so with the sneasel instincts that he has to deal with daily, do you think ingo would eventually get tired of trying to control them, and just let them do whatever for the day? because i can imagine trying to keep control of said instincts every single day would get pretty tiring
I think he only lets go when either alone or with Emmet. Like its a big deal for him to keep them in check. Though they slip when hes very upset or in distress. Its partly why hes so tired all the time. Its probably a lot of work at first till he gets used to his body. That and till hes not like in so much pain. But hes a very disciplined man after his time in Hisui so i think he can manage keeping them in check. Thouuugghhht wouldnt it be fun to see when he slips up. And what he struggles with. Though i dont have many ideas atm. Lol
One urge he has to fight i wanna say is climbing into high places. Idk if its in hisuian sneasel info but i like to think they enjoy being up high. Ingo sees a high place and just ‘i would be safe up there, let me go up there.’
Another im gonna token is clawing things. Does he wanna do it to keep them sharp? Probably. Imagine Emmet catching Ingo clawing something like a tree and gets him something for the apartment. Emmet means well but i bet Ingo hates having to use things specifically made for pokemon. Like stairs for the bed. But he is a pokemon for now and he does feel better after getting the urge to claw out. OR does he wanna claw stuff to mark it? I dont really like this idea very much but i figured i could at least give it to yall lol
Now heres a good one. Midnight egg snacks. Sneasels are known for loving eggs yes? Imagine Ingos brainrot of wanting a raw egg. It probably plagues his mind constantly xD one night he just cant take it anymore and Emmet comes into the kitchen to see Ingo in the fridge. He leaves back and Emmet can see hes got just a raw egg in there. Ingo holds eye contact as he smashes it in his mouth just yo freak Emmet out. Which works. The image will forever haunt Emmet. The sound of a raw egg being being eaten ruins this man. From then on Emmet offers to cook Ingo something egg related. Please for the love of god Ingo let him cook the eggs. Its more for his mental stability than anything else. Ingo 100% teases Emmet about it.
Another one is hiding when he naps. He probably loses out to this one a lot. Hes tired but he has to make sure he doesnt go off to hide somewhere for naps. Causes Emmet a lot of distress when It happens. Plus Ingo doesnt like his bodys hiding spots. Places up high. Under the bed. In the back of the closet. In a cabinet. The laundry basket that one time. Ok i spent like 30minutes looking for the post about that and idk what happened to it. All i know is Ingo makes biscuits like a cat before laying down. Moving on
I had some angsty stuff for this but im so tired i dont think i can remember it. Sorry fam.

Adira,
When typing on my phone a common typo happens whenever typing your name, my thumb hits 'o' instead of 'i'.  I do it often enough my phone thinks it's a word... and I don't know how many times I said I should just keep it, it cuz it's true.
I can be pretty shy... I dont know how any times I type out a comment or message and then hit back, back, back until it's gone. For all kinds of people, not just intimidatingly popular and talented people I don't know, people I feel close to as well. I think, well nah, don't want to be annoying or just... I don't know- be static.
So I am kind of wondering what on earth gave me the push to DM you after finishing chapter 4 of Losing My Religion that early morning...Haha then I peppered your DMs with play by plays of my reactions to LMR updates... ooops.. even though you told me you liked them, I still kind of feared I was annoying you.
But I am SO glad I did. (Not annoy you...sigh, anyway) I can't even imagine this whole Tumblr thing without you (as you said more beautifully than I ever could, the trees of our hearts grow such similar leaves)... and if any of our chats or my recaps helped you stick with LMR and/or branch out to other characters, when we were just wee baby tumblrfolk, and everyone seemed wanted one very specific type of Mando fic... well, I'm thinking of sending myself a fruit basket!
I am truly in awe of your talent, you make any idea, prompt and request better, you create such beauty with your words and you are so wonderfully protective of your stories and characters integrity. You make it seem so easy (though I know you work very hard and have your own insecurities). I've never seen you act, but I've heard you and yes, I stand by what I said, Ezra would want to listen to your beautiful voice reading or reciting stories and poetry. (Speaking of that, I do plan to continue with the LMR recordings)
And you coming out Salem-way and getting to hug you irl was truly a highlight of the year for me as well. It was so generous and loving of you! This is the hallmark of your personality. Generous and loving.
Kindred, sister, friend, I love you dearly! Thank you for being my friend (now I have to stop because I'm getting a teary)
I Adora!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think I read this three times through before I was able to move. And that seems weird, because you're Hazel, my Kindred, my longest pal in the Tumblrtown now IRL friend and yet I am floored like a starstruck teenager because the kindest person on Tumblr likes me.
When you came into my DMs I was shocked that anyone around here would want to talk to me, much less about my fic. And you were so so generous in your praise for LMR and, what's more, told me why you liked it and that you could see yourself in Little Bird. And that's what helped me keep at it. That I wasn't just writing a little adventure for myself to live, that someone else could have that adventure too.
You were so supportive, so funny and warm and kind, up with me at weird hours of the night...
I saw that you were often afraid of bothering and all I could tell you was the first truth which was "of course never, how could hearing such wonderful things from someone about your fic be a bother? How could kind words ever be unwelcome from someone so wonderful?" But if you ever felt you were being a bother, that is on me... I may have been shy and quiet because I could not tell you the other truth which was, "I'm sorry if I don't gush thanks right back at you, but I really can't believe someone came to my corner to talk to me and I just don't want to scare you away!"
But you took my hand and did not let go and I will always love you for it.
Then you came out of your shell and began being so very supportive of so many fandom writers with your big, beautiful heart. THEN! You started finding your own voice and writing. BRINGING GROGU TO LIFE and all the adventures at Juniper Cottage... And your Frankie.... You're the one that got me to watch Triple Frontier because I could tell you felt so strongly about him and I wanted to know more. That started me on a road of wanting to watch more of his stuff and know more of his characters. And, of course, the instigation. There would be no Bookshop without your gentle carrot dangling. And Bookshop became my heart. You pulled me gently out of my corner and into this fandom and made me feel loved and appreciated.
But meeting you in Salem, oh lady. First of all can I just say it's always been a dream of mine to be greeted at an airport by someone holding a sign with my name on it and that kind of just shook me. I know it's a dumb dream, but it's mine and you made it happen lol. And then the warmest, squeeziest hug...that was just the beginning of a lovely couple of days. I don't think there's anything more beautiful than meeting someone "for the first time" and feeling like you've known each other for ages. You made me feel welcome and adored and I had so so so much fun.
My girl. My Kindred. My Tumblr fam. Your bright soul shines here. Don't you dare erase your messages and take your sunshine away. You are one of the warmest lights here. We love to see you. I love to have you here. <3

on: rin/haru and what “grooming” actually means
apparently there is some, hm, discourse going around at the moment claiming that rin groomed haru, crediting this to their 2 year age gap. there seems to be a pretty huge fandom-wide misunderstanding of what “grooming” actually means, so i wanted to talk about rin and haru and compare it to an actual instance of grooming in fruits basket: kyoko/katsuya
tw for discussions of pedophilia, grooming, abuse and references to csa
let’s put legality aside for a moment, and here’s why: legality =/= morality. the federal age of consent in japan is 13. it doesnt take a genius to come to the conclusion that that’s a seriously wack law, a 13 year old cannot consent to sex. however, just like in the united states, each prefecture sets their own local age of consent. fruits basket is set in tokyo, and in tokyo prefecture the age of consent is 18. japan does not have romeo and juliet laws like the US, so in tokyo prefecture neither rin nor haru would legally be able to consent to one another. so let’s set those laws aside because they are irrelevant to this particular conversation. when it comes to kyoko/katsuya, that relationship is illegal both in japan as well as the united states. in fact, katsuya would at the very least lose his job if this happened in america. however age gap relationships are unfortunately still a cultural norm in many places in the world, japan included. as an american i find this pretty shocking, but it is the reality of it
for clarity: haru is a high school sophomore (15 or 16) and rin is a high school senior (17 or 18) during the events of ep 18. kyoko is an eighth grader (13 or 14) and katsuya is 22 when they initially meet.
(source for all following images) (additional source)
so lets talk about the stages of grooming.
Tumblr media
-rin did not target haru. yes, they both suffer (different degrees) of isolation, neglect, and abuse, but arguably rin is the more vulnerable one in this relationship. rin and haru are childhood friends as well as social peers, and their relationship grew from a place of mutual like and spending age-appropriate time together throughout their lives. haru offers rin support when she is in a bad place throughout their friendship, and presumably rin offers some sort of emotional support to haru in the same way, though we dont see this onscreen. so we’ve already failed step one
-kyoko is a victim of abuse. she is isolated and neglected by her parents. she has a chaotic home life and a lack of parental oversight, driving her to seek out bonds in an unhealthy environment (the gang). katsuya sees that she is a vulnerable, struggling child and targets her specifically after meeting her.
Tumblr media
-does not apply. the only time rin or haru interact with the other’s parents onscreen is when haru is yelling at rin’s parents. we don’t know how haru’s parents feel about rin, but based on the way the sohma adults around rin talk about her and the other zodiacs, i think it’s safe to assume its mild disinterest to an actual dislike. we simply do not know
-doesn’t really apply to kyoko/katsuya either since kyoko’s parents are so absent
Tumblr media
-this does not happen at all during rin and haru’s relationship. they are affectionate towards each other, but consensually and in an age-appropriate way
-katsuya doesn’t gift-give, but he does use flattery. he makes comments about kyoko’s physical appearance and her intelligence and gets her alone both in and outside of school to talk in multiple instances. he is purposefully fulfilling kyoko’s need for a positive adult influence in her life, seeing as she has none, and she starts to rely on that because she’s a child and he is being kind to her (from her perspective)
Tumblr media
-i’m running out of things to say about haru/rin because this doesnt happen! yes they hang out alone together but again they are social peers. their age gap is simply not significant enough for this to be inappropriate.
-katsuya waits until kyoko is completely isolated from her family and her peers, having left the gang and immediately disowned by her parents, to do this. he shows up AT HER HOUSE at her absolute most vulnerable moment, getting kicked out her home at 14, and informs her that they are getting married. so now she is cut off from her immediate family, cut off from her only friends, and to a child it’s understandable why the only way out of this situation would be through katsuya. not only does she trust him after months of grooming, she basically has no choice but to trust the one and only adult in her life. she’s not even old enough to get a job (japanese labor laws prohibit anyone under the age of 15 from having a job)
Tumblr media
-yes, rin and haru do have sex. they are both teenagers. it is not something where rin is exploiting haru’s curiosity about sex or vice versa, it’s two people in the same peer group consensually exploring it together. they are both on the young side for sure, but there is canonically consent (haru asking permission to kiss her). teenagers having consensual sex with other teenagers is not abusive in any way
-we don’t know when kyoko and katsuya’s relationship gets sexual, but kyoko was underage for sure. she’s 18/19 when katsuya dies and tohru was 3 or 4, which means when kyoko got pregnant she was 16 at the absolute oldest, and i’m sure they had a sexual relationship prior to the pregnancy. katsuya would’ve been around 24 when kyoko got pregnant
Tumblr media
-this simply does not happen between rin and haru. they keep it a secret for a while, but not because rin is trying to control haru. once they’re found out haru talks openly to yuki about his sexual relationship with rin. the secrecy wasn’t a control tactic, they were trying to protect themselves from outside forces
-obviously there is no secrecy here either, but after katsuya dies it’s apparent that kyoko did feel that katsuya was the only person who could meet her needs. the way katsuya took advantage of kyoko’s social isolation and became the only person in her life as well as the person who supported her financially clearly took its toll on kyoko, who is despondent and floundering after his death. she falls into a deep depression and neglects her own health as well as the health of her child. she has no idea how to function without katsuya, as is the design of someone who grooms a child in the way he did.
tl;dr rin and haru dont even come close to meeting the definition of grooming. yes, they are both young, but they are also both in the same peer group as well as both being in bad home situations. their relationship is grown out of a well-established friendship and they mutually support each other. when their relationship turns sexual, they do so from a place of love and verbally consent to one another
kyoko/katsuya is an example of actual child grooming, so much so that it meets nearly every stage to a T. it is disrespectful to peg rin of all people as a groomer when there is such a glaringly obvious example of how a groomer actually acts within fruits basket.
i don’t know how people came to the conclusion that rin is grooming haru, but its an incorrect take and tbh reeks of misogyny! hope this was helpful to people who are confused.

