Pairing: Serim x fem!reader

Summary: A cute unboxing with Serim over facetime, which ends in a jealous boyfriend.

Cravity had just released their new comeback, Master:piece, and like the supportive girlfriend you were, you bought three versions of the album.

Since the group was currently abroad, in LA to be exact, you would have to FaceTime Serim to show him the unboxing. To be honest, you were excited to open them, since you saw the photocards on twitter and liked how cute all of them looked, especially your boyfriend.

You were sitting on the floor of your living room, in front of your coach, waiting for the boy to pick up.

“Hi, baby!”

“Hi, princess! I miss you.” Serim greeted with a smile and then pouted. He was sitting on the sand.

“Me too. When are you coming back?”

“In a couple of weeks.”

“Sounds like a long time.” You laughed.

“It is but I promise it’ll go by fast.”

“I hope so. But anyway, this wasn’t the reason why I called you.”

“Oh, so you didn’t want to see your cute boyfriend and tell him how much you miss him?” Serim acted offended.

“I obviously did but I actually wanted to show you this.” You showed him the albums.

The black haired smiled. “You do know I could have given them to you, right?”

“Oh, shush. I just wanted to support you.” You stuck your tongue out making him laugh more. “Anyway, I wanted to open them with you.”

“You’re so cute, babe.”

Your cheeks turned red as you smiled. “I know.”

You opened the first album, taking all of its inclusions and putting them aside. You looked through the photobook, admiring the pictures in it.

“Okay, but this is so aesthetic. I love this concept.” You spoke after a moment.

“It is! They did a great job.”

“You look so handsome in this picture, love.” Now it was Serim’s time to blush.

“Only on that one?” He teased.

“In each and every one.”

You closed the photobook after you finished and grabbed the inclusions. You looked at them before grabbing the pcs.

“Okay, here’s the moment of truth.” You turned them around and smiled when you saw them.

“Who did you get? I bet it’s me.”

“Nop, I got Minhee with Woobin and Seongmin!” You showed him. “So cute.”

“Mine are cuter.” You heard him whisper.

“What?” You tried not to laugh.

“Nothing.”

“Serim, are you jealous?”

“What? No, I’m not!”

You raised an eyebrow.

“Maybe.”

“You look so adorable when you’re jealous.” He covered his face with his hands, trying to hide how red he was. “And look, maybe I’ll pull your pc in the next album or the next one.”

But that didn’t happen, you pulled Jungmo with Hyeongjun and Taeyoung and Allen with Woobin.

“Third times the charm?” You asked before turning the pc, making Serim laugh.

“More like the 6th but okay.”

To your surprise, you did pull his’. Making you really happy.

“Oh my god, baby! Look! I did it.” You had a big smile on your face. “You look super handsome, love.”

He giggled. “Thank you, princess.”

“I’m gonna change the pc of my phone, give me a sec.” You grabbed the phone that was on the table in front of you and removed your phone case. Exchanging your current pc with the new one. You put it on your leg while adjusting the other on your case.

“Almost done.” You said.

“Who’s pc is that? Is that… Yeonjun?”

“Pff, no!” You said nervously while putting you phone where it was before.

He only raised an eyebrow.

“Okay, maybe!”

“Babyyy.” He whined.

“What? You know he’s my bias.”

“Yeah, but I’m your boyfriend!”

“Soooo?”

“You should have me.” He crossed his arms, pouting, again.

“I already have you as my wallpaper, and now on the back of my phone too.”

“I know. I’ll forgive you this time.”

“Oh my, thank you.” You rolled your eyes playfully. “I love you, you big baby.”

“I love you, too princess. See you soon.” He send you a smile and a kiss.

“Bye, baby.”

You shook your head, smiling. He’s so dramatic, he’s lucky he is cute.

A wee rant.

I used to follow a bunch of pages on twitter and reddit for phone and desktop wallpapers. I like to change them frequently for no real reason. It's like the digital version of rearranging a room, I just get the urge out of nowhere.

Anyway, most of these pages have allowed users to submit AI generated images... just typing that sentence gives me a dull headache. I can't use these pages now without having scroll past hundreds of posts full of AI slop.

I will not however let this anger me (anymore). Instead I have started drawing my own wallpapers. I'll share some of them here and I encourage other artists to do the same.

I have no idea how many people will see this but please, join in. Share your art, or suggest ideas for fun wallpapers. We will be home screen homies (shut up it's late).

Reminder: If you don't want Tumblr feeding your art into a meat grinder for AI douchebags to steal go to settings > visibility and opt out.

☆ Simdew Challenge ☆

"Have you ever wanted to live out your idyllic Stardew Valley farming dreams in The Sims 4? Well, here is the challenge for you! I have done my best to match up Sims 4 gameplay elements with Stardew Valley achievements and goals (noted in [brackets]). The main rules are Sims 4 Base Game friendly, but there are optional challenges you can complete if you have the corresponding expansion/game/stuff packs. Feel free to add any additional gameplay you want to include from other Sims packs you have!

If you want to play along, share your Sims and builds to the gallery or social media using #SimdewChallenge, and tag me on Twitter @simageunknown! I do know that there have been other Sims/Stardew challenges, but this is my version. Enjoy!"

Farmer:

Start with one sim farmer and dress them however you like. (Occults allowed.)

Pick any traits for your farmer that you think will help with the challenge (ex: Loves Outdoors, Animal Enthusiast). You can assign likes and dislikes or choose them during gameplay.

Complete the Friend of the World aspiration. [Meet Every Villager/The Beloved Farmer/Popular]

(optional) Complete any other Nature aspiration of your choice (ex: Country Caretaker, Freelance Botanist, Angling Ace, Outdoor Enthusiast, The Curator, etc.).

