#I just want more d-16 and Bee content

So, I rewatched the trailer over and over again, I stepped back, organised my thoughts, and I think I get it.

So first the Bad, then the GOOD, because there's actually a lot to like here.

The Bad:

So, the trend of companies kicking actual voice actors onto the curb and replacing them with celebrities continues. I remember being really angry when they first announced the voice cast, and I still am. It's quite literally the most boring, generic casting possible. You can not get much more white bread, milk toast than a Chris and Scar - I want to play an Asian woman and trans man - jo. Also, why is Chris Hemsworth here? Do he really need the money? Did Thor 4 damage his pockets that bad? There are so many talented voice actors that could've been Orion, David Kaye is a prime example Animated Optimus and Beats Wars/Unicron Trilogy Megatron, beloved by fans, if he was announced people would've been over joyed. I love Brian Tyree Henry, and he actually has some experience with va work as he voiced Jeff Morales in Spider-Verse, my original criticism still stands.... And Kegan, oh Kegan, I love you so much, Key and Peele was my childhood, and the Toad performance was perfectly fine, endearing even. But as Bee? I'm sorry, but no, that's not BumbleBee that's just actor/comedian Kegan Michael Key, I can't hear anything else. And it doesn't help that he's handed the worst lines.

Which brings us to the comedy. First impressions are EVERYTHING. And if you fumble that that hurts your film, and the perception of your film. I think that's really the problem here, it's a bad trailer not necessarily bad content. Packing the trailer with jokes for the sake of jokes and having that samey Hollywood liscensed music cringey feel to it. Like the guitar riff that played when the 'This Fall' card came up just made me turn off the video immediately. That's why I recommend watching the trailer without sound. Bee's jokes don't really land for me, I'm sure kids with love it tho, and that's good. But I'm sure all the jokes won't be bad, the final door gag is actually really funny. So I think it was just a bad joke that soured out feel of the tone at the beginning, which is unfortunate because like I said first impressions are everything. Because this is Josh Cooly, of Up, Inside Out, Toy Story 4 fame, I'm sure the film will have an emotional core to it.

A minor thing I don't much care for is having Bee be in the same age range as Orion, in my mind he's always constructed during the war at like the half way mark or near the end, he's the little brother of the group, and now he's old enough to remember Op and Megs before the war. Also he sounds way too old.

Oh, also I don't like Orion's personality.

Good:

Now for the good; I think the animations style is gorgeous. Would have I liked something Spider-Verse/Mutant Mayhem-esk, of course, but what are you gonna do? The stand out here is the environments, a visual feast. This might already be my favourite Cybertron, it's so different yet reminisant of the Cybertron we know. The fact that the surface transformers and shifts and changes is genius, very IDW Phase 2 inspired. And the fact that Cybertron is a techno-organic hybrid world ala Beast Machines is crazy! I love that, and wildlife! I bet that's how we get the cassettes. The character models are great too, you can actually tell what emotion is happening on a person's face. Gone are the days of faces being made up of razor blades and mandibles BECAUSE THEY'RE NOT INSECTS FUCK YOU MICHAEL BAY. THEY'RE PEOPLE! There's the nose, the lips, the eyes, and I can tell where one begins and ends. The eyes are gorgeous and detailed, and the face surface detail has smuges, wear, specs of dirt, metallic texture. Like, you nailed it! It's a person but a robot, you got it!

We see what we assume are the 13 Primes, Alpha Trion being the only survivor, maybe they were killed by the Quintessons and they took over. D-16, a ref to IDW and his toys designation in the toy catalogue, he'll obviously name himself after Megatronus ala TF Prime. He seems to have the Decepticon insignia before meeting The Fallen so maybe Megatronus' face is some sort of religious iconography, the Primes are a religion on Cybertron after all. It's all so fascinating, I can't remember the last time I was so excited to learn more about a new TF continuity.

Orion and D-16 are both miners and or workers, that's a refreshing take, no coptimus here. They've suffered the same way together, I bet story will be about dealing with that pain, what justice means, how far one is willing to take it and where justice stops and injustice begins. I know people are mad that the origins are a little different, but I ask you, different from what? Which continuity are you talking about? TF has never had a consistent singular timeline, and that's what I love about this franchise! It builds on itself with each new continuity! Take a bit of the old, mix it with new ideas and create something fresh, then that old guard leaves and a new team takes over and does the same and the franchise continues to evolve or should I say transform. Like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get, and new incarnations always give second chances to improve apon what came before. No Reboots, no risks means no Skybite, or Nemesis Prime, no Stasis Pods, Sparks, Protoforms, Energon ore, no Star Saber, Hot Shot, Knock Out, Airachnid, no All Spark, no Sari, no Bulkhead, no old grumpy Ratchet, none of that. Reboots are a part of this franchise's DNA. I sense the people that are complaining are the people who only value one continuity and discard all others.

It's really neat this universe's version of The Cast System is lower class worker protoforms being denied a Transformation Cog, it seems like it's reserved for the higher classes, the very thing that makes their species special and unique is denied to them. Also I didn't notice it the first time, but Alpha actually pulls the t-cogs out of the dead Primes which kind of signifies a passing of the guard, the old Primes failed, now it's your turn, and of course history repeats itself with the downfall of Megatron.

