@eternalxloyalxspirits / cont. from.
𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐋𝐀𝐕𝐎𝐑 𝐎𝐅 𝐃𝐄𝐅𝐈𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄 𝐈𝐒 as sweet as that of regret and sorrow and all the same, pointless in the face of pitch-black darkness. The way the priest's sudden burst of resistance begins to die down as quickly is the rawest example one can ever offer, he'd say. ❝ Hush now, 𝑴𝒂𝒉𝒂𝒅. ❞ For the first time, the priest's name spills from the dark King's mouth, it is a sign of acknowledge. And the more they fall into darkness, the more acknowledged they become — the delighted look in his amethyst eyes is a sure proof of that. ❝ It is almost over now. Feeling good, I bet. ❞ There is this indescribable feeling — a kind of sensation that intoxicates one's entire being once darkness begins to seep into the cracks of the soul and make a nest out of it ; amplifying the very source of its powers and strength to unnatural levels. And that, ought to feel good, 𝘩𝑒𝑎𝑣𝑒𝑛𝑙𝑦 𝑠𝑜.
Once this little ritual is over, the King's gaze switches back to the Magus of Illusion. The monster has grown to its original state with darkness brimming about its silhouette. A marvelous sight to behold, should he admit. ❝ Look at your Magus now, fascinating, isn't he? Even the spirits think so. ❞ When his attention falls back on the other, the hand that has been resting on their chest rises to grab a hold of their chin; only to yank it slightly down to meet their gaze. Amused, his grin widens.
❝ And you are too, if I must admit. ❞
#eternalxloyalxspirits#( ooh. OOHHH. I suddenly have this idea where Kura? Ends up winning the battle once Mahad truly becomes his servant ???????????? )#( And they rule Egypt for a while until ? Seth ? Opposes his rule ??? )#( AAA I THINK IM LOVING THIS IDEA )#( also this is totally unnecessary but mahad in black robes and with red eyes while using dark magic - imagine - )

"Oh....well..."
This was...a bit troubling. While his Prince had all of the knowledge of a modern day young adult who had grown up in this era....
Mahad....didn't.
Having been sealed in stone for the past three millennia, he was finding it....much harder to understand what precisely he was looking at.
'Can you pick up some of these from the store today? It's alright if you can't, it would just help a lot.'
He looked down at the....cellphone. That was the word for it. And then back at the list. Google? What even was google? And how was he supposed to get a map from it?
"I wish....I could just magick some food...." Alas, that would be stealing, as he could not leave any currency in its place....

Can we take a moment to appreciate the compatibility of unconventional Yamis and Hikaris?
As Atem and Marik were not masters of their destinies, they were the heirs of a great responsibility that they did not want, they were so small when the whole world fell on their shoulders and they did what they could with their lack of maturity to move forward.
They are both afraid of the dark (because of the initiation and being locked in the puzzle for 3000 years) and there were only two people around them to take care of them properly (Isis and Rishid and Mahad and Mana) they were children who had to become adults of blow, Marik was freed from his responsibility, Atem had to follow the rules.

Bakura and Yūgi were alone and isolated from the others due to their particular characteristics (white hair and obsession with games) and they only had one consolation (Diabound and Grandpa). Of course, as they grew up, there was someone else who gave them what they needed to keep them company ( Zorc and Anzu).
They are both afraid of fire (the Kul Elna massacre and the fire in Black Clown), they were children who just wanted to be understood, Yūgi got it, Bakura didn't.
Yami Marik and Ryou were isolated in their own body, sharing space with someone who didn't appreciate them, can you imagine the traumas those two had with impersonalization? Of not knowing how to be themselves because they didn't have time for that because they were locked behind someone else? Carrying the deaths of his family on his conscience and with the guilt, but Ryou was able to start living after Bakura was defeated, Yami Marik was vanished.

I mean, everyone loves Puzzleshipping, Thiefshipping, tendershipping (and I do too, they're amazing, I really love them) but the level of understanding they have for these couples is just amazing, imagining Atem and Marik comforting each other in the middle of the darkness because they know that the other feels, Bakura and Yūgi talking about how lonely their life was and how painful the fire is, Yami Marik and Ryou have a cathartic moment when they discover that they are their own people with a body of their own and can think about their future.
I don't know, I want to cry, they are perfect for each other and they don't get enough appreciation.