(optional) Set your seasons to 28 days. [Stardew seasons are 28 days.]

(optional) Start in Spring season. [Stardew always begins in Spring.]

Turn off aging. [Farmers do not age in Stardew Valley.]

Don’t forget to manually age up your Sims and/or their children.

(optional) You can turn off Animal Aging in Game Options. [Animals do not age or die in Stardew.]

If you want to set your lifespan to long, you can use Potions of Youth.

Build a tiny farmhouse with a mailbox and trash can. If you do not want to build a starter farmhouse, I have uploaded a base game one to my gallery. Gallery link: Simdew Starter Farmhouse, origin ID eimajunknown. If you use mine, you can change the wallpaper and furniture swatches, but do not replace the furniture yet. (See Miscellaneous Gameplay Options for house upgrade guidelines).

Live on any lot in any world, but a bigger lot is better for farming and multiple animals. You can start small and move to bigger lots as you earn money, or you can start on a big lot.

Purchase one packet of Starter Vegetables. [15 starter parsnips]

After building or placing your home and purchasing your Starter Vegetables, set your money to 500 simoleons. [Stardew starting funds are 500 gold.]

Pick any Lot Traits you want (ex: Great Soil, Homey, Chef’s Kitchen).

Pick at least one Lot Challenge. I recommend Simple Living because in Stardew Valley, you have to have the ingredients to cook.

Do not have a real job, but odd jobs are allowed. [Special Orders Bulletin Board]

(optional) Register with the Ministry of Labor as a Farmer or Homesteader.

Get married (three days after your engagement), and have at least two kids (adoption allowed). [A Full House]

Delete the money you get from your spouse, as Stardew spouses bring $0. If your spouse has a job, quit it and have them help you on the farm.

(optional) Attend festivals in Henford-on-Bagley, San Myshuno and Mt. Komorebi.

(optional) Participate in weekly Finchwick Fair contests. [Stardew Valley Fair Grange Display]

(optional) Offer help with errands for Henford-on-Bagley residents. [A Big Help]

Max the video game skill. [Journey of the Prairie King/Junimo Cart]

Max the cooking skill.

(optional) Max the baking skill.

(optional) Max the gourmet cooking skill. [Gourmet Chef]

Earn 1 million simoleons through farming, animal products and selling collectibles. [Millionaire]

(optional) Earn 9,999,999 simoleons. [Gold Clock]

Farming/Foraging:

Purchase seeds either by foraging or purchasing them from vendors. [Pierre]

You can use sprinklers.

Earn enough simoleons (50K) to build a nice greenhouse on your lot (big enough for 12-16 garden boxes and a few trees). Use any excess funds on landscaping, if you want. [Greenhouse]

Grow one money tree. [Ancient Fruit]. You can purchase it with satisfaction points or at a vendor stalls. You may have more money trees if you are trying to earn 9,999,999 simoleons.

Max the gardening skill. [Farming skill]

(optional) Grow every vegetable, mushroom, fruit and flower. [Full Shipment]

(optional) Max the herbalism skill. [Foraging Skill]

(optional) Have a Patchy. [Collect all scarecrows]

Fishing/Animals:

(optional) Have one of each animal or critter (cat, dog, rodent, cow, llama, chicken, bees, grubs).

(optional) When you purchase chickens, buy them in the baby stage like in Stardew. Sadly, this does not apply to llamas and cows. Note: Chicks do not grow up with aging off, so you can play with animal aging on until they grow up.

(optional) Befriend a rabbit, a fox and a flock of birds, and place a rabbit house and a bird house on your farm.

(optional) Have a fish tank and a duck pond (swans are also allowed).

Max the fishing skill. [Fishing skill]

(optional) Catch every fish. [Master Angler]

(optional) Breed or catch every frog. [Slime Hutch]

(optional) Catch every insect.

Mining/Combat/Collecting:

Explore caves/secret lots in various worlds (Willow Creek, Oasis Springs, Granite Falls, Selvadorada, Mt. Komorebi). [Mining skill]

Max the handiness skill.

(optional) Craft every item on the woodworking table. [Craft Master]

Max the fitness skill. [Combat skill]

(optional) Find every metal, crystal and fossil. [Complete Collection/Local Legend]

(optional) Find every MySims trophy by digging rocks OR find every space print using the observatory. [Mystery of the Stardrops]

(optional) Collect all postcards. [Secret Notes]

Feel free to complete any other collections for an additional challenge.

Miscellaneous Gameplay Options:

Is it morning and your sim is still exhausted? You can use the “fill all needs” cheat, but you must deduct $1,000 simoleons from your money. [Joja/Doctor Harvey rescue] You can also spend satisfaction points to use moodlet solvers.

When you get the inheritance phone call, please select either option 2 (“Under What Conditions?” for 2,500 simoleons) or option 3 (“No Thanks…” for 0 simoleons). [Free money from parents/Mayor Lewis]

You may purchase lottery tickets. [Calico Desert Casino]

You may Dumpster Dive for food/furniture. [Trash cans]

You may keep the money you win from festivals.

You may use Tiny Home boosts.