platonic ivan x reader. ft. am dhaegar. please. my soul needs it.
AYY this is based off a convo we had in pms. sorry this took so long HDFHSJ i just kept losing energy n stuff whoops. but anyway iVAN MY BOY!! i dont write about my ocs nearly enough lol. this is set in the future au i guess? idk its a few months after zalgo gets yeeted into a coma and his brother Am has finally decided to stop sulking in the void. and also Ivan is his pet cat
It’s...such a big house. Bigger than you thought it’d be. When they told you they were going to live somewhere among humans, you thought they’d try something...subtle. Simple. Quaint. But no, apparently their idea of ‘’blending in with normal people’’ is a gigantic, upperclass house in New Orleans. It’s so….fancy. It makes you feel guilty for only bringing a basket of cheap store-bought muffins as a housewarming present. Should you have brought champagne? Do- do they even drink champagne...?
You open the metal gate and walk down the garden path. It’s all so...rich...and white. You stop on the porch and grab the fancy door knocker. When that doesn’t get a response, you look around for a doorbell. Oh! Okay- you ring the bell and step back a bit. There’s some muffled thumps from inside, and a silhouette appears in the glazed glass of the door and then-
‘’y/n!’’ the door swings open and someone reaches out, yanking you inside. You’re hugged tight against a strong, cold body. You hear the door shut behind you. If anyone was watching you from outside, they’d probably assume they just witnessed the last moments before your murder. But no, you’re not going to be killed, even though the hug you’re stuck in feels like it.
‘’Ivan- Ivan, buddy, you’re crushing me-’’ you grunt out. You’re dropped and you shift your muffin basket in your arms. Yeah no being hugged with a muffin basket in between you isn’t good, don’t recommend. Thankfully there’s plastic over the muffins, so they’re fine. Mostly. You look up at your friend, Ivan. from the name you’d be expecting some burly russian stereotype, but no. Because stereotypes aren’t funny 90% of the time.
Ivan is tall and strong, yes, but- well- he’s not...human. He’s a demon. Specifically, a demon made of ice cream. Yeah you heard me. His hair, if you could call it that, is just some drips that hang over the top of his head like hair, covered with pink and green sauce and random sprinkles. His ‘skin’ is coloured cream and pink, with the occasional splatter of chocolate. His hands are the same, but with the addition of claws. His legs are bent, like an animal’s, and he has a large tail that swishes behind him, topped with an ice cream scoop of all things. He’s wearing his usual pink button-up shirt and blue jeans. He grins at you with colorful gumdrop teeth, the cones on the top of his head tilting up as if they were ears. You soften and smile at him.
‘’It’s good to see you too, bud.’’ you murmur. You glance around the front hall. ‘’So...this is where you guys are living…?’’
‘’Uh-huh!’’ Ivan gives a nod and looks around. ‘’Pretty fancy, huh? Never thought I’d see a loser like me in a place like this…’’
‘’Yeah, your truck out front looks so out of place.’’
Ivan turns to you and glares at you. ‘’Hey! Be nice to Vanessa!’’ he growls. You laugh a bit.
‘’Sorry, sorry.’’ you reply quickly. Ivan loves his truck. He did live out of it for years after all, so you can’t really blame him. ‘’So...is she retired now?’’ you ask. He blinks.
‘’Heheh, no. She’s got fuel in her yet. I’m just gonna stop sleeping in her.’’ he shrugs and turns. ‘’C’mon, lemme show you around!’’ you follow after him quickly. The front hall is large, with doors to either side and one at the back besides the stairs. You follow Ivan through the door at the back and find yourself in a large room. To your left is the kitchen. It’s large and modern, with not one but two ovens stacked on top of each other, AND a kitchen island. Across the wall from you is a series of full-body windows that bask the room in light. There isn’t much else in the room- in fact, the only furniture is boxes, wooden stools and folding chairs. Actually looking closer- the boxes being used for tables are from Ikea. You look at Ivan.
‘’...where’s your stuff?’’
‘’Oh! We haven’t built the furniture yet.’’ Ivan chuckles. ‘’It’s fine! We’ll get to it soon.’’ he adds.
‘’...huh.’’ you reply. Ivan looks away from you and frowns. He pads away from you, the claws on his feet clicking against the tiles.
"Am! Am, y/n is here!" He calls. You hear thumping coming from another room and then a large, eldritch creature steps into the room. He's gigantic though you know he's not even at his full size. His body is covered in soft fur, save for his hands, feet and face, which are all made of ice. A collar of bright amethysts circles his neck. He has no mouth, just dozens of eyes. The biggest one, right in the centre of his head, is closed. He has a gigantic tail, spiked with sparkling gems, and a pair of wings that are just barely visible behind him..
"Y/n!" He exclaims in a deep, but surprisingly soothing voice. How he speaks with no mouth you have no idea but at this point you've given up on questioning that kind of thing. He walks towards you and crouches down, tugging you gently into a very careful hug against his chubby, fluffy body. You laugh a bit. Am is a lot more gentle, like a kind old grandpa. You pat his chest.
"Hey big guy." You greet. He chuckles a bit and moves away. You hold up your muffin basket. "Brought you a housewarming gift."
His eyes, at least some of them, widen. "Oh!" He reaches out and gently takes the basket in his big ol hands. "Thank you y/n, you shouldn't have." He murmurs. Ivan skitters over and grabs one, unwrapping it quickly and taking a bite.
"Yeah, you shouldn't have." He parrots through a mouth full of muffin. Am pets his head affectionately.
"Yeah I did." You say with a smile. "It's a human custom. You are trying to learn to fit in with them after all." You add with a wink. Am looks surprised.
"Oh! Oh- well, alright then." He gives you a sheepish look. "Come, come, sit down. Can't leave you standing there." He gestures for you to follow him over to the other side of the room so you can sit down in one of the lawn chairs. Ivan runs after him, far quicker than necessary, and throws himself onto...a box. He lays down, curling up like a cat. Am pats his head as he walks past him and sits on the ground. You roll your eyes and go over to join them.
"So how're things back at the mansion?" Ivan asks as you sit down in a cheap blue lawn chair.
"It's alright. Crowded- since we got so many new people…" you chuckle a bit. "There's these two kids, Doby and Toby and I can't tell which one's which! They hang around each other constantly! And then you throw Cody into the mix and I have no idea who's who!"
Ivan laughs, his tail swishing. "Sounds rough," he takes the last bite of his muffin and crumples up the wrapper. "How're the kids?"
Ivan has always had a soft spot for children. Especially the ones in the mansion. "Sally is- well- Sally. She's still trying to keep everyone in high spirits. Slendra...she's become really mature honestly. She helps EJ in the medbay, she cooks meals, she cleans and gardens- she's a good kid...I think she's trying to help keep Slender from overworking himself."
Ivan smiles. "Awe. That's sweet."
"She's such a kind girl…" Am murmurs. You smile a bit. Slendra is technically his niece, and even though they barely know one another, the two seem to adore each other.
"Yeah, she is." You recline back in the chair. "So how's living together going?"
"Oh it's wonderful!" Am chirps. "All these years I watched over the human world but- living here is so much different!"
"He lost his goddamn mind when we went to ikea." Ivan says, looking at you. You laugh.
"Well- it's gigantic!" Am replies defensively.
"That's a lot coming from you, big guy." You say with a smirk. Am laughs.
"Fair, fair."
‘’So what’s your favorite thing so far? You’ve never like- done anything with humans before, right?’’ you cock a brow curiously at him. Am hums and squints a few of his many eyes. Ivan watches him curiously.
‘’Coffee?’’ he suggests. ‘’You drink a lot of it.’’ Am shakes his head. ‘’Cooking? You had a lot of fun doing that!’’
‘’No, no.’’ Am waves him off. He looks at Ivan for a long moment. ‘’...I think it’s you.’’
Ivan blinks. ‘’Me?’’
Am looks pleased with himself. He nods, then reaches over and gently pats Ivan’s head with one of his giant fingers. ‘’Yes. I think you’re my favorite.’’ he chuckles.
‘‘That’s a cop-out. He isn’t even human.’‘ you mutter.

💀🙏💍📓🤕🍵💧👽⚡ for any oc you want cause i cant decide jhgffghjkjh
leachie gecko time [smirk]
💀 Has your OC ever lost anyone to death? Multiple people? People close to them? How does the loss make them feel?
cesarine lost void older brother but voi never were super attached to him so voi don’t struggle with that all that much, but rather voi deal with his kid who lives with their mother. voi visit them often
🙏 Is your OC religious in any way? Why or why not? Do they have other beliefs that govern them in any way?
nope! cesarine is not religious at all fbvhfjbjhvfd voi dont really have a strict belief system
💍 Does your OC have a specific item that is priceless to them but may (or may not) be completely worthless to someone else? Is there a story behind this item or is it just because they like it so much?
yeah!!! cesarine have a straw hat voi have. voi nibling gave it to voi and voi refuse to get rid of it
📓 Write a typical diary/journal page by your OC! (or if you’d rather not, describe their journal. Do they keep one, why?)
cesarine keeps a journal with voi but mostly because voi are nonverbal and just use it to write out responses sometimes, otherwise voi dont really use journals jfnhvjd
🤕 What is the worst injury your OC has ever suffered? Do they have any scars or lasting physical reminders of it? Do they get sick often or have any lasting medical conditions?
right under voids ribcage theres an old scar and thats from an accident void had while trying to repair something and void got cut up really bad there. cesarine doesn’t get sick very often actually!! its pretty rare
🍵 Are there any rumours about your OC hanging around? Nasty ones or just good humoured? Got any gossip to share about them?
just that cesarine is a strawberry farmer and if you ask nicelt and offer voi a vanilla bean, voi will give you some
💧 What makes your OC lose hope, what makes them give up and feel helpless? Have they ever given up on something really important or let go of a dream? What are some of their biggest regrets? Would they ever try again (if they’re able to)?
cesarine rarely feels helpless but voi has void moments when things aren’t going right. voi have given things up before. Voi don’t really have any regrets and dont intend on trying any of voids previous aspirations again
👽 Describe your OC as if they were an urban legend or myth!
the strawberry farmer! voi harvest strawberries at the latest and earliest hours possible. some say if you leave a bunch of vanilla beans or other produce along with your name, the next day a basket of strawberries will appear
⚡ What are your OC’s phobias? Is there any reasoning behind these? How do they calm themselves down after getting scared? What are they like when they’re afraid? Is there any chance of them overcoming their fears?
cesarine is highkey claustrophobic. voi dont really have any specific instances that caused this but voi cant stand small spaces. When voi gets scared what voi like to do is go out in the field and pick strawberries until voi has settled down. when voi is scared voi will start crying. there is no chance voi will overcome this far of voids