I like how Trion is covered and intertwined with moss and vines and has a beast mode, showcasing that he's of an older era now gone and forgotten.

Some other smaller stuff:

The sun looks like a holographic simulation, which makes me wonder, Cybertron doesn't usually have a sun, but there's plant life now, so what's up?

The cave that the dead Primes and Trion are in kinda looks like a Dweller.

Megatron's black helmet is a ref to Marvel G1.

That spin kick where Elita twirls her entire waist around is sooo satisfying. I love it.

At the moment, I am leading in two shows (one is a murder mystery comedy, like clue, where the audience decides who the murderer is! The second is Spamalot, and I am the female lead, Lady of the Lake!!) I am also in the ensemble of Hadestown and doing crew for Little Mermaid! So a ton of theater stuffs going on (would you believe me if I told you I have 6 different theater-based DR's?? teehee)

I do a ton of reading, I love books; it's one of my dreams to have a Hobbit-inspired book room in my future house, complete with a circle door

I have a massive collection of plushies and stuffed animals, all of which I have named and remember perfectly (I love them sm)

I have been shifting(minishifting partially, still shifting though!!!) since I was around 8 I guess? I didn't realize that was what I was doing at the time, and around 2021 I found out about shifting through a classmate (who brought it up at the most random time possible, an ELA class lol)

The first actual DR I ever made was a My Hero Academia reality, and by birds all mighty that script was ROUGH

But I still hold it close to my heart, even though it was so cringy

I took a break from shifting for like 7 months to a year at most, I believed in it, I just felt more content in my CR, but now I am at a point where I want to explore and be fully happy and learn and grow as myself!

So. you have multiple options because Transformers has a truly ridiculous amount of TV series and some really REALLY good comics.

Transformers Skybound (Comics)

I can only really vouch for the ones I've watched/read, but here are my general suggestions for where to look next! There's also a tl;dr at the end in case you looked at this and just went "oh god"

Additional note: mmmmost of these series have their own idea of what pre-war Cybertron (and subsequently, Megatron and Optimus' origins) looked like, so if you're expecting a continuation of the story from TF One uhhhhh apologies u_u

First off: the current ongoing comic series!

If you want more action, more violence, and also so much more sadness, definitely go for this one. It's gutpunch after gutpunch after gutpunch. Since it IS ongoing however, only time will tell what how the storyline/s will turn out ^^" I think it's pretty good so far though!

However, if you're also intending to eventually look for fanmade content, this series has less of a dedicated fanbase, especially when compared to...

It's easy to get into, but it's also relatively short (especially in comparison to the other suggestions) since it's up to... Issue 13 at the moment? That's still a decent chunk to sink your teeth into!

Transformers (2005) // IDW1 (Comics)

The IDW comic run of Transformers :]!! It's REALLY REALLY GOOD. It ran from 2005-2018, so it's also really, really long.

It can be a bit confusing in terms of order, but luckily there are several reading guides - ONE MORE which I would have loved to have known about when I started reading LMAO IDW1 tends to jump from story to story, which can get a bit confusing, but also it does so in such a way that ties plots together in really fun ways.

Some people will tell you that you can start off with the More Than Meets The Eye (MTMTE) series which is... probably true! It's a fan favorite series, and rightfully so. Also, I think the characterisation of Megatron in MTMTE is really interesting!

I tried starting at MTMTE and just went "HEY. This is set after the war though! I want to know about the war and all that stuff!" and so I ended up reading literally Everything else that comes before it. Which is a lot. I smashed through most of the 420+ total issues in under 2 months because I'm insatiable though.

Transformers Prime // TFP (Animated Series)

Another recommendation I saw for testing the waters (taken directly from a reddit post I saw while locating the guides) is to try reading Last Stand of the Wreckers and the sequel, Sins of the Wreckers, or Megatron Origins and Spotlight: Megatron to kind of get a feel for the sort of thing you're getting into.

My personal suggestion would be to follow this reading guide if you decide to read the comics! Mostly because the person who made it included notes, and as evidenced, I love notes. Theirs are thankfully much shorter than mine.

Another fan favorite! It's an animated series that takes things in a more gritty direction, but I think it does it really well! Maybe. I haven't... actually watched it, which is funny because it's technically what got me to finally check out Transformers.

You might have seen me reblogging a certain Pointy Black, Purple and Faceless guy sometimes. He's from this series.

Transformers Animated // TFA (Animated Series)

And lastly...

TFA is a standalone series (as in it has minimal ties to the lore/continuity of other series) which is the main reason why I'm recommending it. The secondary reasons are because it's really fun and it's the series I grew up watching lol. I'm biased!! I like it a lot!! I would probably suggest one of the other options on this list to start off with, but I really like TFA... ;u;

.......... Fanfiction.

This, in my opinion, is The Best Way to get familiarised with characters.* ...I'm serious about that, and only slightly less serious about this being a suggestion of where to look next lol.

*Well, this plus TFWiki, which is genuinely the coolest wiki of all time. There are jokes and silly jabs while still being incredibly informative!! I love it!!!!