To upgrade/expand your house, save simoleons [Living Large]. You can follow these guidelines OR upgrade at your own pace as you earn money:

Full kitchen with a nice refrigerator, a stove, multiple counters for family cooking and decorations (10,000 simoleons)

Two bedrooms and two full bathrooms (can add to existing bathroom) (20,000 simoleons)

A basement with a den and an office/study (30,000 simoleons)

Community Center:

If the above rules weren’t enough and you want to go hard into the Stardew Valley lifestyle, why not also complete the Community Center? You may build your own Community Center as a generic lot, or you can download my base game one. Gallery link: Simdew Community Center, Origin ID: eimajunknown. Place the non-perishable items your sim collects on the purple pedestals in the basement; plant the crops, flowers and trees in the backyard; and put the perishable items in the refrigerator in the kitchen. hey there, everyone ♪ welcome to a yet another prosekai edit blog!! there are a lot of them already, howeveeeer— my main priority for starting this blog is to have an archive for my own edits ★ i haven't done them in a long time and i wanted to start anew, so they might not be the best, but i'm doing it just for fun!! i don't have a main blog for the time being and i'm still figuring out tumblr again, but i hope we can get along well ww

any transparents that aren't the in-game transparents are gonna be by @/prsk2dmv-transparents and @/sekaitransparents!! will be crediting them whenever i use them, but if i ever forget then the credit is here ~

WHAT CAN I DO

icons: only square ones for now. these can contain either card icons (icon that is just a close-up of the card, optionally with some touch-ups), general icons (icon of a character on a certain background, mostly of a monochrome color) and pride icons (icon of a character on a pride flag, although i want to try making icons with disability flags as well). i won't do gif icons, though, or at least not for now ):

twitter layouts: a set containing an icon (please specify which one from the icons above) and a twitter header; the types of headers are general headers (containing the requested character/pairing on a certain background; works with pride flags as well), picture headers (headers that are a picture fitting the icon) and mixed headers (made from three pictures — two fitting the icon and one containing the character/pairing)

WHAT I MIGHT DO

moodboards: either open ones (where every picture is separated) or closed ones (where everything is in one picture). if you choose a closed one, i will as well do two versions; one with only pictures used in the moodboard and one with a requested character/pairing on top of it.

stimboards: nothing to say in this one, just that i might deny the request when i won't be able to find good gifs. you can send me gifs you want to see in the stimboard, though

wallpapers: either phone or pc ones, specified size would be appreciated. similiar to icons, these can contain either card wallpapers (preferably only to be requested for phone wallpapers), general wallpapers and pride wallpapers. i might experiment with some of them, however!

tumblr layouts: not too confident in making these, but i might as well try. works the same way as twitter layouts, but the only header type is gonna be a general header

reply icons: also not too confident with these, but work the same way as normal icons. they're just uhh shaped like reply icons you know.

We visited the MIT Museum, a must-see for Tyler, with his interest in robotics and technology.MIT Museum | Best Things to Do in BostonThis is a small museum and takes about an hour for a visit. Holograms, robots, and scientific prototypes fill this museum.#9 Acorn StreetAcorn Street | Best Things to Do in BostonQuick to visit, a walk on this narrow, cobblestoned street is like stepping back in time. Located in Beacon Hill, a walk on Acorn Street can be combined with visits to nearby Boston Public Garden and the Cheers bar.#10 Boston Public GardenThe Boston Public Garden sits right next to Boston Common. The Boston Public Garden is gorgeous. This was not what we had in mind at all.If you are looking for a bar with a more local vibe, this is not your place. But if you are a Cheers fan or want to check it out, pop in for a drink or take a photo.There is a second Cheers location in Boston at the Faneuil Hall Marketplace. This bar opened in 2001 and is a replica of the TV set.#12 Mapparium: See the World like it’s 1935We loved this!!The Mapparium is a three-story stained glass globe that was constructed in 1935. The map has never been updated, so you can see the world with its political boundaries as it was before World War II.From a glass catwalk that spans the globe, view the globe from the inside out. I felt like I could stare at this map forever; it was just so fascinating to see just how much the world has changed.Mapparium | Best Things to Do in BostonOne of the coolest parts about the Mapparium is the acoustics. This is a ��whispering gallery,” where one person whispers and people at the other end of the bridge can hear what they are saying. It’s wild and makes this visit even more fun.Location: Mary Baker Eddy Library#13 Go Whale WatchingJust off the coast of Cape Cod is the Stellwagen Bank Marine Sanctuary, a feeding site for humpback whales, right whales, dolphins, and other marine life. This can be a quick visit if you just wander through the library or you could spend hours here. They even offer guided tours.Location: 700 Boylston StreetCost: Free!#17 New England Holocaust MemorialThe New England Holocaust Memorial is dedicated to the six million Jewish people who were killed in Nazi Germany during World War II. Visitors walk through six glass towers. Engraved on the glass panels of the towers are the identification numbers of those killed during the Holocaust.New England Holocaust Memorial | Best Things to Do in BostonWe visited the Holocaust Memorial during the afternoon of August 14. Just a few hours later the Memorial was vandalized. A 17-year-old man threw a rock at the Memorial, breaking one of the glass panels.We returned the following day. Flowers and candles now stood in front of the missing glass panel and the Memorial was being guarded by police officers. Filled with food vendors and small shops, this is a bit touristy, but it is also a great place to get good, cheap food. With its central location in Boston, this makes a great spot to grab a bite to eat while you are touring the city.#22 Walk or Jog along the Charles River EsplanadeCharles River Esplanade | Best Things to Do in BostonThe Charles River Esplanade is a walking trail along the Charles River, located near the Back Bay region. From here, enjoy views across the Charles River to Cambridge.#23 Take a Brewery TourWhile in Boston, you have the option to tour the Samuel Adams Brewery or the Harpoon Brewery. Both breweries are located a bit far from the city center of Boston, but you can get here by taxi or Uber. The Samuel Adams Brewery is located near the Stony Brook station on the MBTA orange line.#24 The Boston Marathon Finish LineThe Boston Marathon has always been a historic running event, but this site became even better known after the Boston bombing that occurred during the 2013 Boston Marathon. The finish line is permanently painted on Boylston Street, just outside of the Boston Public Library.#25 Newbury and Marlborough StreetsIn Back Bay, spend some time walking through the neighborhoods on Newbury Street, Marlborough Street, and Commonwealth Avenue. It’s a beautiful area for a quick stroll or a leisurely afternoon of sightseeing.#26 Boston Tea Party Ships and MuseumThe Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum is a 75-minute tour that takes visitors on an interactive learning experience about the Boston Tea Party. Learn about the events leading up to this historic night, tour a replica of one of the merchant vessels, and even throw the tea overboard. This is a tour that is great for kids and adults.Location: Congress Street Bridge#27 The JFK Presidential Library and MuseumThis museum is a great place to learn about the life of President John F. Kennedy. It is filled with videos and artifacts from his life and the 1960’s. This museum has a spectacular setting right on the waterfront.Location: Columbia Point. Get here via the MBTA Red Line or by car#28 The North EndThe North End is Boston’s “Little Italy.” During the afternoons and evenings, this area gets very lively, as people flock to the numerous restaurants and bars. We were no different, and we ate here a lot. Some of our favorite places were Regina Pizzeria, Neptune Oyster, Mike’s Pastry, and Giacomo’s.Paul Revere’s House | Best Things to Do in BostonAlso in the North End are Paul Revere’s house and the Old North Church. Both are located on the Freedom Trail and they are places definitely worth visiting because of their historical importance. The Old North Church is where the lanterns were hung on Paul Revere’s famous midnight ride.#29 The New England AquariumThe Aquarium is a fun place to visit, especially if you are traveling with kids. Our favorite exhibits were the penguins and we were here right during feeding time. Various IMAX movies are offered throughout the day and you can participate in one of the animal encounter activities.Location: 1 Central Wharf#30 The Boston Public MarketNot to be confused with the Quincy Market and the Faneuil Hall Marketplace, the Boston Public Market is wonderful. This is the place to go for fresh produce, gourmet pastries, amazing donuts, and homemade bread. This market is quieter and has more of an upscale feel to it than Faneuil Hall Marketplace. I really liked it here and I will be back the next time I get to Boston.Organizing Your TimeSo, that’s a lot to do in Boston, right? James had asked specifically before he did what he did if it was okay. You love him and think it's sweet that he wants to, so you tell him to make sure he uses a good picture.

