Goro Akechi remembers dying.

He remembers being shot by his cognitive self, he remembers bleeding out in Shido’s ship, he remembers that inky darkness that swallowed him up.

He remembers being so, so cold.

So why is he suddenly warm? Why can he hear a heartbeat that isn’t his own? Why does he feel so safe?

“Is he okay?” A voice asks.

Whoever is with him responds, their voice rumbling in their chest. They sound sleepy. “Yeah. He should be. ‘Doc said to give him a few more days, though. To be safe, or some shit like that.”

Someone else laughs, short and brief. Goro swears he’s heard it somewhere before.

“Yeah, because everything we do is so safe,” they say. There’s a smacking sound, and they curse.

“You didn’t have to be so harsh, Makoto...” They mutter.

Makoto... Nijima?

“Ah... Sorry, Akira. I didn’t mean to hit you that hard.”

Kurusu. Nijima. Is anyone else there? Where even is he?

The bed beneath him is oddly soft, so he certainly can’t in the hospital in Tokyo- but that’s where the Diet Building, and consequently Shido’s Palace, was. He couldn’t be anywhere else.

There’s silence for a moment, then someone approaches them.

“Man... I can’t believe Ryuji of all people fell asleep beside him,” someone says.

Sakamoto? Is that who the heartbeat he hears belongs to?

“I can’t believe Ryuji of all people was so kind to him in the Palace! ‘You’re more than special’? Where the hell did that come from?”

More footsteps approach, and the bed by Goro’s legs sinks beneath someone’s weight. A hand is placed on his knee. He hates how comforting the gesture is.

“Ryuji has always been a kind person. He isn’t one to judge, unless you obviously deserve it,” Kurusu says. It’s his hand on Goro’s knee.

Someone scoffs. “I’d say Akechi deserves it.”

Kurusu’s hand twitches where it sits. “He’s been through more than any of the Palace rulers we’ve faced. I happen to agree with Ryuji- we should try to be at least a little kinder to him.”

“After what he did!? No way. I can excuse saving his life or whatever, but I refuse to make friends with him.”

That voice was definitely Sakura-san’s daughter. Goro can’t blame her for her stance.

“I’m not trying to force any of you to be friends with him. I’m just asking you not to treat him with cruelty or malice. Be friendly with him,” Kurusu says, his thumb rubbing circles into Goro's leg.

Beside him, Sakamoto stirs. The heartbeat, now a comforting sound, stutters for a moment, then disappears entirely.

“Dude... Did I fall asleep? That’s so embarrasin’...”

Kurusu laughs again. “What, comforted by Akechi’s presence?”

There’s some flustered spluttering, before Sakamoto settles for a solid, squeaked,“ Dude!!”

The door opens. Someone in heels comes in, and Sakamoto moves. Someone takes his place.

“...He’s concious,” a woman’s voice declares after a moment of silence. Immediately, the room errupts into various cries of shock. He picks out more than a few ‘for real’s.

“He should be fully awake in a few minutes. Especially if you all keep shouting like this,” the woman continues, but her tone isn’t rude at all.

“Thanks, Takemi. We really appreciate your work,” Kurusu says, and the woman named Takemi rests her hand on Goro’s chest, over his heart. She has rings on.

“No problem, kid. It’s my job, after all. Back-alley doctor or no, I’m still responsible for the lives of my patients. I just want to know how you got here so quickly, and without major bloodloss on his end.”

Kurusu goes silent, but Sakamoto picks up the conversation.

“He got shot not too far from here. We sorta booked it after it happened, since Akira told us you were a doctor and could probably help him more than them at the hospital.”

That’s not what happened. He didn’t get shot in Yongen. Nowhere close to it. How did they get him here, to this place?

Takemi doesn’t reply. She just rises to her feet, takes her hand off his chest. He misses the weight.

“...Take care of him, okay? If he can’t stay with family in the area, let him stay with one of you. I don’t want him travelling around any more than necessary.”

“Aye aye, Takemi. We’ll keep him safe and sound,” Kurusu says, and Takemi leaves.

Someone’s breathing in his face. He continues to lay there, unmoving. Playing dead, his brain supplies. A terrible attempt at comedy.

“I know you’re awake, jackass. Open your eyes and face us.”

“Futaba, lay off. Just because Doc said he’d wake up soon doesn’t mean he already is,” Sakamoto says. The breathing in his face ceases.

“Look at him! He’s obviously faking it!” Futaba says.

Goro stirs, forcing his eyes open. The light overhead has been turned down, at least, and the blanket over him is fluffy and warm. If not for the presence of everyone, he might roll over and go back to sleep.

He’s so, so tired.

“Akechi! You’re awake. How are you feeling?” Kurusu asks, at his side in a blur. Goro fights back the urge to laugh. Even after trying to kill him two separate times, Akira Kurusu can’t find it in himself to hate him.

“Other than everything hurting... And the insatiable urge to sleep for another week... I feel fine.”

Sakamoto appears behind Kurusu like an eclipse. The sun behind the moon, Goro thinks almost bitterly.

“Dude! Glad to see you’re okay. You had us worried,” he says with a smile bright as ever. Goro makes a point to ignore that ‘us’ likely does not include the Thieves that aren’t currently at his bedside.

Speaking of... Everyone else seems to be almost avoiding him, as though he holds some terrible illness. Perhaps he does.

“Yes, well... Death cannot claim me so easily, it seems. Alas for that,” Goro replies easily, slowly swinging his legs over the edge of the bed. He isn’t wearing a hospital gown- rather a pair of grey sweatpants and a white shirt. When did he change? How did he change?

Perhaps Kurusu can tell where his gaze lies, because he offers an explaination.

“Oh, yeah. Takemi had some spare clothes in here for patients that had to stay longer term... We got lucky that they fit you,” he says. Goro is getting extremely good at ignoring certain aspects of what people say to him.

“...Give her my thanks. Did I have any belongings when we left the Metaverse?” Goro asks, rising to his feet. He’s less graceful than he would hope; his legs are shaky, and he stumbles a bit at first- ending up grasping Sakamoto’s shoulder in an attempt to steady himself.

Sakamoto, thankfully, keeps his mouth firmly shut about it. Instead he says,“ Nope. Just yourself and a model gun. We couldn’t bring that here, obviously. So we sorta... left it. Sorry, man.”

“No, don’t apologise,” he says. Sakamoto looks mildly surprised. Goro says nothing about it.

“...We should figure out a place for Akechi to stay. I think we can rule out Boss’s house, my own, and Haru’s,” Nijima says, her voice gentle but firm.

“I live in the dorms, so I will not be able to take him in,” Kitagawa chimes in.

Ann shifts uncomfortably from foot to foot. “I would love to, but... I don’t think I could explain it to my parents. It’d be too risky.”

Goro has all but resigned himself to trying to get back into his apartment when Sakamoto speaks up.

“Ah, hell. I’ll take ‘im. Ma won’t care- I think she’d actually be happy. It’d mean I’m ‘makin’ new friends’ or whatever. You know.”

He shrugs as though what he said wasn’t horrifically depressing, and everyone else seems perfectly content with this outcome.

Goro ignores the relief on their faces. He ignores the way Sakamoto shifts their position so his arm is slung around Sakamoto’s shoulder- essentially using him as a human crutch. He ignores the way Futaba looks at Sakamoto like he’s lost his mind.

He ignores the way he agrees with her.