🌹 SRY I CANT THINK OF A F/O
🌹 - Beauty and the Beast AU
was originally gonna write Gale/Andy but then i remembered stupit bitch Krycek exists and that’s what’s gonna happen. ill write Gale/Andy l8r … but for now… Mercy/Krycek … this is rlly long … oopsie (4,962 words)
“there’s a monster in the woods, Alex” his mother used to say. “it lurks, waiting for disobedient little boys who won’t go to bed on time”
“like, it’s just sitting in the woods, waiting?”
“oh for fucks sake, Alex. just go to bed please. im begging you.”
“i want milk”
“fine”
of course no one believes the stories about the monster in the woods. it’s just because their town is surrounded by thick, tight woods with very few paths in and out of it. but there’s nothing but wolves, moose, wild animals living there. it’s dark, deep, unwelcoming, but there’s no monsters.
and even when his mother went missing when he was 13, Alexei Krycek refused to believe it was anything like a monster. her horse went missing too, and he knew for a fact that it meant the wolves got them. (that didn’t ease the hurt. his mother was gone, and he was only 13. he didn’t know how to live without her at 13. but it wasnt a monster in the woods who took her from him.)
he still doesnt believe in monsters even when the Man Who Smokes Too Much takes him in, and the Man Who Smokes Too Much’s eldest son is absolutely CONVINCED that there ARE monsters in the woods who WILL come for everyone in the town unless they’re all very kind to nature.
Alex finds a reprieve in Jeffrey, the youngest Spender son. they grow close, and when the Man Who Smokes Too Much dies, Jeffrey and Alex are the ones who start to find work while Fox spends his time buried in books, studying, and reading about the mind and mythical
“Jeffrey you can’t go now,” Fox says one day. they’re all well into their twenties and Fox can’t hold a job he likes because everyone knows him as the boy with his nose in his books, the boy who used to leave out picnic baskets for the Monsters even though there was a food shortage.
“Fox.” Jeffrey and Alex say it in the same tone and Fox grins at them both but he sobers up when Jeffrey keeps packing. “i have to go,” Jeffrey says. “if i dont, we could lose the house. and out of all of us, Fox, you need this house the most”
“Jeffrey … there have been several cases of missing persons between us and-”
“if they arent traveling right, they are going to attract wolves,” Alex says. “we learned that from your father.”
“i’m still pretty sure the monster in the woods took him,” Fox says disdainfully
“grow up,” says Jeffrey. “you want me to bring back anything specific from the city?”
“actually,” Fox says before Alex can say anything, “remember those roses he brought us…”
“the day your mother died?” Jeffrey and Fox exchange a sad smile and Alex is reminded that he doesnt fit in with them. hes not part of them. he’s not a Spender or a Mulder. he’s a Krycek. his father never smoked more than enough for three people and his mother used to tell him fairy tales that would make Fox explode with happiness.
Jeffrey leaves, and Fox goes back to psychoanalyzing everyone in the town and keeping up with as many detective cases as he can. Alex works.
Alex works, and works, and works until Jeffrey doesn’t come home. it’s not the monster, he tells himself as he packs up supplies to go search for Jeffrey (or, more realistically, his body and his horse probably half eaten by wolves). the monster was a bedtime story for everyone in the town. (Fox disagreed, and gave him a spray bottle of something that smelled of lemon and onions to ‘keep the monster away’)
Alex takes his horse to go look for Jeffrey. halfway between Foxhunt and the city, he finds Jeffrey’s horse with her reins snagged on a tree. she makes a break for it as soon as Alex sets her free, but he has hope. maybe Jeffrey is alive after all. he follows a small broken path next to the tree he found Jeffrey’s horse trapped on, but the deeper into the woods he goes, the darker and colder it gets.
wolves howl. but he knows its wolves, and not monsters.
“God dammit Fox,” Alex snarls, directing his horse down the path, toward the wolf howls.
when he breaks into a clearing, his lips are blue. but in the clearing is… not a house, but a mansion. it’s not even close to being a castle, but it’s too large to be a simple house. no lights are on but the door is open. if anything, it’s a place to warm up if it’s abandoned
(it’s not. and Alex hates himself for a while after he walks in there. he finds Jeffrey, gets him out, but gets knocked out before he can join Jeffrey. he hates himself when he wakes up in a room lushly decorated. silk curtains, a thick plush carpet, soft cotton sheets and an ornate comforter. he hates himself for enjoying the rest for once, not having to share a room with Jeffrey, sleeping on a twin bed that’s too old and uncomfortable. he hates himself)
Mercy is irritated.
not one, but two people have invaded their home in the last 48 hours. they let the first one, Jeffrey, go. but Alex? he actually came into their house. he didn’t rob their garden, that they can forgive. they’re roses. their mother loved roses, and their mother probably would have forgiven someone for taking her roses after a few days. but Alex… Alexei… he walked into their home without permission. they don’t like that very much at all.
“you should really let him go…”
“Monica,” Mercy warns.
“it’s going a bit far,” says Monica. “maybe just… i dont know, make him pay you or something? but locking him up?”
“i gave him Mom’s room. the door doesn’t lock, so he’s not exactly a prisoner.”
“if he feels like one, it’s the same thing,” John points out.
“I hate both of you please get the fuck out of my living room.”
they don’t raise their voice, but the cutting glare they send them and the way they bare their teeth, fangs glinting in the firelight, send John and Monica from the room. Mercy pretends they can’t hear their whispering and heads upstairs to deal with their… Guest
he screams when they walk in, and Mercy can’t help but look over themself. they hven’t looked in a mirror in years (Monica covered them up long ago) but Monica brushes their hair. and their fur. and makes them take baths regularly. but they are wearing some of John’s clothing. maybe that’s what’s alarming.
“what the FUCK are you?!” Alex shouts, putting the bed between the two of them.
wow. wow. just wow. so Mercy grins, baring their teeth. their fangs, prominent and long, make Alex recoil. “I’m the Monster in the Woods,” they say with a dangerous growl. “and you have trespassed onto my property.”
(they hate themself for taking pride in the fear and disbelief that seem to cross his face. he recoils further, and he can’t look at them for days. he doesn’t leave their mother’s room, and John tells them that he eats only the bread and drinks only the water they give him. they hate themself for loving the power they have over people. and they hate the disappointed look Monica gives them whenever they revel in frightening him)
“Monster.”
“I have a name, darling.”
“I’m leaving, Monster. and if I never come back, it would be too soon.”
“cute that you think you can escape me.”
(he doesn’t leave. they’re human enough that sometimes he’s not scared of them, but there are times where their fur stands on end and their hair swirls in the air around them and their eyes take on a terrifying yellow color and their fangs seem to grow, and Alex Krycek cannot move past them when that happens. and they always seem to stake out the door whenever he wants to leave)
(”Mercy,” Monica says in disappointment.
“he’s not free yet. he doesn’t know how violated he made me feel.”
“maybe you like having him around,” Monica offers, flinching when Mercy’s hair starts to swirl around them and their eyes turn yellow.
“why would i enjoy the presence of a human, Monica? why would i keep him around? let him stay? he is being punished.”
“your mother was a human.”
“and humans killed her. and now i am this.”
Monica can’t argue that.)
“Doggett,” begins Alex as John sets down a tray of food. “why do you stay here?”
John looks surprised, and sits on the bed beside Alex. “Eat,” he orders. “Mercy is…”
“Mercy?” Alex asks sharply.
“the Monster. Their name is Mercy. they are… lonely. we stay because we love them. and Monica and i know deep loneliness. when we found Mercy, they were halfway between human and beast, curled up in the rose garden. we were drawn off the trails by their sobs. they lost their mother when they were very young to hunters who mistook their foraging mother for some kind of animal.” Alex looks stricken, but John continues speaking. “Mercy … attacked him, as best we can figure. they didn’t kill them, but the hunters went back to their town with injuries.”
Alex dips his bread in his soup and asks, “why are they a monster now?”
“if you didn’t believe in monsters, Alex, i don’t know if you will believe they were cursed.” Alex snorts. “exactly. but one of the hunters had married a witch who cursed them. she cursed them to become the beast the hunters thought their mother was, and to be the beast they seemed to attack like.”
“a curse,” Alex repeats in disbelief.
John shrugs and stands from the bed. “believe it or not, but you cannot deny the face of the beast that keeps you from leaving, Krycek.”
“you have a rose garden.” it’s a statement, not a question, and Mercy laughs aloud, their eyes bright with amusement.
“do i?” they tease.
“i want to see it.”
“and i want my home to return to a private dwelling with no trespassers.” they return their gaze to her book. “we can’t have what we want, Krycek.” they’re not going to show the man who only calls them ‘monster’ and not their name their most sacred spot. he doesnt deserve it if he cant acknowledge them.
“show me the rose garden, Mercy.”
they stand behind him stiffly, and he notes that they don’t look at the roses. their gaze is firmly toward the sky. Alex could make a break for it, but the roses…
for a … monster who won’t look at the roses, they are tended to quite well.
“why is this bush missing roses?” he asks. a shudder runs through him at their disgusted scoff.
“perhaps you should have asked why i was being so cruel to Jeffrey.”
“actually,” Fox says before Alex can say anything, “remember those roses he brought us…”
“the day your mother died?” Jeffrey and Fox exchange a sad smile
“ah.”
Alex ran his fingers over the stems that were missing roses. was Fox’s mother worth this? his mother … Mercy’s mother… perhaps they both were, in their ways. if Alex’s mother had loved roses, he would understand the sacrifice Jeffrey was making for his brother.
“they’ll grow back.” Alex flinches at the sudden proximity of Mercy’s voice. to his credit, he doesnt hiss when one of the rose thorns snags his palm but he does grimace at the blood. “let me see.” his body tenses when Mercy’s … hand… definitely a hand, even though they are covered in fur like a wolf with claws to boot, comes up behind his to hold his fingers open.
“it’s a cut,” he says flatly.
“come inside. we’ll get it cleaned up and wrapped.”
“you will do that for me?”
“please. I’m not a monster.”
he may keep the cut open longer than strictly healthy. but Mercy’s hands that look so monstrous bandage him so gentle and their eyes glow yellow in concentration, their tongue sticking out of their not-quite-mouth-not-quite-muzzle in a way that Alex wouldn’t call… cute, but it’s cute.
they tell him stories of their childhood after re-wrapping his hand. they speak with a fond sadness that Alex knows all too well. he lost his mother when he was young as well, and he has something of a found family too.
Mercy tells him how their mother taught them about plants, for survival, for food, and just for knowing.they tell him how their mother took them into the forest to help her forage and how once they encountered an elk so tall they thought he was a monster at first, and how he stared at them with eyes too wise, knowing they wouldn’t hurt him.
he learns about the constellations from them. they tell him how their mother showed them the stars, and that night Mercy takes him to the roof of the mansion and shows him the stars the way their mother did.
they show him some of the techniques their mother had for woodworking and they build a small bird house together.
when Alex’s hand is healed and no longer needs bandaged, Alex tells them about his own mother. they snort derisively over his mother’s stories of the monster in the woods (but for different reasons), but Mercy is enthralled with his mother’s other stories. Alex tells them which herbs his mother favored in her cooking, and how much he misses that. he tells them how he used to brush her hair and how she would run her fingers through his and sing him to sleep.
they both remember their mothers with a fond sadness.
and Alex no longer fears them, because he knows she isn’t the monster in the woods.
“come with me.”
“excuse me?”
“did i stutter, Krycek?” Mercy demands. he tenses, ready for their fur to stand on end or their hair to swirl around them but it doesn’t. they just look… impatient. not mad, just impatient. Alex heaves a great sigh and climbs out of his bed. he wasn’t doing anything, but having them treat him like a dog can become grating.
“where are we going?” he asks when they lead him from the room. they don’t answer, but lead him through the mansion to a room he’d never been to before. (in all fairness he’d never been to many rooms in the mansion.)
“here” Mercy says with a smirk. they push open both of the double doors dramatically and Alex rolls his eyes, stepping into the room after them. “it’s … it was mine and my mother’s. she was an avid book collector. so… was i.”
Alex stills as he looks around the room. it’s not as massive as a public library or a rich prince’s personal library might be, but there are several floor-to-ceiling shelves stocked with books. crammed is a more accurate descriptor. its… amazing. Fox would be jealous, and thats all the motivation Alex needs to approach the nearest bookshelf.
“you can come here whenever you want. i…” Mercy hesitates when Alex looks away from the shelves and to them. “i understand that it’s quite boring here. i… would let you go but because it’s winter… i don’t want you getting hurt on the road.”
a sneer crosses Alex’s face. “its not like i have anything to get back on.”
Mercy’s fingers twitch and whatever openness they’d shown him vanished, a darkness settling in their eyes and a scowl spreading over their not-quite-muzzle. “John has been taking care of your horse in the stables. when the snow melts, i’ll have John and Monica pack you supplies and send you off.”
“…wait. what?” Alex tracks them as they walk over to a bookshelf and piles a few books in their arms.
“you can leave when the weather is better. John and Monica will take care of you.” they give Alex a cruel look. “you don’t have to deal with a monster anymore.”
they leave while Alex is still processing what they said
(when he asks after them, John and Monica can only shrug. not even they’ve seen the monster… Mercy. they’re eating. John tells Alex that they take the meals they leave for them, but they don’t leave their room as far as they can tell.)
Alex spends most of his time in the library. Mercy’s collection isn’t as big as the town’s library, but it’s incredibly diverse, and he’s only found about ten books that overlap with what he’s already read.
he’s so involved in studying psychology books that Fox would salivate over that he doesn’t realize the time or that he’s exhausted. but he wakes up with a pillow instead of a book under his head an a thick blanket wrapped around him, his books off to the side with clear bookmarks.
John and Monica swear up and down that they didn’t go into the library after Monica took his dishes from dinner away.
(Alex thinks the blanket might smell like Mercy, but he doesn’t know what smells like them and what just smells like the house.)
he sees them once before the snow melts, and it’s from the library window that looks out over part of the rose garden. some of the roses started dying, but Alex was no botanist, so he wouldn’t be able to offer to help Mercy even if they were speaking to him.
Mercy stood in knee high snow, no coat but seemingly unfazed by the cold. their head was bowed as they held a rose in their hands. the bush was completely empty except for the one Mercy stood over so reverently. Alex watched them until they moved away from the rose, leaving it swaying in the wind.
the day the snow melts, Alex pretends to be asleep all day. he listens as John and Monica discuss what else he’d need as they packed up his few belongings (mainly borrowed clothes from John he insisted he didn’t need anyway).
Mercy didn’t come through at all. the next day, it rained and Alex used it as an excuse not to go. he went out and brushed his horse but didn’t leave.
the third day after the snow melted, Jeffrey shows up with Fox in tow.
they pound on Mercy’s front door, but they don’t show their face. Jeffrey yells at Monica and John, and Fox asks an absurd amount of questions that his host’s family can’t keep up with.
“Jeffrey said there is a monster,” Fox says when he sees Alex. Alex clutches his pack tightly, the psychology book he’d stowed away pressing into his stomach.
“it was enormous,” Jeffrey agrees. “with fangs like a wolf’s… claws! not quite a muzzle but not a human nose either! covered head to toe in fur!”
Alex snorts. “it’s not like you, Jeffrey,” he says. “to buy into Fox’s shit.”
“it’s not shit,” Fox snaps.
“and you know i’m right,” Jeffrey spits. “i saw it when i left this place. you’ve been here all winter, and you’re telling me you haven’t seen it?”
John shifts, a scowl on his face. Monica’s expression is carefully blank but three months in their company taught Alex how to spot how Monica felt. and she is angry. (had she been so angry when Alex first met them? he didn’t know.)
“ive only seen these two.” Alex gestures to the humans next to him and raises a brow when Jeffrey opens his mouth to argue. “why would i lie about something like this? if there was a monster, i would have seen it by now. but i’ve only seen people.”
he misses the dubious looks John and Monica exchange, but doesn’t miss the looks Fox and Jeffrey exchange. any further pushing gets the same results from Alex. a willing silence, secretive and cold.
“he protected you”
“he still left.”
“but he didn’t let those men try to hurt you.”
“he still left.”
“Mercy.”
“he left! he’s gone and he’s not coming back. get out! get out get out get out get out get out!”
“Alex, come inside. you’ll catch cold.”
“that’s fine.”
“you’ve been out here since dinner. Fox and i are worried about you. you come out here every goddamn night, ever since we came back. Alex, what the hell is going on?”
Alex points at the sky and traces his finger along a particular path. “Corona Borealis,” he says.
“what the ever loving hell are you talking about, Krycek?”
“it’s a constellation, Spender. created when, after Dionysus fell in love with Ariadne, Ariadne threw her wedding crown into the sky. the jewels of the crown are said to be the stars of Corona Borealis.”
Jeffrey scowled at him. “you sound like Fox.”
“leave me alone, Jeffrey.”
mid spring, about a month after the snow melted, a caravan comes through, absolutely demolished. they claim to have been assaulted by a monster in the woods.
with an ‘I-Told-You-So’ expression on his face, Jeffrey uses this as an opportunity to prove that he was right and arranges a hunting party to find and kill this monster in the woods.
Alex can’t deny it when he sees the wagon destroyed and several people injured, one person even missing an arm. there is a monster in the woods, and he thinks he knows who it is.
(he’s unaware of Fox following him when he sneaks out that night, somehow oblivious to the second set of horse hoof beats an horse snuffling)
“Alex Krycek,” greets John when he opens the door to cease Alex’s pounding.
“where are they?” Alex demands. John sighs, but doesn’t try to play dumb.
“in the rose garden.”
Alex storms out of the mansion, still oblivious to Fox entering the clearing. he doesn’t see Fox and John speaking, too focused on finding Mercy. the monster.
he believes the caravan and her people when he sees Mercy watering their roses. the not-muzzle has elongated into a full and proper muzzle and their lower half has become wolf-like. an impossibly terrifying bipedal wolf-human beast, watering roses.
“why?” he spits at them.
they still, ears that have grown to a furry point twitching at his voice.
“the roses need watered,” they say, not looking at him.
“that’s not what i’m talking about and you know it!”
this time they do look at him. their eyes are still human. still brown. Alex can remember the kind concentration when they bandaged his hand. remembers the sadness when they spoke of their mother. the excitement sharing the stars and the earth with him.
“my darling,” they say, voice thick with some unidentifiable emotion but dripping sarcastic sweetness, “i have no idea what you’re talking about.”
suddenly, words threaten to spill out that Alex bites back like bile. ‘why can’t i forget what you smell like? why can’t i forget how your hands felt around mine? why can’t i forget how warm it was to sit next to you? or how your eyes lit up when you looked at the stars? why can’t i forget the sweet sound of your voice? or how you sound when you sing? why can’t i forget how i hurt you that day in the library? why can’t i forget you?’
Mercy stops watering and cocks a hand on their hip.
“Krycek,” they snap.
“Why did you attack all of those people?” he shouts suddenly, unbidden. a bird shrieks and takes flight from one of the bushes. Mercy’s eyes widen and he watches them flicker as they take in his question.
then they laugh. throws their head back and laughs until it becomes a series of barks and they’re hunched in half to catch their breath.
“i’ve attacked people before,” they say when they can breathe again. “but that was years ago. when i found the men who killed my mother. i haven’t harmed anyone since.”
not physically, Alex wants to yell, his heart aching an racing in his chest. “a caravan came through this forest. they were utterly demolished. explain that, monster.”
their eyes harden and turn yellow as they stare at him. their hair begins to swirl around them. their lips curl and their fangs are bared.
“i have never harmed an innocent person,” Mercy, the Monster in the Woods, snarls at him. their watering can falls from their grip and they advance on Alexei Krycek who seems frozen in place. “i have harmed, my dearest Krycek, but only once, and for revenge. for my mother.” they stop mere inches from him and lean in, arms holding him still. “how dare you accuse me of this heinous act, when you know what i’ve been through. who do you think you are? get the fuck off of my property and never come back.”
he’s released with a shove, only saved from falling when Fox catches him. Fox…
“they’re beautiful,” Fox whispers to him as he helps Alex stand. Mercy’s ears twitch but they don’t look back at them, instead picking up their watering can and resuming the watering process. “is she telling the truth?”
Alex Krycek swallows. “yes,” he says, barely audible.
Fox releases him and steps forward. “what’s your name?” he asks Mercy. they snort.
“they call me the Monster.” their voice drips with bitter hatred, and Alex flinches.
“but you must have a name?” Fox presses. they don’t answer. “Alex believes you. but that means someone or something else in this forest attacked that caravan. and until we can figure out who it was… everyone will think it was you.”
“only three people outside of my home know i exist,” Mercy snips.
“And Jeffrey Spender is leading a hunting party to put you down.”
both Fox and Alex flinch when the watering can handle shatters in Mercy’s grip.
“when?”
“before sunset,” Alex supplies.
Mercy flies into a frenzy. they rush to the mansion and starts packing up everything. Alex, Fox, John, an Monica trail behind them as they tear through the mansion. the last thing they do before they speak to them is seal the library.
“take John and Monica far from here,” Mercy says to Fox, handing John and Monica the two bags they’d been packing.
“what?!” exclaims Monica, dropping the bag to grasp Mercy’s arm. they don’t look away from Fox, and Alex has to clamp down on the envy he feels.
“do you understand me?” they snarl. “get them to safety.” only when Fox nods do they look away. with gentle hands, Mercy puts the bag back in Monica’s hand. “go with them.”
“no!” protests Monica.
“please,” Mercy whispers. “please go with them. you can’t be caught in this. i can’t let you die. Monica… please go.”
“and leave you to die on your own?” demands John.
Mercy bares their teeth in what Alex thinks is supposed to be a grin. “A fitting death for a violent monster.”
they’re alone. the sun is low in the sky, nearly set, and Mercy is alone. if Jeffrey is going to kill them, this is how it should be. they find themself in the rose garden, standing before the bush with only one rose.
“i’ll see you soon, Mother,” they say to the rose, dropping to their knees before the bush. they bow their head.
John and Monica have each other. they’ll be alright without them. they might be in pain, but they’ll make it through.
Mercy once thought that when they died, no one would be left alive to mourn them. and only six months ago they were sure that John and Monica would be the only ones to mourn them. and a day ago they thought Alex hated them. four hours ago they thought he hated them. and now they know they’re leaving behind three people to mourn them.
“i’m so sorry,” they say, digging their claws into the dirt. they squeeze their eyes shut and tears leak out into their fur. they don’t move when they hear hoof beats. they won’t give the hunting party the satisfaction of killing a beast. they’ll have to kill Mercy as Mercy pays respects to their mother and mourns for those in their life.
he can’t be too late. please don’t be too late. please please please please please.
his heartbeat pounds in his ears an his legs are trembling with how tightly he’s squeezing his horse. his knuckles are bleached white and his fingers are cold as he grips the reins.
he can’t be too late. he cant be too late.
he’ll never forgive himself if he’s too late to keep Jeffrey away from them. he’ll never forgive himself if he’s too late to tell them. to save them. to be near them one more time, even if they can’t forgive him for the things he’s said.
his horse bursts into the clearing of Mercy’s home but Alex doesn’t slow to a walk. they sprint across the yard, alert for any other sounds. he hears nothing and his horse whips around the side of the house. Alex pulls the reins and jumps down before he even comes to a full stop.
“mercy?” he gasps out, stumbling into the garden.
“why are you here?”
he faces them sharply.
“well?” Mercy bites, glaring up at him from their place on the ground.
Alex stares at them for a few long, silent moments.
“i will not leave you alone. i will not let you die for a crime you did not commit.” he drops to his knees beside them and presses his forehead against their shoulder. “i won’t let you be alone.”
Mercy’s tense, he can feel it. their words come out even more tense than he’d imagined. “monsters deserve to be alone.”
“then,” Alex Krycek says to Mercy, the monster in the woods, the creature, the person he loves, “it’s a good thing you’re not a monster.”