YU-GI-OH “Historical” Headcannon
Hello, it's been quite some time. But finally, I took time to finish this draft!
Small necessary disclaimers :
⚠️ Excuse my english, I'm not native.
⚠️ It's hard to find the balance between historical and fun to write. So somethings I might have said in my previous post won't technically matter here.
Fandom : Yu-Gi-Oh (manga + anime)
✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦
General
Atem
His mother died during childbirth. That would explain the absence of brother and sister.
He had a nurse, potentially Maana's mother since it was said they knew each other since childhood.
Aside from that he had a pretty lonely childhood, he is the future pharaoh, a god among the humans. So every relationship starts with a massive imbalance.
He lacked connection with people basically. (Except Mahad and Maana)
Pharoh used to be disconnected from their people, they were symbols before humans
He had and still has an issue with eye contact. Either he doesn't look at people at all or just fixes someone intensely. No in-between.
Young Atem couldn’t stay put unless someone was brushing his hair.
Even older he has a very soft spot and liking when he gets pampered. He loves long baths or when someone does his make-up or again brushing his hair.
Atem has no issues with nudity, again the clothes were very reviling,
Atem might be anxious when completely alone. He’s so used to being with all his servants, advisers etc. ect that when the silence finally arrives and his alone in his bed he tends to feel weird.
He adores cats. But, he used to be a bit too enthusiastic and a cat scratched him and since then he let them come to him but never engaged with them.
Atem would pass hours at the temple, and his surroundings would think of him as a very pious man, but it was for the cats AND for Priest Seto.
Priest Seto
Priest Seto has the longest and lushiest (?) hair known to exist.
He loves cats and cats love him back.
Priest Seto knows his eyeliner, he does it in the first stroke and it’s always perfect
Child Seto because of his blue eyes was looked at a lot, not in a bad way but more like he was unusual looking.
Seto’s eyes allowed him to be noticed by priests as a “Child of the Gods” since some shades of blue seem to be linked to the sky and the divine in ancient Egypt.
Seto loves to read, and temples were known to be filled with a lot of scriptures.
Seto is more in touch with the people than Atem, since priests were also magicians and doctors
Priest Seto is so loyal to the Pharaoh not only because Atem is the heir of the gods he worships but also because younger they both used to pet the temple’s cat.
Priest Seto is good at what Atem doesn’t like to deal with. That’s why even tho he’s young his one of Atem’s favourite ministers.
Seto likes to walk alone at night under the stars.
Relationship Headcannons (I know you were looking for it)
But how do we end up in a relationship with those two cuties, and still be accurate historically ?? Well, my friend here is what I could think of.
Atem :
To be 1st wife material, sadly you’ll have to from the family OR a very very influential heir/heiress of a nobleman.
If you’re not 1st wife material > You’ll have to be part of his harem as either: a skilled person or maybe an heiress of an enemy tribe who has been vanquished or is in alliance.
Wait let me explain, Harem in ancient Egypt isn’t what we commonly think. The pharaoh’s harem was, surely to entertain the Pharaoh but also to showcase skill and the Egyptian culture in a way.
So we can imagine here so very skilled shadow game players or very beautiful dancers etc.
Seto :
Find no source to say that priest took a celibacy oath so you can imagine anything you want.
(Personally, I have my small fantasy of forbidden love between him and an OC priestess because I love drama)
✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦✦
Here you have it. It’s not much but hope it at least entertains one or two people. I might have one or two more ideas but who knows. Have a lovely day
If you have any questions please to ask me and if you need sources again ask 😽
Bisous Bye <3