Other options that I can't personally vouch for, but have heard good things about:

Anyway, this is ACTUALLY how I got into Transformers. I kept reading TF fanfic and furiously googling characters appearances because I like giant robots, then I fell in love with Soundwave from TFP, and then I caved and read IDW1 as my proper introduction to Transformers lol. I think it's fun to do it that way, but I know it's not for everyone lol.

Earthspark is one of the newer animated series, and apparently it's pretty good! The second season less so (...?), but it seems to have been a pretty good jumping on point for a lot of people.

TL;DR: suggestions, in no particular order:

Cyberverse is another animated series, and it's pretty cute! I watched the first season and some of the second. Apparently it gets better in the later seasons- more plot heavy and interesting ^^!

If you're so inclined there's also always the Original G1 cartoon, which is fun! If you like cartoons from the 80s, just jump in idk. I've watched some, I think it's neat.

There is also the Transformers (2019) or IDW2 comics which was a reboot done by the the same publishers who did the 2005 series (thus IDW1/2) with a different and much more... streamlined story to follow. I haven't read that yet, but I've heard it's good! It got cut short because they lost the licensing though :(

What gave you the initial idea of Fault? What are Fault's origins?

Each character has to spend a day in your body living your life. They just spontaneously get teleported there with no previous explanation. The system guys get teleported along with the other people in their mind. (Tubbo with their group and Blade with Blood god and voices). Void can fuck off I'm not counting it as a system guy. You are meanwhile chilling as a ghost spirit thingie who can watch what's happening and occasionally give hints if you really need to. After the day is over they get teleported back. Assuming that they're in your body means that their powers are left in their bodies too. How well does that go? Or more like how fast do they ruin your life? : D

Who's your favourite child. And by child I mean character from the crew. If you do not have a favourite just say what you personally like about each character/mb what you relate to in them

You spontaneously get teleported into your fic. You can choose the specific moment, I'm just imagining sometime during a stop when they're chilling and nothing major is happening. You get teleported as yourself in this world, so human without powers (supposedly). They do not know that you're their author. And alternative scenario, what happens/ how fast are you gonna be dead if they do know that you made up their story and all of their suffering?

Only 4 questions cause I thought that the 2 and 4 were very loaded already. However I have recently realised that Fault! Wilbur has moved onto the 2nd place of my favourite characters in fault so I wanted to make a list.

Apparently to be my favourite you just need to be a hypocrite in a way that's both harmful to yourself and others! Neato. And also be a charismatic/silly bastard.

1.The very first spark was a picture of someone else’s scp au. Or monster au? I might try to find it, I don’t know what platform it would be on since for years I just went through google search images for content. Anyway there was a bee Tubbo with dripping skin aggressively hugging Tommy who I think was flower themed? Idk. But I had a moment where I was like oh! I can make them spooky monster guys! And proceeded to do that. Why SCP? I’m not even an SCP fan? Well like months before then my partner in crime (who IS actually into SCP stuff) talked me through all the ones he could think of and then I’d try to come up with stupid ways to defeat them. I liked the framework. So I made little character sheets and then a crappy comic that turned out to be chapters 15-16. Couldn’t stop thinking about it but was like well can’t start at the break out, so I decided to start it when Tubbo and Tommy first met.

2.Tubbo would ace it since I’m currently in the agronomics sector and they have experience via gardening and orchard tending. They’d get startled by the 30 mph winds, keep expecting to be blown away before remembering they’re in a meat body now. The Blade would also be chill with it since he finds gardening relaxing. But Philza would have the patience to sit through the 10 hours of committees I’m dealing with this week. God I wish that was an exaggeration. The Blade would EXPLODE though. What do you MEAN it took 3 1/2 hours to make a 15 minute decision??? Honestly I’m going to assume everyone but Philza would ruin my PCUSA advisory delegate duties. Actually no he’d dip too since he’d feel no obligation to bother. Rip me I guess. But other than that and maybe skipping work I don’t think they could mess up my life too bad. I’m pretty isolated from friends and family at the moment and it’s not like I’ll give any of them my passwords to tech or credit cards. Since only Tubbo can drive they’d have to walk quite a ways to even get into town to cause problems. Honestly? I think I’m safe. Ghost me would be begging for sun protection, but I figure only Tubbo, Phil, and The Blade would bother helping me out like that. Other than that…

Wilbur would be extremely disappointed about the lack of food variety. Philza might solve that by killing a squirrel and cooking it. Tommy would get crazy dysphoria which same dude.

3.Right now it’s Tubbo. It changes though. I just really like how much a disaster they are in the current arc and how they slowly change for the better. Phil is also really fun to work with tho, he's so fun to draw.

4.

I think I’d aim for the 75% mark of epoch 2 since I think everything will be chillest then. That (supposedly) is absolutely fantastic for the implication you can’t be sure I don’t already have them. Personally I think I’d be very freaked out because it’s a very dangerous situation and I’m sure they all look horrific irl. But also I’d try to play dumb but friendly, since revealing I know a lot of info about the group is a bad idea. Like hello stalker much? Fast track to getting labelled a threat, which is kinda a death sentence. They might investigate at first since The Blade getting teleported had a lot of fallout. Tommy would be pretty psyched about a new person to talk to. After confirming I’m human, there’s probably immediately a discussion on whether or not to kill the witness. Tubbo and Tommy are obviously pretty opposed, while Wilbur is like whatever that’s a human they’ll stab us in the back and Philza just wants to reduce risk. But The Blade is chill with humans and breaks the vote against killing me. Yippee. After that I’m going to get out of there as fast as possible. Cause either the Foundation gets me or I’m collateral damage to the crew and no thanks! Tubbo would probably lend a few bees to help me get to the nearest town. And the void….I think the void definitely would know I’m the author and be desperate to learn my True Name. Or just kill me to see what happens.

