YOU WERE LAYING in paige’s bed in her shared apartment as you aimlessly scrolled through tiktok waiting for paige as she showered after arriving back from practice. you continued scrolling liking and favoriting every few tiktok’s until you come across one posted by thebellairs, “when you never call your partner by their actual name” captioned on the post, you immediately favorited it and kept the idea as you suddenly became impatient waiting for paige to finish up in the shower.

“hey p!” you called out.

“yeah baby?” she yelled over the noise of the running water.

“you almost done?”

“yeah ma, i’ll be out soon.” she replied back.

not even five minutes later you heard the water shut off and the shower curtain open. you sit up leaning your back against the headboard of the bed as you continued to scroll through tiktok.

you looked up as you heard the door to the bathroom open, watching as paige walked out in a hoodie and sweatpants and a towel in hand as she dried her wet hair. “hi ma.” she smiled walking over to you placing a hand on the headboard beside your head, leaning down and placing a soft kiss on your lips.

returning the kiss you smile softly, looking up at her as she pulls away, “hey babe. you smell good.”

she lets out a gentle laugh, “hope so.”

she threw her towel onto her desk chair before laying down in between your legs and resting her head against your thigh, letting out a sigh of content.

you two sit in comfortable silence, as paige pulls out her phone and scrolls though instagram, her unoccupied hand moving under your hoodie resting her hand on your back as she rubbed her thumb up and down softly.

you hear a video begin to play from her phone her gentle laugh following it, but what she didn’t know is that you had pulled up your camera and began videoing, pointing your camera towards her.

“paige madison bueckers.” you say suddenly.

“yeah?” paige immediately placed her phone down face up and looked up at you worried, glancing at your phone before looking back at you, “yes ma’am?” she asked, her glance softened as she looked at you.

you couldn’t contain your laugh as you saw the way she looked at you like she was in trouble for something. she looked at your phone again realizing that the camera was pointed directly towards her.

she sighs in relief, resting her forehead against your thigh, “oh my, don’t do that to me ma.” her voice muffled as her lips moved against your thigh. you stopped recording and placed your phone off to the side.

“i’m sorry baby, i saw a video on tiktok and thought it would be funny.” you explain, moving your hand under her hoodie rubbing it up and down her back softly.

she scoffed playfully, lifting her head up and looking up at you. “oh you thought it’d be funny?”

you smile at her innocently and shrug, “yeah.”

suddenly she sat up onto her knees and her hands began attacking your sides.

“no p please! i’m sorry.” you try and plead with her but it doesn’t work. your laugh comes out uncontrollably as you try and push her hands away.

after she decided you have had enough, she watches as you breathlessly lay under her. trying to regain your breath from laughing so much.

“sorry ma, thought it’d be funny.” she smiles

you push her shoulder playfully, “yeah whatever.” you can’t help but smile back at her. pulling on the neck line of hoodie, you pull her closer to you. connecting your lips in a soft, loving kiss.

paige pulls away slowly, placing a soft kiss on your jawline before laying her head against your chest. all that could be heard coming from the room was soft gentle laughs and later on snores coming from the blonde that had fallen asleep on top of you.

But this fits into something I've been thinking about recently

You know the TikTok trend of people bragging about being able to read 3 books in a day or whatever?

When you read, you NEED to take breaks, even if just short ones, to THINK about what you're reading. To PROCESS it. To make up your mind about it or formulate theories about what might happen next. That's half the fun of reading!

But when you're speed reading like these TikTok users claim they are, that's the part that gets cut out

They don't want to actually engage with the text. They don't want to learn or think

They just want to consume

So you know. Fuck them. They can read meaningless AI generated slop if they want

PLEASE don't dumb down shit for people who actually read and love learning new things!

This might be unpopular but I’m not going to use simpler vocabulary in my writing if it’s out of character for the narrator. If my POV character is a botanist, he’s going to call a plant by its name. If you don’t know what it is you can either Google it or move on just knowing it’s a plant of some sort.

I don’t like this trend of readers being angry that not everything is 100% understandable for them. I want my characters to be believable as people and sometimes people use words people outside of their field will not understand. That’s not a bad thing.

You don’t have to understand every word to get the gist of what’s happening. I’m not going to slow down an action scene to describe every weapon because someone might not know them by name. They can just assume it’s a weapon because that makes sense in the context of the scene.

Saw two posts recently and I disagreed with them for the same reason and that is, y’all better not be falling into the pit of dissing things bc they’re not “sophisticated” enough for you or something.

Like someone complaining about cutesy wutesy terms or like stupid fanfic writing. Some people be saying stuff like ‘no! You have to like real books! Only use real words to describe yourself!’ Who are you? The cringe police?

Actually the colloquialisation of language is kinda a complicated topic. Yeah we shouldn’t dumb down words and stuff when it comes to discussing serious things and we shouldn’t be calling anyone else things that they don’t want to be called. But if someone is using casual language to refer to themselves and they’re someone who can ‘reclaim’ (for lack of a better term) that language, then I don’t think it’s hurting anyone. Sometimes we need to use serious language and sometimes we don’t.

And let’s not make fun of hashtag weird fanfic or fandom (as long as it doesn’t actually promote harmful views or cause harm).

There’s obviously exceptions to both these points but my general rule is, let’s not attack things for the sake of ‘it’s weird’ or ‘different’. Being judgemental and shaming people to conform to arbitrary standards is the talking point of literally every single hate crimer. That mindset is used by ableists, racists, sexists, queerphobes etc etc. Lets not forget that.

drop the lighter. why not let the kudzu take you, become another soul caught in its throng, ready to pull another hapless soul down in with you? misery does love company, after all.

or you could light it. it's never too late to change, even if the voices of those in the kudzu around you say otherwise. the kudzu will burn, along with whatever stifled growths that suffocated under its evertight grip.

but in the charred ashes of it all, you'll be free. not cringe, not based, not basic, not fake, not whatever-other-fuckoff-lingo there is.

but it's your choice.
