4. what made you choose this muse?
and
29. what are your honest thought about your muse’s canon?
So what made me pick Atem out of everyone, for real and for trusies?
I have a crush on the character.
Honestly that's what made me wanna rp him in the first place. Young Nikki fell in love with Atem alllllllll the way back when Battle City debuted and I started looking at arts, doujins, the like. I fell for him HARD. Seeing him be so cool, calm, and collected and just a fucking badass, protecting Little Yugi and just being so awesome. It made Little Nikki wonder... that can't be... all he is, right? A hard exterior, yea but... he has to have a softer side like everyone else, yea?
WHICH BRING US TO...
My thoughts on Atem's canon. He needed to be himself more. For the longest time, yes, he was just the Other Yugi, coming out when things got too rough for Yugi or when someone needed that bit of confidence boost. The date with Anzu showed us just a glimpse of the ACTUAL Atem: a fucking dork who doesn't know emotional cues AT ALL and just wants to play games, as shown when he stops in front of a game shop and Anzu's like "You want to go inside, don't you?" Throughout the whole anime, he's been shown as the stoic Nameless Pharaoh. But, ah... name ONE stoic/emotionally sound individual at fucking sixteen, when he was crowned. I'll wait.
Because of this, and I know I'm in the minority, but THAT'S why I love Doma, even though it's a filler season. With Yugi mostly out of the picture, we finally get to see Atem, the actual Atem. Broken emotions and all (aka the shit I write)
So while I appreciate the stoic, just, and noble Pharaoh just as much as anyone else, I wanted to see his more emotional and honest self more often. That's the purpose of this blog tbh. To write a more emotionally honest Atem, not the hardened one we see on screen.

★~★~★~★~★~★~★~★~★~★~★~★~★~★~
Many weeks had passed, you were unable to sleep some nights, you were exhausted. Your eye bags showed that fact of being unable to sleep, you couldn't admit it. But you missed your boyfriend.
But he wouldn't be home for another three weeks. It was to the point where you'd fall asleep on FaceTime calls with him. His voice was so soothing to you.
Cody wasn't going to tell you, but he was coming home early. He came back at 5:36am, he walked into the house. To see you and Pharoah snuggling on the couch both asleep.
He stayed silent and put everything away, it was still early. So he set his alarm on his phone for 10:00am. So he'd get a little sleep at least.
His main priority was making sure you actually slept. Cody laid his head down on his pillow and drifted off to sleep.
◆~◆~◆~◆~◆~◆~◆~◆~◆~◆~◆~◆~◆~◆~◆~◆~
He awoke to his alarm at 10:00am, you weren't awake yet still asleep on the couch. The TV faintly playing the infamous movie 'John Wick'. You seemed to have fallen asleep watching the movie. Since you had the remote nearby.
Cody walked over to the couch, and moved the remote away from you gently as not to wake you. Since you were so peaceful. It looked like you fell asleep right before he walked in.
He went back upstairs and fed Pharoah, then he came back downstairs and sat at the dining room table. and filled out a couple papers for the meet and greet that was in two weeks.
He headed back upstairs to go print out something, on his way back down. He heard you softly mumble and saw you shift in your spot.
you grumbled softly, before sitting up.
"Fuck... what time is it? I fell asleep at 4:10am.." You said, getting ready to get up.
you looked at the time and it read '10:05am'
"Ugh.. I'm still tired.. but I have to feed Pharoah." You sighed, standing up
"No you don't love, I already fed him." Cody said
"Cody.. I thought you weren't coming home for another three weeks?" You said surprised
"I got home early, Jimmy Uso got injured at the house show. So everyone got two weeks off. As a result of that happening." Cody sighed
"Oh.. Ok... what time did you come in..?" You asked
"5:36am.. I went to sleep before getting up at 10:00am" Cody explained
"Sorry I wasn't up before you came home.. I was just tired and fell asleep with Pharaoh since he wanted pets.." You said.
"It's fine, love. I understand your tired when your tired." Cody said
You and him spoke a little longer. And you hugged him as soon as he walked over to you.
you were so happy he was home..
Next thing you know, your pinned to the bed. Moaning and begging for release. As Cody fucked up into you harder.
"Please... Master..." You whimpered
"Just a little longer, m'kay princess?" Cody said
"M'kay..." You said
He fucked up into you harder and faster, making you physically see stars. But you missed the feeling so you'd let it go..
"Sh-Shit... please... master...." You couldn't hold it any longer, you wanted to burst into tears.
"Cum. Go on." His words sent you over the edge, with a moan of his name. You came.
"F...fuc...fuck..." You said wearily
Cody continued to fuck you through your orgasm, making you moan with each thrust.
You were a mess at that point. The cries and pleads turning into moans and begs
"S...Si...Sir..." You cried
"Yes Princess?" He asked
You tried to say something but your brain was so heated you couldn't say anything.
He fucked up into you once more, making you moan. And you came a second time.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~❤️~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You were on your 12th orgasm of the night...
Cody basically forced 9 of the 12.
But you didn't care, you were exhausted after everything ended. Cody pulled you up gently and ran a bath for you. Got everything that was messy cleaned.
You glanced at the clock and it read: '11:59pm'
Your body settled down in the tub immediately, you relaxed..
The overstimulation washing away. You did a couple deep breaths.
You got out of the bath, and Cody had your clothes already set aside for you. The usual.
His shirt, your shorts, his hoodie.
As soon as you got in the bed, you wanted to fall asleep. You rolled towards Cody and fell asleep while listening to his heartbeat..
Hey, are your orders open? if so could you do headcanons of the yugioh characters reacting to s/o who has an obsession with the mystical elf card?
Nah cuz I had to search up the card cuz I forgot what it was 💀💀 also I was using a different fanfic site and just saw it so I kinda rushed to get dis done lmao 😭
Yu-gi-oh boys reacting to their S/o having an obsession w/ the mystical elf card
Tumblr media
Yugi Muto
He honestly didn’t notice-
I mean he picked up on how constant you used it and talked about it but at the same time he does that to a lot of cards in his deck so didn’t think anything of it
He’ll listen to what you’re saying always though
Doesn’t matter how many times you have been talking about this card, he’s gonna act like it’s his first time hearing about it from you
He got you a keychain that had the mystical elf on it because he knew you would like it but he didn’t know you would like it that much
You were basically jumping with joy on this
He was too-
As long as your happy he’s happy
He listens to you repeat the same story over and over and over again about using the Mystical elf card and doesn’t get tired of it ever
“Ok so like I was battling this one dude who was all about offense and guess what?!?”
“What?”
“You have to guess Yugi!”
“Uhh, let’s see here… you used a spell card?”
“No! I got the mystical elf; she protected me and she helped me not lose…”
“Oh wow.”
“She really is my guardian angel. She must have sent you down as a gift for me.”
“She really is spectacular… and you know who else is?”
“Who????”
“You.”
“Yugi!”
Tumblr media
Yami Yugi
He’s always listening
He loves to hear you go on and on about her; it doesn’t matter if it’s 1am or 4pm, he’s always interested in what your saying
He got you a rare mystical elf card for your birthday and you burst out in tears
He’s definitely in love with you and while he doesn’t tell you he shows it in multiple ways
Lots of people get upset when you repeat a story but he’s the exact opposite
He gets happy knowing you’re so happy that you forgot that you already told him this
Yami always says that you only hot headed when it comes to the mystical elf
The amount of times he cleaned you up after getting in literal fights all because of that card
So when he gets hated on you just say their ‘insecure’ but when it’s about the mystical elf you’ll get in a fight?!
Starting to sound like you love the card over him
“Ok! So the other day I was heading to the grocery story and these imbeciles where talking about how ‘ThE mYsTiCaL eLf Is StUpId’ blah blah blah and I walked over to them and started a fight!”
“Well maybe next time don’t go up to them.”
“It’s their fault! They threw the first punch!”
“I know but I don’t want you to get hurt… sometimes you have to let things go.”
“Hypocrite.”
“No I just want you to be safe and not die from some weak kids that have nothing better to do then fight random people.”
“Whatever…”
“Tell me, how did you first ‘fall in love’ with the mystical elf card?”
“You should know better than anyone how you can fall in love with your cards pharaoh.”
“I know but I love hearing your stories.”
“Is it because you love me, Yami?”
“Maybe.”
Tumblr media
Joey Wheeler
He understand completely because he’s the same way towards his Red-Eyes Black Dragon
If you are hot headed and get into lots of fights about it then you’re even more alike
You and him are constantly venting about the amount of people that don’t appreciate these cards
Neither one of you are talking about anything else except this stuff
That’s all of your conversations every single day
What’s his favorite color? Don’t know you never asked him that. You’re always talking to him yet you never asked him what his favorite color is? Correct.
My bro is poor af and so are you so both of you have little to no merch
Unless it’s Christmas or your birthday you ain’t getting shit
Sorry not sorry
He’ll try to draw you the mystical elf but it turns out looking like a blob with leaves on it
You guys are always talking about which one is better
Neither one of you win the argument though
If you are a little violent and use that as a way to make people like your favorite card then expect him to be cheering you on… from a safe distance
You might be able to fight but he sure as hell can’t
“Go baby! You can do this!”
“Why don’t you come over here and help me why don’t ya!?”
“Didn’t you say you were independent!? Why do you be needin’ me!”
“2 is better than 1!”
“So?? Since when did you care!”
“Since now! Your over there tryin’ to act slick by leaning against that wall like you’re the one that is beating up these people meanwhile I’m over here working my ass off!”
“I’m not just ‘lEaNiNg AgAiNsT tHe WaLl’ I’m cheering you on too!”
“Yeah from 30ft away! Joey get your ass over here and help!”
“They’ll win!”
“You know they said that they found the Red-eyes Black Dragon useless.”
“Count me in!”
Tumblr media
Seto Kaiba
Bro definitely acts like he doesn’t care
And it’s true-
Bro could not give a single f whether or no you like a card or not
I mean he definitely doesn’t constantly buy you things related to the Mystical elf
It doesn’t matter how expensive it is
If it looks nice then it’s yours
In Kaiba corp he has a whole room dedicated to the merch that he bought you and you couldn’t fit it in your house
He be buying so much it’s as if he’s the one in love with her
He’s not obsessed with her though, he’s obsessed with you
Not that he would ever tell you that
Not to mention the stuff that Mokuba gets for you
Dating Seto is like a two in one package
You get a boyfriend and a loving younger brother
Seto will subtly tell Mokuba what you would like and Mokuba will make/draw it for you
Sweetest boy alive oh my Lordy
Seto acts like he’s annoyed by your rants but honestly he doesn’t really care
He actually loves them
You usually sit in a spiny chair while he sits in his office chair, working, and you just talk about your day
And the mystical elf card of course
He will always tell you when you repeated a story
“Ok so the other day I was out, just walking around you know? Then all of a sudden I saw this guy in the alleyway and- ”
“You told me this already.”
“Oh right! Well there was also this time where I was at the mall and-”
“I was with you.”
“Oh. Well how about this one time where these two guys were trying to gang up on me because I ‘insulted their favorite cards’ by saying that mine was better-”
“You pressed the alert button on your watch that day and my guards took care of that.”
“Oh haha! I forgot!”
“I can tell. Why don’t you tell Mokuba about your day? He was asking how you were today. I’m sure he would enjoy seeing you.”
“Ok I will! I have a couple things to give him anyways! Bye Seto!”
“Be a little more quiet will you, please.”
“Oh sorry.”
"It's no use, you've already lost!" Weevil Underwood snickers as the Other Yugi draws for his turn. "This foolish king doesn't know when to give up!"
The Other Yugi shoots a glare in the insect Duelist's direction over the card he's just drawn. He summons Breaker, the Magical Warrior in attack mode. Though its attack points initially read 1600, they immediately raise to 1900.
Weevil grins. He activates a trap card, Infestation, that lowers the attack of every monster on both their fields by 100, and inflicts that loss as damage to the owner's lifepoints. Yugi's drop to 500, Weevil's to 3800.
"Oh that's right, I said I'd tell you how to save your partner after this duel, didn't I? But you're going to lose when you end your turn and Poison Butterfy saps your last 500 points!!! What a shame, the look on your face would've been priceless!"
Other Yugi doesn't flinch this time. This pest has been trying to burrow under his skin the entire Duel, he won't let him crawl inside now. He stares his enemy down with abhorrence in his eyes.
But Weevil doesn't stop talking.
"It's killing me not to say it!! Okay, you know what! This Duel is decided, and it's not like your butch little girlfriend over there can save him without you!!"
"Hey!! Come over here and say that to my face, you worm!" shouts Téa from her place on the next traincar down.
"Calm down already, I'm trying to be nice!" Weevil snaps. "Little Yugi's soul is sealed inside a card, and I know where to find it~"
"Why would I believe a lying pest like you anyway?" the Other Yugi hisses.
"Because~~~ My new employer trusted me to win so much--" as he speaks, Weevil reaches his free hand into the pocket of his shorts. After a few agonizing moments, he holds up a Duel Monsters card, reversed, showing Yugi only the back. "--he gave it to me!! Thought I might need a hostage to get your fighting spirit up again, oh Nameless Pharaoh ! Hyuk hyuk hyuk!"
Time seems to stop, even as the scenery rushes past the speeding train.
Other Yugi's eyes go wide.
His heart skips a beat.
Could it be...?
No.
It's more of Weevil's psychological warfare.
Just more taunting.
But could it be...?
Would Doma have really just handed him Yugi's soul?
That was ridiculous--
But it was always the Pharaoh they really wanted--
So could it be--
"You're about to join him anyway, but the least I can do is let you hold onto your precious little partner while I crush you. Come and get him~~" Weevil waves the card back and forth, tauntingly.
Absently, possessed by desperate desire to see his other half again, Other Yugi takes a step forward.
"Yugi, what are you doing?!" Téa gasps.
Weevil laughs. "Wow, it's that easy?! We're in the middle of a Duel! You can come get him but you're gonna forfeit if you do, you know~~!!!! Hyuk hyuk hyuk!!"
Other Yugi stops dead in his tracks, but his eyes stay wide. Téa's voice behind him feels far away. Everything feels far away
His eyes fix on that card.
His chest feels tight, and his pulse pounds in his ears.
