prompt: after getting caught in the rain and chased by death eater, you stumble upon a house and look for a safe haven inside. little did you know who would be waiting for you in that house.

The engine of your car roared as rain slapped against the windshield, your chest heaving with fear, constantly checking your rear view mirror, pressing down on the gas as hard as you could. You whispered tiny prayers, hoping that you were going fast enough to outrun whoever was chasing you. Looking at the speedometer, you see that it slowly climbs to 85 miles an hour, then 90, then 95 as you search the dirt roads ahead of you for a clearing or any sign of life. “Please, please, please, please,” you whisper to yourself as you continue to speed through the English countryside, thunder rumbling behind you as the speedometer climbs and climbs. 

With each flash of lightning you jump a little in your own skin, mistaking it for the flash from someone’s wand, casting a hex on you. But you remind yourself that you must be miles and miles away from them and that you were safe. For now at least.

You continue to scan your surroundings, not recognizing where you were, the rain blurring your view outside. Regardless, you continue to drive, straight down the road, until you reached some place that looked like it had life. 

But your car had other plans. As you slammed your foot on the gas, there was a screeching sounds, and then a rumbling boom, before smoke started to appear from the front of the car. “Oh, come on! Not now!” you yell out in frustration, pushing your foot on the gas harder, hoping that the action would keep the car going. But much to your dismay, the car came to a simmering halt as you threw your head back with a groan. With the little life it had left, you pulled the car to the side of the road and put it in park, even though that would change a thing. The car was dead.

You ran your fingers through your hair, trying to think of something. You were stranded in the middle of nowhere, with just your wand, a small bag of your belongings, and dead car with half a tank of petrol. “Fuck,” you curse slamming your hands down on the wheel. 

Through the rain, you try to scan your surroundings again. The nearest town was still some ways away and you had no way of contacting anyone. Your best bet was to wait out here in the car until morning when the rain would hopefully stop and you could walk to the nearest town and get some help. “Bloody brilliant,” you huff, zipping up your jumper, folding your arms. 

As you lean in the driver’s seat, you try not to focus on the events that had precipitated previously; the thought was far too terrifying for you. Instead, you focused on the raindrops that streamed down your car window, as you pit one raindrop against another, making them race down the glass. 

But as you watch the raindrops fall, through the rain, in the distance, you can almost make out a small building. A house. Through the brush and the trees was a small home, the windows illuminated meaning there was a sign of life. “Thank Merlin,” you whisper to yourself as you unbuckle your seatbelt. 

You flip up your hood, trying to protect yourself from the rain, but to no avail. When you step outside of the car door, you are saturated in an instant, the cold and unforgiving rain soaking your jeans and jumper, dampening your hair through your hood. “Shit,” you huff as you start to take up a light jog, hoping and praying that the company in the small house was welcoming.

“I need another bucket!” Ron calls out as he stands under another leak in the Burrow, holding a small mug up to catch the dripping water. Ginny runs to the kitchen and grabs another bucket under the sink before handing it off to Ron. He places it on the floor before scurrying off the previous leaks that seem to appear throughout the Burrow. “Gin, can you take care of the leak on the second floor?” Ron calls out to which Ginny replies an On it! before scurrying up the stairs.

Molly Weasley is scrambling throughout the house before plucking her band from her dressing robe, “Reparo!” she casts as the roof seems to mend itself. She casts it a few more times around the house with a frustrated sigh each time. “That should hold us over for a while now. But keep the buckets there in case the leak starts again,” she tells Ron with a kiss on the forehead. 

“The attic seems to be fine!” George calls from the top of the stairs. “No water damage and no leaks inside. Can’t speak for the rest of the place,” he shrugs as he descends the stairs, Fred following not too far behind. 

Molly sighs, “Well, that’s the best we can ask for right now. One of you go help your father in the shed. He says there’s a tarp in there that we can lay out in case the storm gets worse.” With a curt nod, Percy starts outside to help Arthur out in the shed. The rest of the Weasleys flop on the couch with a huff. 

Storms like this always brought more bad than good. It did wonders for Molly’s garden, but as for the infrastructure of their house not so much. The Burrow was old and needed some renovations, but money was tight. Instead, simple fixes here and there did the trick during stormy weather. 

Ginny helps her mother light more candles around the house before heading over to the fireplace to get a fire going to warm the house. Ron shivers a little before running up to his room to grab a jumper to keep him warm. Fred looks over at George, mischief in his eyes and a smirk on his lips. George looks at his brother before picking up on his wave length. A stormy day always made for the most interesting quidditch matches. 

The twins rise from the couch, grabbing their coats before Molly interrupts, “And where do you two think you’re off to?”

Fred, without looking at his mother, speaks, “The weather is perfect for a quidditch match. Great practice. Reckon you’ll join, Gin?” Fred asks the youngest Weasley as she looks at him with excited eyes.

“None of you lot with be playing quidditch in this weather!” Molly exclaims with a firm tone and folded arms. Ginny looks at her mother with pleading eyes to which she brushes off. “The weather is wicked outside!”

George laughs, “Yeah, wicked for playing quidditch.” Fred joins in on the laughter, offering his twin a high five with his accepts.

“If you two disobey me, you’ll be in a wicked amount of trouble. Now put your coats down and help me start the fire. Fred, go fetch the old newspaper. George, get the wood from upstairs. We need to warm this place up before we all freeze to death,” she huffs as George and Fred reluctantly take off their coats with a groan. Yet they still obey their mother. 

George looks over to his twin, “You shouldn’t have told her we were playing quidditch. You should have made up something.”

Fred scoffs, “And said what? We’re replanting the peonies?” George rolls his eyes. “That’s what I thought. Now go get the fire wood like you’re told,” he teases his twin, earning him a slap upside the head. “Wanker.”

George disappears upstairs as Fred goes into the kitchen and grabs the old newspapers from the dining room table. Page by page he rips them into small pieces, crumpling them up, creating a fire starter. 

Suddenly, a great rumble of thunder comes from outside, startling the house Weasley family. They all quickly laugh it off with a shake of their heads. The storms were brutal in the summer months. But there it was again, another sound. But not quite thunder.

“Was that thunder?” Ron asks, crouched down by the fire place, helping George throw in the logs. 

Fred shakes his head. “No,” he listens closely again before it sounds again. Four bangs on the front door. Fred looks to his brothers and sister and speaks, “I thought Harry and Hermione were coming next week?”

“They are,” Ron answers with a puzzled look on his face.

Again, four more bangs on the front door, but now followed by a, “Is anyone home?”

Everyone’s eyes are wide with confusion. They expected no visitors, especially during a storm. But this only peaked their interest as to who was at the Burrow’s door at this time of night during a summer storm. Without much hesitation, Fred walks to the front door and swings it open.

In front, there you were. Body and clothes completely soaked with rain, shivering from the cold, lips purple and teeth chattering as you clung onto your thing jumper. Your hair was matted down with rain as droplets cascaded down your face as you looked at the tall, ginger haired boy in front of you. If you weren’t freezing your ass off, you would have stared at the handsome boy longer. But too consumed with the cold, you speak, “I need h-help.” Your words are shaky from your clattering teeth.

Fred looks at you, completely enthralled with the being in front of him. How could someone look so divine when drenched in rain water? Your lips were pressed together and shivered in your lavender jumper that matched the color of your lips. Small droplets of water fell from your hair and onto your feet as you sniffled. The sight was oddly charming. He snapped out of his thoughts and called out, “Mum!! We’ve got company!!” With a small smile, he opened the door further and welcomed you into the house as you sighed. “Come on then.”

You let out a breathy “thank you” as you entered the house, which wasn’t much warmer than outside, but it was better than being in the freezing rain. You stand in the middle of the house, a shivering, wet mess as you feel all eyes on you. Fred instructs Ron to get the fire started as he looks over to you, “How long have you been in the rain?”

“Uh, not long. I was in my car and then it broke down and I saw your house, so I ran over. Maybe ten minutes,” you shrug as the house slowly descends into madness, trying to help you out.

“Ten minutes too long,” Fred huffs with a smile before looking over at his mother. “She’s been walking in the rain. She needs to get warm,” Fred tells Molly whose face is painted with worry even though she didn’t know who you were. 

Molly rushes over to you and places her hands on your shoulders. “Oh, my dear! You’re frigid! Fred, start a kettle of tea! George, grab the quits from your room! Ron, is that fire ready?” she starts tossing orders out as her children comply, darting in all different directions. Molly guides you towards the living room where the fire was, placing you directly in front. “You poor thing. Where are you coming from?” she asks, rubbing your arms. “Here, give me that saturated jumper. Ginny, go fetch one of your jumpers to give...what’s your name, dear?”

You smile at the sweet woman and speak, “(Y/N).”

Molly smiles, “(Y/N). Go fetch (Y/N) a jumper.” Ginny darts off to her room as you sit in front of the fire, the heat already radiating making you feel much better. “My name is Molly, dear. That’s Ginny who ran off, this is Ron, and in the kitchen are Fred and George. My husband, Arthur, and other son, Percy, are in the shed, but they should be in in any minute.”

You furrow your brows as you look at Molly and then around at your surroundings at the people around you. Red hair. Small house. Molly. Arthur. Many siblings. They must be the-

“(Y/N)?” a voice calls from the other room in the door frame.

You look over and there Percy stands, a familiar face with matted curly red hair, wet from the rain. “Percy! Hi!” you smile as Percy walks over to you with a small smile before giving you a light hug. 

He laughs, “What are you doing here? I thought you were supposed to be with Alyssa for the weekend?” 

From behind you a voice speaks, “Wait, I’m confused. How do you two know each other?” Ron looks between you and Percy confused as to how you recognized each other.

Percy speaks for you, “(Y/N)’s family works in the ministry. (Y/N) works as one of the assistants. Her father has high rankings with the ministry.” You smile up at Percy. It was true. Your family was heavily involved with the ministry, specifically with the regulation and control of magical creatures. That’s why you never really ended up going to school. You were guaranteed a job when you were born. Sometimes being at the ministry 24/7 was boring, but when you met Percy, it was a change of pace. Someone close in age to you and a new face to talk to. The two of you became fast friends. “We’ve been co-workers for sometime now.”

You look up at Percy and sigh, “I was with Alyssa. But, um,” you gulp, heart racing at the memory. “Something happened.” Percy gives you an inquisitive look as you look around you, now all of the Weasley’s eyes interested in what you had to say. So much for some privacy. “Alyssa’s father...he...got himself mixed with some of the wrong people...” you trail off as Percy sighs. “Lucius Malfoy decided to pay us a visit and...he killed him. Alyssa and I and her mother and sisters made it out in time, but we got separated. She just yelled at me to drive and...” you start becoming overwhelmed with the images of what had happened and tears start trailing down your face as a small sob escapes your lips as you quickly cover it.

Percy places a hand on your shoulder and rubs your back with a sad smile. “I’m so sorry,” he whispers as you pull yourself together with a deep breath. “You’re safe here. I promise that. Mum will take good care of you. We all will,” Percy gives you a small smile and for some reason, that makes you feel relaxed. Looking around at the people in the room, you feel comforted and safe. Something you needed after today. 

Coming back was Ginny with a fresh jumper. She gave you a good look and said, “You know what? Just come up to my room actually. You can wear some of my clothes and get out of those wet ones, yeah?” she offers you a kind smile and her hand as you gladly accept, following her up to her room.

As you disappear up the stairs, Fred watches you with a small smile on his lips. Molly and Arthur occupy themselves with talk about where you would sleep for the night and how they would reconfigure sleeping arrangements. George and Ron start fighting about how the fire isn’t big enough. But Fred just can’t stop watching you go up and up and up the stairs.

He clears his throat and then speaks, “Perc...hey.” Percy walks over to his brother. “This (Y/N) girl...she didn’t go to Hogwarts...did she?” he asks.

Percy shakes his head, “No. She’s been studying under her father since she was born practically. She’s a great person. Really funny, really smart, and damn good at her job,” he explains to Fred, who clings onto every last word. Fred didn’t know what it was, but there was something about you that just drew him in. And he wanted to know every thing there was to know about you. Percy quickly recognizes the look in his brother’s eyes and says, “Don’t get any ideas, Fred. Come on, she’s my friend.”

Fred shrugs, “So. Does she have a partner?” Percy sighs. “Great. So she’s available,” he wiggles his eyebrows as Percy slaps his arm. “I’m not gonna make a move on her, Percy! Godric...not yet at least.” But before Percy can slap him again, Fred is running away in the other room to join his twin and younger brother on the floor.

Practically jumping on George, Fred smothers his brother as George groans, “Would you get off of me, git?” Fred laughs before taking a seat next to him. “What’s got you so excited?” George looks at his twin before instantly realizing the change in his mood. “Good Godric, really? You fancy the girl? Merlin, Fred, she just got here and she’s clearly in distress over what she saw today!” George whisper yells at Fred who is too happy to care about what his brother scolds him over. 

He simply speaks, “I don’t plan on jumping on the girl tonight, George. I just am looking to get to know her better.”

“Before you jump on her,” Ron speaks, making George laugh as Fred slaps his younger brother upside the head.

“Hey! Who said I was doing to do any of that!” he defends himself. “I think she’s beautiful. I don’t know. There’s something about her that I...just can’t put my finger on. I don’t know. I just wanna get to know her better. Alright? Can you live with that?” Fred speaks to his brothers as they look at each other knowingly. 

But before Fred can defend himself further, you are back in the room, changed into fresh clothes from Ginny. You pull the jumper down more, covering your midriff as you sit back down on the floor in front of the fire with Ginny, you and her making light conversation. And the while, Fred steals little glances here and there. 

“So, you didn’t go to Hogwarts, but you learned under your father?” Ginny asks as you nod happily.

There was a part of you that felt like you really missed out on an experience. Not attending Hogwarts was a choice that your parents made without your input and you wished every day that you had spoken up and told them that you wanted to go. But instead, they argued that learning directly under your father would be a better education and whatever you didn’t learn, you could easily pick up with some help from your father, your mother, or any of their friends in the ministry. Other than that, you had a relatively happy childhood, working with magical creatures daily, running around the different departments with other children you could find. Life was good, until trouble started to appear in spurts.

You reply, “Yeah. When he steps down from his position, I’ll be there to take it over. It’s what I’ve been working towards my whole life.” When you spoke the sentence, it stung. It wasn’t like you had a choice. Your future was set out for you since the day you were born. 

Ginny smiles, “That’s really cool though. You don’t need to work about OWLs or NEWTs or any exams. Sounds pretty sweet.” You give her a weak laugh. Pretty sweet. 

Molly comes back in the room, a small cup of tea in her hands. “Black tea, cream, no sugar,” she coos. “Percy told me how you take it,” she winks as you smile and thank her graciously. “I’m glad to see that you’re in warm clothes now. For tonight, and I hope you don’t mind, you’ll spend the night in Fred and George’s room. George will spend the night in Ron’s room and Fred will sleep on the couch down here, so you’ll have some privacy,” Molly speaks with a smile.

You look around the room, “Oh! I can take the couch! Really! I don’t want to kick anyone out of their room!” you tell the group as they all give you small smiles.

“Nonsense!” Molly smiles. “A guest deserves to sleep on a proper bed. Besides this is just for tonight. Tomorrow morning, Arthur and Percy will get the extra mattress from the attic and bring it down into Ginny’s room.” You shake your head and profusely thank the twins for giving up their room and the both of them just smile while Fred drops his left eye into a wink, making your heart flutter in your chest. “You can stay here as long as you need, dear. We can find someone to come in and fix your car.”

But before you can protest, Fred speaks up, “Actually, no need to call someone, Mum. George and I fixed the flying Ford Anglia, I’m sure we can fix some muggle car.”

“What the bloody hell are you on about, we ne-”

Fred nudges George in the stomach, making him double over with an oof, as Fred smiles and continues, “We’ll have it repaired in no time.”

You look over at Fred with curious eyes and a small smile. There was something about him that just was so magnetic. His brown eyes, tufts of messy red hair, loose t-shirt that clung onto his arm muscles that flexed so gently underneath the green fabric. Just his smile was enough to have you captivated for eons. “Thanks,” you simply state with a smile and he nods. “Um,” you break away from his gaze. “I’ll, uh, get ready for bed then, I guess. It’s quite late.”

You rise from the floor and scurry up the stares, feeling eyes on you, and for some reason, you hoped that Fred was one of them.

It was two in the morning and the whole house was dead asleep. Except for you. Each time you closed your eyes, you felt the feelings and panic from hours before. Your heart thumped in your chest as you toss and turned in your sleep, an unsettled feeling wrestling in your stomach. 

Giving up, you sit straight up and huff, hearing the clock tick insistently on the wall, mocking you. You roll your eyes and swing your legs over the unfamiliar bed and rub your face. Standing up from the bed, you start to slug over to the door and down the stairs, trying to see if maybe a change of scenery would do you some good. 

When you walk down the stairs, you are careful to be quiet, not to wake up Fred. But lucky for you, he was wide awake, sitting on the floor in front of the fire place that was mere glowing embers. Fred turns and looks at you, a small smile dancing on his lips when he sees you. “Didn’t think you would be up,” you smile at him before taking a seat next to him on the floor, him scooting over so you could enjoy the residual warmth from the fire. 

Fred shrugs, “Couch isn’t super comfortable. The springs are digging into my back.”