Longest post ever. Keep Scrolling! Look away!
About my brother leaving. Now there are two sides to it. One is how he is so young & he will move so far away & has to take care of everything. He has to study first of all, which is the main thing. And this in itself is a whole new experience. Starting university & facing all the pressure & tight schedule & deadlines that come with it. And to top that all, he will move to a new country. An entirely new place he has never been to & one which is very very very different from the country where he was born & raised & literally spent entire 18 years of his life in. Now whether this is the lifestyle & culture & religion we are talking about, or just the weather. You name it, & it's something different he has to face. Let's go back to studies. The ‘studies’ part, is totally acceptable! I mean it's his responsibility. No one will or is expected to do it or help him with it. This is totally on him. He has to figure it out himself. If he needs help, he needs to look for it. If he has a problem he needs to find a way out, or deal with it. The idea of having an elder sibling or family to help you with your studies, i believe, is totally absurd when someone is moving to university. At school, it might be ok but when someone is starting uni, cmon, I think it's time to stop already. Let them grow up on their own. You can't be wiping their ass for them their entire life. Not to mention, everyone has their own share of responsibilities, their own affairs to handle. Everyone of us are struggling everyday, to build our futures. And NO. This is not selfish. This is our responsibility towards ourselves. We owe this to ourselves, and no, you are not in any way, supposed to expect anyone to actually help you deal with your responsibilities in life. So with you share of duties, is it really selfish to focus on your affairs & prioritize them? & also what good will you be really doing by helping someone? How much of someone else's responsibilities can you own? There will come a point where you’ll have to leave them on their own except that now you've already spoiled them and they'll be more lost than ever. So yeah, plus i'm not even studying engineering so anyways i couldn't do much or anything at all but even if i could have, i really never liked the whole concept of doing it in ‘uni’. I have such a strong opinion about it seeing my cousins and other people. Meaning, it's not just me randomly thinking about it and commenting but i rather did always have such an opinion about this matter. So yeah that's the only ‘okay’ thing! From now, things are changing. Now, let's talk about the end of everyday! When he comes ‘home’/ dorm room. He doesn't come home to anyone. Whether it is your siblings being lame and stupid, or your parents being in a fight, or some really good day where everyone's happy and laughing - you're not getting any of it. Is anyone bringing you food? Cooking for you exactly what you eat? No. When are you going to bed? No one cares other than you. Who’s making sure you wake up and don't miss class in the morning? Who’s making you breakfast? Filling your water flask? You buy your food if you have time before class. Such a good day, just 3 classes and you're home by 11. Who do you go home to? Yourself. Weekends? .. Nvm But we are only trying to provide the best future for him. And i can NOT disagree to this at all. Not even for a second. Since almost a year, my dad & my mom has thought of everything & every tiny thing that we will need for him. Whether it is the fact that winter clothes are sold in shops during winter and winter in ksa was 6 months ago, so keeping that in mind and shopping for him things which is just too hard to get in the shops right now cause it's totally summer rn over here! Or whether it is something more serious like meeting all the different formalities to apply for a visa. And shopping for him all these months. Making lists of everything he might need. Things like plate, glass, things like rugs, things like brush, toothpaste, things like pillows, bed sheet, things like laundry basket, warm gloves, things like rain coat. Like you name it, and it somehow is something he actually needs. Also, we are so concerned about providing him the best. I think all my life, a part of shopping included looking at the price tag and seeing if its a good bargain. But now, suddenly thats not done anymore. Anything he touches (which is very little btw) & anything we choose for him (which is like every single thing we see), its just getting the best for him. Its like theres this thing in our heads. Like this is it. My brother hardly gets anything for himself. He is kind of different. So we are just getting him all these stuff because once he goes there, he might not get it for himself. And even if he does, us getting something for him now will be the last time we are doing so. Cause from now on he'll do his stuff himself. So like i was saying. We are only trying to provide the best future for him. And i can NOT disagree to this at all. Not even for a second. And this is a stage that comes in everyone's life & we can not and should not run from it. This is the right thing to do in my brother’s case. Everything till now has gone so smoothly Alhamdulillah. But it still doesn't mean it doesn't hurt. Especially when i think of my mom. I get the whole idea of how it's the hardest on the moms. In fact i have even witnessed many moms crying & breaking when their kids had to leave and all. But. This is different. I am talking about ‘my mom’. I respect all mother’s love, i do. But about my mom; unless you live under the same roof as her, you will find it impossible to believe how much of her heart & soul & energy she invests on our family. For which, I will be forever grateful & will consider myself blessed. I will never be able to start and finish talking about her but let me mention some interesting stuff! Let's start with me! So im 21. And i don't do my laundry (none of it at all), i don't vacuum (the house or even just my room), I don't iron my clothes (never did), I don't clean the dishes (not even my own plate or glass or water flask), I don't clean my room (the furnitures & stuff) & interestingly, i don't even know how to make tea or coffee (unless it's those sachets you get, but i just use them at uni). TADA - Mom does all of that for me. I don't remember the last time i did ‘any’ of the things i mentioned. I can't say i never did any of them though, but it was only for one of the 2 reasons: 1. I was younger and mom got angry with me maybe & she’d punish me by making me do it OR 2. I voluntarily offered maybe cause it was vacation and i wasn't lazy & stuff (btw this vacation, i'm totally lazy, i never offered or did anything) So like i said, i don't remember the last time i did any of it. Infact, to TOP ALL THAT, mom makes sure of all my ‘excess’ needs too. She pays so much importance to them. Like, my diet. Diet - meaning the food i eat. Now regardless of whether im trying to lose weight or not, i totally dont like asian food, more specifically, all the daily food cooked in a bengali household. I dont like ‘curries’. I prefer ‘dry’ food. It doesnt matter what it is. Chicken, beef or veggie. If its a ‘curry’, im not putting it in my mouth. Curry meaning the whole making it liquidy with all masala & stuff. And i ‘especially’ hate chicken curry. I also dont honestly remember the last time i ate it. And i am NOT exaggerating but i stopped eating it like way back in grade 11 or 12. By chicken curry, i mean the MOST REGULAR meal in almost every bengali household, more like an EVERYDAY meal especially for the kids. And it works for my bros too lol. But no way on hell im eating it. The reason is, this is one food ive been eating since i learned to ear and then after around a pretty 13 to 14 years of eating chicken curry i had to say NO one fine day xD xD Ok now i have 2 phases: one is the normal daily phase where unis going on and i'm stressed and all i eat is junk food, or maybe something not junk but has to be all delicious or maybe sometimes i'll consider eating healthy and want some classy salad and stuff. Mom always has to prepare a different meal or me. Then she has to prepare something else for her and dad too cause chicken is kids stuff and also mom does not eat chicken at all if she is the one who cooked it so yeah. And then there's chicken for my bros xD On top of that, when im in the other phase where im trying to lose weight - Oh god. The whole menu of food changes. All green veggies and salads and stuff. All grilled chicken, grilled fish, grilled beef. She does all of that. Also. she THEN ‘decorates’ my food cause she knows i love taking pictures of my food. She decorates my food. She makes sure I like the plate on which she is serving the food; whether the plate will look good in the picture. She makes sure I get to take a perfect picture. If she gets confused about how to decorate something, she'll tell me to do it and ask me what i need. I mean man, who does that to a 21 year old???? I know i am spoiled! Now ^ i got carried away! All that is a small gesture of what my mom does for ‘me’. And i'm like her eldest kid. Like she actually thinks i can take care of myself ‘more than my brothers can’ Yeah do you see where i'm going with this? You can not imagine HOW much more she does for my bros, like ‘woahhhh’👌 I’ll just give one example for each bro. My elder bro - he never actually had to open his closet and decide on which dress to wear till now in his life!!!!! Yesss!!!!! Mom even takes out his clothes. Clothes. Every garment :):):) and keeps it ready for him to wear every time he showers, or changes, or goes outside :) and that's the one who’s already 18 and moving soon! And my younger bro - well he is kinda different. Like he is all concerned about his looks and he demands on choosing his own clothes from his closet and wearing them xD xD but then mom still feeds him lunch and dinner most of the day and he is almost 14 :):):) So yes. Idk how my mom is going to handle it. But what i know is that she is such a brave and strong and intelligent and amazing woman mashAllah. She is so hard-working & she puts aside all her sickness and pain & prioritises our needs, and our wants, even if theyre really stupid. And she means the world to me. And she is my number 1 person. And I can give up anything for her. Words cannot express how much she means to me. I once had to stay a night away from her during the 1st week of my uni in 1st year of med school. That was the night I actually realized how important she was to me. I was away from her and due to some circumstance I couldn't communicate with her. That whole night, i lied in bed crying & asking Allah to let me meet my mom in my dreams as I fall asleep now… Idk if I ever told that to anyone before, but yeah here it is. Ahhhh. God!!!!! Such a huge post wth man )@+%;’!(%)#!%(£))@!%!%) but Ughhhh I just needed to get it all out of my system! Hmphhh