It's just another trick, right?
Is it really Yugi...?
He steps back.
"That's what I thought. Well! Since you don't want it, let's get back to the game!" As he speaks, Weevil takes the card between both hands. "No more distractions~"
The cardstock tears easily, straight down the middle.
And Other Yugi's heart stops.
His stomach drops, the blood freezes in his veins.
An agonized scream tears from his throat. The cards in his hand bend as he clenches around them, bringing one fist to his head, the other to his chest.
Weevil just laughs as he lets the two halves go flying off in the rushing wind.
It takes him a few seconds to regain himself, to drops his hands and raise his head. But when he does, it isn't sorrow on Other Yugi's face anymore as he stares down his enemy.
His breaths come as ragged growls, his body shaking with rage. There's murder in his violet red eyes.
"Holy shit, you should see yourself right now. Seriously! You look like some kind of wild animal, hyuk hyuk hyuk!!! That's no face for a king! And over a useless Pillroach, too!"
"What?!" Other Yugi roars.
"Do you seriously think I'd just rip up a card like that? Yugi's soul??? That would be the most valuable card on Earth!!!!! You really are a stupid king, maybe that's why they really erased your name."
"You're the fucking worst!!!" Téa shouts.
"It was a joke! Not my fault you guys are so sensitive!"
But Other Yugi is still shaking with wild rage. "I'll kill you, you bug!" he snaps.
Weevil's laughter stops.
Yugi activates Breaker the Magical Warrior's effect, destroying the Insect Barrier that's been preventing him from attacking. That effect costs Breaker its attack upgrade, dropping it down to 1500. Then, he can attack again with the very Poison Butterfly that Weevil had given him, destroying the only monster protecting the Insect Duelist. Then he attacks again, sending Breaker directly at Weevil's lifepoints.
As the dust clears, Weevil smirks. "That's it? You don't have any monsters left to attack, and Poison Butterfly's effect will drain you out....!!!" He giggles gleefully. "So I still win!!"
"I didn't say 'turn end'," Other Yugi growls.
Weevil steps back. "Now you're bullshitting!!" he cries.
Other Yugi activities a spell called Berserker Soul. He has to discard his entire hand, but that's just fine.
This is the last turn, anyway.
Berserker Soul's effect lets him keep drawing and discarding from his deck, attacking with a monster on his field whose attack is 1500 or less every time, until he draws a non-monster card.
And Breaker's attack sits at 1500 now.
The Pharaoh draws, and Queen's Knight is promptly discarded. Breaker attacks, dropping Weevil's lifepoints from 2200 to a measly 700.
Yugi draws again.
Gazelle the Mythical Beast.
Weevil's lifepoints drop to 0.
But the Pharaoh isn't done. He draws again. Big Shield Gardna goes into the graveyard, Breaker attacks, and Weevil screams.
The Seal of Orichalcos makes every attack real, inflicting pain beyond any solid vision hologram.
But Other Yugi isn't done.
Alpha, the Magnet Warrior.
Weevil screams again.
Yugi draws again, Dark Magician Girl.
Weevil screams.
And Yugi draws again, another monster.
Another monster.
Another monster.
Another--
Finally, Téa's seen enough. This isn't the Yugi she knows. This isnt the Other Yugi she knows, either. She's seen his Shadow Games, she's seen him at his cruelist before. She was there, though blindfolded, when this same man set an escaped convict on fire to save her. She knows what he's capable of.
But this?
This gruesome overkill, this feedback loop of violence he's caught in now?
This isn't him.
"Yugi stop, you already won!!!!!!" she screams. Despite the wind of the speeding train, she jumps across to the car where Yugi and Weevil duel grabbing her friend's hand as the Seal of Orichalcos shrinks in on Weevil.
"Let me go!!" Other Yugi cries.
"You already won! His lifepoints are zero! It's over, please!!! You're spiraling!" Téa begs.
The look in the Pharaoh's eyes is wild as he tries to catch his breath. He's panting, shaking.
Across the field, Weevil is already on his knees, the Seal already faded.
As stillness falls, Other Yugi is able to pull away from his friend's grip. He charges across the traincar to shake a lifeless Weevil by his shoulders. "I won. You promised, so tell me! Where's my Partner!!" Tears stream down his face as Other Yugi begs. "Tell me where my Partner is!!! You promised!!!! Answer me!!!"
Téa's heart breaks. "He... He's gone.. You know that--"
The Pharaoh screams again, shaking Weevil's lifeless body harder. "Weevil!!!!!!" he cries. "Where is my Partner?!?!?! Where is he!!!!!!!"
"Yugi stop!!!!"
Finally, the Other Yugi lets go of his enemy. He falls back onto his own knees, staring helplessly at his own hands.
No.
These aren't his knees.
These aren't his hands.
Téa comes closer, putting a nervous hand on his trembling shoulder. But what can she say...?
As she searches for the words, the runaway train cuts her off with a sharp, loud whine as it rounds a bend. A sound like an explosion splits the air as the brakes give way.
It's all she can do to scream his name again as the traincar, with Yugi, Téa, and Weevil's lifeless body atop, go careening off a cliff.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A lot of things upset Delilah, But nothing upset her more than not being able to see her little sister unless they were in court or at an event, The final day within court to determine who Kinsley would be living her life with was next week, Lilah hadn’t properly seen her in a month & August was slowly creeping in. It shattered her heart & everyone noticed the effects to this occurring. Cody became concerned as he took noticed that everytime she came back into a room after “freshening up” her eyes would be swollen & red, The way Lilah would no longer walk into a room with a certain glow on her face to light up any room her friends were in slowly killed Mira & Cody.
Most days she would sit there stressing over whether or not she would win this court battle against her own parents. She would sit in Cody’s home studying things she needed to know for situations like this, it began to become an issue with her sleeping as Cody woke up & found her in the kitchen at 3:30 in the morning reading over her court documents. “Sweetheart it’s late you need to get to bed” he yawned out while taking any pieces of paper away from her while she frowned sitting down. Cody’s heart was broken just seeing his little sunshine so down in the dumps. He crouched to her level & held her hands “Baby I understand you need to pay all of your attention on this in order to get Kinsley but that does not mean you risk your health every night by not sleeping.” He spoke to her in a manner that he knew she would listen to. She frowned flumping into his arms before breaking down into tears & begin to cry.
He shook his head and picked her up & carried her back up into his room before placing her on the bed and getting down to her level “I know this is scary, It’s scaring the shit out of my honestly not knowing how Kinsley is doing tonight but I know for a fact your going to go in that courthouse next week with the class you hold & Kick ass, It’s okay to be worried & afraid but it’s not okay to affect your sleep, that’s where I need to draw the line sweetheart.” She frowned nodding understanding his words before giving him a gentle kiss “We’re in this together alright? You & Kinsley mean the universe to me, and you know I simply will not allow for them to just up and take Kins away from you without me getting involved.” She smiled sadly at his words while he got up and helped her change clothes & put her hair up before finally going to sleep together for the first time in weeks.
Noon slowly strikes the clock the next day while Cody leans against the door frame watching Delilah get the proper rest & sleep she had been missing out on for a long time. His dog Pharaoh laid right next to her pressing his cold snout against her neck huffing and whining at her awoken absence until Cody quietly shuffled closer to the bed petting the Husky’s fur before getting back up but hearing random foot steps creeping up the stairs soon seeing Mira who held a container of food she made for Delilah “How is she?” Cody got up sighing “Well she finally got sleep last night around 3:50 & I’ve been letting her rest while I go over the papers & memorize everything I possibly can. This entire situation is killing her.” Mira nodded slowly and frowned “We should absolutely be getting 100% Custody over Kinsley, I have years worth of evidence within footage, quoted words & people to back me up to prove they aren’t fit to have custody over Kinsley.” She spoke while looking over Cody’s shoulder seeing Lilah still knocked out like a light. “We all play a part in this.” She muttered out before holding up the container “It’s a whole lasagna, don’t microwave it, it’s gonna take disgusting, put it in the oven instead.” She instructed before handing him the container. “I’m gonna go & clean up the shop for a little bit.” She told him before saying Bye & leaving his house.
For the next few days Delilah would rest & Study as much as she possibly could and have Cody help her go over things she would discuss involving her parents, Paparazzi was becoming a slight issue whenever the two were out handling things or simply walking out to refresh Delilah’s mind, Once the court day finally arrived everyone agreed to meet at the court house. Delilah adjusted her dress and helped Cody fix his suit & tie before he stopped her for a moment and kissed her “Your gonna go in that goddamn building & your going to get Kinsley back permanently, Seth will absolutely be there if we need to get shady understood?” Lilah nodded with a slight smile before patting his jacket before they both left the house and went to the courthouse.
Everyone stood outside & waited for Mr & Mrs. Jones arrival & once they did Kinsley went up to hug Lilah & Cody while Seth & Mira traded dirty looks at the duo before he spoke taking off his glasses smiling at Delilahs father while Mira turned for a millisecond to adjust Randy’s tie “Your screwed.” Delilah’s father glared at Seth & glanced over towards his two daughters “Enjoy the moment for now Delilah, we won’t allow your sister to live her life with her failure of a sister.” Mira was surely glad to record almost everything she possibly could because he just fucked over their entire side of the case. Cody glared stepping towards him “Your lucky to even be her father in the first place because if you weren’t you’d be on this ground right now.” Cody warned before pressing his hand against Delilah’s lower back while holding Kinsley close to his leg “She’ll be sitting with us as-well.” Her mother glared and scoffed before everyone went inside. For the first 30 minutes it was the judge listening to their parents speak in a way that it was clear they we’re unprepared with certain questions and panicked.
But once Lilah was asked to speak they were fucked. “Your honor I would like to state that my Parents have never been healthy people to live or be raised by, They kicked me out at the ripe age of 17 once they discovered I wanted to own a flower-shop which is now successful today. I had to stay with my bestfriend Mirabella in a small apartment before I saved up enough money to have an apartment and shop merged together, My parents were enraged when they discovered I did not want to go into college & follow the path they pre set for me which involved going to Harvard & & Marrying someone with money.” She addressed before continuing on while opening a few folders Cody set down on the table the two sat at. “My parents are known by multiple of my friends & Significant other that they are not capable of holding the emotional support a parent should give to their child. Most of my childhood & Kinsley’s early years of growing up consisted heavily with Verbal abuse, Emotional abuse & negligence, my close friend Mirabella is here within court to come to my defense with various evidence.”
The judge nodded his head & soon brought Mira onto the soon where she soon began to provide proof to come to Delilah’s defense, she included a freshly voice recording just from earlier of what Delilah’s father said to them & a variety of other voice recordings, pictures & other things. The judge soon spoke out asking as to why they did what they did when Delilah first opened her shop. “Your honor we have a belief that gods plan for Delilah was to become a Harvard student & marry someone who is not only intelligent but wealthy enough to care for her. Selling flowers & dresses simply is not a good enough plan to live from.” The judge quirked up an eyebrow “But yet she seems so be making a very good life for her & her sister, she has a home, she puts food on her table, You believe God created earth correct? And one of the things god also could have created were the flowers Delilah herself sells to people in beautiful bouquets so it seems she is doing just right on her own, perhaps this career choice of hers was god’s plan?” Her parents were baffled that they weren’t to be sided with.
Cody sat next to Kinsley & held her hand as he became nervous once the room was filled with silence before Seth cleared his throat “Your honor may I add onto the discussion? They had mentioned she was to marry a wealthy man to take care of her correct? Well if you’ve noticed by now my close friend Cody, The blonde one.” Seth pointed in his direction before standing up “Delilah is in a relationship with him & I’m sure she sees a future with him not only that but he fits well into the wealthy criteria to not only take care of Delilah but also Kinsley if she got full custody of her little sister.” Seth pointed out before adjusting his coat “Infact I’ve done a little research into Mr & Mrs jones, Mrs jones hasn’t had a job since atleast 2013 & Mr Jones barely makes 19k a year, Now this doesn’t make Delilah a gold digger or anything, actually she had no clue who Cody was for a long while so she authentically got to know him, sold him a few bouquets, Honestly she could care less about the wealth.” Cody quirked up a brow & squeezed Kinsleys hand when he noticed her parents becoming furious from the embarrassment Seth stacked on-top of them.
Delilah’s lawyer that Randy & Mira got ahold of verbally cornered Mr & Mrs jones by asking questions & causing them to backtrack, She was kicking ass in this case & interrogated their parents is the harshest way possible which caused Randy to grin.
Cody soon stood up and spoke up “I’d like to add onto what Seth just pointed out, Delilah is 23 years old running a Flower shop & Boutique and yet still keeps her attention diverted to Kinsley, Before summer break Kinsley would immediately come to the store after school & Delilah would have lunch & Dinner prepared for her & even managed to find the time to help her with any sort of homework while dealing with customers at the same time, Delilah is a young woman but yet she still plays an amazing role as a parental figure for her little sister & provides her space within the apartment they live in, meanwhile Kinsley & Delilah’s parents quite literally rip doors off the hinges telling Kinsley she is responsible enough to earn her privacy.” Cody grabbed one of the folders and pulled out a photo that Mirabella took which was clearly hard evidence on his claims and held it up and set it down in front of the judge “Delilah is one of the most powerful women I know, How she manages to juggle a business & her responsibilities as a parental figure by helping with bake sales, Soccer games Kinsley has been apart of & even plays I have yet to see her parents do the same.” He pointed out before ending his rant and sitting back down next to Kinsley.
Her father became enraged and started throwing a tantrum making Randy snort which resulted in Mira kicking his foot shooting darts at him with a certain look “Don’t you fucking dare.” She mumbled before adjusting her seating position. The judge requested everyone to wait outside while he made the ultimate decision, the hallway was filled with pure silence until her mother walked by scoffing “You’re the worst Delilah, Honestly, we truly do not understand how we could have raised such a failu-“ she cut her off by standing up and getting in her face “I’m the failure? You couldn’t raise me for shit! You ripped fucking doors off the hinges & refuse to give a goddamn 10 year old some fucking privacy, I’m so goddamn exhausted with you barking and bitching about what I chose to do with my life when I just find out I make more of a goddamn income than the two of you combined!” She chewed out her mother while Mira stood against a wall with crossed arms, Just as Delilah was about to walk off her father grabbed her arm digging his nails into her arm which made Cody bolt up along with security and push him off of her “The hell is wrong with you!?” He shouted before making Delilah sit down while he started pointing his finger in her father’s face “Let me find out you put your hands on Kinsley like that, Let me find out.” He glared before shoving hier father back & crouching to Delilahs level checking her arm before Security permitted everyone to go back inside. Delilah walked back into the room holding Kinsleys hand while sitting down as the judge cleared his throat.
