I was asked by @grasswatcher for fics that explore STAR WARS’ Jedi culture and this is one of those subjects that’s dearest to my heart, because I constantly crave more exploration of what it must be like to be a Level 100 Space Psychic in touch with an ancient, unfathomable energy field that creates feedback loops in your head and connects you to all living things and can overwhelm you so easily if you don’t have your shit together, just as much as I want to know about Jedi traditions and Jedi artwork and Jedi philosophy and Jedi stories and Jedi language and all of it. There have been some pretty stellar ones out there, sometimes deep dives, sometimes just weaving bits into the background and I love them all and want a thousand more immediately! A kinda useless ask for your followers since they probably already know, but could you somehow introduce me to the art that's roleplaying? I have always wanted to roleplay my fav character but I have like zero confidence and kinda lack motivation. What do I need to do to be a (good, preferably) roleplayer? ;_;

Ah, hello there anon! Roleplaying can be kinda scary, but don’t worry; it’s a lot easier to do than you think!

This guide applies to roleplaying on Tumblr, but if that’s not what you meant, I’ll include a section at the end for just general roleplaying.

Guide under the cut since there’s a lot of pictures.

First thing’s first: if you’re roleplaying, you need a character, or a muse. But it sounds like you already have that, so we’ll go to step 2: a blog. This can be a main blog, or a sideblog; it’s preference. Take in mind if it’s a sideblog that you’ll need to advertise on your blog that it’s a sideblog to another.

On that blog, you need a theme. Above all, that theme needs to be readable so people can tell what’s on it, and it needs to be able to have clear links to pages. These can be custom, or just some of the free themes offered by tumblr. My personal preference is custom themes since they’re usually easier to personalize to the muse I’m playing. Oh, and choose a theme with a home button. Makes it a lot easier for people to get back to it after checking pages.

Now, onto the next step: What pages do you make? Let’s take a look at mine for examples.

You’ll notice on my blog the very first custom link I have is rules. This lets people know what you’re okay with roleplaying, and what your limits are. You’ll see things on this page like “selective” and “mutuals only” on some blogs. Selective means they’re picky with who they roleplay with, and mutuals only means they only roleplay with people they follow who follow them back.

I have these two pages separate, but you can combine them if you like. These pages are basically your muse’s backstory and your personal head canons about them. Some people will list their head canons, and some will just link to the tag they use for head canons. This is so people can learn about your muse if they don’t know them.

Then there’s the verses page. This is only necessary if you plan on having alternate universes for your character. But if you do, this page explains what they are, and should list a any tags you use for them.

The last main type of page is the mun page. This basically lists a little bit about the mun, or the person running the blog. You don’t need it, but some people like having it.

Other kinds of pages you include can be a general about page for the blog, a tag listing page, artwork page, list of drabbles if you’re like me and like just writing little stories of your muse. The list could go on, but the above are the essentials.

Now that you have the blog essentials, let’s get to the best part.

Actual Roleplaying

To roleplay, you only need 2 things. A muse, and a partner with their own muse. Generally, all you need to do is read someone’s rule, read about their muse, and then go ask them if they’d like to RP with you. If you’re too shy, you can send them some asks on anon first about their muse (trust me, people love that), or send in some ask prompts/memes they may have reblogged.

Once you’ve asked them to RP, and they agree, then you have 2 options. You can either plan the RP out (plotting), or just start it and ad lib the whole thing (winging it, which is what I usually do). It just depends on you and your partner’s preferences, and the kind of muses you have. Some muses, al a Clockwork the canon infomodder, require more of one style of rp than the other.

And then comes the hardest part: starting the thread, or RP chain. Unless you start a thread off an ask prompt, one of you needs to write a starter post for your roleplay. Generally it’ll come down to who’s more comfortable writing the start of the setting and explanation for why their muse is there.

From there, it’s a general matter of writing your character’s responses to your partner’s post in a reblog. This’ll eventually require trimming, aka getting rid of past replies to keep the post from getting too long. I recommend Xkit’s editable post extension for this so that you can keep your partner’s last reblog in the post (some followers like to read roleplays, and it helps keep the context).

Also, as a note, some people prefer having threads started by ask prompts in a new post to keep the ask from clogging it up; if that’s the case, start the text post with a link to the ask and tag the person in it so they know what’s going on.

Alright, now for the basic not-tumblr-specific RP guide.

It’s pretty similar to what I put above, but with a few differences. You of course need a muse and RP partner, and a starter for your thread, but since you’re not using tumblr posts, you’ll need a place to have your roleplay. This can be a forum thread, or an IM chat. In that case, in stead of reblogging the thread, you just make new posts in the thread to continue it. It’s just back-and-forth posting/messaging between you. If there’s more than 2 people in the thread, then take turns replying to each other.

Note that you probably won’t have pages for information, so you’ll need to make sure you and your partner have very good communication about your rp comforts and muses.

It’s very easy in any RP thread for things to get out of control, and you need good communication to keep this from happening. If your muse has special abilities or triggers, this needs to be communicated. If something happens that you’re not comfortable with, communicate it.

And in general, there’s some rules you need to follow for all roleplays.

