done the other ones, which is another reason I felt Korekiyo was a little lacking in that department, his serial-killer-i-ness didn't really end up being revealed until AFTER he'd already like... killed two people. I already knew he did it, the question was why he did it twice, and the answer was sorta lame. Wait shit this was supposed to be positive, I swear I like him in general as a character, the serial killer aspect was just forced in my opinion... which if you think about it, was probably intentional due to the whole crux of how the Danganronpa characters are "written" in-universe. If it's in-universe fictional incest, does that make it more or less weird? his sister didn't actually exist, I guess, so is it less weird because it didn't happen or more weird because someone on the Team Danganronpa writing staff came up with that idea for Korekiyo's story? Who's the writer putting their fetish into the Danganronpa contestants? I'm definitely overthinking this.

With no easy segue here, let's go from a character that died quickly to a character I wish had died quicker than he had, the Ultimate Brat, Kokichi Oma.

I hate so much that I know if I were younger I'd be into him so much.

Much like Toko/Jill and Nagito (who, don't worry, we'll get to), Kokichi is made to stir the pot, but my god he does it so much better/worse than the others, to the point where it wasn't even "oh wow this character is evil but at least they're fun", it went to "oh my god can someone actually kill this guy please?" Thanks Kaito, by the way. I understand why Kokichi is the way he is, and the picture painted of him after his death makes it a lot sadder in hindsight, as you learn that he wasn't even part of the big bad Remnants of Despair, he was just an orphan kid with a group of fellow orphans (if the D.I.C.E reference is in fact a reference to some obscure anime like the DR Wiki says) going around causing mischief and, I think, stealing things. He was, in essence, Carmen Sandiego, and no one can hate her. But at the same time, the dude killed my man Gonta, and got away with it by making Gonta kill someone else. I get that a lot of the characters had a point where they were willing to sacrifice their friends to try and end the Killing Game, but there's lying when you know your friends will latch onto the lie and work with you like Maki did, and then there's manipulating someone who barely knows not to trust you into sacrificing his own life for your cause. Granted, maybe that takes some of Gonta's autonomy away in that scenario, but Gonta's entire personality was trying to be the best person he could be, and everyone in the school was well aware of how that could be used to his detriment, and all it would require is a suggestion of what the right thing to do would be... much like the suggestion that everyone should be made to love bugs in an insect meet and greet. Kokichi is one of those characters where, whether I like him or not I'm on the fence about, but it is undeniable that the game would not be the same without him.

And finally (for now, I may do more of these if the mood takes me) because holy shit it's 2AM, let's go for the guy I mentioned earlier, the twisted mirror-image of DR1's protagonist in the form of Nagito Komaeda.

Okay that's enough of that google-level trivia.

I love to hate Nagito, he's such an adorable bastard. He actively tries to kill people, screw them over or just say weird shit about hope to them, but at the same time he looked so cute and goofy tied up in chapter 2 that it's hard for me to hate him. I guess the describer people would use is Affably Evil, where he's clearly villainous, but you just can't help but smile when he goes off on some wild tangent about hope. You go, girl.

Plus, the dynamic shift in the later chapter as he discovers the identity of the students, and subsequently seeks to take the traitor down in the most cockamamie scheme since something Wile E. Coyote would try on the Road Runner, and due to his Ultimate Ass-Pull talent, it actually fuckin' works? I think SDR2's Trial 5 is one of the most interesting in all of the games as a result of all this stuff coming together, especially because, as Nagito says, Ultimate Luck is kinda fuckin' useless if you're not actively in a casino at all times, so the set-up for his own murder went beyond just luck, it took planning to specifically rely on luck at a crucial moment, one where the chance of what he needed to have happen was infinitesimal, which maybe isn't that interesting when all is said and done because I'm sure a lot of murders rely on luck, but like I said, it's definitely one of the most interesting trials in all three games because of it.

Nagito, I'm glad you're not really dead, but I'm also sad you never really existed in the first place. Also I'm glad you died.