“After today’s session I have come to the conclusion that Kinsley Jones will no longer be housed with Mr & Mrs Jones, Delilah Jones & Cody have earned 100% custody over her, The parents of Kinsley & Delilah are not to be allowed near Kinsley or have her with them unless they are given the permission.” He finished while Delilah smiled out relief and squeezed Kinsleys hand before they were all dismissed, Mr & Mrs jones were forced to leave in a separate area away from Kinsley while everyone stood in the hallway, Delilah crouched onto the floor hugging her little sister tightly before Cody had joined in on the hug before making Delilah stand up and giving her a rushed kiss “Marry me?” He blurted out randomly which shocked Mira & Delilah but she assumed he was just joking but he shook his head quickly “I know it’s random sweetheart, I was extremely unprepared I don’t even have a ring yet but I’d rather let you pick, Please?” Kinsley hugged the side of her sisters leg just as surprised before Delilah nodded in a rushed manner & Pressing her lips against his while seth patted Cody’s shoulder
Cody pulled back for a split second but got pulled into a hug with Mira which left him shocked until Mira gave him a warning “If you break her heart I will fucking castrate you.” She muttered before pulling away smiling before Kinsley hugged her leg tightly “Thank you.” Mira looked down and grinned before holding her dress down while crouching to her level “Your welcome sweet pea.” Kinsley smiled widely while everyone got ready to leave the Courthouse.
But there was yet to be a completely happy ending, While they got to enjoy some things for now there were also going to be temporary downfalls.
Long Ago, Chp 8
The Sphinx's Joke
The death of Princess Cleo hurt everyone in the Pharoah's city. Literally, in most cases, since Pharaoh Ramses sentenced every monster in the land to be punished. Princess Nefera declared a monster had murdered her sister so all associated must suffer. The royal guards were supposed to interview and analyze each situation; none took the time with that protocol. All creatures of the city, be they monsters or humans with deformities or disabilities or at the wrong place and time, tried to hide. Some who still put faith in the Pharaoh gave themselves to the guards, since they promised to listen to faithful. In seven days' time, the DeNile's city was smoke and fire.
Lt Medusa led many refugees across the desert to other cities. She's given up on the city that hated its own people. She hated the city that stole her son. She searched for the boy, listening to all the rumors of his possible death or hiding place. Medusa had to choose to help a hundred others and pray to Olympus that her son would meet her again in this life.
Draculaura had broken Deuce's neck with a bite. He'd tried to fight her coven in a fruitless effort to save Princess Cleo. Draculaura didn't agree with her coven following Princess Nefera's orders. She wished she'd arrived sooner to help her friends before Princess Nefera had suffocated her sister in a sandstorm. The Night-walker was outnumbered and she wished she'd spoke up sooner about mistrusting Princess Nefera. The most help Draculaura could give was drag Deuce back to her room while he recovered.
 Draculaura kept Deuce hidden in a fortress of pillows. Draculaura cried for days after the death of her friend. She tried to talk about her grief with Deuce but he couldn't speak. The gorgon's bones and muscles healed quicker than a human. He was quiet as he healed, and as he grieved.
"We were outnumbered. You can't blame yourself." Draculaura said as she sat next to the gorgon.
His eyelids were red from crying stone tears. "I don't just blame myself for not being fast enough. I blame Nefera, and all the Nightwalkers, and everyone in Medusa's pacifist camp. Hell, I blame Cleo for being crazy, privileged, rebellious, genius, crazy hot, bold, human...."
The Night-walker in the pink toga sat next to him. She didn't have anything wise to say so sat in miserable, companionable silence.
Draculaura and Deuce were transplants to Egypt. The big, glamorous, spared-no-expense funeral was painful on level they wouldn't have predicted.  The decorations were tasteful with blooms from all over the Known World. The sprinting dancers and rare animals shocked and delighted the funeral goers. The enormous buffet was too shiny and artfully sculpted for anyone to dare eat. Everything was lush, high class and reminded the monsters too much of their lost friend.
The gorgon borrowed Draculaura's pink robes. His snakes rustled under the covering as he watched the Night-Walkers mingle with Cleo's relatives. No one looked heartbroken or devastated and Deuce regretted not convincing Cleo to run away with him when she still could have. The time had passed. The gorgon eyed the fountain of sparkling wine. Then he eyed Clawdeen and Ghoulia walking through the palace's door.
Draculaura sped-walked to her werewolf love. Clawdeen had her arms open wide and squeezed her dear vampire. Draculaura looked up at Clawdeen and allowed her eyes to get misty; Deuce couldn't handle more emotion, but Clawdeen was stronger. Clawdeen was the strongest monster she's ever met, and considering she was over ten-hundred-years-old that was saying something. That something Clawdeen read in her eyes and reciprocated with only a sad sigh.
Deuce approached Ghoulia, arms open for a hug, and she walked right past him. The gorgon nodded in understanding and walked in the opposing direction.
"How is she?" Draculaura asked as she linked her arm in Clawdeen's. The coven would see, and Draculaura wanted them to see.
"She use to be undead. Now's she's just dead." The wolf-woman said. She saw the coven, a dangerous gang of ruthless elites that saw her as an animal and gave them a grin.
The Night-walkers shot Draculaura a warning look. She was scared but put her nose up as she and her lady walked to the wine fountain.
Above the fountain was an image of Cleo carved in stone.
"Do you remember when we met Cleo?" Draculaura asked as they filled their goblets. There were frozen rubies for the drinks.
"She busted in demanding the moon and stars. I denied her crazy requests, she listed her connections because wealth made up for personality. Cleo was mean, sharp and went right for the weak point I didn't know I had." Clawdeen said, "Then, we traded design ideas and fabric swatches."
"She kept asking me when you and I would get married, before I even realized how much I..." The Night-walker said as she held Clawdeen's lower back. She wanted to prove her love but she was still afraid of her coven's punishments.
The Night-walkers gave miserable stares, directly at Draculaura. Clawdeen knew it was monumentally hard for them to be in the same place and touch in front of the coven. She lowered her lips to Draculaura's forehead, not a kiss but a smush of her nose was enough to implant courage.
"Hello again, Clawdeen." A sweet yet male voice said behind the monsters.
The ghouls turned to see Prince Seth Ptolemy. His mask was handsome, disgustingly wealthy and had kind eyes. They had only heard about him in passing from Princess Cleo.
Truthfully, Cleo described her shoes more frequently. Prince Seth glided over to the monsters, an attendant beside him. Clawdeen was shocked to see the prince had a cat-woman beside him. Not behind him like regular servants.
"Your highness." Draculaura said with a bow. Clawdeen kept her posture and met the prince in his sparkling eyes.
"Hello, ladies. You were friends with Cleo I believe." Prince Seth said.
Draculaura gave a sad smile, "We were. Very good friends. How did you know her?"
"Our parents are, you could say, acquainted. We've met a few times at parties like these She would listen to my poetry." Prince Seth said casually.
The cat-woman holding the Prince's lyre cleared her throat. "She was also your betrothed."
Clawdeen spit out her wine. Draculaura patted her lady's lip with a napkin.
Ghoulia didn't drink, it hurt her stomach. The rest of her soul was in agony so she should have taken the drink anyway. Ghoulia couldn't take a sip because if she took a sip, she would lose her mind and start chomping every brain in the room.
"Give the signal and I'll bust their heads open." Deuce said as he held his empty goblet to the fountain for a refill.
The undead ghoul wouldn't speak, and she definitely wouldn't speak to him. She kept her sights on Princess Nefera, laughing as she pushed guests out of her walkway.
"You'll never forgive me and that's fine. I'll never forgive me either, but I want you to know something." The gorgon said, and then took a long drink. "She loved you more than me."
Ghoulia's gulp was soft and inaudible.
"You are always her first concern, she always quoted you, and she just loved you so damn much. My jealousy couldn't compete-" Deuce put his burp in a fist, "You are, like the coolest person in this city and you should go the forum."
"Your mother already requested my presence." Ghoulia stated. "You have to know how much she loved you, too. You made her focus, made her laugh. I use to like being your friend."
Deuce leaned down and asked desperately, "What will it take? I don't want to lose you as my friend."
"Bring Cleo back from the dead."
"Jump in the Nile." Deuce said; he heard her be dry before but that was cut-to-the-bone-too-soon-dry.
Ghoulia grabbed his wrist. "I'm not kidding. I'm talking about magic and DeNile back-up plans."
"I don't want to tell you how I last saw her, and I think we both know she's going to be thrown to crocodiles later." Deuce stated. He attended funerals in Egypt before and for strangers-near-acquaintances he use to think returning to the River of Life was cool. Not cool enough for his Cleo, though.
"That's what the average people do with their dead. The royal family are a little more.... creative." Ghoulia said, finally meeting his glass-eye-wear.
Princess Nefera looked at the stone image of little Princess Cleo as an infant. She saw her toddler-self stand next to her, holding a scorpion behind her baby-fat-thighs.
"I am so sorry to say, Finder, but I cannot bring the dead back to life." Gigi said, her only wish was to  go back and time and warn the nice Princess of her fate. She could have, but only if Princess Nefera wished so.
"Oh my Ra, what are you good for? Thank Gods I don't want her back." Princess Nefera said, chewing on jumbo shrimp.
A low growl had Nefera stiffen. She turned to see her father, the Pharaoh, staring at the image beside her.
"I am torn, Nefera." The Pharaoh began, "On the one hand, you took my child. No father should outlive his daughter, especially when she was promised to the Ptolemy prince and our respectability is the appeal we have to such a powerful family. On the other, you are a DeNile and no one steals the thrown from a DeNile."
"So you're not mad at me, Baba?" Princess Nefera asked, her voice went high.
The Pharaoh's eyes burned on Princess Nefera's teal head, yet his voice was calmly cold. "My daughter, I am furious. Your mother is devastated, and you've forced me to break a promise I made to my first born."
"Uhh, I'm your first born." Princes Nefera remind him, as he had reminded her every day of her life and after death.
"You shall fulfill your duty as princess and take your sister's place as bride to Seth Ptolemy." The Pharoah said.
"Uggghhhhhhh, but Daddy! That boy is so boring! And I don't want to get married." Princess Nefera whined.
"You will take the Ptolemy's hand and unite our families." The Pharoah said in a low, gravelly voice that left no room for argument.
"Wait, Cleo isn't really dead?" Clawdeen asked as the monsters huddled behind the tower of basbousa.
"No, she is dead but the royals have secrets and this us a chance to bring her back to the land of the living." Ghoulia explained, "It's complicated but a chance."
"Oooh, I love a rise from the dead. Really freshens the skin." Draculaura said with a giggle.
"I'm willing to try whatever. What do we do?" Deuce asked.
Ghoulia raised an eyebrow at her friends. "Do any of you mind a little unpredictable danger?"
Their collective answers were nonchalant 'sures'.
"May I convince you not to try?" Prince Seth asked, poking his golden nose into their group. "I am sorry for you loss, but waking the dead after only a few days, well, the oldies consider that gouache."
"Leave Cleo dead and the city will burn, thousands of lives lost!"  Clawdeen said, barring her canine teeth.
"Politics are a little more than the words of one royal." Prince Seth said.
A fury hand tugged Prince Seth's expensive sleeve. "Your mother said you'll have to marry Nefera."
Prince Seth's eyes bulged out of his mask. He turned his head to Nefera, sitting on a servant's back as other servants rubbed her feet and brushed her hair.
"Gods help me. I'll help you, friends. Cleo deserves better." Prince Seth said, he turned to his cat-woman-servant. "Please, distract Mother and the others."
"Don't be quick, be smart." The pink-eyed woman said. Prince Seth stared at his servant. Clawdeen noticed her tail curled around his leg.
"Normie, beside a big allowance, how are you helpful to us?" Deuce asked; it wasn't personal and he barely knew the prince but the dislike was strong and real.
The human prince waved his hands as to halt their actions, "I know what to expect in the tunnels."
"I know better." Ghoulia stated.
"I am certain that is true, lady Ghoulia. So how about you take me as an extra sacrifice offering? I'd choose anything besides marrying Nefera."
The monsters and the prince left the party. They walked through the palace to a room of jackal-men statues. Ghoulia touched one of the small statues on a mantle. She twisted the head, it clicked like a toy.  The wall rumbled and split open. The entrance was night in the early day.
Clawdeen and Draculaura lead the group, their magnificent eyes glowed in the dark. The others carried torches. Down the stairs the steps grew narrow, Clawdeen lead them and Draculaura held up the back.
"The tunnel looks wider further down. It looks like a room." Clawdeen stated, though the words also sounded like a question.
"The rules are we aren't supposed to wake up who's down here. It's not just Cleo they're trying to hide." Prince Seth said, "But we're already here, so let's get passed the traps."
The monsters looked into the 'room'. It seemed to be a hallway; solid gold walls and gems finely placed into hieroglyphics.
Ghoulia held out her thin arms to block her friends from the entrance, "No one walk in. It's a trap, like the prince mentioned."
"How do we get pass it?" The werewolf asked; she remembered hunting traps from back home. She remembered her siblings had to get hurt before learning to see them in hiding.
"Anyone want to take the first test?" Ghoulia asked, she considered picking the shortest reeds from a hand. Too bad she didn't have any in her back pocket.
Deuce rolled his shoulders, "Clawdeen, give me a claw?"
The werewolf apologized to him as she twisted a snake off his scalp. The equivalent of ripping off a finger, Deuce bite his hand as his very strong friend freed a serpent. Ghoulia applied a wet cloth to his bleeding head. Clawdeen sweetly petted the little reptile, and then she set it inside the hallway. The snake slithered across the titles of the hallway. It went across a ruby-red title and was shot with glass darts.