Insanity Max 30 - day one
So… Finally back on the work out wagon. It has been about 4 months since I went to the doctor and started getting my health back on track, so i feel i can get back into the working out. That and I am going on a cruise in 6 weeks. >_>
A few stats: As of today I am 255lbs (original weight in December was 285), 48% body fat, and 5 11. I suck at taking measurements, and it usually just depresses me, so i go by how my jeans fit. I have sizes from 12-18 because my weight has bounced around so much in the last few years and I refuse to get rid of jeans. It’s hard enough to find a pair you like and if I lose the weight, I wont need to drop money for more.
So,  Cardio Challenge. It’s a challenge! I will be following the Modifier for the first month and seeing how i feel for month 2.
The Warm Up 2X:
Chest Open Jack, Jack Uppercut, 1-2-3 Knee, Cross Jack, High Knee Jab - The biggest modifier is that you arent jumping up and down… Which is fine by me because i am both on the second floor and a DD cup. Jumping HURTS. Not my legs or knees or the balls of my feet… but my chest. And that much jumping for a larger woman is NOT healthy. If i can keep up, I will bounce more on the balls of my feet, but I will leave jumping out of it for now.  Dont try to speed through the Chest Jacks. Focus on squeezing your shoulder blades together to get the most out of the workout.
Circuit 1 2x:
Squat Kick Right, Pike-up Spider Right, 10 & 2 - Again, the modifier is not jumping. I feel like the “modified” moves may still be too advanced/painful for people who need lower impact. On the squat kick, if I could not keep up with the “Kick” I would squat and do a high knee on that side. Or just squat. You do you, just keep moving. The Spider… yeah, no. If you are heavy/out of shape, holding your body in the correct position on the floor while doing this is intense. Instead, I put a mat under my knees and held a modified plank (knees and elbows on floor) for the entirety of this one.
Circuit 2 3X:
Medicine Ball Twist, Plank Jack + In & Out,  4 Jab + 4 High Knee - Again, modifier is remove the jumping. On the twist, make sure you engage (tighten) your abs on the downward motion. You are suppose to be pretending you are slamming a basket ball down with all your might, even though you are holding air. Plank Jacks… HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA No. If you are larger in body size and have a chest, the in of the in and out part does not work very well. Personally, when I start working out again, I cannot put my head below my heart (think downward dog) or else I will vomit. Not sometimes. Not because I am working too hard. My body just isnt used to the elevated heart rate and if My head goes down, stomach contents come up. For this exercise, I did the same as before and held a modified plank for the entity of the exercise.
At this point, you are half way through and you didnt die. YAY.
Circuit 3 3x:
Plyo Power Knee Right,  Scissor Stance Jack,  Shoulder Tap + In & Out - Again, modify by removing jumping. Both my neighbors, and my chest are okay with this. I modified the shoulder tap by holding the previous modified plank position (knees on mat, back straight, butt in, and instead of resting on my elbows, I was up on my hands) and i would lift one hand to tap the opposing shoulder and vis versa. I really feel like holding the full plank isn't the best modifier.
Circuit 4 2x:
Slap Back Jack,  Suicide Burpee,  Plank Speed Tap Right - No jumping modifier. I just shifted side to side for the slap jack because I wanted to focus more on squeezing my shoulders then the foot movements. Sometimes, people just fling their arms around to mimic the exercise, but you have to focus on engaging the muscles to get anything out of it. Also, still doing a floor burpee IS NOT A MODIFIER. -.- I used the edge of my coffee table to do the Burpee/push up part and a mild bounce on the balls of my feet for a jump. I tend to go lower as I get better, but at my current weight and fitness, the hopping in and out of a burpee doesnt really work with my body shape right now. Once I am doing well on the coffee table, I will move to the adjustable platform I have. I could barely do the jump in part of burpees when I was 180 lb because my chest is still large and my legs are long so it tends to be painful. I usually use some sort of platform or bosu for burpees. For the plank speed tap thing, I used the coffee table again and pretty much did mountain climbers. As I get better, I will use the platform to get closer and closer to the floor, as I have the same boobs/knees problems with these as I do burpees.
Circuit 5 3x:
Chair Squat,  Football Runs, 2 Jab + 2 Tuck - NO JUMPING. I am just getting back into working out and squat form is SUPER important, so I just did squats and focused on my form instead of the extra stuff. I actually really like the football runs, I just have to keep remembering to keep my contact with the floor soft.
Cool Down - so, I am awful and always skip the beachbody cool downs… because i really hate how beachbody does them. Instead, I do a little bit of yoga to stretch everything out, focusing on the muscles that I engaged during the workout. In this case, I used a foam roller on my thighs because they were KILLING me. Sitting and standing will be fun.
So far, I like the Insanity intensity with the 30 minute time period. I am much more willing to do a harder, shorter workout than a longer one with less intensity. Max 30 is big on taking a break if you need, and jumping back in and I did do that a couple times. My go to, for any at home workout is if I cannot keep up with the specific exerises, use the modifier. If I cannot keep up with the modifier, I choose an exercise I know I can do until time is up and do it. I defalt to squats and lunges because I want to make sure my form on these are spot on, so i like to do them more. Sometimes I will jog in place or do skaters (think of the motions of someone inline skating - without the skates). Anything to keep me moving and my heart rate up because I am not so tired I need to stop, but I cannot keep up with whatever exercise they are currently on. Like I said early, I HATE floor work when I am heavy and just getting back into working out because the up and down and the floor work itself is painful. Half the time is spent getting up and down.  I usually default to plank on my elbows and knees. I then work up to knees and hands. Then feet and elbows and finally hands and feet. This is another exercise I that i really like to focus on form because if you are in a downward dog like stance with your butt in the air, you arent engaging your abs which is the point. Clench your tush, bring it in, and make sure your back is straight, and engage your abs to keep you in place. It is crazy important that you have proper form on whatever you are doing. It is more important than speed or keeping up with whomever is on tv. You can hurt yourself if you do not have the right form and it will also effect your results. Focus on doing it RIGHT even if you start slow. Muscle memory will kick in at some point and you will automatically default to the correct form and wont have to think about it. You dont want your muscle memory to remember the WRONG way to do it!
We shall see how tomorrow goes! It is Tabata Power, and I love tabata work outs. Short bursts of high intensity. =)

Ok, I love lifestyle bloggers but to be honest I can never really trust their reviews of things because there's just no way I can be that motivated, consistent, organized, or self-sacrificing. But oh lordy do I try. Here's some of the "zero waste"/ "buy it for life" / "Environmental" things and hacks I've tried and how they compare to the normal products I would have used. 5/5 is going to be exactly as good as a normal product.A disclaimer- I am a young, able bodied adult woman with no kids, no allergies, and non-sensitive skin. I'm also going to be referring to products very generically, because many I bought locally but have identical or similar items all over the market. Also there will be TMI for things like body care and butts and stuff so... yeah.Saftey Razor (5/5) - I genuinely don't know how disposable razors managed to so thoroughly usurp safety razors, it is a marvel of marketing. I bought a super cheap safety razor ($20ish) and a 5 pack of blades because I was nervous and yeah there was a bit of a learning curve but not more than normal shaving? I'd say the biggest difference is the fact that pressing harder doesn't change anything and if your shave isn't close enough you need to switch angles instead of just going over and over again. I am not a patient shower-er and I have not yet cut myself. I've used it to shave every area except the Brazilian wax area. No razor burn to be seen (but again I have non sensitive skin). I dispose of the blades first in any old plastic container or can I'm getting rid of anyway before the trash, but that process may be more difficult with children who have access to bathrooms.I could see how blade removal could be difficult for folks with shaky hands, and obviously self harm triggers from the blades are present.Shaving Cream Bar (4/5) - Not as satisfying as a foam, but equally as effective. Docked a tiny bit for being very slippery to handle, especially when on its last legs. Also tough to spread around bikini areas.Cardboard Tube "natural" deodorant (2/5) - I really wanted to like this one more because I loved the smell and the idea of it, but these suckers are fairly expensive and I also seem to like,,,, crush them???? I am not raging hulk of a person as far as I know but these suckers just have not managed to keep their whole shape and "push-up-ability" for me. Also I'm a real sweaty bastard and while it smelled nice it was not workday capable without a re-application. All in all it was just too much money for a semi-crushed nice smelling stick for me to buy again.Old tee-shirt cotton pads (4/5) - I was shocked, shocked I tell you, with how well this ended up working for me. I was completely unwilling to actually sew a hem around the squares I cut from a no longer wanted cotton shirt and so I felt crazy looking at these stupid little fraying bits of scrap cloth. But I put them in an old tissue box and they blended right in with my bathroom. Applying products to the squares and then my face is exactly as good feeling as a standard disposable wipe. I used a different small basket I already had for dirty ones so I could wash them in larger batches because my morning process does not leave room for me deal with them one at a time because my life is a mess sometimes.Washing them is... a process. At first I tried hand washing but then drying was not happening and my partner did not deserve the punishment of tiptoeing through a bathroom with like 50 cotton squares just around. Also cat hair got on everything. Eventually I ended up with the solution to use a mesh bag (like for bras) and added them to my laundry load that way so they dont get lost.Honestly I would try this one if only because you have nothing to lose. You're getting rid of the tee shirt anyway, rub your face with it first and see if you like it!Silicone period cup (4.5/5) - I really like mine and it takes a bit of practice, but I'd say it's well worth the learning curve. Once you know how to do it you can pop that sucker out, wash it and pop it back in in less than 3 minutes tops. Holds like 8 hours of blood no problemo.Old clothing "paper" towels (2/5)- I wish this worked for me as well as the bathroom squares did. But between the cats and my general messiness old clothes were just not absorbent enough to clean as well as my actual wash rags. I may just have shitty clothes though. They did work well for very specific instances like wiping up a spilled drink on a flat surface, but not enough for me to be willing to have a basket of old shirts just sitting in my house.Bamboo Travel Cutlery (0/5) - No shade if you like these but they were garbage to me. I bought them because I was tricked by green-washing and cool advertisements and I wish I had just packed a normal fork.Bar Shampoo/conditioner (2/5) - While these technically did a job, they did not work for me and my partner (and we share shampoo). He has thick curly locks and the shampoo and conditioner in a bar was just not able to permeate without some very meticulous showering and we are not meticulous people. Our showers are 10 minutes give or take, and we needed something more simple. I am also a clutz and would always drop them, losing whole dollars of shampoo at a time. Some crazy shampoo/conditioner that a local hippie delivers to me in a metal tin so I only needed one reusable pump (5/5) - Hell yeah! I can't really do a good recommendation on this one because obviously not everyone is as lucky as I am to have a zero waste shop in the same city as they are. But here is my plea - give your local hippie shop owners a chance, do some intensive googling for local businesses and you may be pleasantly surprised at what you find! (by the way, if you're in the Tacoma area A Drop In The Ocean makes my shampoo)Bidet (5/5+) - Honestly I tell people who arent zero waste to get a bidet. Just get one, they're so good. Mine was like $30 and it only shoots cold water and it's still the best thing that's ever happened to me. I still use toilet paper with mine but now it's like one square at a time for drying purposes.Cast Iron Pan (5/5) - Im in love with my cast iron. It just sits on my stove and I cook everything on it. That being said, I've never managed to get it truly seasoned to be non stick on its own, I add a lil oil to it for that. I also literally dont know what all these crazy care instructions on the internet are. My father used a cast iron for 40+ years and he cleans it with water, sometimes a little soap if it's uber gross and it's literally fine. I've seen him re season it once. Not a good pan for people who have muscular troubles with their hands though, these bad boys are pretty heavy. Also side bar: Advice about cast irons online is terrible it's all so pretentious and frightening to read if you don't have background knowledge but I swear, it's super simple. All those people using big words and crazy continuous care are just like, high on their own knowledge or something. You clean the cast ironyou rub that bad boy with some vegetable oil or criscoyou throw it upside down in the oven at 375 for an hour and let coolBAM all done. It is now seasoned forever. If for some reason you feel the seasoning getting thin somewhere (maybe because you're like me and accidentally left it in soapy water overnight because I'm a sinner) Just do step 1-3 again.A mason jar instead of a reusable cup (0/5) - I dropped my bag because I'm a moron and it fucking exploded because it's glass, maybe 5/5 if you're not a moron but I'm unwilling to attempt again.Keepcup TM (1/5) - Very cute but the lid stopped working after I kept putting boiling hot drinks in it. My friend's still works fine so maybe it's a fluke, but I didn't get another.A $2 reusable starbucks cup (4/5) - Because I broke every other cup I guess. I also beat the shit out of it with no visible damage so far, including microwave, freezing, dropping and dishwasher. They are pretty thin though so I use a knit cozy so I can hold it when hot. Also doesn't seal shut.Cutting open the bottle of my swiffer cleaner so I could refill it (5/5+) - Only thing that makes my swiffer worth it. The seal is a lie, there's threading under there. The instructions linked are a good way to do it, but I literally just hacked at the edge of mine with a knife until it came off. I refill using a cleaning concentrate and it works equally as well as the original cleaner. Throwing in that I got a reusable swiffer pad set of three as well and they work great too. Just throw them in with the laundry when they're dirty!Powder Toothpaste (1/5) - Again, power to you if you can use this. My teeth felt clean but I also wanted to barf while using it. I did use it all, which I am proud of, and I did gag every time, which I am not.And finally...A metal reusable straw (3/5) - It's fine I guess. I cant really take it places with me but it's nice for when I drink at home.I am so sorry this got so long. I don't know what happened. Quarantine is just so boring. Hopefully maybe other people can leave honest reviews of them trying to live normal lives with zero waste products too and add validity to this monstrosity or maybe just point out things I missed or something. via /r/ZeroWaste