“Ma! I’m home!” Sakamoto shouts into the apartment.

It is considerably less lavish than Goro’s own, but it’s far more homey. There are pictures of Sakamoto at various stages in his life hanging on the wall- Goro sees him elementary age, hair dark and wild, a yellow shirt on his back and a gap-toothed grin on his face. He sees middle school Sakamoto, likely around first year, running in a race. He’s the one crossing the finish line.

The kitchen/dining room/living room are all in various states of disarray, but for some reason none of it seems ‘messy’. The kitchen has clean dishes placed in a rack by the sink (accompanied by a few dirty ones in the sink).

The dining table has magazines and papers and books strewn across its surface, along with a very healthy looking flower in a vase.

The living room sofa has blankets and pillows tossed haphazardly on it, and Goro even spots a plushie or two. There’s no coffee table, but if there was Goro suspects there would be all sorts of eclectic messiness there.

“Oh, uh... Sorry for the mess. Everything is kinda shitty right now...”

Sakamoto trails off, his ears red from embarassment. Goro shrugs.

“So long as I have a bed to sleep in, I’m not about to look a gift horse in the mouth,” he says, and Sakamoto visibly perks up.

“Oh, yeah. We got a guest bedroom, so you don’t even hafta worry about sharin’ my room. Uh- I don’t know if you were worried about that or not...”

Sakamoto (Goro suspects he should start getting into the habit of calling him Ryuji at least around his mother) shifts uncomfortably again, before once again picking the conversation back up. It’s a gift that leaves Goro feeling a little windswept, like he’s found himself in the path of a storm that can’t decide which way it wants to blow.

“We got food! Plenty of homecooked shit, my ma prefers it over buyin’ stuff from the store. Anything sound good? We probably have it.”

Goro can’t bring himself to speak for a few seconds. Sakamoto is looking at him with such bright earnesty that it leaves him breathless.

Wait. Sakamoto, of all people, leaving him winded? He would expect near anyone else. Kurusu, perhaps. He’s the first one to come to mind. Sakamoto is the last.

“...Do you have any tonkatsu?” He finally forces words out of his too-dry mouth, oddly timid about requesting food at someone’s house. Goro Akechi has never been timid before.

...

“It was reheated, so it won’t taste as good as it did when it was freshly made, but...”

Goro took the plate and placed it on his lap. “Food is food. I don’t have much right to be a picky eater. Thank you for the food.”

Sakamoto- No, Ryuji, he reminds himself- doesn’t respond. He has his own dish of food- fried rice and noodles, it seems- but seems more keen on observing Goro eat his first.

“Are you often in the habit of watching others eat before your own meal?” He can’t help but ask. Ryuji just shrugs, as though Goro asked him about a question a teacher had that day.

“Eh. Not often, but...”

“But?”

Ryuji seems uncomfortable with the conversation. Goro doesn’t care.

“Well, it sorta depends on the circumstances. Whenever one of my friends aren’t feelin’ good, I sorta watch ‘em to make sure they’re okay. Even if it’s somethin’ as dumb as eating.”

Ryuji’s word choice rattled around in Goro’s ears. One of his friends, he had said. Goro was likely reading far too deeply into it, but...

“Dude, if you stare at me any longer I think I might explode. You look like you’re imagining my head as a giant lemon or somethin’.”

Goro blinks himself back into reality, caught off-guard by Ryuji’s example.

“A what-?”

Ryuji looks away, ears flaming red. “When I first dyed my hair, I got told by some girl that I looked like a giant lemon. Ann only made that worse by callin’ me a lemonhead in middle school. Just- a joke between us now, I guess.”

Goro nods once, unsure how else to respond. So he asks another question.

“Why did you dye it?”

Ryuii perks up at that. Bingo, Goro thinks.

“It was actually because Ann kept gettin’ a bunch of shit from people because she was blonde, so I decided to dye my hair. Solidarity, y’know? She got called a whole bunch of names. People were callin’ her an attention whore when she was thirteen, dude! I couldn’t just let those bastards get away with that!”

Goro nods once again, this time completely comprehending. “So you decided to take the target off of her back and place it onto your own with the delinquent shtick.”

Ryuji nods in agreement. “Yeah, pretty much. That’s... Sorta why I keep up the act. It’s hard to keep your tracks completely covered as a Phantom Thief, especially when there are so many of us. But they’re all friends with me, the ‘school delinquent’, so...”

“So you hope that them being friends with a punk will keep others from badgering them about things they don’t wish to discuss, such as the Phantom Thieves.”

Goro has to conclude, it’s a brilliant ploy. Acting tough and scary to ward off anyone who might wish to pester those you love... A clever act unexpected from Ryuji.

“Yeah, that’s basically it. I just wanna give ‘em a little bit of protection if I can. Even if if ain’t for very long.”

Goro tilts his head. What on earth is he on about?

“What on earth are you on about?” He asks. It comes out harsher than he meant it to.

Ryuji scoffs. “C’mon, man. You’re a damn detective and you worked with us. You know what I mean.”

“No, I can’t say that I do.”

Ryuji groans, abandoning his plate on the table beside him. The question of why they’re eating on the sofa and not at the table suddenly hits Goro. He pushes it down and out of sight.

“Dude! Pretty much the only thing I’m good for on the team is givin’ and takin’ hits. I wanna- I wanna help them more. Even if all I can do is take even more hits in the real world, too. I mean- the most useful thing I’ve ever done for the team was almost die, so.”

Goro freezes. Ryuji... Almost died? After he risked his own life in an attempt to keep the others safe?

“What-?”

Now it’s Ryuji’s turn to freeze up. “Oh, uh... Did Aki not tell you? Man... Well, um. When Shido’s Palace went down, two things happened. One, was Futaba pickin’ up your signal again and Aki rushin’ to save you. Apparently he used his MetaNav to get the both of ya outta there. The second thing was me runnin’ to the lifeboats to trigger them in time. I blew up, but I managed to use my Nav to get out right before I hit the water.”

“...Why... The hell would you describe me being saved first-!? I don’t give a shit about me, I asked about you!”

Ryuji reels back like Goro just slapped him, hands up as though to protect himself from the ex-detective’s odd burst of wrath.

“Dude! Akechi, quit yellin’! The neighbours’ll call the police, and that’ll be a whole new world of shit for us.”

Goro takes a breath, sinking back into the cushions of the sofa. He glares at Ryuji, but the Zio user doesn’t quail. Rather, they meet each other’s gaze- and Goro fights a shiver that threatens to run down his spine.

As far as Goro knows, no one can use their Persona’s power outside of the Metaverse. So why the hell does the air seem so electrified all of a sudden?

“Secondly, I don’t give a shit about me neither, so we’re in the same boat on that one. Whatever shit happened, or happens, to me is nothin’ compared to what you all have been through. I mean- you especially.”

“You almost died, Sakamoto. How is that nothing?” Goro hopes Ryuji doesn’t point out that-

“You did too, asshole. Don’t gimme that shit,” Ryuji grumbles.

Damn him.

“Yes, well-”

Goro sighs. He hates the Phantom Thieves. Half of them hate his guts (rightfully so). Kurusu is the only one he feels he can carry a conversation with, because Ryuji often leaves him without the proper words unless they were having an argument.

“Dude, I swear. If you pull the ‘you’re a better person than me’ card I will actually throw rice at you,” Ryuji threatens, and he sounds so sincere it startles a laugh out of Goro.