You give him a sorry smile. “I’m sorry that I took your room for the night. I told you that I don’t mind sleeping on the couch. Not too late to take me up on my offer...” you give him a joking nudge, earning a light chuckle from one half of the Weasley twins.

“Very kind of you, but you take the room. I don’t mind sharing. Especially if it’s with a pretty girl,” he flirts as you feet heat rise to your cheeks, turning away from him so he couldn’t see your small smile. But Fred knows and that’s only earned him a proud feeling in his chest. “So,” he starts. “You’re friends with my dork brother, eh?” 

You lightly laugh, “He’s not a dork. Percy has been a really great friend. I really don’t know what I would do without him.” Fred gives you a small smile. “Truly. He’s really been my best mate.”

Fred wiggles his brows, teasing you. “Best mates, eh?” He bumps his shoulder into you as you giggle and roll your eyes. 

“Percy and I are just friends, come on,” you give him a playful shove. Fred smiles and shakes his head as you feel suddenly confident, a flirtatious comment falling off of your lips. “If we were, do you think I’d be down here talking to his cute brother?”

The comment makes Fred look at you, at first with wide eyes which eventually fades into a little smirk with ruby red cheeks. He chuckles, “Touché.” 

You and Fred sit next to the fire and continue to make conversation, talking about you, your life back home, and Fred and the joke shoppe. The more you talk to him the more you realize how easily conversation flowed between the two of you. Talking with Fred was like breathing; you didn’t need to think about it, it just happened so effortlessly. He made you laugh until you clutched your sides, doubled over in pain, which made his heart swell. Your laugh sounding like a beautiful melody of a familiar tune, something he could never grow tired of hearing.

“The shoppe really is a dream come true,” Fred smiles to himself as he watches the fire dwindle down. “It’s what George and I have always wanted our whole lives.” Watching Fred talk about the joke shoppe and seeing all the joy and passion behind his eyes was like watching fireworks. Captivating. The way he spoke about running his own business with his best mate and brother made a smile creep its way onto your face. “I can only imagine it’s the same way you feel about taking over your father’s position,” Fred looks to you with a hopeful smile as you gulp thickly.

You shrug, “Yeah. You can say that.” You wished you sounded more enthusiastic, but truth of the matter was you had no passion behind what you did. Sure, growing up you dreamed of taking over your father’s position and becoming head of the department. But as you grew up, you took up other interests and hobbies that outgrew your love of magical creatures. 

Fred instantly noticed your change in tone and twisted his eyebrows together. “That’s not a very convincing answer,” he laughs as you lightly chuckle. “You don’t want to take over his position?”

With a sigh, you rub your hands over your face. “I do, but...I don’t?” you look at him, wrapping your arms around your knees, bringing them close to your chest. You turn towards Fred and start, “I mean, my whole future was planned out for me when I was born. First born takes over the position. I’m first born so everything has been etched in stone for me. I love my family and what they do and I’ve always been passionate about it...but somethings missing, you know? As I grew up, I took different interests and now...I don’t know if I want to be in that position. I don’t want to be a part of the ministry anymore.” The confession was a lot to dump onto Fred, but for some reason you felt like he would understand. That he would listen to you. “I’m sorry that was a lot to unload.”

“Don’t apologize,” Fred smiles at you, placing a hand on your shoulder, rubbing it gently, making your heart race at the simple touch. Fred turns to face you, knees brushing against each other as you nibble on the inside of your cheek. “So, if you don’t mind me asking, what do you want to do with your life?”

A small smile appears on your face. “I want to own a book shoppe. I know it sounds dorky, but I want to own my own book store with every book in the world. Fantasy, mythology, history, science, maths, everything under the sun. I want people to come in and read and sit and learn new things,” you light up at the thought of having a place to call your own. “I regret every day not getting the ‘real school’ experience, but in a weird way, I think owning a book store would make up for it?” you lightly laugh as Fred stares at you with a dreamy smile on his face.

The way you spoke about books and people and learning was unlike anything he had ever seen. You completely lit up like a Christmas tree and Fred was smitten. “You want to know my opinion?” Fred asks as you nod. “I think...you should leave the ministry and open up your own bookstore,” he tells you as you lightly laugh. “I’m serious. You don’t have half the passion for the ministry like you do for the bookstore. This is your dream. You should follow it.”

“Okay, but opening a bookstore requires money and investors and actually getting books. I don’t have nearly enough,” you sigh as a mischievous smile appears on Fred’s face. “Uh oh. I don’t like that smile.”

Fred laughs, “It’s a good smile, don’t worry. What if...George and I were your first investors. I mean, the joke shoppe is booming and we have the money to invest in a small business.”

You start shaking your head. He was being overly generous for someone you just met today. “Oh, Fred, I couldn’t ask you to do that. That’s you and George’s money and-”

“And I want to use it where I see fit. And I think your business proposal is very promising,” Fred tells you with a small smirk as you sigh, heart fluttering at the way his face is illuminated by the embers of the fire place. “Sleep on it. I don’t need an answer right now. But you should think about it, (Y/N).”

You smile softly, playing with the cuffs of Ginny’s maroon jumper, heart thumping your chest. Slowly, you look up at Fred and his eyes are glued on yours, a soft smile on his pink lips. The two of you don’t say a word, just sat there, looking at one another, taking each other in as the fire crackles, the faint smell of burnt wood filling your senses. In this moment, Fred looked like someone you had known your whole life. Like you were supposed to be here, looking at him right now. You can feel his knee brush against you again, making the hairs on your arms stand up, goosebumps erupting along your skin as you inhale sharply. 

Clearing your throat, you start to stand up. “I should probably get back to bed,” you interrupt the moment as Fred follows suit.

“Yeah, uh, you’re right. I gotta get up early anyway to start fixing your car,” Fred scratches the back of his neck as you make your way back to the stairs. “Goodnight, (Y/N). Sweet dreams.”

You stop on the third step and smile shyly at Fred. “Goodnight, Fred. Sweet dreams,” you repeat before walking up the stairs, a bright grin etched on your face.

Two days have past since you arrived at the Weasleys. Morning comes quickly, day light streaming in through the window as you wake with a large stretch. You rub your eyes and look at the clock on the wall, the hands pointing to 10:13am. You had slept in later than expected, but maybe that’s what you needed. Slowly, you peel yourself from the bed and make your way downstairs, the hustle and bustle of the Weasley house in full swing. Ginny, Percy, and Ron are at the table, eating toast and eggs. “Look who decided to join the land of the living,” Percy teases as you smile with a groggy hey. “You hungry? Mum made enough eggs and toast to feed every fifth year at Hogwarts,” Percy laughs as you take a seat next to him, accepting a full plate of eggs, buttered toast, and a cup of tea the way you like it.

“Thank you, Molly,” you smile at the woman who places dirty dishes and pans in the sink as the magically begin to wash themselves.

She sends you a sweet smile and a wink, “Don’t mention it, dearest. Eat up. If you’re still hungry, there’s plenty more in the fridge.” 

As you start to eat, Ginny and Ron start to talk about the plans for the day, talking of maybe playing a quidditch match in the yard, Ginny entertains the idea of taking a trip to Diagon Alley, Ron going back and forth if he should visit Hermione or not. Percy just states he’ll be doing work from his room as you roll your eyes, nudging him lightly at how studious he was. You scan the table and the living room to see no Fred or George. They couldn’t be sleeping still, Fred wasn’t on the couch and Ron’s room was empty when you passed it. “Where are the twins?” you ask Percy as you bite into your toast.

“Outside fixing your car. Fred’s been working on it since Mum woke up. And she gets up early,” Percy emphasizes as you laugh. “George should be out there too or he’s in the shed looking for spare parts,” Percy sips his black coffee.

You nod and finish munching on your toast and eggs before rising from the table, placing your dish in the sink, and making your way outside to see what was going on. 

As you step outside, the warm sun engulfs you as you realize just how hot it was. Not the weather for Ginny’s heavy jumper that you slept in. But before you can complain about the heat, your eyes stumble on a sight that made you feel weak in the knees. 

You gulp thickly as you mouth run dry as the desert. Fred is leaning over the hood of your car, arms flexed as he tightens knobs on the engine, wiping the sweat from his forehead. Surrendering to the August heat, Fred pulls his shirt over his head to reveal his toned back muscles that glisten with summer sweat. He runs his grease covered hands through his hair, sweeping it back, his biceps flexing before he returns to his position covering over the car, grunting as he uses his strength to tighten and fix the bolts. His pants hang low on his waist as the tops of his boxers peak out from the material, making you inhale deeply. It felt so wrong to look at him, but you couldn’t pull your eyes away from the toned man in front of you. 

Finally snapping yourself out of your trance, you clear your throat, making your presence known. Fred turns towards you and a smile immediately forms on his lips. “Working hard or hardly working,” you tease him as you walk towards the car, leaning against him as Fred chuckles.

“Well, I’ve been up since six in the morning trying to fix this thing with no avail. So maybe the latter is more fitting,” he jokes as you smile. “How did you sleep last night?”

“Just fine,” you shrug before saying, “Um, thanks for staying up and talking with me for a bit the other night. It was nice.”

Fred smiles and folds his arms across his chest, your eyes darting down quickly to watch how his strong arms flexed over his toned chest, making you stomach do a flip. “Yeah, of course. You make great company,” he winks at you as you can’t help but giggle at his flirtatious remark. “Anyway, have you thought about my proposal?” he ask, raising his eyebrows and leaning over the hood of the car, closer to you as your heart stops at how close he was to you in this moment, mind drawing blank as your eyes scan over his naked top half. Fred notices your stare and he smirks, “Cat got your tongue, darling?” he coos.

But before you can speak, a voice interrupts, “Fred, would you quite harassing the guest?” You turn around to see George making his way back with a tool box and a wrench that he tosses to Fred who catches it with ease. “Morning, (Y/N),” George beams as you smile at him. “If my brother will stop flirting with you, hopefully we’ll get the car fixed by tonight.”

You chuckle as Fred rolls his eyes, continuing to work on the engine as you pry yourself from the car. “I appreciate it a lot. Taking the time out of your day to fix the car,” you tell the twins as they both smile and say it was no problem. “I’ll, uh, I’ll catch up with you two later,” you walk backwards back to the house before leaving the twins alone to fix the car as a smile lingers on your lips.

Fred watches you walk away, disappearing back into the house, his mind fixating on the way you looked in that jumper and sleep shorts, going to places where he shouldn’t really be thinking about. George punches Fred’s arm and snaps him out of his daydream. “Are you kidding, mate?” George laughs. “Come on.”

Fred groans, “I can’t stop thinking about her, George.” George rolls his eyes and shoves Fred out of the way, taking a look at the engine of the car. “We talked the other night for hours. She’s smart, and she’s funny, and bloody hell, she’s fucking gorgeous,” Fred huffs, running his fingers through his hair at the thought of you. He had just met you two days ago and you were already the first and last thing on Fred’s mind when he woke up and went to bed. “And I know there’s something there, mate. It’s just...awkward since we’re around everyone all the time,” Fred explains. “But I like her, George.”

George looks at his brother, giving him a look before realizing the sincerity behind his eyes and hopeful smile on his lips. George sighs and speaks, “Alright then. I’d say go for it, mate. If you think that there’s potential, what’s holding you back?” 

“Her life,” he breathes out as he leans against the car. “She works for the ministry. That’s where her life is, but she hates it. She told me that she wants to break away and move and open her own bookstore. (Y/N) wants a different life, but her obligations are holding her back,” Fred explains to George to tightens a bolt on the engine before looking up at his brother with a face that reads And? “I want to help her,” Fred speaks. “And not because I have a crush on her. Because she deserves it. After everything she’s been through, I want to help her live her dream,” he tells George who folds his arms over his chest. “Our dream came true and if we didn’t have help from Harry, who knows if and when our business would have taken off. The same can be said for (Y/N) and her dream.”

George goes back and forth as Fred anticipates a positive answer from his twin. With a sigh, George says, “Alright. Let’s do it. But under one condition!” Fred furrows his brows. “Don’t be doing this just because you fancy her. You really want to help her, right?” he clarifies.

Fred smiles gently, thinking about you and how happy you would be to receive the news that your dream is becoming a reality. “More than anything. She deserves it,” Fred speaks quietly as George smiles at his brother.

Night had rolled around just as quickly as the morning came and you were sat on the floor of Ginny’s room on the mattress as everyone got ready for bed. In your hands, a letter from Alyssa, that an owl had brought in just minutes ago. She was safe, thank Merlin, back in London, waiting for your arrival. But the thought of leaving the Weasleys now, when you were just getting to know everyone, made your chest feel tight with sadness. Getting to know your mate’s family was enjoyable, especially with this newfound connection with Fred. Leaving now would just screw things up. 

But you had duties to attend. The ministry, your family, Alyssa. You needed to get things back on track before staying here caused them to derail yet again. 

You hear footsteps coming from down the hall as you fold the parchment and tuck it in your waistband of your shorts as you rise from the mattress. Instead of Ginny appearing in the door way like you expected, it was a freshly showered Fred in his pajama bottoms and an old white t-shirt that was just thin enough so you could see the outlines of his toned torso. His lifts his hands up so he can hang on the door frame, his eyes tracing you up and down quickly. You smile gently, “You fix my car, Weasley?”

He chuckles, “Come take a look for yourself.”

The two of you start down the stairs, leaving the rest of the Weasley family behind as you made your way outside. The summer night is mild, the sounds of crickets fill the air, and the breeze smells of grass and dew. Fred runs over to your car that’s a few feet away from the back of the house and jumps into the driver’s seat, putting the key in the ignition, and the engine roars. You smile and clap your hands, a job well done. Fred hops back out as you sit yourself on the hood of the car, facing him. “Nicely done,” you compliment him as he pretends to tip his hat to you. “So, how long did it take you two to realize that there was a spell for fixing the car engine?” you reveal as Fred’s eyes widen.

“You knew this whole time and yet you made us work in the bloody heat?!” he exclaims with a small smile on your face as you laugh out loud, throwing your head back and clutch your sides. “You’re a monster!” he teases, slightly shoving your arm.

You laugh, “Come on, you had to admit it was funny. Ron starting placing bets on who would figure it out first. Molly even joined in at one point.” Fred scoffs and rolls his eyes. “But still...a job well done. Thank you. I’ll have to think of a way to repay you.”

Fred gives you a look and speaks, “I have a few things in mind...” Your heart starts beating quicker as your mouth becomes dry as Fred moves to stand in between your legs, hands on either side of you on the car. “First of them being,” he starts, “Move to London and start your own business.”

Part of you is disappointed with the request, wanting something else from the fire haired boy, but you sigh, “Fred, you know I ca-”

“George and I spoke this morning. We both want to help you get you on your feet, so we’re investing in your bookstore,” he gushes as you look at him with wide eyes. “There is an available building across the street from the joke shoppe. With your consent, we’ll put the down payment on it tomorrow and the shoppe is all yours. When business is booming, you can pay us back. But until then, the store is all yours. Ready to go when you are,” Fred tells you.

You are completely overwhelmed with the news and can’t wrap your mind around why they were doing this. Why you? You were speechless. “Fred, I-” you stutter. “I don’t know what to say...thank you...this is...I don’t know how to describe it, but I don’t kn-”

“You don’t have to thank me or George. We wanted to do this. Seeing you talk about how passionate you were made me want to help you out. It reminded me of when George and I were dreaming of starting a business. We wanted to help someone who we saw potential in. Or I saw potential in,” Fred tells you, scratching his neck, nervously looking down as your heart swelled. “And since you’re across the street from the shoppe, that means we can see each other more often,” he says. “If you want that is. It’s also a good way for Percy to come see you too if you prefer that over seeing me or George, you know. I don’t want to assume anything,” he rambles as you giggle.

Fred looks into your eyes as you gently smile at him. The moon illuminated his face in the darkness, softening his sharp features as he sighed, looking at you. In this light, you were close to perfection. Fred wanted to melt on the floor when you looked at him with those eyes. Eyes that held so much beauty and adoration. 

It wasn’t until his forehead gently touched yours that you realized you were moving in closer. Fred gently brushed his nose against yours, making you lightly laugh before he slowly connected your lips into a gentle kiss. When his lips touched yours, it set your body on fire. Slowly, you wrapped your arms around his neck as he placed his hands on your waist, pulling you closer to him. His lips were soft and sweet against yours, moving gently, pushing his tongue past your parted lips, kissing you deeply. The kiss made you feel lightheaded and foggy, losing your senses, but at the same time, all of your senses felt heightened in the moment. Fred was addictive, you wanted more and more and more and that’s what made him dangerous. But you were too caught up in the feeling of his hands on your skin, lips pressing against him, soft moans falling from your lips into his mouth. 

As Fred wrapped his arms around your waist, his hands brush up against something tucked into your waistband of your shorts. His laces his brows together before plucking it from your waistband, breaking your kiss as you whine when he does so. “What’s this?” he asks, holding up the parchment, confused.

You sigh and take it from him, playing with the letter in your hands. “It’s a letter, from Alyssa...she told me she’s safe with her mum and sisters. She’s in London,” you tell him as he smiles, rubbing your leg, knowing that her safety was important to you. “She’s...waiting for me...to come back to the ministry so we can get back to work,” you tell him.