Fun fact about Atem and Abidos: Given the real life Pharaoh's they're supposedly based on, Amenhotep II and Tutankhamen respectively, Abidos is actually Atem's great-great-great-great-great grandson (or he can be Set's given that Atem died)! He and Jaden are technically cousins via adoption since Atem sees Jaden as his nephew, and it is highly likely that Jaden will pass onto the Field of Reeds since members of the Royal family get a free pass there no matter their crimes (looking at Aknadin here).
Also the Shadow Charm Abidos was given allows the dead to enter the realm of the living. Just imagine Atem finding out and thinking 'Seto could have waited a few years and Jaden would have given him the means for me to visit without him risking his life?!' or something.
This is all wonderful!! Thank you for sharing this information. I’m going to have to do research on those two pharaohs.
In cannon Jaden is the one collecting the shadow charms and I can just imagine him calling Atem after he gets a new one and the two of them trying to figure out what it does and where to store it.
Abidos charm has to frustrate him. Its power is allow the dead to enter the realm of the living… with their own body.
All he had to do to have his own body was find this shadow charm. His time sharing a body with Yugi will always be dear to both of them. But if they could have separated he could have protected Yugi and their friends better.
But he also has to laugh because of course one of the shadow riders was an Egyptian pharaoh. They are some of the best duelist. Until Jaden tells him that Abidos was not only a terrible duelist but was also proposed to him.
On one hand how dare an Egyptian pharaoh not be a good duelist. What was this kid’s court doing? It’s their job to prepare their pharaoh for what might come, not cater to his ego. (Yes the pharaoh had absolutely rule but when they were young it was the courts job to guide them.)
On the other who does this kid think he is proposing to Atem’s nephew. Yes Jaden is adopted but that doesn’t make him any less Atem’s nephew, and that makes him a prince of Egypt. Someone who will be welcomed into the Field of Reeds with open arms.
This Abidos, Atem had to look him up, was a far distant relative. To far down the line of Set’s dependents to actually hold any true connection to Atem. He was a minor pharaoh who had accomplished nothing with his short reign except the title ‘undefeated.’ Which turned out to be a lie?? Where did this pharaoh get the idea that he was good enough for Jaden? (Atem knows where it’s the idea that a pharaoh is always right and entitled to everything.) Well his nephew was to good for this fake duelist.
Arem is already communicating with Mahad about making sure this kid isn’t around when Jaden passes (he will most likely pass first and will be there to stop it himself but you have to make back up plans. Morbid back up plans) he’s quite frustrated when he learns that the young pharaoh is hanging out with his court, learning dueling, and waiting for Jaden.
He can’t be to mad. The kid is trying to improve his skills. But he’s going to have to improve a lot to make himself worthy of Atem’s nephew. And he better be ready. When Atem dies (the second time) he’s marching right up to him and challenging him to a duel. If he can’t beat Atem he won’t get near to Jaden.

random vaguely prideshipping-but-mostly-dsod thoughts part 2
part 1 here
kaiba's kneepads in dsod?!?!? they're so ridiculous i love them so much (he is prepared to see atem again. in all sense of the word.)
eras tour at kaibacorp stadium!!!! kaiba would fucking love mastermind. mokuba is a you're on your own kid girlie. atem is all about karma.
"we should have known [ai atem] was designed by kaiba as soon as we saw the extra-dramatic coat" and his perfectly-coiffed hair
where is the kc space station anyway? the iguanas are endemic to the galapagos?? how would kaiba have gotten a permit to build there in the first place??
ishizu must have been so pissed off when she hears about kaiba digging up atem's tomb again
she's gonna hit him with the big hammer (millennium rod) if he ever comes back from the damn afterlife
kaiba is So Obsessed, i can't believe this is all canon?? we'd call it ooc if it was in fanon tbh
sometimes i think about atem and kaiba breaking into kaibacorp in the orichalchos arc. "i think you're nuts. but this isn't the time or place to argue." "i trusted you, now you have to trust me." and then atem is the only person to ever ride in the blue-eyes jet besides mokuba??
YOU HAVE YOUR BOND WITH HIM AND I HAVE MINE
poor yugi is realizing a few things
kaiba and his dragons are just so much. pandemic dragon??????
being a regular non-dueling citizen in domino must be so confusing. who is this pharaoh they keep talking about?!
yugi tries to walk kaiba through the five stages of grief in the span of one duel
i like to imagine that kaiba's dislike of the dark magician is a remnant of seto and mahad's ancient rivalry
"oooof. he's looked better." seto kaiba, my big bitch <3
how many times has kaiba died to save the world or his dueling partner (or both)
palladium oracle mahad is the coolest version of him tbh
the ending is always so good. not just for the reunion, but for how open-ended it is?? lots of great ways for fanon to expand the story yay we love that