If the entire group instantly knows oh boy. However I instantly hit them with the ‘if you kill me this world die too’. The guys and flies: really???? Me: You don’t know that it won’t!

Philza is definitely down for some torture and honestly Tommy might second that. But I picked a time when things are actually going well, AND can use knowledge of things that are planned to happen to bargain my way into living by being useful. And I would actually know everyone’s mental problems and could distract everyone by pointing out red flags like ‘hey! Tommy’s suicidal y’all should work on that!’ or ‘repressing The Blood God will hurt you in the long run!’ or what have you. Just throw out enough dirty laundry that they’re too busy worrying about the mental health of their friends to focus on me. Rather debatable on how well me pointing out their flaws would lead to character development, but hey it’s worth a shot. I’m hated but my advice is trusted. This will work semi well until the void kills me.

MCYT as D&D Characters 1 - Tubbo

So, there has been a CRIMINAL lack of D&D content surrounding the MCYT community, so I have decided to throw my hat into the ring and go over how I would make various figures in the Minecraft community into D&D playable characters.

A few ground rules for this thing:

This will not be balanced and the builds may not be very good. This isn’t for the minmaxers (not that there's anything wrong with that), this is purely based on either stories these people have participated in or their overall persona on the internet

These characters will go up to level 20, but in no way do you have to play them to the max level to get all the mechanics that make up the character

There will be little to no homebrew in these builds, just for my own ease of use.

I will be using standard array for all of these characters (15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8) when determining the stats for these characters, also for my own ease of use.

Now, with those rules out of the way, let’s get this series kicked off with the person who started my hyperfixation on this concept, Tubbo!

Character Traits to Emulate:

Race, Class, Background, Stats

Race: Satyr (This is the closest thing we get to how Tubbo is depicted, and I think the trickster aspect of the Feywilde fits Tubbo’s character very well.)

Ability Score Increases: +2 Charisma, +1 Dexterity Ram: You can make an unarmed strike with your horns equal to 1d8 + Strength Mod bludgeoning damage. Reveler: Proficiency in Persuasion, Performance and one musical instrument Mirthful Leaps: You can add a d8 to your jump speed whenever you jump, even if it’s from a standing position.

Background: Soldier (While Tubbox is fantastic, this is more aligned with the child soldier aspects of his character, from fighting against Dream at the start of the server to the L’Manberg revolutionary war.) Proficiencies: Athletics, Intimidation, One gaming set (Chess), Land Vehicles

Class: Fighter 10, Bard 8, Artificer 2 (Hopefully the Fighter class is self-explanatory, child soldier and a pretty good fighter. Bard is from Tubbo’s time as president and his attempts to settle issues through diplomatic means before the whole butcher army arc. Artificer should also be self-explanatory, man made nukes so of course he’s gonna be a bit of a tinkerer.

Stats:

Strength: 14

Dexterity: 10 + 1 -> 11 (Racial Benefit)

Constitution: 12

Intelligence: 15

Wisdom: 8

Charisma: 13 + 2 -> 15 (Racial Benefit)

Level 1: Fighter

Fighting Style! One key way to flavor any fighter is through their fighting style, and I’m going to go with Interception. Essentially, if you’re nearby an enemy you can reduce some of the damage they’re dealing if you have a shield or some kind of weapon. I dunno, it just fits with his vibes.

Second Wind. Once per long rest, you can recover some amount of HP. Pretty damn good for a person who’s fighting a lot

Level 2: Fighter

Action Surge. The bee boy can attack more once per long/short rest.

Level 3: Fighter

SUBCLASS TIME BABY! And while there are many options for Fighter, I think that it’s best to stick with the classics

Champion Archetype! There’s no perfect fit, but I think Champion is good because of just how straightforward it is in concept.

Improved Critical! If you roll a natural 19 or 20, it counts as a critical hit!

Level 4: Fighter

Ability. Score. Improvement. You can either bump up one stat by two (or two by one) or take a feat. For this, since we’re still in fighter mode for Tubbo, we’re gonna bump his Str up by 1 and his Int up by one, leaving him with 15 and 16 respectively. He’s stronger, but he’s also smarter.

Level 5: Fighter

Extra Attack. You can take two attacks instead of one as one action.

Level 6: Fighter

ASI. For this, we’re gonna wanna add that to Str again, bumping it up to a 17.

Level 7: Bard

Jumping over to Bard now, you get a bunch of cool things from this class. Your spellcasting ability will be Charisma, so we’ll want to see about bumping that up soon

Bardic Inspiration! You get to inspire your comrades and give them a Bardic Inspiration die. Currently it’s at a d6 and you can do this as many times equal to your Charisma modifier

Level 8: Bard

Jack of All Trades. You can add half your proficiency bonus (Rounded down) to any skill you’re not already proficient in.