Fred just laughs, “Well, you’re gonna have to break the news to her. I’ll get Errol and you can send her a letter tonight, telling her not to wait up.” But before Fred can run inside and get you parchment and a quill, you grab his hand and stop him, giving him a sad look. His happy eyes turn into confusion which turn into realization. “You are going to quit the ministry, right?” he asks as you sadly look away from him and back down at the parchment in your hands, nervously fumbling with it. “(Y/N), you hate it there. You have to quit.”

“I have duties, Fred. To my family. To the ministry. To myself. I can’t just throw away everything I’ve been working towards for years just for a silly dream!” you exclaim to him as he frustratedly runs his hands through his hair.

He scoffs, “A silly dream that I believe in. That George believes in. That you, at one point, believed in! I can help you! I’ll...I’ll...I’ll go down to the ministry with you tomorrow and help you face your father and Alyssa and all of them. We can move you out and into a flat and you can start living the life you wanted. Don’t you want that?” he throws his hands in the air defeated.

The whole situation had you torn up. Fred was offering you the chance of a lifetime. Your dream. Everything you desired Fred wanted to give to you with no strings attached. He just wanted to see you happy, doing the thing you loved. But on the other hand, you had an obligation to your family and the ministry. Leaving them would get you into some deep shit that would be too hard to recover from or climb out of. The last thing you wanted to do was pull Fred down with you. 

You retort, “Just because I want it doesn’t mean it’s right for me, Fred!” Fred stands there in silence, shaking his head. “People are depending on me to assume this position after my father steps down. If I let them down, the whole ministry will have a vendetta against me. Do you realize what that means for me? It means I’ll lose everything. My dreams. The shoppe. My family....you...�� you trail off at that last bit, but Fred catches it and looks at you with sad eyes. “Fred, I like you. I really do, but I can’t put you in a position that will make life a living hell for you.”

Fred shakes his head, “I am ready to take on whatever it is if it means you are happy. If it means that there’s a chance for us.”

His words make your heart ache with how much he already cared and it had only been three days since you met. But something deep down told you that this was something to fight for. Something to fight like hell for. But you didn’t know if you were prepared for that fight. “Freddie...I can’t...” you whisper to him, holding his face in your hands, trying to reach his sensibilities. 

Fred gulps and stays quiet for a moment, but it feels like years. “Okay,” he simply states. “If you don’t want to, that’s okay.” The tone of his voice makes your heart break. “I, um, I should probably get back inside. We both should. It gets cold out here quite quickly.”

Peeling himself away from you, he starts back to the Burrow as you hop down from the hood of the car. “Fred,” you call out as he turns around. “I’m sorry.”

He looks back at you and shakes his head. “Me too.”

Fred continues to walk back into the house as you stand outside, in front of your car, letter in your hand, heart breaking in your chest. The decision you made was right, but why did it feel so wrong?

“Percy, I can carry my own backpack to my car,” you laugh as you follow him down the stairs, Percy a few steps ahead of you.

Without looking back he speaks, “I insist. Now, go put something in your stomach. The drive back to London is long, so fill up.” You smile and shake your head as you walk into the kitchen as the rest of the Weasleys are sat around the table. You take a seat next to Ginny you passes you a plate full of pancakes as you graciously accept it. 

Everyone greets you with a small smile or a good morning, but Fred just looks up at you with sad eyes before going back to pushing food around his plate. But that didn’t stop you from glancing at him every now and again, wishing you could make him happier. The fact of the matter was that neither of you were happy with the decision that had to be made. Fred had offered you the world on a silver platter and yet you refused in fear of the consequences. You had only known him for two days and yet he was so ready to help you, to make you happy. How could he be so sure of something when you were so unsure of everything. 

But you push the thought aside and start to eat your breakfast. Ron starts conversation, “So, what’s the first thing you’re doing when you get back, (Y/N)?” he asks.

You think for a moment with a sigh. “There’ll probably a stack of work for me to sort through. I’ll tend to that first. And after that’s done...I don’t know. Probably try to get back in the routine of things, help my father out, tend to some department issues,” you speak plainly. The mundane nature of life back at home made your stomach twist as you thought of it in comparison to what life could be back in London in Diagon Alley with a bookstore to call your own...Fred right across the way...

Your thoughts are interrupted with a short chuckle from George. “Doesn’t sound like too much fun,” he tells you as you sigh with a small smile, figuring that Fred told him that you were taking him up on their offer of investment. 

“Is work supposed to be fun?” you ask, taking a bite off your fork.

Fred sarcastically laughs. “Yes, actually. George and I love what we do for a living. Work isn’t supposed to be a task, it should be something you love. Something you have a passion for. Something that makes you want to get out of bed and work towards. Otherwise, what’s your life then? Something so mundane and boring and when you’re dead you end up regretting what you did with it?” Fred blurts as George elbows him under the table. Fred stops, realizing that he may have gone too far. 

His words start to circle and dance around in your head, each one of them hitting you in the chest like a bullet. He was right. Why waste all of your time and effort into something you couldn’t care about? But it was too late. You were set out for the ministry and your family expected your arrival today. 

You finish eating breakfast and circle back to Ginny’s room, doing a once over to make sure you weren’t leaving anything behind. As you walked down the stairs of the Burrow, you felt sad to leave. Even the three days you spent here were the best days of the summer. Each day brought something new and exciting. Waking up each morning to see happy faces, Fred’s face...that was something you would cherish. 

One by one, you say your goodbyes and profusely thank the Weasleys for letting you stay for so long. Molly insists it was nothing and you can come visit whenever you liked. When you get to Fred, you don’t know whether to hug him or just move on. But he decides for you. “Can I walk you to your car actually?” he asks you as you nod gently. 

You give Percy a tight hug as you speak, “I’ll see you at work, Perc.”

But Percy turns to speak in your ear, “Will I?” You pull away from him sharply, giving him a look. Percy just smiles and speaks, “You’re a smart girl, (Y/N). A talented one at that. You are too big for the ministry.” You give him a gentle smile as he whispers, “Get the fuck out of there. For my sake.”

But before you can say anything, Fred and you are walking out of the Burrow and to your car. The walk to your car is awkward and quiet as you play with the hem of your t-shirt, kicking rocks as you walk down the dirt path. Fred digs his hands in his pockets as he walks to your car.

When you make it to your car, you turn to the tall ginger and sigh. The two of you just look at each other for a moment before Fred reaches out and brushes a piece of hair from your face as you lean into his touch. His touch makes your heart flutter as he smiles gently at you before pressing his lips to your forehead, kissing it sweetly. “Goodbye, (Y/N).”

Fred gives your hand a squeeze before letting it go gently, walking away from you and back to the Burrow. Your heart is beating a mile a minute and walking him walk away is like someone stabbing you in the gut. This isn’t how things were supposed to end. He wasn’t supposed to let you go. But if he was gonna let you go, you weren’t going to let him go. 

“Fred!” you call out, making him halt in his tracks and turn back to you, shielding his eyes from the bright August sun. Your chest is heavy as you gather up all the confidence you have in your body. “I fucking hate the ministry. I hate my job. I don’t want to take over for my father. I don’t want to take this path that’s been made for me!” you exclaim, arms stretched. Fred just looks at you. “I want to open a bookstore. I want to help people learn. I want to wake up every morning, excited for the day. I want to wake up every morning and...see you,” you confess to him with a smile. “I want you, Fred.”

Fred just stands there for a moment before slowly walking back towards you and you inhale deeply, trying to keep your negative thoughts at bay. When he reaches you, he lets a small smile creep its way on his face. “I want you. I want to wake up every day and see your beautiful face staring back at me. I want to be there for you, to make you happy, to support you, to protect you. To make you feel safe and sound. I want you, (Y/N),” he confesses back as you smile widely.

The two of you waste no more time as his lips connect to yours, holding you in his arms. His lips are smiling into the kiss as you wrap your arms around his neck, pulling him down to you. He pulls away with a goofy grin on his face as you chuckle, “My parents are going to kill me. The ministry is not gonna be happy about this.”

“Fuck the ministry,” he laughs as you join in. “I’m going to be by your side the whole time, helping you through it all. I swear. Through all the ups and downs.”

You hold his face in your hands as your heart swells in your chest. “I don’t like that I’m getting you into so much trouble,” you admit.

Fred rolls his eyes, “Oh, please, sweetheart. Trouble is my middle name.”

The two of you share another quick kiss before Fred grabs your hand and the two of you walk back to the Burrow, happily linked together. Fred calls out, “Ron! Go get the mattress again! We’ve got company!”

Summary: Ella and you were the forensic scientists of the L.A.P.D. One person in the precinct made your work rather hard. Lucifer Morningstar. You wish you had not caught a crush but you could not help yourself. Besides, you knew he only had eyes for Chloe. At least that was what you thought.

You were one of the L.A.P.D´s forensic scientists. The department had decided to hire a second professional since Ella needed help with her work. How you managed to get this job? You were not quite sure. One second you were still in college and the next you were working with this talented team. At first you were incredibly shy but the more time you spent there the more you warmed up.

There was one person you could not grow used to, though. This someone being Lucifer Morningstar, consultant of the homicide detective Chloe Decker. The first moment you had laid your (Y/E/C) eyes on him you knew you were fucked. It was not like you actually worked alongside him, that was Chloe´s job unfortunately, but you always met at crime scenes and recently more often at the precinct, too. Whenever the two of you were left alone, you could feel his piercing eyes on you, this smirk of his, and you were blushing like crazy. Your stupid crush should not distract you from your work but he was giving you a hard time with that.

“(Y/N)! New corpse not too far away from here. You coming?” only Ella could sound this excited over a dead person. Her enthusiasm made you chuckle.

“On my way.” grabbing your equipment, you made your way over to where she was waiting for you.

“Let´s go!” her smile looked like one of a child in a play factory.

Of course this job was handled by Lucifer and Chloe. Sometimes, especially on days like these, you wished for Dan because he never intimidated you like Luci did. Luci. You heard this nickname once when his brother visited him at work and ever since then you had been calling him so, too.

“Miss Lopez! (Y/N)!” maybe you were imagining it but you could swear his smile was a little bit wider when he looked at you and said your name. Stupid, you were stupid. Why were you getting your hopes up? It was obvious to everyone that he was in love with Chloe. How could he not? She was literally the most beautiful human being you had ever seen.

Ella and you examined the corpse, taking pictures of the scene and so on. Everything a forensic scientist was supposed to do. Yet the woman next to you noticed you were not really here.

“(Y/N)? Everything alright?” her voice snapped you out of stance. It was then when you realized that you had been staring at Lucifer and Chloe. How he smiled so lovingly at her. How his admiration for the woman next to him could be felt all across the crime scene.

“Um, yeah, sorry. I was just...thinking. Where were we?” clearing your throat, you acted as if nothing just happened. Ella, though, could see your staring. Actually, that was not the first time she had caught you eyeing the tall, handsome man up and down. Despite her efforts of leaving the two of you alone, making sure you ended up working together more, you never made the first step. Yes, he flirted with you but you thought it was his personality. He did that with everyone, right? Ella knew better though. She had known Lucifer for a long time now and she had never seen him this nervous around a person. He simply tried to hide this with his flirting and he succeeded.

“When will you admit it, huh?” when you turned to Ella you could see her arms being crossed in front of her chest. Your eyebrows quirked in confusion.

“Admit what?” you took another picture, trying to focus on the scene in front of you.

“Seriously? You´ve been eye fucking Lucifer ever since you stepped into the precinct. Do something about it, it´s getting tiring.” she stated matter of factly. That made you look towards her, shock written all over your face. Were you really that obvious? A hand came up to scratch at the back of your neck. You made sure nobody could here you. Stepping closer to Ella, you still wanted to stay as quiet as possible, just in case.

“And do what exactly? Huh, Ella? I´m not getting between two people, forget it!”

“Between two people? What are you talking about?”

“Duh, him and Chloe of course. Everyone knows they are pretty much in love with each other.”

“And everyone being you, only you.”

“What?” by now you did not understand anything anymore.

“Oh my God, (Y/N)...Lucifer has literally been trying to ask you out for THE longest time. I know what you´re talking about. He flirts with everyone, really. BUT he´s never nervous while doing so. Never except for when he´s talking to you.” Ella looked so done with you. How could you be so oblivious? She knew she had to help you guys. Otherwise she would go insane if she had to watch the two of you for much longer.

“Ella...Look, you know I have a crush on him, okay I got it. But please don´t just assume he likes me, too.” your eyes dropped to the floor.

“I have a plan.” Ella mumbled more to herself but your eyes met hers as you had heard her. What was she up to?

Chloe walked over to where you were standing, Lucifer following closely behind.

“You guys finished?” the detective asked looking between Ella and you.

“I think we got everything, yeah. We can head back.” going through the pictures you took yet again, you made sure that you really captured everything.

“Good job, (Y/N)!” Lucifer praised you. This made you focus your gaze down, heat rising to your cheeks.

“Okay, Ella, let´s go.” you looked at her, motioning to your car that was parked a few feet away from you.

“Um, actually. I promised Chloe we would go to this shop that recently opened downtown. I´m going with her.” Ella glared at Chloe, hoping she would pick up on the lie she was currently forming.

“What shop?” the confusion subsided after Chloe saw Ella´s stern look. “O-ohh. Ahhh, THAT shop, of course, Ella. Let´s go, I can´t wait to finally visit it. See you guys.” the detective grabbed Ella by one of her arms and dragged her towards her car.

“Um? DETECTIVE? How am I supposed to go back to the department? Dete-” but before he could even finish, the car doors slammed and Chloe sped away with Ella in the passenger´s side, smiling successfully. Picking up on what Ella was trying to do you let your previous conversation replay in your head. Maybe she was right. But if she was not...she would be dead by the end of the day.

“Well, I´m heading back anyway...You could come with me if you wanna?” your heart skipped a beat but you were proud of yourself for delivering this without stuttering or anything. Lucifer´s smile grew at your offer.

“With pleasure, (Y/N).” the way your name sounded out of his mouth was so heavenly, so soft. Something you knew you wanted to hear all the time.

You both got seated in and as you were about to start the engine, you heard Lucifer speak up.

“That´s a lovely car. How come I´ve never been in here?”

“Why, thank you, Luci. I usually take Ella everywhere, that´s probably why.” this time you found yourself smiling from ear to ear. You enjoyed being in his presence. Yes, he could be a sarcastic piece of shit but so could you.

“Do you want to head back right away?” his look made you melt but you were not quite sure what his intention was. You went with it anyway.

“What are you suggesting?” you asked, hoping his next words were what you always wanted to hear.

“I know a nice restaurant in the city. Let me play navigation device.”

“Are you asking me on a date after investigating a crime scene?” you giggled at his plan.

“Um, yeah..I am.” Lucifer grew nervous and this was the first time you could actually tell he was. Ella was right, then. You had this effect on him.

“I´d love to, Luci.” you answered fast in order to not make him uncomfortable.

“Off we go then.” his smirk was already plastered on his face again. Of course, Devil things.

“First off all you need to start the engine, I´m afraid.” and there he was again, the teasing Lucifer everyone knew and loved.

“Really? Shit, haven´t thought about that at all.” your sarcastic tone made him laugh. You started your car and looked over at him. “Where to?”

“Turn right.” was the only thing he said. You could not believe that he asked you on a date. YOU. All this time you thought you were just a good friend. All this time you thought he had his eyes on Chloe. Oh, how wrong you were. This felt like the beginning of something magical. This felt right.

The jist of it: You finally get to meet your soulmate, Yamaguchi

You were hopelessly in love with your soulmate. From the moment you had that first conversation on your forearm, you were hooked. You were able to communicate with your soulmate when you turned 13, anything you wrote or drew on your skin shows up on theirs, and vice versa. You remember the giddy feeling you felt during lunch when you and your friends passed around a pen, writing various things on your bodies for your soulmates to see. You had decided to write a simple ‘hi :^)’ on your wrist. Almost immediately you saw ink blossom, forming ‘hello XD’ in a surprisingly neat handwriting. You squealed like any other 13 year old would, showing your friends and talking about what you thought your soulmates were like.

From that day on, you and your soulmate talked daily, greetings in the morning, funny things that happened during the day, and sweet goodnights after the day had ended. The two of you talked about anything and everything, listing your likes and dislikes, your hopes and dreams. Over the next two years he became one of your best friends, even though the two of you had yet to meet. You had made it a habit to write little statements of encouragement on your arm when he would be playing volleyball, knowing your soulmate was insecure on his abilities. You remember how happy he was when he got on his high school team with his friend, talking about two other first years and how crazy good they are. You also remember his surprise when you told him you were joining your high school’s team as the manager, writing to him how he had gotten you interested in the sport and how you hoped the two of you would get to meet.

You smiled as you finished writing the ‘you got this service ace <3’ on your wrist and got back to the task at hand. Which was to get Lev to stop whining and to practice his receives. You were Nekoma’s manager, and unfortunately that meant being Lev’s babysitter occasionally. You sighed and put your hand on your hips, staring down at the first year, who was currently on the floor. “Lev! We have the training camp coming up, don’t you want to show your friend how much you’ve grown?” You smirked as your words worked their charm, the teen scrambling up to join Yaku in practice. You walked around some more, making sure no one needed anything, and filling in when needed.