“I beg your pardon?” He asked, covering his mouth with his hand. Second nature from so many years in the detective scene, hiding his mirth behind a mask of polite indifference.

“...You’re pardoned, or whatever,” Ryuji grumbles, and Goro resists the urge to laugh more. What in the hell was wrong with him? Ryuji Sakamoto, drawing genuine laughs out of him?

He needs to get a grip.

Goro insists on doing the dishes after they eat, if not for any other reason than to be left with his thoughts. Ryuji protests, as expected, but eventually (after a long bickering session) lets him do the chore.

Ryuji putters around the living-dining areas, putting the papers into stacks and putting the throw pillows back where they belong.

Goro watches him with a keen eye, taking in every little detail. The gentle way Ryuji handles the papers, the care in his hands as he prunes the flower on the table.

The little smile that graces his lips as the theme song for Featherman NEO plays on the TV, the way he nods his head to the beat long after it’s disappeared from the screen.

The way he spikes his hair with his hands sometimes, the way he holds himself off of his left leg.

The way he seems to keep glancing at Goro, only to hurriedly look away again with red ears. Perhaps shame at being caught gaping.

It’s maddening, trying to decipher the meaning behind his glances. There seems to be no malice, or even remorse at taking him in. But there’s no warm smile or radiant grin to give away the meaning either.

So Goro remains silent, bordering sullen, at the enigma that is Ryuji Sakamoto.

For the time being, at least.

aghhhahahgghhhhh.... ryuji sleeping next to akechi and getting embarassed by akira saying he's comforted by akechi's presence. love the way akira doesnt force futaba or anyone to forgive him but just not to absolutely despise him. hehe akechi forcing himself to call him ryuji "because of his mom" yeah i know what you are. and the fact that he cares for ryuji. he yells at him for risking his life and prioritizing akechi's. gahh they love each other and cover it up with hate. they're like two sides of the same coin GHHHSGSGGVVB speaking of which they should have given akechi more showtimes with other PTs for example: ryuji. akechi x ryuji showtime would go insane.

So I was thinking of some platonic AEW wrestlers helping the fem!reader ( a young fan maybe like 16-18 even 19 possibly) with a panic attack (claustrophobia) at a meet and greet.

The wrestler(s) could be either;

a commonly loved character that is a softie with fans( The Bucks, Cody, Jeff Hardy, Skye Blue, Danhansen)

a rougher wrestler that stays in character with fans but once sees the reader, they break( MJF, Mox, Eddie Kington)

the wrestlers that are on the younger(ish)side( Top flight, HOOK, Isaiah Kassidy)

or the older wrestlers( Chris Jericho, Billy Gunn, Sting, Taz)

Backstory:

You were waiting in line to meet your favorite wrestler, as everyone was. But it was really special for you as it was your first time going to a live wrestling event. AEW was hosting a meet and greet before Dynamite and you were fortunate that it was in your town and you saved enough money to go.

This wrestler meant a lot to you; they helped you during a rough time, motivated you, and inspired you to do better in your life every day.

While waiting you’re waiting in line, you started to get sweaty palms and immediately started to guard yourself; you’re breath started to stagger and you started to hyperventilate.

Most people would think it’s because you’re really excited. But it was because you were claustrophobic, you couldn’t stand crowds, and you actually hated and dreaded them.

People started pushing you around, meshing you against other people in line. Soon, it began to feel like walls were being built around you and they were cutting off your oxygen.

As you were hyperventilating, your chest started to swell with tightness as you began to shake. But soon…a figure, that you thought you would never meet, saved you…

The commonly loved character that is a softie with fans…Jeff Hardy:

This man would jump into action and ask the crowd to give you some space

Would immediately give you space while also checking on you

“Darling, are you okay?” (MY MAN WITH THE CAROLINIAN ACCENT)

Would give you water and wait until you stated your name before getting close to you

You were able to skip the line as Jeff really wanted to make sure you were okay

Wants to distract you so he’s rambling about anything and everything

“When I’m up on the top rope, it feels like I’m so free and gone with the wind”

Will constantly ask if you’re feeling alright

After you’re okay, you talk to him about how he’s impacted your life as he signs your picture

He smiles at you and takes a picture with you

Afterward, he would give you a backstage pass, so you have all the space you need to watch the show

The rougher wrestler that stays in character with fans but once sees the reader, they break…Eddie Kingston:

It has been said by Eddie himself that he suffers from panic attacks so I think he would take your situation very seriously

Would immediately yell at the line to disperse as you fell to the ground, going straight into an attack

He would jump down and use some methods that helped him through panic attacks

This would include naming 5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch, etc.

Will be completely transparent with you as he is with everyone “You’re okay. Everything is okay. Those idiots don’t understand personal space.”

Will have a heart-to-heart with you about panic attacks (I feel like ya’ll will get so into the conversation that it would feel like y’all just knew each other for years)

“What medicine do you take?….Oh, that doesn’t work for shit…I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ME!”

Like Jeff, Eddie will distract you with stories about who he has beef with (also to let out his frustrations)

His heart would grow after hearing how much of an impact he has made on your life

Eddie would definitely have a conversation with whoever didn’t monitor the capacity

The wrestlers that are on the younger(ish)side…Hook, Dante and Darius Martin (3/4ths of The Lads):

Okay, I hope this doesn’t sound bad but I feel like they would freak out first…well at least

But only because they wouldn’t know how how to help

Hook would be kind of frozen to help at first

All of them would ask you yes or no questions to try not to overwhelm you

They would quickly give you water and instruct you to take deep breaths

Darius: You’re doing great

Dante: Do you need more water?

Hook: Here's more chips. hands you a whole unopened bag

Top Flight would try to distract you with music, giving you recommendations

Wants you to stay near their table so they check on you throughout the invite

“We are friends now”

(Call me trying to give you a Y/N moment) But I really do feel like they would become genuine friends with you

I also think they would look up more resources on how to help you and others who might have panic attacks

The veteran wrestler…Sting (his might be short, sorry):

Sting is an understanding and supportive grandpa and I refuse to elaborate

Anyways, would definitely pull you to a corner (to give you space) and shut down his booth for a little bit

I feel like he would use the RAIN method to help you calm down and have you take deep breaths

“It’s okay kid. It happens to most of us.”

After you’re feeling better, he would take pictures with you, give you a long letter of encouraging words

I feel like even after you leave the booth, he would still check up on you and keep an eye on you

Like Jeff, he would also give you a backstage path

Would definitely post something on Twitter about giving people a respectable amount of space and not shoving when at meet and greets

You would forever live in his mind and he would constantly hope that you’re safe

mkay did a few things to kinda ease up and make here breathable for me again so,

-- went thru my follow / follower lists and downsized both ( whether from inactivity, sporadic activity, or just zero interest made etc ). anyones additional blogs im following, though, ya'll are still gucci even if its been like a year since yall were active there lmao

-- i downsized drafts by a few but its still at a demented like 36 or so

-- also downsized the inbox from being like 84+ again all the way down to 14 ( which are the kissie prompts, a couple special prompts, & then some prompts from mutuals i havent yet directly interacted with ). everything that wasnt deleted i have in a g.doc saved to go back to once the drafts i do have started / with notes in rn actually get done. that way for me its not like.... looking at the numbers on both the inbox / draft sides looming in the distance and getting anxious & overwhelmed by seeing them everyday im not writing lmao

i do, also, think im going to gently switch things and say that i do prefer some plotting / talks / etc to be done before ill reply to anything. just so i have a better understanding of anyones' muses, how they feel working alongside mine, what potential dynamics can be like, etc. so that actually sitting down and drafting a reply, whether for a thread or an inbox treat, runs generally smoother and im not second-guessing things etc - just overall makes it easier to work with; doesnt necessarily have to be deep-dives or anything like that but some back and forths help alot! which, ofc, that will push me to also keep track of things better and reach out more too ( im a quiet bitch esp in recent weeks im sorry- )

but i Am going to be focusing on those kissie / cutesy prompts for a bit bc the brain hasnt been being all that kind lately and i think i need to suffocate it with some icky cute things so-

Treating Diarrheal Illness

Someone recently sent me an ask about vomiting and diarrhea. I got almost all the way through writing it and then tumblr ate it. Didn't save it as a draft, didn't even put the ask back in my inbox, just poof'd it into oblivion.