Heeey!! :D Could I request a lee!marc/lee!reader and ler!jake with the
“You’re lucky to have me!” “70% of people who win the lottery become worse off than they were before.”
Maybe Marc/Reader says it and Jake gets playfully offended and wrecks em for it??
(Hope you’re doing well, have a nice day/night!! <3)
(This was a cute one @just-a-fluffy-knight ❤️Had to make it Marc after our previous conversation ❤️😁 Hope you enjoy! ❤️ :))
"You're lucky to have me!"
"70% of people who win the lottery become worse off than they were before."
Jake turned to Marc. "Take that back!"
The older knight just shrugged.
A moment later, the younger knight's shadow passed over Marc.
Marc looked up.
"Take it back," Jake hissed.
Without a word, Marc looked back down at his phone.
Jake immediately jumped on top of his older counterpart, successfully tossing his phone aside.
"Jake!"
"Ci hermano?"
"What are you doing!"
The younger knight pinned Marc's wrists under his knees. "You insult me with la actitud and don't expect me to take venganza?"
Marc squeaked as his shirt was rolled up. "Wahait!"
Jake stroked his mustache.
"No! Dohont yohou dare!"
"You brought this upon yourself hermano." Jake leaned down.
"Wahait! Jahake, plehease! PleHEEEEASE!"
The younger knight smirked as he continued rubbing his face across Marc's stomach.
The eldest knight squirmed and cackled at the ticklish feeling. Jake was horrendous for keeping his facial hair just to drive the other two insane when he tickled them. It was his favorite tool to use.
"JAKE!" Marc snorted.
"Ci?"
The older knight squealed as Jake kept going. "Come ohohon!"
"Not until you apologize first."
"IhihIIIIIM! NOOOHO!"
The younger knight smirked as he felt the couch shake as Marc's legs drummed into the couch. This prompted him to blow another raspberry into his tummy. "Still not hearing an apology hermano."
"NAAAH! YOHOU JERK!"
Jake lifted his head. "What? Not wanting to disculparse?"
"Ihi cahan't!"
"Can't? Ohor wohon't?"
"Ihi wihill. Ihi wiIIIL! WAIT!"
Jake' head froze mere inches above Marc's stomach.
"Ihim sorryhy! I'm sorryhy!"
"For?"
"Fohor what Ihi sahaid!"
Jake moved a little closer. "Lo que hice?"
"NO!" Marc sucked his stomach in more. "Ihim sorryhy Ihi mahade thehe horrible comment ahabout the lotteryhy and-and knowing yohou!"
The grin on Jake's face grew. He was having fun dragging this out. "What do you think about knowing me?"
"Seriohouslyhy?"
Jake blew another raspberry onto Marc's tummy.
"AHH! YOHOU'RE AWESOME! YOU'RE AHAWESOHOME!"
"Gracias," Jake replied before nuzzling his face into the eldest's side and blowing the longest raspberry he could.
Marc was in stitches as he cackled and drummed his legs into the couch. The added facial hair made the raspberry even more intense!
Once Jake and Marc were both out of breath, Jake finally moved his head away. "That's la advertencia to watch la actitud with me in the future. Comprendido?"
Marc was still giggling. "Understohood."
"Good." The younger knight tugged down Marc's shirt again before climbing off of him.
"Yohoure aha jeherk," Marc breathed.
"Ci." Jake plucked up the eldest's phone.
Marc threw up his arms as his phone sailed over him and hit the couch cushion next to him. "Hey!"
Jake turned to walk out of the living room. "Love you hermano."
Marc rolled his eyes. "Love you tohoo jeherk."
As Jake continued up the stairs, a smile crept across the eldest's face.
Marc picked up his phone. "Ahand Ihi couldn't imagine life withohout yohou."

During the fight with Mahad TKB uses the switch to the giant axeblades and has a line about how he can control the traps in any tomb he's robbed but realistically how often are you going to go back into a tomb you've already robbed and use the traps against someone. is that necessary skill. why would he bother to memorize those. and now I am imagining a looney tunes scenario where TKB hangs out in the main chamber of a tomb and resets all the traps to catch other tomb robbers and proceed to rob those guys also. pyramid replenishment by not telling anyone you got there first. the early bird gets the worm