You sat on the bench and glanced at your arm when you felt the tell-tale feeling of your soulmate writing back. ‘Our coach told us were going to a training camp in Tokyo! Is your team going?’ You gasped at the words, catching the attention of your team, who were enjoying a water break. You jumped up from the bench, hopping excitedly. Kuroo looked at you quizzically, eyebrow raised, “What’s gotten into you, (Y/N)?” You smiled, giddy feeling spreading throughout your body. “My soulmate is coming to our training camp! He just got the news from his coach! I get to meet him Kuroo!” You were shaking the captains shoulders by the time you finished talking, feeling energized, like you could take on anything. Kuroo laughed, grabbing your wrists to steady you. “Oh really? What’s his name, maybe we know him.” You stopped in your tracks, feeling stupid, Of course! Why didn’t you think of that earlier, Nekoma had played every team coming to the training camp, they must’ve played his. “His name is Yamaguchi Tadashi! He plays for a school in Miyagi, Karasuno I think.”

You were surprised at the feedback you immediately got, Lev and Yamamoto yelling about some of their friends, even Kenma looked up at you, which only confused you more. “I take it then you guys have played against them? Did you meet him, what was he like?” Kai is the one to respond to you, everyone else too busy talking about the rivalry between the two teams. Kuroo even went as far as to compare the two of you to Romeo and Juliet. You rolled your eyes at the captain, thanking Kai for his help before Yaku speaks up. “Uh, (Y/N)? Did you ever respond to him?” You blanched and scrambled for a pen, completely forgetting to respond to him in all of the excitement. ‘Oops sorry I got excited and forgot to reply lol, but yeah! We are hosting the training camp! I’m super exited to meet you!’ You smiled brightly, excitement not dimming, as you got back to practice, you were finally going to meet your soulmate.

In Miyagi, Yamaguchi thought he was going to have a heart attack. When he saw that you were indeed going to be at the training camp he got nervous, what if you didn’t like him? What if you thought he played bad and didn’t want to be soulmates anymore. Could you choose not to be soulmates anymore?! Sensing his friends distress, Tsukishima sighed and flicked Yamaguchi’s forehead, bringing the teen out of his spiral. “Oi, stop freaking out, they’re your soulmate, of course they’re going to like you.” Yamaguchi exhaled, know Tsukki was right, determination filling him. He was finally going to meet you.

The days seemed to fly by, and soon enough you were standing outside the gym with your team, eagerly awaiting Karasunos arrival. You fidgeted with your hands as you saw the bus approach. You knew what he looked like from your teammates descriptions and fuck, he sounded cute. Yaku laid a reassuring hand on your shoulder, trying to help ease some of your nerves.

You watched as the team shuffled out of the bus, watching for a mop of green hair and- wow, your team did not do him justice one bit. Kuroo snorted when he saw your open mouth expression. “Well? Are you going to go greet your soulmate?” You flushed, watching Yamaguchi look around before his gaze settled on your team. They approached and you cleared your throat, remembering you still had manager duties. “Welcome! My name is (Y/N), I’m the manager, thank you for coming!” The team echoed a greeting back, two of them going to talk to Yamamoto, and you went to go help their managers when Inuoka stopped you. “We’ll help them (Y/N), go say hi already geez.” You smiled nervously at him, turning to look at the guest team, most of which had already followed Kuroo inside, except for a few who were either talking to Hinata or Yamamoto. You furrowed your brow, you didn’t see him anymore, did he not realize it was you? Before you could move inside, a hand gently placed itself on your shoulder.

You whipped around and once again, were speechless. He had a nervous smile on his face, blush highlighting his freckles. God, he was beautiful, you thought. How in the world did you get so lucky. You coughed awkwardly when you realized you had been staring. You smiled up at him, and it felt like everything else just melted away. “Wow, you’re a lot taller than I thought you’d be.” You sighed breathlessly. He snickered, and you knew then, you were absolutely going to marry him.

You smiled fondly at the memory of when you first met Tadashi, looking at the grocery list you had written on your arm, forgetting to bring paper with you. You watched as a few items had been added, in your husbands handwriting, throwing a few packs of black licorice in the basket for him. You were looking in the aisle for something else, when a pair of arms snaked around your waist, startling you. You yelped, and turned around to smack his chest, shaking your head fondly at his giggles. He held you closer, kissing your forehead. He moved to intertwine your hands, reaching over you to grab a few packs of what you were looking for. He tossed the Strawberry Mentos into the basket, squeezing your intertwined hands and pulling you along to the next aisle, mumbling about what he wanted to make for dinner tonight. You tugged on his hand, stopping him next to the pasta section. He raised a brow at you, and you only smiled, tugging him into a kiss, pinching his cheek as you did so. He smiled into the kiss and a familiar warmth spread through you, yeah, you were definitely in love with your soulmate.

Patton had eaten five meals, and Virgil still wasn't back yet. He tried to not panic. His ears and head still ached from whatever operation he'd went through—which he had suspicions about. Were they trying to make him hear? It hadn't worked, if that was it. And if so, were they currently trying to cure Virgil's blindness?

There wasn't much to do, without Virgil there. Patton walked around the room constantly, refusing to pull their book from under the pillow without Virgil there. He made up new signs to teach Virgil when he got back, one for 'hope' and another for 'out' and a third for 'free'. He washed his shirt in the sink, froze when he went to hang it on the unused bed and saw Virgil's hoodie already there. He completely broke down when the next meal arrived, still only one serving on the tray.

After the sixth meal, Patton just stopped. He couldn't imagine life without Virgil, so he just stopped everything. The seventh meal was pushed through the flap, but Patton couldn't find the motivation to get off the bed. He'd never felt this way before—even when Father had been taken, he'd continued to go about his life. He'd been rather disconnected for some time, but he hadn't just fallen apart like this.

What did Virgil mean to him? Patton tried to tell himself to grow up. Why was he this hung up over an Outsider? But Virgil wasn't just an Outsider, wasn't he? Virgil was . . . more. More than a friend, more than anyone in the Haven, more than the so-called 'Prophets' that led them. Virgil made him feel all funny in his stomach when he smiled, made him laugh with his wry looks, made Patton feel safe when he held him. Was that . . . love?

Then the eighth meal didn't arrive when it was supposed to. Patton wasn't sure how he knew that—some sixth sense, probably. It confused him, and just as he was sitting up, the door opened.

Two men dragged a soaked, pale body into the room, and it took Patton far too long to recognize his Virgil. The man was shaking, utterly convulsing, and had it not been for the look that one of the men—'Brother' Coleman, Patton thought snidely—leveled at him, Patton would have already been on the floor, holding Virgil close. Instead, he curled back onto the bed slightly, seeing the men laugh at his submission then leave the room, slamming the door behind them.

Patton dove to the ground and took Virgil by the shoulder, intending to wrap him in a hug. He pulled back as if he'd touched a stove when Virgil violently flinched away. He couldn't hurt him, not Virgil! Still, he needed Virgil to know he was safe. Patton took his wrist as gently as possible, slowly tracing his own name onto Virgil's arm. Virgil relaxed considerably, his mouth moving in the way that Patton knew formed his own name. His screwed-shut eyes relaxed, then his head slumped, his body slowly losing all the tension it had been holding. He was still shuddering, sending droplets of water every which way, but Patton assumed he was asleep.

I'm sorry, Virgil. He wasn't strong enough to pick Virgil up, despite being the larger one of the two. Father had never let him build muscles, always signing something about 'being seen as a threat' when Patton asked why. Instead, he eased Virgil out of his sopping t-shirt and jeans and stripped the two blankets from the bed, wrapping him in them instead. For the moment, he left the sopping clothes on the floor as he brushed Virgil's wet hair out of his face. The man's hair had grown too long in the months they'd been captive, almost curling around his shoulders. Virgil's forehead was far too hot (the rest of his body clammy and cold) and Patton could have cried—was crying, because this was the only person who cared about him, the only person he cared about, and he could be dying! They'd hurt Virgil, those monsters, doing it in the name of some stupid religion!

Patton's eyes burned, but he pushed aside his roiling feelings in favor of easing a pillow under Virgil as he noticed how his head was bumping up and down as he shook. Virgil needed his help, and being upset about something he couldn't control wouldn't help him.

Patton gently took Virgil's hand, slowly caressing his knuckles. The man stayed asleep, though the line between his eyes smoothed out just the slightest bit. Another tear slipped from Patton's eye. They'd hurt him, they'd hurt him and they didn't care! Not only had they hurt Virgil, an Outsider—his blood boiled at the term—but they'd hurt Patton, a brother like them!

No, Patton had never been a brother. He was different. Maybe they'd thought if they were able to fix him he could be just like them. As a child, all he'd wanted was to be normal, be like them. Even up until recently he'd wished for it, knowing that if he could hear, they wouldn't have locked him up like this, hurting him in their attempts to make him right.

Now, though, Patton knew he never wanted to be like them. They were terrible; the way they treated Patton had nothing to do with his disability and everything to do with the type of horrible people they were. They preached love and caring, while those who didn't fit precisely into their ideal world were forced to conform or suffer—or both, in his case.

These people, these people that Patton had once considered himself one of, had tortured him—locked him up—kidnapped and tortured Virgil, gods, they were monsters!

Patton fully sobbed now, careful to not grip Virgil's hand too tight and wake him up. He had never wanted to leave this place more in his life. If they could get out, everything would be so much better. He would actually be able to take care of Virgil, to keep him safe and close. They would never touch Virgil again.

Patton knew when Virgil woke up, as the body beside him began to tremble. After around twenty minutes of Virgil being asleep and Patton rubbing his limbs with one of the blankets, the shaking had begun to die down. Patton hadn't slept at all, his blood still boiling, so he'd been awake hours later when Virgil's flushed face cooled down, the fever breaking.

Now, Patton watched with bated breath as those beautiful, clouded grey eyes flickered open—but they weren't. They were red, bloody, filled with pain. Patton forced himself to not pull back as his stomach lurched. Virgil's brow furrowed deeply, then his eyes closed again as his lips moved.

Patton gripped his wrist gently, letting him know he was there. He quickly spelled out Virgil's name, watching and sighing at the smile that flitted onto Virgil's face. Virgil's hand shakily traced a 'P' back before falling.

The food had arrived not long before, so Patton gently tugged Virgil into his lap and pressed a cup of water to his lips. Virgil obediently took a sip, chest twitching as he almost choked. A quick question of food? had Virgil nodding, so Patton scooped up a small amount of instant mashed potatoes, then another when it was gone. Virgil only managed half the serving before he had to tap out, shaking more than earlier.

Patton knew that it would help Virgil to be on the bed, but with the way his legs were twitching he didn't think it would be wise to try to help him stand. So, he did the only thing he could think of to comfort him—get his hoodie and curl up at his side.

Virgil cried when Patton wrapped the hoodie around him, tugging at Patton's heartstrings. All he wanted in life were two things:

To comfort Virgil in any way possible, and

To get revenge on the bastards that hurt him.

Virgil didn't seem to want to sleep again, so Patton left him for a moment—only a moment, but it had Virgil shaking harder—and returned with their book, opening it to page sixty-eight, where they had left off last. Only ten words in, Virgil jerked his arm away. Patton waited patiently. Virgil was likely experiencing sensory overload, which happened occasionally depending on how anxious he was. Patton didn't move, and soon Virgil tapped a short sentence into his arm.

Please hold.

Patton melted, then placed the book aside and wrapped his arms around Virgil. He squeezed the man's shoulders gently, and Virgil buried his face into his chest and wept.

I'm here, Patton did his best to telepathically communicate. I'm here and I love you and I won't hurt you.

If Virgil understood, he didn't show it. Patton settled for pulling him closer, rubbing slow circles into his back and nuzzling his nose into Virgil's hair.

I love you. I love you so much.

the day after

The tears come unbidden, and Shouto drops his phone in his lap to press the heels of his hands against his eyes. He can already feel frost creeping over his cheek, his tears cooling and hardening as they pass down his skin and over the frozen patches shining translucent white in the daylight.

So many people care for him...and he has no idea why.

Shouto wakes to the faint scent of burnt sugar. 

The scent in and of itself isn't odd, but Shouto can't ever remember it being the first thing to pervade his senses upon waking. 

He also feels warm. Comfortably so. It's not blistering or suffocating, like it normally would be if his Quirk had gone haywire in his sleep.

Shouto opens his eyes, blurred vision obscuring his view of the room around him. He brings a hand to rub at his right eye, to clear the sleep clouds from his eyeball. What he sees thereafter are unfamiliar surroundings, and an unfamiliar ceiling looking down on him. The morning light filters in differently through curtains that are nothing like his own. The bed he's on feels nothing like his futon, the blankets and pillow soothing his skin in a way that his own covers don't. The modern style of the room gives off such a startlingly different vibe than his own traditionally-modeled one, and yet...Shouto feels at ease, though he's not quite sure where he is at first. 

He rolls over onto his side, seeing neat and tidy bookshelves, an organized desk, a chest of drawers. Not a single hair out of place. 

Ah, right. He's in Bakugou’s room.

Shouto rolls onto his back again, stretching his arms up and groaning as he feels the tension bleed out of his aching muscles. His hand smacks the headboard as his arms fall back down, and he hisses as he shakes his hand to dull the pain. A piece of paper comes floating down from where he'd hit the headboard, landing next to his head on the pillow.

Blinking, Shouto reaches for the paper and pulls it up in front of his face. It’s a handwritten note, short and sweet, in Bakugou’s hard, scratchy handwriting.

You slept too long, so I just got up and went and did my shit for the morning.

Stay as long as you want, I guess. Just don’t burn a fucking hole in my blankets or some shit. Return my clothes whenever, just wash them first. Don’t want your loser stink on them.

Despite the guilt already pooling in his stomach for putting Bakugou out last night, Shouto can’t help the small smile that tugs at his lips. He looks down at the shirt he’s still wearing, seeing the skull design staring right back up at him. It looks angry, but Shouto doesn't feel intimidated by it. It's kind of like Bakugou, in that regard.

Stretching one final time, Shouto eases himself up and stands up from the bed. He looks around on the floor for his uniform that he'd changed out of last night, but it's nowhere in sight. He even kneels down to look under the bed, in case his clothes had been kicked under there. Still finding nothing, Shouto sighs and stands up again. 

He'll just have to ask Bakugou about it later. 

He also briefly glances around for his phone, but doesn't see that anywhere either. 

"I wonder if I left it upstairs…" Shouto thinks aloud, eyes going up to the ceiling where he knows his room is just on the other side.

He doesn't really want to go back in there, but. Well. He needs to at least get some fresh clothes, and possibly his phone. No use in puttering around and putting off the inevitable.

But in this short time, Bakugou’s room has become a safe haven for Shouto without him really realizing it until he has to leave it. 

Sighing again, Shouto heads for the door and pulls it open slowly, quietly, as if he doesn't want to be caught. 

Old habits die hard, after all.

"Oh, Todoroki!"

Shouto almost has the door closed when the voice greets him, and he turns his head until he sees Kirishima standing in front of his own dorm room. The redhead looks like he's about to head out, keys dangling from the belt loop of his jeans and his hoodie halfway zipped up.

Shouto stares at him like a deer in headlights before he even thinks to respond, blinking rapidly a few times. "H-Hello, Kirishima," he says, hoping the other boy didn't catch the stutter at the beginning of the greeting. 

"I'm glad to see you up and about," Kirishima says, smiling that infectious smile that makes the points of his teeth shine under the hallway lights. "Did you get some rest last night?"

"I...suppose I did," Shouto answers slowly, finally pulling Bakugou’s door shut with a click. 

"Good, I'm glad," Kirishima says. He looks like he wants to step forward and...hug Shouto, or sling his arm around his shoulder, or...something. Kirishima has always been more of a physical being, showing his affection through touch and gestures more than anything else. 

To be honest, Shouto wouldn't be averse to any of those things at the moment. He wants to tell Kirishima that, but...he's scared. 

"Thank you for asking after me," he says instead, and he means it. He's grateful for Kirishima’s concern, even when he doesn't feel like he deserves it much. He crosses one arm across himself, gripping into the sleeve of the other arm with a white-knuckled grip. 

"Of course, dude, you're my friend!" Kirishima says as if it's the most obvious thing in the world. "I want you to be okay, y’know?"

Shouto nods dumbly, blinking away some stray tears that have somehow materialized in the corners of his eyes. 

Kirishima seems to notice something in Shouto’s countenance that is cause for concern, because the spiky-haired boy steps forward and pulls Shouto into a fierce hug. The spikes of Kirishima’s hair poke at Shouto’s face, but it's somehow a comfort rather than a nuisance. 

"K-Kirishima…"

"I don't know what you're going through, but I'm here for you, okay? We all are," Kirishima says, speaking for not only himself but the rest of Shouto’s friends. There's such sincerity and conviction in Kirishima’s words that Shouto has to swallow around a lump in his throat.

"Thank you," Shouto responds a bit breathlessly, maneuvering his arms to return the hug in some way. 

They stand there for a few seconds until Kirishima gives him a final squeeze before detaching himself from Shouto. He smiles and pats Shouto on the shoulder. "Text me if you ever need anything, Todo-bro-ki. I got your back."

Shouto allows himself to smile back at Kirishima—it's a tiny, fragile little thing, but it's a smile nonetheless. "Thank you," he says again, hoping Kirishima knows he means it.

Shouto has barely been in his room for a minute before he hears a quiet, almost hesitant knock at his door.

He heads over to the door and opens it a crack, seeing a familiar shade of green. This prompts him to open the door all the way, so he can fully view his best friend standing meekly in the hallway.