Song of Rest. During a short rest, if your allies are spending hit die to recover HP, they can recover extra HP. Currently, it’s a d6 worth of healing. Not amazing, but for someone who just wants to help even that d6 can go a long way

ASI. You already know, add 2 to Cha, bringing it up to a 17

Level 9: Fighter

Back to fighter, you get a cool Subclass feature!

Remarkable Athlete: You add half of your proficiency bonus rounded up to any Str, Dex or Con checks or related skills that you’re not already proficient in.

Level 10: Fighter

Nothing new here, but if you’d want to change your fighting style, you could. I won’t, but you could.

Level 11: Bard

What’s that time again? It’s Subclass time again! This time, we’re going with…

College of Swords! Now while Wilbur’s speech about how to get things done is through violence, I can’t help but feel like that rubbed off on Tubbo. Looking at you, Butcher Army.

You get bonus proficiencies, but as a fighter these are already covered. But you can also use a sword you’re proficient in as a spellcasting focus! Nice!

You can choose between two fighting styles, dueling or two-weapon fighting. I’ll choose dueling, since there’s not a lot of dual-wielding on the DSMP. This gives you a nice +2 to damage rolls if you only have the weapon in your hands.

Blade Flourish. If you use one of your Bardic Inspiration die, you can do some pretty shit! And some pretty cool shit, too. You can add to your AC for a turn, add extra damage or even push someone away from you. Certainly good at that last one, at least.

OH BUT WE’RE NOT DONE FOLKS! Bards get a lot of stuff at third level, who knew? This time you get Expertise. You can get a few more proficiencies, just to be EVEN BETTER AT THINGS, as long as things are skills.

Level 12: Bard

It’s that time again. Ability. Score. Improvement. This time, we’re taking a feat. More specifically, the inspiring leader feat. You can give allies some temp hp equal to your level + your Cha modifier. And let me tell you, Tubbo’s actually super good at giving speeches, it’s really fun.

Level 13: Bard

Font of Inspiration. You regain all your Bardic Inspiration after a short rest now, not just a long rest!

Bardic Inspiration: 1d8

Level 14 Fighter

Indomitable. If you fail a saving throw, you can reroll it! But be warned, you MUST use the new roll. While Tubbo may not be renowned for his PvP skills, he certainly has that indomitable spirit in the DSMP storyline.

Level 15: Bard

Countercharm. If you keep talking, you can create a countercharm that prevents your allies from being charmed so long as they can hear you and you’re awake. Tubbo has not only been able to keep quite a few of his allies close, but he’s also made more friends through his charm.

Extra Attack. You get to attack more? Honestly, not sure how this’d work with your extra attack so maybe they’d cancel out, maybe you’d get to attack three times. Still, it is nice to have.

Level 16: Bard

ASI. Let’s bring up that Intelligence to a 17, you’ll see why soon.

Level 17: Artificer

We won’t be taking many levels in this, just enough to get the cool benefits. 

Magical Tinkering. You can make tiny, nonmagical objects into magical ones with a handful of cool effects

Level 18: Artificer

Infuse Item. You can learn a handful of artificer infusions and put them into objects

While you won’t quite be making nukes at this point, these give you nice buffs to your spells that you might as well call them nukes with the firepower you’re packing.

Level 19: Bard

Last Ability Score Improvement. Take the Tough feat, significantly boosting your HP. Tubbo is very resilient and has gone through quite a lot of pain and suffering, so he’s probably bolstered his ability to take hits as well as his defenses.

Level 20: Fighter

Additional Fighting Style. This could go two ways, but I’m going defensive, giving you a slight buff to your AC. Again reflecting the bolstering of defenses after Doomsday with Snowchester’s walls and the making of nukes, all to keep himself safe.

FOLKS HERE WE ARE (I cannot overstate how wonderful it was to read this page. I did not know who the poem was from, and “Someone loves me very much, even with all my faults” is even sweeter to reread, but it’s just ... his confidence is so different from the tentative consideration of a new philosophy of trust and love we see in KoA. And there is subtextual queerness in the books before this one, some more apparent and some more subtle (and what is obvious to one reader may be subtle or invisible to another, in these books especially), and there is the attendant love triangle a few chapters back, but HERE - here, Pheris acknowledges the real feeling and love in Legarus’s disastrous relationship and tells us directly that his lover was a man, here he seamlessly makes it clear how bi and poly Relius is, and he quietly ties these relationships and realities to his growing understanding of the world. It’s not subtext. And there’s a lot more to come, but this page really hit me, and sort of promised the “more to come” while assuring me that what had come before, more subtly, was there. I used to have heteronormative readings of both these books and myself, and when Thick as Thieves brought them crashing back into my heart after years away, I knew better about myself, and I saw that - or the possibility of that reading -  reflected in the new book, and it was such a good surprise. It meant a lot, and this page meant a lot, and that is why I’m writing a small essay to accompany this note.)

Hello! My name is Professor Alem; though you may simply call me Alem or Professor! My pronouns are they/them. I’m a biologist and author who studies and breeds Xen fauna and their history and relationship with humans. So... what is this blog?

This is a Half-Life based askblog that takes place 200 years after the ending of Half-Life 2, and follows my headcanons of Xen biology! It’s is designed so you can send in questions, which will be answered ‘in character’ by Alem, a vortigaunt scientist. It’s also to keep track of any headcrab characters people might have made/adopted.