Egyptian Sites in Yu-Gi-Oh!
The Yu-Gi-Oh! characters visit real and fictional places in Egypt. Here is me trying to make a list of these places and trying to figure out what real places might have inspired the fictional ones :)
Valley of the Kings (chapter 279) : Sugoroku Mutou visits the tomb of the Nameless Pharaoh in the Valley of the Kings (near the modern city of Luxor). The Valley of the Kings is the real burial place of the pharaohs of the New Kingdom. Atem having his tomb at this particular location is a good point of reference to date his reign to the New Kingdom (between 1400 bc and 1000 bc). The tomb of the Nameless Pharaoh, however, is a fictional tomb since no tomb from the Valley of the Kings have traps as imagined in the manga. Also, the Nameless Pharaoh's tomb seems much bigger than that of Tutankhamun's (who has inspired Atem's character). But its size and design are obviously inspired from other real tombs in the valley of the kings.
City of Luxor/Thebes (from chapter 281 and on) : Atem dives in the Memory World and finds himself in what is most probably the ancient city of Luxor (also Thebes). Although Atem's capital city is not explicitly mentioned by name in the manga, it can be guessed from the fact that the Valley of the Kings seems quite close to Atem's palace, in the storyline. Bakura and Mahad both travel from the palace to the valley in very short times. Also, looking at K. Takahashi's drawings, Atem's city counts a lot of palaces, temples and obelisks. Atem living in Thebes also helps to date his reign more specifically between 1400 bc and 1300 bc (18th dynasty).
Palace of Malqata (?) : Atem's palace should therefore be the Palace of Malqata which was the pharaoh's palace in Thebes at around his time. The Palace of Malqata has disappeared entirely today but has been digitally recreated thanks to archeological digs. Fragments of the wall paintings and ceilings have been recovered and can be seen in different museums throughout the world (or on the internet). The Palace of Malqata was located on the West Bank of the Nile (same bank as the Valley of the Kings). Since Mahad and Bakura are never shown crossing the river Nile, Atem's palace being Malqata makes sense. https://antiqueprofil.wixsite.com/palais3d/en/visitevirtuelle
Deir el-Medineh (?) : Is Kul Elna inspired from the village of Deir el-Medineh ? Deir el-Medineh is the village where the tomb builders used to live. The village is still preserved to this day and is located close to the Valley of the Kings where the men used to work. It is said in chapter 308, that the villagers of Kul Elna were former tomb builders that became thieves. Plus, around 1100 bc, the real tomb builders of Deir el-Medineh were involved in tomb robbery. Although the date doesn't fit well with Atem's reign, it is most probable that this historical event inspired the village of thieves of Kul Elna in yugioh. There is quite a big plothole with this theory though: since the villagers of Kul Elna had turned into thieves by the time of Aknamkanon's reign, who, then, have been building Atem's tomb?? And where have his workers been living??Nevertheless, despite the plothole, the location of Deir el-Medineh, right next to the Valley of the Kings and Malqata, could explain Bakura's aptitude to go from Kul Elna to the valley to the palace in short times.

"You mean more to me than anyone else." (from the priest)
Accidental Declaration of Love starters
:。・:*:・゚’★,。・:*:・゚’☆ || @shachou
He needed to clear his head. Sparring upon the sands did little but frustrate him. Karim wiped the floor with him the entire session, eventually conceding by using the king's expression as an excuse.
❝You look tired, my lord. Perhaps we should continue another day.❞
No doubt Karim wished to spare him the humiliation yet he did so with the tact that was expected of a high priest. While Atem could have taken honest critique, he but nodded, dropping his daggers in the sand. Looking to the skies proved easier said than done. With sand beneath his feet, he could think only of his back lying in the warm cushion of it, his purple eyes gazing upon striking blues he sought to avoid these days.
Shaking his head, he slipped away to find the next best distraction. There were quite a few letters upon his desk in need of answering but words were not the best idea given his state of mind. He needed something more; something to take the edge off and if sparring wouldn't do, the other thing surely would.
Normally he stood opposite his cousin, but it was Mahad who insisted on testing his prowess alongside his apprentice. A two on one would make for a test of strength and so Atem agreed without question as they took their duel below ground. Spirit after spirit drew forth from the tablets, the clash of monsters causing the ground to quake beneath them. The battle lasted several minutes with the two mages eventually bowing their heads in defeat, but with a smile. For every duel their pharaoh won, it made him look stronger as their king.
Atem let lips curve into a smile, the first all day. Despite his growing anxiety about the palace, nothing failed to earn a smile quite like a victory in battle.
Atem made to step forward so that he could congratulate Mana. She had come so far and he was impressed by her stamina this round except… except things suddenly went dark and by the time he came to, he was lying in bed looking around his chamber in confusion.
❝My lord?❞
Atem blinked, sitting up in bed as Seto rushed to his side. He looked around in confusion because what even in Ra's name had happened?
❝I don't… understand. I was dueling and then---❞
❝You fainted,❞ his cousin explained softly. ❝Mahad said you were walking towards them and all of a sudden you fell forward. Luckily Mana broke your fall in time. I know just how fussy you can be about your face,❞ he teased, his attempt to lighten the mood proving successful. The king's lips curved into an easy smile although it is short lived. The idea of actually fainting after a duel… He often passed out in bed after dueling Seto but fainting? Out there? He shuddered to imagine what the vizier had to say about it all. No doubt he'd wish to ban him from dueling at all for a while.
❝Shimon?❞ Atem questioned. ❝Did he…say anything?❞
❝Only that you are banned from dueling for a while.❞ Seto paused. ❝And I actually agree with him for once.❞
Atem's head turned quickly, staring at his cousin in disbelief. He could not recall a single instance when Seto FULLY agreed with the old man about ANYTHING. Even during court, they have oft agreed to disagree for the sake of moving things along but this? This was new and it had Atem feeling rather affronted.
❝I am fine, Seto!❞ he huffed. ❝I went into this duel underestimating Mana. I did not think she would push me as much. I know better now so surely you wouldn't side with the vizier when---❞
❝---it was about more than Mana, my lord.❞
Atem looked upon his cousin with a puzzled expression. Did he think him a liar about it all? Or did he truly suspect something else? ❝I do not… understand. It was two on one, Seto. I was pushed to my limit---❞
"Precisely the vizier's point,❞ he added quietly. ❝It is unlike you to allow anyone to push you so far. Mahad is formidable enough, but even when dueling opposite myself, you have never once fainted.❞
❝I was tired---❞
❝---again, proving my point.❞
Atem opened his mouth to speak, but then closed it just as quickly. As he mulled over everything he realized that he could say little that would not make his own argument even weaker. Fact is, he had left the sands after a terrible sparring match restless with his mind on other things. This anxious energy caught up to him after the duel and all energy exerted nearly led to him faceplanting in the tomb below. He folded arms over his chest, looking away from Seto like a petulant child who was receiving a very well deserved punishment. Except it wasn't a punishment --- not really. It was his people protecting the well being of the pharaoh.
❝Pharaoh---❞
❝You can leave now. I am quite tired.❞
He laid back down, rolling over on his side away from Seto. This was very much him sulking about the whole ordeal all because he didn't want to admit that maybe his vizier was right about something for a change.
❝As you wish my lord.❞
Atem could hear his cousin's footsteps as they got farther and farther away from the bed. There's a pause near the door and the words to follow had the king clutching his quilt tighter in an effort not to look his way.
❝For what it is worth my pharaoh, you mean more to me than anyone else in this place. I am always on your side, but I musn't neglect my duties either. I am to keep you safe; look out for your well being at all times. Sometimes it means bringing a frown upon a face that I've no right to look upon softly, but know that my intentions are in the right place. Would that I'd be a lesser servant were I to agree with you always.❞
Atem's breath caught in his throat as the door finally opened then shut, signaling that he was very much alone again. Emptiness washed over him, but more than that was a guilt that settled into the recesses of his heart. The last thing he wished to do was push his cousin away yet he somehow felt that he'd accomplished as much. But that was… a good thing right?
He pulled the covers over his head, burying his face within his pillow. All of a sudden he felt a crippling sadness while his body reminded him of just how right Seto had been. Body aching from head to toe, his dueling days were over… for the time being anyway.