Midoriya looks a bit of a disaster. He holds his hands in front of his chest, fidgeting with his fingers like he has no idea what to do with them. His hair is disheveled, even by its typical messy standards, like he’s been running his hands through it non-stop for hours. Shadows crease beneath his wide, innocent eyes like he hasn’t slept a wink. And when those eyes look right up at Shouto, tears start cascading down flushed, freckled cheeks.

“T-Todoroki-kun…” Midoriya says, his voice wavering and cracking.

“Midoriya? What’s wrong?” Shouto asks, panic beginning to creep up his throat. If Midoriya has been in this bad of shape and Shouto’s been too busy wallowing in his own depressive tendencies, then— 

Before Shouto can even finish his train of thought, Midoriya barrels into him and hugs him so tightly that Shouto can feel his spine crack.

“I was so worried about you!!” Midoriya wails into Shouto’s chest, tears staining through the skull-print shirt of Bakugou’s that Shouto is still wearing. “You were acting so off yesterday and when I couldn’t get ahold of you or find you after class, I...I…” Midoriya hiccups, clings tighter to Shouto. “Kacchan t-told me that you j-jumped...and…” A fearful whine escapes Midoriya then, and he buries his face harder into Shouto’s chest.

Shouto is at a loss, isn’t sure exactly what to do but attempt to return the hug. He settles his longer arms around Midoriya’s broader shoulders and sets his chin atop a nest of green curls. “It’s okay, Midoriya...I’m okay,” he emphasizes in a whisper, patting Midoriya’s back in what can only be described as an awkward gesture. He should be used to physical affection by this point, especially from Midoriya, but sometimes it still catches him off-guard and he finds himself stumbling over how to reciprocate.

Midoriya still keeps his face buried in Shouto’s chest as he continues speaking. “If anything had happened to you, I would have never forgiven myself. Never. I knew something wasn’t right, but I wanted to give you some space, and th-then…”

Shouto makes some shushing noises, almost as if he’s trying to console a child. “It’s okay,” he repeats, even though everything feels anything but. The guilt starts bleeding into his veins again, guilt at making his best friend so distraught over his well-being.

Dipping his head just a little lower, Shouto lets out a sigh through his nose that ruffles Midoriya’s hair. Some friend he is, making everyone worry needlessly.

“Please, Todoroki-kun…please, I want you to know that you can trust me...that you can confide in me,” Midoriya says, his voice a little more even as his tears begin drying up. He pulls away from Shouto just far enough that he can look up at the taller boy. “I care about you very much. All of us do. So, please…” Midoriya’s crooked fingers tighten into the fabric at Shouto’s back. “Please don’t shut us out. Don’t shut me out. I want to help you, whenever you need it.”

Yet another unbidden smile finds its way onto Shouto’s face. He brings his hand up and pats the top of Midoriya’s head. “Okay...I can do that,” he agrees, then his smile turns downward at the corners. “I’m...sorry for worrying you so much. I didn’t mean to.”

It’s Midoriya’s turn to say, “It’s okay,” and even though he’s still crying, a small smile peeks through his distress. “I’m just...I’m glad you’re not hurt...or worse.”

Shouto sobers up hearing that comment, holding his breath for a moment. It’s funny, in an extremely non-humorous way, how Shouto’s own pain has reached so far outside of himself. It’s jarring to think that in hurting himself, he’s also been hurting some of the people most important to him.

He can't ever allow that to happen again. He doesn’t want to hurt anyone. Himself, sometimes, yes. But never anyone else.

Midoriya finally lets go of him, seemingly convinced that Shouto won’t disappear the moment he removes his arms from around him. “Do you, um...Uraraka-san and Iida-kun are downstairs, and Yaoyorozu-san...and some others...they’d be really happy to see you if you wanted to come down?”

Shouto nods. He probably should show his face, to prove to everyone that he’s doing better now and that they don’t have to worry after him anymore today. Besides, he also feels like he owes it to everyone for causing such trouble.

"Sure," he agrees with a small smile. "Just, ah, I need to change first." He tugs at the hem of the black shirt. "Is Bakugou down there too? I need to return his clothes."

Midoriya takes a surprised step back, looking Shouto up and down as if just now realizing the skull shirt and too-short sweatpants don't, in fact, belong to Shouto. A laugh escapes him then, and he rubs his tear-stained face with his scarred hand. "How...how did I not notice those were Kacchan’s clothes?" he asks the air rather than addressing Shouto directly. "I think I saw Kacchan earlier, in the laundry room?" he then says, tapping his chin in thought. "Not sure where he is now, though."

Shouto hums in response. "I'm sure I'll find him at some point." He pauses, then regards Midoriya with regret in his mismatched eyes. "I'm...sorry, again, for worrying you so much."

Midoriya smiles warmly at him, going in for another hug. "It's okay, Todoroki-kun. I worry because I care, y’know?"

"Yeah…" Shouto nods, returning the hug much easier this time. "I know."

Sometimes Shouto wonders what he's done to deserve such an amazing friend like Midoriya. Someone so kind and big-hearted.

Midoriya pulls away, still smiling gently up at him. "See you downstairs?"

Shouto nods again. "Yeah...I'll be down soon."

After he's washed his face and changed into his own clothing—"grandpa clothes," as Ashido calls them, consisting of plain black pants and a knit cardigan—Shouto sits quietly on his messy futon for a few minutes to gather himself. He had spotted his phone sitting on his desk, blinking with so many new notifications that it had him balking. So now he sits, scrolling through the endless messages from not only the class 2-A group chat, but also some individual friends and classmates. 

Midoriya: todoroki-kun is everything okay? you left class so suddenly…

Midoriya: i'm sorry to bother you, but i tried knocking on your door and you're not answering so i thought i'd text you? of course if you're sleeping that's understandable, but it’s worrying me that you're not answering 

Midoriya: todoroki-kun where are you????

Midoriya: please answer me

Midoriya: kacchan told me what happened 

Midoriya: i…

Midoriya: please be okay

Midoriya: i can't

Midoriya: just

Midoriya: can i see you tomorrow?

Kirishima: hey dude, bakugou filled me in on what's going on w/ u, just checking in to make sure you're okay

Iida: Todoroki-kun, we've been looking all over for you. Please contact me or Midoriya-kun or Uraraka-kun as soon as you are able. We are concerned for your safety.

Iida: I want to help, if you’ll allow me. 

Uraraka: todoroki-kun!!! we're worried about you!!

Uraraka: please answer deku-kun, he’s losing his mind

Uraraka: i don’t really know what’s going on with you, but if you need me, or any of us, just say the word and we’ll come with plenty of hugs for you!!!

Yaoyorozu: Todoroki-san, is everything alright? Ever since today’s practical exercise, you’ve had me very worried.

Yaoyorozu: I’ll be more than happy to brew you a cup of your favorite tea if you feel the need to relax and talk. 

Bakugou: i swear to fuck i will beat the shit out of you if you even try anything funny, icyhot

The tears come unbidden, and Shouto drops his phone in his lap to press the heels of his hands against his eyes. He can already feel frost creeping over his cheek, his tears cooling and hardening as they pass down his skin and over the frozen patches shining translucent white in the daylight. 

So many people care for him...and he has no idea why.

He's nothing special. Just a damaged, broken eugenics project created by some monster who dares call himself a hero. 

And yet…all these people—people he has the honor and privilege to call his friends—think he's special. See something special in him that has nothing to do with his Quirk or his family name. But they're so much more special to him than he ever could, or should, be to them. 

Shouto sucks in a shaky breath to try and calm himself, pull himself together so he can join his classmates downstairs and bask in their friendly warmth. Goodness knows he needs some warmth right now. Like yesterday, he’s having trouble mustering up the will to use his Quirk to warm himself up.

What he would give to be sleeping in Bakugou’s arms again, the other boy’s warmth a balm on his bruised heart.

Blowing out a resolute breath, Shouto rises from his futon with his dying phone in his hand. He plugs it into the charger and leaves it on his desk, figuring he won’t need it if he’s going to be in his friends’ company already. He picks up Bakugou’s shirt and sweatpants from where they sit folded on the desktop and throws them into his clothes hamper with the rest of his laundry.

Return my clothes whenever, just wash them first. Don’t want your loser stink on them.

Shouto smiles a bit as he hoists his hamper up off the floor, balancing it against his hip with one arm. He takes one last look around his lonely room before heading downstairs to join Midoriya and the rest of his friends.

After he throws a load in the wash, of course.

Shouto hasn’t seen Bakugou all day.

He’d spent the majority of the late morning and afternoon in the common area with most of class 2-A. His usual group had been there—Midoriya, Iida, and Uraraka barely left him any space on the sofa, the three of them sitting protectively around him the entire time. Yaoyorozu had also been present for most of the day, until she pulled Kaminari, Sero, and a few others away for a much-needed study session. Even Kirishima had dropped by after returning from wherever he’d gone off campus—quite literally dropping himself onto Shouto and creating a dogpile of hugs that he couldn’t escape from, even if he’d wanted to. 

Yet for as content as Shouto is, without Bakugou’s presence, it feels like there’s something missing.

When he decides to retire to his room well past dark, Midoriya offers to carry up his clothes hamper, now full of clean clothes, for him. Shouto declines the offer, but ruffles Midoriya’s hair anyway in thanks. He waits with his hamper tucked against his hip as the elevator crawls its way up to the fifth floor, and almost dejectedly drags his feet to his dorm room. He listlessly presses the keycard against the door handle until the lock clicks open, and bumps the door open with his hamper.

Shouto contemplates just going to bed, but he’s not sure if he’d even be able to fall asleep in the pressing quietness of his room. He decides that he should probably fold his clothes before doing anything else, lest he want wrinkles in them.

He sets the hamper down next to his futon and plops down atop the covers, mechanically going through the motions of his chore. Grab shirt, fold, set aside. Grab pants, fold, set aside. Set aside sweater to be hung up. The mindless activity is somewhat grounding, and Shouto allows his mind to become blissfully blank for a little while.

That is, until his fingers find a black t-shirt with a skull print on it.

Shouto holds the shirt up in front of him, examining it for a few long seconds—for what, he isn’t sure. He has half a mind to swap the shirt out for the one he’s currently wearing, just to feel Bakugou’s phantom hugs around him once again.

Sighing, he folds the shirt so that the skull is looking directly up at him when he sets it on the floor. It’s almost mocking him, spewing insults at him that have crossed Shouto’s mind more than once when he’s stuck in his depressive pitfalls. 

Cold, heartless wretch.

Miserable failure.

Worthless waste of space.

Not good enough, not good enough, not good enough…

Never. Good. Enough. 

Pursing his lips, he folds Bakugou’s sweatpants and sets them atop the shirt just to get the skull to shut up.

Now that his hamper is empty, Shouto drags himself up from the futon and pads over to the sliding door to his balcony. The second he heaves the door open, he’s greeted by a cold wind that stings with the promise of winter weather approaching. He steps onto the concrete with his bare feet, barely noticing the icy pricks of the stone on his skin. Once he reaches the railing, he grips the metal tightly with both hands and leans far enough over to get a glimpse of Bakugou’s balcony below.

In the dark, Shouto can see that the lights to Bakugou’s room are on. The yellowish tint bleeds out into the late evening blackness, and it’s all Shouto needs to make up his mind.

Dashing back into his room without even bothering to close the sliding door, Shouto grabs Bakugou’s clothes from his floor, slams his door shut as he leaves his room. He makes a beeline for the stairwell at the end of the fifth-floor hall.

He takes the steps two at a time, the pads of his feet smarting every time they collide with the floor. But Shouto doesn’t notice, doesn’t care one bit. He throws the door to the fourth floor open with nearly enough force to bang it into the wall, but it doesn’t faze him in the slightest. He continues on, his journey finally ending when he reaches Bakugou’s dorm room.

Shouto raps on the door with his knuckles as he tries to catch his breath, belatedly noticing he probably looks like a damn fool for rushing down here for no reason.

He tells himself it’s because he needs to return the borrowed clothes, but deep down, he knows he just wants to see Bakugou.

There’s some faint swearing on the other side of the door before it swings open, revealing Bakugou’s scowling face.

“The fuck are you doing here, half-n-half?” the blond asks almost accusingly, his red eyes searching Shouto up and down. “Why does it look like you just ran a damn marathon? Fix your fucking hair at least, for fuck’s sake.”

Shouto ignores Bakugou’s biting comments, wordlessly holding out his hands and presenting the clean clothes to his friend. 

Friend?

Friend. 

Bakugou raises a brow. “The fuck?”

“Your clothes,” Shouto says unhelpfully, swallowing around the lump that has suddenly appeared in his throat. “I washed them. No loser stink, I promise.”

Bakugou stares at him for a moment before barking out a laugh. Shouto’s heart catches in his chest. 

“Gonna take more than a few washes to get that fuckin’ smell out of ‘em,” Bakugou jokes before opening his door wider to let Shouto in. He gestures to his bed, where the covers have been pulled up and not a crease is in sight. “Just throw them there. If you wait for just a sec, I actually have something for you, too.”

Interest piqued, Shouto does as he’s told, stepping shyly into Bakugou’s room and dropping the clothes atop the bed. “Something...for me?” he asks, tilting his head in question.

“Don’t get so fucking excited, you shithead, it’s just your uniform that you left soaking on my carpet,” Bakugou says as he heads over to his chest of drawers, picking up a neatly folded UA uniform. 

Ah. So that’s where his clothes went, Shouto realizes.

“I even washed it for you, because I’m fucking nice like that,” Bakugou continues, coming over to Shouto and shoving the clean clothing against the taller boy’s chest.

But Shouto doesn’t take his clothes. Instead, he lets them drop to the floor and throws his arms around Bakugou.

“Oi! What the fuck!” Bakugou complains, his voice muffled by Shouto’s cardigan. His hands are spread wide at his sides, palms crackling with sparks waiting to explode.

Shouto just squeezes him tighter, wrenching his eyes shut and balancing his chin atop Bakugou’s head. His dandelion hair is soft against Shouto’s skin, and it smells like…like...

Burnt sugar.

“Thank you, Bakugou,” Shouto says.

“Jesus fuck, I only washed your clothes, no need to get all touchy-feely about it,” Bakugou says, and if Shouto isn’t mistaken, it sort of sounds like Bakugou is pouting.

That thought alone makes Shouto laugh, a quiet noise that barely brushes past his lips. 

But Bakugou seems to hear it well enough, and relaxes in Shouto’s grip as he turns his head to the side. His ear is right over where Shouto’s heart is thundering in his chest.

“You’ve done more than that. So much more,” Shouto says gratefully. 

Bakugou grunts in response, finally bringing his own arms up and wrapping them around Shouto’s more lithe frame.

“Why?” Shouto asks softly, a repeat of his question from last night.

Bakugou tenses in his arms, and Shouto can feel his rough hands fisting the thick fabric of his cardigan. “Don’t...don’t make me say it,” Bakugou mutters through gritted teeth, as if he’s trying to clamp his jaw shut tight enough to keep some forbidden truths from escaping.

Shouto still wants to know, but he doesn’t want to push Bakugou. Doing so would probably end in disaster, and he doesn’t want to let this moment end. Not quite yet.

“Alright,” Shouto concedes, squeezing Bakugou one final time before pulling back.

Bakugou won’t look at him when they separate, ruby red eyes trained on the floor where his socked feet are almost toe-to-toe with Shouto’s bare ones. Wordlessly, the blond kneels down and picks up Shouto’s uniform, now a crumpled mess on the floor.

“Great, look what you did,” Bakugou grouses, still crouched down, trying to smooth out some of the creases in the grey blazer. “And I even fucking ironed it for you, you ungrateful fuckwad.”

Shouto blinks dumbly, staring holes into the top of Bakugou’s head.

He...what?

“Here, now take your shit and get out,” Bakugou commands, standing up and thrusting Shouto’s clothes against his chest once more. This time, Shouto takes them and holds them almost reverently in his arms.

When Bakugou finally looks up at Shouto, something unexpected happens. Heat that Shouto hasn’t felt for the past few days suddenly courses through his veins like river rapids, searing his insides until he feels his skin turning red almost like a sunburn.

Oh, god, he’s…

Shouto summons every ounce of willpower he can muster to prevent himself from literally erupting into flames, nodding once to Bakugou before crossing to the door in a few long strides. The metal of the doorknob hisses when Shouto grabs it with his left hand, and he prays to whatever deities are listening that Bakugou doesn’t notice the smoke coming from his palm.

“Thank you again, Bakugou, for everything,” Shouto says once he’s stepped out into the hallway. To his surprise, Bakugou is standing in his doorway and holding his door open still, watching Shouto carefully, pursing his lips as if he has something to say.

“...Sure thing,” Bakugou finally says quietly. He takes a breath and opens his mouth to say something else, but stops before the words can escape him.

“Bakugou?” Shouto says.

Bakugou scowls, then, letting out a small growl as he slams the door shut in Shouto’s face.

And standing there alone in the hallway, hugging his uniform close to his chest and feeling warmer than ever before, Shouto smiles.

„All I´m trying to say is that in my opinion, Y/N has changed a lot these past few weeks and I really want to know why. Don´t you?“, Matt tried to reason with his wife as they were currently sitting on the couch in their living room. 

„Matt, she´s 16, okay? She´s a teenager in the middle of Highschool. Changes are normal. I don´t think that there´s a reason to panic just yet. Remember when we were in Highschool? We were the same.“, Kristy answered, trying to be as quiet as possible due to her younger kids already being asleep in their rooms upstairs. 