If you’re familiar with Professor Peach, it’s something sort of like that. Basically, you’re allowed to send in questions that are responded to by Professor Alem, a vortiguant biologist, as if you were a character in the setting. You’re also welcome to send in ‘ooc’ questions as well though!

I also just reblog a bunch of art and posts revolving around xen biology, as well as some memes and such.

This blog is intended to be 16+ because it might contain some upsetting or potentially NSFW content, but all in a biological format (discussions of animal abuse, art of meat/dissections, discussion of breeding behavior and anatomy, etc). Everything will be tagged generously. There won’t be any condoning of mentioned behavior, and no explicit porn or heavily NSFW images.

What exactly is the setting here?

As I mentioned, this blog takes place 200 years after the events of Half-life 2. It sort of... diverges a bit from canon there, since we never got a full conclusion to the story, but this world is working under the assumption that the resistance managed to drive off the Combine from earth, and humanity started to rebuild... but now has alien neighbors and creatures.

Vortigaunts are seen as normal residents and have just as many rights as humans, and it’s not uncommon for them to mingle together as complete equals. Though vortigaunts didn’t used to have names, they must at least legally choose a name to put on paperwork; and many vorts choose to use it for the ease of humans around them, since they’re not tapped into the vortessence.

A lot of animals are extinct in this universe due to the Combine, which is part of why aliens as pets and livestock is much more common. There’s also several new and synthetic species created in the absence of some, which were made by humanity thanks to leftover Combine knowledge.

Technology is roughly in the modern-day level, though some knowledge is more advanced than today’s thanks to leftover Combine tech, and some knowledge is less advanced or lost completely thanks to the destruction of information databases by the Combine. But roughly 2020′s level tech!

Where’s Gordon/Barney/Alyx/etc?

Unfortunately, despite the tech advances, immortality hasn’t been invented yet, and most people can’t live for 200+ years. They’re long passed by now... though the vortigaunts never truly let them be forgotten. Thanks to the vortessent hivemind, Alem knows them just as well as any other vortigaunt knew them. You’re welcome to ask them questions, though they may not be comfortable answering. I have lots of headcanons on them as well, which I might sprinkle in, lol.

Prime Megatron vs. IDW1 Megatron analysis that no one asked for

This is really slapdash and was done in like an hour and a half this morning so there’s probably some incorrectness about timeline stuff (especially with IDW1 Megs), but this is pretty much all opinion. This is also really long, so I put it under a read more.

There’s some things to think about regarding Prime Megs vs other Megses with similar backstory (thinking primarily IDW1 [and this is all my interpretation based on what we get in MTMTE] Megs).

In Exodus, it’s implied early on that while Megs does want to reform the government of Cybertron he wants to do it with him at the top as “Prime.” My impression of this is that he has a thought process of “the government sucks, I could do it better, and I deserve to be the one in charge of doing it.”

Here’s Megatron’s speech to the Council in Chapter Thirteen of Exodus, without the narration unless it’s crucial for context:

“In the beginning I had not name. None of us did. We spoke to each other, down in the mines and the smelters, by electronic signature. We indicated each other by function. We assigned each other nicknames. I was D-16, named for the sector of mine where I conducted demolition operations. And then I saw my first match in the gladiator pits. That is where I first learned how life was for the lower castes that none of you ever take a nanoclick to consider. Each Cybertronian in that balcony has seen more Cybertronians die himself than the total of you in the rest of the gallery. Our lives are worthless!

Until--Until we decided we had worth. We, the lower castes. We, the bots who die in subsurface mills and factories creating all of the things that you up here take for granted. We learned that we were individuals by facing off against each other in the gladiator pits in Slaughter City and Kaon, and how did we know we were individuals?” He waited for a moment to let the question sink in. “We knew we were individuals because as we killed our opponents in the ring, we saw in their deaths the realization that they were individuals. And so we knew we were, too. In killing, we understood life. In being the most disposable of commodities--a gladiator, whose remains are thrown into the junkpile to be picked over and scavenged, the healthy pieces sold off to brokers in Iacon and Crystal City--in being disposable, we discovered that we had value. Someone would pay us for what we did. Someone would cheer when we killed, and roar in anger when we died.

So if our lives had worth--even to others just as worthless as we were--then we had the right to names. And that is how the sequence of events started that led to me being here before you today. My friend Orion Pax, I thank you for helping our cause gain this platform; and to the High Council, I express my thanks for your time and attention.”

This is your usual fare for miner-cum-gladiator-cum-revolutionary-cum-tyrant Megatron. The Council goes on to ask him about the bombings at Six Lasers (among others), and he says that he had nothing to do with it and that he “disavow[s] any act that does not ultimately herald a new and better era on Cybertron.” The Council then asks, “Are you not responsible if your rhetoric excites those unfortunates without your willpower, though? Do you not have the same kind of responsiblity that this Council and its members have, if your leadership position is to be taken seriously?”

Megatron does not directly answer the question. Instead he says, “What you have to worry about is what will happen if my leadership is not taken seriously.” I kind of see this response as a thinly veiled threat to the Council.