Random thought I had while in bed...
How would Atem be able to handle his emotions in front of his father? I can imagine he wouldn't be afraid to cry in front of his mother because... well, that's his mother. But his father...
I headcanon that even now Atem can still hear his father's words, which is why he still has some conflict about crying.
"A King must not show weakness. A King must always smile. A King must keep his head up, no matter what."
So yes I want Atem to be put in a situation where he's trying not to cry in front of his father. Or rather... he can feel himself start to cry but realizing that his father is right there he tries to hide it, or stop himself from crying because of what he's been taught as Prince.
Also I can imagine one of the reasons why Prince Atem hides in large pots is so he can cry without anyone seeing him.
And now I just had a thought... would he cry in front of Mahad? He's done so in front of Mana, but what about Mahad?

Fever Bright Snippet
For something that was supposed to just be a Whumptober prompt fill, I'm pretty sure Fever Bright is gonna be about 5K total.
-------
Atem traded places with Solomon, gingerly slipping into the seat. Vaguely he heard the others talking, but eventually the room emptied leaving him alone with Yugi.
Atem watched the mask on his face fog up, go clear, then fog up again. He traced the IV line, from the back of Yugi’s hand to a hanging bag. Followed the oxygen line too, connecting the mask on Yugi’s face to a machine beside the bed. Atem watched his chest rise and fall, little hitches in his ribs, and just barely through the mask in the quiet room could Atem hear Yugi’s wheeze. His struggle to breath.
“Oh, partner.” Atem brushed back one of Yugi’s sweaty bangs, fingers lingering on Yugi’s temple. The skin was hot, much hotter than the fever-cold Atem remembered from before. All my body heat rushed to my head, he imagined Yugi joking, even as he heard Joey’s voice as he tried to explain a rice cooker months ago. See, all the heat gathers underneath the pot, and then it spreads out to the sides to boil the water and cook the rice!
Another memory surfaces, a new and older one, of Mahad chastising Mana for spending too much time in the sun. Mana’s face had taken on a darker, ruddy tone as she leaned dizzily on Atem’s shoulder. Mahad had cupped a handful of water from the reflecting pool in the garden and dumped it on her head, then held a wet cloth to her forehead. “We’ll cool you down.”
Atem pressed his hand on Yugi’s forehead, feeling the heat seeping into his palm. He held it there, marveling at how he could touch Yugi, even as lost to a fever as he was. His skin was soft, but wet with sweat. His hair a coarse brush against the edge of Atem’s pinkie. Yugi’s hand in his was lax, but warm with calloused fingertips.
“This wasn’t how I wanted to touch you,” Atem whispered, trailing his hand down Yugi’s forehead to cup his cheek awkwardly, careful of the oxygen mask. “And if there is a chance, a chance, of this being my fault I’ll go back to the Field of Reeds.”