Arplis - News: Securing Your Bug-Out Vehicle Pre and Post SHTF
For all kinds of preppers planning to bug out, your trusty bug-out vehicle is likely an essential component of your survival plans.
Compared to walking out on foot hauling your heavy bug out bag, a bug-out vehicle will help you get farther, faster with drastically less effort all while hauling considerably more cargo than your own two legs can carry.
But for all the advantages they convey, your personal conveyance can be something of an Achilles heel: in any survival situation an operational vehicle may be a priority target for thieves looking to take advantage of disrupted law enforcement.
Those who are desperate to escape may also make a bid for your wheels if they are able. Even those who wouldnt steal your car would be happy to loot it if it is packed full of survival supplies down to the floor mats.
Knowing how to secure your bug-out vehicle pre- and post-SHTF is a skill in itself. In todays article, we will teach you how to do just that.
All Your Eggs in One Mobile Basket
The biggest drawback to using a bug-out vehicle for evacuation and survival purposes is that it pretty much forces you to have all of your supplies, very likely, in one basket.
If the vehicle is stolen or destroyed chances are you are going to lose everything inside it and strapped on top of it in one shot.
This can obviously be a severe blow to your chances of survival, to say nothing of what it will do to your morale; all of that planning, preparation, hard work and investment down the drain in the blink of an eye. Ugh, I dont even want to think about it.
Even if youre carrying a bug out bag within your bug-out vehicle, and you should be, lets be real: you arent going to be wearing the BOB inside the vehicle.
That means if you need to bail out, or otherwise lose your BOV youll have to grab your BOB on the way out, or risk going down to only the survival supplies you have in your pockets and on your belt. Thats not ideal.
And now we come to the real crux of the problem: in many ways a vehicle is an extremely vulnerable container for your survival supplies.
Face it, no car is that difficult to break into unless you are talking about a proper armored car and those are beyond the reach of all but the most financially well-to-do preppers. If someone can break into the car they can access the contents in most circumstances.
Additionally, if they can break into the vehicle then they have a chance to get it started and get away with it, one way or the other.
Older vehicles are typically more vulnerable to hot-wiring, but even the newest vehicle has no protection against carjacking or having the keys lifted off of the owner.
With that in mind, protecting your BOV is going to revolve around keeping the contents (thats the survival stuff you keep in the vehicle) safe and also preventing the outright theft of the vehicle itself.
Accomplishing both objectives requires an integrated, holistic approach to security. This approach will vary somewhat depending on whether it is before or after the onset of a SHTF event.
BOV Security and Protection
Regardless of it being before or after SHTF, we will keep our BOV safe from sticky fingers and prying eyes with two sets of procedures.
BOV security; steps and measures taken to protect the contents of the vehicles from unauthorized access and BOV protection; steps and measures taken to keep the BOV safe from theft or detection.
As mentioned, you will make use of both sets of procedures before, during and after the onset of a major disaster or crisis. They will only vary in the techniques and tactics used depending on the timeline.
Thats enough preamble. Lets get to it. Below youll find a handy checklist for security procedures and techniques and right after that we will dive into the details.
Vehicle Security
Pre-SHTF
Sterilize Vehicle: Remove prepper-centric stickers, decals, logos, etc.
Hide Contents: Contents should be hidden out of sight in compartments, under screens, in decoy container, etc.
Install Secure Storage: Guns, knives, and other sensitive items should be kept in hardened container installed in cabin/trunk.
Doors Locked at All Times: The majority of vehicle break-ins occur with a vehicle sitting at home unlocked in the owners drive way. Your vehicle is only unlocked when you are entering or exiting it.
Post-SHTF
Guard Vehicle: An unattended vehicle is one that is about to get broken open like a piata.
Use Security Coverings: Dont leave obviously helpful supplies in plain sight if at all possible. Keep them under blankets, tarps, etc. A moments indecision could see a thief pass up your vehicle for another, surer mark.
Bury Essential Supplies: Anything you need to keep safe should be buried under a mountain of other cargo as long as it is not emergency equipment: guns, jack, spare tire, etc.
Vehicle Protection
Pre-SHTF
Consider Manual Transmission: Most car thieves today cannot drive a stick shift. The ones that know how are either retired, in jail or dead.
Understand the Threat of Theft: Car theft is big business in some areas, not so much in others. Know what vehicles are high-reward targets for thievery.
Minimize Bling: Expensive upgrades and equipment packages will just make your vehicle a bigger target. This includes major off-road packages and obvious performance upgrades.
Employ Theft Deterrents: Things like the Club steering wheel lock along with smart parking and positioning can make your vehicle difficult to steal.
Post-SHTF
Camouflage and Concealment: In a long term survival situation, all bets are off. Use situationally specific camo and concealment to hide your vehicle from observation. What cannot be found will not get stolen.
Install and Use Kill-switch: You can also make a good argument for this in kinder times. A hidden, discrete kill-switch will prevent the vehicle from starting at all, even with the keys inserted. A nasty surprise for any thief.
BOV Security Pre-SHTF
Youll predominately want to secure the contents of your bug-out vehicle prior to SHTF events by keeping it from becoming a target of opportunity.
What does a target of opportunity look like? Simple: a vehicle that draws attention to itself or has obvious valuables, or the suggestion of valuables, inside.
It is appalling how many thieves simply go shopping for their next heist by trolling parking lots looking for the things they want inside vehicles.
Part of the above strategy is sanitizing your vehicle. What do I mean by sanitize? I mean removing all of the flair, the stickers, the logos and other accoutrement that lets you proudly proclaim what you and your identity are all about to the world.
Im talking things like gun manufacturer logos, aggressively patriotic bumper stickers, labels and decals advertising outrageously overpriced coolers or electronics or car parts. Things like that.
If you choose display that stuff, you are tipping people off that you likely own those things and that they can likely be found within. That can inform a thiefs opinion.
If you dont want to get your vehicle broken into you need to make it a point to keep your valuables out of sight. If your vehicle lacks good hiding places you might consider making use of a good decoy safe.
A decoy safe is something that looks useless and unappealing to a thief, but actually contains your valuables. Sometimes hidden in plain sight is best.
A time-honored decoy safe is an old, cruddy 5 gallon bucket with lots of scuffs, old dried paint and other stains on the outside.
Place your valuables inside the bucket, snap the lid on and simply leave it in the back seat or in the floorboard with an old paint tray and roller beside it and no thief will even look twice.
I know most of you are smart enough to keep things like wallets, jewelry and electronics hidden, but have you considered what other signs and clues may point to things like guns or other specialized equipment being within your vehicle?
You should never leave gun cases, boxes of ammunition, brass cases and similar paraphernalia in plain sight where they can be seen.
Also keep in mind that no vehicle is a secure container on its own. As I mentioned above, vehicles are easy to break into in all circumstances. If your car is broken into, anything in the cabin should be considered lost.
The trunk is slightly more secure, but far from difficult to get into. I do not believe you should keep firearms inside your vehicle at unless you are in the vehicle with them.
However, if you decide to do this you need to make it a point to install a small, lockable steel gun box either in the console, or beneath one of the seats out of sight to provide more security for the gun.
This container should be bolted to the vehicles frame or cabled to a structural member at the least.
Lastly, it should go without saying but keep your freaking doors locked! Most vehicles are broken into when they are sitting in their driveway at home, unlocked, for some inconceivable reason.
The only time your vehicle should be unlocked is if you are entering it or exiting it, the end.
BOV Security Post-SHTF
The situation is going to change in the aftermath of a major disaster, when the sky falls, people are running around acting crazy and all bets are off.
Compared to normal times the chances are very good that your vehicle will be heavily and obviously laden with all of your survival supplies and other gear.
You might even have gear stored on external racks and trailers attached to the vehicle. It will be practically impossible to keep people from seeing that you have a lot of stuff in the vehicle, so we need to protect it in a slightly different way.
First and foremost, you need to guard the vehicle. If there are people around, or if people might be around, you need to keep an eye on the vehicle. Thats all there is to it.
An unguarded vehicle is going to be ripe for breaking into, especially if you are not nearby. Do not underestimate the boldness of the criminally deranged or the truly desperate!
Another technique you should try is the use of security coverings to conceal precisely what is in your vehicle and where it is.
You wont be fooling anybody if you throw an old army blanket over your pile of prepper supplies, but it might keep someone from beelining to it if they do manage to break in.
A more effective tactic that can buy you time to respond in case someone does jimmy the door or smash the window is to bury your valuables that are not emergency supplies when youre on the road. What does that mean?
Lets say you have something very valuable to you, whatever it might be. So long as you wouldnt need it in a fight or to fix a flat tire in a pinch, go on and feel free to bury that stuff under all your other supplies.
Keep things like your guns, first aid supplies, spare tire, flat tire kit, jumper box and so forth on top and easy to access so you can get your vehicle back on the road if you run into trouble, but otherwise, make it as hard to get to the good stuff as possible for any would-be thief.
Vehicle Protection Pre-SHTF
Keeping your vehicle from being stolen prior to any SHTF festivities is mostly a matter of smart risk assessment and not making it look appealing to car thieves.
One certain way to keep your vehicle out of thiefs sights is to choose a vehicle with a manual transmission.
Yt sounds silly, but its true! Stick shift vehicles are kind of on the way out in the consumer sector except for very specialized performance and off-road applications. Most people dont like them or want them and that means they arent desirable to car thieves.
Also keep in mind most car thieves working today dont know how to drive them. All the old thieves that do are either in jail, dead or retired.
Assessing what you are up against should come naturally to preppers, and the same goes for assessing the threat of theft for your vehicle. Make it a point to learn how prevalent car thievery is in your area.
Dig deeper: find out where the troublesome spots of town are, how the cars are stolen and what kinds of cars are targeted. For instance, in the Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston areas of Texas pickup trucks, especially early 2000s pickup trucks, are most commonly targeted for theft.
In certain cities, it might be mid-sized Japanese imports or some other type of vehicle. You should learn what ideal prey looks like to the predators you are trying to foil, and then take pains to make sure your vehicle doesnt look like food.
Speaking of not looking like food, keep the bling and all that other stuff to a minimum on your car. Expensive-looking wheels, body kits and obvious performance driving upgrades will all make your vehicle more appetizing to a car thief.
Even you good ol boys are not off the hook: lifted suspensions, big bore wheels, knobby mud tires and gleaming chrome bumpers all mean bigger paydays for car thieves.
If you try to look like the gray man in public the rest of the time, why should your vehicle shout Hey! Look at me! Here I am! Admittedly, many performance upgrades including off-road ones are very useful in a SHTF situation; youll need to weigh the benefits against raising the profile of the vehicle.
Lastly, consider theft deterrent systems like the legendary Club steering wheel immobilization device.
Used intelligently with a little strategy in parking and positioning your vehicle you can make it almost impossible to steal, or such a pain in the butt to do so that a car thief working the area will look for easier gains.
Keep in mind that a club or similar device will do nothing to keep the contents of the car safe, however.
BOV Protection Post-SHTF
All the things you can do pre-SHTF to protect your BOV from theft will work, mostly, post-SHTF but you will need to be concerned with more overt attempts to steal the vehicle.
Since all bets are off on blending in to the mass of commuter vehicles at large, you should definitely consider camouflaging the vehicle with paint if you are enduring a long-term survival situation.
There are numerous camouflage patterns that can be adapted in almost any environment, rural or urban, and can be easily and quickly applied with simple large paint brushes and field expedient paint.
You should also brush up, perhaps literally, on concealment techniques. You can use brush and other vegetation, camouflage netting, large crates and boxes and almost anything else you can think of to hide your vehicle from casual observation. The vehicle that cannot be found cannot be stolen.
Also, you might consider the installation and use of a kill-switch of one form or another. A kill-switch prevents the vehicle from getting fuel or electrical power depending on the type, and is often installed in a hidden or semi-hidden place in the cabin.
Even if someone were to get the keys from you and try to hijack your vehicle they could not get it moving unless they knew where the kill-switch was and how to deactivate it.
These devices are generally more trouble than theyre worth in kind times, but in high-risk situations where vehicle theft is on the rise or prevalent they do make sense.
What about Car Alarms?!
Im not a fan of car alarms and generally think they are worse than useless from a security or vehicle protection standpoint. Ask yourself this question: when was the last time you saw any passerby respond to a car alarm?
People wont even look up when they hear one unless it goes off right next to them. Now, they can alert the owner of the car that the car has been disturbed, bumped or whatever but that is only useful if they are close enough to hear it and close enough to respond to it.
Also keep in mind the situation that you might find yourself in post-SHTF. Stealth and discretion may become virtues in a bad enough situation.
Do you want to run the risk that your horn can be inadvertently activated either by accident or by disturbance if that would draw bad guys to you or give away your hiding-place? Not a very good idea.
In fact, the vehicles horn and indeed all the lights except the headlamps are often deactivated by personnel using vehicles in high-risk situations both at home and abroad since remaining undetected is often far more important the making full use of the vehicles signaling equipment.
That is something else you might consider doing if you are relying on your BOV during a long-term SHTF situation.
Should You Consider Armored Glass?
Armored glass is a necessary component for armored packages on vehicles, but some preppers think the idea is attractive on its own for overall security because reinforced ballistic glass windows and windshields are much more resistant to other kinds of damage as well, specifically being bashed in by a tire iron or a ball bat.
While their reasoning is sound, I would not consider armored windows unless I was seeking all-around armor protection for the vehicle. The reason being is that they may become a liability in a vehicle extrication or escape scenario.
The heavy, armored glass windows will, as a rule, not be able to be rolled down and are extremely hard to break and not at all easy to kick out.
This could see you and other passengers trapped in a burning or sinking vehicle with no way to escape. Thats hard to think about.
As with all defenses and countermeasures, you must weigh the advantages against any disadvantages.
If you desire armor protection for your vehicle, armored windows with flaws and all will be a necessary part of that. If all you want is more protection against a smash-and-grab attempt, look elsewhere.
Conclusion
Your bug-out vehicle is an invaluable part of your SHTF survival plan, and you can bet on other, bad people realizing the same thing.
Youll need a comprehensive security and protection plan both before and after any crisis event that occurs.
Study up on the techniques, tactics and procedures presented in this guide and start implementing your BOV security plan today.