But it was a good ask, and not one I get very often, so I still want to answer it- it essentially said the following:

How could a non-medical person in an apocalyptic setting treat someone who had severe diarrhea and vomiting, assuming the person in gastrointestinal distress was a doctor and could give them some direction? Can/should they give antidiarrheal medication and how would they go about doing that since the patient would probably throw it up?

So very glad you asked:

Diarrhea

The nice thing about most diarrheal illness is that as long as the person stays hydrated, they have a really good chance at surviving. Water is okay for hydration, but if the caregiver can get their hands on some salt, some potassium-based salt substitute, and some sugar, they can make a really easy and effective oral rehydration solution. The recipe is as follows:

Mix together:

1 liter of water

1/2 tsp salt (you want this to be slightly less salty than tears)

1/8 tsp potassium-based salt substitute (if you have this, great, if not, you can leave it out and it will still be effective)

8 tsp sugar

The goal is to get them to drink more volume of ORS than they are pooping- think at least a cup of ORS per poop.

Vomiting

The nice thing about uncontrollable vomiting is, again, that as long as the person stays hydrated, they will probably survive. Hydrating someone who can't keep anything down is a little trickier for the lay caregiver. Fortunately, there's another entrance to the GI tract.

The colon absorbs water. That's the colon's job. It takes the liquid coming from the small intestine and pulls water out of it until it becomes solid poop. A lay caregiver can take advantage of this process to hydrate someone if necessary by inserting a flexible tube (enema tip, catheter tip, NG tube, IV tubing, whatever relatively clean tube you have lying around that fits) a few inches into the rectum and SLOWLY instilling saline (1 liter water to 1/2 tsp salt). The colon can absorb between 2 and 6 liters of water this way per 24-hour period, which can absolutely keep a person hydrated even without an IV.

Diarrhea AND Vomiting

The annoying thing is that when diarrhea comes with vomiting severe enough to prevent being able to keep liquids down, neither of these really work.

So either your caregiver character needs a method that doesn't involve the GI tract at all, or they need to get creative.

IV hydration has a lot of drawbacks in the apocalypse. For one thing, it involves a lot of specialized equipment- the tiny catheters that sit in the vein, sterile tubing with a drip chamber, sterile fluids, and saline locks- all of which are nearly impossible to improvise. Plus, in the case of this ask specifically- doctors generally don't know how to start IVs. That's a nursing skill and unless a doctor is an anesthesiologist they probably haven't put an IV in since med school (where they did it exactly once).

Subcutaneous (subq) hydration is slower and requires all the same supplies. The nice thing about subq though is that unlike an IV catheter, which has to sit in the vein and takes skill/experience to place, in subq hydration the caregiver only has to place a catheter into the patient's fat (something a lot easier to talk someone through). This can instill about 60ml/hr (about 1.5 liters/24 hr). If they have the supplies and can throw more than one catheter in the person, they can probably keep them hydrated this way.

Recommendations

What I would recommend for this story, however, is to pile a bunch of anti-nausea remedies on top of each other to try to get the puking under control, then work on the diarrhea.

If this were my patient and I was in the apocalypse, I would start by putting a cool rag on the back of my patient's neck and have them smell an alcohol pad or some mint, help them wash out their mouth so it doesn't taste like puke, and try to keep them from puking for about an hour. If they make it that long, I'd start with having them drink about an ounce of clean water. If they don't throw it up over the course of the next half hour, I'd give an ounce of coca cola (I don't usually do brand names, but coca cola has a high concentration of phosphoric acid, which is a great anti-emetic plus the bubbles can help with nausea as well).

I'd then drop to an ounce every 15 mins, then an ounce every 10, alternating water and coke, or ORS and coke. The goal is very small amounts of liquid with time in between. If they become severely nauseous, back off and start again after a half hour. If they throw up, start the whole thing over again.

If at any point during this they had a prescription medication available like ondansetron, compazine, or promethazine, they could crush it and have the patient put it under their tongue- that way they wouldn't have to swallow it and risk throwing it back up. Some of it would absorb, and if they happened to swallow some, that would also be great.

Once the vomiting is moderately under control, they could give bismouth subsalicylate (pepto-bismol) and loperamide. Both work against diarrhea. For loperamide, the dosing is two tablets after the first loose stool, then one after each subsequent loose stool. Bismouth subsalicylate and loperamide can be taken together.

Stopping Things Up

A question a lot of people ask is whether you should take anything to stop diarrhea. This usually comes with the idea that the person with diarrhea must be pooping for a reason, and stopping it up is trapping an infection in there and making it worse.

If the diarrhea is being caused by a bacteria or virus, that infection is in the walls of the digestive tract, and it spreads to other people via infectious poop. Pooping does not get rid of the infection. It just makes it more likely that someone else will catch it, and that the patient will become dehydrated. So taking medication to slow down the poopcano is generally a good idea here, since the goal is basically just to wait until the immune system kicks the infection or antibiotics wipe it out, and pooping doesn't help with that.

Now. If the diarrhea is being caused by a toxin, including a toxin from, say, c-diff (an infection from a bacteria that takes over the gut after some antibiotics and causes life-threatening diarrhea/colitis), taking a medication to stop the poop is a bad idea- since the toxin will get trapped and continue to cause problems. Same if it's something like a food allergy or intolerance- it's going to keep messing you up until it's out, so better to let it get out.

How can you tell? Well, here's where I refer you to a doctor. In this situation, the doctor might be able to make an informed choice on whether they wanted to take an anti-diarrheal medication based on what they thought was causing the vomiting and diarrhea.