Bio:
Yami Yugi Moto, was once a Pharaoh named Atem. His father had created the millennium items in an attempt to stop a great war from happening, only it cost the lives of thousands of people from a small village stricken with poverty and thieves. The Egyptian Gods themselves: Osiris, Ra and Obelisk had all planned to punish his father until he came to an ancient tomb the Gods choose as sacred ground to beg for them to punish him but leave Atem alone.
Despite being the heir of Egypt, he had a relatively happy childhood. His mother had died in childbirth but his father tried his best to make sure Atem would grow up to be a strong, kind and confident pharaoh one day. He would befriend his bodyguard, Mahad, and a girl named Mana who worked in the palace.
The three of them were best friends, Atem even saving Mahad's life from a venomous snake. A new priest was also appointed by the name of Seto, though neither of them knew they were actually cousins. He didn't even know that his father had a brother in the first place, likely their relationship was strained or kept a secret as to avoid the royal bloodline from being wiped out by assassins.
On the day he was appointed Pharaoh, shortly after his father had passed away from an illness, Bakura the thief king had stepped in to announce he would murder him. It turns out that the king of thieves was the only survivor from the genocide that occurred when making the millennium items. He would challenge him to a dark game, using spirits (or 'ka' as they are called). Though this duel would be cut short, Atem realized that a darkness greater than he could ever imagined was growing.
Zorc was the ultimate evil darkness, slowly processing the thief king Bakura and would soon kill Atem's closest friend, Mahad. His ka would be sealed within a stone tablet where he would now be referred to as the Dark Magician.
As Zorc was wrecking havoc across Egypt and close to destroying the world, along with the mayhem of Thief King Bakura fused with him, Atem would unleash a incredibly powerful spell that would seal Zorc and himself within the Millennium puzzle. This meant that Atem would now struggle against an inner darkness, one he had never known before. While Bakura's soul would be sealed inside the Millennium ring that he had stolen from Mahad.
Yet his plan was to someday become stronger and finally defeat Zorc, only he hadn't expected that his memories would be lost in the process. Though not entirely without a backup, for he had entrusted the Ishtar bloodline to forever relay his plan for generations to come. Though even he wouldn't know how violent that would turn out, for they would carve this plan onto their body.
Atem lay asleep within the Millennium pendent, it was shattered into pieces like a puzzle for someone to solve. Hoping whoever could solve it would be powerful enough to help stop Zorc.
A man named Sugoroku Moto would soon stumble across this puzzle on a archeology trip and would give it to his grandson, Yugi Moto. Upon completing the now millennium puzzle, Atem's darkness-infused soul had now fused with Yugi's. Now making him Yami Yugi.
He was incredibly sadistic at first with a love of games with gruesome endings for the loser. This included someone being burned alive if they cheated, sealed inside a giant egg or killing themselves. Yugi did not know of Yami Yugi's cruel nature, for their souls switching had been unknown to the younger one. Many would start to notice Yugi's voice grew deeper, he grew taller and he had a stronger approach to him.
Yet as time went on, Yami Yugi would finally begin to calm down with every duel. He was learning kindness again and to respect your losing opponent, it was just a baby step in defeating the darkness inside him since he had fused Zorc's evil within him.
Though soon enough, Yugi and Yami Yugi would find out their existence and learn to talk to one another. They would become an incredibly strong team, with the two of them referring to themselves as their other half. Had Yami Yugi had his own body, they might've even been twins to many people despite their difference in age.
Slowly but surely, Yugi would help his other half find out about his past and learn from Ishizu Ishtar that Yami Yugi was meant to save the world all over again from an evil power. Though it seems just who or what this evil was had been lost to time, even to the Tomb Keepers.
Yami Yugi currently remembers very little about his life before being sealed within the puzzle, though he does not remember his true name. Participating in Battle City was a lot for him to process so the two of them are currently taking things slow again as they wait for the stone tablet the Egyptian God cards were based on to be transported back to Egypt so he can face his destiny once and for all.
Although he was once incredibly sadistic and almost evil, the Yami Yugi today is completely different. He's confident, assertive, a believer in justice and kind towards those in need. If someone was being harassed, he is absolutely the type to step in and challenge them to a game that he knows he'll win. Even if it's a game he doesn't know, he's more than willing to learn as a lover of games.
Yet he isn't perfect either. Due to his high confidence, he had a tendency to crumble down and nearly give up if his plans don't go the way he wanted. He also holds a lot of guilt inside of himself when he can't help someone that he knows needed his help, like watching his friends nearly die from dark games. He also doesn't seem to understand when he's challenging someone who could absolutely beat him.
Yami Yugi and Yugi are currently labeled the "King of Games" after winning the Kaibacorp Battle City tournament, and mastering just about any game thrown at him.