No godmodding. Godmodding is making your muse all-beloved, super strong, super smart, super powerful, no flaws, no personal predicaments, always right, always the center of attention, aka like a god. Basically, everything this video says, try to avoid.

The above also includes controlling the other person’s muse, which is a huge no. Never control your partner’s muse. never.

No metagaming. This is plain and simple; metagaming is your muse knowing something they shouldn’t. Remember to keep ooc knowledge and ic knowledge separate.

No auto-hitting. Auto-hitting is exactly what it sounds like; your muse hits without giving the person a chance to dodge or defend. If you write fights, never assume a hit in your reply unless your partner says you can.

Don’t force a ship. It’s just courtesy, don’t try and force a ship to happen with your RP partner unless it’s a mutual agreement. It’s rude otherwise.

And unless it’s agreed upon or canon, don’t have your muse automatically know the other muse or have a pre-established relationship with them. Hell, half the fun of rping is forging those character relationships!

This probably seems like a lot, but most of it’s the case of “the explanation is longer than the actual thing you’re doing”. All in all, roleplaying might seem like an art, but I personally like to think of it-in the words of an old, old acquaintance of mine-like we’re all writing a big story together. And you’re building off each other’s writing, having fun while improving your writing skills in the process.

Remember, the most important part is for everyone to have fun and enjoy themselves writing their muses!

Everyone and their grandmothers are making fanworks for it haha which I’ll be forever grateful for, actually, dragons are my #1 weakness and the more dragon!Kiri I have the happier I am (best version of it I’ve seen yet is syb’s but lbr she’s my fav artist and I’m weak) (also requirings has an ongoing comic series with those premises!!!! I’m living for it)

I mentioned this in the tags under that specific post already, but I guess repeating it won’t hurt, so! It happened during the End of Term Exam! (this is gonna be spoiler if you’re only watching the anime) All Might put them in the position where they ended up being forced to try, but it lasted less than 30 seconds before they broke apart - to set in somewhere in the canon exam... after Deku pulled Bakugou away but before their combined attack. Like, when they were coming up with a strategy to take All Might out they first tried fusing, but it just didn’t work and their time was too limited to try and force it.

Anyway if they were to try again now they’d probably last way longer, but at this point neither of them has felt the need to give it a try just yet haha

For the same reason actually adopting Mako took longer than it would have taken in normal circumstances, and even after they finally managed to bring her home they still had social assistants coming around randomly to make sure she was safe and healthy and loved/cared for way more often and for way longer than other adopting couples did. They still come around now and again, just to make sure. Taiyou’s situation was way easier anyway, since all these kind of problems were already dealt with when they adopted Mako!

Hello all of you lovelies! ^^

For the second year Zexal Month will be hosted by only myself ( @wendymoto ). @yaminoamber has a big big work commitment IN FRANCE CAN YOU BELIEVE IT. Our lovely Amber will be ascended into French territory and won’t be back until December. She’ll have bits and pieces of internet, but work comes first! So please send Amber your wishes and luck. <3

Before I start the information, I would just like to mention that with each week, I will be holding a ‘Content Creator’s Showcase’. Information on how this works and how to ‘enter’ will be posted separately from this information post. Stay tuned!

For the moment we’ve all been waiting for, the ZEXAL MONTH INFORMATION.

This year I wanted to do things a bit differently to allow a lot more creative subjects. and because of this, weeks might look messy. Nevertheless I will learn from it if things don’t go as planned or if anyone has any concerns or ideas for next year, feel free to message me.

How you choose to contribute is entirely up to you.

For example, you could gif, draw, write, edit etc. The options are endless. Participating every day is not required!

Rules:

DO NOT REPOST ART FROM OTHER SITES WITHOUT PERMISSION. This includes artists on tumblr. Do not take their work without permission. These include sites that most reposted art are found. (E.g Paintbucket and sites like it, pinterest, instagram etc.)

Respect everyone’s work, headcanon etc.

Please respect any OC’s, fan characters, self inserts etc. Even if you don’t like them, they would mean the world to the creators. I’ll be tagging as ‘zexal oc’s’ if you would like to blacklist that.

Please tag ‘nsfw’ things as they are. Or triggers if you feel the need too.

Tuesday 1st - Sunday 6th

Tuesday:

Design a new outfit DAY!

This is self explanatory. Pick characters and draw any and all outfits you like. Put them in some of your clothes if you want! Be as fashionable or as ridiculous as you like (This day was inspired by Yuuma in episode 9!)

Wednesday:

Different Characters who were not Barians or Astral beings as Barians or Astral beings E.g. Draw/write their past or a scene with other Barians/Astral beings.

Anyone who has thought of other characters as the Barian/Astral race, it’s your time to shine! You can use your imagination to experiment with design ideas, backstories, duels, scenes, headcanons and more.

Thursday:

ZEXAL imagines. (From the tumblr blogs)

Pick one of the examples from the 100+ imagines blogs and go with it. You don’t have to use these blogs, they are just examples. Please link to the post from the imagines that you choose.