If so, can I please read it, I love making and looking at fanmade competences for some reason, probably because of how creative the nonsensical titles can get while sticking to a single theme, mixed with the general role of the character in battle matching with their personality. But if I'm the only person here that actually cares about that stuff I totally get it!!! And I don't want you to feel pressured to make a set of competences just for this ask either, if you didn't make one you didn't make one and that's okay. I think you've hit the first question that I can't answer outright because of Lore secrets I'm saving for askbandit. Partially related to the X story, that's all I'll say

Wuhhhh imaginary guardian scenarios?? They're pretty vague but here's some ideas Dedan - Dedan getting increasingly angrier and angrier as he tries to order Bandit around and fails. I also imagine Dedan being confused on who Bandit is, like "DO YOU EVEN WORK HERE?" and Bandit's just "Shouldn't you know that?" Japhet - Like the sketch, Japhet would flap around Bandit and fret about the X. Bandit would probably keep the bird at arm's length though, he rarely lets people close, and Japhet wouldn't be one of those people lol. Enoch - Enoch would have a special bone to pick with Bandit because of the sugar smuggling. He'd try to squish Bandit Judge? - Bandit loves cats. Judge would get many pets, scritches, and treats Sucre? - Sucre is a sugar dealing client for sure. Queen? - I imagine Bandit sarcastically complimenting the architecture of the Room. I imagine the Queen would be passive, maybe laugh a little at his silly musings. Hugo?? - Kick the baby (LMAO KIDDING, KIDDING). Truthfully, maybe they'd talk about comics or something. Idk the room is a weird place and I don't think Bandit and Hugo would ever purposefully meet

Yes, the game is called Project GoldFinch, and it is in production. I haven't done enough to do another big dev progress post, but here's the announcement post if you want the little info I've provided about it. I appreciate the offer to help, but this is a personal project and I feel more comfortable doing the work myself.

This is actually a question I've gotten on askbandit and haven't answered yet, but Bandit is not intimidated by Burnts. Most Burnts (in my lore) aren't necessarily violent, or burn quick enough to that they don't do that much damage, so Bandit wouldn't pay it any mind. If a Burnt was to attack, he would probably choose to avoid it until it recovers rather than shoot though. Also, Bandit doesn't burn, can't burn*, so he doesn't worry. He has no fear. * this info could only be found on his artfight profile previously. Public info but out-of-the-way.

I really should make a Bandit playlist, but the song I currently associate him with the most is Catch Me If You Can by Set It Off. Obvious reasons for that one. I also listen to the music used for his shop theme in UNKNOWN. Also ALSO, I commissioned a really cool person (hai @amygdalum hope you don't mind the tag) to create a Bandit theme inspired by Synchronicity, so if you wanna listen to that, here ya go! I did the cover art on that one.

And finally, competence list. Funny story, I have never actually thought about making a competence list for him, but when Bandit was still the Final Boss in RISE, he did have one (so credit to Brandy again for this, screenshot ripped straight from the old files). These are thematically relevant to his role in the game more than how he is now, but I gotta say, I really like Reckless Charge. If I were to keep any of these, it would be Reckless Charge. That feels very him. The other ones are badass but I see them fitting Tate better. I don't remember if they were changed for Tate or not, but either way, great attack names all around.

I had to double-check who was included in the selection pool included for the Senior Operator Transfer Permits, and I decided on five Operators that I think would be v v useful and helpful to your Squad 🤔! (Since you mentioned you're rather new to the game, I also hope it's okay that I explain a lil regarding why I choose my choices here abaja!)

Sbsjs firstly, I wouldn't be me if I didn't mention Executor 😶👉👈!!!

I most certainly bring Executor everywhere I go because he's my ultimate Arknights favourite sbsjs, however I also do so because he's a v v powerful Operator!

His damage output is super high!! During Operations, I find that he can easily manage being a solo damage dealer for me 👍! I often leave him to handle areas of Operation maps by himself (with a melee help to block the incoming enemies sbsjs), and he doesn't have lots of trouble at all!

His Talent also penetrates DEF which is super useful against lots and lots of enemies!

Placing him in an advantageous position is important when using him, but otherwise he doesn't require much to operate well 👍!!

Secondly, I want to suggest Ptilopsis sbsjs ✨!!

She's been one of my two main Medics since I first began playing 💕!

Mostly, she's super useful because of her Talent sgsush, it causes all of your Operators to regenerate their Skill Points quite a bit faster 🤔!! This is always v v helpful during Operations aaa

I don't believe there's another Operator who does this exactly as she does, so this ability of hers makes her v special and unique 🥺!

Also, her second Skill outputs a good amount of burst healing which can save you lots if you're in trouble sbsjs!!

Thirdly, I want to suggest Texas!

Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, I've realized she's barely left my Squad since she's joined me sbjzha 😮✨!! I've never needed to replace her, she's v special 💕!!

When equipped with her second Skill, she generate Deployment Points, stun, deal Arts Damage, and Crowd Control shsjshs 👍!!! She does lots just with this, on her own!

Her Talent also starts off Operations with an extra Deployment Point or two, which is always helpful even if it's only by a lil sbhzs!

Fourthly, I want to suggest Elysium!

I want to mention that Elysium does his job the best in a Squad with many Sniper Operators sbsjs 🤔 (which my Squad often has!) so if you prefer using other Operator Classes more, he may not be as useful!

With both his Skills, he generates Deployment Points v quickly and particularly when equipped with his second Skill, he supports the other Operators on the Operation map 👍!

His Talent helps Sniper Operators by lots, reducing their Deployment Cost and increasing their ASPD when his Skills are activated!

And fifthly, last I want to suggest Lappland!

When I was a newer Arknights player and was still in the earlier phases of the game, I took her with me everywhere lololsbsj!

She offers lots and can do different things sgshs 🤔 She doesn't need much help to do as she needs to either!

Her second Skill converts her damage into Arts Damage for its duration, which enables her to output lots and lots of v large damage amounts ✨!!

Her Talent also gives her the ability to Silence the enemies she attacks, which is super useful and puts the enemies at a v large disadvantage 👍!

That's all five I wanted to talk about absjsh ✨! I do hope my advice helps you aaa 💞!!!

I agree with you. I honestly don’t think the writers knew how that would influence Alina’s character when they decided to have her burn those maps it was more about shoving Malina down the viewer’s throats which isn’t how you built your main character.The biggest problem with Alina in the books is that the narrative never really holds her accountable for the things she IS responsible for.Btw,I just saw another discussion about Alina running away and Aleksander collaring and I just wanted to add that both of them have heavy abandonment issues that make them act in possessive and/or unhealthy way. You have Alina who’s believed all her life she’s nothing and uses Mal as sort of a crutch to fulfil the needs her parents were unable to give her because they died. It takes her a lot of time to accept and love who she is because she’s not been able to form an identity as result of still being the little orphan craving love. With Aleksander it’s the other way around he’s been told by Baghra how love is weakness and he’s more important than anyone but he still craves love and companionship and because he’s lost so many people he cares about both because of time and the Grisha persecution when he finds Alina and starts to fall in love with her she represents a new life for him and he doesn’t want to let go of that.He reminds me of Anakin Skywalker from SW in some ways.

So first off let me apologise for how long it has taken me to answer your ask, I have been having some health issues and haven't been online much, but I am feeling a bit better now so I'm going to be going through my inbox and answering all the asks I've missed over the last few weeks, so sorry again.

Anyway, I agree with pretty much everything you have said here. I do think you are right about Alina burning the maps being solely about M*l, it was the writers basically going, look at how much she cares about him she's willing to risk her own life to save him and be with him. But unfortunately I don't think they really thought out the whole plot point about that leading to her having some responsibility over her friends' deaths. Which is a shame because it could have been an interesting point to explore.

I also agree with you about Alina never really being held accountable for her actions and the things she does have responsibility for. A small attempt is made in regards to her leaving the skiff behind in the fold as we do see Alina feeling some guilt about it and Genya at one point does call her out on it, but overall it seemed to me like whilst some effort was made to explore that moral dilemma, the narrative was still trying to send the message that it was ok for Alina to have sacrificed those 30-40 people on the skiff because, one they had supported the darkling so they deserved it and two, more importantly, it had saved M*l's life. Which is a terrible message to send that M*l's life was more important than anyone else's on that skiff. It is also that double standard because whilst we are told it was ok for the heroine to sacrifice those on the skiff for M*l we are also told that it is not ok for the darkling to sacrifice the people of Novokribirsk for the grisha, I think this contributes alot to the very confusing and mixed messaging that exists within the books.