„I know, Kristy. But haven´t you noticed those weird changes in her behaviour? Like she comes home and immediatley locks herself up in her room. She barely Eats or sleeps. She became quieter than she already has been.“

„Matt, maybe you shoud try to profile our kids less. See, Y/N is just fine. We taught her that she can come to us if there is something bothering her. She knows that. There is nothing more we can do. We have to trust her and her decisions, okay?“, the woman tried to finally end this conversation with her husband, who gave up and sighed. 

„Fine..okay, but I will talk to her about it tomorrow. I need to.“, Matt said as he got up and held his hand out to his wife, „let´s head to bed, shall we?“

Kristy smirked and shook her head, but grabbed Matt´s hand anyway. She knew that Matt was quite overprotective of all their kids and she understood his reasoning. He saw the worst of people and what they were capable of everyday. But sometimes, she wished that he would just let things go. She sometimes missed those times earlier in their relationship when it was just them and Y/N, their eldest daughter, living in a small house. Matt had been a part of the Army and for sure had he been overprotective back than, but not that much. What Kristy also knew is that she wouldn´t get Matt to stop figuring this out. If he wanted to find something out, then he would do everything in his power to find it out. 

Yes, Kristy noticed the changes as well. She noticed that her daughter isolated herself more, that she had become skinnier and paler, that she was quieter and not that happy girl she used to be. Maybe blaming everything on puberty and Highschool was her way of dealing with the fact that something worse was going on and she had failed as a mother, because she hadn´t noticed it earlier. But now, it was too late and she could only pray that it really only is the stress of being an American teenager in the middle of HighSchool. Otherwise she could never forgive herself.

The next morning, Kristy had to leave earlier than usual due to an appointment at work. That left Matt alone at home with his kids. While the younger kids were already dressed and ready for the day, Y/N was still up in her room. Just as he was about to set their bowls of cereals down in front of them, Chloe asked: „Dad, where is Y/N?“. 

„I think she´s still up in her room, darling. She´ll be here in a minute.“, Matt explained to his daughter. 

„Y/N is weird.“, Jake said while munching his Lucky Charms. 

„How is Y/N weird? She´s your sister. Why would you say that?“, Matt asked. 

„She doesn´t play with us anymore, she´s only in her room. One day, Lily went upstairs and knocked at Y/N´s door, only to ask if she wanted to share a pot of ice Cream with her and instead of appreciating the gesture, she screamed at Lily to go away and leave her alone, before she slammed the door in her face and locked the door.“, Jake told his father, who got more and more concerend. So he was right, something was going on. Y/N would never behave like this towards her Younger siblings. She loved them to death; she enjoyed spending every free minute with them. This behaviour was so not her.

„Yes, she was really mean to me. I miss the old Y/N. The Y/N who always played and laughed with us. I don´t like the crumpy Y/N, the mean one.“, Lily said, a sad expression lingering on her face. 

„Dad, you´re FBI. Can´t you find out what´s going on with Y/N?“, David suggested as he drank his glass of water. 

„I´m trying, David. I´m gonna try and talk to her today, okay? You don´t need to worry about this.“, Matt tried to reassure his kids while he checked the watch, „Okay, ladies and gentlemen, you have to leave right now if you want to catch the school bus which will be here in 5 minutes.“

Suddenly, everyone rushed to get their breakfast done. They put their bowls away and put on their school bags when Matt opened the door, already seeing the bus arriving. 

„Okay, there comes the bus. I love you all. Have a great day at school! One last hug.“, Matt smiled as he opened his arms wide and hugged all of his four kids. 

„Bye Dad, we love you!“, the kids said in unisono before they ran off and into the bus. Matt waved them goodbye and waited until the bus was around the corner before he went back inside and closed the door. 

Returning to an empty kitchen, he again checked the clock and saw that Y/N´s bus arrives in 15 minutes and she still hasn´t been downstairs to have breakfast. 

„Y/N?“, Matt screamed, „Y/N, are you up?“

He waited a little while for a reply, but never got one.

„Y/N? Are you up? You have to leave in 15.“, he said again, this time as he was about to climb up the stairs to his daughters room. 

Matt knocked at the door: „Y/N..can I come in?“. It was then, that he heard noises behind the closed door. He was about to knock again, when the door flew open. In front of him stood a pale, tired Y/N, her hair made up in a messy bun. She was wearing a shirt which was way too big for her and a sport leggings, combined with her checkboard vans. 

„Is everything okay?“, Matt asked Y/N as he checked her over. 

„Yeah..why wouldn´t it be?“, Y/N answered annoyed. It was than that Matt noticed the dark circles underneath her eyes as well as the light purple bruises on her arms. 

„You don´t look fine. Can you please finally talk to me?“

Y/N rolled her eyes and moved passed her father and down the stairs, where she made herself a coffee in her To-Go cup. 

„Y/N…please. I´m worried. We all are. Your siblings even think that there is something going on with you. Please, you know you can talk about everything with us. We just want to help.“, Matt pleaded with his daughter. 

„I don´t need your help, Dad. If there´s a problem, I can solve it alone. School is just pretty stressful at the moment with all the exams and quizzes, okay? Nothing more, nothing less.“, Y/N agrued as she grabbed her coffee and bag before heading towards the door. 

„What about breakfast? Did you have a look at yourself in the mirror, Y/N? You´re getting skinnier eachday and what about those bruises on your arms? Is someone hurting you, princess? Please..“, Matt was about to say, but got interrupted by his daughter. 

„For god´s sake, back off Dad. Everything is fine, I can solve my problems alone. I´m a big girl, okay.“, Y/N yelled as she opened the door, „I´m off to school. Love you!“, and with that, Y/N disappeared and left behind an even more concerened Matt.

„And what did she say again when you confronted her?“, Luke wanted to know. After the incident with his oldest daughter, Matt had to go to work, thankfully it´s only been a paperwork day so far. Luke, Matts best friend and co-worker, sensed that something must be wrong with the father of 5 so he pressured him into talking to him about it. Soon, they were joined by the rest of the team. 

„She said that basically everything´s fine and that school is stressful and all that normal stuff you would say.“, Matt sighed as he leaned back into his chair. 

„But you don´t believe her, don´t you?“, Tara asked. 

„No, I can´t believe this lie. Like does stress cause you purple bruises up your arm? I mean I get that if she´s stressed that she might loose weight or that she sleeps less, but those bruises were bad.“, Matt reasoned. 

„Did you tell Kristy about it?“, Emily joined into the conversation. 

„Yes, we talked yesterday about it and she thinks that it´s normal teenager behavior and that Y/N would come to us if she´s in trouble or else. She just thinks I´m reading too much into it and that I´m too overprotective. I mean I am, but my gut tells me that there is something going on which isn´t good at all. I just wish she would trust me enough to talk to me about it. I mean I only want to help her.“

„I don´t think it´s about trust.“, Rossi said, „I think she trusts you a lot which is why she doesn´t want to bother you with her problems. She knows that you have a lot to do and worry about for yourself so it´s normal that she doesn´t want to bother you with her problems which is absolutley wrong thinking.“

„But she´s not a bother to me and Y/N knows this. I rather prefer her talking about her problems with me and letting me help her solve them than having her to carry them all alone. What kind of a Dad am I if I can´t help my own child?“, Matt exclaimed and got up to get some air. 

Luke was about to get up and follow his friend when Rossi held him back. 

„Let him go. Give him some time, he needs it.“

„And he needs a friend.“, Luke argued. 

„Yes, he does. When he comes back. Not right now, right now, he needs to be alone and sort his thoughts out. We should give him some time and get back to work.“, Emily said and with that, everyone returned to their desks.

Around 15 minutes later, Matt returned to his desk as well to get some work done when his cell phone started to ring. He check the caller ID and with a frown, he picked up the phone. 

„Simmons?…Yes, it´s him…..What?…Where?..How could this happen?….Okay, I´m on my way right now….No, I´m gonna call my wife myself, thank you.“, and with that, Matt hang up und got up to go to Emily´s office, where he knocked at the door.

„Come in.“, the voice from inside said, „Matt, hey. Are you alright?“

„Ahm, yeah about that. I need to head over to Y/N`s school.“, the agent muttered. 

„Sure, everything okay?“, the unit chief asked concerned. 

„I don´t know yet. The principal just called me and said that Y/N has been hurt and that we should come pick her up as soon as possible. I don´t know exactly what happened yet, but I need to go over there soon.“

„Of course, go. Shall someone of us come with you? Do you need anything?“

„No, I´m good. I´m gonna call Kristy from the car and inform her. Is it okay if I take this day off?“

„No worries, we´ve got you covered. Take as much time as you need.“, Emily said and gave the worried man a smile which he returned. 

„Thank you, Em. I´ll let you know when I know what´s up.“, and with that, Matt rushed out of the building to his car.

„Hi, I´m Matt Simmons. I got a call from Principal Richards a few minutes ago about my daughter, Y/N Simmons. She got hurt and I was supposed to come pick her up as soon as possible.“, Matt explained as he finally arrived at the secretary´s office. While waiting for a reply, he kept looking around, in search for his daughter. 

„Let me check in with the principal.“, the secretary said as she got up and into the principals office, which she exited again a few minutes later. 

„Principal Richards wants to see you before you can go to pick up your daughter.“, the secretary said and led Matt towards the office where Principal Richards was already waiting for the father. 

„Agent Simmons, please take a seat.“, the man greeted Matt and showed him where to sit. 

„What happened with my daughter? Is she okay?“, Matt wanted to know. 

„Y/N is fine or as fine as one can be after she´s been beaten up by a few of her fellow students.“

„I´m sorry, what?“

„Ms. Laney, Y/N´s French teacher was walking out of her classroom when she saw a group of students kicking another student who was laying helplessly on the ground. She immediatley seperated the group and called other teachers for help. We don´t know what got into the teenagers but we believe that this is going on for a long time.“

„How could this happen? Why didn´t you do something against this earlier?“, the agent said, frustrated and still concerned about his daughters wellbeing. 

„Agent Simmons, we´re very sorry that we didn´t take notice of those students behaviors before, but we´re a rather big Highschool, you can´t notice everything that is going on here. Ms. Laney tried to talk to Y/N, but she didn´t tell her a thing. We hope that you or your wife might get through to her, so we can give those students the punishments they deserve because we don´t want bullies at our school. I already suspended them from school for the next three weeks.“

„I´m gonna go and try my best with Y/N but I can´t promise you anything. I tried to talk to her about this before, because I noticed that something was wrong with her, but she keeps quiet about it.“, Matt answered and sighed as he got up, „Thanks for informing me, Principal Richards. I´ll let you know what she said as soon as I talked to her.“

„No worries, Agent Simmons. Take your time talking to her. We really hope she´ll get better soon. We´re here to help, if you need anything.“, Principal Richards said as he took Matt´s hand and shook it, „Ms. Mable will bring you to your daughter now.“ 

With one last nod, Matt said goodbye to the principal and left his office, determined to finally find out what has been going on with his daughter.

The car ride home went awefully quiet. Neither Y/N nor Matt dared to say a word. Y/N was busy looking outside the window. She knew that as soon they would be home, her parents would want to talk to her about everything. She really didn´t want to talk about it, but then again, she needed to and she was sick of bottling everything up inside her. Y/N just wanted this nightmare to be over. She really thought that she could solve those problems on her own, but she couldn´t and she had to admit that she has been wrong. 

After what felt like an eternity, Matt and Y/N finally arrived home. Matt exited the car first and opened the door for his daughter, who thanked him with a nod. As they entered the house, Y/N noticed how quiet it was and she knew what that meant: her mom and her siblings were out of the house so her father could have THE talk with her. Guess there was now no way around it this time. 

„Are you hungry?“, Matt asked his daughter as he made his way towards the kitchen. 

„No, not really. Thanks though.“, Y/N replied as she let herself fall into the couch, cuddling a pillow close to her chest. 

Matt sighed. He really did not know how to get through to her. 

„You were right, you know.“, Y/N suddenly interrupted his thoughts. 

„Sorry?“, he asked as he walked towards where his daughter was sitting. 

„You were right, all the time. You and Mom, Jake, David, Lily, Chloe…everyone was right the whole time, I-I just…I-I couldn´t talk about it.“, Y/N stuttered as she turned herself towards her father who sat next to her on the couch.

„You know you can tell me anything, princess.“, Matt tried to reassure his daughter. 

„I know, Dad. I know that, but what I don´t know is why I didn´t come to you in first place.“

„Tell me what´s going on. Please, I just wanna help.“

Y/N took a deep breath before she started to explain. 

„I guess it all started in Sophomore Year. Like I don´t actually know what led it on, really. But anyway, there is this group of teenagers, Seniors actually. They always would find something to annoy me with. At first, they would make rude comments in the hallway. Then it turned into harassing outside of school and during breaks where they pushed me against walls and stuff. They were always so rude and mean a-and I just felt so helpless.“, Y/N said as she choked back a sob. 

„Honey..“, Matt tried but got interrupted by his daughter. 

„No, Dad. Let me finish first..please.“, Y/N mumbled, gathering all her courage to continue explaining, „they posted fake news about me on the internet which made my friends turn away from me and the whole school was talking about me. They forced me to do things with them, criminal things sometimes. They forced me to steal tests which they were supposed to take the other day. Today…it hasn´t been the first time they hit and kicked me. It happened multiple times. The only difference to today was that I had enough this morning and confronted them. I wanted them to tell me why the hell they chose me as their victim. I-I didn´t do anything wrong. I don´t bother anyone and I-I leave everyone alone. I just don´t get why people can be so mean to eachother without knowing eachother really well..Well, at first they laughed at me, spat on me. They pushed me around like I´m their toy or whatever. And when I started to defend myself, they began to Hit and kick me and the rest you know.“

Matt was quiet. He never would have thought that this would be the reason for Y/N´s changes. He was in shock. 

Carefully, he took Y/N´s hand in his before he gathered himself. 

„Why the hell didn´t you tell me?“, he wanted to know. He was so confused. His little girl shouldn´t have to go through all this alone. He was mad, not at Y/N. At himself and those bullies who made the life of his daughter so much worse. 

„I-I don´t know Dad. I-I guess I was just so scared. Like what would have happened if they would have found out that I told you? They wouldn´t have stopped, it only would have gotten worse. Also I didn´t really want to bother Mom and you with my bullshit. You have enough to do with the twins and work and..“

„But you matter too. Your life matters to me, to us. This is not okay and I want them to pay for what they did to you. Principal Richards already suspended them, but to me, that´s not enough.“

„Dad..“

„No, listen to me. They need to pay for what they did. They need to learn to be responsible for the actions they take. It´s not okay to bully someone, to harass, kick or hit someone. Reason or not, it´s not acceptable and they need to learn this lesson the painful way. I´m just sorry you had to go through all this alone. I really need you to Understand that no matter what you can always talk to Mom and me, okay? We were so worried about you.“

„But I-I needed to protect you.“, Y/N sobbed. 

„Oh Princess.“, Matt sighed as he hugged his daughter very close, „I´m proud of the fact that you did all this to protect us. But nevertheless, you matter to okay? Don´t you forget about this!“

Y/N nodded as she finally let all her emotions out and felt safe enough to let the tears spill over. All the past few days, days full of pain, fear, but also anger, were catching up on her and now she finally felt safe enough to show her weaker side. The one, she always tried to hide from her family. 

Matt tried everything to soothe his daughter, to take her pain away. He knew that it would be a long road ahead of them, but he was ready and willing to go it with her. No matter what.

N/A: Kitty has no idea who Creepy is. I´m taking this as a continuation from the last Amalgam! Verse.

After that night, Kitty Pryde/Columbina manages to see a lot more of Kurt Ryder and Creepy. Is true that Kitty wants to know who the Creepy is, and goes as far as to fly all around New Gotham to see if she could spot the Green wacko, but, there´s nothing indicating he is there.

Columbina is flying one more time tonight, just to make sure she didn´t miss the Green Wacko, once again, she didn´t spot him anywhere, yet, she notices something different.

A typical villain of the week who is threating to blow the building, Columbina overheard that the detectives don´t understand what lead the calm Dr Sanders to went insane, which to be fair, should be something that would be pretty obvious by now.

Columbina is not a hero and could leave, but, she is bored tonight and decides to do something. Poor crazy Dr Sanders he never got a chance against Columbina.

"Columbina!" Kurt Ryder speaks amused and Columbina wonders where this man pops up, then again, she only notices the huge crown now.

Really? An insane Dr has a gun and people are here to look? Only in New Gotham indeed.

"Well, you´re not Wrong" she jokes and Kurt Ryder chuckles at this. "How did you find out Dr Sanders´s plan?"

Columbina is still hovering in the air and let the man wait in curiosity until she confesses. "I didn´t know jack shit. I look at him and notice he look as is girlfriend break up with him and lol behold is what happened, just that"

Kurt Ryder ponders for a moment. "Are you the greatest detective alive or a seer?"

"Well, if you are the greatest detective alive...maybe I´m a seer, who knows?" and winks at him and flies away. Missing the fact Kurt Ryder is smiling way too amused.

Kitty Pryde does not have to worry about the program now. They are in well-deserved vacation time and people don´t seem to mind the reruns and Kitty could use that time to do anything else...but her curiosity is too much.

"Uhm, who are you, Creepy?" she said biting her nail and looking at the photos in front of her.