Some huge magazine had asked him to do a video for their website. You know vaguely when it gets uploaded because suddenly friends and even acquaintances are texting you repetitively. It's not long after that when The Marauders superfans start requesting to follow your twitter account. You'd set it to private beforehand, though there was nothing of interest there anyways, only retweets and Spotify links. You're glad you did when the notifications start and don't stop.

You turn off your phone and open up your laptop, navigating to the magazine's website, where the front page boasts your pretty boyfriend's face right at the top. You click the video link and wait for it to load, heartbeat as quick as a mouse's.

The introduction is quick. James sits behind a white table wearing a black, nondescript short-sleeved t-shirt. His fancy watch catches the light as he leans forward. "Hey, I'm James Potter from the rock band The Marauders, and today I'll be showing you guys what's in my bag."

He picks up a much cleaner version of his rucksack, new for the shoot. His actual rucksack sits at the bottom of your bed. You move your socked feet out of the way so you can compare it to the fraud on screen. It'll be fun to poke fun at him tonight over his lies.

There's not a lot of guidance to the video. He takes things out one at a time and gives some story behind them. There's a battered pair of drumsticks and a cleaner pair swiftly follows. James goes through them quickly, so a spare is always a good idea. The drumsticks are followed by a piece of drum gum in a plastic case, and a wrist brace for his dicky left arm.

He pulls out his chapstick with a subtle smirk.

"And my book," he says, pulling out a messed up paperback. You roll your eyes when you see it because it's not his book at all, it's yours, and he's wrecked it completely.

A bookmark sticks out about halfway through. "I got this recommended to me by a very pretty girl. Beautiful women seem to always have the best taste in books. I don't have to tell you guys," he says with a wink. He puts the book with everything else he's unveiled so far. "And it's a damn good book."

You flush warm with pleasure.

He pulls out some amazingly expensive headphones, an adapter for his electric drum kit, a different pair of noise cancelling headphones, his custom earplugs, his phone charger – again, new for the shoot – and a familiar notebook.

"This is for everything." He pulls it open to a random page and broadcasts what's clearly not his own handwriting. "I hate transcribing. Remus has done it for me here," he confides. "You have to love him."

You can imagine the twitter uproar as fans sing the band's bassist's praises. You do have to love Remus, he's an angel, and you'll have to have a word with James about taking advantage of his friend's kindness.

He turns it to another page. There's a sketch there of a tree you don't really recognise. James draws a lot, more than you could ever keep track of. He's even painted you a landscape or two in heavy gauche before, gifts with awfully sweet dedications on the back.

He's very good. "For sketching and things. This was a sycamore outside of the Point House arena. It had those helicopter seeds falling from it. You remember when you'd pick those up as a kid and throw them back up into the air?"

The camera person says something and James nods passionately. "Right, we'd have races too! Simpler times."

It cuts to James pulling out his wallet and his phone. They ask to see his phone wallpaper and he obliges. It's a photo of him and Sirius as kids. They could only be thirteen or fourteen in the photograph, but already Sirius holds his wicked charm like a knife, a sharp smile and a sharper gaze, though his arm around James shoulder is languidly placed.