"Damn. Poor little bro." Prince Seth said, patting the gorgon's back. Deuce gave him cold look to have him stop the touching. Prince Seth took the hint and crossed his arms behind his back. It annoyed Deuce what good posture the prince had.
Draculaura covered her mouth. "What did we learn? Avoid the red titles?"
"It's a start. Let me try something." Clawdeen said, she bent down and pecked a soft kiss on Draculaura's lips.
Draculaura watched her run over the titles. Glass darts did shoot at Clawdeen's legs when she touched the red titles. The darts couldn't match her Lupian speed; she went to the other side without a scratch.
Clawdeen stood beyond the hallway. She swiftly moved her legs in a show of self-congratulations.
 The Night-Walker clapped and hopped, "Fangtastically done, Puppy!"
"We proceed." Ghoulia said, deep inside she was happy her friend was safe. The layers of misery buried the relief in her voice.
The youths walked but didn't know for how long. The darkness and fear of the unknown melded time. They kept going anyway.
Draculaura changed form to a smaller, flying creature so she could sit on Clawdeen's shoulder. The wolf-woman rubbed her nose against Draculaura's snout. Deuce and Ghoulia sighed deeply as they watched the affection exchanged. The group came to a statue of a lioness-hawk creature. She looked like she was frozen in time, trying to walk through the wall on her mighty four legs.
"Do we add a coin to her slot?" Deuce asked, he was bitter that he'd ended up on a quest. He had left Greece precisely to avoid silly quests between rivaling families and foolish friends.
Ghoulia and Prince Seth kneeled before the
"We request passage, great Sphinx." Prince Seth asked, looking at her talons.
"You just got here and already want to leave? Rude." The Sphinx scoffed, she crossed her front legs and ruffled her wings.
"Forgive us, but for the good of the world we need to get what's waiting behind you." Ghoulia said, she imagined she was talking to Medusa. An intimidating and smart monster who listened to reason, and listened to the undead ghoul.
"Yeah, yeah, same as everyone else. I haven't had company in three thousand years, but this is the career I chose." She said, looking over the youths' heads.
"Why don't you change jobs?" Clawdeen asked.
"Why don't you change your face! It's not that easy, I've put too much in this spot already to start over." The Sphinx said with a snap of her jaw.
Clawdeen could've showed her own big, bad teeth and a growl but underground was not the place. Draculaura knew that was what she was thinking, so she held her love's arms.
The Sphinx examined her talons, picking out bits of sand, "So here's the game; I give you three riddles. You guess two out of the three correct and you can pass."
"Agreed." The group all said together.
"Here we go: Give me water, and I'll die. Feed me and I'll grow. What am I?"
"I say mermaid. They don't drink anything." Deuce whispered to Ghoulia.
The undead ghoul nodded, "Thank you for not saying that louder. The answer is fire."
The Sphinx widened her eyes a tiny fraction, "Correct. Alright, here we go, I'm light as a feather-"
"Breath." Ghoulia interrupted.
The Sphinx's angular eyes squeezed in aggravation. "Okay, here's one for you, Smarty-Smart. A high-priest, a crocodile hunter and abacus maker walk into a bar-"
"Spare me Sphinx." Ghoulia loud yet calmly said, "I could let the rest of the world burn, wake up my dearest friend, for me. Only me. I don't know where we'd go, what she'll say or if I could keep up. It doesn't matter, I have to be with her."
A paw to her chest, the Sphinx let out a shaky sigh. "Go get your girl." The wingspan of a sphinx could bridge the Nile. She flaps and takes flight into the darkness, finding a secret window out of the tunnel. They saw her fly but she made no sound.
The Night-Walker and the werewolf took each of Ghoulia's arms. The male folk walk behind them. The torches show the one tunnel split into two. The group exchanges ideas and decide to split up.
"I'll find you on the other side." Clawdeen promises, kissing her ghoulfriend as their fingers twisted around in almost-hurtful tension.
Draculaura is on her toes, reaching, arms around Clawdeen's neck, "I can hear your heartbeat from miles away. I will definitely find you, Puppy."
The Night-walker went the boys, the werewolf she loved went with Ghoulia. The entrances were identical, they all prayed their chances of survival were high.
"Deuce, why do you dislike me? We met today so we have no reason to like one another, but why are you brushing me off? " Prince Seth asked as they followed Clawdeen. She rolled her eyes and mumbled, "In the name of the moon...."
"It's nothing personal, dude. It's just the fact that your fancy, rich, perfect ass is betrothed to the girl I love, but can't be seen in public with, kind of gets my satyr." The snakes on his head nodded and hissed.
"Oh." Prince Seth stopped in place, then fast-walked back to the gorgon. "Please know that I've never cared that way for Cleo. My heart belongs to song, and a dear friend."
"Is that supposed to make this all better?" Deuce scoffed.
"I'm not a rival, just a man in a forced position. Why be jealous of me when Ghoulia has always been at her side and is quickly becoming the hero of this story?"
Deuce said,"Ghoulia is like a sister-wife to me. I want her around."
"Wow, Cleo's family is more complex than I realized." Prince Seth wondered outload, "It's a privilege to see. I would've been honored to join, never take apa-"
"Boys. Enough. Great therapy and all, but we're running out of road." Clawdeen barked.
They lifted their torches, almost the end of the wood and wax, and saw a harp against a golden wall.
"Wow, it's the string-thingy Cleo knew how to play." Deuce said, his heart hurt as she remembered how elegant she looked as she played fire.
Prince Seth turned to Deuce, "Cleo played the harp?"
"I hate you." Deuce said flatly, "So much."
"Okay, besides Cleo, does anyone else know to how play?" Clawdeen asked. She approached the instrument, curving like tree-branches, with a waterfall of unicorn tendons.
"I play the lyre and can read music. It's worth a try." Prince Seth said as he read the music notes on the wall. "Clever, and brain-frying; these notes don't follow any melodies I've heard. They'd sound like da-da-eeeeekkk-oooo-deeeee."
Clawdeen's pointed ears twisted, "It's a test, or a riddle, just like the others had been. I have better eye-sight than the two of you put together, and I don't see an obvious trap. That doesn't mean there isn't one."
"Ptolemy, for the scared creatures and people up top in the city, your friend, my friends and Forever-Babe, take the strings." Deuce said, giving an encouraging slap on the royal ass.
"You're hoping I die, right?" Prince Seth asked as he rubbed his backside.
"I'm hoping for a lot of things. Please play." Deuce said again, hands gesturing to the harp.
The heir of the Ptolemy Dynasty squatted in position. He realized so much was riding on his playing abilities, he removed the mask he mother forced him to wear.
Deuce's snakes hissed angrily and he leaned over to Clawdeen and whispered, "Gods dammit, I'd hit that. Stupid Ptolemy."
"Boy, shut up."
The sweet strands of melody began, like walking through the afterlife's Field of Reeds. Prince Seth remembered hearing the melody before and played what he knew, not what the wall said. The wall disagreed and opened a slot for black ooze. The prince kept her fingers going, not understand what he'd done wrong. In worry of risking his new friends, he skipped a string and made a sour note. The gushing ooze slowed down.
Seth Ptolemy realized he had to massacre music, his passion as hot as Ra's sun, for the sake of everything else under Ra's sun.
"Hathor, forgive me." Prince Seth said, he gave up trying and bashed at the harp. The slimy ooze began flooding out, and a door suddenly closed from the way they walked in.
"Ptolemy, what's wrong?"
"I have to follow the instructions exactly, even though they are vile." Prince Seth pulled back his arms and cracked his knuckles. He read quicker than he played and, though it disgusted him as an artist, he played the gold notes. Deuce and Clawdeen had to cover their ears. They were still grateful as they watched the ooze cease. As Prince Seth made it to the end, they heard a creaking noise. The prince didn't stop playing, he and his friends watched the doors open.
Open to a room made of light.
Prince Seth stepped away from the harp. The three walked into the room and discovered piles and piles of treasure. Gold furniture, enormous, boulder size gems, rare magic weapons they'd all heard of in legends.
"I'm in the sky with the moon and all the stars, and it's glorious." Clawdeen said, her tongue dropped as she panted.
Prince Seth didn't tell them this was one of the small chambers and the DeNiles had hundreds, if not thousands, more tunnels of wealth and riches.
"The princess won't be in here. All this is another test to see if we'll make it to the Family Chamber. We cannot touch anything." The Ptolemy Prince said, very unimpressed by the unloving sparkling rocks.
"Which way?" Deuce asked, he grabbed his other hand before he could grab the cape with the golden Ram's skull.
Prince Seth walked straight past all the baubles and trinkets. Keeping their greed in check, Clawdeen and Deuce held each other's hands, as they followed the prince. Clawdeen whined and her ears dropped.
They stepped down a stairway to the Family Chamber. The ceilings tall enough to create its own weather. On 'medium' sized pyramid-pedestals there were shrines around sarcophagi. Jars, books, weapons, images in stone, all sorts of tokens at each shrine. Clawdeen locked eyes on the sarcophagus that draped fabric she had embroidered.
"Cleo." She said, and ran to the steps. The boys followed her. On the top of Cleo's personal pyramid there were roses made of rubies, expensive fabrics shinning against her magic-never-go-out-candles. Clawdeen couldn't believe in the toasty, dry underground that near Cleo's sarcophagus it smelled like spring water and night-bloomed roses.
"Deuce, look, she included us." Clawdeen bent down and ran her claws lightly over the icons of monsters dancing aside her coffin. They could have been humans but Clawdeen recognized details of herself; her jewelry unlike any human, her strong form, the hair braids she taught Cleo.
"She's in here?" Deuce asked, almost a gag. He saw a face painted on the sarcophagus that resembled Princess Cleo, except the flat, cold eyes. "Ptolemy, how do we crack this open?"
Have a good read !
While Seto continue to be a good CEO for Kaibacorp, Jounouchi start his dream to be a pro duelist, that how they start to hang together more frequently, they have the same place to work, the same subject in head, the same event to go.
Their story start out of nowhere, it’s not like they were know to be in good term, always going to find bugs in other hair but time pass like a rocket after their graduation and help to ease the tensions.
Events that speak about duel monster but also money, where you get bored easily wearing your best clothes, start to drink a glass to much and to speak with your old classmate and rival just to realise how much you have in common, how much you love his humor finally and maybe the end of the day what not so bad and it will be the start of something new for both of you.
Jounouchi didn’t believe it will be almost 3 years since he is in couple with Seto and it’s been a hell of a roller coaster, at first because they have to ajust to each others, then because they have obligations and travel a lot, reducing their time together.
He discover multiple faces of his boyfriend during those years but one in particular always worry him when he was so far away, that part of Kaiba that was so obsess about things and paralysis him into the past, it was hard to pass by something, to not think about it.
Kaiba was so obsess about winning to the pharaoh in the past, he didn’t feel like Atem acknowledge him like he wanted, it’s almost make him crazy just to think about it, it make him construct a whole system to go in the after life, he didn’t even remember how he come back in the real world but that was the end, that was when he finally decide to turn the page about him, he understand now that his love was to much for himself and the both of them maybe, since Atem didn’t even look at him this way but something, something when he was alone at night in their house, the one he choose with Jounouchi, he think about it, he think about all the time he had and lost in this story and it make him depressed and lost in his own head.
But Jounouchi always come back with the sun, he know how to keep him outside of his own head, that what he loved the most about him, always bright and ready to bring positivity into his live, after all this time he know he can be loved at the end of the day.
***
He just come back from an other travel, get in America to play in championship for two weeks and have Isono to pick him up at the airport, the flight always wash him off but what he wanted to most was to see Kaiba’s face before to take a good shower and sleeping in his arms.
He turn the light on and can see Kaiba’s back on the couch, it was a bad sign to see, surely the loneliness start to eat him up again.
“hey, what happen ?” he say while closing the front door, manifesting his presence, standing in the entry, he can see Kaiba in the livingroom looking at him over his shoulder, even with the low light he can see shiny spots on his cheeks where the tears was not so long ago.
“Kat i just” closing his eyes one second to no break down again “you know, thinking about him” admitted it in a tiny voice before putting down his head
A softly “oh” emanate of him and he took off this shoes, let hi bag lie on the floor, before crossing the entry way to sit next to Kaiba, putting this arm around his shoulders and he lift his head with a soft hand “that ok Seto, we all miss him”
“yeah but” he don’t look Jounouchi in the eyes, too raw, too ashamed to always go back at the same place in his brain “i loved him so much and i hate the fact he still haunt me when i have you” he put his hand over his face in despair, just wanted to stop, stop all of it, stop to think, then strong arms encercle him and he feel the warm of Jounouchi body, listening to his heart make him feel instantly better
“shh ok, you have just a rough time here, time to think about other stuffs” Jounouchi start to play in his hair and they just stay like this for a moment, it could be a minute, a hour, more important is to be together again, far way from his spiraling mind, Jounouchi stop to take his hand and start to kiss his no-so-wet-anymore cheek “and you know, it's not because you loved him back, that you don't love me as much today” he give him is big sunny smile, the one that can melt any ice and Kaiba manage to give him a little smile back, feeling a lot better.
“Let’s stop that “ Kaiba say after some silence
“stop what ?”
“To travel i mean”
“oh yeah” say Jounouchi in a little sigh, “that a good idea, i m tired anyway and want to be home with you” finally he get his welcome home kiss.
🔮
See into my muses past! Send 🔮 and I will write a drabble of a memory that your muse gets to see into.
Tumblr media
Everyone had gone and left. The apartment was silent, now. Yuugi and his friends had claimed victory against him in his own domain. The blood soaked spire on the castle had almost dried. The blood on his own hand had dried, but yet he couldn't stop staring. It... it felt bad. It felt so bad. This... thing radiated at the center of his palm and shot up his arm. Blue eyes were fixated on this nearly perfect hole, eyes beginning to brim with tears. After a long period of silence, a soft voice broke the silence.
"...I thought you said this would work." His voice was shaking. Why was it doing that? "What am I feeling? I don't like it, make it stop." The way his host's body was reacting was enough to inform him that it was bad, but he didn't understand how. It wasn't like they were much help. Speaking of...
"That is the sensation called 'pain.'" Ah, finally, an answer from Zorc. How rare that always was.
"'Pain?' Like his chest when we dug inside?"