I’m 𝒞𝓁𝑜𝓊𝒹 and I’m all about gaming and art. You’ll often find me with a controller in one hand and a comic book in the other. My better half, the yin to my yang. She’s the partner in crime, the sweet melody to my wild riffs, and the one who brings a touch of grace to our shared tales of adventure and heart, 𝒞𝒽𝒾𝑒𝓃𝓃𝑒! She is the other half of this storytelling team. We both love creating stories that’ll make you feel like you’re right there with the characters.

♡ Our Writing ♡

We write what we love, and we love what we write. Our stories are inspired by our current fascinations—be it a game, a movie, or a manga. If it’s interesting and fascinating to us, it’s fair game for our writing.

Most of our stories are “x female reader” because that’s where we feel most at home. Occasionally, we’ll write “x gender-neutral reader” pieces for a bit of variety. However, we generally steer clear of “x male reader” or “OC x canon” stories. We want to create a space where female readers can see themselves in the worlds we love so much.

Gaming: I’m a huge fan of Kingdom Hearts, Batman Arkham games, Mortal Combat, Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, Doom 3, Phasmophobia, Five Nights At Freddy’s, Twisted Wonderland, Call of Duty, Halo 3 and 4, Sonic and Transformers. If it’s a game or relating to horror, chances are I love it.

Comics: Batman is my passion. I collect anything related to the Dark Knight, and my collection is my pride and joy.

Anime/Manga: I'm into One Piece, Princess TuTu, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Jujutsu Kaisen, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Kingdom Hearts, Sgt. Frog, Free!, HellSing, and a bunch more. I have also seen MHA, Fairy Tail, Dragon Ball, Soul Eater, Naruto, Castlevania, Diabolik Lovers and more.

Disney & Tim Burton: I’m a Disney kid at heart. My top 5 Disney movies are Treasure Planet, Cinderella 3, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and The Princess and the Frog. And I’m all about Halloween and everything Tim Burton.

Music: I love RnB and Y2K music so much! However, you can usually find me listening to cutesy, cheesy love songs.

Gaming: I’m definitely not the biggest gamer around, but I do love to play Roblox, Fortnite, and Minecraft! Sometimes I’ll also dabble in some fall guys, FNAF or Poppy’s Playtime. On Roblox, I love to play pretty much anything but pvp games due to the fact that I’m not the best at them. Horror games are probably my favorite, even though I’m a chicken!

Anime/Manga: My favorites are definitely Fairy Tail, Jojo’s bizarre adventure, Naruto, and Demon slayer. I’ve also watched MHA, Danganronpa, Yona of the Dawn, Food wars, High Rise Invasion, Angels of death, and more!

Disney and Tim Burton: I’m definitely a Disney girl! I love all Disney Princess movies, both animated and live action. My top three not in any particular order would have to be Tangled, The Little Mermaid, and Princess and the Frog. For Tim Burton, my favorites are the classics, The nightmare before Christmas and Corpse bride. 

Books: I’m also a huge book girly! My favorite genre has to be fantasy/sci-fi. My favorite book series is The Lunar Chronicles, I definitely recommend it!

Have you ever read/watched My Hero Academia? Your thoughts are always fascinating about things like danganronpa+raincode and you've made me appreciate characters much more than I ever thought I could (Junko and Miu specifically being mentioned here)

You like the Haruhi Show, you like danganronpa, MHA feels right in your niche

So it seems kind of up your alley, and I'd love to hear your thoughts on it

I don't really know a lot about MHA, but what I've heard about it is that it's a pretty typical battle shonen. It has several cool female characters with interesting abilities, who are mainly there to be waifu bait; They never get to participate in fights or be central to the plot because boy show boy show.

I don't know how true that is. It's just what I've heard through pop culture osmosis.

I have a couple of those in my fandom library from my teenage years. Dragon Ball, of course. Yu Yu Hakusho. Probably a couple others that don't come to mind off the top of my head. I was aggressively trying to present masculinity in everything I watched and did for a while as a teen, and I now have grandfathered-in investment in those characters even as my tastes have changed.

