Dainsleif knows it's you almost immediately, from the unusual, swirling markings on your colorful skin to the way your Abyssal companion growled at him so fiercely, protecting you from further harm the first thought on his mind. Dainsleif takes a step back, holding up his hands to show that he means no harm before he sinks to his knees into a deep, sincere bow. Foul Legacy's wings twitch as he glances at you, his gaze guarded when you take a few tiny steps towards Dainsleif, and slowly bow in return to him. the disgraced knight blinks, and a silent smile spreads across his face as your little tail begins to wag. Legacy's cautious demeanor gradually softens, and he walks over to rejoin your side, kneeling to your height and gently nudging your cheek with a curious trill. Dainsleif can't understand a word he says, but you simply nod and look up at him, kindly asking for his name

the knight doesn't join you in Merusea, not permanently, but he drops by every once in a while, still slightly in awe at the sight of the Creator living a simple life as a Melusine. your siblings adore him almost as much as they adore Foul Legacy, fawning over his starry cape and otherworldly air. it actually gives Legacy a bit of reprieve from their constant attention, a chance to quietly curl himself around you as he watches you and Mamere paint away... of course, they all return when Dainsleif comes to your little shell house to say hello, many Melusine trailing after him and darting over to Foul Legacy so they can clamber onto his shoulders and hold onto his horns

Legacy huffs, and you can't help but laugh, the sound so wonderful and reassuring to him and Dainsleif after all you've been through

the idea of sburb happening Aleph Null and then it goes up the chain of command to be like: "Um so... one of our inner empire planet colonies has just been destroyed in a matter of hours and we have no explanation as to why"

the charm of the first two class of 09 games were the balance of satire and realism (which are enhanced by the voice acting) that redeem the 'anti-visual novel' intention too well. class of 09 was fun because we get moments that feel real. there's nicole's arguements with her mom and the conversations between any of the teenagers are time-period accurate despite the cartoonishness

the comedy works because the dialogue flows well. the dark humor and shock value are carefully executed. the edginess works because of the writing knowing its limits

it knows when to be funny (mr lorre meeting up with nicole) and when to take itself seriously (nicole talking about her experience as a myspace escort)

i really think that nicole being a bad person without bigotry (most of the time) is what makes its comedy work.

flipside fails miserably and feels like a disconnection from the other two games. when jecka suffers it's just for the sake of suffering. it isnt like in the other two games where nicole suffers as consequence. honestly, flipside just looks like what class of 09 would be without the proper care it was given. it focused too much on trying to be edgy and funny that it doesnt execute the realism. nicole's mom was written in a way that feels real. her multiple divorces are comedically cartoonish but when she's on screen and voice acted she actually behaves like a real life mother. jecka's dad has none of that. he just says things and yells when he wants to.

the NPC names and boss titles in hollow knight display in a way that strongly implies they are being written from the knight's perspective -- NPC titles only appear once the NPC tells you their name; boss titles are usually loose descriptors or obvious titles unless you already know them; dream boss titles change in ways reflective of what the player (and by extension the knight) has learned about them; title changes seem to be very rooted in the knight's perspective ('broken vessel' -> 'lost kin' yeah but also shit like 'millibelle' -> 'millibelle the thief') -- and hornet never introduces herself by name.

Man now I'm thinking back to this twitter post i saw once that was kinda like "weird how O'saa and Olivia are the playable characters with the least amount of fanart, surely not because one is black and the other is disabled"

Specifically about Olivia, since this post is about her, yeah i can see it :(

I've seen people resume her entire character to just "flower girl" or "wheelchair girl" a few times before and like,,

Olivia is SO FUNNY she can make blunts for the hell of it, she's gonna get neuron activation when holding a gun, be horny in the middle of the moon death festival, she is one of the kindest people in the whole cast, she has connections to one of the more important characters in the main story of termina and is genuinely very well written

I can't help but think that if she was physically abled like the others she would be a much more popular character than she is currently and that makes me really sad and disappointed honestly