Temporary Car insurance fuddles? Re: excess on the owners policy?
Hi, I was looking to either rent a car for a day or borrow my sisters, now ive found a site on tempcover willing to insure me for something like 30 - 40 odd quid but the trouble is it said something about excess being in & around the 400 - 500 mark.... It also said this is the excess the car's owner has to pay.... I'm pretty certain i'll not be borrowing anyones car if its going to cost them that much - even if I offer to pay it (which I wouldnt by the way, im not an idiot lol) But does anyone know if this is like a one-off or if they mean that this is what my sisters excess will amount to once ive been put on one day insurance on her vehicle? Just im not 100% if they mean that by being insured for 1 day im gonna just basically destroy her policy for the next year lol? Sorry I know this is a bit confusing but thats why im asking ya see,, it confuses me too..... Do you know how much your health insurance premium will be going up?
I just received a newsletter from my health insurance company with these items: Health Insurer Fee to be phased in starting 2014: There will be a Health Insurance Provider Fee on premiums charged by health insurers. Some plans will be exempt, for example: Medicare, Medicaid, etc. It is estimated this will add at least 3 percent to insurance premiums. Congress anticipates $455 billion savings from cuts to both Medicare and Medicaid. Providers and healthcare facilities are expected to cost-shift expenses to commercial plans. The U.S. faces a shortage of primary care physicians (40,000 in the next decade), Oncologist (3,000 to 4000 already today), Nephrologists and -- perhaps the most scary -- Nurses (300,000) in the future according to one study. I recently agreed to be a named driver on my au pair's car insurance to lower her premiums & as I may indeed drive the car on occasions. Now I discover that I am named as the main driver which is definitely not the case. As she has made this statement, am I right in thinking that this couldn't be held to be a lie on my part (unless I then signed a statement to say this was true or similar?) What is the proper way to repaint a brand new car? Insurance question...?
I recently had my car damaged in one of our Texas storms. It caused about $4000 in damage to the entire left side, hood, and both bumpers, and knocked out two windows. I just got my car back from the insurance suggested body shop and I can still see where many of the rock marks were painted over. There are divets in the paint in a lot of spots, which is better than the metal that was showing before, but not how I want it. My question is, shouldn't they have completely sanded down the areas of the car that needed to be repainted instead of just painting over the paint nicks? The car is a 2006 Mustang that is practically brand new. Maybe I am wrong, but shouldn't the insurance company be fixing the car to the PERFECT condition it was in before it was damaged?""

Well cost my parents. I'll be sixteen this April but I won't be getting my license until July. I want to get a Mustang GT 2005 or 2006 but I think it somewhat falls into a category of a sports car so it raises the insurance right? I have pectus excavatum and I live in Marshalltown Iowa. I want to get a cosmetic procedure done called the nuss procedure. Most insurance companies say they cover this surgery. I know for a fact that my condition is severe enough that I could get the procedure done. I also want to get the procedure done out of state because the only doctor that's able to do it in Iowa blows and nearly killed 2 people. What type of insurance do I need specifically need for this? I can spend 300-350$ maximum but would like to spend 200-250$ for insurance. Pectus excavatum is classified as a pre-existing medical condition so I have been told that it would be hard for me to get insurance. Right now I have IowaCare which is a joke and only covers surgery or hospitalization in Iowa City. Thanks!!!

Trunk Insurance vs. Car Insurance?
I recently changed cities on my auto insurance going from a Cleveland, OH zip code to an upper middle class Cleveland suburb and my rates fell more than $200/half...I drive a '99 S-10, just a regular pickup truck, I am in the market for a new vehicle and ideally it would be a full size truck (Chevy Silverado or GMC Sierra half ton)...my agent has the exact truck I would like to buy, so I asked him what that truck would be insurance-wise for me. It automatically went back up to what I was originally paying in Cleveland...around $650/6 mos. Other variables of my car purchasing ordeal are that I took a buyout from General Motors and I got a vehicle voucher included in the buyout, so another option for me is to get a Chevy Malibu which I could basically drive off the lot for zero money...I've been reading that sometimes car insurance can be more than insuring a truck, with the information I've provided can someone help me out and estimate if my insurance would be more for a basic/no frills 2011 Chevy Malibu or a 2011 Silverado/Sierra with some bells and whistles...and also, do Insurance companies look at the more options a vehicle has as being more to ensure??? any answers would be appreciated""

Ok, made my decision, going with the new 2007 Mazda 3 S (with the 2.3 ltr engine and all that good stuff...not really sure on the sunroof though, it's kind of pricey) My question...s are: 1. Healthcare Insurance: True or False?
1. The Affordable Care Act does not require employers to provide health insurance for their employees. 2. No employer, in any state, is required to provide health insurance to any employee, full time or part time. 3. Employers do not have to report the cost of insurance on employee W-2s in 2011. This reporting is optional in 2011. The reporting requirement is intended to be informational and provide employees with greater transparency into health care costs. The amounts reported are not taxable.""

College basketball Power Rankings, Jan. 26: New No. 1 after upsets galore
Tumblr media
Kansas lost by 16 to West Virginia … But did they fall in this week’s rankings? (Getty)
The calls come from far and wide, every year around this time and over the next month-and-a-half, and they’re relentlessly annoying.
“The bubble is soft!”
Or there’s this variant:
“Nobody wants to make the tournament!”
They come from rational and irrational folks alike, and they’re one of the most tiresome aspects of the fierce yearly debates over who will and won’t, should and shouldn’t, can and can’t make the NCAA tournament.
They’re especially ridiculous around this time of year, when so many résumés are incomplete, and the striking lack of quality wins on the bubble is natural. A month-and-a-half remains, and it’s a month-and-a-half of repeated opportunity — opportunity that many squads didn’t have much of in non-conference play.
Let’s look at Marquette and Northwestern to illustrate. Around this time last week, the Golden Eagles would have been the exemplar of the “Weak bubble!” chatter. They were 12-6 with no quality wins. But you know what they did have? Opportunity!
Just like every single other team remotely close to the bubble has; whether that opportunity is for one or two highlights or for volume, it’s there. Just like for Northwestern, whose résumé lacks that single win of real quality, but who plays Indiana, Purdue and Wisconsin in three of its next five. I’m all for bracketology, and have obsessed over it in the past. What I’m not for is drawing broad conclusions about the selection process and its state of affairs halfway through that process.
I’m also not in favor of levying that same criticism every year when that criticism is fundamentally based on relativity. When you say the bubble is soft, what you’re really saying is that the bubble is softer than it has been in past years. And if you make the claim every year, it’s a ridiculous one that loses merit every time you make it. Maybe this is just what the bubble is, and what it has been since the move to 68 teams. Somehow, our expectations haven’t yet adjusted.
There is one thing, however, that could impair the strength of the bubble this year, even relative to past bubbles, and that’s the notable absence of non-power conference at-large candidates. The Atlantic-10 is looking like a one-bid league. The Mountain West almost surely is. The AAC could only get two. The Missouri Valley will fight for two, but might have to settle for one. That absence bumps every middling major conference team up a few spots.
And, as we transition into this week’s rankings, it’s why you’ll see a slight tweak at the bottom of the page. Those five mid-majors that we list every week used to exclude the A-10 for fear of the A-10 dominating the list. It would have in past years. It won’t this year, and doesn’t this week, so from this point forward, every team outside the nation’s top seven conferences is eligible.
And now for what you’ve really come here for:
1. Kansas | 18-2 | KenPom: 9 | Last week: 2
That glorious night of upsets has left us with a new No. 1 … but, it’s … one of the teams that was victimized by those upsets? Yep! And the rationale is surprisingly simple. Aside from all the basketball reasons Kansas belongs here, the Jayhawks were viewed as one of the best teams in the nation last week. Some had them No. 1. Others had them No. 2. Others slightly lower. So why should that opinion change after Kansas lost a game it was supposed to lose?
Vegas had the Jayhawks as 3.5-point underdogs, and the number opened at 6. Sure, Kansas has flaws, and some of them doomed it in Morgantown, but there is absolutely no shame in losing that game. We are programmed to automatically assume that winning games you’re supposed to win is significantly more impressive than losing games you’re supposed to lose. That’s why Gonzaga will be No. 1 in the AP Poll on Monday. But not here.
2. Villanova | 19-2 | KenPom: 5 | Last week: 1
As I more or less wrote yesterday, you could give Kris Jenkins, Jalen Brunson and Donte DiVincenzo a combined 17 shots from midcourt and they’d be unlikely to miss all of them. They’re even more unlikely to go 0 for 17 from three in a game. That’s what they did Tuesday against Marquette. If they go 1 for 17, Villanova wins the game. That poor shooting comes down to randomness, and isn’t a major cause for concern.
3. North Carolina | 18-3 | KenPom: 8 | Last week: 5
The Tar Heels are the best rebounding team in the country. They pull down 42.7 percent of their missed shots. Roy Williams, however, thinks they can get a lot better on the boards, which should be disconcerting, if not frightening, for the rest of the ACC.
4. Gonzaga | 20-0 | KenPom: 1 | Last week: 6
The Bulldogs are your new KenPom No. 1, which highlights an interesting divergence in our use of statistics to analyze teams that play weak schedules vs. those that play strong ones. Here’s the thing about the Zags: You have your opinion on them, and that opinion probably isn’t changing between now and mid-March. It’s not going to be swayed by a 31-point trouncing of Santa Clara or a 21-point victory over Portland. No matter how impressive or unimpressive those results are, it just won’t be. The numbers, even the ones that adjust for opponent, care whether Gonzaga beats San Diego Thursday night by 10 or by 30. We don’t. We’ll instead choose to count down the days to the second clash with St. Mary’s. We’re 16 days out as of Thursday.
5. Kentucky | 17-3 | KenPom: 2 | Last week: 3
It’s been fascinating over the past few weeks to watch the SEC try to slow down John Calipari’s crew and force the Wildcats to play halfcourt offense. Kentucky averaged 19.7 fast break points over its first three SEC games, but just 8.2 in five games since. Some coaches, like Bryce Drew, take drastic measures; others adopt less noticeable, but not less emphasized, tactics. The effect these tactics have on Kentucky’s efficiency is likewise interesting:
Tumblr media
(Henry Bushnell)
That table isn’t meant to show anything definitive — obviously fewer fast break points will induce fewer points overall — and the correlation between transition points and efficiency is far from strong. The sample size is also small. But there’s a slight hint in the numbers that keeping De’Aaron Fox and Co. out of the open floor might limit Kentucky’s effectiveness.
6. Arizona | 18-2 | KenPom: 12 | Last week: 17
Arizona is the toughest team to gage because, in a way, our sample size is only one game. That one game was wildly impressive, but it’s the only one the full-strength Wildcats have under their belt. This ranking, however, factors in those 19 games Arizona played without Allonzo Trier, in that those games have been vital in the maturity of players like Kobi Simmons and Rawle Alkins. Both were thrust into unexpected roles and forced to learn on the fly. Every success and every failure in Trier’s absence contributed to that learning, and both freshmen are better players because of it.
7. Florida State | 18-3 | KenPom: 20 | Last week: 7
Yuck. Erase that game from your memory. Shoot it into the sun. Bury it. Do whatever you need to do. That wasn’t the real Florida State. But the mere stench of Wednesday night’s performance in a 78-56 loss at Georgia Tech prevents the Seminoles from rising in this week’s ranks. They might have been a top-five team without it.
8. Virginia | 16-3 | KenPom: 4 | Last week: 10
I’m all in. I made the ACC title prediction last week, and the Cavaliers showed why I pegged them as ACC favorites in a 71-54 triumph over Notre Dame on the road Tuesday night. They held the usually efficient Irish to 0.84 points per possession, and London Perrantes connected on five of his eight three-point attempts. Virginia isn’t anywhere near the top 10 when it comes to talent, but Tony Bennett has proven time and time again that he won’t just win with whatever he has; he’ll win a lot.
9. Baylor | 19-1 | KenPom: 7 | Last week: 9
Baylor has won its four Big 12 games since the West Virginia loss by 10 or fewer points each, and it has done so with defense and Johnathan Motley. Motley got 15 of his 25 points from the free throw line in a 65-61 win over Texas Tech. He’s the only Bears player whose offensive rating has actually risen in Big 12 play, and his exploits have vaulted him to No. 3 in Ken Pomeroy’s stats-based player of the year rankings.
10. West Virginia | 16-4 | KenPom: 3 | Last week: 8
The relationship between West Virginia’s ability to force turnovers and its field goal percentage defense, and specifically how that relationship played out in Tuesday’s win over Kansas, leads to an interesting discussion. West Virginia ranks 96th nationally in opponent effective field goal percentage (eFG%) and first in opponent turnover percentage. Against Kansas, the Mountaineers forced turnovers at a rate well below their season average, but held the Jayhawks well below that opponent eFG% average too.
So how much of that relatively mediocre field goal percentage defense is due to the extended aggressiveness of the press? And how much better would it be if only halfcourt possessions were taken into account? On possessions following a made basket, per hoop-math.com, West Virginia opponents shoot 54 percent (eFG%) on attempts within the first 10 seconds of the shot clock — much of them likely after breaking the press to score — but just 43.1 percent (eFG%) in the final 20 seconds of the shot clock. (Note: For other top defensive teams, the former number tends to be slightly higher than the latter, but not to the extent it is for West Virginia.)
This is not at all to say West Virginia should stray from its Press Virginia identity. It’s to point out that the players Bob Huggins recruits for his system are naturally very good halfcourt defenders too, and if a game needs to be won defensively within 30 feet of the basket, as was the case Tuesday night, those players are more than capable of doing just that.
11. UCLA | 19-3 | KenPom: 18 | Last week: 4
UCLA spent the first two months of the season hypnotizing America with its high-powered offense. It sprinted to a top-five ranking, to national title contender status, and to the top of the college hoops entertainment index. It also blinded us to the Bruins’ dirty little secret: They can’t play defense. For three of four halves against Arizona and USC, the weakness was painfully clear.
But, perplexingly, it was UCLA’s offense that ultimately let it down against its crosstown rival. The Bruins scored a point per possession Wednesday night in a loss to USC; their previous low had been 1.06 against Texas A&M. On paper, a team full of dead-eye shooters and competent passers should have been able to rip apart USC’s zone; instead, turnovers (13 in the first half) and a lack of patience ripped apart UCLA’s offense and doomed Steve Alford’s team to a second straight loss, and fourth in a row against the Trojans.
12. Louisville | 17-4 | KenPom: 6 | Last week: 15
Louisville fell in these rankings last week solely because of the Quentin Snider injury. In light of that expected drop-off with Snider sidelined, the Cardinals had one of the most impressive weeks of any team, hanging with Florida State on the road before delivering Pittsburgh the second-largest margin of defeat the Panthers had ever seen. The 106-51 beatdown was the biggest by a road team in the history of the ACC.
13. Oregon | 18-2 | KenPom: 16 | Last week: 11
UCLA swept the Rocky Mountain road trip earlier this month. Not many teams do, though. Oregon gets a crack at it starting tonight at Utah. The Ducks were 2.5-point underdogs as of late Wednesday night, which tells you most of what you need to know about the size of the task.