"Yes." There was a period of silence. "A much deserved one, considering you let that get in our way. You let one little sacrifice get in the way of victory. Unsurprising, considering the filth you are stuck with."
"Hey!" A third voice finally chimed in. "I thought it was practically foolproof! No use in a hand that we can't control! He was gonna ruin everything! You know, like you did!"
"Me?! I'm doing what you said! You said--"
"Don't you dare talk back to me, worm!"
Bakura lowered his head, silent. He was right. It was his fault. He wasn't good enough for the job; never was. He needed to get rid of the pharaoh and take his item, and couldn't even do that. It was an easy job, and he failed. Finally, after thinking it over, he spoke back up.
"I'll get him next time. They'll be ave--"
"They should've gotten their justice the FIRST time!" Of course the Thief King would explode at the slightest provocation. He should've known better than to open his mouth. "You are GODS-DAMNED lucky you get the privilege of hosting me! You're a fucking disgrace to my legacy and to my people! What the fuck are you, hm?! Worthless. You shouldn't even be here. You're a waste of a soul."
"Do not give it hope that it even has one, King of Thieves." Zorc chided. "Remember what it is. Be grateful it came with basic comprehension skills. It still has a use to us. And when the plan is complete, we can dispose of it and move on with our lives."
"I hope to the gods you're right about this. Having to acknowledge it disgusts me."
Bakura heard every word of the exchange. But to acknowledge it only meant more vitriol. It might get him directly attacked instead. It was always best to keep a head down and pretend not to listen. But it stung. It hurt. Why didn't they want him? What was it about him? He bent over backwards to try and earn their approval, but they just didn't care. Maybe, one day, it'll be him in charge. He'll have control. Him and nobody else. He'll get to experience life just as they had. Just as his host did. One day. One day he'll be in control.
And nobody will take that from him.
The beaming sun on his brow urged his hand to hover, shielding the radiant rays from honey colored gaze. He’d been carrying dates — an errand for the royal palace. He hoped to encounter the kind fellow he befriended during those days ( unbeknownst to him that fellow was the pharaoh ), instead he sees the face of someone who invoked fear into any who crossed him. Immediately, Jono bows his head, sliding the basket of fruit from his back. “ P-Priest Seto, I just finished that errand. “ he voiced, hoping to have found the other in a good mood.
Tumblr media
The Priest was definitely someone to fear. His temper was well renowned, and some even speculated that he was behind a lot of the Pharaoh's more harsh decisions.
Harsh eyes stared down at the other, looking for anything that he could fault him for. He was in a particularly nasty mood after an argument, and he wanted nothing more than to tear into someone.
Finding none, it only seemed to irritate him further. "Then hurry up and get to your next task. If you have nothing else, I'm sure I could figure something out for you."
Your more than just a slave to me part 1.
The pharaoh sighed as he sit on his throne. /I haven't seen Heba all day which is unusual./ the pharaoh thinks to himself. Standing up he walks to the doors of the throne room waking out down the halls of the palace. As he walks he hears whispering
"Heba you can't keep avoiding the pharaoh your his personal servant!" He soon realizes it's mana his best friend. "Shush! Mana I know but I can't even look at him without-!" "Uh hum!" The pharaoh coughs looking at both of them heba jumps looks at him face reddening. "M-my pharaoh what are you doing out the throne room so early?" Heba asks. Atem makes a scolding face. "I wanted to stretch my legs I been sitting for a while" he says before walking past them. /why doesn't Heba want to be around me? We've known each other since we where kids../ He looks down feeling his heart sink. "Did do something wrong?" He mutters to himself. Before walking towards the palace gardens.
<<time skip to the next day<<
"My pharaoh don't forget that you have meeting the day after tomorrow with a leader of the main land." Atem nods "I won't thank you" he says to his adviser. Atem looks up going wide eyed seeing priest Seto and Heba talking. The pharaoh couldn't hold back a growl as he sees his cousin./oh so he can't speak to me but he can speak to seto!/ The pharaoh stomps over. "Heba come now!" He says grabbing his wrist rather harshly dragging him to his bed chambers. Shutting the door shoving Heba inside. "I demand to know the meaning of your actings!" The pharaoh yells. Heba flinches and moves back. "What do you mean my pharaoh?" "You know what I mean Heba! You been avoiding me not talking to me or even playing games with me like we used to! But you have time to converse with my cousin?!" Heba looks down. "I-I been busy." "What could you have possibly been busy with that caused you to never see me?!" Heba clenched his fist. "WHY DO YOU CARE?! I'm a slave! I'm nothing to you!" Heba yells tears streaming down his face. Atem looks at him him shock but before he can stop himself he grabs heba's face and kisses him deeply.
It was a quiet walk home. It was a quiet and long walk home.
Between navigating his way home through the map on his phone and figuring out how roads and pathways worked in the Modern World, he had no time to process all that has happened. That, and he dare not show anything here in the wide open public. At least the traffic and sounds of the outside world could drown it out for the time being.
Once he was inside and the door shut... everything was quiet. The only sound hear loud and clear was the ticking of the clock on the wall. He didn't bother to remove his jacket or take off his shoes, instead immediately walking to his room... right next to his studio... where his eyes met the painting.
It was a spur of the moment capture, a way for him to express what he was feeling right then and there when asked about Roy. Roy... a friend that he made without any help. A friend he made because of Atem, not just because he was Yugi's friend first. A friend who wanted to get to know the present Atem, not Pharaoh Atem. Someone he wanted to get to know more and more and possibly become closer and closer.
Even though at the end... it will all have to go away. This wasn't Roy's home, this wasn't his world. Eventually... he will have to go back home. Away from him.
"...Atem... If I leave... then I won't get to see you anymore."
"I know." He whispered, answering back to a silent thought as he just stared at the painting.
"Do you... really want that?"
"It doesn't matter what I want. Being selfish serves no one and that's..." He could feel his voice begin to catch in his throat and his eyes well up. Had he been in the presence of Roy he'd swallow it down like he had done already earlier but now... with the luxury of privacy, he can let it out however his body wanted to.
Tumblr media
"...that's not fair to you. That's not fair to anyone. It's not right."
It tore him up when he heard Roy seemingly beg and plead for Atem to not leave him.
"I'm scared that I'm going to lose something no matter what I do... I'm going to lose you."
But what struck him the most was when Roy grabbed him by the arm. One thing that Atem valued highly, his "love language" one might say...
Touch.
"Please don't go..."
Tumblr media
"Why did you say that?" He brought his arm close to his chest, not even realizing (or caring) that tears were freely running down his face at this point. There was no one to see him, just as he wanted. "Why put me above the others? Why was I the only one who saw the bigger picture?" He had to take in a breath as his voice choked up again. "No matter how you say it, the ending is the same. How we feel is irrelevant. How I feel is..."
He trailed off, just looking at the painting through blurred vision. All that was going through his mind was the memories he had made with Roy already. Going to the lounge, spending time at the park late night, even the rush of feelings that led to creating that painting. That right there was proof of his feelings. They were right there.
"No... I can't be selfish." He felt himself tremble a little, knowing exactly what that endgame would mean. No more nights together, no more random talks at the park. No more Roy. Falling to his knees, he tried to fight the one feeling he didn't dare admit. "I can't keep you here, this isn't your home! As much as I want you to stay, as much as I don't want you to go..." His eyes widened as soon as he heard the words come out of his mouth.
He didn't want Roy to leave him. He wanted Roy to stay.
"No. No. No no no no no no no. Why did I..." He couldn't fight it anymore. He could barely keep it in front of Roy, why hold back now? He said it. It was an ugly thought, a selfish thought, an honest thought, but he said it. Wrapping his arms around himself he layed on the floor, tears flowing nonstop at this point and his voice just choked up.
Tumblr media
"No... it shouldn't matter what I want! Asking you to stay is selfish! This isn't your home! This isn't fair to them! Just because I want you to stay it... it shouldn't matter! My feelings... shouldn't matter. My feelings..."
He couldn't finish it. He knew exactly what he was feeling. He didn't want Roy to leave. He wanted Roy to stay here, with him. He knew how ugly, horrible, and selfish these feelings and emotions were, and he hated it.
But they were there.
As he just curled up and cried quietly to himself, Roy's words rang again in his mind.
"I'm scared that I'm going to lose something no matter what I do... I'm going to lose you."
"So am I, Roy." He whispered as much as his sobs would let him. "So am I."
Meeting and Dating Ahkmenrah
Tumblr media
(Not my gif)(Requested by anonymous)
(This movie was my childhood. Brings back so many good memories ...and crushes.)
- You’d worked at quite a few museums in your day but none of them were quite like the Museum of Natural History; a fact you’d be made aware of very suddenly and without warning.
- You were somewhat new to the building, hired to do work on the exhibits since you were skilled in restoration and design. You weren’t a night worker, at least you weren’t supposed to be, but you’d accidentally dropped something as you were leaving your office and were forced to stay late to clean it up.
- After a few moments of sweeping, you’d heard a commotion upstairs and as you went to leave the museum; and investigate, you’d walked straight into the beautiful chaos of a night at the museum.
- Let’s just say that Larry had a lot to explain, all of which you took surprisingly well; though you didn’t have much of a choice now did you?
- Ahkmenrah spotted you from across the museum and watched as you made your way around the new magical world, staring at every person and thing in awe. He spied on you throughout the night and found that when he’d finally thought it appropriate to approach you, the sun was already beginning to rise.
- So the next day, he asks Larry about you, pretending as though he’s asking for no reason at all. Larry knowingly offers to introduce the two of you and the mummy drops the act, eagerly accepting.
“I’d like that very much, yes.”
- Larry approaches you with the sparkling pharaoh and is soon called away by someone else, leaving the two of you alone to speak. Ahkmenrah motions over to a bench nearby, commenting that it “must be a lot to get used to” as you both take a seat. You laugh in agreement and before you know it, the two of you are engaged in a conversation.
- Ahkmenrah’s sweet, he’s charming, he’s handsome, and he’s quite enamored with you; though you don’t know that just yet.
- Soon enough, it’s time for the sun to rise and he takes notice, begrudgingly standing and admitting that he “must say goodbye”. You respond with a somewhat disappointed goodbye yourself, watching as he begins to walk away before he turns and says “I should like to see you tomorrow ...to continue our conversation” to which you happily agree.
- The two of you become close fairly quickly. Anytime he spots you in a room, he makes a beeline towards you; both because he really likes you and because he’s somewhat awkward himself.
- He always likes being there for you, considering you’re new and not used to all that history coming to life stuff. He takes pride in being your guide and sort of likes the feeling of you depending on him a bit.
- Your “friendship” takes an obvious romantic turn, particularly; and outwardly, on his side; I say “friendship” because it was probably somewhat obvious from that he liked you more than that even from the beginning.
- He compliments you, oftentimes earnestly and quietly calling you beautiful, uses any excuse to touch you and your clothes, etc. He awes you with talks of Egypt and sweeps you off your feet quite easily. It’s really only a matter of time before the two of you get together.
- That “time” comes one day as you’re both sitting all alone. The room is dark and warmly lit and you’re sitting so close that his knees are touching yours. His hands hold yours as he speaks quietly to you and your face is leaned in close so that you can hear him.
- And then it just happens, your faces close in and you kiss, his grasp tightening around your hands.
- You’re interrupted by one of the others, most likely Larry who quickly apologizes and mentions something about the sun coming up before leaving the two of you be. Ahkmenrah turns back to you, saying something along the lines of “so we must once again say goodbye” with a small smile.
“It would appear so.” You respond, though you’re hesitant to move from your place. But alas, the sun has to rise and you have to go home.
“Tomorrow then,” He smiles at you, giving your hand one last squeeze. “...My queen.”
- You leave that morning, eager for the daylight to go and for you to be reunited with your newfound lover once more.
- Ahkmenrahs from ancient Egypt so I’m sure he isn’t particularly accustomed to “normal” Pda. That being said, he is somewhat dorky and practically has an entire hall to himself so he either just gives you innocent pda or the two of you go to his exhibit; and not have to worry about anyone seeing you.
- He’s been locked up in a sarcophagus for about fifty years; or more, so he’s arguably a bit touch starved. He’s always trying to touch you in some way and absolutely loves it whenever you touch him.
- He likes holding both your hands in his, occasionally bringing one of them to his lips. He just likes touching your hands in general if we’re being honest.
- Gentle caresses. He’s in love, leave him alone.
- Forehead and cheek kisses. He likes prolonging the amount of time his lips spend on your skin; a normal prolonged amount of time of course.
- Long, soft kisses.
- Loving makeout sessions. His hands roam your back and pull you in as close as they can whenever you have one.
- He likes laying between your legs and/or resting his head in your lap.
- Cuddling with your arms wrapped around each other and your head resting against his shoulder. He likes laying and talking with you, playing with the fingers that lay on his chest.
- Having his robes draped over and around you.
- He likes having you with him at all times, both because he’s protective of you and because he can’t bear to be away from you for more than a few hours.
- You’ll usually hang back and cling to his arm whenever you’re standing together. He likes feeling your presence at his side and the light grip you have on him.
- A bit clingy. He only gets to see you at night and has been alone for quite some time, of course he’s gonna want to be around you as much as possible.
- He always gets somewhat flustered when you give him gifts; particularly sweet things like flowers. You would have sworn you’d given him your underwear with the way he smiles and blushes in response.
- Ahkmenrah was the favorite son so he was a bit spoiled as a child. That being said, he’s surprisingly humble and sweet for a pharaoh that was given the best of everything.
- He’s probably teared up a little because of you at some point, whether it be your actions or just the fact that you’re there with him. He can get a bit emotional at times.
- Dancing together. We all saw how beautifully that man can move.
- Sneaking him out every once in a while. He really likes your apartment; even if you’re sort of embarrassed because he’s a literal pharaoh and lived in a temple when he was alive.
- Movie dates. They’re the easiest thing to do with him and he’s missed out on pretty much all of them so he’s got a lot of catching up to do.
- Listening to music together.
- Considering his time at Cambridge and just the way he is, he may or may not wax poetic about or at you on occasion. He gets a little embarrassed when he realizes that he’s doing it but it’s the sweetest thing you’ve ever heard/seen.
- Compliments and lots of them; usually paired with a term of endearment.
