WAHHHHH THANKSSSS hehe hmm I’ve never formally given art advice before (i also haven’t taken a single class so this might not be that helpful) but I’ll try 👍👍👍

Personally I always used to have trouble during SKETCHING yeah that’s right the step everyone says is “fun” I’d always get annoyed with trying to perfectly convey the image idea I wanted while constantly fixing and starting over and cleaning up and by the time I finished the sketch I’d be way too exhausted from how many discarded ideas and redoing I did AND the lines would be mildly confusing to me 🥸🥸🥸guidelines always kinda felt stiff and slow to me so that didn’t work either

Then I started getting LAZY n stuff😏😏😏😏basically you use a big brush and roughly draw the shape idea you have and then you get an eraser and either sculpt the shape to align with your idea or you’d outline some parts so you get the idea of the figure

Sneak peek of a drawing as an example heehee uh I also add a 10% black layer over everything on the sketch then erase where I think the light will be (good guideline for later n it makes the sketch look COOL) also when I’m doin big pieces it’s easier to fix how it looks bc I’m not as distracted by sketch line details n forget to look at the entire image as a whole😋

ALSO don’t b afraid 2 use filters lots of people use them it’s not like its a program creating an image using tons of stolen art without consent🥸🥸🥸🥸it’s just some color correcting n so on like an orange “overlay” to make everything look sunnier or a blue “hue” layer to make everything slightly closer to a color but not too much so it looks distinct

Even though the colors r nice it also ends up muffling / changing the brightness n darkness of some colors that you don’t want in your final piece (I normally end up using “multiply” layers to darken some spots along with “Hard Light” layers to change the hue and some “add” layers if I feel like i want cool glowing stuff) you can also set an all black layer to Saturation and play with it’s opacity to get a less saturated product

Anyway lastly uhh stare at similar artworks depicting the thing you’re trying to do like ummmmm if u wanted to shade water for a beach you can look at artworks n take a mental note on how it manages to look like water (there’s lots of different styles n if you can go browse until u find one that could work with yours)😋😋😋😋

I'll be honest, when I saw your request I fangirled and silently scream out of excitement, Moffy!

I really hope you like this, and thank you for coming to my little blog and giving me an excuse to draw Jon again hahaha

This was the perfect combo for me. Edgar Allan Poe is one of my favorite and I loved his works (And I never outgrew my Poe phase XD). I also love Jon as well, so I just couldn't bear my excitement to draw him (and the fact you kindly honored me by appearing on my ask box and requesting this sketch!)

I wasn't sure which Poem to use, but to keep with Jon's theme, I chose Poe's most iconic Poem and the one that kept haunting and me throughout my school years like it haunted the narrator: "The Raven"

(I kid you not, whenever we read Poe it was always the freaking "Raven" and "The Tell Tale Heart" my teen self was all like "How come the others get to read Cast of Amontillado, and we keep reading the freaking Raven?!" it was not until my Senior year in HS my teacher went "Nah, we're reading the "Legend of Sleepy Hollow" by Irving Washington." and thus the Raven finally left my life XD)

I also added Craw and Nightmare because reading Poe must include his beloved Raven and Crow. I like to Think Nightmare is the one looking at the Book.

I think you had a headcannon about Jon and his birds accompanying him into reading, or maybe I misread it, either way it shows it was on my head.

Headcanon that most demon royalty goes to some fancy private/finishing school. But that Stolas was homeschooled with a private tutor. It was one of the very very few requests his dad granted him and for years it was a tressure memory, one of the few times he /got to choose/ one of the few times his dad /listened/ to him. Only to realize when he enters society that it was another isolation tactic. That everybody had already spent years forming social alliances and building their reputations and social credit. And that there was no room for him to break into those circles, that he /did not know/ the proper unspoken social rules. That his wife has spent years building her clout and that he is once again. Alone.

leon catches someone taking his picture. it's a creepshot for sure, but with his line of work.... he can't be too careful now.

immediately he can tell his young woman knows she's been caught, and immediately he tries to get a feel for the situation.

she's embarrassed. she's looking away. and leon's.... not so sure about it. so, he makes his way over nonchalantly.

this woman is sat by the exit of this truckstop restaurant, by the trashcans and such. leon tries to avoid bluntly intimidating her by steering clear and throwing his stuff away. only to gently throw a comment her way, one that's meant to be playful and now blunt, but quiet to avoid drawing attention to her.

if this woman is just being creepy, he doesn't exactly want to embarrass her. she looks fresh into college and, while an adult shouldn't be acting like this.... maybe he wants to give her the benefit of the doubt, yknow?

he comments, something along the lines of, "not who you think i am, but i'm flattered. coulda just asked next time." a way to ease any tension with a joke.

and quickly, she's apologetic. "it was for a friend, i'm sorry," etc etc.

leon kinda feels bad. for the most part, he was worried less about some random girl taking creepshots and more of espionage and assassination attempts. if she's just some weirdo, then he can try to be nice at least? make the world a better place by confronting a creep and hopefully changing their ways lol.

in the best way he can, he just puts it light and asks her to not do that again. steer her on the right path.

but aha! that is the trick! while she wasn't interested in him (or maybe she plans to NOT delete that image after sending it to the sketch number she was given ahah), she was interested in the money she was paid to take photos and then lie to him if she was caught. hell, she IS a broke college student. what's wrong with sacrificing her dignity for a couple hundred bucks?

classic, "use an innocent looking young woman/kid to keep the target's guard down as a red herring!"

he might be a little weirded out on his way out, but he's more distracted by social anxiety to notice the ambush.

bonus points if this woman somehow becomes actually involved when, whoops, her desperation led her to witness this man's kidnapping and... oh god she just wants to eat something better than ramen, dude. fuck, man. shit. oh no. oh god.