If I were watching Dragon Ball Z for the very first time today, I'd probably give it a miss.

But these days, I tend to find myself more interested in things like The Apothecary Diaries, Raven of the Inner Palace, or Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. Shows which center cool, interesting women as a driving force in their plot.

Haruhi has a male protagonist, but it also fits that bill. Danganronpa similarly often saddles you with a bland male Projection Bait protag but features a ton of interesting male and female characters who drive the narrative.

To get invested in MHA, I'd need to be confident that the women of MHA aren't just cute and quirky decorations to cheer on the boys who are doing all the cool stuff.

As for the question, there’s technically a lot of fandoms I enjoy. Including:

Undertale/Deltarune

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power

Transformers Prime

Five Nights at Freddy’s

POKÉMON (oh my god this one almost rivals DB lol)

And all the fandoms you just mentioned.

Danganronpa especially holds a special place in my heart, cause I was obsessed with it for a solid 3-4 years - basically all of high school. Kokichi, Nagito, and Junko were my favorite characters.

But during college, my interest finally became obsessed with Dragon Ball. Not just because I loved the characters and show. But this is the fandom I’ve gotten most involved with; writing/posting several fanfics, drawing fanart, participating in fan events, finding other moots online. I never did that with these other fandoms, except with my sister.

But I do still really enjoy these other fandoms, and sometimes I’ll revisit them briefly on certain days. For now though, Dragon Ball has firmly been set in my head - and honestly, a part of me hopes it’ll never go away.

….also Chapter 4 of Poppy Playtime releases in just 2 days, and the wait is KILLING ME!!

OMORI - Voice Actor Headcanons.

While I haven’t exactly finished this game yet, I am close enough to the end and have met basically all the characters, so I think it’s time I got around to doing my good ol’ series of VA headcanons for a game that either doesn’t have one, or doesn’t have an English Dub.

This time we’re doing Omori, a game I started playing at the beginning of this year and have fallen in love with very very quickly. I’ve been through a very painful time of my life recently and this game helped me work through it letting me know that it doesn’t matter how I grieve, just that any way I can is correct. 

And the way the characters work together in the game is also incredible, and I was eagerly awaiting to get to the point that I’m at so I could do a VA headcanons section for this. So before we get started, let me once again go two things.

This is NOT CANON. These are HEADCANONS and are unofficial. It’s just a hypothetical situation. If the characters were voiced, this is who I imagine would voice them.

Every major character in the games is included here, so there are HEAVY SPOILERS for the game’s main storylines. DO NOT READ THIS POST IF YOU HAVE NOT PLAYED THE GAME OR DON’T WANT TO BE SPOILED.

(I really cannot stand characters like Celeste and Byakuya sadly. But the people who do like 'em are cool. Just be mindful of that.)

I am VERY OBSESSED with Takaaki Ishimaru. I love that man. He is my husband. He is all I think about! So don't be surprised if I make a million posts about him >:3

i don't think i was live blogging the arlong arc cause i wasn't locked in as i am now but i did have something to say about it i remember

Is this my first shonen anime?

No, it isn't my first time watching a shonen anime, my very first anime was dragon ball z (like all other kids i was watching the censored nicktoons? version it would come on and we would gather around the TV, i had the video games too) but i like to say the first anime i went out of my way to watch myself was School Rumble but the first anime i watched all on my own was Sword art online (up to the season after Shion thats where i stopped) and Danganronpa the animation. i have watched a handful of animes in my time but not as many as i would like to

I never finished Sword art online, i finished Brand New animal, finished My hero academia, i'm not done with Dr. Stone yet but i started reading Manga's because of Dr. Stone, i have a goal to watch a lot of animes by Trigger and i got a couple of animes i wanna watch but haven't like the soccer one everyone talks about, Blue lock? i'm watching the Wind breaker with my friend we need to finish it - i've seen Promare i've seen a lot of stuff i was watching KLK and Princess Tutu, i wanna finish it but i haven't seen older stuff like Full metal or Sailor moon i was trying to watch pretty cure once i didn't make it very far but i'll try it again one day