Cont. [x] // @xpharaohsaiboux
He hasn’t realized how quickly his heart is beating, even after they got up. Or maybe that was it— too much excitement and suddenly standing up. The slight and brief dizziness made Atem feel as light as feather but he doesn’t mind. It goes away quickly. His heartbeat’s rhythm gradually is then normalized as soon as the adrenaline rush diminishes. Mahad is looking at him and Yuugi from the small distance. Usually, he’s quick to stand before the pharaoh in a protective stance. But he knows it’s not needed. He knows Yuugi. And he is smiling to see him. And he’s probably just as happy as Atem is. And now if only Mana was here, she would be squealing about their reunion. That’s alright, she is at the palace somewhere, unsuspecting. It would be a big surprise.
Atem holds onto Yuugi’s hand despite not needing to anymore. He wants to feel his presence. It feels all too surreal. This is his partner. He’d thought that the second he passed the gates to the afterlife, that would be it. He would only have the memory of the friends he cherishes so dearly. He’d accepted it. Although, he did have days where he didn’t want to get up from bed, daydreaming of every moment with his friends that was engraved in his head. But he knew that he shouldn’t brood. He is back home, with his former friends. And he shouldn’t neglect that fact.
The pharaoh chuckles as the guards show signs of surprise when Yuugi spoke their language. It is impressive, to say the least.
“Is that so? I’m impressed.” He displays a smile. Though, he might be a tad upset thinking about the idea of not remembering Yuugi. He is glad that even after he crossed the afterlife he didn’t forget the memories he made in Domino City. And he wouldn’t want to imagine how it would’ve been if Yuugi came here when no one remembered him. He shake his head to rid himself from these thoughts.
“Come, I can show you around the palace. Mana will be really happy to see you.” He turns to glance at the high priest. “And I'm sure Mahad is too.” The time Yuugi pretty much landed on Atem was right when he'd walked down the stairs after he got up from his throne. A few other members of the court are observing the occurrence in the background.

Know what I like so much about the Ennead canon, even with events of the original Yugioh? The theme of how our actions can damage others in ways we can't imagine, like how the events back in Ancient Egypt affects Yugi and her generation in Japan a whole 3 000 years later. Akhenaden creating the Millenium Items? The Sacred Guardian who betrayed the Nameless Pharaoh by making it seem like Ba-Khu-Ra was behind the poison attack on her and Ba-Khu-Ra getting attacked as well, with the appearance of Mahad showing up to "arrest" her for the poison attack? The Nameless Pharaoh creating the Seal with her True Name and thus giving up that personal name twice? So much consequences that none of them could have imagined at the time
Thanks!!!
I have a pinboard in my head connecting it all but sometimes I have to go back and reread things I wrote years ago to make sure I'm not contradicting myself.

What are your favourite ships for Kaiba?
Unlike how much I multiship jou with anyone I’m pretty stingy with who I pair kaiba up with 😂
The only two people I like with him is jounouchi & ishizu. I get the appeal of the other ships with him they’re just not my cup of tea but for the most part I can tolerate them.
Actually a set x seto wouldn’t be bad aesthetic wise 🤔 lol but on the topic of set/Seth/whatever you wanna call him I recognize kisara was prob his 1st love but lemmie tell you I do not care lmao. I despise exotic lady with unimaginable power that either sacrifices herself for a man or gives her powers up for a man plotpoints with a passion. Stand up!! Never do anything for a man even if they’re seto kaiba 😭
anyway I think set & isis is interesting only bc I hc that she was in love with mahad & so now they both know the feeling of their 1st loves turning into monster spirits & considering the millennium tauk & rod get passed down from gen to gen I imagine she became his wife.
Set & Mahad seems a lil spicy too I wouldn’t mind seeing some of that