In regards to both Aleks and Alina having abandonment issues I again agree with you, I do think that has lead them to become possessive and to make unhealthy relationship choices, both in their own relationship and their relationships with others. I also think its worth pointing out that whilst opposite scenarios both Alek's and Alina's situations are isolating in their own different ways. Alina is isolated because she is seen as a nobody, she is never seen as special prior to her discovery as the sun summoner and she doesn't have many friends, in the show her isolation is even worse because of her shu heritage so she is treated essentially like a pariah. In opposition to that, as you said, Aleks is told that he is special, more important than anyone else, but this is just as isolating as Alina being told she is a nobody. It is also interesting that both of them only have that one person they can really turn to for love and support (Baghra and M*l) and that in both instances those people don't actually give them the love that they want. Aleks wants his mother's love and affection and approval but never receives it as she only meets him with coldness. Alina wants M*l to show her romantic love but he is just completely oblivious to her feelings and she often feels overlooked by him. I do think that these feelings of abandonment, loneliness and isolation, particularly in the show, is a large part of what draws darklina to each other. For the first time when they reach out to another person for that love and affection and emotional support, the person they are reaching for reaches back. Alina supports Aleks just as Aleks supports Alina and I think this is the first time they really feel like they aren't alone and that there is someone who understands them and what they've gone through. Aleks can understand how Alina felt like a pariah and ostracised by her own people in a way that M*l can't because he too was pushed out by his own people just because of who he was, whereas M*l despite being part shu and part Zemeni was still able to pass as ravkan and was more accepted than Alina was. Both Aleks and Alina know what it feels like to not fit in at all. Therefore I think its perfectly understandable why Aleks doesn't want to let Alina go but also why they are both so hurt and heartbroken when that reveal comes and Alina runs.

I think your comparison of Aleks and Anakin is really interesting and I can definitely see where you are coming from. Anakin was a man who because he loved Padme so much and was so desperate to save her and their baby was lead down a dark path. Whilst his motives were sympathetic his actions were wrong and he does take it too far, but what makes Anakin's story so heartbreaking is how relatable it is and how you still have this sympathy towards the character even when he is doing terrible things, because who wouldn't want to save those they love at any cost. It was also obvious to see how much he was being manipulated into those actions and how him actually losing everything he loves, Padme, his baby, even Obi-wan, turns his heart cold and how he really does stop living. You can draw alot of parallels to Aleks here, he too commits morally grey acts out of desperation and love, his love and desperation to save the grisha. Just like Anakin it is easy to sympathise with Aleks' motives, because his motives are good, I also think that just like Anakin, losing so much over his long life has made his heart grow colder and more detached from anything, so like Anakin does he is living this kind of half life where he's just going through the motions and the only thing he really has to live for is his cause. Another parallel you can draw though is that both of these characters find a person that reawakens them, makes them feel again. For Anakin its his son, that reconnection he has with Luke in his dying moments. Anakin sacrifices himself to save Luke because seeing his son in danger reawakens that love in him, in that moment he once again becomes a father who wants to protect his child at any cost. For Aleks I really do think that person is Alina. As you said he begins to fall in love with her and she represents a new life for him, one that is filled with hope and I think after meeting her he becomes renewed and even more impassioned in his mission to save the grisha because this time he's not doing it alone because he has Alina who he sees as his equal and partner.

I think you’re really amazing!

I’m so relieved that you answer asks and discuss speculation because I really need someone to talk this through.

So, I have watched a couple of other thriller series along the same lines where the makers don’t have any issues killing off major characters off the show.

There are a couple of things that are happening in this show which I think (and I honest to god hope I’m wrong) are building up to them killing off Ressler.

They get together, they partially admit their feelings (which we’ve been waiting for too Damn long) - so they get closure. Ressler is in the hospital, they show him deteriorating, he goes into v-fib.

And all of this is not that much of a game changer but hear me out. The task force is being dismantled and they need to give the viewers sth that they won’t expect. And bring some new spice in s9. With Liz going full time into crime, it seems a lot easier for them to kill off Ressler.

My only counter debate to my point is that they would have killed him off the moment he got shot (like they did with Meera) rather than show him being treated.

I really need to know what you think. Please tell me he’s not gonna die cause honestly who on earth will watch the show then?

Hi there! I have to say a special thank you to you, @alrightygirl, and to my anon (above) who I have lumped in, for the shoutouts on my stories. I came to Tumblr in the first place during the hiatus between S2/S3 in part because I realized some of my fav fanfic authors (@aussieokie !) were here so I am especially happy to read this.

I'm not sure people realize how much we fanfic writers thrive on feedback, and especially on the multi chapter works we invested so much time into. So thank you, and I have to say I really am looking forward to the end of the season so I can step away from the BTS hunt and my inbox and get back to just creating. Hopefully the writers will leave things in a good place in 8.22 so there's plenty to work with. Ok, on to the substance of your ask and I'll put in a jump because I can already tell this is getting long.

I really do NOT think Ressler will die. I didn't think so before 8x19 and I still don't think so after the "medical drama" of 8x20. Because that's what I think they're doing - they're creating drama because it's the end of the season and they want people freaking out and guessing over who will survive. Call it the curse of cable, or thrillers or whatever, but we as audiences have been conditioned to believe that major characters have to die every year, even if it's pointless.

The thing is, The Blacklist has never been that show. They have killed three "main characters" in the life of the show. Meera in S1 (and I later read Parminder only had a one-year deal), Tom in S5 (with huge fanfare and foreshadowing and an entire "hero" arc following a failed spinoff with a new series eagerly awaiting him at NBC), and Samar in S6 after the actress specifically requested to be released from her contract after S5 and gave them time to write her character an appropriate conclusion arc which also had huge foreshadowing.

Could they go a different route this year? Sure. We're late in the life of the show and twists and cliffhangers and budgets all come into play but the thing is - I just still really don't see it when it comes to Ressler.

For me, the characters' perspective is always paramount. What purpose would Ressler's death serve? It would make Liz more upset (because, you know, Sam, Tom, Katarina, her sister, her whole team weren't enough?). And other than that......?

The audience already knows the gravity of the stakes. So does Liz. So does every other character. The only purpose Ressler's death would serve that I see (and to be clear, I am focusing only on the characters in the show not the irrational fandom hate for his character) is to "punish" Liz more, to make her feel worse about what she's done, to deal another body blow on top of all that she's suffered already.

I don't think Liz needs that. (I'm positive nearly all of Reddit disagrees).

She turned herself in to Cooper because she recognized the bloodshed needed to end after she FEARED losing him. She stayed by Ressler's side and spoke her entire speech in the hearse and by his unconscious side because she can't handle losing him too. This is exactly the scenario the writers teased when Eisendrath teased all those months ago that maybe he would use her feelings for him to get her to come back.

He didn't overtly "use" her feelings in the end because that is not Ressler. He is not that guy. But in the end, her feelings for him were EXACTLY why she turned herself in.