"I´m me, dear Katzchen!" Creepy peak climbing in her window and once again wearing almost nothing. The man has an insane smile on his face and greets Kitty in his usual way.

Kitty is not afraid of the man, even if the rest of the neighbours are more than ready to kill him if he so much makes Kitty sherd a tear(yeah, she is strangely well-liked by ex-villains and ex-vigilant here)

"Creepy! Why can´t you enter like a normal person?"

"Katzchen, I´m Nightcreeper I don´t do doors" and laughs maniacally at his own joke and Kitty covers her ears, her neighbour told to Creepy to shut up.

"What are you doing?"

"Trying to see who is you, Creepy!" she exclaims and the man only smiles wild "but no success, oh, Creepy...can´t you just tell me who you are?"

"NOPE"

Kitty is bemused at that. "Then, can I show you off to Ryder? Oh, he would be so jealousy...and he would feel so dumb, Creepy he thinks you are not real"

Creepy snickers "someone will feel dumb indeed"

Columbina manages to find his house pretty quickly and she thanks the social media and Ryder´s sluttiness to allowed her to find this place, his place, and Columbina is looking at his fancy house.

He has a good life.

"Columbina, funny to see a heroine at this hour" Ryder is there drinking wine and is offering a goblet to Columbina. "What I can do for you?"

"I..." he is taking this too well and Columbina needs to assert dominance here. "I need your help, you´re arrogant, but, also one of the best detectives ever"

Kurt Ryder is smiling and his eyes do resemble a tad bit of Creepy, which is odd. "If that is about.. your imaginary friend the Creepy..."

"I need your help to find laboratory 23" and with her reply this makes Kurt Ryder stop smiling and is caught on surprise, thankfully, the man did an article about the lab...said lab was set on fire under mysterious circumstances.

And once Ryder gives the information Columbina leaves and Ryder was sure that this is not how he was planning.

"Well, you haven´t slept around for a while, if they jump to this conclusion ...this would help too" she said and looks at him stronger "Ryder...I think I know who is Nightcreeper, but, first, I need to know, are you into men?"

"Then the only explanation for that is that you are Nightcreeper"

"...." Kurt Ryder looks at Kitty as she crosses her arms "Well, it took you long enough and really you thought I was interested in Nightcreeper?"

Entry Analysis

In a bizarre fluke of fate, Lithuania has become my favourite countries of the Baltics for three years in a row O__O. I can hardly believe myself! In this year it’s mostly because Latvia and Estonia sort of suck, and not because of Lithuania’s own merits though. 🤐

Actually, the thing I like most about the entry is the Artist Formerly Known As Jurijus: Jurij Veklenko. He is BY FAR the hottest guy in the year for me (😍) and appears to have an irritating, but well-meaning and humorous personality (😍😍), who is also a notable Gay-curious Icon (😍😍😍) and voiced Lolita Zero’s ‘Get Frighten’ (😍😍😍😍) and who is an obnoxious insta whore on top of that, posting covers of other ESC entries, in all of which he is ‘miraculously’ shirtless (😍😍😍😍😍)  I’m mean, I’m bloody sold? Shut up and take my unmentionables!!

The song however... eh. It doesn’t nearly set my world on fire in the same way Jurij ~as a human~ does.  It’s okay. Some parts are *really* good imo. It has cool verses, I enjoy the empowering message (especially because it’s an implied LGBT Support Anthem: ‘We got a love that can’t be caged’, mhm)

However, “Run with the lions” is let down by one of the most weaksauce choruses in this year. I know people complain about “Roi” and “Wake Up” but... “Run with the lions” unravels at the first chorus, and never recovers. As MUCH as I would a love which can’t be caged, I must let my feelings out and state that I’m only lukewarm to this entry as a whole 😭

Qualification Odds: Borderline (Disadvantaged)

Lol I have to remember I’m discussing Jurijus here, but okay, back on track. My assessment for Lithuania’s chances is a bit all over the place: First off, this semifinal should be an easy qualification on paper: Jurijus is a cute guy who sings well, and all of Lithuania’s Allies (Latvia, Azerbaijan) and diasporia havens (UK, Ireland, Norway) are present, with only Poland and Estonia being stranded in the other semifinal. 

However, this is where “Run with the lions” and its weak chorus come to gnaw at Lithuania’s qualification odds: Lithuania find themselves hopelessly outclassed by better songs in their half of the semifinal which target the same demograph. Russia have a better coming out anthem. Romania have a better dark poprock song. Their draw, which pits they right between Malta (a dark horse) and Russia (a possible Semi winner) is very, VERY unfortunate as well. If you’re between two strong songs, you need at least keep pace with the level of quality and Lithuania does not. Q. So, tl;dr: while Lithuania should theoretically be able to gather enough points for qualification, the only vote they really have are the built-in diasporia votes and that may not prove enough. If this were another country, this would be considered an easy NQ  (or at least BL in case of Sweden or Russia). Jurijus needs to hope that one of the other BL countries, specifically Albania and Malta bomb out. Sadly for him, Jonida Maliqi doesn’t do mediocre. Sorry JuriPoo. 😭

Projected placement: 9th-12th in the semifinal. If he qualifies, 20th-25th in the Grant Final.

He was kind. He was awesome. He was someone I could cuddle up to after a long day. Holding me close, in between his arms, pulling my pig tails ever so slightly making sure I don't hurt my neck. He would make me my favourite hot chocolate and tell a silly, old dad joke that my seven year old self would not fully understand but laugh anyway. He was a person I was proud to call 'appa'.

Then the sudden switch. I still remember it like it was yesterday. 23 November 1:07. That was when my little sister, Lee Minha put her place on earth and felt the cold air and blinding lights from the hospital, of course she cried like any other baby but at that moment I felt like she was saying 'take me back' which I don't blame her for. That day was also the day I had to say bye to my mother as well. My mother was small in size and very weak, so  when she was giving birth to Minha, her body gave in. She had a smile on her face though, I think she was happy at the fact that Minha got to live but if she saw how we were living now she would have second thoughts.

Stress overtook my dad, I mean, if I has to look after a new born baby without my partner I would also feel very pressured. Additionally, his income cannot support the whole family, we had to ask for help a lot, the stress influenced his drinking habits. He wasn't happy, he missed her, we all did. It was a regular thing now, go work come home late drunk, finds something to complain about, goes to his room, lays on his bed and ends up dozing of. Wakes up the next morning with a headache, complains, washes up, what does he do? you guessed it, complains and then finally leaves for work.

When I have school, my grandmother comes to look after Minha, I don't think  I could live without her to be honest. With her, I feel like I actually have a mum. When my grandpa passed away, it was hard for my grandma, but mostly my mother. My grandpa was a very special person to my mum. He was a kinda dad that even princess would desire for, his sense of humour could have you laughing for days, even I would look up and catch my dad smiling sometimes. Everyone loved grandad. We were more shocked then sad; nobody wanted to believe he was actually gone.

My mother cried for days, weeks even. She stopped eating and become very thin. This was the time Minha was due. We lost two people we loved that year. I guess dad couldn't take it and let alcohol take control. That's one of the reasons why Minha is very important to me, I don't want her growing up and thinking she was the reason why mother died, even though dad may despise her for it, I will protect her. I wanted to work harder, become stronger, study so I can help grandma and Minha, in the future I want to move to America with them and keep them under my wings forever. Run far away from dad, from school where I pretend to be happy and someone i'm not, move away from this pathetic country called Korea. They deserve the world and I was going to give it to them.

"Yah! Why haven 't you put Minha to bed yet? huh?" "She's not a toy you brat!" My grandma said while mocking my dad. Me, playing along, replied " ishhh can't anyone do anything properly in this house?" while over exaggerating the way he walks towards his room. Grandma laughed at my stupid acting, even though it wasn't that funny, you could tell she was desperate to change the mood. That's what I love about grandma, we're not happy, yet she still tries to make our days better. Grandmas are the best.

I rarely read fanfic with a rating below Mature, and yet as luck would have it, I rediscovered a gem that, once more, brought me to tears and still brought so much pleasure to my soul that I had to follow by another surprising lil fic that allowed me to get myself back together and ready to face the world ღ  ღ  ღ

The first story is called Don’t Ask, don’t Tell by the gifted Dodger_Winslow who has given the Superntaural fandom many of the best family oriented stories one could hope in the pre-series canon. This particular story is based on the simple premise that the young Winchester brothers somehow offhanded ask their father if the family car ever caught fire and he could only save one of them who would it be? It’s a dumb question my own kids asked me but the way the chapters roll through that fic development will break your heart and rebuild it, and get you to pose and reconsider so many things and make these new resolutions to go forward in such a way, it should be required reading even if you are not in that fandom. The writing is just superb! The trials rings true, the love shine beautifully and yes it is also heartbreaking in its dramatic development. I cried like a baby, got a headache and still have no regret for having the opportunity to enjoy this wonderful creative work.

The second story was almost like a slip of the finger, I wanted to feel better, more upbeat, in dire need of smut, and nope. I clicked on Duke Crocker does not get Sick by the inspired  Serendipity  This fic was the perfect length to remind me why I really like the main characters of the TV show Haven. I am fairly aware of the fact that many shows do not have their characters suffer from illness as common and time stealing as the cold or the flu, I also understand that there is a whole section of fandom specializing in Hurt/Comfort fics in which I will dive one day as soon as I take a break from smut, at least I promised myself lol.  Thanks to this perfect fic, I might get reading Gen fics much sooner than I thought. Duke is sick, and like many of us he is miserable, fairly certain no one cares and even confident no-one would help. Audrey and Nathan finally catch up with him though and the fic stay so true to characters, to their approach of life, to how each of them does need that glimmer of humanity, no matter how imperfect it could be, from the others that it brings a smile to your weary mind, reconnect you to those near and far that you care about and keep you in their minds. 

Maybe I see too much in it, but both fics allowed me to not just consume things in a harried way (a bit like liking stuff on social media or sites such as deviant art and AO3 or fanfic.net) but to actually let them settle in my soul and becoming meaningful. At some point being there for Duke was, you would all guess, a great balm to the heart of Duke, but it was also an opportunity for Audrey to show that she may be on a timetable and rushed by circumstances but she still loves these two and even though it can be hard to express it (Nathan and us are in that boat as well), it is worth taking the time for these small gestures because they do create those cherished long-lasting memories...

Battles Over Come!!!

It's been quite some time since I've been on here, I used to have a huge fan base which I loved and now it's shattered down to 183. I guess I could blame myself for not being so interested into posting things anymore however, I am going to work on that. So for my first post back I am going to be talking about the battles I've been facing over the past six months.

Back in November I was told that I would have to move from my home. The reason being the people who owned it sold it out from under us (We we're renting). We had hoped the new owners would allow us to rent or maybe even rent to own. However they refused to allow it, so we had to find a place as soon as we possibly could. That is when the real battles began, I struggled at keeping up my faith and believing everything was going to be fine, my first concern was my daughter all the way through the process of finding a new place. About January we found a place not even five minutes from where we we're living with such an amazing yard, in side space, a garage port, a storage building and so much more. My favorite item about my new home is the frong porch swing. It's where I spend 99% of my time when available!

After moving into my place I had gotten everything situated and organized, once all of that was done me and my daughter was playing around one evening just wrestling and having a good ole time. Until I felt something super strange in my stomach when I began to hurt...I freaked out right away and went straight to the emergency room. The first hospital I visited didn't even do any tests beside's a urine test and a blood test. Other than that they gave me pain medication and sent me on my way. This frustraited me but I also thought well if it was major they would have done something about it or at least that is what I thought. This went on for about a couple months until I was in so much pain my boss, sent me to the after hours clinic because, she couldn't bare to see me in so much pain. They done a few tests and sent me straight to another hospital. I had to choose out of two different one's even though both we're extremely far off by two hours or more. Either way, I went and got there and had to go through the emergency area to get seen.

That night they diagnosed me with an inflammed lymp noid. I believed them until they referred me to another doctor who said it was not that. Described to me that it's in my abdominal wall...meaning it was something but she wasn't sure of what. Her concerns we're cancer or a tumer. I was scared and nervous wasn't sure how to take this all in. So over the amount of time of waiting to see another doctor my only vehicle went out, as well as my job is falling apart. Hour's are lowering and people may not have a job to come to soon. Depending on the amount of scripts we need to do to catch up. Anyway, for a while I was being taken to and from work and doctor's appointments by my mother-n-law which was causing her quite some issues on the count of needing to be home and having plains. But we did the best we can to make it work.

So a few weeks ago, I decided it was time for me to get myself back into church. I was scared and worried about what other's we're gonna think considering I haven't been to church in about three years or more. The service was pretty great I felt God pushing me in that service to speak and so I spoke a small testamony to those there that day. It was the story about how blessed I was to have had my daughter, considering there was a huge possibility of losing her, I ended up having to have a c-section due to saving her life. Once that church service was over, I went home and relaxed with my family and just enjoyed the rest of the day which reminds me that day was "Mother's Day" :D.

The next day I got a call from my doctor with my biopsy results that I had just went and got done a couple weeks prior. He explained he didn't see any point of me coming back to his office for him to see me considering I did not have cancer nor did I have a tumer. But I was diagnosed with Endometrosis. It's not something that goes away nor is it treatable...so I am waiting to see the doctor in about nine days to see what the doctor wants to do about this situation. But that wasn't the only amazing new's I got that day, I had called about getting a possible car because, I hate relying on anyone to get me from and to work. I want to be able to take myself without having to mess anyone's plains...

I got a call back saying he had a car for me for 182 a month, year 2016, with only 33,000 miles on it. It still has up to five year warrenty or up to 60,000 miles on it. So I decided when I got the phone call I was gonna go and see what I could do about getting this vehicle. Yet, that wasn't the only amazing news I got. The doctor also explained that I have insurance through his hospital until September of this year so that right there was amazing news. The news kept going and going it was going so wonderful...even up to the point of going and looking at my Hyandi Accent :D. It's beautiful four doors, white, and so nice inside. No damage anywhere...my father-n-law approved, husband approved, mother-n-law approved, as well as some other's. I got the car and let me say I am so blessed to own a car that is basically new. It's the newest I've ever owned.

Lol, on that note the basic information of this post is this. I don't have cancer, or a tumor, but I do have Endo. My car broke down but I was blessed with a new one. I have insurance through my hospital so no more hospital bills. One more thing I forgot to mention I have an interview tomorrow at a new job to hope that I get it so that way I don't have to worry about losing my job. I need this....and I am going to give it to God and let him decide if that is where he wants me to be or not. I'm just so happy with things and how amazing it's all going. :D I promise to keep updating everyone if anyone is interested and I hope you all have an amazing Memorial Day. God Bless America.

Feeling something press against his cheek, Noctis groaned and swatted at the finger, rolling away and curling up further into his sleeping bag. He heard a frustrated sigh and a slim hand patted the lump that he was under covers, finding his shoulder after a moment and giving him a shake. "What is it, Luna...?" he asked with a quiet groan.

"Noctis, we cannot be doing this every morning..."

"Me 'n' mornin's don' get along...," he mumbled, slowly straightening to come out from where he hid. He sat up and sighed, rubbing his eyes with his forearm. Stifling a yawn against the inside of his elbow, he blinked and belatedly realized that Luna was still simply sitting there beside him, watching with a concerned expression. "...Wha's that look for?"

"I always thought everyone was exaggerating about you and sleep... It's not something that's been lingering from your injury as a child, is it?"

"Huh? No, 've always been like this. Even before. Don't worry about it, Luna. Trust me, plenty of people have, and doctors have said I'm fine. If it was that, Lady Sylva would've healed it away, right?"

"You did require multiple healings, Noctis... Perhaps you still need more."

He reached out and patted the top of her head, earning an annoyed pout for his grin that went with it, "I'm fine, Luna. Really. Gimme a few more days to get on this new schedule 'fore you start worrying so much, huh?"

Her shoulders relaxed at that, and she nodded, "You're right. I wasn't thinking about that part of it..."

Gladio's deep voice called from outside the tent, "Should we send a chaperone in?"

Rolling his eyes at the tease, Noct called out frustrated, "We're not children, Gladio!"

"Ho? That mean you're up to something?"

"We're not, but either way, we don't need you watching over us!"

Luna covered her mouth as she laughed at Noctis' flushed face and clear irritation. "Well, it is past time we get going. Hurry and get changed so we can set out."

"Don't I get breakfast?"

"You can eat and walk at the same time," she called out over her shoulder with a grin, holding the tent flap open. She saw his shoulders fall as she zipped the tent closed between them, and she giggled quietly before telling him through the canvas, "I'm joking, Noctis. Ignis just finished cooking breakfast."

"May the Astrals have mercy on me, because the next Oracle never will...," he complained with humor in his voice.

They made quick work of breakfast, anxious to set out and make the most of their time in case there were any unexpected set-backs. They knew once they had set into a more solid routine and had a better feel of how long everything took, the morning anxiety would go away. But with daemons roaming the nights and no havens between the one they were at and the town they were headed to, it was best to be sure things would go well.

Once they got some distance from the outpost, Ignis gave Noct the short version of the morning update Gladio and Prompto had picked up while the prince slept. There wasn't much to tell, but it was good to take in the info. Noctis was keenly aware that this was his time to impress upon his people that he would take care of them when his turn came, that he was listening and acting and not just putting in a token effort. And he did want to do his absolute best by them, he just hated the dry information that came with the job, even if he was good at memorization when he set himself to it.