- He uses a lot of pet names on you, usually somewhat old fashioned ones. My dear, my sun, my queen, etc.
- He’s the cutest when posing for photos. He tries to look all regal in the beginning but it quickly dissolves into the adorable dorkiness that you know so well.
- The boy is lovestruck. He could sit and watch you do nothing with this look of unwavering love on his face for hours. Need to do some work? Thats totally fine. He’ll just sit there and love you.
- Please let him braid your hair. There’s just something that’s so relaxing and sweet about it to him.
- He has a hard time saying no to you. You’re his queen after all, you should have everything you could ever dream of; and he’s just too sweet to deny nearly anyone.
- Polite and respectful, Ahkmenrah is a gentleman with incredibly good manners. You’ll never be disappointed in his behavior.
- Helping Larry and him take care of the museum and tablet.
- Teaching him about all he’s missed.
- Always having a translator. He certainly comes in handy when you’re traveling around the museum and run into some “hostile” exhibits.
- Getting quietly and excitedly told a bunch of stories. He’s always so adorably eager to tell you about his life; whether it be about Ancient Egypt or more present times.
- He wants to introduce you to his parents so badly; though he’s somewhat embarrassed by them. Maybe you’ll transfer to the London museum for a bit?
- Getting bragged about. He always makes you sound cooler than you really are, though in your case, that’s just how he sees you.
- Stopping him from making morbid comments; oftentimes at the wrong time, or just giving him a look. He’s got a sort of different view on what’s exactly an acceptable thing to say.
“Too dark?”
- Sharing looks and making comments to each other.
- He’s always so gentle and caring with you; especially when you’re hurt or upset. He prides himself on being by your side and taking care of you.
- He’s a fairly patient person; especially with you. I mean, he’s had to wait a lot more than a few years to be let out of his sarcophagus so one can assume that he’d be good at that sort of thing.
- He’s not a terribly jealous person. Arguably, if you choose to be in a difficult relationship with a mummy, then you obviously want that relationship, right? He’s loyal and he expects you to be as well; that’s how it was in his times.
- That being said: if someone shows interest in you then he’ll get a bit jealous; though he’ll save his real jealousy for when he gets to see how you respond to them and how they respond to him making it known that you’re together.
- The museum can certainly get a bit dangerous at times; and he can only be there for you when you’re there, so of course he’ll be protective of and worry about you. He looks out for you and tells you to be careful every time you’re saying goodbye.
- The two of you hardly ever fight or argue, you’re just compatible with each other; and you rarely have the time to do so anyway. Plus, your pharaoh doesn’t have a mean bone in his body and lives to please you, so why would he try to fight with you?
- If he’s somehow done something; which is highly unlikely, he’ll apologize the minute that he realizes he’s upset you or thinks that he has. He’ll give you space if you want or need it and welcomes you back with open arms when you’re ready.
- If you’ve upset him then he’ll do his best to give you the silent treatment and act professional with you; not quite cold but not loving like he usually is. He’ll do so until you apologize and he cracks, shyly accepting your apology and reverting back to his sweet self.
- Lots of I love yous. You’re his queen, what do you expect?
- Your relationship is certainly going to be a bit challenging, but the happiness and love you feel with each other is worth it.
Goodness I almost didn’t finish this in time, I got a horrible migraine yesterday and today the time got away from me because I spent the day with a friend... But here it is!! I wanted to draw more but the writing took longer than I thought and now it’s so late that I should’ve been in bed over an hour ago :_D
THEY FINALLY TALK... a little. But it’s a good beginning.
PuzzleJune 2021, Week Three: Dimension (Rules, Impossible)
It's a comfortable silence. Atem would be content to just stay there, feeling warm and loved, lodged between Yuugi's arms. Perhaps he could even doze off.
But he knows what he said, and he knows Yuugi is now waiting for them to talk. Their mental link through the Puzzle might be gone but maybe there's some kind of a residual connection left, because the feeling of expectation in the air is almost palpable.
"We're both going to get cricks in our backs if we don't move soon," Yuugi interrupts his thoughts. He sounds sleepy and some part of that guilt Atem felt before raises its ugly head.
"I– yeah," Atem mumbles and with obvious reluctance, lets go of Yuugi's waist and sits up. Something must show on his face because Yuugi peers at him curiously.
“I’m sorry for waking you, aibou,” he sighs and offers an apologetic smile. “I know you would’ve liked to sleep longer.”
Yuugi lets out a startled laugh and shakes his head.
“Uh-huh, but you’re way more important than that. You should know that, right?”
Atem is taken aback by the blatant sincerity of those words. It tends to happen a lot around Yuugi, and he’s not sure if he’s ever going to get used to it. On some level though... It feels nice. He chuckles and smiles at Yuugi, this time honestly.
“I guess I should.” He pauses. “Thank you, Yuugi.”
This time it’s his partner’s turn to look surprised. A slight blush climbs onto his cheeks which Atem notes, amused. Even now it’s not exactly a regular occurrence for him to call Yuugi by his name (it feels odd on his tongue – it’s hard to shake the memories of being called with that same name) and he resorts to ‘partner’ more often than not but he has been trying. He has his name now – no reason for him to withhold Yuugi’s own from him.
“I-it’s fine, other me,” Yuugi says and looks away, breaking their eye contact. He looks happy, though, so Atem doesn’t worry about it too much. What he does worry about is the conversation they’re about to have.
He stretches, probably more theatrically than necessary, then shuffles backwards on the bed to lean his back against the wall and snags Yuugi’s pillow to hold under his arms. He feels awkward and clumsy despite his mind having cleared up and he feels that he needs the extra comfort. Yuugi pulls his legs onto the bed and leans against the headrest.
They fall into another silence, yet this is a pondering one. Still not awkward, still not bad – Atem is pretty sure they’re not even able to have awkward silences. It’s a comforting thought and he hugs the pillow in his lap closer to his chest to cover his inappropriately goofy smile.
“We really don’t do this, huh,” Yuugi snickers after a while, breaking the stillness that had fallen over the room like a blanket.
Atem tilts his head on the side to look at him, leaning his cheek on the pillow.
“We really, really don’t,” he answers with an easy grin. Yuugi smiles back and there’s such fondness in his eyes that Atem could very well just drown in those purple depths. He sobers quickly though and his grin falters before vanishing, leaving his mouth in a tight line. He looks into Yuugi’s eyes with a new sharpness and the other boy mirrors his expression as if it’s his second nature (it probably is, considering). This is it.
“I’m so sorry for everything I put you through,” the pharaoh blurts out before he can overthink it. Yuugi looks almost shocked so he barrels on, “I know how greatly you suffered during those weeks leading up to the ceremonial duel. Those feelings were never a secret from me and I’m so, so sorry for not making it right… before it was already too late.”
There’s the familiar feeling of a lump in his throat and he fights to keep his eyes locked into Yuugi’s. He deserves honesty and Atem can’t allow himself to turn away. A shadow casts over Yuugi’s face and he's silent for a moment before speaking.
“I kind of knew. That you knew. I’m not too sure how it made me feel, though,” he says quietly. “Not very good at least, if I’m honest.”
Atem nods. He had presumed as much.
“I thought… I thought you just really wanted to leave. And I couldn’t blame you for it, I mean… you were dead, and the dead deserve their rest. And on top of it, that’s your family and friends you would’ve gotten to see in the Afterlife. Of course, it still hurt me,” Yuugi smiles sadly and lifts his knees to tuck his chin against them. “But I can’t blame you for that.”
“Why not?” Atem asks sharply and sits up straight. He squeezes the pillow against his stomach. “You have every right.”
All of a sudden Yuugi looks a little exasperated and he runs a hand through his hair, breaking their eye contact.
“Because… I don’t work that way?” he offers with a wince.
“Nah, you do,” Atem counters slyly. “You just don’t want to make me feel bad.”
Yuugi’s eyes snap back to his and the answer is written clear as day on his face.
“Well, that’s–! That’s!” he struggles to find the words before he just sighs and his shoulders slump. “Yeah. Okay. I want to blame you for it! But I can’t!”
Atem’s eyebrows rise toward his hairline as he stares at Yuugi in surprise. He opens his mouth to say something but Yuugi is faster.
“I love you too much to be able to.” His cheeks flush crimson and he slaps his hands over his face. “Don’t look at me,” he mutters, “I know that goes without saying but you just had to make me say it!”
Atem is completely speechless. Every direction he thought that this conversation could take them, this one was not what he had expected. Talk about dimensions, he thinks, perhaps a little dazed. Of course, it’s– it’s a given that they love each other–
“No,” Atem interrupts his own thoughts and throwing the pillow to the side, he crawls to Yuugi and kneels next to him. He takes a gentle hold of Yuugi’s right wrist but doesn’t pry the hand away from his face.
“It shouldn’t go without saying. Because we went with things without saying anything, you – and I – got hurt. And that should never happen again.” He takes a deep breath and feels himself smile.
“I love you, Yuugi, and that’s why I thought I had to leave. I thought you’d be happier. I couldn’t let myself be the reason you never got to live your life to the fullest, because if I stayed with you as we were, that’s what would have happened. I thought I knew the rules up until the last second.
“Turns out, I didn’t. I had another choice, a third one… I would have been a fool not to take it because that’s what I had always wanted in the deep recesses of my heart. You remember, right?” He tugs softly on Yuugi’s wrist to try to get him to look at him. “That night you asked me who I was. I told you I wanted to stay with you forever. Those feelings never changed.”
Yuugi lets his hands fall from his face but his eyes are closed tight. There are tears there, forming in the corners, and Atem wants to kiss them away. He doesn’t.
“I–,” Yuugi chokes on his words at first but keeps going, “I remember. I always remembered, but… I guess I stopped believing in it along the way. I didn’t want to hold you back, either. I never wanted to lose you but if it meant that you’d be happy, I’d do anything.”
He finally looks at Atem, eyes wet and shimmering, and laughs, voice thick with emotion.
“We’re such dummies.”
Atem holds out his hand and brushes a single tear off Yuugi’s cheek as it falls, his chest tight and heart fluttering somewhere in between his throat and ribcage. He almost doesn’t dare to talk in fear of his voice breaking... but what would that matter? They’re already laying out their hearts in front of each other, revealing the feelings that they had tried to keep private for reasons that don’t make much sense anymore – if they ever did.
“We are,” the pharaoh smiles and if his lip wobbles then be it. “Aibou… can you promise not to do anything like that anymore, to not… to not keep your feelings concealed for my sake?”
Yuugi takes his hand and squeezes. It makes warmth bloom in Atem’s chest.
“Only if you promise me the same.”
They just look at each other then, searching the other’s eyes. Would they be able to keep such a promise? After all those months of keeping things locked away, of always thinking about what they thought was the best for the other, of never talking things through? They both know it has to change, so… why not start now? They’re finally on the same page and moving forward, they need to keep it that way. Never rushing ahead or falling behind.
Simultaneously they both break into wide smiles and as Atem reaches for Yuugi’s other hand, they speak.
“I promise,” they say at the same time and it surprises neither. They laugh together, free and unburdened, and Atem leans forward to press his forehead against Yuugi’s. Yuugi meets him halfway and seeing the happiness in his eyes that close, Atem feels the prickle of tears in his own. They’re too close to look at each other for long but as they lean away they’re still smiling, still holding hands, tears now on both of their cheeks, and all is right in the world.
Despite everything, they still have each other, and their hearts are lighter. They’re aware that there’s a lot more where that came from but this is a better start than either of them could have hoped for.
They have each other, they have time, and nothing is impossible.
An ultimate sacrifice; Pharaoh Atem x reader
*Author’s note*
Now this could end really good or really bad. Back in my early teenage days, in my middle school years when I FIRST began my journey into writing fanfiction, the fandom I ALWAYS wrote for was from my childhood anime YUGIOH DUEL MONSTERS! Now I haven’t written any anime fics in practically 10 years so this might be rusty. Also idk if I’ll follow through with this story cause I can see this oneshot becoming a series idk we’ll have to see. But to those YUGIOH! fans out there on tumblr, I hope you enjoy this.
There was hardly any hope left.  All of Egypt was covered in complete darkness, no mortal weapon has worked, more than half of our armies have perished to the realm of shadows, even our beloved Egyptian Gods have fallen.  Zorc the Dark One has proven to be the most difficult adversary that our kingdom has ever faced.
Our Pharaoh was barely clinging onto life as the Egyptian Gods who were now shadows of their former selves were literally being broken down by Zorc’s wrath.
“Mana, you and the High Sorceress get the Pharaoh back to the palace.” Our priest Seto told us.
“But what about you?” asked Mana, my dearest friend and my love’s top student.
“The pharaoh is too weak to continue this fight. He needs to get somewhere safe. Leave Zorc to me.”
“Seto are you sure you know what you’re doing?” I asked him.
“We have tried everything in our power, even the Egyptian Gods themselves have been defeated. But there might be a creature with a light strong enough to banish this darkness once and for all, and I alone have the power to summon it.” He and I looked at each other and I nodded to him. I knew he needed to be the one to do this, from the grief I felt in him of losing the love he had found I knew he needed to redeem himself in my eyes.
“Make sure that demon doesn’t set one foot towards the palace gates.” I ordered as Mana and I worked together to get our King back to the palace to restore whatever strength he had left.
Mana and I reached the palace and we set the Pharaoh down on his bed.  He looked terribly weak and drained, almost as if he were in a deep sleep, his chest barely able to rise and fall normally.
“Mana, heal him of his strength.” She nodded and placed her hand over the pharaoh’s chest, her hand glowed brightly as she chanted out.
“As we approach our final hour, please restore the pharaoh’s power.” She kept repeating it over and over and over again. After the 7th time she said it, his violet eyes soon opened up.  “You’re awake!”
“Where is Zorc?” he asked us.  It was then we heard a powerful roar pierce through the sky, but it didn’t sound like Slifer the Sky Dragon’s roar, neither did it sound like Zorc’s.  Our pharaoh got up but I ordered him.
“Atem, you need to rest!” we all stood along the balcony and saw a beautiful white dragon facing down the Dark One single handedly.  Attacking with a powerful white lightning blast.
“No way! I’ve heard about this dragon from the villagers! They were saying a dragon with blue eyes powerful enough to destroy cities had come to our kingdom. But I thought it was only rumors.” Mana explained.