I don't think Liz doesn't need to be punished further or suffer more in anyone's eyes except those who still can't come to terms with her war against Red. I don't think the writers feel that way about her character. To the contrary, they introduced a hallucinated Kaplan to try to give her a pass and also had her give lengthy explanations to both Ressler and Aram defending her behavior. I think from all I have read and seen that the writers view Liz as a victim of circumstances caused by Red - something Cooper has also articulated to Panabaker along the way in defending why Liz has done what she's done under extraordinary circumstances. We can all agree or disagree on the why and the method and the extremes but the bottom line is that I think the writers still view Liz as more "victim" or "forced criminal" than diabolical villain so killing Ressler, on top of everyone else Liz has lost, is just another deep blow on top of all the blows that have turned her into who she is. I think we're past the point that that is necessary and we'll be even further past that point after 8.21/8.22 when Liz learns some truths.

This has gotten crazy long so I'll just add these final thoughts which I have also articulated in prior posts:

- I think if the writers were going to write out Ressler - an original character from the Pilot - they would do so with more hype and fanfare and story than what he's gotten this season. Sure he was present in 8x19 a lot but it was really Liz's story. She was the heroine saving him and moving them from place to place while he suffered. I think the writers have enough respect for Diego to give him at least as much substantial story as Tom and Samar got in their sendoffs if this was really the end. He's a good guy and a good character and he deserves more than for his final moments to be a quiet fade to black in Vfib in a hospital with only Park present (or even Liz present for a final, vague, goodbye). A show that can't do that isn't a show I'm interested in watching, you know?

- his agents congratulated him on the S9 renewal back when it was announced. Hardly an indicator that a major character is getting jettisoned.

-You'd also think, if he was leaving this season, that he'd be doing more to elevate his profile on social media like he did at the end of Homeland to gear up for a new gig. He's done NOTHING.

-Finally, there has been literally nothing in JB's recent interview with The Blacklist Exposed, any of the BTS, the press, the episode descriptions, the crew photos, or anything else to date to indicate that a major actor/character is leaving. I know people can hide the ball but usually in this show, something slips through. So far - nothing. (No, I don't take Megan's thank you's or wrap party photos that way).

Anyway, hopefully we'll all be here at this time next year (or a few weeks earlier if things are back to normal), analyzing S9 and all that has happened. Thanks for the ask!

Ahahaha I know y’all have seen Villain x Hero tropes a ton and I saw a post and thought “What if I wrote some Villain x Sidekick prompts? Ahahaha jkjk... Unless? 😳” also, Angst Ahoy mateys :’3

Villain x Sidekick Prompts & Dialogue

-The Villain has a massive crush on the Hero’s Sidekick, and as a result sets up lots of harmless traps meant for two people so Hero is forced to drag their Sidekick along to defeat Villain. One day the Hero shows up by themself and Villain is confused and disappointed. Hero is confused out of their mind until Villain explains their problem about their sidekick. Bonus if Hero becomes a wingman and allows Villain to take them hostage for Sidekick to come save them.

-The Villain is about to win. They have the Hero right where they want them and can easily kill them while the Sidekick watches. Villain is just about to destroy the Hero until the Sidekick breaks down crying and Villain takes pity on them. Alternate timeline where Villain does kill the Hero and takes in the Sidekick as an attempt to comfort them.

-The Villain takes the Sidekick hostage, hoping to trap the Hero when they arrive. Weeks and even months pass when the Sidekick is put through torture waiting for their Hero to save them, and the Villain realizes that the Hero doesn’t care enough to come save them. The Villain then takes pity on the Sidekick and trains them to become their own sidekick, and begins to fall for the strong, independent person they’re now becoming under their wing.

-The Villain and Sidekick have been dating for a while, and the Hero has absolutely no idea. But in the back of their mind they always wonder why their Sidekick refuses to hurt the Villain. It isn’t until the Hero corners the Villain and the Sidekick is desperately begging for them not to hurt them. Alternate timeline where the Hero does find out that the Sidekick and Villain are dating, but hurts/kills the Villain anyways because they believe the Villain is trying to manipulate the Sidekick. Angsty bonus if the Villain was a genuinely good person.

-Sidekick is extremely smart, and as a result the Villain sets up a lot of puzzles relating to academics/street smarts. The Hero is also not the brightest so they have no other choice in dragging along Sidekick to face the Villain, which makes the Villain giddy inside whenever they see Sidekick.

-“Look, I can explain-“

“I don’t think there’s a possible way you could explain blowing up the city to ask me out on a date.”

-“You simply look divine, my dear.”

“You have me tied to a metal stretcher. What part of that is divine?”

-“You’re holding it wrong, see. You’re supposed to hold it in this hand and guide it with this.”

-“It’s funny actually. The longer I’m waiting for (Hero), the more I’m thinking I don’t want them to come, y’know?”

-“...You did nothing but serve them and keep them happy. Why do they treat you like this?”

-“Admit it. They’re never coming back for you. All you are to them is a meat shield.”

“Yeah, I kinda know that.”

“...What?”

-“Where are they?”

“Where is who?”

“Your... sidekick.”

I mean I think lwj has a very strong moral compass and like in cql you have the 'lantern scene' the 'no clothes/shared robes scene' and the one with Lan yi to show how strong wwx's moral compass also was, giving a plausible reason as to why lwj would fall for him. What are some moments in mdzs to suggest the same (why lwj would fall for wwx) thanks!

Hello! Hope you’re having a good day! I’m so sorry for taking so long, your ask got lost in my inbox and I just recently re-discovered it. T_T Please forgive me!

A good proportion of the fandom subscribe to the theory of LWJ falling in love at first sight fight. Personally, while I think LWJ was definitely intrigued by WWX initially, the true depths of his love only emerged later. In other words, LWJ’s love for WWX deepened naturally and gradually.

From what we know, LWJ grew up without much of a childhood. LWJ had never known what it was like to be a carefree child exploring the world around him, or a hot-blooded youth living his best life. WWX’s appearance filled the hole in his life that his stifled childhood created. exactly. WWX’s positivity, enthusiasm, warmth, passion, and arrogance were characteristics that LWJ had never seen in someone else, and for the first time, LWJ realised that there was another way to lead one’s life, one unbridled by traditions and expectations.

The allure of the unknown is always tempting. In the early stages of their association, LWJ was initially attracted to WWX because WWX represented the unknown. WWX was so wildly different from what he had known his whole life that he couldn’t help but take an interest. LXC had definitely noticed LWJ’s attraction – from as early as the events of Biling Lake, LXC already sensed that LWJ treated WWX differently, and said it as such: “而且，你不是愿意让他去吗? / And, also, you wish for him to go as well, do you not?” Even Jiang Cheng noticed LWJ paying special attention to WWX, telling WWX: “错。不是‘我们’，是‘我’。我看他盯的就只有你一个人。/ Wrong. Not ‘us’, but ‘me’. I think the only person he’s watching is you.”

From the initial intrigue and attraction came a stronger liking and love when LWJ discovered the other positive attributes of WWX. Over time, WWX proved himself to be a very capable cultivator, whose physical and mental prowess are on par with LWJ’s. Perhaps more importantly for LWJ, from WWX standing up to JZX for JYL, rescuing SS at Biling Lake, to sacrificing himself to save LQY at Xuanwu Cave, LWJ saw an innate compassion and moral rightness in WWX that mirrored his own. In the Xuanwu Cave arc, LWJ also saw for himself the care and concern that WWX had for him, such as when WWX offered to carry him and used the medicinal herbs to heal LWJ’s injuries despite being injured himself. Love is a secret until it is spoken aloud; perhaps, by humming Wangxian and revealing its name to WWX, the Xuanwu Cave was also when LWJ admitted to himself that he was in love, and truly embraced his feelings towards WWX.