Alternate Death Day:

As we know, many characters died in the last arc of Zexal. Today is a day to re-do their deaths in perhaps a more meaningful/impactful/traumatic way. Or if you prefer, plan the death of a character who didn’t actually die at all. How would that go? Let us know on Death Day!

Monday 7th - Sunday 13th

Monday:

YGO/YGO ZEXAL crossover Day! (Any Yu-Gi-Oh! series crossed with ZEXAL.)

This one is as simple as anything. Only rule is you’re combining Yugioh and Yugioh: whether it’s one of the other series, from Season 0 to VRAINS, or with one of the many YGO movies, anything goes!

Tuesday:

Card game crossovers Day. E.g. Vanguard, Magic of the Gather or even UNO.

Any other card game crossovers with ZEXAL that you would love to show off. This day is for you!

For extra convenience, I have found a Magical Card Anime and Manga list and a mass list of Card Games.

Wednesday:

Take your new/current fandom and ZEXAL and squish ‘em together!

FANDOM’S EVERYWHERE. Fandom’s that you’re in now crossed with ZEXAL. Squish ‘em together in one huge pile and display it for the world! Due to the fact that we already had days for them, other YGOs and Card Game Anime are excluded: pick another fandom for this day!

Thursday:

Question time! Any ZEXAL mysteries that weren’t solved that you wished were solved?

List, describe or show your headcanons for those mysteries if you have any.

Friday:

Free Crossover Day.

Any crossover with ZEXAL that you would like to make, plop them into a post and post it today!

Sat/Sun: Catch up/Preparing weekend.

Monday 14th - Sunday 20th

Monday:

OC/Fan Character Day!

Feel free to do anything with your OCs on this day! Show and explain them. Draw them in an outfit, tell us what they do, what decks they use or if they do not duel. Anything goes with OC’s today!

Tuesday:

Self Insert Day.

This day is mostly an experiment for Zexal Month. I’ve recently seen plenty of fandom’s do these kind of things, so if you like the idea of this day, post as much as you like. Make it successful and I shall bring it back in coming years

If you’re looking for examples, you could write yourself talking to your favourite character about a certain thing. Maybe about another show/anime. Maybe yourself geeking out with Astral over Esper Robin/The Sparrow. Or just a drawing of yourself with your fav character.

Wednesday:

Different Protag Day. What do you think would have happened if somehow Yuma’s protag status was switched to someone else?

Any minor characters you think would be great as a Yu-Gi-Oh! protagonist. Writing, drawing, gifs, headcanons, etc.

Thursday:

Since it is Tasuku Hatanaka’s birthday today (HAPPY BIRTHDAY TASUKU HATANAKA.), on this lovely Thursday will be a tribute to anything and everything Yuuma.

Possibilities are endless with this one. Yuuma is in everything, shipping, AUs etc. Go for it. Favourite moments, things Yuuma inspired you about, Yuuma videos, fanfics, art and AU’s. Or if you would like to share any in real life Kattobingu life moments. Nows your chance!

Friday:

Wishes that you wanted to happen.

Things that you wish had happened that you would have loved that would have been great in canon.

A challenge is waiting for you all. I challenge you to not think about shipping and ships with this one. As much as the majority of you ship just about anything and the kitchen sink in ZEXAL, what things would be great in canon that doesn’t include shipping. For example, Yuuma’s parents being able to go back home and be with their family again.

Monday 21st - Sunday 27th

Monday:

One True Pairing (OTP) Day.

SPREAD YOUR OTPS ALL OVER THE PLACE. SHOW THE WORLD YOUR LOVE FOR PAIRINGS IN ZEXAL. SPREAD THEIR LEGS. (Stupid joke Wendy, stupid joke. But yet I still laughed at myself.)

Tuesday:

If a ship was canon, how would it go?

Create all of your headcanons, imaginations, feels, into posts for the fandom to see!

Disclaimer: Dub and Sub day are experimental days. If you like them, make them successful.

Wednesday:

ZEXAL DUB DAY (All dubs, English, German, Italian etc.)

For anyone who loves these dubs, feel free to gif or write anything to do with these dubs. I myself have posted some English dub gifs in the past.

Here is also Eli Jay’s twitter if you would like to send him a nice message about the English dub.

A challenge to anyone who doesn’t really like it, to write ONE or more things that they do like about it. Whether it be a certain voice, a few lines or the fact that they kept Yuuma’s full name.

Thursday:

SUB DAY: (Anything subtitled related.)

Today is more like an appreciation for the original ZEXAL subtitled. E.g. Redrawing a scene/cap into your style.

If you did not participate last year, or you don’t really know what to do for today, you can use the information from Week 1 last year and put them all in a post.

Friday:

Palette day’s. Today and Monday.

Use this palette I created to create any artwork that you would like to do. If you want, you can mix any of the days up with this palette, such as, using the sub day to create art of your favourite characters using the palette here. Or mix it up with the next day as well. I hope you guys like the colours I chose too. Also I would like to thank @metalgeartachyon for helping me with good palette colours. Love you miz miz. :)

Send ZEXAL fans that you know and enjoy content from, send them a nice message. Or if you would like to list the content creators that you enjoyed from this month into a post, feel free to do that also. Send them some love. :)
