The phrase "I am the rock against which the surf crashes" is such a foreboding sentence, especially when it's used in an inspirational context.

The rock the surf is crashing against is deteriorating. It's loosing itself to the persistent might of the waves. It's not like a sand dune that'll reform somewhere else, the rock just becomes bits of sediment scattered amongst other bits of sediment. The rock's sediment is getting broken down and tossed around by the ocean's current.

How is that inspirational? The rock doesn't reform when it's broken. The rock is eroded into millions of tiny bits of itself that will go millennia without meeting again. The rock is constantly getting worn down until it disappears under the water's surface. The rock isn't getting better, it's perpetually getting worse.

Being the surf crashing against the rock is infinitely more inspirational. The surf is persistent. The surf is fluid. The surf may be weak one day, but it will get stronger. Parts of the water will evaporate, but it'll never lose its strength.

You are the surf, not the rock. You are strong and you will overcome all obstacles.

Rereading ACOSF and Nesta and Cassian’s first sex scene ended in such a fucked up way, imo.

Despite obviously feeling a connection and saying he was “beyond lies right now” after calling her “sex” beautiful, Cassian immediately switches up and stonewalls her. She had said “just sex” at first when they began messing around, yes, but you can tell he pulled this just to spite her and leave her reeling.

Especially how when complimented she said “no one’s ever called it beautiful before”, showed him her genuine self and shared that the experience was “too good”. Almost like she knew it was too good to not end with some kind of punishment and pain, like everything in her life had up to that point.

I just found this so… ick. I’ve been in a position like that where someone just changes their demeanor and shows complete loss of interest in you after they’re satisfied and it’s such a disgusting feeling of being used. She even said she felt empty afterwards. And she had been self harming via sex before this (WHICH WAS ONE OF THE REASONS SHE WAS LOCKED IN THE HOUSE OF WIND!!!) and he did this. Again, ick

When I read A Court of Silver and Flames I fell in love with Nesta, Gwyn and Emerie's friendship. I love them so much. This little sneak peak belongs to a piece of the three valkyries 💕

Regardless if Eris marries Nesta out of ambition or love, one thing remains the same: He doesn't push her to have sex with him or get pregnant. He's not a saint, but he's decent enough to prefer when a woman actually WANTS him before sleeping with her.

Nesta was raised to see children as another duty to fulfill once she married, and after Nyx's birth, she has some heavy feelings about pregnancy, and she tells Eris that much. He respects it and agrees to wait until she's ready, until she genuinely wants to be a mother. When they sleep together, they both take precautions and make sure to not take risks.

Eris has no problem arguing with Beron if the man tries to pressure Nesta into giving them an heir, making it one of the few times he actually fights his father back. And that's the first time Nesta imagines herself having kids with him because seeing him standing up like that for her sake made her feel things

If they get married out of love, this process is even smoother because they just enjoy their time together by going into a long romantic honeymoon, away from everything. Eris has brothers after him, so it's not like he needs to conceive a child urgently, and Nesta always wanted to see the world first. It's only years after their marriage that they finally take that step, because Nesta begins to imagine her own family with Eris really often and the man is downright having a baby fever because of Elucien's kids.

The moment they start trying, they barely take breaks from it. They take this matter very seriously. Nesta falls pregnant within the month and gives birth to twin daughters.

Cass is my favorite bat boy and I think his character kinda got lost in silver flames and I want nothing more than to see him and Nesta to be happy forever, so please I am begging at least a novella like acofas about their mating ceremony or something, I will sell my soul for this I swear.

They are both flawed characters.

Neither is all good or all bad.

And that is where I stand on these fictional characters.

the first time I read the scene in acosf when our valkyrie girls open up to one another and explain how important finishing the rite is to them it genuinely shattered me. as a person that’s been as broken as the three of them, I needed community & radical healing like that. I cried for them & with them. on my second read, I cried even more knowing what was to come, what happens on their way up the peak. the dire need to face things together, to do this together. discovering that some things are more important than fear!!!!! there are many flaws in the narrative & character choices of acosf, but this storyline with these women lifting each other up and accepting their wounds & persevering singlehandely makes this the best book of the series in my opinion.

valkyrie girls, they could never make me hate you. Nesta Archeron they could never make me hate you. Gwyn no one will ever love you more than me. Emerie no one will understand you like I do.

The idea that some people still think Nesta’s main traits are supposed to be bitchy, mean, and a hater…idk what to tell you but the whole point of her healing journey is to not be those things because all it did was hurt everyone around her and herself.