"Yep, he's always been like that."

And finally, his wallet. It's nothing fancy. You can't afford anything as quality as he could himself but he hasn't tried to replace it since you bought it. He peels it open and makes a joke about nobody stealing his identity.

He smiles wide. "Here's the most important thing in my bag. No, not my card."

He pulls a piece of white paper from the fold between deft fingers and then turns it to reveal you, a photo of you.

You'll admit you look pretty. There's nothing fanciful to it, just you giving him a soft smile with your hair done up, your head tilting ever so slightly toward your lifted shoulder.

"This is my girl." He pulls your photo toward him and looks down over the top, no bravado, no charming comment. He smiles at you. "Doesn't she look nice here?"

The camera person says something again. James looks up, waiting for them to finish before he grins.

"Yeah, this is my girlfriend. Y/N."

There's subtitles for the camera person's next question. "This is the first time you've talked about having a partner publicly. Why now?"

The truth is just the unfortunate consequence of fame. Smear campaigns, hatemail, paparazzi, invasions of privacy. But you can't hide forever. And it feels nice – feels incredible, like your cheeks might bruise from the ache of your smile – to be shown off.

"'Cos I wanna take her on vacation for our six months, and I want the first photo people see of her to be this one, rather than her drooling on my arm in the airport."

You laugh.

"Six months, you've been together?" the camera person asks.

"And counting. Best six months of my life."

The interview moves on. There's a few layover shots of the bag's contents. You can't help but feel embarrassed at your face on a clear display next to his wallet, though a binging notification catches your attention before you can pick it apart.

You click on the notification, an email. It opens, James' voice in the background talking about the new album.

It's unsurprisingly from loverboy himself.

Answer your phone!!!!! sent from my iPhone.

You email him back. I've had to turn it off.

Oh fuck. Are you okay?

You pull the email tab to the side and watch James smile and say goodbye to everyone watching.

Yeah, I'm perfect. Facetime me?

On you like a rash.

What do you use to draw?

I have a surface pro 8 at home and I use a 22in cintiq at work. Occasionally… I do personal art at work LOL. I use Photoshop CC almost exclusively except the occasional phone drawing which I’ll do on HeavyPaint or Autodesk Sketchbook (but mostly Heavypaint). What brushes do you use? For painting I use the same horrible brushes I downloaded from deviantart like 14 years ago and I cobbled them together for download here. And for lines ive been using shiyoon kim’s brushes which you can grab here.

What do you use for plein air paintings? If it’s digital, almost exclusively Heavypaint. Traditional, I use gouache. A mix of Holbein acryla and normal gouache either windsor newton or m. graham.

What kind of sketchbook do you use? I use moleskine cahier XXL sketchbooks! I’ve been using moleskine cahiers for probably over 10 yrs now? they come in packs of 3 for like 30USD (the price went up recently booo but $10 per book is still not bad) for the largest size. I think a lot of people associate moleskine with intimidatingly fancy covers & paper but the cahiers are rly lightweight and flexible. you can bend the xxl into a roll like a newspaper and the covers are a light cardboard so you can draw all over them. I always have trouble with spiral sketchbooks getting fucked up in my backpack because I really throw my stuff around a lot but the binding on the cahiers can take a beating and have never fallen apart on me.

These disturbing fliers began popping up around Los Angeles some years ago, featuring horror movie-worthy images, that advertised a rather unsavory service: The chance to “bathe” in a stone-faced, silver-haired woman’s “milk.’”

The “Bathe in My Milk” flier directed men to BatheInMyMilk.com to apply for an appointment. Those deemed worthy would be allowed to sponge themselves down in milk — “traditional, soy or almond” — while the lady looked on. (“I will watch you,” the leaflet promised.)

The setting for said baths looked equally disturbing: A filthy, dilapidated bathroom with torn wallpaper, a bathmat that looks like it hasn’t been washed since the Nixon presidency and, ominously, a rope.

The mystery of the bath only deepened when photos of the grim flier started going viral. It made the rounds on Reddit and Twitter, and sparked perplexing responses: “The men in the bath in my milk photos are no longer with us. That is a fact.”

So what the hell was it? The fliers were an elaborate prank done by artist & comedian Alan Wagner. Wagner came up with the bizarre idea when a beverage company asked him to create a meme that would make their drink go viral. He offered a version of this, but it was rejected because it was too quirky.

So he decided to do it himself. Though meant as a joke, interest in the milk baths was strong. He told inquirers that the old woman didn’t have technology, and asked them to mail her a physical letter explaining why they are a “top candidate.” The address he provided them with? An unsuspecting friend. (The USC film school grad hopes to someday support himself with his twisted art.)

New year's resolutions generated by AI

This month I'm beginning 2022 as the first Futurist in Residence at the Smithsonian Arts and Industries Building.

It's weird to think of myself as a futurist. I write a lot about the algorithms we're calling artificial intelligence (AI), but rather than deal with the humanlike science fiction version, I focus on what today's much simpler AI is capable of. Since today's AI relies on using trial and error to get better at predicting its training data, and its training data must necessarily be from the past, its job is really to predict the past. This has a big effect on what it's like to use AI to predict the future.

Since we're entering 2022, the folks at the Smithsonian thought it would be interesting if I could use AI to generate New Year's Resolutions. What does it look like if I try to use AI trained on past data to suggest positive changes for the future?

I decided to use GPT-3, which is how people tend to refer to a group of large text-generating AI models that OpenAI trained on a huge collection of internet text. News articles, food blogs, social media, spam - it's all in there somewhere. Including plenty of times people have talked about their own New Year's resolutions.