“Well it would seem you were mistaken Mana. But who knows how long this dragon will face up against Zorc. This is a demon that was able to destroy the Egyptian Gods with a wave of darkness.” I said. We watched the battle for a few minutes till I suggested to Mana, “Mana, go help Seto.”
“What? I can’t just leave you both here alone!” she exclaimed.
“Seto may be holding out on his own for now but he’ll need help. And you alone have the power to do just that.”
“But—”
“That’s an order! Not only as your Master but as your Queen! Now Go!” I ordered her.  She looked at me fearfully but her eyes narrowed as she nodded proudly.
“Yes Master Nefertiri. I’ll do my best to keep Zorc away from the palace.” I nodded and placed my hands on her shoulders.
“I know you will. And…….” I trailed off sadly. “And I know he would be proud of you too.” She nodded before we embraced each other and she took off running with her wand in hand.  I turned back to the battle to now see that Seto’s white dragon was starting to lose.
“Tiri.” I heard my pharaoh say to me as he took my hand.  I faced him and saw that his face had a grim, surrendered expression on his face. “It’s time.” He said gravely.
My eyes widened.  No. He—he wouldn’t dare suggest that. How dare he even think about that!
“No!” I growled lowly.
“Seto and Mana won’t be able to stop Zorc, but you can.” I turned away from him. “Look at me!” he spoke in hushed urgency. “You have the power to seal all of this away…..”
“Hold your tongue!” I hissed.
“You must do it, Tiri please!” I kept looking between him and the battle to see Zorc had defeated Seto’s white dragon and Mana’s Ka was barely hanging on.  I looked down at my pharaoh, my lip quivering as he placed my hand to his cheek and he told me, “There’s no other option left.”
Tears filled my eyes and my heart sunk.  I had already lost so many people to this war, I—I cannot bear to lose him too.
“I can’t.” I choked out.
“Yes you can.” He assured me. “You can. If Zorc succeeds in destroying Egypt, then the world will be next. It’s not fair. It shouldn’t have to be you but it is.” I shook my head as a couple of tears seeped down my cheeks.
I slowly backed away from him, but he kept his hands tightly gripped around my hand.  I knew he could feel me trembling which is why he ended up squeezing my hand even tighter trying to comfort me.
“It’s alright. You could never hurt me.” He slowly released my hand and gave me a soft, solemn smile. “You are my older sister.”
My dear sweet baby brother.  All these years of practicing magic together, helping rule Egypt just as our father would have wanted, staying together, never apart. That was the vow we both took together. And now you are willing to seal this evil away along with yourself in order to keep the world safe.
But he also knew that this spell would cause him to erase his memories so even if he is ever brought back into this world, he will not remember anything, not even his own name.
For his name is the key to seal all of this away.
My hand shakingly raised up and my sapphire magical aura came out of my hand before shooting straight at his Millennium Puzzle.  The blue light from my magic and the golden light from my brother’s Millennium puzzle combined into one, molding together in a battle between Light and Dark.
In order for this to work, I needed to overpower the item’s magic with my own, then merge that power within my brother’s very soul before finally sealing him away for all eternity.
I could hear the defeated cries of Seto’s dragon and Mana trying so hard to keep Zorc away for just a bit longer.  I raised my other hand to now combine my brother’s mind and spirit to the Puzzle itself and I was running out of time. All the while tears kept pouring down my face as I watched my brother’s body slowly disintegrate until it only his spirit remained.
Once it was just his spirit, I turned to see Zorc just within a few feet of the palace.  I raised my left hand and soon morphing into it was the very item I would use to seal Zorc away, the item that once belonged to my beloved Mahad.
The Millennium Ring.
The spikes pointed forward and it’s own magic combined with my own shot right at Zorc who roared in agony but still tried to walk towards my brother and I.  Atem kept reassuring me that it was all going to be alright, but no matter what he said, no matter how many times he assured me and gave me that soft smile of his, my heart continued to break.
Zorc was now standing over us, his clawed hand raised ready to kill us both but my brother’s spirit soon proclaimed out his name.
‘I love you sister.’ His spirit told me one last time.  He then turned to Zorc and proclaimed the key to ending all of this. ‘ATEM!!!’ and with that a great big light exploded from the palace and all went white.
I was surrounded by warmth and light, a light that I felt like I hadn’t felt in an eternity.  When I finally opened my eyes, I had seen that the Sun had finally been freed from the darkness.  I slowly sat up and saw that half the palace was destroyed and the kingdom was in ruin, but I could hear my people cheering.
It was finally over.  Zorc had been sealed away and the darkness he had released upon the world was finally gone.  But through all the cheers and joyous exclamations, my heart was still broken. Especially when I saw a piece of my brother’s Millennium Puzzle just an arm’s length away from me.
I reached forward and grabbed it to see it was the center piece with the eye of Horus staring right at me.  From the sun’s light, it gave me a wink but that still didn’t give me any hope.  I clenched the piece in my palm before pressing it over my heart and softly wept.
Using my magic I forged a special box to keep all the pieces of my brother’s Millennium puzzle and I used my magic to help me find all of the pieces the puzzle had.
It took about an hour to find all of them even with magic but after finally getting the last piece, I closed the box and sealed it tight with a spell.  Only those with a pure heart can touch this box, and if that wielder should be worthy of solving this puzzle, they are allowed one wish and shall also receive knowledge and powers of the Millennium Puzzle.
I walked along the ruins of the palace and was even more heartbroken to see my student and best friend Mana’s soulless body lying there on the ground.  I walked over to her and rolled her onto her back, her once lively hazel eyes were now completely soulless.
“My dearest friend. You fought valiantly, more so than any magician I’ve helped train.” I closed her eyes and placed her hands over her stomach with her wand in her hands, I rested my forehead against hers. “May Ra bless you in the next life, and may you reunite with our friends and your Master.” I kissed her forehead and placed my blue cloak over her body, covering her up.
I walked along the city to see the villagers trying to clean up the mess along with the guards that did survive.  I stood beside Seto whose soul had managed to be saved after Zorc’s defeat by using his white dragon monster.  We stood side by side and I told him.
“It’s not going to be easy but this kingdom will rise again. And you will see to it that it does Seto.”
“Huh?”
“There are a few tasks that I must complete.”
“What? But my Queen you…….”
“I relinquished the throne to my brother when he came of age. I am only the High Sorceress to the throne, and nothing else.”
“But after everything we’ve been through. This kingdom will need a leader who will lead them to the light.”
“And who better to do that than you Seto?” he looked down, his blue eyes full of doubt. “Please cousin, it has to be you. If my brother believed in you, then so do I. Trust the light in your soul.”
“The light in my soul?” I knew then he had to be thinking of his beloved Kisara.  “Alright cousin. I shall fulfill this task for you.”
“Thank you. Now I must ask you to hand over your Millennium Rod. This whole war was caused because of those items, and I shall see to it that they are buried somewhere where no man will ever find them. They must never be used again to bring forth the darkness again.” He handed over the Millennium Rod and I continued.  “I will also ask that you erase any trace of my brother’s name from every history book and stone we’ve got. For whilst his name was used to seal away the darkness, it can also be used to bring it back. Promise me you will honor my brother’s wish and erase his name from History. But never forget what he did for his kingdom and the entire world.”
“I will.” I kneeled before him before taking my leave, but not before asking Seto to give Mana a Guardian’s burial, for she fought just as hard as the rest of the Guardians that have given their lives to protect this kingdom.
I rode through the desert towards the abandoned city of Kul Elna, the once restless spirits were now quiet, almost as if they had left this world.  I went to the underground where the Millennium Stone tablet stood and offered up half of the items to the stone.  I surrendered the Millennium Eye, Scale, Key and the Ring.
I glared down at the Ring and snarled softly.
“If you dare resurrect yourself again, I will end you.” I then left the city and went on my next task.
My family had always spoken of a family that had always been entrusted with guarding the Pharaoh’s tomb so I paid them a visit to ask them to not only look after my brother’s tomb, but also to keep two more Millennium items safe and sound.  I gave Namu Ishtar the Millennium Rod and Necklace and he gave his vow that not only he but his descendents will protect the Pharaoh’s tomb from all threats and invaders.
Finally I delivered my brother’s Millennium Puzzle to the Valley of the Kings.  The place where every pharaoh in history had been buried.  For my brother’s tomb I ensured that every trap and riddle was as difficult to solve as possible (my brother and I always did love our games). But it was also to ensure that my brother’s spirit would never be disturbed or taken away from this place, less they be worthy of him.
Once I reached the end of the tomb, I walked across the pathway and set the box down on a stand.  I gingerly stroked the box as a tear slowly slid down my face.
“Little brother…….one day. One day soon. We will meet again.” I lifted my hand and kissed my fingertips before placing them back on the box.  I then lifted my hood back over my head and left my brother’s tomb.  When I was once again outside, I noticed that it was finally nightfall, Khonsu’s light graced the land of Egypt.
The last trip is probably what broke my heart even more.  For out in the far reaches of the desert was a small hut.  But what was special about this hut was that all of my favorite flowers had grown all around the property.  For being out in the middle of the desert, you would think a sudden oasis would be an illusion, well it’s not. Not really.
For this special place was the home that Mahad and I had made together.  Our love was technically forbidden but for our love, we’d be willing to accept all the risks.  My brother and Mana were the only ones really aware of our relationship together, so if there ever came a day when Mahad was forced to resign as Guardian, he and I would come here to be together.
I summoned a scroll of paper into my hand and slowly unfolded it and saw the design of what we had planned out.  A hut, a beautiful garden surrounding the place, a crystal clear pond along with a well, and a large training ground for us to continue our magic lessons together, and—one day maybe even train our children on.
But now those dreams are shattered.  Mahad had willingly sacrificed himself to become both my brother’s as well as my eternal servant as a creature known as the Dark Magician.
The inscription below in Mahad’s signature read as followed.
FOR MY BELOVED QUEEN, OUR MAGICAL OASIS.
-Mahad
Tears once again pooled into my eyes as I walked towards the hut and walked inside of it.  My body trembled as I finally collapsed to my knees, the paper scroll falling from my hands as I whimpered and wept softly.
First my father, then my friends, my brother, and then Mahad.  Everyone I’ve ever loved has been taken away from me! Why must I be the one to suffer through such pain and suffering?!
I finally couldn’t take it anymore.  I felt my power surging through me like a raging fire until finally I couldn’t hold it in any longer.  I exploded! My sapphire aura shot out in all directions as I let out an agonizing, heart-breaking scream.  Our hut and the property around it being destroyed and forged into something new.
A tomb.  My tomb.
Stone and brick built all around me, the once green oasis that Mahad and I had grown together with our magic decimated and reverted back to the hot, hard sand.  Once the tomb was built I sent my energy out towards all of Egypt now, to erase everyone from my mind.
I didn’t just want to be forgotten, I wanted to be erased.  For how can one live with their lives knowing that their legacy was sealing their own flesh and blood away in order to save the world? I for sure could never live with myself hearing the tale over and over again.  I re-wrote it so that it was my brother and my brother alone had found the spell and casted it to save Mankind from the Shadow Games.
Once that was done, I turned the magic onto myself for one final spell.  Well I should say curse.  To pay for what I’ve done to my family and in a way to spare myself the heartache of losing my Beloved Magician.  I collapsed to the ground, my eyes closed in sleep.
An ageless sleep.  For I was to be put under this curse until the day my brother would be released from his prison.  Our souls bound as one, sealed and trapped away from the world.  And for 5000 years we were, until we would soon be reunited again.
The Forgotten One
First       Previous
Chapter 4
Everything hurt. Her body felt as if it was on fire, her limbs were heavy and her head was pounding, she tried to open her eyes and understand her surroundings, but they refused to cooperate so she sought to use her other senses to identify where she was, even in a lot of pain she couldn’t forget her training, so she remained calm until she knew what she’s dealing with. It only takes her a couple of seconds to remember what happened. The attack on the League, the Temple crumbling to the ground and her being trapped under it. After that it was a void, so she must have passed out at some point.
She could tell she wasn't still trapped under the rubber because she could feel the softness of a mattress under her and not the hard temple training grounds, it was either nighttime or she was in a room without windows. She couldn’t hear a thing that indicated that there was another person with her, but she can identify cars in a far distance, so she must be close to a city. She feels cared for, so rules out being captured for now.
She isn’t sure how long she laid there, but streams of lighting start to appear somewhere above her from what she can see with her closed lids. The sun is up when she finally can open her eyes.
She is in a bare room, that must be used as storage from all of the boxes around. She’s in an attic in an elevated part that contains just the bed, an iron stair makes way into the second part of the room, she can see from her position that the only way out is through the trap door on the floor, although she can assume that the lighting coming from above her must lead to a balcony. She feels better now, her pain is gone and her limbs ultimately start to obey her again. She had just sat up when the trap door started to open.
She prepares herself for what is to come, she does not have any weapons and she’s not sure she can beat another assassin in a fight in her current state, even with the pain now gone. To her surprise is her godmother that enters the room she’s resting in. She carries a plate with food and a glass of water. She has a warm smile that Marianne has only seen a couple of times, normally reserved for birthdays and celebrations, but still reassures her that she’s safe and cared for.
“It's good to see you’re finally awake. Gave us quite a scare”
“Where am I?”
“Safe” With her tone she can tell that the conversation is over, so she simply accepts the plate that is offered and starts to eat what's been given, a tasty sandwich with a red tart at the side. If it was any other person that came into the room she wouldn’t have been so quick to accept the food, but she knew that her godmother would never hurt her, she was one of the only people she trusted with her life, like a second mother to her.
“How do you feel?” Sabine asks only after the food is gone.
“Surprisingly fine. The pain is gone and I feel normal again. How is this possible? Where are we? How long was I out? What happened with the League? What happened to Damian? Is he here? Is he safe?” The questions jump out of her mouth before she can control them. Rambling has always been a trait of hers, one that she thought to be long under control. But given the situation, she can’t blame herself to look after answers.