Let’s talk midseason awards. If the NCAA tournament were to start today, who would be your National Coach of the Year? For me, there are five candidates, and Mike Brey and Chris Holtmann are two of them. Sean Miller, Scott Drew and Tony Bennett are the others. Perhaps Bob Huggins is a sixth. Both Brey and Holtmann are outstanding teachers of the game in every sense, and their educational abilities are apparent every time you watch Notre Dame and Butler play.
16. Wisconsin | 17-3 | KenPom: 10 | Last week: 16
Over the past five or 10 years, basketball has evolved away from the one-through-five positional distinctions that frame so much of how we think about lineup combinations. There aren’t many better examples of that evolution in the college game than Wisconsin. Bronson Koenig is the “point guard” in the traditional sense: He often brings the ball up the court, is (tied for) the shortest player in the starting lineup, and usually guards opposing ball-handlers. When Wisconsin has the ball, though, from the 25-second mark of the shot clock to the end of the possession, his role is far from that of a traditional point guard. Here’s a blind statistical comparison of Wisconsin’s big three, Koenig, Nigel Hayes and Ethan Happ:

(Henry Bushnell)
Can you guess which player is which? Probably only if you’ve studied the Badgers beforehand. Player A is Hayes. Player B is Happ. Player C is Koenig. Hayes and Happ split the playmaking duties while Koenig is essentially Wisconsin’s shooter and perimeter scorer. It’s still fine to call Koenig Wisconsin’s point guard; in a way, he is. Just make sure you’re aware of the limits of what the words “point guard” denote for Greg Gard and the Badgers.
17. Cincinnati | 17-2 | KenPom: 17 | Last week: NR
The Bearcats make their 2016-17 Power Rankings debut because of … their offense? Yes. Mick Cronin has had a top 25 defensive team every year since 2010-11. This year, he has his highest-ranked offense since that 2010-11 team. Sophomore guard Jacob Evans is shooting 41.2 percent from three and is a big reason why. Cincinnati is rolling through the AAC, and is a 4-point favorite over Xavier Thursday night in the Crosstown Classic.
18. Purdue | 17-4 | KenPom: 11 | Last week: NR
ESPN’s Myron Medcalf wrote an outstanding feature on Caleb Swanigan, who was 360 pounds and facing all kinds of instability in his life as an eighth-grader. Tuesday night, Swanigan dropped 25 and 17 on Michigan State, the program he had committed to play for before flipping to Purdue in May of his senior year of high school.
19. South Carolina | 16-4 | KenPom: 28 | Last week: 18
I spent some time last week speaking with former Frank Martin players — both Gamecocks and Kansas State Wildcats — to get a sense of what it’s actually like to play for him, and why his seemingly incessant screaming works. I also learned why he’s mellowed a bit in recent years. Here’s the feature.
20. Duke | 15-5 | KenPom: 15 | Last week: 12
In all honesty, approximately 35.4 percent of the reason Duke is here is to make you angry. I don’t know if you’ll be angry because the Blue Devils are too high or too low, but Duke inevitably makes people angry. Anyway … another 42.1 percent of the reason is to plug Jeff Capel’s piece on The Players’ Tribune on coping with his father’s ALS diagnosis and on the bonds that tie his family together. Roughly 12.6 percent is to tell you that I may or may not have some in-depth Duke analysis coming tomorrow. A further 10.1 percent is because Duke still has top-10 talent. And the final one percent is to see how many readers get angry that those percentages are just totally random and don’t add up to 100.
Five more to keep an eye (or two) on: Florida, Marquette, SMU, Iowa State, Kansas State
Best of the mids: St. Mary’s, Illinois State, Wichita State, UNC-Wilmington, Middle Tennessee State
Previous rankings: Jan. 5 | Jan. 12 | Jan. 19

Arplis - News: 19 Under The Bathroom Sink Organization Ideas
Your bathroom might look pristine and Pinterest worthy, with DIY soaps, elegant and ornate mirrors, and sweet-smelling shampoos. But, the moment you open up the cabinet underneath the sink, it looks like a scene from Inception.
Visually, everything exists, but all the items are in disarray and scattered haphazardly. It doesnt take a genius to figure out how to organize under the sink, which means, you or I could do it in a heartbeat! You just need a few products and tips to change the cabinet from looking dumpy to clean. Warning: Actual cleaning required, so get down and dirty!
1. Tension Rod For Spray Bottles
Credit: Homeroad
Its quite a difficult task to wrangle in the spray bottles every time you need the Windex or Lysol. You probably knock over 3 spray bottles just to get the right one, am I right moms?
Install this tension rod under the sink either behind the cabinet door or inside the cabinet. You can easily hang those problematic spray bottles on the rod. Youll never have an avalanche of bottles when you open the cabinet door again.
This rod leaves less space below for other items. However, since the spray bottles hanging on top will take up a larger majority of space, mount the rod as high as possible for better results.
2. Using Your Spice Rack
Credit: I Heart Organization
When life gives you spices, put them in a spice rack. Use spice racks that are longer, lengthwise, to conserve more space within the cabinet. In this case, anything in the bathroom sink.
Mount a spice rack with adhesive strips according to the size of your bathroom cabinet. Install a few small racks on the back of the cabinet door for easy access, and store anything from cotton buds to nail files.
3. Stick A Pin In It

Adding a bunch of clothespins to the inside of the cabinet, either on the door or the back, or side is a great idea! Store all your gloves, and toilet brushes easily on these hooks, and avoid those early morning oops-I-tripped-on-the-toilet-brush accidents!
It saves space compared to adding a bunch of bins inside the cabinet. Its quite easy to access any item once its on a hook or pin. Mount the clothespins either with adhesive or with screws, but make sure they are sturdy so that they can take the weight of the cabinet items.
4. Good Things Come In Small Shelves
This Expandable shelf can comfortably fit in your bathroom cabinet. Its extendable, given that it can stretch from 15-25 inches, and fits all those pesky sponges and spray bottles that keep falling on the bathroom floor. Its also quite affordable, and the structure of the rack will not interfere with the sink pipe since it incorporates the pipe itself.
Check outthis shelf.
5. A Sliding Drawer In A Cabinet
Yes I know it sounds a little weird. A drawer inside a cabinet? But its definitely effective. This 3-tier storage structure is a sliding drawer with 3 tiers. So you dont have to conserve space and choose between storing soap or towels.
Store both! Its easy to assemble, space conservative, and sturdy. So store all those spray bottles and your nail polish, this drawer will not collapse! Now even your essential oils and lipsticks have got a home.

Is your pipe taking up all the valuable storage underneath the sink? Its probably annoying you to the point where you end up placing containers on the counter. And knock those over too. Clumsiness is in everyones genetics!

These containers can also be stacked on top of each other, making it more space conservative. Rearrange the containers around the pipe to avoid clutter, and youll be golden.
9. Corner Caddy
Honestly, this product is my favorite. If the pipe under your sink takes up too much space, which happens quite often, use this caddy. It is small, compact, and can be stored in the corner of your bathroom cabinet.
It can store little items like essential oils, face creams, or any other bathroom necessity. Its also portable and easy to clean! Treat your bathroom items and toiletry like royalty using this pedestal stand. It stores all the hand soaps and incense that you keep losing track of. It gives you some extra space to the already existing under sink storage, so you can store all those extra and pretty items that your sturdy bins dont have room for.
The circular rod on top also allows for a few towels to be stored, so this pedestal storage is versatile and functional.
12. Adjustable Storage Shelf
This shelf expands and is flexible within the dimensions of your small or big cabinet. If you find it difficult to fit the shelf along with the enormously annoying sink pipe, reposition one of the slats around the pipe. This way you can fit your products, and not worry about the pipe simultaneously. Its easy to clean, and quite cheap. Whats not to like?
Buy this adjustable and expandable shelf.
13. Using Waste Plastic To Store Hair Tools
Credit: Family Handyman
Do you have any plastic jugs or old PVC pipes lying around the house? Stop. Drop. And put it in the cabinet. Use adhesive at the back of the PVC pipes, cut to proportion, and then stick it on the wall of the cabinet. Or, cut proper pieces from an old plastic jug and use adhesive and stick it on the wall.
These pipes act as a personalized holder for your curling and straightening irons. Always make sure your irons are cooled down before you put it in the plastic holder. Otherwise, it will melt. Obviously. Taking care of heat products 101. This way, you dont have to spend extra money on a specialized holder. You save money and the environment by reusing plastic.
14. Stackable Organizers
Although medium-sized bins and shelves are great for bigger items, what about the small nail polish bottles or makeup you want to store? Not to worry, this product stores exactly this.

17. Pocket Organizer
This organizer is see-through making it easier to see exactly what you own! Always important when you want to choose Windex and not Lysol from a disorganized cabinet. If you cant buy a pocket organizer, cut a shoe organizer in half.
You can use adhesive, or thumbtacks to attach the organizer to the cabinet door. Make sure the pockets are sturdy and dont easily tear under the weight of each item.
18. Lazy Susan Hack
Are your band-aids and cotton swabs in disarray? Use this lazy susan hack to reorganize your medical items. Now your vaseline, ointment, heat patches, and cotton swabs will have a home instead of staying messed all over the house, and under the couch.