They hadn't been walking too long when they came to an area with a path cutting up through stone and away from the road. "It's up there," Ignis stated, adjusting his glasses. Prompto picked up his camera and snapped a shot of the path from where they stood. "It shouldn't be too far," he added on, though it was hard to be sure when the sharp incline and foliage kept visibility short.

"Alright, let's go." Noct started up the path ahead of the group, feeling they had all been waiting for him to make this first step, and they weren't even at the tomb yet. Leading the way up, the ground underfoot was beginning to even out when Gladio edged his way back into the front to take point. Coming out to a clearing, it was a dead end, surrounded by sheer cliffsides, and the tomb stood at the rear of the clearing.

Approaching the door, Noctis pulled out the key that Cor had handed him before they had left, and he opened up the tomb. It was chill inside, all cold stone, and he walked up to the statue of his dead ancestor clutching his weapon. Looking over the area, Noctis took in a deep breath, aware of how closely everyone watched him, interested to see what would happen. In a way, he hoped it was flashy, or else everyone was going to be sorely disappointed.

Holding out his hand over the weapon, he called to it, and a blue flash briefly blinded everyone. Noctis was the first to recover his sight, and he watched as the glow separated from metal and held the form of the blade. He looked up, the spectral sword hovering in air and then turning to point at him. It pierced into him, not in flesh but in soul, becoming a part of him.

All in a rush he could feel it, the things his ancestor had accomplished for Lucis, the things important to him.

He was a Wise man, used the power of the Crystal to build a magic wall around the kingdom. It kept daemons from appearing, kept the people safe as towns were built up, homes made without rush and fear of the night, lighting set up to keep everyone safe in the future. It had diminished his life span greatly, he had been unable to see for himself the safe future that he had built. But had he not done that, Lucis would have been unable to go so far technologically as it had. It was something Noctis knew about, the wall having only come down in his grandfather's time as the goals had at last been reached. But he had never really considered before how that king might have felt when he sacrificed his own life, and the lives of his child and grandchild and then some, for the future of the People. The Wise King of Lucis gave All for the future of his citizens, planning generations in advance.

Covering his chest, Noctis looked in awe at the statues lining the walls, representing kings of the past. His legacy would be so much more than he ever thought. What story would his blade tell the future kings? That was something he still needed to decide, and he pressed his lips together and gave a solemn nod. Turning around, he had actually forgotten his audience while caught up in the moment, and he forced a smirk to cover up how enthralled he had been by the experience. "Well, that's done. Time to get the next one."

"Right then," Ignis turned, leading the way out of the tomb and leaving any discussion until later.

The others followed suit, Luna hanging behind until Noctis took his first step towards the door. She reached out to him, her hand shimmering gold, and Noctis reached up to grab her hand before she touched it to his chest, and he shook his head, keeping his voice low, "None of that, now, Luna. I don't need healing for every little thing."

"Now who's trying to prove a point..."

He smirked and gave a slight tug on her hand, turning her away from him and towards the door, giving her a gentle shove, "No point here, there's just nothing for you to do. Come on."

None of them were quite sure which trek had been worse, climbing up the steep hill or trying not to tumble back down. Prompto ran the last several meters down and then some, almost crashing into the rockface opposite the narrow trail. Holding his camera protectively, he looked up to everyone still picking their way down and he laughed, cheerfully brushing off his near accident, "No more steep hills, agreed?"

"I doubt we'll have a choice," Gladio grinned, getting to flat ground with the least amount of trouble.

"Yes, there's a lot in this area, I'm afraid. And Duscae isn't much better, with the damage from the Astral Wars," Ignis explained, making Prompto wilt as he was faced with the truth.

"On the plus side, it's good a leg workout," Noctis added, lightly jogging down the last bit as he found it easier. Getting to the bottom, he looked over at Luna, using her staff to safely navigate the steep grade. "...Or I guess next time we could ask the Lady of Tenebrae for some tips..."

She laughed at that, sliding her staff into its sling on her back. "Yes, you do learn quickly there, how not to go tumbling down hills."

"Oh, really? What's Tenebrae like?" Prompto asked with genuine interest as they continued up the path towards the town.

"There's many heavily forested hills and mountains, and waterfalls. Very beautiful, but it is difficult to get around."

"Wow. Sounds amazing, I'd love to be able to see it someday."

"It's on the itinerary," Noctis smirked, looking over at his friend.

"No kidding? Alright!"

"This would be the first time for all of you except Noctis, wouldn't it?"

"Last time Noct went was a month before I was officially assigned as his guard instead of just his trainer."

"Yes, and they've never brought any junior staff along, either, so I've never been."

"Really?" Prompto was surprised, they were always with Noctis, he didn't think the prince was ever without them at his side anymore.

Noctis rubbed the back of his neck and thought about it a moment, "Ahh, yeah, I guess that's right, isn't it. We always did go with as little staff as possible. Only reason I would go with Dad was to see Luna anyways, so having them with me would've been pointless."

"Hey," Gladio grumbled in mock offense.

Smirking at that, Noctis shrugged, "Sorry, Gladio. Not the way I meant it."

"I should hope not...," Ignis added.

"Oh come on, you know what I meant!"

"Yeah, that you didn't want any chaperones," Gladio smirked.

Noctis groaned and covered his face, shaking his head and wishing they would leave well enough alone with the jokes. It was bad enough those times he was teased about Luna when she wasn't right there beside him having to bear it with him. "Will you let that go?" he asked, exasperated.

"Eventually."

"At least for Luna's sake, if not for mine."

"Alright, for the lady."

Rolling his eyes and shaking his head, Noctis huffed quietly and glanced over to Luna. Flashing her an apologetic smile, he shrugged, "Sorry..."

"It's alright, Noctis. You've nothing to apologize for."

"You're right... Hey! Gladio!"

"What?" he asked gruffly, feigning irritation.

"Apologize to Luna!"

"Sorry, Lady Lunafreya, that our prince just hit puberty."

"Gladio!" Growling quietly, Noct went to kick the man in his back, though it was easily dodged. Gladio smirked and waved at him, then jogged further ahead. "Insubordinate jerk!"

Prompto was snickering and trying to keep out of sight so Noct's indignant anger wouldn't get turned on him, though he failed. Ignis chuckled quietly and turned to look at Luna, "I guess we've all gotten comfortable now. I hope it doesn't bother you."

Luna smiled and shook her head, "I'm glad you're all comfortable enough to be yourselves around me. It would be exhausting to put up an act this whole time."

"The same goes for you as well. We'd like it if you felt more relaxed. You've nothing to prove."

"You're right...," she sighed, smiling wryly and shrugging. "It's the first time I've done this without being at my mother's side, and I'm not a true Oracle. I suppose, I just feel that I need to show that I can do this."

Ignis smiled gently and knowingly, "I can understand that. But it's not us that you need to worry about showing."

"Thank you, Ignis."

He shook his head and faced forward, his expression falling and he let out a long, suffering sigh. "They went too far ahead..."

Giggling softly, Luna picked up her pace to a light jog and grinned, "Then let's catch up and make sure they're not playing too rough."

When they rounded the bend, they were dismayed to find Noctis holding Prompto in a headlock while Gladio laughed and tried to pull them apart, only for Noct to end up dragging Prompto a few steps. Ignis let out another weary sigh and shared a look with Luna before catching their attention, "I do hope we're not having any major problems..."

"No problems here, Ignis!" Noct shouted, sputtering as his friend's spiked hair ended up in his mouth. "Ugh, the hell do you put in your hair Prompto."

"What's it matter!?" he asked, tugging half-heartedly at Noctis' arm that was wrapped jokingly just under his neck.

"It's disgusting!"

"You're not supposed to eat it!"

"Your hair got in my mouth!"

"Dude, that's gross! Now I gotta shower again!"

"It's worse for me, I'm the one who's gotta taste it!"

"Hey guys, the moms got away from us...," Gladio interrupted, and they looked up to find that Ignis and Luna had given up on them and gone on ahead. Breaking apart, they jogged to catch up, laughing and tossing around a few last jokes about the incident.

They rounded the next bend and everything opened up, and the first buildings of town were just several steps away. It seemed to just be a couple of buildings for tending a small bit of well guarded farmland, and most of the life was further in. Luna smiled and nodded towards the first houses, "Since these are so distant from the rest, I want to see if anyone here needs help first. No sense making them walk all the way to, well, wherever I get set up."

"Alright. We'll go ahead, get our information and tell them they can set up for you... Prompto, stick with Luna, alright?"

"Sure thing!"

Luna smiled to Prompto and wasted no time in making her way to the first small farmhouse. After she knocked on the door, she took a step back and folded her hands calmly in front of her, projecting peace, even with her weapon on her back. The door was opened by an older man, who looked both intrigued and confused, "How may I help you, miss...?"

"Lady Lunafreya, of Tenebrae. I'm here to ask if there is anyone in the home that needs healing?"

The man's eyes widened and he suddenly nodded, ushering her in. Prompto hovered on the step a moment before he followed after them, trying to stay out of the way. Laid out on the floor was a young man, just about his age, his arm and that side of his neck and face veined black. He was sweating and clearly in pain, pale and exhausted. "Our grandson, he helps us on the farm. Some daemons from the trench wandered this way and the dogs were barking up a storm. He went to see what it was. Turned out, a light had gone out, they were closer and faster than he'd thought..."

Luna nodded solemnly and knelt down beside the boy, across from an older woman she assumed to be his grandmother. The woman was wiping his head with a wet cloth, trying to put on a brave smile, her lips trembling, "It was just last night. We let the hunters know, so we could get some help..."

"I'm here to help," Luna smiled and set her staff down on the ground behind her. Reaching to the young man, she set one hand on his heavily wounded and infected arm, the other to his cheek, and she leaned over him as a soft yellow glow lit the dim and gloomy room. Her forehead rested against his, her eyes closed, and the glow brightened then held steady, the scourge burning clean away from him and his injuries beginning to mend. Straightening up, Luna smiled down at him as he came to, and she patted his shoulder. "It will take a few days more rest before you're better. I'm afraid that's all that I can do at once, and you will probably need more help for your arm. But the Starscourge is gone and you'll can now heal."

"It's a miracle...! Thank you!" the woman exclaimed, fawning over her dazed grandchild as the young man began to fully realize everything that had happened.

"Not at all. I'm so very glad I was here to help. Now, please, excuse me. I must see if there are others in town."

"Thank you, miss, Lady Lunafreya."

Luna picked up her staff as she stood and she bowed politely to them, quietly leaving with Prompto at her side. There was another, less severe injury at the next house, and none at the rest on the outskirts. As Prompto and Luna headed across the small fields to the town proper, he finally couldn't hold it in any longer. "That was amazing, Lunafreya! Everything seemed so hopeless, then you just swooped in, glowing like an angel, and made it all better! You're incredible!"

She smiled at his gushing, blushing shyly as he had to snap a photo of her right then as well. "I wish it weren't a rare thing, to be able to cleanse the Starscourge. I really don't think it's an incredible thing to be able to do. Simply a necessary one. I'm only special because of my bloodline."

"That's not true at all! You were just, all smiles and calm, I think you really helped them even before you started healing, y'know? You're really something special!"

She didn't know what to say to that and she simply shook her head with a small smile. She wanted to protest more, but she had a feeling any attempts to make him stop gushing over her would just end up in him feeling like he had to so even more. It wasn't that she thought she wasn't any good, she just didn't think she was special, but she didn't think she would be able to get him to understand the difference.

Noctis was waiting for them on the road, and he waved to them. "Hoping you got the guy that got attacked last night?" he asked once they got close.

Luna nodded and smiled, "Yes, he was the first. They did say they reported it to the Hunters, so I guess they're the ones that told you?"

"Yup. Come on. They've got two clinics, and they're setting up a tent in the square and letting everyone know. You'll do the clinics first, since that's where the worst ones are. Ah, at least, we assumed this would make the most sense. It work for you?"

"Yes, thank you, Noctis."

He relaxed and nodded, leading the way to the clinic on their side. "Ignis is picking up lunch for us all and he'll meet us there. Gladio went with the Hunters to take care of some work."

"Hm, they left you alone?"

"I'm a big boy, Luna."

"I didn't mean it that way. I just...," she shook her head and stopped herself, smiling to him. "Sorry. Never mind."

He shrugged it off and they went to the clinic, where Ignis was waiting with food. Luna ate before heading further inside, since no one there was in any danger of dying if they waited another twenty minutes. There was something truly incredible about the magical stamina the Oracles had, and even without all of the extra gifts that came from being fully realized, Luna still was able to go through the whole day without another break.

Thankfully there hadn't been any more critical cases, though one thing they found was that there were quite a few old cases. That was the biggest problem they faced, were the old cases that were being kept from becoming fatal by the use of potions given from the Crown City. It had been a long time since Lady Sylva had gone through, and some cases had been missed, while most of the older ones had been within months since she'd left. It was difficult to heal when it was so deeply rooted, as she had to work through layers of darkness, and there was no guarantee that some of the long infected limbs would become fully usable again. But she did it, and their relief and gratitude was immediate and powerful.

The group stopped for dinner at a diner before checking into their hotel room. After showering and changing into lounge pants and a loose tee, Noctis declined to play a card game and left the room he shared with the other three guys to go next door to Luna. She opened up not long after he knocked, her hair half dried and brushed out, and she wore simply a pair of shorts and a tank top. "What is it, Noctis?"

"Mind if I come in? Just wanna talk for a bit."

"Of course," she smiled, stepping back so he could come in. "I was just getting ready for bed, if you don't mind waiting for me to finish my hair."

"Sure, I'll wait."

After a few minutes she joined him where he'd sat on the edge of her bed, watching TV. He switched it off and turned to her, bring his leg up to rest his cheek against his knee as he looked at her. "We've gotta figure this out."

"Yes, I suppose so." They each turned to face each other more fully, scooting onto the bed and crossing their legs. Settling in comfortably, Luna  tucked some of her hair behind her ear and started while he was still gathering his thoughts, "I'm sorry if I've been overbearing at times and... trying too hard. I appreciate your help, Noctis, I really do. I think, what it is, is that... This is my first time on my own, more or less. Away from Mother, and Ravus, and everyone, and I need to prove to them, and to myself, that I can do this... And I've been so stuck on that, that I've forgotten that none of them do it alone. It's okay for me to use your help."

He smiled at that and reached out to tap her hand as he nodded. "And, I've forgotten that you've had combat training. I guess, you so rarely speak of it, that I'd forgotten you and I had all the same kinds of lessons, just different magic..."

"To be fair, you were right that I couldn't finish off beasts. But I think you'll realize it more when you see me against daemons."

"I'm looking forward to it. I mean, I don't like bringing you into danger, if I'm honest, but, at the same time, I feel better with you here. And I'm glad we get this chance, to see each other work."

She giggled softly at that and nodded, "It is good. You're very good at handling people."

"Why do you sound so surprised?"

"Because you're absolutely terrible at being social with anyone you haven't known for years."

"This isn't being social, this is work. I wasn't trying to make small talk with these people..."

She laughed at how put off he seemed, and she reached out to ruffle his hair, making him pout even more. "It is funny how we can put everything else aside to work, even if it means we have to act like a different person."

Sighing at that, he turned and flopped back across her bed, stretching his arms out over his head so they dangled above the ground. "A glorious life we lead, huh? Always having to put up different faces."

"At least we have some people we can be ourselves around, without the masks." She laid down beside him and he brought his arms back onto the bed as he rolled to his side to face her.

"That's true. And each other. We're the only ones who can really understand what the other is dealing with, since it's the same bullshit."

"Language," she teasingly admonished, reaching out to tap his nose. "But, yes, we do deal with much the same things. You've a lot more responsibility than I do, though. I know it gets hard."

"Yeah, but, I don't hate it. More like, I only wish I could just do what I had to, without worrying about people watching and judging me on everything."

"Things are a lot grander for royalty... Tenebrae is quiet. Even our loudest parties are barely the size of your birthday event."

"That honestly sounds like heaven. Can I stay with you?"

"It would be difficult for you to rule Lucis from Tenebrae."

"You can hide me there."

"Noctis!"

"You won't protect me?"

"Don't be silly!" she laughed, making him grin. "Of course I'll protect you, but not from that!"

He let out a dramatic sigh and rolled onto his back, covering his face with his arms, "I thought I could count on you... Betrayed, by my best friend..."

"Oooh, you!" Luna got up and grabbed a pillow, quickly bringing it down on him with a solid fwump.

"Ah! I can't believe it! And now you attack me, on top of the political betrayal!"

"You are a bad man, Noctis! Do not tease me like that!" she laughed, hitting him again with the pillow and pretending to try to smother him as he put up a token resistance.

He laughed and guarded himself from her attack until he was finally driven from the bed and laughing hard enough that it was difficult to breathe. When he looked up, she was still kneeling on the bed, clutching the pillow and pouting, watching him as if she were ready to attack again with the pillow, her hair clinging messily to her face. It was difficult to be graceful as he bowed while laughing, handing place sincerely over his chest, "I'm sorry, Lady Lunafreya."

She let out a huff, blowing at the hair that clung too close to her mouth and tickled at her nose. "You're forgiven, on one condition."

"And that is?"

"Get me one of those cheap apple pies that Gladiolus bought. ...I like them more than I care to admit."

He laughed again, grinning at her and making another mock half-bow, "As the lady commands."