Give one of the larger GPT-3 models - for example, DaVinci, the very largest - the beginning of a list of New Year's resolutions and, since its job is to predict what text comes next, it'll generally add more resolutions to the list.

In the example below, the only text I wrote is the list title in bold. With that as a beginning, DaVinci predicted from its internet training that what would come next is this list of resolutions.

To attend all Orientation committee meetings

To become more involved in Plattsmouth Community

To go bowling with teammates

To become a good writer

To start a successful business and become a millionaire

They're plausible resolutions. Ask DaVinci for more predictions and the list will be similar. People who post their resolutions on the internet tend to pick similar sorts of things. At least, they did when DaVinci's training data was collected in October 2019 - things have probably changed a bit since then.

But I didn't want to stop here, because I didn't just want a generic list of resolutions from the average internet human of the past. I wanted something that felt personal. Something a bit weird.

For my next attempt, I started the list with example resolutions that three strangers had mentioned on Twitter in 2021. I chose resolutions that were a bit offbeat. My example resolutions are in bold, and DaVinci's additions follow verbatim.

List of New Year's Resolutions

Not to buy any clothes except underwear for a year.

Touch grass and record every time I do it.

Use more insect textures in creature design.

Draw the front cover of a writing manual.

Get the missus to go to the shops for a new hat.

Find wallpaper for the kitchen/bathroom, and then paint it.

Finish the prints for the QI drawings.

Draw more detail into the background of the QI drawings.

Leave all the Christmas trees up and then paint them, as cubist art.

Eat nothing but broccoli and paint everything broccoli related.

Grow broccoli, and paint broccoli.

Make broccoli the national currency and then paint that.

This time it's a journey. DaVinci, when faced with predicting what would come next on this list, predicted first one drawing-related resolution, and then multiple others. Soon this became not just a list of resolutions, but specifically a list of drawing-related resolutions. It generated a broccoli-and-drawing-related resolution, and then the list became a list of resolutions by a painter/broccoli fanatic.

You can see how this goes. Each of DaVinci's predictions feeds forward into the future, and can become self-reinforcing obsessions.

I found that I could shape DaVinci's list by choosing a point to cut it off, deleting the end, and then having DaVinci try to generate the list again. In that way, one resolution or two at a time, I could build up a list of resolutions that, if not exactly advisable, were at least interesting.

List of New Year's Resolutions

Not to buy any clothes except underwear for a year.

Touch grass and record every time I do it.

Use more insect textures in creature design.

Take photos of each of my toes daily.

Egg every house in the village where I was born.

Lick a branch of a tree and repeat it every day for a year.

Walk down my block backwards looking over my shoulder.

Every time I am alone in the dark I will eat an apple.

Eat my favorite book.

I quickly learned how easy it was for DaVinci to develop themes.

If it generated:

Attend the Rainforest Action Network Benefit.

Then next it might generate:

Ask a rainforest tribe what they think of eco-tourism.

Go on a tour of the Tambopata National Reserve.

Go on a tour of the Manu National Park.

Write letters to the editor about rainforest preservation.

When I let it generate a resolution to eat my favorite book, next it would suggest:

Eat a book every day

and if I didn't delete that and have it try again, soon it would be suggesting:

Eat a picture of myself everyday.

Super charge my digestive system and then, eat a picture of myself everyday.

I also learned to stay away from gloominess, or platitudes, or anything to do with fitness goals - it was too easy for DaVinci to get stuck in a rut. Anything shocking or mean-spirited also tended to poison the list. I had to delete these:

Every day I will blatantly eavesdrop.

Belch until my teeth explode.

Many were worse. DaVinci is trained on internet text, after all, and so it has a tendency to veer into racism or spam. I needed to be present at every point for careful hand-pruning.

In the end I deleted many, many more predictions than I kept - perhaps about 10 times more.

It began to feel like a metaphor for life choices. Become the kind of person who spends a year licking trees and eating apples in the dark, and who knows what you'll be doing next. Spend a year trying to belch your way into exploding teeth, and that'll have an effect on you too.

I present to you my list, my own list that emerged from each prediction that I let stand, and that was also shaped by each prediction that caused me to delete, go back, regroup, retry. These aren't all things that I would necessarily do myself (I like my sleep far too much to be going out every night at midnight to make grass pancakes), but they are all things that I thought were interesting, that I wanted to hear more about.

Record every adjective I hear on the radio.

Act like a cabbage for a month.

At 4 o'clock every day I will climb a tree.

Speak only to apples for 24 hours.

Jump in front of a moving tree.

On the day of the first snow paint a canvas red.

Dress in a way that only a ghost could love.

Make pancakes out of grass at midnight each night.

Find old man Winter, hug him and let him know everything will be ok.

Ride out of town holding a pelican.

Under every rock I come across for a month I will write "all power to the rocks".

Every day for a year, at a random time, shout "sausage".

Make a film about the last sock in the world.

Put on a red shirt and scream 'I'M NOT WEARING PANTS!' every time I leave the house.

Throw a party for insects.

Try to convince the dog next door that he is wearing a coat of moonlight.

Every time I press a button I will say 'this is my favorite'.

Search my apartment for secret doors or hidden staircases.

Wear two superman outfits at the same time.

Every time it rains I will stir my tea anti-clockwise.

Every night for a week I will wear a hat lined with lettuce.

I will begin to believe that the trees that I see everyday are my friends.

Every time a bird flies past me I will remember to breathe.

Throw a birthday party for my favorite tree.

I will from now on tell every dog I meet that I am training to be a dragon.