Now, this chapter is ultimately from Orion Pax’s point of view, so we get his views on things: “Orion Pax couldn’t decide whether to admire him or be scandalized that he could stand up in front of the High Council and ignore the truth.” Orion believes that Megatron is ultimately responsible for these bombings because of his rhetoric.

The plot moves on with Halogen, the main dude on the Council, calling for the Guilds to speak . Orion then gets up to speak, first insulting the Guild representative and subtly blaming the Guilds for loosing contact with the colony worlds. It is Orion who calls for the Council to choose a new prime: “Choose well, for a Prime might either lead Cybertron to a new golden era in history, or stand by as the dark energies of anger and resentment explode into planetwide chaose and war.”

We then move into chapter fourteen.

Halogen then goes on to say that these two have a point the caste system has already begun to be upended. Most of this is just plot and talking about Sentinel Prime and how he’s missing.

Orion has an epiphany: “We cannot count on anything. No existing structure can handle the problems we have raised.” And he realizes that Megatron has realized it as well, but has had a different reaction:

“Megatron looked as if he could gleefully have presided over the permanent and total destruction of every institution of Cybertronian civilization. Orion Pax wanted to be free. But if there were no Cybertron, if there were no Iacon or Hydrax or Sonic Canyons...then what good would freedom do?”

The Council goes on and on about the Matrix of Leadership, culminating with Halogen saying that it has bee lost for billions of cycles and according to Alpha Trion it might be found “in these turbulent times.” Megatron says, very softly, “yes” at this point. He thinks that Halogen is talking about him; he thinks that the council is going to choose him to be the next Prime.

And Megatron starts projecting, in my opinion. He’s angry, which he is allowed to be seeing as things didn’t go his way and anger is a natural reaction to that, he feels betrayed, though he hasn’t actually been betrayed. He accuses Orion of just wanting power. He begins to mock him: “Does Cybertron not call out in its hour of need and find...a data clerk?”

Its at this point that we get back to my earlier point of Megatron thinking that he should be in charge. He reminds Orion that he didn’t know the plights of the lower castes until he met Megatron. He learned from Megatron. I believe at this point that Megatron is having a moment of “Why should the student surpass the master? Why should this more privileged ‘bot be the Prime when I have lived this injustice first hand?” These are fair questions, and I do think that a good portion of why the Council chose Orion as the next Prime has to do with him simply being less confrontational in his speech.

To me, it seems that Prime Megatron wanted the power to change Cybertron himself, and when he was denied it, he resorted to violence. While he was a miner at the start, he is primarily a gladiator. He says it himself that he didn’t truly learn what life was like for the lower castes until he first saw, and began participating in, gladiatorial matches. He knows violent solutions to violent problems first and foremost. He also spends a lot of time in later chapters thinking about “when i’m prime…” and while some of that might be to blame on Dark Energon, I think it’s also a lot of his own thoughts. He first aspired to be the leader of the gladiators, which he became. What’s to stop him aspiring to be Prime?

Now, IDW1 Megatron is an entirely different beast (at least re: early early on ala “Births, Deaths, and Interventions” and Elegant Chaos). I’m not as familiar with him between the events of BD&I and basically the rest of anything. I don’t know how exactly he gets from miner to tyrant.

What I do know is that at the beginning, he does not want to be in charge. Terminus tells him that he has two weapons, his brain and his fists, and he must be prepared to use both of them. Megatron rejects being a figurehead. His job “is to articulate the injustice at the heart of the system in the hope that others might be inspired as one, to push against it.” Terminus is almost pushing him to be this figurehead that he doesn’t want to be.

M: “I’m not a figurehead.”

T: “But you may yet become one—and that’s why you need to listen to me. Never back down. Never compromise. Never bend. The moment you try to accommodate a rival set of interests, you subordinate your own. When your enemies realize they can’t corrupt you, or contain you, or appease you…that’s when you’ll have their attention—because that’s when you become a genuine threat.”

M: “You’re focusing too much on the individual. Lasting power rests with the collective.”

T: “Of course—but the masses need someone to rally behind. Someone to take point. And even after that, even after you’ve forced the world to be fair…the top table is set for one. You must be prepared to sit alone.”

Now. I have opinions about Terminus that aren’t…positive. But here he’s pushing—he’s pushing for Megatron to take control, to lead almost singularly; he’s pushing against what Megatron wants. I think it’s important to realize that at some point you might have to resort to violence of some sort, but I think it’s also important to encourage peacefulness until you get to the point where it is literally impossible to do otherwise.

In Elegant Chaos part 1, present day Megs has a conversation with Orion Pax (we love time travel shenanigans) and he asks, “Why rely on someone else coming along and doing your job for you—someone who may not actually want the job?” This question implies that at some point before the war properly started, he still didn’t want to be the one in charge. I believe that he was somewhat content writing and inspiring people to change the system.  As evidenced in Elegant Chaos pt. 2 when Megatron is talking with Impactor: “Because the revolution will be about ideas. Taking a new step, uttering a new word…That’s what the ruling elite fears the most. Violence solves nothing.” Also, if I remember correctly he hides under the table during the fight in the bar.

sung vs in-verse groups & soloists

tldr; his Current ranking of the in-verse groups and soloists, and chats about his feelings on the groups

based largely on music, and ignoring person connections, from most favorite, to least most favorite, this is sung’s ranking:

1. wish i’m sure this is no surprise to anyone. besides element, wish is probably the group sung has mentioned most in his replies. he’s a fan of every soloist and group in the roleplay, but no one can touch wish. he loves their concept and blasts their music day in and day out

2. gold star soloist 1 (byul) this is also a no brainer spot. she was the first idol sung stanned when he became a trainee, and he fell in love with her music from the get go. when talking musical inspiration, gs soloist 1 is the blueprint for 2020 songwriter sung

3. lipstick an iconic group, sung holds lipstick high above the rest. despite talking about a group like knight more, because he’s a stupid gay, sung generally prefers female idols. they’re also another group sung feels like he’s grown up with

4. bee iconic, in a different light. sung’s trainee private twitter would have been filled with bee content, because they really lit stars in his eyes at the time. catch him coming back to his roots pretty soon

5. knight sung dumb gay. that’s it. he would risk it all for ash, or really most of the group

6. decipher this was the second idol that sung stanned, after immediately falling in love with gs soloist 1. he’s a really sentimental bastard, and though he has his issues with eunjae, even if personal relationships factored in more here, decipher would still rank this high

7. aria this group, weirdly enough, sung didn’t have an immediate die hard connection for. the biggest connection he has to aria, is that he Loves their music. he completely believes they’re a No Skip group

8. fuse would d*e for their bright concepts, and thinks their mature concepts are cool, but scary. their bright concepts are Blasted in the element dorm

9. charm if personal relationships factored in, charm would probably be higher, but as they’re not, this is where they stand. like the general public, sung connects better with their older releases than their newer ones, but as he’s been there with charm since debut, he’s die hard

10. dimensions soloist 3 sung was likely a fan of sapphire, and is always a supporter of love, so i Hc that he followed this soloist’s move to dimensions, and was rooting hard for her. she’s new, so she doesn’t get his entire stan self, but he’s really excited about where she might go, especially since her vocals are top tier, and sung is a weakling for good vocals

11. silhouette their more sultry side doesn’t hit As hard with him, but the group has several songs that have implanted into sung’s brain so deeply they’ll never come out

12. dimensions soloist 1 (dahyun) sung’s opinion on this soloist is that she’s cool. that’s the main thing, here. he’s not as deeply attached as earlier groups and soloists, but he finds her admirable in her ability as an idol, especially in stage presence

13. bc soloist 1 (chanmi) this one,,, only ranks so low because sung hasn’t had enough time with her. by the time stay tonight comes out, she’s going to be his second favorite soloist. it’s a slower climb with her, but he’s hopped on and ready to go for the ride

14. gold star soloist 3 (mav) as much as sung loves mav as a person, mav presents as male and has a ‘male voice’ which means he’s just Gotta go under a good chunk of soloists. HOWEVER he’s not the lowest, because sung truly does enjoy his music, and it’s very much his Style

15. dimensions soloist 2 in a twist of fate, sung actually didn’t watch k-pop star 3, so he didn’t have any prior connection to this soloist. like gs soloist 3, though, sung likes the music he’s released so far

16. unity another group that would be much higher if personal relationships factored in, unity rank down in the lower half because of the diversity in their discography. unlike a group like decipher, who has time and its loyalty on their side, sung doesn’t feel as connected to Every cb

17. gold star soloist 2 (lyna) i wish there was more of a reason for this ranking. it’s just a Feeling. he enjoys the music, and thinks she has an amazing voice, top tier, god tier, and yet, he’s not yet managed to connect with her as an artist more strongly than groups/soloists above her

18. 7rophy another concept struggle for sung, there are some songs/cbs that sung Lives for, but others he didn’t feel super close to

19. lucid again like the general public, sung much prefers the normal realm concepts to the nightmare concepts. he’s a romantic guy, and the romance genre is his place to be, but he’s also a scaredy cat who is frightened by the nightmare side, and he doesn’t connect as well with that music either

20. element while sung Likes element’s music, the only reason he Loves it, is because it’s his and the people closest to him’s music. based on them as a group, they would only rank higher because they’re a co-ed group, and sung thinks that’s cool

21. gal.actic they rank here because sung feels the connection to them that makes him want to fight for them, to be treated well and kindly, but at the same time, he never managed to connect with them musically. he likes them best as people

22. impulse the shadow of the ‘too many concepts’ thing sung has had issues with in other groups, impulse has yet to grasp sung by the shoulders as strongly as other groups/soloists

23. mars while sung really appreciates the group for their talents, more than many other groups/soloists above them, he’s not as attached to them, considering he, again, is a scaredy cat who can’t sit through their biggest hits without hiding under the covers

Firstly thank you! Most of the clothing in AxA is 99% ayoshi with me going in after and cleaning/adding some stuff. So I give him props for the clothes :P As far as a ‘new PTS’ style group idk, there are a lot of amazing creators on simblr but I think the reason PTS was such a special thing is because the bond they all had. I feel that when working on collabs with some of my really close friends (such as the one coming out this month with @dogsill​ and @ayoshi​) because we have known each other for over 2 years now. A group of friends built only for collabing purposes would be more of a hassle than an enjoyment imo. <3

CYBERVERSE WATCH: Season 3, Episodes 15, 16, 17, and 18!