But Sabine calmly answers every one of her questions. She doesn’t get into details about the attack but she understands that one of her grandfather’s star pupils betrayed them and orchestrated the attack to take the Demon Head power to himself and rule over the Order of Assassins. Sabine and Master Fu were together at the Temple when it all started and went to look for her, only to realize that she must have thought the same and went to look for them. They saw her being crushed by the falling debris, and they were the ones that dug her out.
She died.
That piece of information stays in a loop in her mind. She died. Master Fu brought her back. Being brought back to life wasn’t impossible, she knew that her grandfather had been doing that for centuries, but he needed the Lazarus Pits for that, and she knew the symptoms of someone that used them, she had seen them first hand from her grandfather or when she was in charge of training a recruit that her mother had taken pity on. She was only ten, and the boy 13 at the time. One of her most proud accomplishments. Her grandfather was so proud of her for training the next generation, even if the boy was technically older than her. She knew the symptoms and she definitely wasn’t brought back using these methods.
“Master Fu will arrive here shortly, he can explain it better”
“Where is here? Where are we? Where's Damian?” She’s desperate, she needs to know where her baby brother is. That he is safe. “Please tell me he’s here!”
Sabine has a heartbroken expression on her face, and that's all the confirmation she needs. The tears roll down her face before she can stop them. All her efforts had been in vain, Damian wasn’t here.
“We are in Paris. He’s not here, but he’s safe” Her godmother tries to reassure her, she dries the tears in her face and strokes her hair trying to comfort the distraught girl. “He’s in a safe place as well, your mother made sure of that. But for now, you can’t go after him, Master Fu will explain why, you just have to trust me when I say I only want what’s best for you”
She then proceeds to tell her best-kept secret so far. She’s married, and they are at her husband’s house, above his bakery. She tells her of how in one of her missions she met the love of her life. But because of her, she knew she couldn’t leave the League just yet, she needed to be there for little Marianne and her bright smiles, to make sure the League didn’t kill the kindness in her. She always visited Paris after a mission. It became some kind of ritual, and no one ever questioned it. Her husband, Tom, knew about her lifestyle and knew that she couldn’t just leave her goddaughter behind, he respected that, even loved how caring his wife was. Sabine begs Marianne to not be guilty that she couldn’t have a better kind of life because of her.
“The best thing in my life is knowing that I helped raise the most selfless and kind woman, I’m so proud of what you become. Never forget that.”
By the time Master Fu finally arrives she’s just so tired. But her need for answers is bigger, so she allows her godmother to guide her to the living room. When they get there she’s surprised, to say the least. Her master is there, but he is not alone. He’s accompanied by two very anxious Kwamis.
“Marianne is so great to finally meet you! I’ve been waiting for this moment for so long!” Tikki, The Goddess of Creation addresses her. But she stays there stunned. She grew up learning about these entities, preparing for the moment she would get to meet them, but there she stays, unable to properly function. So much has been happening in the last 24 hours, and she feels like she’s in shock.
“Great job sugar cub, you broke the kid” Plagg, The God of Destruction comments.
“She’s probably just surprised to finally see us, don’t be rude”
It feels surreal to see these mystical creatures just bickering like children in her godmother’s husband’s living room. She almost feels like she’s dreaming. Feeling her discomfort, Master Fu decides it is better to address the situation.
“Come sit Marianne. It’s time I give you some answers.”
For the next hour, she learns a part of history she never knew about.
Her Master calmly explained to her that by the time they were able to release her from the ruins of the temple, it was too late. But something in him knew there was still hope. Because she was Tikkis chosen, her soul takes more time to disconnect itself from the physical world, so The Grand Guardian did something that wasn’t wrong but still considered taboo. He asked Tikki to use her energy in order to anchor her spirit back into her body. He didn’t use the wish from the Miraculous, so it wasn’t as dangerous. That had only been done once, somewhere when the pharaohs were still in power. One of the Guardians had fallen madly in love with a woman chosen by Tikki, but she got sick and died. Consumed with grief he ordered the Kwami into bringing her soul back.
Because it had happened so long ago they didn’t know the reaction it would cause in her already existing powers. So, for now, it would be better if she stayed in Paris, close to her Master’s, where she could finish her training and receive guidance if needed. They still didn’t know the situation within the League, so it was best to lay low for a while.
So there she stayed. For a whole month, she lived with her godmother and got to know the man she called her husband. It was funny, that the super badass and strict woman everyone knew would turn into the warmest person when around the baker. Marianne could tell they loved each other very much just by the way they looked at the other. In the League love was not something that happened very often. So it felt nice to be in contact with something so pure.
She also kept going on with training, just like Master Fu said they would. It was as if her life was completely new but completely equal to what it was before. She would wake up early, eat something, normally delicious made by Tom, and go to where her master was living, a massage parlor that served as a disguise from his real job as her teacher. They would start by meditating and then move into physical training. It was different, Fu wasn’t so young anymore so now she tended to train alone. She missed her brother so much that it hurt. Knowing where he was but not if he was okay. She wished that there was a way for her to contact him, but knew it would be safer if she didn’t. Just knowing he was with Father makes her feel a little better, she remembers her Mother’s stories of the fearless Batman, so if the time comes she knew he would be safe.
Nothing out of ordinary happened so far, her powers kept the same, maybe a little more intense, but nothing she couldn’t handle. But they were confident that there would not be any other side effects so far. Everything was back to normal, or that’s what they thought.
Imagine their surprise when on one of their meditation sections the both were suddenly overwhelmed by the intense energy that they received. It was dark, nothing like she ever had felt.
“Master, what was that? I have never felt something like it” Her teacher looked like he had seen a ghost, pale and with an anxious expression
“I’ve only felt this type of energy once. We must prepare, something bad is on our horizon. It’s time to activate your miraculous”
“What? Are you sure Master? Please tell me what is going on!” She pleaded.
“The Peacock and the Butterfly Miraculous, a long time ago, when I was just an apprentice, were thought to be lost. This was when The League and the Order were constantly at war. Some of my fellow disciples got greedy. They wanted the power the Miraculous had to offer, they thought themselves worthy of wielding their power and destroying the League of Assassins. There was a fight, and the first Temple of The Order was compromised. Some of us escaped, but we lost a lot. That day… I felt the same type of energy. I believe somewhere in this city, someone is preparing to cause chaos. We must be ready for when it happens.”
“How do we do that?”
“We need to find the Cat Miraculous wielder”
Little oneshot about Atem meeting Sphinx Yugi
Part of my Sphinx AU. Please enjoy.
Atem clutched his cloak around him, trying to settle back against the date palms again, only to sit up with a start at the rustle of leaves. The once vibrant and friendly oasis he’d happened upon in the day, had turned into an absolute nightmare as soon as the sun set.
He hadn’t managed to get a fire going, he couldn’t find anything to eat, and although the water in the massive pond looked clean and tasted good, he was convinced he’d be sick by morning.
The night was so dark, even with all the stars, he could barely make out his surroundings in the dense thickets of trees and brush surrounding the pond. He could swear something was out there. Could feel it staring at him, hunting him.
He snapped his head to the left at the sound of disturbed undergrowth, and swore he caught a glimpse of yellow eyes. Like the glowing pupils of some large animal. They disappeared almost immediately.
It wasn’t the first time he’d seen them. Could be a fox, or a crocodile, perhaps a leopard, or even a hyena. Although he really doubted it was a hyena. Too quiet for that noisy pack animal. Never the less, he was convinced he was being stalked by some silent predator.
Hours were passing, and he continued his restless watch.
The night wore on leaving him more and more exhausted, and the chill set in harder. He felt cold in his bones without a fire or proper insulation from the frigid desert night.
He would die of exposure before he was ever rescued by his priests.
Atem saw the flash of yellow eyes again in his peripheral and scowled at them sleepily.
Or I’ll simply get eaten alive. What an end for a mighty Pharaoh. He should have simply died earlier in the day during the skirmish with the brigands. At least then it would have been in the service of his people, and not alone, lost in the desert, and at the jaws of local wildlife.
Another hour passed, and he couldn’t hold his head up anymore to stay alert. He was so cold.
So tired.
His eyelids drooped. And each blink was a little longer, his mind a little hazier.
He searched for the eyes in the dark, but saw nothing. He heard nothing. He couldn’t hold his eyes open any longer and he drifted out of consciousness.
0000
Atem’s world was a lot brighter when his brain clicked back into consciousness the next morning.
And warmer.
So much warmer. He’d been so cold the night before and now he was wrapped in a blanket of warmth and fluffy comfort.
It felt like his head was pillowed against a cloud. A slightly dusty, musky scented cloud with an edge of sweetness, almost like grass. It was pleasant.
In fact everything was pleasant. Even the comforting weight settled over him. Atem didn’t want to move. Didn’t even want to wake up. Instead, he inhaled the pleasant scent again and tried to drift back to sleep.
His hand reached up to sink fingers into soft fur and snuggled deeper into his pillow.
Which gasped, and shifted beneath him.
Atem’s eyes shot open, getting an eyeful of white and tawny red-gold fur. Something like a tail swished just over the swell of golden fur he’d taken a handful of. He was up in an instant, flailing against feathers, and violently slapping a large wing off of himself as he stumbled to get away.
“Ouch!” a stranger’s voice yelped.
He ended up crawling backwards through sand and grasses. Drawing his knife—his khopesh having gotten lost when his horse threw him in the strange and sudden sand storm—he pointed the blade, putting as much distance as he could between himself and the strange creature he’d been cuddled up to only moments before.
“What in Ra’s name are you?” Atem demanded.
The creature blinked large and bewitching purple eyes at him. “What does it look like?” It asked, sounding almost offended. It shook out one of its large black-tipped white feathered wings, as if shaking off pain, before gingerly folding the appendage against its back. “In fact I’m one of the god’s creatures. I’m a sphinx,” it announced rising up on its very feline paws.
This gave Atem a very good look at the creature, and yes. Yes, it was a sphinx. He quickly lowered the knife so as not to disrespect it.
It was not the type of sphinx he was most accustomed to seeing depicted in scrolls and in reliefs. That being a creature with a lion’s body and the head of a human. No, this creature had the head and torso of a human, its arms changing into a feline’s paws starting at the elbow, and its torso becoming a feline’s lower half starting at the stomach.
The stomach that Atem’s head has been pillowed against, he noted. That’s what had been so soft like a cloud. He swallowed thickly.
“It’s been awhile since a human has wandered into my oasis,” the sphinx said conversationally. It took a few steps towards Atem. “What’s your name?”
He wasn’t about to give a magical creature such as this his name. Magical creatures could do dangerous things with your name. “Atem…” the name tumbled off his tongue unbidden. Fuck. He suspected some magic must be at play, but Ra would have to smite him before he would tell this creature he was a Pharaoh. Absolutely no good would come of this creature having that knowledge.
“Atem~” the sphinx tested the name on its tongue, and smiled brightly at him. “Hi Atem! My name is Yugi,” as it introduced itself it made a tight circle giving Atem a look at its entire body from nose to the end of its stumpy tail.
It was just like a cat to give someone an eyeful of its ass. If the lack of breasts hadn’t clued him in, Atem could safely conclude that the very effeminate looking creature was indeed a male.
When Yugi turned to face him again he couldn’t quite meet the Sphinx’s eye anymore and sort of looked off to the side instead.
It was actually startling how much the Sphinx’s hair resembled Atem’s. Should he be flattered? Or maybe the sphinx was flattered. It was probably far older than him. Their hair was strikingly similar, both having flowing blonde bangs and unruly black spikes tinged with color at the tips. Although Atem’s hair ended in red, while Yugi’s seemed to be a gradient of purples and reds. That was where the similarities between them seemed to end though. Yugi had large eyes and a small nose, with a slight build and fair skin. Where as Atem had a large nose, thick brows over slanted eyes, with the build of a fighter and brown skin.
“I’m sorry for scaring you when you woke up,” Yugi dipped his head and looked genuinely apologetic.
“What was…that anyway?” Atem jerked his head at the Sphinx and reached a hand down to pluck at some grass, tearing the blades between his fingers.
“I was keeping you warm,” Yugi explained. Almost comically large cat ears flicked on either side of his head, disturbing locks of hair as they did. Atem could make out black tufts of fur on the ends of the ears that reminded him very much of a caracal. Yugi kept his distance but sat back on his haunches. His wings adjusted on his back, fluttering a bit before folding back into place. “You were so cold, shivering in your sleep, and well… the elements don’t bother me.” he shrugged. “So I curled up beside you, and covered you with my wing.”
Atem narrowed his eyes at the creature. Were sphinxes usually so kind? He couldn’t recall many stories about sphinxes but the stories he did recall they were always dangerous and tricksy. “I suppose I owe you a debt now, don’t I?” He growled out, tossing his handful of shredded grass on the sand before him.
Yugi blinked at him. “No? Oh well maybe…” he tilted his head and it looked like the wheels had begun to turn in his mind. “Why?” he asked slowly.
“Because you probably saved my life. Kept me from succumbing to exposure or something.” Atem explained impatiently. He didn’t want to be in debt to a magical creature, but he was also a Pharaoh and it could spell disaster to leave debts unpaid. Should the sphinx ever find out he was a pharaoh and decide to collect on the debt it might ask for something outrageous. Like a child, or a golden statue in its likeness, or perhaps to stay in his palace to live like a king. “Creatures like you always want payment for a life saved.”
Yugi seemed to consider this, all the while studying Atem curiously. “I suppose that’s true,” he purred. “How about we play a game? Win, and consider the debt repaid. Your life will be your own. But should you lose, then your life is mine.” This time when the little Sphinx grinned at him it was far more predatory. If he wasn’t so adorable Atem might have felt more intimidated.
A game? A smug sense of triumph curled in Atem’s stomach. A game wasn’t so bad. He was excellent at games. “What kind of game?” Atem hedged warily. Skills aside, making a deal with any magical creature was extremely dangerous, but especially with a sphinx.
Yugi laid down on the ground and crossed his front paws. “Oh, nothing complicated. Just a simple game of riddles~”
Atem adjusted until he was sitting cross-legged facing the Sphinx. He placed his hands on his knees and did his best to school his expression with confidence. “Alright then. I’ll play your game.”
“Great!” Yugi chirped happily, and his cat butt wiggled with excitement. “I will start.”
Atem bit his cheek and silently reminded himself that this cuteness was probably a facade. He would focus…and he would win.