Every time I see a panel van pass me I will dub it a "Slice-a-Wagon."

Crawl on the ceiling like a spider for a month.

Attempt to find peace living with an army of puppets.

Wear a dinosaur costume to every public event I attend.

Go to the beach every day for a week and shout the names of colors into the ocean.

Go on a three-day backpacking trip dressed as a turnip.

Create messages that only the wind can hear by blowing on the blades of grass.

Give a piece of cloud to a complete stranger.

Make a mask out of grass and wear it while I'm sleeping.

I will now treat every worm I see as if it is an old friend.

When I hear a strange noise in an empty room I will assume someone is saying hello to me.

If you don't like the one you got, you have my permission to reload and regenerate until you find a resolution that speaks to you. Or to apples.

A MAJOR CELEBRATION - HAPPY ANNIVERSARY

I’m a bit late on this, but it’s here! This is not only my anniversary piece, but my love letter to both the game and the community as a whole. I wanted to include as many grumpuses as I could, and I got way more than I ever thought I would ever draw lol. There was a point where I just had to stop or else I would be in muppet purgatory forever, but I really tried to get as many as I could.

Bugsnax as a game was something I didn’t expect to hit me on such a personal level. It truly was a game I fell deeply in love with for being inspirational, emotional, and creative. Because of that, it kicked a nasty art burn out phase I got right after graduating college, and made me pick up my tablet again. My art drive has been so strong, I’ve made more pieces this year alone than the last 2-3 years combined, and that’s saying something. I’ve improved so much too, it’s crazy looking back at what I was making at the start of the year to now.

This game had me so invested, that the moment I finished it, I went online and found so many other people who were also super into it. I actually wanted to push my comfort zone and put myself out there. I wanted to meet people, get involved in the community, talk to the artists I ended up looking up to as I discovered them through the tags. It’s such a surreal experience, because it actually happened! So many of these people are incredibly kind and talented, I feel honored to have made friends with so many of them, and have created some amazing friendships with them too.

Because of all this, it really made me put my year into perspective. 2021 was not an easy year for me personally. There are people out there in the community who mean so much to me...it makes me really appreciate them so much, and I have nothing but gratitude. There’s plenty of personal stuff I rather not get into, but if it were not for me taking the steps to put myself out there, meet people, and have people that genuinely support me as I support them, I literally don’t know where I’d be without them. You guys made and continue to make my year a very special one. I literally can’t thank you all enough, you all have my deepest gratitude.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you guys for the incredible year; and thanks Young Horses for the amazing game that kick started this whole thing.

PHEW, WOW, THAT’S A LOT OF GUYS

Fun Facts:

- The total number of Grumpuses is 87. 73 of them being OCs and the other 14 are the main cast.

- If you noticed, I tried grouping a lot of these guys with certain themes and have it make sense for them to hang out with each other (kind of). I tried my hardest to keep it consistent, but there may be a few stray guys cause it would ruin the sort of even looking set up if I changed where they were.

-Obviously, some of the interactions and pairings are more or less little nods to other people’s connections with each other, whether it’s personal friends or people really liking their ocs together.

- I had to save out 5 different versions of this project because I had the time lapse running the whole time. The files were becoming so big, saving/opening the file became a struggle. Between the 5 files w/the time lapse recordings, the total file sizes ended up being 15.3 GB.

- The clean, final version of the project w/out the time lapse and still retains all the original layers is 172 MB.

- I started this project on November 6th, 2021 & finished it on December 2nd 2021 (That’s about 3 and half weeks, or about 26 consecutive days. No, I did not take a single day off working on this; and don’t worry, I took care of myself and had people check up on me just in case I was found lying on the floor family guy style)

The milestones dates are as followed, - Sketch from start to finish: Nov 6th - Nov 11th - Outline/Flats for initial background: Nov 11th - Nov 12th - Outline/Flats for Characters: - Nov 13th - Nov 23rd - Background Shading: Nov 24th - Nov 26th - Character Shading: Nov 26th - Dec 1st - Clean Up/Additional Background Detail: Dec 1st - Dec 2nd

- A good chunk of these guys have fully drawn out bodies just in case bits and pieces were shown or I had to move them around if the original sketch wasn’t gonna work.

- I haven’t done a large scale project like this since Dungeons and Grumpuses which was all the way back in March of 2021, so that tells ya how much I’ve grown and improved over the last couple of months.

- I have been told several times that I was crazy and was gonna die during this project, and I did several times lmao.

IT HAS BEEN AN UTTERLY WILD DAY. for those unaware today (well, yesterday now) was the first day of sakuracon, which ray chase (karamatsu's english voice actor) is a guest at!! and BOY OH BOY. well, to start with, sorry (not sorry) for kara saying my name LOL but dw!! i will definitely make a version that ALL karamatsu girls will enjoy :)

okay so you know how i said i peaked when karamatsu's official english voice actor complimented my art