This is why following the events of Xuanwu Cave, we stop seeing LWJ rebuff WWX in the ways that he did previously. We start seeing even more tangible examples of LWJ’s love and devotion to WWX, such as searching for WWX alongside JC for 3 months, wanting to hide WWX in Cloud Recesses much like what his father did for his mother, and spiriting WWX away from Nightless City and injuring 33 of his elders in his bid to protect WWX.

I shall conclude this with a Chinese saying: “路遥知马力，日久见人心 / A horse's strength will be known via long distance travel, whilst a person's heart will be revealed in time.” I think it applies very well here. I don’t think there’s a specific ‘aha!’ moment in the novel for LWJ. Instead, I believe that WWX’s great depth of character, revealed to LWJ over time, was what caused LWJ to fall gradually and deeply for WWX.

i'm like, 90% sure all of the anons in my inbox right now are actually the same person so, if that's you, i'm just going to answer all of your mister impossible questions in this post since there are a lot of them and this is going to be really very extremely long

i don't know why she's awake but i don't think it's the painting, because at the end of the book she's outside declan's apartment, not her own. i guess it's possible that she succeeded in making the painting a sweetmetal powerful enough to sustain her even there, but i feel like there's probably a different explanation. i've seen theories that she's inadvertently made herself into a sweetmetal by finally seeing herself as her own person rather than just a copy of hennessy, which is interesting

"And the things about the ley line Idgi? Hennessy wants to stop the power but for what"

i think hennessy thinks shutting down the ley line is the best (or even only) way to get rid of the lace. she hates herself for the lace to the extent that she doesn't even want to live anymore, so of course that's her primary motivation. she feels hopeless so long as the lace has power. she's desperate

"Why did he think adam was in on declans plan? I think the "oh" was more like oh you want to come with bryde of course...."

the "oh" is in response to ronan saying "i'm calling now. i need to see you", before there's even any mention of bryde. adam says "you're here? oh", not "you're here? why are you here?" the fact that he didn't ask why ronan was in town, the fact that he said an "oh" of realization instead, implied that he already knew why ronan was in town. and he could have only known by speaking to declan. i think it was a reasonable conclusion on ronan's part

"Ronan are you being serious????? Why should Adam/Declan drop everything and come fight with you - they didnt even know where you are, they don't know the plan. Then you accuse them of that Moderators plan without questioning them. i mean, i think you hit the nail on the head when you said "he thinks everyone is against them." for a long time, he's been struggling with feeling alone, like he's a burden, like the people he loves don't really understand him. he's never had a healthy relationship with another dreamer, so it makes sense that he feels so isolated from literally everyone he cares about. and now he just found out two of the most important people in his life went behind his back to conspire against him (even if he doesn't have confirmation about adam, declan does admit to it over the phone) which is just...salt on a wound he's had since he was a kid. i'm not saying he's in the right, but i do understand why his immediate reaction was what it was. when you've been hurt like that, it takes some time before you can like, calm down and reconsider your own role in the situation

i mean, i don't know how much we can believe what bryde says, but when he reveals himself as being ronan's dream he basically says that everything that he (bryde) wants, ronan already subconsciously wanted before he even dreamt him. that bryde wants it because ronan wanted it. to admit that bryde is in the wrong, ronan would have to admit he, himself, is in the wrong, too, and that's not easy. especially because a lot of his motivation is saving matthew and not wanting to live with the weight of matthew's life on his conscious anymore. especially because he's felt alone for so long, and now he just found out the first dreamer to truly make him feel less alone is his own creation. he's hurting. a lot. he will admit to being wrong in the third book, i think, but like i mentioned above, that kind of growth takes some time

i mean, i think ronan sees the purpose. here are his thoughts, directly quoted from chapter 17 when bryde is talking about restoring the ley lines:

"A world where Matthew could just live. A world where Ronan could just dream. A world where every dream was clear and crisp and easy to navigate, so there were never accidents or nightmares. He wanted it."

he wants, as i mentioned above, for matthew's life to not be reliant on his own (which i understand. that's a really heavy knowledge to live with.) he also just wants to be able to exist wherever he wants and with whomever he wants (thinking, for example, about how he wasn't able to get an apartment in boston in cdth), without constantly worrying that the nightwash is going to kill him. poor guy just wants a normal life

this is interesting. now that you mention it, i don't think we do. supposedly he dreams the orbs, but i can't recall ever seeing that happen? i could be wrong, though

i think ronan is a much, much more powerful dreamer than any of the others. there's something...More about him. something special about being the greywaren. i don't know what it is, specifically, but i anticipate that's something we'll find out in the final book, and i expect it'll explain why the nightwash affects him more than it does the others

i don't know! i think the most popular theory right now is that it was nathan farooq-lane. i'm not sure how that works, though, since they killed nathan and bryde took the sweetmetal off of lock pretty early in the book (unless nathan isn't actually dead, somehow) (or bryde is nathan, which is another popular theory). another theory is that it was ronan. like, he was feeling so alone and misunderstood that he accidentally dreamt his own persecutors? or it's possible that they were all just dreamt by random dreamers and that's why they felt strongly enough about the "cause" to become moderators, but that's kind of boring

yeah, and, i mean, according to liliana's visions, they have the power to end the world

i think when people say there's no pynch, they just mean that there's very minimal pynch interaction, specifically. because, yeah, even though they're both constantly thinking about each other, it is true that we only get one moment of them actually interacting (the phone call), and it's obviously not a positive interaction

i don't think anyone actually thinks they'll break up. at least, i haven't seen anyone say that and i've been feverishly reading everything under the mister impossible tag, so

okay, first off, i will say, as someone who grew up poor and, like adam, absolutely busted my ass in high school to get a good scholarship so i could go to college, the relief of actually getting that scholarship is...powerful. my financial anxiety definitely didn't disappear once that happened, but there was, at least in my experience, this feeling of "i made it, it's going to be okay now" that made it a little easier to spend money. i don't think it's that unrealistic that he, now having the security of a harvard education, would spend fourteen dollars on something he doesn't need every once in a while. it would be completely out of character for henrietta adam, yes, but it's a bit different now. plus, it wouldn't suit his faux Harvard Adam persona to refuse the waffle because of how much it costs

i think his friends are all a lot more well-off than he is. it was just that they didn't have any cash on them and the waffle truck didn't take card (also realistic, i never have cash on me so i always have to ask someone to spot me when a place turns out to be cash-only)

i think (a) they all look up to him because he has this really calm, cool and collected persona. more importantly, we can assume that they were all struggling with something when he met each of them, since they were all crying. now in swoops this guy who saw them upset and came to comfort and befriend them. of course they see him as something like a hero. and (b) i think he likes that. in high school, he was the one being rescued, not the one rescuing. i think he enjoys being the kind of person he used to wish he could be (ie. gansey. he's being gansey)

we only have jordan's perspective at the end, so when she thinks that it was clear declan had come out of his apartment looking for her, i don't think that necessarily means he wasn't also looking for matthew. i don't think it's fair to say that, in that moment, he should prioritize either matthew or jordan. he loves two dreams, so he can and should be concerned for both of them equally. i don't think one love is inherently more important than the other just because it's lasted longer or because it's family