WELL. I WAS GONNA GO TO THE AUTOGRAPH SESSION FOR SURE TOMORROW, BUT I ACCIDENTALLY FOUND HIS TABLE FOR AUTOGRAPHS AT THE EXHIBITOR'S HALL. and it just so happened that i ended up being second in line for when he came back again. and my god. i put the karamatsu folder i was holding down on the table for a sec cuz i had a lot in my hands and ray sees it and me and instantly says OHH I KNOW YOU!! the person who did the karamatsu art i follow on twitter- the karamatsu superfan! LIKE HE RECOGNIZED ME INSTANTLY EVEN THOUGH I WAS IN COSPLAY?? and asked what i was there for and i said ok first off i gotta get a signed print, and he starts pulling out the print and the assistant starts adding it to the bill and he stops her and says "no no this is a gift" and he signs it with a message to me. and as hes signing he says yeah your video was so good, you're such a talented artist and even an animator!! what other skills do you have? and i was like UHH UHH I DRAW AND ANIMATE AND EDIT VIDEOS AND WRITE SOMETIMES... and he was like WOW you can do everything!! yknow we're always in need of video editors, i might be in contact with you about that later! WHICH LIKE WTF LMAO MY KARA SIMPING LEADING ME TO THIS POINT WTF WTFFFF

then i show him the lines i wanted him to say as karamatsu and ask if its ok that it's 2 sentences. AND HE READS THROUGH IT OUT LOUD AND i just immediately crumple to the floor screaming and hes like oh can i come over around (the table he's sitting at) to do this, and he comes over, and i give him my phone with the lav mic and hes like DAMN you even got the proper mic and all!! asks to see the line again, i try to switch apps on my phone, he sees my home screen wallpaper of me and kara, laughs, and then after looking at the line he records the bideo and its all i can do to not just cry on the spot right there. BUT I NOTICED THAT HE FORGOT TO SAY THE I LOVE YOU PART OF THE LINE, so i had to ask him to do it again and he got it right and i was just so happy so so happy. and afterwards he was like you're amazing can i give you a hug? and OFC I SAY YES AND WE HUGGED AND i was like OH YEAH i will have more stuff for you to sign tomorrow!!! and more money HEH and he said oh yeah yeah, like that art you made with yuichi nakamura right? yeah i saw on twitter it's awesome and im just 😭😭 also as a FINAL spaghetti sperg i was like OH YEAH UMMM i know this might be weird but would it be okay if i made a compilation of all of my hornyposting tweets that you liked and printed it out for you to sign and he laughed and was like hell yeah thats hilarious LMAO

yknow making stuff to feed my milgram obsession somehow has taught me quite a bit about image editing. or at least, image editing using a program that is not quite optimized for it.

struggles with firealpaca aside, i was going through my files the other day and realized that i don't tend to share a large amount of my edits. part of that is due to the fact that many of these are parts of a larger project, so i never really considered sharing them since i want to get to the bigger thing. but another part is due to the fact that the edits are not quite up to the standard that i want them to be at, so i don't feel like they're worth sharing. but looking back at some of these, even though the edits aren't quite to par or are pretty useless, they're still alright, so here's a little showcase of some of the edits i've done thus far!

there's this pan shot in kotoko's s1 mv, and i went "oh boy! that's an easy edit!" so whipped this together in like 10-15 minutes. i think i just wanted to use this as a banner for something? but that never happened.

edits of the birthday arts from the amnibus store announcements! these were part of my bigger series of birthday wallpaper edits. these files exist because of some technical layer stuff with the wallpapers. i was more focused on recreating the patterns for that series rather than putting the art on, so these edits weren't really worth sharing.

in the milgram server i'm in, a person kinassigned the prisoners flowers, and that gave me the idea for these edits! i gave up because it was surprisingly difficult to find flower photos that i could actually use. i'm proud of how yuno's came out, though!

i needed the emblem-logo for an art i was doing, but because i'm really bad at geometric stuff, i did the only logically thing: edit it! back in season 1, the character page had a graphic with the milgram logo right behind the box where es and jackalope would be, so i took some time to edit that, then spent way too much time on the emblem. the emblem itself is a little plain, but it did well enough for the art i was making.

back in season 1 after we got some verdicts, i used the verdict arts from the judge page for this one. i can't find the files i used for this edit, but i think i used haruka's and fuuta's verdict arts for this? trying to edit out the characters to just have the sheep and goat symbols with the words around was a bit tricky, so the text ended up a bit scuffed.

the artist for the milgram light novel cover released a version without the text over it on their twitter and i really wanted to use it for my phone wallpaper! but the dimensions weren't right for it so quiet and gentle were cut off. i thus made an edit to make it fit better. i'm really bad at recreating art styles though, so when it comes to extending images like this, my solution is to make it burry so you can't see my bs. i think the thing i put the most effort into was extending the book on the floor.

this thing took so. much. time!!!! to make. this was partly because i wanted this to be as in tact and clear as possible, so blurring wasn't an option. both of the stars on the desktop and mobile files had parts cut off, so i needed to mash them together and edit out the bg on the mobile version. also as much as i love them, es's head is in the way of the bottom point in both stars, so i needed to reconstruct that bottom part and a part of kotoko that was cut off in both stars by throwing more prisoner stars at it and using kotoko's character art. also fun fact: both desktop and mobile version of the prisoner stars has their top points cut off, but the mobile version less so. but there's no way i'm going to edit out the background again if i have to, so i'm using my edit of the initial star to add the points to the transparent desktop version. and if you've seen my recent word art edits involving the stars, yes i will be doing this for all the prisoners for s2. or at least, i'm planning to. yet despite all the hours i put into it, the seams still are too obvious, so leaving the stars as is isn't really something i want to share, thus why i'm only releasing these as my word art edits for the time being. can you tell from my ranting that these stars left me v tired?

the most recent edit. i had the idea to use the max resolution thumbnails from the album trailers as my pc's wallpaper, but there was a problem with yuno's. haruka's (and now fuuta's) thumbnails were extended at the bottom so the art took up the whole 16:9 aspect ratio, but yuno's thumbnail wasn't. instead, it only has those black bars on the top and bottom. of course, i wanted the version with the extension on the bottom, so i extended it myself. trying to recreate the fog effect was tough, and where the og stops and my edit starts is obvious, but it works for my purposes!
